Speaker A

Here's today's reading from Hebrews 10:32 39 reading from the Message Remember those early days after you first saw the light?

Speaker A

Those were hard times, kicked around in public, targets of every kind of abuse.

Speaker A

Some days it was you, some other days it was your friends.

Speaker A

If some friends went to prison, you stuck with them.

Speaker A

If some enemies broke in and seized your goods, you let them go with a smile, knowing they couldn't touch your real treasure.

Speaker A

Nothing they did bothered you, nothing set you back.

Speaker A

So don't throw it all away now.

Speaker A

You were sure of yourselves then.

Speaker A

It's still a sure thing.

Speaker A

But you need to stick it out, staying with God's plan so you'll be there for the promised completion.

Speaker A

It won't be long now.

Speaker A

He's on the way.

Speaker A

He'll show up most any minute.

Speaker A

But anyone who is right with me thrives on loyal trust.

Speaker A

If he cuts and runs, it won't be I won't be very happy.

Speaker A

But we're not quitters who lose out.

Speaker A

Oh no, we'll stay with it and survive, trusting all the way.

Speaker A

Well my friends, in today's reflection we're exploring this really powerful text about community resilience and a sustained commitment to justice, even in the face of opposition.

Speaker A

Here's our points to ponder.

Speaker A

The first is about collective resistance.

Speaker A

Notice how this passage emphasizes the shared struggle.

Speaker A

Some days it was you, other days your friends.

Speaker A

Early Christians understood that liberation work requires community support.

Speaker A

When some went to prison, others stuck by them.

Speaker A

This speaks directly to modern movements for social justice where mutual aid and collective care sustain long term resistance.

Speaker A

A second point is about revolutionary detachment.

Speaker A

The text describes people letting go of possessions with a smile, knowing they couldn't touch your real treasure.

Speaker A

This isn't about devaluing material needs, but about understanding that true wealth lies in community, justice and liberation.

Speaker A

It's a radical critique of capitalism's emphasis on individual accumulation.

Speaker A

Another point is about sustainable activism.

Speaker A

The Call to Stick it out acknowledges that justice work is a marathon, not a sprint.

Speaker A

The author here understands that maintaining hope while working for systematic change requires both persistence and patience.

Speaker A

This speaks to contemporary activists facing burnout and compassion fatigue.

Speaker A

Here's your action step.

Speaker A

Practice sustainable solidarity.

Speaker A

That is Identify one justice movement you care about and commit to regular, manageable support.

Speaker A

So instead of burning out with intense short term involvement, create some sort of a sustainable rhythm of engagement.

Speaker A

This might mean setting up monthly donations or scheduling some regular volunteer hours, or joining some sort of a mutual aid network and focus on consistency over intensity.

Speaker A

We'll come back and have your closing prayer here in just a minute.

Speaker A

I want to share with you that we have a resource for you.

Speaker A

Speaker A

When justice work feels endless, when progress seems slow, when opposition feels overwhelming, remind us that we're part of a long legacy of of communities who persisted.

Speaker A

Help us find that balance between urgency and patience, between passion and sustainability.

Speaker A

Ground us in community care.

Speaker A

Sustain us with collective hope.

Speaker A

Guide us in this sacred marathon of love.

Speaker A

In determination and trust we pray.

Speaker A

Amen.
