David:

Prayer has the capacity to reshape and resculpt reality. But most people have never been taught how to pray properly. People have spontaneous healings. Jesus prayed to God and turned a loaf of bread into enough food to feed 5,000 people. Scripture after scripture shows us that prayer can heal the sick, reshape the physical world, even move mountains. And this is not a small claim. This is the idea that every single human being has access to a technology so powerful it can literally bend reality. And yet, people pray for money and they stay broke. People pray for healing and they stay sick. People pray every single day of their lives and nothing changes. So in this episode, I'm going to show you why most prayer actually keeps you stuck. What proper prayer looks like, according to the Bible, the Quran, and the great metaphysical teachings, and the exact practice I use every single morning that transformed my relationship with God and my reality. Because when you learn how to actually pray, not wish and not beg, but pray properly, reality has no choice but to respond. So let's get into it.

You're in the right place. Welcome to a Changed mind. All right, guys, here's what nobody tells you about prayer. It's actually the way that most people pray that prevents their prayers from being answered. I'm going to say that one more time. The way that most people pray is the thing that prevents their prayers from being answered. Now, most people pray like this. And of course, most of my life, I did the same thing. There is some super being somewhere way out there in the cosmos. And if I just plead and ask and beg loud enough, literally shout my prayers out into the universe over and over, maybe the super being will hear me. Please, God, give me money. Please, God, heal my body. Please, universe, send me someone. And here's the tricky thing. In a lot of ways, it actually feels right. Like, take a look at it. It feels spiritual. It feels like some form of devotion. But here's the paradox. Every time you ask for something, you're broadcasting the absence of it. I want you to think about this for a moment. When you ask, it implies that you don't have. You're telling the field, hey, I don't have this thing that I want. Bring it to me. And the universe, which is vibrational in nature, mirrors that signal back. Reality is a mirror. It doesn't respond to your words. It responds to the signal that you're broadcasting through your habit of thought and through your habit of emotion. And the signal of desperate prayer is a signal of lack. It is a signal of need and ultimately a signal of fear. I don't have this, and I'm afraid I won't get it unless some supernatural being can intervene. So I'll turn to God and I'll ask loudly and repeatedly from a place of desperation. So the irony here is the harder you beg, the greater the signal, the further away the thing that you want actually gets. Not because God isn't listening, but because your signal is keeping it at bay. And again, this is the great irony of improper prayer. The more desperately you ask, the more you reinforce the very condition you're trying to get away from. You're literally praying yourself deeper and deeper into the very whole you're trying to climb out of. And this is why so many people end up losing faith. They go, hey, I don't understand. Like, I prayed for years and nothing changed. So therefore God must not exist, or God doesn't care, or the universe doesn't function this way. But the problem was never God or the universe to begin with. The problem was the act of prayer. One of the great metaphysical teachers whose book the Game of Life and how to Play it, who I absolutely love, Florence Scovel Shin. She was around in the early 1900s, and one of the things she warned against was what she called adverse prayer, which she described as praying from fear or worry or desperation. She calls this actually self cursing because you broadcast the very condition that you're wanting to escape in the Bible, in James 4, James tells us that you ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly. So this is very important observations. The question is, if desperate prayer, the way that we've been doing prayer our whole lives, doesn't work, then what actually does? And the answer has been hiding in plain sight for thousands of years. The Bible tells us, the Quran tells us, the great metaphysical teachings tell us. Every tradition points to the same framework of proper prayer. And they say that proper Prayer is thanksgiving. Proper prayer is a giving of thanks. Not thanking God after you receive, but thanking God before you receive, as if what you want is already done. So let me explain why this works, because there are two explanations at least, and they're both really important. So the first explanation is a psychological explanation. It's a psychological perspective. When you give thanks for the thing that you want before you actually seem to have it, you close the gap between the wanting and the having. So if you can actually convince yourself that what you want already exists or is already on the way, you stop paying attention to the absence of it and you start looking for or anticipating the having of it. So this is a psychological recalibration. This is a recalibration of your thoughts. It is a reorientation of your attention. You start having in acknowledging that you already have something, different ideas, you literally start to perceive reality differently. And that psychological calibration aligns you with the creation of the thing that you want. A simple example would be if you assume you already have the wealth that you want, then you start having wealthy or wealth oriented thoughts, you start thinking like a wealthy person, you start noticing wealth, creating opportunities. And given a short period of time, wealth becomes the byproduct of that shift, right? So that's how you create wealth, through the assumption of having wealth already. That's a psychological proof. This is not some sort of new age concept. This is how your mind actually works. Now from, let's say a new age or metaphysical perspective or a vibrational perspective. When you pray in Thanksgiving, assuming what you want already exists or is on the way, you're putting off a frequency of already having the thing desired. And so the thing desired must reflect itself into your reality. Another way of just describing this is if, let's say you are now in vibrational coherence with attracting or manifesting the thing that you want. This is the fundamental idea of Law of attraction. So you're attracting what you want by assuming you already have it, not by wanting it, by assuming that it already exists and giving thanks for it. And this is what the great mystic Neville Goddard meant when he talked about living as if the wish were fulfilled. And again, the Bible gives us direct instructions in Philippians. Do not be anxious about anything, but in by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God. Notice this word Thanksgiving. Not wanting, not operating from desperation, but in giving thanks for what you know is already on the way. The Quran talks about the concept of what's called tawa kel or Complete trust in God's plan after you've made your request. So you make your request and you have complete trust. You ask and you must receive. And what most people don't understand is that prayer and manifestation are really not two different things. They're the same technology through different languages. What is manifestation? It's living in the reality of your wish fulfilled. What is proper prayer? It's giving thanks for what you desire, knowing that if you've asked, you will receive. So I want to share with you a practice that I use to get into the state of proper prayer or thanksgiving, to get into the frequency of already having what I want. And this practice actually came out of a desire I had not that long ago to have a more personal relationship with God. So I was really inspired by the relationship that the biblical David has with God. And you know, years ago, when I got into working a 12 step program, I felt like I had found or I had established a relationship with a higher power. But God for me wasn't personal. It wasn't like I was having a regular conversation with my higher power. It was more like, I guess I'd describe it as having a relationship with the universe. The universe, though, is a what? The universe is a thing. It is not a who. And I really wanted to feel a personal relationship with my higher power, like this idea of a divine father, a father who takes care of me. So about a year ago, I decided I wanted a personal relationship with God. A few months later, I was inspired into this journaling practice that I want to share with you. And it has really helped me to build a more personal relationship with my higher power. So that practice is this. I sit down actually in this room where I broadcast my podcast and I take out my journal and I write and I start out every single entry with the same words. I start it with four. Dear Father, thank you. Okay, And I start giving thanks. I start giving thanks for the things that have already materialized in my life. I start giving thanks for the things that I want that have not yet materialized in my life because I realize they're one and the same thing. I realize that all things that I ask my higher power for my God for. Because my God is by my own definition, loving, giving, omniscient, omnipotent, all powerful, all resourceful. Whether I already have the thing or whether I desire the thing, I give thanks for it because I know that my God will give those things to me. So that's step one. I see. Dear Father, thank you for my family. Thank you for the Home we live in. Thank you for my incredible wife. Thank you for my son. Thank you for my health and for my body. Now, are my health and my body exactly where I want them to be? No. But I know that I've already asked for certain things. Better sleep, more vibrancy, more energy, less brain fog. And I know who I'm asking. I'm asking the Almighty. I'm asking the creator of the universe. And so I don't really feel that I necessarily need to ask for the things that I don't have. I just give thanks for those things, knowing that I actually already have them. They're on the way. Then ask. Like I imagine my son asks for things from his father and almost a demanding way, right? I'm like, dear God, give me more influence in the world. You know, Dear God, you know, allow my book to be read by millions of people. Dear God, allow this podcast to be heard by hundreds of millions. Dear God, bring the right people into my organization so that we can continue to grow and scale our impact. You know, Dear God, bring me the solutions that I need in order to sleep more effectively, because I've had challenges with sleep over the years, which, by the way, have gotten much, much better. Thank you, God. Dear God, you know, allow me more time with my wife and more support and help for our family so that we can not just be working on our mission, but be continuing to grow as a family. So there's sort of this fuzzy area where I give thanks for the things that I already have. I give thanks for the things that I want as if I have them. And I have no problem asking God for more, like a spoiled child of the divine, knowing that God loves me and for all of those things that are in his will, those things shall be given to me. And so that's my first step, give thanks for the things that I have. Second step is I start asking for things like a spoiled child of God. Dear God, bring me more financial resource. Dear God, bring me more influence. Dear God, bring this work to more people in the world. Dear God, guide my investments. Dear God, allow me to launch new businesses so it's not just spiritual things. I'm asking for material things, you know, Dear God, let's get this private jet going, like, in lockstep now, soon. I'm grateful for the fact that I fly first class. Thank you. And I'm grateful for the even more enhanced travel and ease that you're bringing me and my family as we go out into the world. Delivering this work on your behalf. And in order to enrich our own lives and our own selves. So step one, I give thanks for what I already have. Step two, I ask for more of what I want. Step three is I ask for others. And what's interesting is as I journal, I'm getting into this frequency of knowing this, knowing that what I ask I will receive. And knowing that when I ask for others, meaning I pray for others, what I'm asking for is already done for them. I ask for their health, I ask for their wellness. I ask for their overcoming of addiction. I ask for guidance for them in their business and their worthy mission in the world. I ask for harmony in their lives. So as I experience the people that I care about, who some I know well, some I don't know that well, I can ask for people who I see suffering in the world. I can ask for the ending of refugee crisis. I can ask for the ending of armed conflict, not for myself, but for. But I know who I'm asking. I'm asking the God of my understanding. An almighty God, an all knowing God, an all powerful God. A God who is able to part the red seas. A God who is able to feed 5,000 from a loaf of bread and a couple of fish. A God who is able to, through his power, through us, resurrect the dead, heal the lepers. That's who I ask for a miracle performing God who performs miracles in and of himself and who performs miracles through the power that he has infused inside of us our soul and our spirit. And so that's my process. It takes me, you know, could be three parts thanksgiving, bold asking for myself and bold asking for others. And every single time I have to tell you, I finish this process, I leave this room in an incredibly high vibrational state. I literally feel like I just had a meeting with God, because I did. I spent 10, 15, 20 minutes in the frequency of thanksgiving and the vibration of asking and knowing that I will receive it, in the vibration of compassion and caring for others. Others seeing their future outcomes as positive and beneficial and already done. In fact, you could say through this practice, I elevated myself into the God frequency, into a personal relationship with my higher power. Because God is the frequency of gratitude, God is the frequency of receiving. God is the frequency of compassion and asking for others. So this is a process, a journaling process of proper prayer. And I promise you, if you do this every morning for the next 30 days, you will not recognize your life and as the same. And you will realize that in fact all the things that you've been asking for. You already have. So I hope this episode has been as powerful for you as it is sharing it with you, because it reminds me of what's true for me that I often forget too.
