Hey everybody. Welcome back to Tuesday's edition of the Daily Bible Podcast. Hello. And by the way, if you're wondering, where is Pastor Mark? Remember Pastor Mark is, why is he not here? He's joining us Tuesdays and Thursdays for recording as he's in office with us. But then Saturdays, which is when we do these three episodes he is not in on Saturday with us, so he may occasionally jump in with us. But if you're going, where's Pastor Mark? He'll be back. Don't worry. We've heard the masses, we've heard. Uproarious ERVs Applause that people love Pastor Mark. Yeah, I heard good things. I recently, I was talking to some people and they're like, I like Pastor Mark. He's a great addition. Yeah. And my wife said, he's got insights that you and Pastor PJ never talk about. He's so much smarter than you. And I like him way better. And I'm just kidding. But she did compliment him quite a bit, saying he has insightful things to say and I thought, yeah I like him too. I just find him, he's a lot more fun. A third party. Sure. When it's two against one even better. Yeah. That's when I love that we get to do fun things together. We get to laugh. It's enjoyable. Well, pastor Mark wanted to do Saturday with us. We're not gonna say no, no, we're gonna say bring it, but if he doesn't and he wants to be with his family, then okay, fine. Yeah. Draw the lines where you will, buddy. Yeah. My mom listens to our podcast. She likes his contributions, so. Oh yeah. Yeah. He's fun. I like him too. Anyways, we're gonna keep 'em around. We are gonna keep 'em around. Hey, don't forget, we've got extravaganza coming up. That's part of our Easter outreach. So if you've got candy that you can bring to the church or even swing by the church offices, I know it would be appreciated. We're going for 9,000 eggs this year. Wow. That's a lot of eggs. That's a ton of eggs. Well, we want eggs and candy. In the eggs? Yes. If I'm not mistaken. Yes. And by the way, chocolate's the way to go. Lemme just tell you it's gonna melt easier. Yes. So hopefully it's not a really hot day, but chocolate is so much better, by the way, I didn't tell you this. Okay. All right. I'm telling you something for the first time, breaking news. Well, we Okay. On a whim? Yes. We're watching this random YouTube video, okay. About this company that makes Turkish delights in Turkey. It's Istanbul. Okay. Do you know this company? No, I guess they're very famous. Okay. They're very popular. They have a location in London, Istanbul and Frisco. Maybe, hold on. I don't think it's in the States yet. There's another location that's a big location anyway the, it's called Hafi. Mustafa. Okay. And they make these circus delights and Christian and the kids got some from some local shop because of Edmond from the line Yeah. Chronicles the morning, right? He sold his brothers and sisters in, or his sister and brothers. Sisters. Sisters and brother. Yes. Anyway, he sold his siblings in for some Turkish delights, so I thought, how fun. I bet these are tasty. So I ordered them from Istanbul. That's intense man. They came from Istanbul, so I ordered some. They came within three days, which I was shocked. You order something from Istanbul, Turkey and it came within three days. Days. I could not believe it. I could not believe it. Anyway, we got this box of Turkish delights and I must say I'm a fan. What flavor? There's some, I'm looking Variety. Variety pack. Okay. Because I don't know what to get. Like, I dunno what they taste like. I had no idea. I don't even know what they're made of. There's rose flavored Turkish to delight. I think I tried it. I'm not sure. Ah, I did not know. I just got it. I thought, this will be fun. It'll be fun for the kids. And it's from Turkey, which I told the kids, which makes sense. Bible Land. This is where people, this is where some of the first churches were planted. Yeah. In Turkey. Yeah. Macedonia. So I thought it was really, it would be really cool regardless, even if I didn't like them. But I, it turns out I really enjoy them. Hafi, Mustafa, Turkish Delights. I recommend you try them. I'm on Grand Turkish bazaar right now, so, I don't really know anything about that, but it makes sense that they're made in Turkey. 'cause otherwise it's false advertising. These say traditionally handmade in instant Bowl Turkey. Yeah, absolutely. Best delight. You can try. I mean, I took them at their work again. I watched a YouTube video Yeah. Of their whole production process and their expansion, and I was like, you know what? I'm gonna do this. So I liked it. This says the order will be sent as vacuumed, which, you know, it's a good site because there are words that are capitalized in the text here that shouldn't be capitalized, but they are. I see. I would I ordered directly from ha's Mustafa. Okay, well this guy, I don't know anything about it. I'm gonna send, wait. No, I see. It says, ha's Mustafa on here? Brand. Brand. That's brand. One of the brands that you can brand. Brand from the Grand Turkish bazaar. You should go Huff's. Mustafa. At least there's for the fun of it. Okay. You guys could read Lion Witch in the wardrobe, order some of these Turkish delights and try them and see if you're, if they're worth you trading your family in for. So it, they weren't Turkish delights, but back when we were in California, I used to go do a men's Bible study with a group of Armenian. Guys that were there. Oh, and they did street tacos, I'm guessing. And you loved them? No, because I know you love street tacos. No, but one of the guys, his wife would cook and she would make the best food. It was amazing. Mm-hmm. And so I know we have some Armenian people in our church. Mm. I'm just saying if you've got some grandmas want to street tacos and make dinner, I would gladly accept the invitation. Yeah. Okay. So I'm feeling a bit weird now because you're super amenable to Armenian food, but when Mexicans make you food, you're like, that's all right. Not Armenian food. Didn't, we're not talking free will food, Armenian food. We're talking to people. Not the theology was soft. It was, well, who knows? Are they Armenians who are making Armenians, making Armenian food? Have you asked them? We don't know if they were, it would be because of God's sovereignly allowing them to make their food. Well, I'm gonna pray that God would sovereignly make you enjoy street tacos. Okay, well, let's get into our Daily Bible podcast, but Hafi, Mustafa, Mustafa. Which means lion in Turkish, I believe. I think that's Musa. Mufasa is that Lion King? That's what it is. Mufasa. And that's not, I saw an X. There were these guys who were singing like, ah, yeah, the guy that translated it. Yeah. He said, look, it is a lion. Yes, I saw that too. That's all this whole time. For years I've been singing that and I had no idea. Yeah. And with the translation is actually worse 'cause I'm taking out the OMG part. Yeah. That they say, look, it's a lion. Yes. Yeah. Sorry. Crazy if you know what we're talking about. That's the translation of the Lion King at the beginning opening scene where that person is singing in the background. But that's crazy that Mufasa makes Turkish delight too. So, yeah, and James Earl Jones, I don't know if he gets a kickback from this, but his family would appreciate if you buy them. Didn't he die recently? I don't think it's recent. I think in the last 10 years. Okay. Well, but he's no longer with us. He is no longer with us. That's correct. Yeah. Alright, well, hey, Deuteronomy, chapter 11 through 13, Deuteronomy 11 gets into talking about the land that the Lord your God is giving you. The land is the repeated focus here of Moses' words in this chapter, and there are reminders about the blessings which are gonna come from obedience and the curses which flow from rebellion. We're gonna get into a lot of that in Deuteronomy 28. But we see some of it here and what I've started to do this time running through is circling when I see an if. Then formula in the law, because there's a lot of those where God's gonna say, if you obey, if you're careful, then I'm gonna do this to bless you. But if you disobey, then you need to know this. And so as we read Deuteronomy, one of the things that we should understand is when Israel. Is going to rebel against God. They cannot plead ignorance. They cannot say, wait a minute. We didn't know that it was going to involve this. We didn't know that we were gonna have to suffer this much. And I think there's a correlation there for us in the New Testament as well. I don't think anybody who's exposed to the truth of God's word. Can say at the end of the day, wait a minute, we didn't know that there wasn't gonna be a second chance for us after we died. And that's one of the reasons why Jesus even says to the one that's given much, much is gonna be required. And those that have been exposed to the word of God have already been given so much. When we think of the wisdom, the truth, the knowledge that we have here, and we need to pay attention when it says if this, then this. Right? And part of that is if you love the Lord, then you will do what he says. 11 one says, you shall therefore love the Lord your God. And keep his charge, his statutes, his rules, and his commandments always. We've seen this now several times over, and he's not done saying this, but it's important that you see Moses repeating this these, I don't know, four or five sermons that we read about in Deuteronomy, is Moses trying to marshal everything he can to influence the people of Israel to give their full and their all to the Lord, to the point where you're saying, look, if you guys do good. Good things happen. Yeah. This is how life works. And if you rebel, then bad things are gonna happen. And so he says verse eight, you shall therefore keep the whole commandments everything that God says. Now, don't go to the left. Don't go to the right. Stay faithful and focus on what God says, and you can't go wrong. Now that requires him to work at it and that, that's why he says here. You shall lay up these words of mind in verse 18. You shall you'll put them in your heart and you shall bind them. He is doing everything you can possible to make sure that you are tethered to the word of God all day and all night. And in no generation is it easier and harder to do that than today. Easier because you have so many options. Harder because you're so bombarded by so many different, fun, exciting, dopamine inducing distractions. In fact verses what is that? 18 down through 18 through 21. It's essentially the Shama repeated again here from chapter six. Right. Alright, dear Army 12, then this this chapter is gonna lay out the plans for a centralized place of worship. So when they get into the promised Land, it's not just gonna be, Hey everyone, worship wherever you want, but God is gonna say, I'm gonna put my name in a specific place and that's gonna change eventually. Obviously we know today that that is Jerusalem. It's going to move there eventually, but it's going to be in a couple of different places before it gets there, and that's where the tabernacle would be. But no longer are sacrificing the offerings gonna be permitted just anywhere that the Israelites saw fit. But instead, they were gonna have to bring their offerings to the Lord out a place that he was gonna designate for these things to take place. He was gonna say, this is where you shall bring your offerings, and yet he's gonna be. He's going to conceive to some and say if you can't make it, if it's too far, it's okay. Here's what you should do instead in those situations. Yeah. Such an interesting, complex combination of God's firmness and saying this is the way it is, and also his condescension to say. But also if this were to happen, here's another way to do these things. Okay. Let me go back. We talked yesterday. Was it yesterday, about the destruction of the people? Yes. Okay. One of the things that God is particularly concerned about is that they not be influenced to worship God the wrong way. Which is why he says you can't tolerate living with people like this. And so he says in verse four, you shall not worship the Lord your God in that way, but you shall seek the right place. And that's why in verse three, he says, you shall tear down their altars and dash in peace their pillars, and burn their asim with fire. He doesn't want them diluting or compromising the pure unadulterated worship of Yahweh. Now, if I could just draw a quick parallel, if you'll allow this. We need to be as ruthless with our little sins in the camp that they were with sinners in their camp. They were told it's dangerous for you to let them live near you. You can't have them close by unless they entice you with their sin. And the same thing is true with our sin today. It's not a person usually it's just a practice. There's And in your phone, I know, I heard some people to, to your sermon. They deleted their Instagram. Yeah. And I think, man I hope, yeah, that's a great thing. I hope we can take that same mentality and apply that everywhere. 'cause it's more than Instagram, although it's not a small player in the game. There's so many areas where we allow little sins to dwell with us. Yeah. And we tolerate them. And I think the same mentality of vigorous, even violent. Work against our idols would do us a great deal of service so that we might worship the Lord in purity and unadulterated love and affection, which goes back to what we've been talking about in one Peter, is our identity as exiles. That sounds exhausting and if it sounds exhausting to you, I think you get it. And I often think of the older saints that I've seen towards the end of their lives who can't wait to be done, who can't wait to go to heaven. They're not. Excited to leave their family, their loved ones behind, but they don't fear death. And part of the reason is because they can't wait to be free from the battle that it is here in our flesh, to continually have to root sin out in all of its influences everywhere we find it in our lives. And so I think when you see a seasoned believer, an older saint who's nearing the end of their life, that's one of the reasons why they're so ready. It's not just because they're physically tired, they're also spiritually tired of having to live here as exiles and continually battle the temptations that pull us towards the sinful things all over the place here. Chapter 13. The word devotion is probably a word that could sum up this chapter and it's devotion in a couple senses. Devotion to the Lord, but also devotion of anything to your point that is a threat to the purity of the Lord. Devotion of those things to destruction. And he talks about false prophets here. He talks about testing them and what to do with them and to give them no quarter, but to put them to death. This was not anything that was to be entertained softly here. And we still see. False prophets today. It's, we're not stoning anybody, but maybe there, there should be more done than is and there's a lot, I think we talked about Mike Winger recently, but Mike Winger has been doing a lot about some of the Bethel Church movement as well as IHOP and KC and some other people where if you have a background in that or you have family members that have gotten wrapped up in that, I would encourage you to check out winger's videos. He's doing some pretty thorough expose work on just the. The insidious nature of the false prophecy that's taking place today, even in those churches and in those places. Do you think it's possible that God can still be doing good work in a ministry like that even when the main leader himself is compromised, that maybe the founding person of a b, C ministry, can God still be using those things or should, or would you recommend that someone just altogether distance themselves from it, assuming that the Theo I, I know the theology were different. Yeah, yeah. Assuming those things, all things being equal. All things being equal. I think. Especially because those movements some of them are so large, it's like what we're talking about with some of these cities devoted to destruction, right? It could there be genuine believers in the midst of some of these churches that are truly saved, that are truly growing, even though this guy behind the pulpit is a wolf in sheep's clothing. I'd say probably the exception to the rule. Can I say assuredly that no, there's not any good being done in their midst. No, I don't think I could argue that either. I think there probably is some genuine good being done there, some genuine believers in those places because of our theological differences. I, if I had an opportunity, I would say, Hey, I would love for you to. Reconsider your positions on some of these issues. I think there's better places for you to be. But I can't say throw the baby out with the bath water completely either, right? And so it's important that you do your due diligence that you, as Moses says here, take care. Take care. Be careful that you're paying attention to what's being taught and that you're listening to the words that are. That are being sent out from the leadership, especially when it comes to the teaching of the word. Speaking of, let me just jump back then to verses 12 through the end of the chapter here in chapter 13. I think this is important. This is another difficult passage, but it's one that I think you should see we talked about yesterday, where God sends them to destroy these peoples. And here's what he says in chapter. 13 verses 12 through 14 18. I'm gonna just summarize for you. He says, basically, if there's a city in your towns, in Israel where they're following a false God, you are to go make a diligent search. You'll make a search and ask diligently. And if it's true that that's happening, you devote that town to destruction. It doesn't make you feel better in some sense, right? But it should make you feel better. That God is just, yeah, he's fair in the way that, well, he's just he executes justice consistently and in his way and in his time. Now, one thing I think we could say here is that God operates with people. In a gracious and compassionate way, and I would trust that, that's not gonna be untrue here. I think he's gonna call, they're gonna call them a repentance and say, here guys, here's your shot. Don't do this right? Let us plead with you. Turn the other way. Turn to the living God and be healed. I just, 'cause it doesn't say that I can't say that. I don't know that happened. I think God would have given them a chance if there was an opportunity for repentance. Yeah, I think so too. And we see that we were talking offline before this with Rahab, God gave, there was at least an enough knowledge that existed in Jericho, right. Of who God is in the power. That it got Torah rehab and Rahab was like, Hey, wait a second, I wanna fear the Lord. What does this look like for me to get out of this place? And God honored that with her. Right now. We got Ruth the Moabite, right? Who, whose mom was not the best evangelist, but still God used her and yeah. And scripture says that the Moabites were not allowed into the assembly of the Lord up into the, I think you said the 14 generation. Yeah. So clearly we have to put pieces together. And make sense of texts that it seems like, oh man, that's a clear statement of scripture. Don't, no Moabites allowed in the congregation? Well, clearly there was a carve out for those who repented and turned from their sins. Yeah. Allah, Ruth. Yeah. Let's go to March chapter 13. March, chapter 13 is our New Testament reading verses one through 13. And so it starts with Jesus, with his disciples. It comes out of the temple. And so again, during this passion week, he's leaving the temple, going into the temple, coming outta the temple. And as they leave, one of the disciples points out how beautiful the temple is to Jesus. And Jesus makes a statement. He says, do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here, one stone upon another that will not be thrown down. Now that is, I believe, a reference to the destruction of the temple that's gonna take place under Titus. Vespasian and the Romans in 70 ad this is also in the shadow though of Jesus, the true temple being marching towards the cross. And so the destruction of the earthly temple, there's gonna be destruction of the temple of Christ, and he's gonna rebuild it in three days. Well, we see that elsewhere in the gospels, and he's referring to his body here, but I think this is, he's looking at the temple saying, don't be so impressed with these things. These things are gonna fall. There's something else that you need to be impressed with instead. And it's almost as. His interaction with the woman at the well in, in Samaria when she says, which mountain's the right mountain? And Jesus says, I tell you the truth, it's not this mountain or that mountain, but God desires those to worship him, to worship him in spirit and truth. So I think that's what's going on here in, in chapter 13 a little bit. Right. And I would also add too, one of the things that you might see here, he says in verse 10, the gospel must first be proclaimed to all the nations before the end comes. Essentially, I'm gonna synthesize that now we're dispensationalist and we also believe that God is able to come even now. That there's he's not waiting on something like this to say, well, I'm not coming yet until this happens. We believe that this is connected to the larger eschatological picture where God is saying this, the ultimate end is going to come and these are some of the attending events. But we also believe that prior to this, Jesus can say, look, it's time. I'm gonna rapture up my people and begin the final countdown as it were into the. Ultimate end of days. So I, I wanna read this carefully and say, okay, what is it telling me? How does it want me to be prepared? But I don't want you putting your hope in. Well, great. The gospel hasn't gone to all four corners of the world yet. I'm safe at least for a little while longer. Right? Maybe not. Don't assume and don't presume upon the Lord. Right. Yeah. And that's so much of this is talking about those end times. There will be, you will hear rumors of wars. Wars will be present. Do not be alarmed. This must take place, but the end is not yet. Our sending pastor does a, a q and A on. You can find his podcast on Spotify. Asked Pastor Mike on Spotify. There, I was listening to it this week. Somebody called in and said, Hey, pastor Mike, can you address the war in Iran and how it relates to the end times. The wars and the rumors of wars and things like that. And basically he said, look, I can't be too specific with you. I'm not gonna sit here and tell you it's unrelated, but I can't sit here and tell you that it's specifically the fulfillment of this part of it. Because all he says here is you're gonna hear about wars and you're gonna hear about rumors. And the reality is these are the beginnings of the end. This is the birth pain. So you need to be ready. And that's kind the point that he was making as well in that. Yeah. That Pastor Mike's a good teacher. He is. He should do a church. He should, he should, might be good. I think it'd be okay. Yeah. All right, let's pray and they'll be done with this episode. Lord, help us to live ready for your return at any point, and we wanna be faithful to that. This ties back into what we were talking about not tolerating sin in the camp. As believers, we don't want to be found unready, unprepared. We don't wanna be found entertaining sin in our lives when you return. And so help us to be zealous for godliness and for holiness, Lord, so that we are ready when you bring us into the reality of our future with you, which is gonna be so sweet. Where we don't have to worry about or fight sin anymore because it will be gone vanquished finally, once and for all. We can't wait for that day, and that causes us to say, come quickly, Lord Jesus. But until you do, may we be found faithful in Jesus' name. Amen. And we'll keep reading those bibles y'all, pastor Mark will be back with us tomorrow and tune in for another episode of the day, we Bible Podcast. See you. Bye.
