This is Mr. Funky Teacher with BeAFunkyTeacher.com. I’m coming to you with another Be a Funky Teacher podcast. Welcome back, everyone. Today’s episode is Quiet Moments Matter: Finding Peace in the Noise of Teaching and Life. That’s what we’re going to be talking about. But before we get into it, let’s talk about three things that I’m thankful for. The first thing I’m thankful for is my wife getting to spend time with her sister. She’s on a little getaway right now, and I’m grateful she has the chance to step away and reconnect. Supporting the people we love when they take time for themselves is part of living with gratitude. The second thing I’m thankful for is calm, peaceful mornings. Those quiet moments before the rush of the day can be powerful. Sitting in stillness, praying, reflecting, or simply being calm often sets the tone for the entire day. The third thing I’m thankful for is a few minutes to watch television once in a while. After everyone was asleep, I took a little time to unwind. Teaching keeps us constantly “on,” and it’s okay to disconnect and enjoy something light without feeling guilty. Teaching is a nonstop profession. There are bells, conversations, expectations, students, parents, and community members constantly coming at us. Quiet moments help restore energy and balance to our nervous systems and allow us to respond instead of react. Presence is not productivity. Stillness, time with family, or even simple entertainment gives our minds breathing room. These pauses refill the emotional tank that teaching can drain. The calm we cultivate personally spills into our classrooms. Students feel it, mirror it, and internalize it. Calm energy helps students learn better, even in high-energy classrooms. Protecting quiet moments helps protect our purpose as educators. If you found this episode helpful, head over to Apple Podcasts and leave a review.
