Hey everybody. Welcome back to another edition of the Daily Bible Podcast. Hey, I'm Pastor Rod, but who are you? I'm Pastor pj. I don't know. You look like a stranger to me. I can't. Do you have id? I see what you're doing on this one. Can I be sure that you really are who you say you are? See, I wasn't in town this weekend, so nobody knows what you're referring to. Nobody knows. But they're gonna find out soon enough when you show up and they're gonna say, who's that guy? Yeah, I think. I think everyone deserves to know that you're wearing a different piece of facial jewelry. I got new glasses. Yeah, I did. I'm not comfortable with them yet. I think you oughta have the others just in case people wonder who you are. You could switch glasses real quick. Yeah. And say, oh, it's me. It's just me. It's just me. I say, oh, okay. I see. No, I got new glasses. I, so I had glasses that I got like back pre COVID and they used to be black. And so the silver ones that I've been wearing, those, they weren't supposed to be silver. Wow. They were black. The paint started. Chipping off them. So I just scraped all the paint off. You buffed them? Yeah. And then I was wearing those. And I was wearing 'em for a long time. And then the pieces, whatever these ear pieces are in the very back. Yeah, those started to crumble. You can buy new ones. One of them was still holding on, but the other one had turned into this sharp dagger that was like slicing my ear every time I put it on. Yeah, that's a bummer. And it had been like five years since I had got my eyes checked, so I went and got my eyes checked and got a new pair of glasses. That's great. I love hot pink on you. It does compliment your complexion. I think it's going to be startling for a few people, probably for a few weeks at least. Probably the poodles on the sides team. The poodles. Yeah. That just made 'em even better. Yeah. Yeah, I, it went for a change, but I don't think it's a dramatic change. I don't think dramatic. It's dramatic to me. Yeah. Fair. It's new, but it's not like I didn't go contacts that would've been different. Yes, that's true. So I still, for both glasses, people, glasses are. Usually a positive accessory. Yeah. It's the one thing that you can add that feels like it actually does really help with the overall aesthetic. I agree. Yep. Because when I take them off and it's like when you only know somebody with glasses on, then you see 'em with them off. Yeah. It's whoa. Talk about startling something happened. Yeah. I just saw a slack message come through that said, should I bring my dolly? We're talking about a move that's taken place this weekend, but. Out of context that was sent to our men's compass, men's slack. Oh, should I bring my dolly? Was it the Manliest man too? That'd be funny. Anyways, no dolls needed boys. Yeah. Keep your dolls at home. Yeah. Hopefully I'm back in town and everything went okay with the flights. Hopefully that would be a good thing. What are you trying to do? I'm just saying this past, you don't say things like that. Okay. Listen. God's in control of all things, but yes. But you don't invite him to do something different, dude. Okay. This past weekend, right? Or this past week. All right. Somebody on our staff had a family member flying American Airlines, which is what I'm flying, okay. Out to California, which is where I'm going. Alright? And they did do an emergency landing over in El Paso because one of the windows shattered on the cockpit. That's un. That's disconcerting. That is disconcerting. Yes. Yeah. And I guess as they were deplaning, the pilot is there, as they always are to like greet people as they're coming off the plane. Yeah. And this guy had like glass and was, his shirt was all wet and everything else, so That's crazy. Yes. Was that on the news? I don't know. I'm sure it was somewhere. It's probably so common place now. Big deal. But like planes are going down all the time now. The oxygen masks drop down and that's crazy. That plane was shaking, so that's crazy. Hopefully I'm back in town. I prefer not to think in those ways. I'm with you on that and I know my family would as well, so Yeah. That's why I'm saying this after I'm already back in town, you could just take the bus. That'd be a long bus drive. Yeah. Plus there's some. Shady characters on the bus. But if you go on a nice bus, they have buses now where the seats are captain's chairs, and they vibrate and they have wifi. They're really cool looking buses, but I think I would've had to leave a lot earlier than I did. That's okay. That's okay. You're like, you can be gone longer than fine. Could be gone longer. Gone back in one piece on a nice bus ride. There it is. Get charter, a bus. There we go. Or buy a Tesla and have it drive you by itself. Or what if I just had Pastor Mark drive me? That works? Yeah. I volunteer Pastor Mark to take you. Okay. To and from California. Awesome. Great. It's done. It's done retroactively. Done. Done. Okay. Alright, let's jump into Zechariah 10. We're gonna finish Zechariah today. There's a lot in Zechariah. There is? Yeah. Yeah. It's a hard book. It is a hard book. Remind me why you didn't preach it again. I'm hurting right now. Because it didn't fit in the minor prophet series did not fit. Yeah. Tell Zacharia that. Hey buddy, I will. I'll be like, Hey, when you see him in heaven, luck, man. If you don't make it back from this plane flight thing, you say, Hey man, I need to apologize. You weren't able to fit into my series here. Yeah. He's gonna take issue with you, I'm sure. No, he won't because it'll be all good. Because we'll be in heaven. He'll be like, I understand. Yeah. You think so? Yeah. You think so? He'll be like, he confused me too. It's true. I bet. When he's going through these Yeah, he did though. He was confused by these things. 'cause he is having to ask, what does this mean? Peter said that. Yeah. Yeah. This is hard. It, yes, it is hard. So if you feel like it's hard, I'm on mute. Go ahead you, you're with everybody. Alright. Ze 10. The. The chapter 12, chapter 13. These are really encouraging and awesome chapters. Not that chapter 10 11 need to be jettison or anything. I'm not saying that, but Chapter 10 is this. Chapter 10 is basically God is focusing on the continued restorative work that he's going. Do that. The Messiah's gonna do he's gonna punish the false shepherds. So we've talked about shepherds before. These shepherds are most likely the spiritual leaders of Israel. And so the Messiah's gonna come and punish the false shepherds who had done so much harm to his people. And he is gonna then turn around and he's gonna be with them both as the true shepherd, the Good Shepherd. Think John chapter 10, but also as their powerful military ruler. So. The expected military political messiah, the Jews are going to get that Messiah. It's just not when they thought they were gonna get that he is going to come back and he is gonna come back with vengeance and he's going to conquer and he's gonna rule and he's gonna lead and nobody's gonna be able to stand up against him. But that's gonna be the millennial kingdom and that's what Chapter 10 is anticipating and looking forward to. So verses six through 12, then God promises to bring all Israel back during this time as he scattered them. So he's gonna bring them back and I find it interesting. He says, I'm gonna whistle for them to. To bring them back. It's almost like you whistle for your pet dog. It's like God's I'm gonna whistle for my people and they're gonna come back to me. My dad used to whistle for me and my brother. Yeah. And now is that weird? Was it like a unique whistle? You knew that was your dad's whistle? He's the only one who ever whistled. Okay. So I would say yes. Yes. It is unique in the fact that I. I only later in my life realized that it's really weird to have someone whistle for you. But was it like just a singular, like you heard it and you're like, okay, that's the whistle. I need to go back because he's the only one who whistles. That's my point though. No one else whistles. There's with a dog like you go. It wasn't like that wasn't, you're trying to, it wasn't like that but have you ever whistled for your kids? No. No. My dad whistled for us. I snapped at my kids. Okay. See yeah, I don't know. The whistle just feels. Unusual. It was no one else. No one else did. Yeah, that's fair. Anyway God's gonna whistle for his people. God's gonna whistle. So I guess it's fine actually. Yeah, I, after saying all that, it's clearly very fine. Yeah. Chapter 11 though is gonna provide a little bit of an interlude in a, in a flashback 'cause all these blessings are not gonna come immediately. 'cause Israel's gonna. The Messiah at his first appear, and they're gonna suffer judgment for it. And so verses one through three, you've got of chapter 11, that wrath is going to come. The people are gonna reject their true shepherd in verses four through 10 and then 12 and 13, they're gonna put his worth at 30 pieces of silver. That was the amount that a person would pay for a wounded slave during this time. And so that is the price that's put on the shepherd. That's also the price, if you're thinking about it, that's put on the life of Jesus as the Pharisees agree with. Judas to portray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. And we get some pretty detailed response that says, let it be given over to the potter, and then the money is gonna be taken and cast into the temple. That's exactly what happens when Judas agrees to betray. Jesus goes and does that feels guilty about it. Comes back, throws the money into the temple. And what do the religious leaders do with it? They take it and they buy the potters field and that's where the poor are going to be buried. So chapter 11 is really. Depicting the rejection of the Messiah at his first coming. Okay, so would Zacharia chapter 11 qualify? As prophecy about Jesus? I would say yes. Okay. I assume so. Yeah. That's how I understand it as well. Yeah. Most people probably would look at this and at face value as they read it, they're not gonna say, oh, this is clearly saying this is gonna be true of the Messiah. So how does this work then? Because we often, as Christians will tell unbelievers, look, you can trust the Bible because there's predictive prophecy in it. And we might even think about Zechariah 11, where you got the 30 pieces of silver, it gets tossed into the temple, yada. But it doesn't say that. It doesn't say, this is a prophecy predicting the Messiah's life. So how do we put those pieces together when it clearly doesn't say that, but we could say, man, this fits too well to be anything other than a predictive prophecy. And I think that's part of the nature of progressive revelation in that, is that is we have the fullness of gads revealed word. We're able to read the Old Testament with the New Testament. In mind. And we also read the New Testament with the Old Testament in mind. And so because we consider the full canon of scripture, we're able to understand at different layers what the Old Testament Saints didn't fully comprehend or comprehend, or didn't fully understand during that time. And even the New Testament saints didn't fully understand or fully comprehend. We have the fullness of it revealed to us in God's word. And that's a great privilege that we have. So we can look back at things like this and see, yes, there's fulfillment here. Even though this doesn't say this is specifically about the Messiah, we can read it and say this clearly is. Speaking of the Messiah, just like in Psalm 22, my God, why have you forsaken me? When David's talking about that, you could read that and say that's about David. But we read that and we're like, clearly this is about Jesus. He's looking forward to what's gonna happen to Jesus. And so here in Zechariah, I think it's the same principle. So if skeptic or one of our friends says, yeah you're just reading into it. You're reading into it what you want to read into it. You're encouraged to do so because it reinforces your belief system. Anything you might say to someone like that? I think we have to remember when we're arguing with an unbeliever about the interpretation of scripture, we're arguing with somebody that's not playing with a full deck. Not meaning mentally taco, short of a taco platter. Pickle. Short of A window. A window. No we're dealing with somebody who is. They don't have the spirit within them to be able to understand scripture. And so we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us who helps us understand scripture and understand all of these different layers and how they all correlate and connect to one another. So I think, not understand but accept. Maybe not understand. Yeah, fine. 'cause understanding is often challenged. Fair. But accept them and embrace them at face value. True by faith. Yes, true. So if you've got an unbeliever going, I don't see it. I'm not surprised at that. I'm not any, but at the same time, it's also not gonna shake my faith because you're dealing with somebody that's reading it without the aid and help of the Holy Spirit and dwelling them. Yeah. And I could also say too, all the scripture points to Jesus in some way, shape, or form. Yes. He's the pinnacle. Even as we said that, I think in the last podcast, we're trying to make the point here, the Old Testament points to Christ. Yes. And that's what he did with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. He showed them, beginning with Moses and looking at through the whole scriptures. He's pointing out this all points to me. Yeah. And if we read the scripture is looking at Jesus and we find ways that he, and this can go wrong, let just qualify. This can go wrong. And maybe there are books that are written that create a mountain out of a molehill. You shouldn't do that. But by and large, scripture does point to Jesus. So to see Jesus in these scriptures is not a wrong thing. Yeah, I agree with everything I just said. Chapter 12 through 14, really pivot to the future redemption and deliverance of Israel and chapter, I should say, chapter 11 ends by talking about this false shepherd that's gonna rise and that false shepherd that's gonna rise appears to be the antichrist. And the antichrist is gonna be on the scene again in chapter 12 because we open up with the battle of Armageddon. And we open up with the ultimate eschatological victory of Christ and his forces over the forces of evil. And so Chapter 12 sets up the millennial kingdom and sets up the future deliverance of the people of Israel. But we still have to deliver with deal with Israel's. Spiritual deliverance and the need for Israel to be spiritually acceptable before God because there's not a new way for them to be made right with God. It's always going to be the same as it was for you and for me. When it comes to our need to be made right with God, they've gotta have their sins dealt with or atoned for. And so that is depicted in verses 10 through 14 of chapter 12 and into chapter 13 verse one. Israel is gonna re realize that they made an error by rejecting the Messiah at his first coming, like we were just talking about in chapter 11. And that. Realization is gonna lead them to mourning. I think this is the godly grief that Paul talks about in Second Corinthians chapter seven. This is genuine repentance that is gonna lead to them trusting then in Jesus, chapter 13 verse one, and realizing that this fountain has been opened for them to cleanse them from sin. And that fountain is the blood of Christ. That fountain is the salvation. That was wrought for them at the cross. And so those that are part of God's people are going to make that decision. Is that everybody in the millennial kingdom? No. There's going to be those that still reject Christ and remain stubbornly disobedient during this time, but those that God is going to deliver spiritually during this timeframe are those that are going to have realized what they did. Now they meaning corporate Israel did in nailing him to the. The tree and then the repentance that then leads to faith that produces the forgiveness of sin. This redemption is going to be brought to Israel when they realize that the error in crucifying, the true shepherd, the good shepherd and that is what we see here in chapter 12 and 13. I love this imagery in chapter 13 of a fountain being opened. It reminds me that there's an ever. Flowing spring available to me where my sins can be forgiven and washed away. I can never outstand the grace of God because the fountain is eternal. It springs from the blood of Christ. It is his sacrifice on the cross that makes us clean, and that means all of my sin, past, present, and future has been dealt with. I love this and it means I can always go to this fountain. Jesus ever lives to intercede for me. Because of what he's done. And I love that. Eventually Israel's gonna see this. This is exciting to me. I can just imagine what it's gonna look like for the lights to finally turn on for them and for them to feel this mixture of deep sorrow and sadness and great joy and faith. I can't wait and I hope I get to see this day. Yeah. Yeah. In the end of chapter 13, this is I guess I should back up and correct something I said there. This is not yet the millennial kingdom because this is leading into that. This is them during the tribulation period. I think realizing the error of their ways, and so this is the purification of those that are gonna be. Genuine believers during this time because then the tribulation is going to come, and that's depicted here at the end of chapter 13 in verses seven through nine. And during this refining time of purifying the draws from the nation of Israel the nations are gonna gather against. Israel and against Christ again. And that's depicted in the Book of Revelation. And then we turn it to Zechariah, chapter 14, where the final victory is depicted. And this is where the Messiah is gonna return. He's gonna land both his feet on the Mount of Olives. The Mount is gonna split, there's gonna be a valley there, and the day of the Lord is going to come and establish the throne of Christ forever and ever from that time forward. The millennial kingdom is going to come, it's gonna be the. That time of great celebration and great joy, but I guess the repentance is taking place during the tribulation period. That precedes that. That makes sense. Yeah. Hey, you remember that song that Pastor Ben wrote? Yes. That looking upon the one that we pierced? Yeah, you should do that song. That's a good song. That's a great song. I love that song. Yeah. I think HB even recorded it on Spotify, is that right? Yeah. No kidding. Yeah. Not HB Charles Huntington Beach. Yeah. Yeah. I think they recorded, what's the name of that song? It's gotta be under Ben Blake's name. I would imagine so, yeah. I'm gonna look and see if I can find it. That's a great song. It is. Maybe we can link it for you guys, 'cause it's such a good song and it's based off of Zacharia chapter. 1212 is what it is. Yep. So lemme pray and then we'll be done with another episode and done with the Book of Zacharia. God we are. Anticipating that future time when you do open the eyes of the lost and open the eyes of the lost of the nation of Israel and show them Christ and meet their mourning with the great joy of knowing that their sins can be forgiven in Christ. Lord, we anticipate that day. We pray for that day. We ask even that you would hasen that day because that means you will have come back for your church and we'll be with you, and we want to be with you. We don't wanna be. Here anymore. We long to be in your presence and with our savior Jesus Christ, and so hasten that day. We do ask and we do pray, and I know we'll have a front row seat for a lot of this as it's unfolding before us. And so now just use books like Zechariah and others to prepare us as much as possible for that time and to cause us to our affections, to be stirred for that time so that we will long for it and pray for it, and work towards that end as well. So we pray this all in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Keep your Bibles tuned again tomorrow for another edition of the Daily Bible Podcast. Bye y'all. Bye.
