Buenas Dias from Sant Gervasi this is the Rorshok Spain Update from the twentieth of March twenty twenty-five. The writer is on holiday so this week we will list twelve movies worth watching connected to Spain in some way. In cronological order

1) Un chien andalou nineteen twenty-nine, Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí. Totally whacked out. But important cultural literacy.

2) For Whom the Bell Tolls nineteen forty-three with Ingrid Bergman, Adapted from Hemmingway's novel about the Spanish Civil War.

3) Welcome Mr. Marshall! Nineteen fifty-three, About preparations for a visit to a village by some Americans.

4) The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, nineteen seventy-two, Buñuel, nutty bunch trying to have dinner. Also Buñuel, That Obscure Object of Desire from nineteen seventy-seven

5) The Passenger nineteen seventy-five Antonioni movie with Jack Nicholson, mystry, thriller.

6) Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, nineteen eighty-eight, Pedro Almodovar, hilarious and great. There are a ton of great Almodovar movies but this is the first international hit and a great place to start.

7) Jamón, Jamón nineteen ninety-two with Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, nice small town love story.

8) L’Auberge Espagnole (The Spanish Apartment) two thousand two, Erasmus Students from all over Europe in Barcelona, hilarity ensues.

9) Lost in La Mancha two thousand two, about why Terry Gilliam couldn't make his most cherrished movie obsession, Don Quixote.

10) The Sea Inside, two thousand four with Javier Bardem, true story, drama.

11) Pan's Labyrinth, two thousand six, sent in nineteen forty-four, Guillermo del Toro, set just during the second world war, Wild dream world drama.

12) Ocho Apellidos Vascos twenty fourteen or "Eight Basque Last Names", there are many others in this series like Ocho Apellidos Catalanes, all screwball comedies based on regional steriotypes of Spain. Ridiculous and funny.

That's it for this week, hasta la proxima!
