Speaker AHere's today's reading.
Speaker BSo we're reading from Hebrews 13:7 21 from the Message Appreciate your pastoral leaders who gave you the Word of God.
Speaker BTake a good look at the way they live and let their faithfulness instruct you as well as their truthfulness.
Speaker BThere should be a consistency that runs through us all.
Speaker BFor Jesus doesn't change yesterday, today, tomorrow.
Speaker BHe's always totally himself.
Speaker BDon't be lured away from him by the latest speculations about Him.
Speaker BThe grace of Christ is the only good ground for life.
Speaker BProducts named after Christ don't seem to do much for those who buy them.
Speaker BThe altar from which God gives us the gift of himself is not for exploitation by insiders who grab and loot.
Speaker AIn the old system, the animals were.
Speaker BKilled and the bodies disposed of outside the camp.
Speaker BThe blood is then brought inside to the altar as a sacrifice for sin.
Speaker BIt's the same with Jesus.
Speaker BHe was crucified outside the city gates.
Speaker BThat is where he poured out the sacrificial blood that was brought to God's altar to cleanse his people.
Speaker BSo let's go outside where Jesus is, where the action is not trying to be privileged insiders, but taking our share in the abuse of Jesus.
Speaker BThis inside world is not our home.
Speaker BWe have our eyes peeled for the city about to come.
Speaker BLet's take our place outside with Jesus no longer pouring out the sacrificial blood of animals, but pouring out the sacrificial praises from our lips to God in Jesus name.
Speaker BMake sure you don't take things for granted and go slack in working for the common good.
Speaker BShare what you have with others.
Speaker BGod takes particular pleasure and acts of worship.
Speaker BA different kind of sacrifice that takes place in kitchen and workplace and on the streets.
Speaker BBe responsive to your pastoral leaders.
Speaker BListen to their counsel.
Speaker BThey are alert to the condition of your lives.
Speaker BAnd work under the strict supervision of God contributed to the joy of their leadership, not its drudgery.
Speaker BWhy would you want to make things harder for them?
Speaker BPray for us.
Speaker BWe have no doubts about what we're doing or why, but it's hard going and we need your prayers.
Speaker BAll we care about is living well before God.
Speaker BPray that we may be together soon.
Speaker BMay God, who puts all things together, makes all things whole, who makes a lasting mark through the sacrifices of Jesus Christ, the sacrifice of blood that sealed the eternal covenant, who led Jesus, our great shepherd, up and alive from the dead.
Speaker BNow put you together, provide you with everything you need to please him.
Speaker BMake us into what gives him most pleasure by means of the sacrifice of Jesus the Messiah.
Speaker BAll glory to Jesus forever and always.
Speaker BOh, yes, yes, yes.
Speaker BWell, friends, this is a reading here which is about living faith outside the gates.
Speaker BMy friends, it's me, Dr. Brad Miller here.
Speaker BAnd today we're diving into a powerful message from Hebrews that really challenges us to think about what authentic, authentic faith looks like in our modern world.
Speaker BYou know, it reminds me of some conversations that I've had with, with my granddaughters while we're taking walks.
Speaker BAnd they may ask me why some people seem to care more about being inside special groups than helping others.
Speaker BAnd wow, did that connect with today's scripture.
Speaker BSo let's explore this passage, Hebrews 13, 7:21, which talks about stepping outside our comfort zones and breaking down barriers.
Speaker BSomething that really resonates with progressive Christianity's emphasis on inclusive love and social justice.
Speaker BLet me give you some points to ponder.
Speaker BThe first is about breaking down insider outsider dynamics.
Speaker BJust as Jesus was crucified outside the city gates, we're called to move beyond exclusive religious spaces and and comfortable church walls.
Speaker BIt reminds me when my wife and I were traveling and we found some of our most meaningful spiritual moments were in the woods and we were serving in such a place that we could just see God's real presence there.
Speaker BThe author of Hebrews challenges us to stop creating privileged insider groups and instead meet people where they are redefining sacrifice.
Speaker BThis passage transforms our understanding of sacrifice from ritual offerings to practical acts of love and justice.
Speaker BI work with cancer patients from time to time through my podcast and I've learned that true worship often happens in soup kitchens and other places, not just in sanctuaries.
Speaker BAnd this text specifically mentions that God takes pleasure in acts of worship the that happen in kitchens and workplaces and streets.
Speaker BLeadership with Accountability the scripture talks about appreciating spiritual leaders while maintaining healthy accountability.
Speaker BIn my 30 years of marriage, I've learned that the best relationships, whether in church or family or community, thrive on mutual, open dialogue.
Speaker BThis isn't about blind obedience, but about collaborative spiritual growth.
Speaker BHere's your action step this week.
Speaker BIdentify one inside the gate's comfort zone in your life and intentionally step outside of it.
Speaker BMaybe it's having coffee with someone whose beliefs differ from yours, or joining some sort of a local justice movement, or serving in a community unlike your own.
Speaker BShare your experience with someone else to multiply its impact.
Speaker BLet's pray.
Speaker BOh God, you are the source of divine love and we sometimes find ourselves building walls when you call us to build bridges.
Speaker BHelp us laugh at our own prejudices as easily as I may laugh with my granddaughters at dumb dad jokes.
Speaker BGive us courage to step outside our gates of privilege and comfort.
Speaker BGuide us in redefining worship through acts of justice and compassion.
Speaker BMaybe it's even like a good basketball game.
Speaker BHelp us to play as a team, supporting each other while holding each other accountable.
Speaker BTransform our hearts and to see you in the unexpected places and faces.
Speaker BAmen.
