[00:00:00] Welcome back to Selling Your Expertise, the podcast that keep things real and gives you practical tools you can use. Right now. I'm your host Re Renee Hribar, and today's episode is all about what happens when you finally share. Your story. So on Monday, I asked you to focus on writing out one story, document one story, whether it was written or audio or video.

Just one. Let it paint a picture of how you help people. So did you do it? Let me tell you what happened when Emily, the character from our story on Monday finally shared her story. She posted a short story on LinkedIn about her first. Holy smokes moment as a new mom trying to rebuild her life. Nothing fancy, no graphics, just a clear story, [00:01:00] a little vulnerability, and a short note about how she now helps women navigate the exact same season.

You see a lot of women that hire Emily, they have also just started a business now, why they've started that business. They didn't know it was the same as Emily, but Emily, when she finally shared her story about why she actually needed to hang up her own shingle, why she could not continue in her corporate career, why after the divorce and having a 4-year-old nonverbal daughter made such an impact on her life that she needed to commit fully to being present for her daughter and also still make a living.

She shared a little bit about it. It was really just a, a, it wasn't long. It wasn't as if she wrote a whole book about it or made a, a big sob story, a big production. I just wanna emphasize it doesn't have to be a big deal. It's just a quick little share by the end of the [00:02:00] week. Emily had three dms saying, thank you for sharing that.

I feel so seen. I was also, and then they would fill in the blanks about how their story, whether it was a divorce or a first baby or a third baby or someone in their family got sick or they got sick. She had two discovery calls booked. She hadn't had any discovery calls booked in three months. Every single client she had gotten from the last three months had been from us directly reaching out to former clients and either getting them another contract to work on a different project or getting a direct referral, and she got one new client.

Boom. Right? Ba ba boom. Why did it work? Because stories build trust and you're not making this stuff up. This is already a fact. You're not creating anything. You're just sharing the news. So these stories, they humanize you. Up until now, you've probably developed a pretty [00:03:00] good brand, right? People know your business, they know that your business does these particular things, but the story of you, the founder, the why that lets people feel something, which is what leads them to take action and say things like, thank you for sharing that, and I read your story and I knew I needed to talk to you and.

I heard your story and I need to buy from you. So think about the people that you've seen share their stories and how you've felt when they've shared. I remember following a phenomenal blogger. This is back. Way before, this business, and I wasn't even, it wasn't even on my radar to get into the online space, but I remember she had shared her infertility story and I also had.

A story about that in my own life. And I was just captivated by her and, and it's [00:04:00] from her story that I started reading more and listening more and sort of dipping my toe into the idea of, well, what does it look like to have a quote unquote online business? And even though it wasn't that moment, and it wasn't even that year, and it wasn't even with her, but it was that.

Person, and I still follow her to this day, and I think I bought her book. I did become a customer. So when Emily shared her story, she got results. But I'll tell you, I still remember the moment that Emily told me that she had signed that client, because here's the deal, the client was also a single mom.

From New Jersey. She said the call went so well and at the end, the woman admitted it was the recent story that Emily had shared about taking her daughter to a college reunion that made her realize they had so much in common and that if she ever needed a web designer, she was going to hire Emily. [00:05:00] And then something happened with her website and she said, you know what?

That's a sign I'm calling Emily. Emily had no idea who this person was. She had no idea this person was following her or was even aware of her content or her business. But here's what I want you to do, is I want you to get results like Emily got. Take the story you wrote down on Monday and share it. Pick a place, your email list, your Instagram, your LinkedIn, your podcast, your favorite Facebook group.

Two, add a clear call to action. Something simple like, message me if this resonates or wanna chat more about this, or, this is exactly why I created this offer. And don't just post and pray, please. Posting is not enough. Use it as a reason to reach out. And honestly, think about the people that have already been in your life, people that you've already met.

Maybe they, were in. Program you had together or they were in a [00:06:00] summit that you were in, or they were in a freebie bundle, or you're on their email list or you saw their videos, whatever it is, reach out to the people in your network. A few people personally, 3, 4, 5 people. I talk about this a lot in my book.

Of course I teach it into in my program, but it's exactly what I teach in my zero to sales in 10 minutes a day system. It is so much more than just marketing. It is your doorway into meaningful conversations with potential clients, connectors and collaborators. And here's my invitation to you. if you're not already on my email list, what are you doing?

Get on there. I've got resources that make this whole selling your expertise thing feel a whole lot easier. And even, dare I say fun. And yes, you can hit reply to any email I ever send you and ask me anything. And remember the right story shared in the right place opens doors you didn't even know we're there.

You're not just selling what you do, [00:07:00] you're sharing who you are. Let them see it. Talk soon. See you Monday. Have a great weekend.
