[00:00:00] Welcome back to Katching Up With Katie. You'll notice it's a little different looking. It's
[00:00:06] only been how many years in the making of kind of looking like a podcast room? At least two. I
[00:00:14] don't know. Three. I don't know. I was like, is that two? I was still working on the intro. So,
[00:00:21] we have this room that was never meant to actually be a podcast room, and we were like,
[00:00:27] let's film in there. And so we put the two chairs and like a desk, and it's not very big. And so
[00:00:33] then I bought this table to be a kitchen table from my house. Yeah. And then I came up with
[00:00:42] the idea. Yeah. That a round table should be in here. Should be in here. And it happened. We got
[00:00:50] it. Nate has been telling me to do a round table for a long time. We probably have it in podcasts,
[00:00:59] probably talking about a round table. It's going to be a dual-purpose area because, you know,
[00:01:06] we're nerds and we've talked about it a lot. Stop. There's the preface. Stop. We are nerds and we
[00:01:13] like Dungeons and Dragons, and so this is going to be our Dungeons and Dragons lair. This is our new
[00:01:18] lair. This is the lair. So, it's like a bare room right now. It has nothing on the walls. There's
[00:01:24] no shelving, but we're going to work on that. So, today it's like an actual catch-up. I feel
[00:01:30] like the last few weeks we've always had somebody as like a guest and we've been chatting with them
[00:01:36] about very specific topics, and today is just a little catch-up. It's just back to the roots. Back
[00:01:43] to the roots. Back to the roots. And I do have a little list because I put a prompt on Facebook.
[00:01:49] Facebook is kind of where it gets the most. I'm not going to lie. That's the social platform that
[00:01:55] gets the most pictures and status posts. And so I put a little prompt asking what some of you
[00:02:01] would like. Yeah, I subscribed to the wrong one. I subscribed to the Instagram one, let me tell you.
[00:02:08] Subscribers get the same things. I only did it to get my DMs read. And that didn't even work. So,
[00:02:18] I'm sorry. Do you still get the automated? Yeah. They were so ruthless when we started using an
[00:02:24] automated. Actually, I think I just got it so I could see subscriber content, and then I never
[00:02:29] unsubscribed. And so no, you just subscribed to my email list. No, I subscribed to you. No,
[00:02:35] I wanted to see the apron ad. Yeah, you wouldn't. That's crazy. Worth every penny. So yeah,
[00:02:45] Matt. What was so funny about that was Ahbra, the night that we made the apron ad. So, we have
[00:02:50] aprons in my store. Can we put a little popup of Matt wearing my apron? I have a picture. We have
[00:02:57] aprons in the store and we were launching them to subscribers first, because that's what we do when
[00:03:02] we have limited quantity. And it was late at night at the horse show. Like, we were just like, crap,
[00:03:09] we still have to do this. No, that's not true. We still had to do the apron ad. And I was like,
[00:03:14] "Matt, put this apron on." And then Ahbra was so mad at me. She was so mad. She's like,
[00:03:21] "You couldn't just put it on." And I haven't seen this. It sold. Well, you haven't seen it.
[00:03:27] Hold on. I haven't seen you in the apron. Hold, please. I'm not a subscriber. Well,
[00:03:32] I think it made it around to the Reddit page. I'm about to title this video "Matt Unsubscribes."
[00:03:40] Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, that's great. With the cowboy hat on. Look at that pick of you.
[00:03:47] I know. Send that to me. Yeah. You want that? Well, so I can put in the video.
[00:03:53] You seem like there's a little glint of cheer in the eyes. Oh, he was ready. He was like twirling.
[00:04:00] Yeah, he was doing it. The rare occasion I was overly optimistic one evening. He wasn't being
[00:04:07] surly and emo. And speaking of that trip, because it leads into something I want to talk about. Mhm.
[00:04:16] We dyed your hair and you showed up with dyed hair. Yeah. Are we all in like a hair crisis?
[00:04:21] Well, it was conditional. Like, we had talked about it for a long time, and then it was like,
[00:04:25] "Well, if I do it, you do it." And he did it, so I did it. So like he just showed up to Kentucky
[00:04:29] looking like that, and we were all just like... because he had hair down here. It was very
[00:04:36] different. I cut it, dyed it. Same appointment. Did you show up? No, you showed up at the house
[00:04:44] looking like James Potter. That's right. Yeah. And then you went and did something else. Yeah,
[00:04:49] I went James Potter and then, you know, I wore that a few days and I got more James
[00:04:53] Potter. And then I thought that's a little too much James Potter. So, the glasses don't help.
[00:05:01] They're circular. And I didn't want to put myself into a box, so I just made another appointment.
[00:05:05] And you did a little blonde. Yeah, I went blonde. Got a lot more texture. What's the morning routine
[00:05:13] like nowadays with that hair? Do you have to work for that hair, or is that just... I don't
[00:05:17] really have to do much at all. That's just how it is. I just put like a little something in it,
[00:05:22] and it just... yeah, just have my styling stuff here. As a matter of fact, I also try not to look
[00:05:29] at it. The amount of stuff that he leaves at my home. I don't know. Really, foaling season.
[00:05:35] He also had a hair crisis, and he's wanted... I don't even think you're at your full form yet.
[00:05:41] You're not at your full form yet, because you wanted like silver hair. Yeah. And it received
[00:05:48] a warm welcome from everybody that I was worried about hating it. My wife, my church, and my dad.
[00:05:56] In no particular order. In no particular order. And they all loved it. But yeah, certainly
[00:06:04] Rachel did it in Kentucky. And Rachel, that is a notable thing. Rachel did do this in Kentucky,
[00:06:08] and she had had experience as a hairdresser, retired for who knows how long. There was
[00:06:16] certainly risk involved, because, you know, being a hairdresser for 10 years... she could have been
[00:06:20] a bad hairdresser for 10 years. Could have been. So certainly a lot of risk and trust on my part,
[00:06:26] but she came through. And everybody who I know who's a hairdresser, which is two people,
[00:06:32] said that it was really, really, really good and done really well. But I think it's just not
[00:06:37] what I wanted. I wanted silver. I wanted like, you know, the Dr. Matthew Silver Fox kind of
[00:06:43] vibes. Okay, so like gray. No, I just wanted to throw his name out there. I really want silver,
[00:06:48] like almost white, like Targaryen silver. If that helps you visualize, like Targaryen. I did get
[00:06:55] reprimanded — well, reprimanded is not the right word — but slightly, when I was talking to Rachel
[00:07:01] and I was questioning her a little bit on if this was going to get silver. It didn't. And she said,
[00:07:09] "Have you been doing hair for 10 years?" And I said, "No, I'll be quiet." But then it's not
[00:07:15] silver. No. So, it's worth noting you started with dark brown hair. Yeah. And when you bleach
[00:07:22] stuff... well, he dyed it darker. You had... that's the thing, too. You had dye in it. No,
[00:07:28] you had virgin hair. I had virgin. Yeah. But y'all dyed it first. The roots. Because he wanted
[00:07:34] contrast, right? Yeah. Yeah. That's right. That's right. And it's worth noting that when you bleach,
[00:07:42] you can't just get to like white immediately without just killing your hair. Like, you have
[00:07:48] to work at that. But I'm still disappointed. You would have made the sacrifice. That doesn't make
[00:07:54] me any less sad. No, but I don't hate it. I'm still kind of torn. Like, I don't even know if
[00:07:58] I'll even go... yeah. I think blonde looks cool. It looks great blonde. But yeah, I do have the
[00:08:03] toner. It is blonde for sure. But I don't know what your heart wants. Yeah. And it's silver. I
[00:08:07] have the toner. I just don't know what the process is, but somebody... do you have purple shampoo?
[00:08:13] Rachel said not to use that. Now, grant, maybe she said to use... she probably said to use that.
[00:08:20] No. So, I did put it in my hair. Purple shampoo. Maddie said... I'm pretty sure she said no purple.
[00:08:27] She's on vacation. I still would call her, but there's a ladybug on that light. Notable. Maddie
[00:08:38] told me to put purple shampoo in my hair dry, and so I did that. She said to leave it in for like
[00:08:44] 10 or 15 minutes, and I fell asleep on the couch for like an hour, and I washed it out, and it was
[00:08:50] like... it really was super, super light, but it faded after that. Like, it got blonde again. So I
[00:08:55] don't know what the answer is other than going to the hair salon and saying I want more. Yeah, chat,
[00:09:00] help us out on the hair. And also help me out on the hair, because Katie's hair is perfect. No,
[00:09:06] it's not. She literally has like elven locks. I did... we went to our anniversary dinner last
[00:09:13] night, and so you would have loved my hair last night. It was elven. Yeah. Do you want to see...
[00:09:17] where did you go? Where'd you go? We went to Ruth's Chris. Okay. In Nashville, and it was
[00:09:22] very good. I didn't throw up, because we went to a work dinner on Friday. That's the standard
[00:09:27] for a good night out. We went to a work dinner on Friday, and like, all for nothing, because I got
[00:09:34] so carsick on the way home that I threw up all over our driveway. That's notable. But we had a
[00:09:41] great dinner last night. Anyway, I was like sweaty outside doing everything, and I was like, "Oh,
[00:09:46] I have to get ready for this anniversary dinner." And so I came in and like dry-shampooed the crap
[00:09:51] out of my hair, and then I did that. It's kind of a curl at the bottom. Yeah. Well, it was supposed
[00:09:57] to be curl throughout. Says braided. Wow. The little curl at the bottom. But that looks nice.
[00:10:03] That's the problem. That is the problem, is that my hair is so... like, it's underneath the table,
[00:10:11] like too much. It's too much. It's too thick. It's too... how many likes does this video have to get
[00:10:18] to bob it? Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. A half a million. Like, oh, I'm so sorry. I will not bob it.
[00:10:28] For somebody that could pull off anything like yourself, I feel like that's not the craziest.
[00:10:35] Anyone that tells me to get a bob is praying on my downfall. I'm just going to say that. Like,
[00:10:39] I think bobs, they're back, dude. Anybody that... because I love a good bob on someone that can do
[00:10:44] it. I am not a bob person. I had my hair up to here. What's like your one, if you could just have
[00:10:49] it for a day and then like put it back to normal? Oh, I really like a shaggy... like I would do like
[00:10:57] a mullet. Like you like something that you would have, like a wolf cut? Yeah, like super wolf cut.
[00:11:04] Yeah, I would do that. But I want my hair back the next day. But I mean, kind of like that. I
[00:11:10] haven't cut my hair in 14 months. It's all like just one length. Yeah. And I do really want to
[00:11:18] go get a ton of layers, chop it, because like I think last May I chopped it to here. So I mean,
[00:11:24] that's like all this year's growth. Yeah. And I want to go chop it and do something color-wise.
[00:11:32] What, you're going to go blonde, like weave it in, like a thing or whatever, and make it like a
[00:11:38] whole thing? She had my hair in the whole thing. You take like the last six inches of her tail,
[00:11:45] it's like yours woven in. Yeah, because she's showing for Kennedy. Yeah. Like, doesn't she have
[00:11:51] like a tail thing? She has... yeah. A fake tail. What are you talking about? We could put the last
[00:11:55] six inches of your hair. You cut six inches off and then weave it into her tail or like weave it
[00:11:59] into her. Now y'all are like truly... and now you become one. That's like your unification ceremony.
[00:12:06] And then she like starts winning. Then she starts winning everything. We're not avatars. Yeah, dude.
[00:12:13] Then once you start like being able to hear her thoughts, it's like she starts winning everything,
[00:12:17] and she's getting ready. She's like, "Where's my hair?" What's that show called? What's that
[00:12:21] zebra movie called? Racing Stripes. Yeah. Is that what it is, with the flies? Secretary. Yeah. Oh,
[00:12:27] yeah. She can't hear his thoughts, dude. I know, but that just made me think of that movie. Anyway,
[00:12:31] moving forward. Okay. Anyway, I want to know because I want to color it, and I've been
[00:12:38] told when I have my hair super dark and with bangs that I look a little like Ella Langley.
[00:12:45] I've been told I look a little like Ella when I have my bangs and when it's really dark.
[00:12:53] You know how most supplements are built for everyone, which basically means built for no one?

[00:13:53] You do look good in bangs. I think the bangs will come back, but I need some color. Like,
[00:13:59] do I go... I've been blonde before. I think blonde. Do you go blonde? Do I go blonde? I
[00:14:04] think blonde would be great. Do I do a balayage? Do I do highlights? COVID and like pink and blue,
[00:14:10] like COVID era, like everybody's getting crazy. I didn't do that. You didn't have to go outside. My
[00:14:14] wife did. I had a little pink in there. You could have any hair you wanted. Did you like it? Oh,
[00:14:20] yeah. All for it. I'd put some pink in my hair if I had like your wolf cut. Mine would be like pink.
[00:14:24] Like, completely like a whatever green blue. You could do that, though. You could do that. Yeah.
[00:14:29] But then I wouldn't like the same thing. I'm just saying like my one that I would have for one day
[00:14:33] and put it back. I just feel like I hit 30 and I'm like, I need something. You need a tattoo.
[00:14:41] No. Something heavy. No. Me and Jonathan, we're like on like a no-tattoo... like, I know y'all
[00:14:48] talk about it. We've talked about it in the past, but it hasn't been revisited. Like, we were like,
[00:14:54] "Yeah, we're just not going to do tattoos." Okay. I think you would look good blonde. You could do
[00:14:59] blonde. It's been a minute. So, like, yesterday was my anniversary. So, a lot of the pictures were
[00:15:04] popping up from my wedding, and I dyed my hair darker for our like big wedding, because during
[00:15:11] COVID we had to get married twice. So, for my like elopement, my balayage was like grown out. And
[00:15:21] did that spark something? Balayage. It is. It's like where they dye it
[00:15:26] but not all the way to the root. So that was a way for me to be lazy,
[00:15:31] and like have my hair... spell that. Balayage. B-A-L-A-Y-A-G-E. Not even close. B-A-L-A-Y-A-G-E.
[00:15:42] Babylonia. It's a freehand hair painting. Like this picture from my like first wedding.
[00:15:53] Look at my hair. Oh, do that. Yeah, do that. Do that. You look great. I think it would be a
[00:15:59] breath of fresh air. Killed my hair. But imagine we all go blonde. But what? Like, you have hair
[00:16:02] to kill. You know what I'm saying? Imagine, like what's the worst-case scenario? You lose a third
[00:16:06] of it. It just absolutely... that was with it being kind of like... that was kind of... it's
[00:16:15] been months since... I'll go more blonde. I would, dude. If you like... I would be such a hype man if
[00:16:20] I walked in and you were like that, dude. I would embarrass you, how much I would compliment you.
[00:16:29] Why not? I've got to get an appointment because I can't let Rachel, because me and Rachel work too
[00:16:34] closely together, and so if she burnt my hair off, right, that would be... yeah, that would
[00:16:39] not be good. I'm not saying she would burn my hair off. I'm just saying the risk is there. But
[00:16:43] you're saying she's been out of it a while? No, I don't... the risk is certainly higher with... I've
[00:16:49] had friends that were active hairdressers that I'm like, "You can't do my hair. I'm sorry." Yeah,
[00:16:54] I would just, especially if I'm cutting it, too. So, I think I need ideas. They say to do
[00:17:02] that. Let me know what y'all think. Or blend. I accidentally did exactly what you just said,
[00:17:09] where I left this blue mask on that was supposed to take all the brassiness out, because that's the
[00:17:17] thing — having blonde hair is just so much more high-maintenance. And so I left this mask on way
[00:17:23] too long and I had blue hair. Oh no, that's for a bit. I'm down for some colored hair,
[00:17:30] dude. I'm 30 too. I'm getting to like... no, you're not. I am too. No, you are. I'll be 29. You'll
[00:17:38] be... he's 28. I'll be 29 in October. I feel like I'm 44. Nate's well into his 30s. Wow.
[00:17:47] I'm really glad you turned 29 before I turned 32. It's really crazy. He doesn't though. It's really
[00:17:53] crazy like that. I'm like the youngest. Your birthday's in like a week and a half. Oh, no. No,
[00:17:58] it's not. A month ahead. Yeah, but it's coming up. No, he's going to still be 28 and you're
[00:18:02] going to be 32. Be 32. Okay. You're the oldest of the group. I thought we were in a different month.
[00:18:11] I think we should do it live. We should color your hair live. You should. Wow. Should I just
[00:18:15] hire a hairdresser? Bring them here. Bring them here. Hire like a blonde specialist. A
[00:18:20] blonde specialist. And say, "Fix us." And then all three. We can all three do it. Let's get a
[00:18:24] vat of bleach and stick our heads. We can bring three specialists and we can all do it at the
[00:18:28] same time. That's an expensive day. You can start extra early, because you have more hair. That's
[00:18:35] the thing. I don't know that y'all know how long it would take with just doing my... like,
[00:18:39] usually I go get an all-over color and I just go a little darker, and then I get my hair cut and
[00:18:44] I do like an Olaplex treatment. That's five hours right there. That's no blonde. Maybe we'll just do
[00:18:50] a before and after. Everything that's in it right now is just kind of like natural highlights. We'll
[00:18:56] just take a before and after pic. Yeah. And just hang out the whole time. Oh my goodness. So yeah,
[00:19:00] we had our anniversary dinner. Six years. How long have y'all been married?
[00:19:04] Oh. Jesus. 21. Four. Five. Four. Coming on five. What? The next one will be five. Our
[00:19:14] next one will be five. Next one will be five. You both got married in 2021. Is that right?
[00:19:21] 21. I got married in 21. I got married in 22, but it's already passed. Wait. 21. It
[00:19:28] had to have been. Yeah. I think it was 22. I got married in 21. 23. 24. 25. And we've had
[00:19:34] ours this year. Wait. Yeah. My next one will be my fifth for sure. Yeah. Our fourth was
[00:19:39] this year. Okay. And it's already passed. Gotcha. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Four, five, six.
[00:19:48] Okay. Did y'all do anything for your anniversary? Are you going to do anything for your anniversary?
[00:19:53] We forgot about... I think we forgot. We forgot. And already like on Friday. Mine was like two
[00:19:58] weeks ago or last month. We were like, "Did we... I think it's this weekend." And so we just tried
[00:20:04] to get in somewhere for dinner. We were the same way. We're like, "Our anniversary is tomorrow."
[00:20:10] Whoa. Snuck up. Okay. Well, we've just like jibber-jabbered. We actually have some things
[00:20:16] people want to know. So one of the things, which I think is an interesting topic, is how many years
[00:20:23] have we been doing this? 2023 was our first one. Very beginning of '23. Yeah. Almost as long as
[00:20:28] we've been married. So, three and a half years we have been doing the YouTube channel in one way or
[00:20:34] the other. We're married to this job. Yeah, it feels that way. So with that being said, that's
[00:20:43] still a baby channel in my opinion. Yeah. It is. Three and a half years is still a baby channel,
[00:20:47] and we're over a million subscribers, which is... oh, we're over a million. That was great. We are
[00:20:56] over a million subscribers. So with that being said, it's been great. We keep learning new
[00:21:04] things, we keep trying new things, like we keep evolving. Yeah. What are your own personal ideas?
[00:21:12] So it's not even a goal. Yeah. Because it doesn't even have to happen. Like, it could just be what
[00:21:19] you think we should do with the channel going forward. What is your idea? Live podcast. Yeah,
[00:21:26] I think a live show, like, hey, we're going to announce, and the first year we do like a run
[00:21:33] of 10. We hit like 10 major cities or whatever in the southeast, or whatever, and then we pick
[00:21:39] like a cool little hangout place, do the podcast, answer some questions back and forth with people,
[00:21:45] get some musical guests to partner with. It's like a whole event thing. But who wants to sit there
[00:21:50] and live listen to us talk? It's a thing. I think it's more like I want to live hang out with them,
[00:21:59] right? I want to get a room of the homies watching, who I see in the comments,
[00:22:03] and be like... like, what's her name? Who's like the star D&D? Yes. Like, you helped us
[00:22:12] so much in D&D. Literally taught us the game. But that I just think would be cool. Okay,
[00:22:18] so live show in person I think would be awesome. Well, the last time we had this conversation,
[00:22:25] we said round table, and look where we are now. So, nothing's impossible. Nothing is impossible.
[00:22:31] There was a really long stint of y'all trying to get me to play Dungeons and Dragons as well. Yeah,
[00:22:36] I know. We just keep chipping away. I think we were talking about the other day that we missed
[00:22:42] doing a podcast in the Airbnb a little bit. Yeah, you missed doing it in the Airbnb. Nostalgia.
[00:22:48] Yeah. Like, that was like back in the day. Like, I remember, and I would get in trouble for leaving
[00:22:54] stuff in there. Yeah. By my mom. I think it would be fun to do a show where you try food. No,
[00:23:03] that would be a really fun segment. Do you know how much it would take, like how much money it
[00:23:08] would take, for me to willingly do that? Like everybody else does and fake it. Yeah. I won't.
[00:23:14] I think that would be a great show. But it would be great because you won't. I think anything along
[00:23:18] those lines, like you doing experiences... like I think at some point eventually, the like, we
[00:23:25] always have the day-to-day stuff, but like I want to see Katie Van Slyke skydive. I want to see Katie
[00:23:29] Van Slyke go live in Walmart for 24 hours. I want to see Katie Van Slyke do an escape room. So you guys
[00:23:38] just really want to be YouTube-y. Yeah. I mean, just real... that's crazy. Let's just say like,
[00:23:44] all right, we're going to go find the best pizza in Nashville, you know, like whatever,
[00:23:48] like something like that, like an experience. I would be totally fine to start a second channel
[00:23:52] to explore these ventures. Yeah, we're going to go into the art. So, here's the problem. We are
[00:23:57] already like skirting on time to get the videos working. You said that this was just whatever.
[00:24:03] Yeah, we're in dreamland. She's like, let me tell you why that's dumb. It's never going to
[00:24:09] work. Okay. Sorry. I'm dream crushing. Continue. Yeah, I think we could do it. I think, you know,
[00:24:16] just get off prop. I think videos off prop, shows are fun, and just more... what would you call it?
[00:24:31] I think group experience videos would be fun. So, like... sorry, the vet was texting. Drop us three
[00:24:39] off in an escape room, corn maze, somebody's gonna film it, we're gonna try to get out of there.
[00:24:46] You're just putting me in some uncomfy situations. Yeah, but it's the tension. We want the tension.
[00:24:55] I said a line in one of the recent videos that I just really resonate with. I said to someone,
[00:25:04] "I don't think you know me well enough to know how little I like to be uncomfortable." Yeah. Or what
[00:25:10] did I say? I said, "I'm incompatible with being uncomfortable." Something like that. Yeah. You
[00:25:16] said, "You don't know me, my distaste for being uncomfortable is immense." Is exactly what you
[00:25:25] said. Yes. I listened to it twice. Got it. I know exactly what you're talking about. That should be
[00:25:34] at minute 6:43. And I feel like that really sums me up. Yeah. Which I get, like, you know, I can
[00:25:41] go like hunting and stuff like that, and like in 10-degree weather. Sure. As long as I'm warm. So,
[00:25:48] then you need to take the route of more like you be the Mr. Beast running the game. Yeah,
[00:25:54] maybe that's it. Yeah, she loves doing that today. She loves doing that. So
[00:25:59] we need to do that. You should let me hit you in the face with this placenta.
[00:26:05] But she won't try a mushroom Swiss burger.
[00:26:10] So maybe... yeah, so maybe that's the direction. So then,
[00:26:14] we can play the games. Yeah. And then it's just like... yeah. She's going to say, "Hey,
[00:26:18] I designed this, I'm putting my employees in Walmart for 24 hours to see." Yeah. I'm
[00:26:23] dropping them off in an escape room, but it's a second channel. I cannot be this like tyrant. No,
[00:26:29] it's like a tyrant. It's like Mr. Beast. You're the ghost. I think the power would get to me,
[00:26:34] and I think I would... Judy was a showrunner. She's like, "So, what about
[00:26:44] not real, of course." Okay. Interesting thoughts. Yeah, I think that stuff would be fun. More
[00:26:52] realistically, a live podcast. Yeah, I think a live podcast and I think a live weekly show. Not
[00:26:59] streaming. I think that's more realistic. I just don't know... I don't think people would want
[00:27:05] to watch us live. Well, they'll answer. Well, I have a lot of faith and confidence. And the way
[00:27:11] I've always said is like, imagine what a hundred people in a room, like, you know, if a hundred
[00:27:16] people in a room, that's a lot of people. That's a lot of people. So, if a hundred people in the
[00:27:20] comments say that they would do it, it's at least worth consideration. Yeah. My birthday party was
[00:27:25] 100 people and that was just like... not that many people. That was quite a bit of people. I've never
[00:27:29] had that many people at my birthday party. Let's pin a comment and like it if you would go. Yeah,
[00:27:36] just a little test the waters. Well, it's not even if you would go. It's like, would you buy a ticket
[00:27:42] and go? Yeah, but it's also an experience. It would be an experience. Just sitting down and like
[00:27:48] watching and catching up. That would just be why you're there. And then the extra stuff is like,
[00:27:52] you know, the Q&A, little segment, Q&A segment. Music guest probably, maybe a comedian, somebody
[00:28:01] like, you know, we could build out a whole like a show. You build out a show. Certainly worth it.
[00:28:06] Yeah, for sure. Certainly worth the experience. So that kind of does fall into this next question,
[00:28:15] because talking about the future of things, what about five-year goals? I would love knowing
[00:28:24] people's five-year goals. I'm so nosy and I love to know what you're working on and what... like,
[00:28:30] I know you've got some little outside hobbies, and I just want to know your goals,
[00:28:35] because I have to root for people just in general life. In general, it could be work, it could be
[00:28:41] in general life. It could be if you're wanting to move, if you're wanting to sell your house,
[00:28:46] if you're wanting to get really good at golf, if you're wanting to... I mean there's lots of goals.
[00:28:51] Are you wanting me to go first? My five-year goal would probably be... I definitely would like to
[00:28:59] make a couple movies in the next five years. Mhm. I would also like to get good enough at golf that
[00:29:08] they will let me attempt to play in the US Open, which... you've just got to get scratched. Just
[00:29:16] be a scratch golfer and they'll let you try. They will. Yeah. Okay. So, how many people do
[00:29:22] they allow to do that? Is there a cap? There's no cap on how many can try. Basically, there's like
[00:29:27] local tournaments, and then the top X amount from each tournament move on to another tournament,
[00:29:33] and then they play, and then the top move on to another one, and then eventually I think...
[00:29:38] I don't know how many spots, but then you're in. What is usually the entry level of like... okay,
[00:29:44] if you're playing an 18-hole course — I'm using all of my golf knowledge right now — what under
[00:29:50] par do you probably need to be to be qualified for that? If you're playing from the farthest
[00:29:58] back tees, probably around even or one over. Oh, so not even like under par. No,
[00:30:16] most courses are rated around 72. So if you shoot par, you're scratch. Okay. What are you
[00:30:25] shooting at this moment? Right now my problem is stamina. I don't have enough energy to get
[00:30:35] through like the grind of a four-and-a-half-hour round. Usually about a little over three hours
[00:30:40] I start kind of wearing down, because I'm just not as physically fit as I used to be.
[00:30:45] But I played Saturday and I was one over through 14 holes. Gotcha. And then fell apart. Shot 80.
[00:30:55] Had a total meltdown in the last few holes. But I think I definitely have the game to do it. I
[00:31:00] think I can do it. Okay. I've never played golf in my life. You would have fun watching. I think
[00:31:09] I would say a lot of swear words if I tried. Yeah. But you seem like... I think you would have a good
[00:31:13] time in a cart. Just get some music, some vibes, little fan. I would be a cart girl. Absolutely,
[00:31:22] back in the day. I wish I knew that was a job. I would have done that in college. I love to talk to
[00:31:27] people, drive around, make little drinks. I would have done that. Yeah, I would have loved that. So,
[00:31:33] I'm going to try to get to scratch golf and make a couple movies in the next five years. What? So,
[00:31:39] like short films or like movies? I think I want to make long ones. Yeah. Do you have any topics
[00:31:47] lined up? I just naturally lean horror. I think I would be good at creating like tense moments.
[00:31:57] So that's just like where my mind naturally goes. I would love to do like dramas,
[00:32:04] like a movie like The Social Network or something, where it's like these
[00:32:08] tense moments but you're never scared. I would love to do that, but as far as like writing,
[00:32:14] I don't feel like I'm as good at that, and my idea generation always goes to like it could be scary,
[00:32:24] and so that's just like my default. Yeah. Okay. So movies and trying to get to scratch at the US
[00:32:34] Open. Well, if I get to scratch, they say you're good enough that we'll let you try. I see. You've
[00:32:42] met the threshold of we'll allow you to attempt. Okay. Which is all I would like to do. Okay. Well,
[00:32:49] that's something we will root for you for now. Thank you. Thank you,
[00:32:53] Matthew. You've had enough time to think. Just overall self-improvement, I think. Would like
[00:33:01] to have a farm by then. A farm for animals or for hunting? Just land for investing, for literally
[00:33:10] everything. Make money off of. Yeah. Certainly would like to make... I imagine whatever movie
[00:33:16] he's making we'll be doing together. Tag team that. So that's always on the radar. I have...
[00:33:23] do you need a female lead? No. I have ideas and whatnot. Myself, I'm really like... I just have
[00:33:35] this strong desire to pursue a career in metal music, but I know that I don't have the desire to
[00:33:50] what was that? That was Frankie playing with the chicken downstairs. Yo, that was... could you hear
[00:33:57] that? Yeah, maybe. That was funny. Short version — I don't think I have the desire to go through
[00:34:04] with it or stick it out in order for it to be successful, and I like what I'm doing now. So,
[00:34:09] you could just be like our friend who sings metal at our parties. That's just not cool,
[00:34:12] though. I would either have to do it or not do it. What would be your biggest hiccup in that process?
[00:34:21] What I know it takes to be successful, and like, you know... I've never heard you sing metal music,
[00:34:28] though. Well, it's not something you like... you're sitting around the campfire and, hey,
[00:34:32] is anybody... you know, somebody get the guitar.
[00:34:39] That's actually exactly what I would want to happen. But I really like what I'm doing,
[00:34:44] and I've always wanted to make movies, but my faith and trust and just idea, I guess, of the
[00:34:56] film industry has just like waned and withered every single year. Like, it just keeps getting
[00:35:02] worse and worse and worse. And it makes it... it's like deflating my balloon of wanting to do it,
[00:35:09] you know? It's like, yeah, now I don't know if I want to, but I think there's certainly an era like
[00:35:14] everything has its seasons, and it takes people to make changes and make movies worth seeing again.
[00:35:21] So certainly want to be a part of that change as well. So maybe get some filming experience,
[00:35:26] just making movies, putting stuff out there. And if for no other reason than I almost detest being
[00:35:33] a talker — I don't like just talking about doing things, like, "Oh, I really want to do this," and
[00:35:40] then just saying they want to do something and they never do it — even if it doesn't work or
[00:35:44] sucks, that just makes a pit in my stomach, and even if I don't want to do it, I'm going to do
[00:35:52] it. Yeah. Because I don't want to be a talker. I want to do. I can certainly say that if I died
[00:35:58] tomorrow, I would have no shortage of experiences, just because I like... give it a shot. Yeah,
[00:36:05] I'll give it a shot. Give it a shot. What about you? I have a lot of stuff that I'd like to happen
[00:36:12] in the next five years, but also I know that if I look at five years ago, my plans were very
[00:36:21] different. And so I have a plan, but I'm also open to just letting the Lord just move me, you know,
[00:36:31] like whatever plan I come up with, his plan is usually so much better. Yeah. And so I think
[00:36:39] being open to changes has helped me so much in the long run. Got to be. And so like, for instance,
[00:36:48] we started this channel three years ago. Yeah. Three years ago, like I didn't have a single
[00:36:52] employee. Y'all were contract workers that I had hired to like help with the YouTube channel, and
[00:36:59] I still wasn't fully taking over like the bills at the farm, and like we had just moved here, and
[00:37:04] this building didn't exist, and like I don't know, just so much has happened in like three years,
[00:37:09] that I look back at five years ago, which was like a year into me and Jonathan's marriage, and
[00:37:14] we were living in a house in a neighborhood, and like I don't know, it's just kind of unfathomable
[00:37:21] to me what all happened in five years. Yeah. That I have plans, but I also know that it's just kind
[00:37:30] of unknown. Like, my plans set in place — we have bought land. So like we have land that is not
[00:37:42] Running Springs. Yeah. Now Running Springs will never go away. Running Springs will go wherever we
[00:37:47] go. But I do plan on building and trying to grow. So we... what? Oh, sorry. I'm sorry. I thought
[00:38:01] you were like... this is worth talking about. She will take like this small... if something's like
[00:38:08] a little hiccup or like whatever we're trying to make, so unnoticeable, she'll just shut production
[00:38:13] down, and be like... I only made quick eye contact to make sure he wasn't like being like,
[00:38:19] hey, this is happening. That's what I didn't... I didn't know if it was like, oh, I need to stop,
[00:38:24] but then I looked over and you were just like... it's just so funny. But anyway, so sorry. So
[00:38:29] we've bought land. Mhm. We are like right now just... I know we need to go out there, and I've
[00:38:36] only been out there like five times. Yeah. Like Jonathan's out there bush hogging today. And so
[00:38:41] our plans are to put cows on it first and then to build. And so my overall plan is I would love to
[00:38:50] have a facility that... because my brain always works kind of in the negative, where I'm like,
[00:38:57] if social media died and I lost everything, I have this functioning business. And so I really
[00:39:03] want to create a space that has plenty of barns, plenty of pasture to continue my breeding program,
[00:39:12] and then have one to three trainers on site. They'd be able to bring in their own clients,
[00:39:21] and then like on-site have, you know, like therapy — like whether that be like the water treadmill,
[00:39:28] and like the... oh, what was it called? Like, you know, the thing that we took Kennedy in, the bath,
[00:39:35] like the ice bath, the laser, shockwave, PEMF — and like have all these things available. So then,
[00:39:41] you know, these people who are paying for their horses to be in training, they can also have
[00:39:45] all this upkeep on site, but it's through me and through my business. And then I potentially — I'm
[00:39:53] not saying I would pull my horses from High Point necessarily — but potentially could have a stud
[00:39:58] or a couple studs on site, and then, you know, be doing a lot of things that I'm outsourcing
[00:40:06] for. Yeah. All in one space. And so that's my plan. That's more of like a 5-to-10-year plan,
[00:40:14] I guess. But I think a lot of things will be in motion within five years for that. And we would
[00:40:20] obviously be moving there, and it would just be like a whole... I would love the mini farm to be
[00:40:24] as equally as like the Yellowstone of mini farms, kind of. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And so I would love to
[00:40:32] have a mini trainer on site. Like, that's so far in the future, but I just think it'd be freaking
[00:40:38] cool. So that, and then that's just like ramping up how we do content and how we share things,
[00:40:44] but it's also like I said, creating this business within a business that can hopefully
[00:40:50] be self-sustainable. And do you have any thoughts of a pursuit outside of equine or social media,
[00:41:01] like writing? I want to sing. Sing. Okay. I want to sing. I want to have an EP at some
[00:41:07] point. I've done a little writing in the last like six months, and like I have written a song. Yeah.
[00:41:15] With some incredible writers that we just haven't done anything with yet, and I do really want to
[00:41:23] put some music out, more so for like a bucket list thing if anything, because I love to sing. I think
[00:41:30] I don't suck, and I think if anything, I have the ability to like fund myself doing this and
[00:41:37] not having to like become, you know, have someone be in control over my voice in order to have it
[00:41:45] happen. Just because I can go record a few things and do it on my dime. Yeah. And it's just to
[00:41:53] fulfill a dream rather than to make it a career, and that's fine. Yeah. Exactly. I don't think I
[00:41:58] ever want to be a singer that... and I mean that does tie into like if we did do a live thing,
[00:42:08] scratches that itch. I'm certainly going to push for it because I want to be in the band. What
[00:42:13] would you want to be like? Okay. What would you want to be? Literally a... a freaking guitar and a
[00:42:20] cajon. So I'd want a guitar or cajon and a fiddle. I can't do a fiddle. Then I would play guitar.
[00:42:28] If that's the only instrument you want. I don't really want a whole lot. My true passion would be
[00:42:37] give me the keys. Wait. Oh, keys and guitar action. I'm much better at piano. How do I
[00:42:46] not know this about you? That's like my first instrument. I have a piano. Where? Well, it's at
[00:42:52] my nana's house, but I was going to bring it over. I play piano. Well, we'll put it in the podcast
[00:42:56] room. Dueling pianos. I don't play that well. I was really, really into it, and like I think I
[00:43:04] naturally am pretty... I pick it up really easily and I can pick some stuff out by ear, but I had
[00:43:11] this really mean teacher that just really pushed me off of it. Yeah. I had a beautiful, amazing,
[00:43:18] like sweet teacher named Ella when I was starting out, and she graduated college and left because
[00:43:24] she was at Belmont, and then I was transitioned to another teacher. I couldn't tell you this lady's
[00:43:30] name, but... no good, huh? It was rough. She was really upset that piano wasn't my number
[00:43:43] one thing. Not your like passion passion. And I was like, I just want to learn to play piano. Like
[00:43:54] whiplash. I was taking like two lessons a week. Yeah. And she wanted... but I was also showing,
[00:44:01] and like that was obviously my thing. Yeah. And she was really upset about that. And so she was
[00:44:08] really ugly — and not ugly physically, like... right. She was ugly-hearted. Yeah, Nate has this
[00:44:14] video dialed up. Yeah, I have a little video to show you. I can play the... that's what's
[00:44:19] getting me. This could be us in six months. Let me see. Right before the podcast starts. Let's see.
[00:44:31] You can't really hear me.
[00:44:39] Is that... who's playing? Oh, it's my friend Jake. Okay. But he's playing piano. Yeah. It was like,
[00:44:48] he sold out some little club barn in Connecticut where he's from, and then he was like, come be
[00:44:53] in the band. So you were playing the piano. Yeah, I was on the whole show. Yeah. Oh, could be cool.
[00:45:02] Why? How did I not know that? Never asked. Because you've always just been a guitar guy all the time.
[00:45:07] Because nobody just brings out the piano. Yeah. Yeah, I guess. You need a keyboard. You have a
[00:45:12] keyboard, but we... yeah. Well, we need a shop keyboard. We need a keyboard, and then you can
[00:45:18] give me lessons. I'll find us one and chairs. Christy from High Point is texting me. Let me
[00:45:23] make a note. Chairs. Keyboard. Make a little note here. I feel like I always have to have a
[00:45:30] fiddle in a song that I write, though. Like I've written a few songs that were hunting related,
[00:45:35] and they were more like swampy, grindy. I don't know what that means, but that's how I describe
[00:45:43] my voice and the type of music I like to sing — like swampy. I don't know what that means. Yeah,
[00:45:49] it's how I describe it. Yeah, I think that's how you could describe it. And I like grindy,
[00:45:58] and I like... I don't like to do a fast tempo. Like, I don't like to... it's almost like foggy,
[00:46:02] too. Kind of yeah. And like foggy swamp. If I name it, Foggy Swamp. Foggy Swamp Boys.
[00:46:12] Katie Van Slyke liking the Foggy Swamp. Just makes me think of swamp ass.
[00:46:22] The Foggy Swamp. Oh, but yeah, I do want to do some music. If you have a good blues — if anybody
[00:46:29] wants to listen to it, they can. Like those classic... like those old like World War II movies
[00:46:32] or whatever, I don't know what they're called, but like those girls that like wear those dresses. Oh,
[00:46:37] what are they called? Oh, you know, like ragtime. Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Yeah,
[00:46:43] you'd be good at one of those, too. And so, like we had a plan — we have a plan to
[00:46:48] put music out. It just it's been a little bit stretched out timeline-wise. And so,
[00:46:52] we planned on having like a couple of originals and then a couple covers. Yeah. And so,
[00:46:57] the covers that we have kind of planned out are like "All Red" by Blake Shelton,
[00:47:01] and like some swampy songs, you know, like "Seminole Wind." Yeah. Oh, the older stuff. I'm
[00:47:11] not with the times. That's fine. That's fun. And you could get a taste of that at our live show.
[00:47:20] Oh my goodness. Okay. Coming to a city near you. So, I guess... what time are we at? I was going
[00:47:27] to say, what is... golly. The price of horses has gone up, huh? That's on a whole other one now. All
[00:47:34] right. Unless you really wanted to get that in. Okay, this is a good one. And we'll end with this
[00:47:41] one because it's not going to be a quick answer, I don't think. Okay. What have been your best
[00:47:48] and worst moments since we all started working together? Okay. Worst moments — easy. Having to
[00:47:57] reshoot this immediately after. That's happened twice. It's happened twice with the same person.
[00:48:06] That's hilarious that it was with the same person. First time was complete user error. The second
[00:48:12] time was user error, but it was also technical error that we didn't know any better about,
[00:48:19] but now we do know better about. So, in that aspect, it was user... what he's meaning is,
[00:48:23] both times that my best friend Dani was a guest, we shot the entire podcast, like an
[00:48:30] hour's worth. The first time we got 30 minutes in before I realized the record button wasn't hit.
[00:48:36] I remember like that and be like, "Hey guys, you're not..." it went
[00:48:41] on another three minutes of me just looking at that and looking at Nate going... I mean,
[00:48:46] there's nothing else. Like usually if I forget to hit... and this is like, don't tell Katie this,
[00:48:50] but if I forget to hit the record button on like a shot, I'll be like, give that to me again. Yeah,
[00:48:54] we can do a little bit better. Let's, we can probably do better on that. But you can't do
[00:48:59] that on this. It's like, how do you fudge that? That's when you have to, in your head you see it
[00:49:04] happen at 30 minutes, which usually would go for about an hour, and you have to sit there
[00:49:09] and think, okay, do I just pretend like it's normal and then like a day from now be like,
[00:49:16] I don't know what happened? I can't do that. I can't just like bold-face lie and be like,
[00:49:25] hey, like for me to be like, oh, that intro could have been better, forgot to hit record, 30-second
[00:49:29] intro, whatever. And I usually play it on like, hey, clearly I forgot to hit record. But to me,
[00:49:34] just to be like, we'll just say we don't have... I feel like if I'm worried about something at all,
[00:49:41] I'm very clearly displaying it. And I'll tell you why. Because whenever like the second time,
[00:49:48] whenever it was a technical issue, and whenever I come to you and say, "Hey, I don't know what
[00:49:53] happened," you 100% know that that's true, because I don't just say that all the time. I never want
[00:49:59] to cry wolf with stuff like this, because if I ever come to you and be like, "Hey, there's a
[00:50:04] situation, something has happened," you know that, hey, there's a situation. So, what happened on
[00:50:08] the second one? Because this was recent, and so we had to redo the whole thing. What? So,
[00:50:15] we were recording two external hard drives, and sometimes in the past one of the cameras would
[00:50:22] like flash a red exclamation point, and it's done it in the past, and we're like, "What is that?"
[00:50:29] But it's never... nothing has ever happened. Well, this time it flashed, and then we got to the end
[00:50:34] and went... it didn't save anything. In layman's terms, it just wasn't storing the information. It
[00:50:43] was just recording it. Which is just a faulty cable or faulty drive issue. I see. So I guess
[00:50:50] one of the cables was failing, which was causing that to pop up, and then it just finally failed.
[00:50:54] I see. Yeah. So that's only ever happened with the same person, which is hilarious. So we've
[00:51:02] had both of those times. And those episodes you watched were the second time that we talked about
[00:51:06] all that. That's just the worst. Because then you have to... it's 100% your fault, and like,
[00:51:12] you have to go down there after everybody, because I'm big on like feelings — I don't like knowing,
[00:51:19] like even if you have the best intent, hey, don't worry about it, I know that this is a
[00:51:23] huge inconvenience for you to do this. And so now I have to go all the way downstairs and be like,
[00:51:28] "Hey, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to do that. None of that was usable."
[00:51:34] So this last time that it happened, I remember we were in... I was showing her the mini babies. We
[00:51:40] had gotten done filming. We went outside. I was showing her like Ginny and Gidget,
[00:51:44] and we were sitting in the mini barn, and I just see Matt walk in, walk out, walk in, walk out.
[00:51:53] And I forgot what I said. And so you didn't say anything. And so I walked out. I was like,
[00:51:58] "Do you need something?" And he was like, "We've got to redo the whole podcast." And I was...
[00:52:06] rip the band-aid off. Oh, but we did it. Best time. There are none. No, there's a lot of
[00:52:16] best times. A lot. I really generally enjoy 50% of foaling season. Yeah. Which is just like the parts
[00:52:28] that I genuinely enjoy. Like, you know, I'm not going to sit here and be like, I'm so happy that
[00:52:33] this foal is happening in front of me. I'm more happy playing Dungeons and Dragons. Obviously,
[00:52:38] it's enjoyable. I'm glad that we're going to get to go to sleep after this. But you know,
[00:52:41] I love foaling season as a whole. I think that's super fun. Like the well, because it's cold. It's,
[00:52:47] no one's doing anything anyway. And then it's just nice. Like yeah, it's nice. Don't have plenty of
[00:52:56] free time anyway. I'm just kidding. The vibe of foaling season, especially like the front half.
[00:53:05] And I actually, to be honest, I feel like there was none of that. I don't even think there was
[00:53:10] like a front or back half. The back half this year was... because that's when just everything
[00:53:15] was dying. Yeah. Well, I meant fun, right? But what I'm saying is like, the front half is like,
[00:53:21] "Oh, all these babies being born. They're all great." And then the last half was like freaking
[00:53:25] stressful, because it was just like dead baby. Yeah. Baby came out after really hard... whatever.
[00:53:31] Oh, dead baby. This one, mommy's trying to die. Baby alive. Like, literally everything was crazy.
[00:53:38] The second half was more stressful. And then we like... the last baby was just like, "Oh,
[00:53:42] I'm going to just be born out of nowhere and no one's going to film it." So, the last half was
[00:53:47] stressful, and I don't feel like quite as at ease. Yeah. Horses aside, I think front to back it was
[00:53:54] certainly a more... I feel like the other foaling seasons we have like something that's really cool
[00:53:59] that like gets us through the first few weeks, and then like we're surviving the last. I don't feel
[00:54:04] like that happened this time. We were like pretty much just... well, we have a better setup with
[00:54:09] the shop now. We had kind of like an ongoing game that we were playing that made us excited. Yeah,
[00:54:17] I think that's crucial. We did lives. We enjoyed doing... we always eat good food. That's the
[00:54:21] thing. Like, I try to... I know that we need to cook more next time. We do need to cook more. But
[00:54:25] like I do know that, you know, it's no one wants to be away from their wives and babies. No one
[00:54:30] wants to be sleeping outside of their barn. Like no one wants to not be in their bed at night. So
[00:54:34] like when we do have okay, hey guys, this is an overnight night, and especially when it stretches
[00:54:39] on, we try to have some steaks and some good dinners. But it could be worse. At least we're
[00:54:45] not like, you know, linemen. Like, laying pipe in Oregon or something. Like, if I'm going to
[00:54:59] commit three months somewhere, like a lot of people go out or whatever for three months,
[00:55:01] if I'm going to commit three months somewhere, it's pretty cool to be able to... well, you can,
[00:55:02] it's something you can jet home during the day, you know. It's like a lot of the times they might
[00:55:06] not sleep at home, but they jet home. At least you're with your friends and having good times and
[00:55:11] good memories and all that stuff. It's never a bad time. Yeah. It could be. The one specific night
[00:55:17] of D&D where I stole the dog was my favorite. Yeah, that was... as far as like a... do you
[00:55:24] have like a singular, like this is clearly my top moment? I think so. Oh,
[00:55:33] I think it was my birthday cake. Really? Yeah. I think it's still that one, when... because we
[00:55:41] really didn't know each other, and we've never gotten that since either. It was just the one.
[00:55:44] Yeah, it was just the one. I haven't seen you on your birthday since then, I don't think. Yeah,
[00:55:49] which I'm a big like... I like receiving gifts. So, I think... and it was a big day for you. Mhm.
[00:56:00] You know, it was the same day you bought VS Code Red, which was also my birthday, and I was like,
[00:56:04] "Oh, you got me a cake on your big day." I think that was the most special I felt,
[00:56:10] which is probably my high point, even if it's not like the coolest thing. Three years ago.
[00:56:17] There hasn't been a high point in... I've never experienced anything close to resembling that.
[00:56:23] We've certainly done a lot of cool stuff. You haven't said your worst moment. Well, Friday. No,
[00:56:35] that cannot be. No, that's not it. It has to be like... I mean, other than that, I guess that
[00:56:41] would just be like certainly any sort of editing. There's been plenty. Yeah, there's been...
[00:56:51] See, I'm just... I think it's funny that y'all don't really consider like... Matt was walking
[00:56:59] up like I cannot believe you didn't say Cool. You walked up, because we thought Cool was having her
[00:57:05] baby. And then we all walk in and my dad's like, "She's dead." And I just start like screaming,
[00:57:12] and like, you have to... you literally helped Jonathan get her into the bucket of the tractor.
[00:57:18] You probably blocked that out. No, it was just like... I guess we can talk about this now. My
[00:57:25] first and foremost thought in that moment was, so am I not filming, or am I filming?
[00:57:32] My first thought when... now we know, like, we don't — if it's like, like with Happy this year,
[00:57:39] when we're in emergency mode and we're just trying to like save this animal — because here's the
[00:57:45] thing, them filming has nothing to do with like what I'm doing. Them filming doesn't stop me from
[00:57:50] doing what I need to do in a timely fashion. But like, I also... that's not... the YouTube channel
[00:57:55] is not about like exploiting tragedies. It's just not. Yeah. And so, you know, there's a lot
[00:58:01] of things that we could have done for views in the past. We could have used Seven for views. We could
[00:58:04] have used whatever. Like, there's so many things that we could have done, and that's just not
[00:58:08] what this channel's about. And so now it's very distinct like, oh, when stuff's hitting the fan,
[00:58:15] no. But even sometimes I'm like, should we be filming this in case somebody is like,
[00:58:23] "What happened?" Right? And it's like I never want to make the executive decision. I don't want to be
[00:58:29] weird and be like filming, but if somebody's like, "Well, what time did this happen?" You're like, "I
[00:58:35] see it happened at 10:23." Or if like miles later or whatever, it's like, you know... I never want
[00:58:44] it to be my choice. Like, "Well, I see." Yeah. So, like, or if the vet's like, "You know what? I can
[00:58:50] tell you exactly what happened. I'm looking at it." Right. Right. Right. Right. Like for recall
[00:58:55] on things, because, you know, stressful situations you start... your mind gets going, maybe you don't
[00:58:59] have perfect recall on things. And I'm like, this is awkward if I film. Is it helpful or not? Not
[00:59:07] from the standpoint of we're going to use this or anything. Right. Yeah. Because like this last year
[00:59:14] I just remember, we all... because we thought, oh, Happy's having her baby, it's going to be great,
[00:59:19] and then immediately see it's wrong. Immediately see that it's just the face being presented and no
[00:59:24] feet. And so then it goes into emergency mode of sedating her, trying to push baby back in,
[00:59:30] trying to grab legs, realizing we're in over our heads, putting her on a trailer. And I just
[00:59:36] remember seeing y'all all just standing there in the barn, and I'm like, "Go to bed." Like,
[00:59:41] yeah, you know, but it's just interesting to me because I feel like my brain goes there,
[00:59:48] but y'all go towards... I mean, I'll tell you the worst moment in my freaking entire career was this
[00:59:55] dang mic situation. That has to be... I mean, the worst. That would be the worst. The last two
[01:00:01] editings. The worst. So for the horse show, the Kentucky horse show, there are some times where
[01:00:06] you might notice the sound is just like a little off or like a little echoey or little whatever.
[01:00:10] First of all, it was horrible because there was music the entire time. That's not normal at shows.
[01:00:17] Normally, it's like only when you're in the show pen or like whatever, but there was music playing
[01:00:21] the entire time. And so for copyright situations and like to be able to monetize a video, you have
[01:00:26] to take all the sound out of the background, but then take it away. The main thing was is like,
[01:00:32] we had these new mics. We've been trying to work out the mic situation for like a year, and
[01:00:37] like just what works best. And we didn't know any better. Again, it comes down to personal... like,
[01:00:43] you know, we could have set it up better for sure, but we had just got them and just started testing
[01:00:49] them out. We should have done that with like an afternoon vlog, as opposed to a seven-day horse
[01:00:56] show. We get back and there's like four different mics that have been given to six different people
[01:01:02] at different times of the day, and none of it was named and none of it was even in linear order. So
[01:01:10] like day four may have been before day two, but only Rachel's day four, because Nate's day four
[01:01:18] is where it's supposed to be. And so like there was a lot... most of the days were just figuring
[01:01:24] out whose mic goes to what, and then it was just like the end result ended up being putting every
[01:01:29] single audio track on this huge timeline, and I would just listen to it and then just say,
[01:01:34] well, that's not it. I would just listen to it, and I listened to the entire horse show
[01:01:39] in 30-minute blocks for about 48 hours. I was like, well, that's not Katie, that's not Katie.
[01:01:45] Yeah, it was... after, now, lesson learned was incredible. Now we have... so I knew that there
[01:01:54] was an audio issue. I was just told, hey, there's an audio issue with the... there was probably
[01:02:02] three nights in a row where you and me were still talking at like 4 or 5 in the morning. Like three
[01:02:09] nights in a row, we were just trying to figure it out. Even in this last one, it's like I thought
[01:02:13] I was going to have to look for Nate's mic, and then I have to look through the video. Oh yeah,
[01:02:18] he's just not wearing a mic, and then Rachel will take her mic off and give it to somebody else. Oh
[01:02:22] my gosh. Like, you have to listen to the whole... yeah. Because we were like trying to give them to
[01:02:25] Aaron, trying to let me give you this mic. Yeah, we all... I pushed a button on the mic when I was
[01:02:30] handing it off and I was not even recording. So it's like, and like stuff like that would
[01:02:35] happen. It's like... now it's 10 times better. You know, lessons learned. Because we usually had
[01:02:41] these packs that are like little... they're actual packs and they have a wire, and so that's what we
[01:02:48] were using. But it was becoming really difficult at horse shows because of my horse show clothes,
[01:02:51] and because we were trying to just like put it on, take it off, put it on, take it off. And
[01:02:55] so we were like, okay, we'll go to clip-on mics. And then I think for the aspect of the horse show,
[01:03:00] the clip-on mics were great. They are great for you. But yeah, even now like... they are
[01:03:05] great. They work great for horse shows. We have a completely fantastic system laid out that it's
[01:03:12] never going to be a problem ever again. It should never be a problem. So the lessons learned from
[01:03:19] that were certainly greater than the trials and tribulations that resulted from that. But then I
[01:03:25] feel like we're really hard on ourselves. And I feel like, you know, we go on these because, you
[01:03:31] know, these horse shows are they're big in a lot of different ways. Because it's like cost-wise and
[01:03:40] just like effort in scheduling them and getting there and all this stuff. But if we look back at
[01:03:49] three-years-ago videos versus what we're trying to achieve now, they're very different. Very much
[01:03:56] bigger. They're only going to get better. They are very different. And so I feel like yes, things go
[01:04:02] wrong or, you know, we have things we can improve upon, but you know, yeah. And I think that will
[01:04:10] always be the case. Yeah. We'll always have stuff to improve. Okay. Always trying new stuff. We
[01:04:15] should try to turn our frowns upside down. Well, we should try, and it would be a short film, but
[01:04:24] we should try to turn... okay, a horse show into a movie. Okay. Okay. So, instead of it being like a
[01:04:30] vlog, we should turn it into like a... like maybe yes, I'm showing, and there's real life going on
[01:04:39] outside of it, but we come up with like a script and a storyline that's happening at the horse
[01:04:45] show, and we just film it while we're there. Yeah, I like this. Let's make a horse show movie. Like,
[01:04:51] I'm not Katie in the movie. I'm somebody else. I'm liking it more. You know what I'm saying?
[01:04:56] I'm liking it more. Get old Bean involved. She would hate it. Hate it. But that's our new... we
[01:05:04] could make her like a villain. She would like... I think she'd like being a villain. Yeah, she would.
[01:05:10] She would. Her little emo soul. Like, she would... let's write it. I know. She's great. Is she coming
[01:05:14] to...? She is my trainer, so yes. She'll be there. Vibes are... is Rachel gonna be there? Yes. Vibes
[01:05:22] are up. We'll be there. Vibes are up. Anyway, this video has gone too long. It's gone too long,
[01:05:31] and I have no clue how y'all are going to make this edited to look nice, but I have faith. Just
[01:05:39] for a future note, the animal communicator. Oh, yeah. Is that happening? Is that happening? Okay.
[01:05:47] So, I heard in Kentucky that Aaron has used an animal communicator before. He was like,
[01:05:54] "There's some quacks out there, there's some that are like absolutely not real, but then there's
[01:05:58] others." He's like, "I'm convinced." Because he had a couple horses that he was having issues
[01:06:05] with and he could not figure them out. And so the owner suggested an animal communicator, and
[01:06:09] there was this lady that had like this super huge wait list, and they're like, "It's an emergency."
[01:06:13] So she fit them in. And the things she told him about this horse. And there's another one too,
[01:06:20] that the only reason they figured out how to help this horse was because of an animal communicator.
[01:06:25] And so like with this one specific horse, it told the communicator, "I have three riders," which it
[01:06:31] did. It had Aaron, the mom, and the daughter. And then it was like, "The guy kind of makes me feel
[01:06:38] a little unconfident sometimes. I feel like he's a little bit like he makes me nervous, but then I'm
[01:06:43] my most confident with the little one, but she... you can tell her that she can use her new spurs,
[01:06:50] but they're just a little sharp, so be careful." She had just gotten new spurs for her birthday,
[01:06:56] like right before. Like, how does this lady do that? You know, I feel like it's a job that I
[01:07:02] would excel in. I would excel in it. And so, I have multiple horses that I would... I want to
[01:07:08] be like, "What's your problem?" Yeah. What? Like Trudy, I want to be like, "What's your problem?"
[01:07:14] Why? Because that was the whole thing, like when I bought her, they were like, "We've done all this
[01:07:17] vet stuff. We don't know why she's unrideable. We don't know why she's whatever." Like,
[01:07:21] she's gone and won all this stuff, and now we think it's a pain response, but like she can't
[01:07:25] be ridden. I want to be like, "You faking? What's your beef? What's going on?" I certainly wouldn't
[01:07:32] discredit that being a thing. I think that there are quacks, and I think that there are probably
[01:07:36] some real ones, but I would expect a little bit of a performance, but also I do want to
[01:07:44] be razzle-dazzled. This other horse... and I don't think this was like a little something.
[01:07:50] They do it over the phone. What? They do it over the phone. How do they know over the phone? Dude,
[01:07:57] I would have wanted to come in, put her head next to her, whatever, and like give me something. Give
[01:08:01] me a little something. We're a wizard. Oh my gosh. Yeah. Like, what? Give me something. Total side
[01:08:08] note and I'll let you go back to this. I went to a concert last night. My friend was playing,
[01:08:12] and it was downtown. It was on the sky deck thing, and I look over into this apartment,
[01:08:20] top floor. They've got like crazy lights on, crazy colored lights. And there's a person standing
[01:08:25] there like this. I mean full wizard garb, like the black robe, the tall black hat, just like pacing
[01:08:34] around his apartment for like 15 minutes. Took it off... totally jacked, by the way. Just took it
[01:08:40] off and then went to bed. I'm like, he just walked around his house in a full wizard's robe for like
[01:08:46] 15 minutes. Go out. He's like, "That's it. I'm not going." That's it. I'm not going. That reminded
[01:08:52] me. Anyway, keep going. Go. That was awesome. So, there was another horse that was not Aaron's that
[01:08:57] he told me about. He said, "This one really made me think it was real, too, because there was this
[01:09:02] friend of his that had this horse in training that was wickedly talented, but could not figure out
[01:09:08] how to get it sound." Like, it was just in pain somehow. They had the vet do all these workups,
[01:09:13] could not figure out why it was hurting. And they finally were so desperate, they're like,
[01:09:19] "Let's have this animal communicator talk to it and see what it says." And it was like, "Yeah,
[01:09:23] my butt hurts. There's a spot right underneath my butt that I don't know, like somewhere on
[01:09:28] like the back glute area that hurts really bad, and I can't do anything because of it." They went
[01:09:33] and ultrasounded a really obscure spot that would not have ever come to anyone's brains, and he had
[01:09:39] a torn muscle. Oh, wow. And once they did rehab for that specific thing, the horse came back as an
[01:09:49] all-star. Yeah. Wow. Are they putting the horses on the phone? I don't know. Like, here, give me,
[01:09:56] talk to them. I don't know. Like, I've got to know a little bit more. You need to do this so
[01:10:01] we can figure this out. I don't know. I need to know this lady's number. I don't know what I...
[01:10:06] I want to talk to this specific lady because I know that she's a speaker. Yeah. You know,
[01:10:11] he did say there were a couple things that didn't pan out. Yeah. Like for instance, she told him...
[01:10:17] so like the horse that had the three riders, that horse told him, "Hey, it's fine if you want to
[01:10:22] like train hard on me and like get onto me, like I know I'm being bad sometimes. Don't do it the day
[01:10:27] of the show, though. Do it the day before, because you ruined my confidence day of." Yeah. And so,
[01:10:31] they tried that, and then he was terrible. So, they were like, "Okay, well, maybe the horse is
[01:10:37] just trying to sneak something in." Yeah. Like, hey, they can say anything. That doesn't mean
[01:10:41] you have to believe them. I mean, they can say whatever. Now you have to figure out if it's a
[01:10:45] lie or, you know, the truth. Saying extra treats right before. Yeah, I don't... that's what I'm
[01:10:52] getting. I'm not sure. And then you have to put them on the light of this. It's a whole thing. So,

[01:11:06] obsessed with that idea. I hated to find out it was $400. It's so expensive to have someone come

[01:11:22] like to see anything specific in future Katching Up With Katie episodes. I do feel like some of
[01:11:27] the things we started talking about, like the back end of content creation, is an interesting topic,
