Speaker A

Welcome to the Elevated Edit, the weekly reset for ambitious women who are done with chaos and ready to actually follow through.

Speaker A

I'm your host, Blakely Ramsey, strategist, systems girl and execution coach for entrepreneurs who want structure that sells in a business that feels like peace.

Speaker A

Here, we don't chase hustle.

Speaker A

We edit what matters.

Speaker A

Let's get into it.

Speaker A

Have you ever had one of those days where your brain is just mush?

Speaker A

Maybe you are tired or you're just in a rough part of your menstrual cycle and it seems like your to do list is mocking you, your calendar is literally laughing in your face, and you were like this close to just crawling back into bed.

Speaker A

Or maybe you don't want to get out of bed at all.

Speaker A

If so, same.

Speaker A

I can totally relate to that.

Speaker A

And so today I'm going to give you one mindset shift and one tactical move that is going to help you reclaim your time even when, and I would say especially when you are just completely running on fumes.

Speaker A

Now.

Speaker A

I used to be the extreme.

Speaker A

I would be tired and genuinely need to rest and genuinely need to take a day off, and I would just push through it.

Speaker A

I would pile even more onto my plate.

Speaker A

I would power through.

Speaker A

I would try to get all the things done.

Speaker A

And the quality of my work, the quality of my health, the quality of my relationships really suffered.

Speaker A

And so in 2020, I spent a lot of time working on myself.

Speaker A

I did a lot of therapy, I did a lot of energy work.

Speaker A

I did a lot of reading, a lot of journaling, a lot of meditation, a lot of prayer, a lot of alone time.

Speaker A

I just kind of let myself sit in some emotions that I had never let myself really experience before.

Speaker A

And in that season, when I was tired, I did nothing.

Speaker A

I would just lay in the recliner and one lazy day would lead to two lazy days would lead to three lazy days.

Speaker A

And I convinced myself that, well, this is just what I need to do because I'm tired.

Speaker A

And now in this season, with all of the coaching that I've gotten, the rooms that I've gotten in, the mindset shifts that I've had from the books I've read and the conversations in the podcast, I am finding a small sweet spot in the middle because I am now realizing in the mindset shift that I've had is that tired doesn't have to mean unqualified.

Speaker A

It doesn't mean that you just have to just give up everything for the whole entire day.

Speaker A

And in fact, one of the things that I have realized is that Some of my best decisions are made when I am forced to simplify.

Speaker A

When I wake up and my tank is on empty and I'm at absolute zero, I am forced to really prioritize, and even more so than usual.

Speaker A

And I have learned to lean into that, you know, waking up and either being sick or, you know, it's the wrong time of the month or I didn't get a lot of sleep the night before or, you know, whatever the case is.

Speaker A

I'm noticing, too, I do have a lot of days where I am heavy on communication and conversations.

Speaker A

I am on calls a lot.

Speaker A

I am in person a lot, and typically the next day, I am drained.

Speaker A

I am an introverted extrovert, and so I can be super extroverted and super high energy and super high impact, but then I have to have some time to come back down, and I am leaning into that in the season.

Speaker A

I'm really on the days when I am at zero, and I am just like Blakely, I don't know if you can do anything today.

Speaker A

I force myself to simplify, and I really look at my list and go, okay, what absolutely has to get done and how can I do this in the most efficient way possible and not in, like, a hustle and burnout kind of way.

Speaker A

But I do think that pressure is privilege, and I do think that there are a lot of things in my life and you can probably relate to this, that maybe you've prayed for and you've worked for, and it's like, finally there in your grasp, and that pressure to still perform even when you're tired is a privilege.

Speaker A

And that is kind of the sweet spot that I have really had to work on this year, because at this point in my life, with the amount of responsibility that I have, which, once again, I'm so thankful for, I really don't have the option to just, oh, well, I'm just going to sleep in and take the day off.

Speaker A

I would love that.

Speaker A

But I have thankfully built up my life to the point where I do have responsibilities that I have to handle every single day.

Speaker A

And so forcing myself to simplify and look at my list and acknowledge that, okay, I can't get everything done today.

Speaker A

I have very limited capacity.

Speaker A

I maybe have an hour, maybe two, of high quality output today.

Speaker A

What can I focus on and what can I actually do?

Speaker A

And so this is the tactical move.

Speaker A

You can use the rule of one.

Speaker A

So pick one priority, one win, or one way to restore your energy.

Speaker A

So I typically try to go for a walk first.

Speaker A

A walk will Usually energize me.

Speaker A

Now, if I go for a walk and I'm still at low energy, I'm like, oh, we've got to about maybe an hour's worth of work to get done.

Speaker A

And then I try to pick one priority or one win so one thing that I can get done.

Speaker A

And when I get that thing done, I call it a win.

Speaker A

I was actually talking to a friend this morning, and it kind of gave me the idea for this podcast episode where I think so often, especially if we are aspiring entrepreneurs or, you know, entrepreneurs who are just starting out or I've seen this happen to a lot of people.

Speaker A

We're in entrepreneurs, like in a later season of our business is you just constantly feel like you need to perform all of the time.

Speaker A

And some days picking one priority and saying, when I get this thing done, it is all that I'm going to be able to get done today.

Speaker A

And I might have to delegate the rest or defer the rest or just not do the rest.

Speaker A

And being okay with that is such an empowering and wonderful place to be.

Speaker A

And it takes off this pressure to optimize.

Speaker A

You know, I used to to tell myself, okay, well, if I've got 16 things on my action list, I have to get them done today.

Speaker A

And resetting to baseline and saying, okay, these are things that I would love to get done today, but what actually needs to get done is so amazing and this works so well, especially for overachievers, is because overachievers, high achievers, we often spiral when we try to do those 16, 17 things that are on our to do list on low power, and we try to fight through.

Speaker A

And what I have found, at least for myself and you might relate to this, is when I am trying to force or push through and just get it done.

Speaker A

My quality of work is so low, you can tell.

Speaker A

The people around me can tell, my clients can tell.

Speaker A

My interactions just aren't as great.

Speaker A

My work is not as great.

Speaker A

Those are the days when I'm like, man, I wish I would have just waited until the next day or until the next week when I had, when I was in my good energy, like high five energy.

Speaker A

And I wish I would have just let my body reset and relax a little bit.

Speaker A

And this is so impactful to your nervous system.

Speaker A

I know I talk a lot about nervous systems on this podcast, but the more I research it and the more I learn, I'm learning that a regulated nervous system truly is so important to your business and this is how you can reroute Your nervous system from panic to presence, and what I've actually found, and this is you high achievers are going to love.

Speaker A

This is when I just take a step back and give myself that one priority and get that done.

Speaker A

I usually get a little energy back.

Speaker A

I get a little spark.

Speaker A

I'm like, okay, I had one win.

Speaker A

Maybe I can have one more win, or maybe I can have one more priority.

Speaker A

And I often find that when I eliminate a lot of things on my list and I just focus on one thing and I tell myself, if you can get this done, that is a win, I find a little resurgence of energy, My confidence goes back up a little bit, my self esteem goes back up a little bit.

Speaker A

And then when I hit a wall, I am okay with stepping away and saying, you know what?

Speaker A

I did what I promised myself I was going to do.

Speaker A

It wasn't everything that I wanted to do, but it was truly the best that I could do for today because we all experience that.

Speaker A

And I think there is a lot of guilt, especially from women, especially during the summer when you've got kids at home and your schedule is a little off and you still got all these things that you want to get done.

Speaker A

I think there is so much pressure to perform the same when y' all are truly trying to keep human beings alive.

Speaker A

I think, and I've said this before on the podcast, that moms do not give themselves enough credit.

Speaker A

You know, I hear my.

Speaker A

My friends say, and this still guts me to the say, oh, I'm just a mom.

Speaker A

I'm like, you literally are a cook and a housekeeper and a nurse and all the things.

Speaker A

And there are so many little micro requests that mothers are getting during the day that someone like me, I'm not getting.

Speaker A

You know, I can.

Speaker A

I can tell myself, okay, you get these three things done and you go home and you lay on the couch with your cats.

Speaker A

And if you are a mom, like, I want you to give yourself a huge load of grace right now.

Speaker A

Because even if you do nothing else except for keep your kids alive for the day, that is a massive accomplishment.

Speaker A

Like, truly it is.

Speaker A

And so if you're in that season, I think summer really, a lot of entrepreneurs get that mom guilt.

Speaker A

And I think sometimes the mom guilt is, oh, well, I'm doing too much and I'm not giving my kids the attention.

Speaker A

But then for a lot of entrepreneurs, it's, oh, well, I want to be here and I want to be present with my kids.

Speaker A

And then I have that guilt of I'm not building my business the way that I want to or the way that I can during the school year when they have a, you know, regular sitter, whatever that is.

Speaker A

Just be comfortable with the season that you're in.

Speaker A

We all have seasons.

Speaker A

We all have ebbs and flows in energy and schedules and time.

Speaker A

And so just give yourself a huge amount of grace and just let this be your permission slip that you don't have to crush it today.

Speaker A

You don't have to crush it every single day.

Speaker A

Just keep the flame lit.

Speaker A

Do one little thing, keep one little promise, have one micro in.

Speaker A

And then tomorrow get back to it.

Speaker A

Today you can just protect the pilot light.

Speaker A

And then tomorrow you can light the flame.

Speaker A

Okay?

Speaker A

So we're all just gonna give ourselves a little grace and give ourselves some more credit, especially as women.

Speaker A

We've got so much on our shoulders, and you moms, I cannot say that enough.

Speaker A

Okay?

Speaker A
