Speaker AAlso dig into life, pop culture, and the chaos that is our everyday.
Speaker AI'm Jay Schwedelson.
Speaker ALet's do this, not that.
Speaker AWe are back.
Speaker ADo this, not that.
Speaker AAnd today we're going to do that thing, that thing.
Speaker AWhen you're in a meeting saying, hey, we don't have more marketing budget, how do we get more users to our site?
Speaker AHow do we get more downloads, more subscribers, more buyers?
Speaker ADoesn't matter if you're a business or, or consumer marketer.
Speaker AThere's gotta be things that we can be doing that we're not doing, that we need to test.
Speaker AAnd you know what, There are things.
Speaker AAnd these three things I think most marketers are sleeping on.
Speaker ASo let's jump right into it.
Speaker AThe first one is this idea of web push notifications.
Speaker AYou're like, what's that?
Speaker AWhat's a web push notification?
Speaker AWhen you go to a website, let's say you go to the website, I'm making this website up, accountingsoftware.com.
Speaker Awhen you go to that website, a little thingamabob pops up in the corner of the website, says, hey, allow notifications.
Speaker AIt'll say allow or block or something like that.
Speaker AAnd you may not even remember it in your brain that you're doing it.
Speaker ASometimes you say allow and sometimes you say block.
Speaker AWhen you say allow, you are now becoming part of that website's database that allows that website.
Speaker AIt is an opt in.
Speaker AIt allows that website now to push out notifications to you.
Speaker AAnd when that website, whenever they want, they could push out a notification to you, it's not when you're on their website, okay?
Speaker AIt's at any time.
Speaker AIt could show up on your desktop, it could show up on your mobile device.
Speaker AAnd these push notifications do incredibly, incredibly well.
Speaker AFirst of all, according to Push Alert, the opt in rate people saying allow, right?
Speaker ASaying yes, I want those notifications is well over 15% for website visitors.
Speaker AIt costs you nothing right now.
Speaker AThe other amazing stat from Neil Patel's agency is when you actually push these notifications out, the click through rate on those notifications is over 10% on average.
Speaker AYou can be notifying people of anything.
Speaker AYou can notify them of a new sale, right?
Speaker AYou can notify them, oh, a webinar registration is about to end.
Speaker AThink of a push notification database the same way you do your email database.
Speaker AYou're constantly trying to grow it.
Speaker AAnd if you're constantly trying to grow your push notification database, whenever you want, you could push out one of these notifications.
Speaker AAnd this is what we've become accustomed to, is getting these notifications, seeing them on our phone, on our desktop, whatever, and is purely opt in.
Speaker AThis is how you get people to come back to your site, right?
Speaker AWhenever you want them to come back to.
Speaker AYou could do it at a local time zone level, right?
Speaker AYou could schedule these far in advance.
Speaker ANow, how do you do them?
Speaker AHow do you actually do them?
Speaker AFirst off, most of our CRMs and marketing automation platforms that we already use, all the big ones have push notification services available within them at no additional cost to you.
Speaker AYou just need to go back to your providers and say, hey, can we do this push notification thing, this web push notification thing?
Speaker AIf they can, for some reason, there's lots of services out there.
Speaker ASubscribers.com is a free tool that you can use.
Speaker AI'm not getting paid by any of these people.
Speaker AI'm just telling you what's out there.
Speaker ASubscribers.com is a free tool for this exact service.
Speaker AGoogle has something called Firebase, which is also a free tool.
Speaker AAnd then there are paid tools like Push Owl or Airship.
Speaker ABut if you're not doing push notifications or you're not growing your website push notification database, whether you're a business marketer or consumer marketer, I think you're missing out.
Speaker ASo go ahead, Google, push notifications.
Speaker AGo a little deep down that rabbit hole because I think it takes time to build it up.
Speaker ABut over time, it's just like your email database.
Speaker AYou're going to have this asset.
Speaker AThat's super awesome.
Speaker AAll right.
Speaker AThe second one is what I call top expert hosts.
Speaker AIt is so valuable, doesn't matter what industry or sector or thing that your business is doing, to be connected with some of the leaders in your space.
Speaker AAnd the easiest, best way to get connected with these leaders in your space, and it's super awesome, is you reach out.
Speaker AYou could do this via LinkedIn, you could reach out via email.
Speaker AYou reach out to these leaders in your space.
Speaker AHey, my company is doing an exciting new content piece.
Speaker AIt's called Expert Tips.
Speaker ATen leading experts share their view on blah blah, blah, right?
Speaker A10 leading experts share their blue view on the new HR laws or the impact AI will have or whatever.
Speaker ANow you reach out to 30 leading experts in whatever sector that you're in.
Speaker AAnd I promise you, because Everybody has an ego, 10 of them are going to go back to you and say, oh, yeah, here's the three sentences.
Speaker AAnd that's all you have to ask them for.
Speaker AFor that content piece.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker ANow you include them.
Speaker AYou put the content piece out there and now you are connected with these leaders in the space.
Speaker AYou could do this if you're an individual.
Speaker ASo you're coming out the content piece.
Speaker AYou could do this if your company wants to put it as part of their resource page.
Speaker AAnd now you're connected with them.
Speaker AYou could talk to them about doing collaborations.
Speaker AYou could talk to them about being on a podcast and a webinar, whatever.
Speaker AIt is a great, easy, free way to get connected with the top experts in your field.
Speaker AAnd everybody loves participating in those because they then can list on their thing, oh, I was named a top expert.
Speaker AEasy.
Speaker AThe last one is doing quizzes.
Speaker AQuizzes that your salespeople can get benefit from on the business side and quizzes on the consumer side to just build up engagement, right?
Speaker AIf you make a quiz, it's probably the single best way to get engagement and get people to give you their contact information.
Speaker AWhat do I mean by that?
Speaker ARight?
Speaker ASo let's say you want to make quiz.
Speaker AWhat if I made a quiz that I sent out via email and was on my website and it was called are you a marketing all star?
Speaker AYou have to take this quiz and we'll tell you how if you're a marketing all star or not.
Speaker AIf you got that email from me, right?
Speaker AA free quiz, Would you take that quiz?
Speaker AI bet you would.
Speaker AAnd then what you do is you layer in questions that your salespeople want to have available so they can reach out to these people.
Speaker ASo, for example, let's say I was trying to sell CRM software.
Speaker AThat's what my company did.
Speaker AAnd I came out with a quiz that said, are you a marketing all star?
Speaker AAnd then I ask questions like this in my quiz that you have to answer, how do you track your marketing campaign performance?
Speaker AAnd here are the options.
Speaker ASpreadsheets.
Speaker AI'm old school, but it works.
Speaker AAnalytics software.
Speaker AI dive deep into the data.
Speaker AGut feeling, I trust my instincts.
Speaker AOr CRM software.
Speaker AAnd then another question could be, what's your biggest marketing challenge?
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AAnd then you ask things about is it generating leads, Is it measurement, is it conversions?
Speaker AWhat is it?
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AAnd then the person, in order to, they go to the next page, they get the results, they put their email address in.
Speaker ANow you have their information, but you don't just have their information, right?
Speaker AYou have not just their contact information, you have information about their pain points.
Speaker ASo now when they start to get your drip from all your different marketing communications, your salespeople can reach out having a really good understanding of what their pain points are, and then could talk about how to solve for them.
Speaker AAnd then on the consumer side, interactive quizzes are everything.
Speaker AIt is the best way to get shareable content.
Speaker APeople love it.
Speaker AIt's fun, right?
Speaker AIf you're not leveraging quizzes to grow your database, you're missing out on probably the most engaging type of content that exists on the planet.
Speaker AAll right, before we get to.
Speaker ASince you didn't ask, which is the ridiculous portion of this podcast, I need to tell you something.
Speaker AThis podcast rocks.
Speaker AYou know why we have the best sponsor on the planet, and that is Marigold.
Speaker AMarigold is my email sending platform, my agency.
Speaker AWe send out billions of emails.
Speaker AI've been using Marigold for years.
Speaker AIt's phenomenal.
Speaker ANow they have a free piece of content, a new piece of content which is called the seven tips to reduce Spam complaints.
Speaker ACome on, that's a big deal.
Speaker ASpam complaints could really mess up your email program.
Speaker AIf you want this free piece of content, all you have to do is go to jschwettleson.com/marigold.
Speaker AThat's my full name.
Speaker AJschweddelson.com marigold and you can get the seven tips to reduce spam complaints.
Speaker AAnd one of the things they have in there is how to determine which of your contact lists you should sunset that you should kind of archive and not use super valuable information.
Speaker ASo check that out.
Speaker AJ. Schwanelson.com Marigold and if you want to check out their platform, just check out meet marigold.com they are awesome.
Speaker AAll right, let's get into since you didn't ask.
Speaker ASo I saw that Coachella is going on and honestly, I really don't even know what Coachella is.
Speaker AI know it's some, like, music festival of some kind.
Speaker AAnd the artists that sing there, I would say 75% of them, I have no idea who they are.
Speaker AAnd I also know that it's the time when celebrities dress up in a very cringy way and they look ridiculous and they try to look cool and.
Speaker AAnd it's just really, really not something I ever want to go to.
Speaker ANow maybe you want to go to Coachella.
Speaker AThat's good for you.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker ABut it got me thinking about the different concerts that I've gone to.
Speaker ANow.
Speaker AI have horrible taste in tv.
Speaker ABut I also, here's something Exciting.
Speaker ANo, I have equally horrible taste in music.
Speaker AYes, I do.
Speaker AI mean, you name the cheesiest music.
Speaker AThat is my jam.
Speaker AThat's what I listen to in my car.
Speaker AIt is horrendous.
Speaker ASo when I was thinking about the concerts that I went to, here's.
Speaker AHere's my roster.
Speaker AIt's so bad.
Speaker AThe first concert I ever went to.
Speaker AThis is unbelievable.
Speaker AWould you believe the first concert I ever went to was Millie Vanilli?
Speaker AThis is true.
Speaker AAnd for those of you who don't know Milli Vanilli, they were the.
Speaker AThey got busted for lip syncing everything.
Speaker AThey didn't sing any of their own songs.
Speaker ASo I went to a concert of people that actually didn't even even sing their own songs.
Speaker AIt was awesome, though.
Speaker AI had a good time.
Speaker ASome other ones I went to.
Speaker ABilly Joel, of course, was great.
Speaker AAnd.
Speaker AAnd Bon Jovi.
Speaker AI mean, Living on a Prayer.
Speaker AFantastic.
Speaker AI saw Britney.
Speaker AI saw Britney at a moment where she was having a rough time.
Speaker AYou know, she was barely moving around on stage, but look, it was Britney.
Speaker ASo I was fired up to see Brittany, but I. I always worry about her.
Speaker AWent to the Jingle Ball.
Speaker AThat's that thing, like, during the Christmas time where like all these people get together.
Speaker AI took my daughter there when she was younger and I didn't know.
Speaker AI mean, I had no idea who anybody was.
Speaker ALike Louis Capaldi.
Speaker ANo idea.
Speaker AZara Larson, no idea who that is.
Speaker AThey had Jonas Brothers.
Speaker AThat was all right.
Speaker AI mean, they're.
Speaker AI don't care about the Jones Brothers.
Speaker AI went to 2 Live Crew back in the day.
Speaker AHoly cow.
Speaker AI don't even think I'm still old enough to hear some of the words that they were saying.
Speaker AThat was.
Speaker AOh, that was bananas.
Speaker ABut the most bananas one I ever been to, which is just jog my memory, was, I went to Lollapalooza.
Speaker AI guess that's like Coachella, but.
Speaker AAnd I was younger, so I went to Lollapalooza back in the day.
Speaker AAnd it was crazy.
Speaker AIt was like a million people.
Speaker AAnd I was young, right?
Speaker AI was in high school, I believe, and it was crazy.
Speaker AAnd so they had the Red Hot Chili Peppers on stage.
Speaker AIt was so much fun.
Speaker AAnd so they had a mosh pit.
Speaker AAnd I shouldn't be in a mosh pit because I'm a big wimp.
Speaker ABut I go in the mosh pit in the front and everyone's going crazy.
Speaker AAnd it's running around.
Speaker AI'm getting, like, beat up.
Speaker AIt's nuts.
Speaker AAnd then they scream out.
Speaker ASomebody screams out they go, who wants to get thrown on stage?
Speaker AAnd I'm in.
Speaker AIdiot.
Speaker AI mean, straight up.
Speaker AOkay, So I was fired up.
Speaker AI go, me, I want to get thrown on stage.
Speaker ASo everybody in the crowd lifts me up on their with their hands and I am like floating, whatever.
Speaker AAnd then I get right up and I go.
Speaker AThey throw me on stage with, with Anthony Kiedis and Flee Fleas, the guitar player.
Speaker AAnd I'm on stage now with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Speaker AI'm like, this is great.
Speaker AThis was like a moment.
Speaker AAnd then the largest human being that you've ever seen comes and tackles me like, like.
Speaker AAnd I thought my entire rib cage broke.
Speaker AI thought I was dead.
Speaker AOkay?
Speaker AThey tackle me and they throw me into the back area and they scream at me.
Speaker AI was in so much pain, but I was so excited.
Speaker AThe whole thing was so exciting.
Speaker AAnd then finally I met back up my friends.
Speaker AI could barely move.
Speaker ALike, what happened?
Speaker ALike, I don't know.
Speaker AI'm an idiot.
Speaker ASo don't do that.
Speaker AWhatever you do, don't do that.
Speaker ASo that is my experience.
Speaker AIf you want to go to Coachella, have a great time.
Speaker AI don't know what to tell you.
Speaker AI'm not going to see you there.
Speaker AAnd leave this thing a review.
Speaker ABecause you know what?
