Hey everybody. Welcome back to another edition of the Daily Bible Podcast. Hello and welcome back. Thank you so much for joining us again. It's Tuesday and we're glad that you're back with us. It's Tuesday. Yeah, it's Tuesday, September. The 16th. 16th, yes. Tuesday, September 16th. Yeah, we, when we record on Friday, it's hard 'cause you gotta jump, like normally we're just jumping ahead one day, two days at most. Saturdays are hard enough 'cause we gotta jump forward three days. Yeah. But then Fridays it's oh man, we gotta jump forward four days. Now those very weird. It does feel weird, but it is Tuesday. And by the way, sometimes you'll notice that. We will send out episodes and maybe something massively significant happens like on Wednesday. Now I jumped on late at night Wednesday night and threw a bumper onto the podcast episode that dropped on Thursday. But because we record these early, if you listen to one of our podcasts the day after something significant happens and you're saying why aren't they talking about this event? That's probably why because we recorded it before. It took place. We record two days in advance on some of these and three days on the weekends. W we typically like to get to big ticket items. We find that this is a good platform to be able to address some of those things. And so sometimes we're a day late on that from where everybody else is already given their opinion. And that can be helpful sometimes 'cause we have a little bit more time to process and figure things out and gather some more details. But that's generally speaking, why now when something big happens we may jump in and do I did on Thursday morning, and there was something on the front end of it, but typically if you're going, why aren't they talking about it? It's probably because we recorded it the day before the actual event took place. I think there's also a sliding scale. Oh, this is gonna get. Dangerous. Okay. It's just letting scale things that we will Yeah. Talk about and things that we won't. Yeah. It's not that we don't think something's especially big or should have some kind of commentary. It's just that big things are happening all the time now. They really are. And there was a school shooting. Yeah. I think on the same day there was, as Charlie Kirk's assassination, and I just thought, man I'm grieving for our nation. And that's the sad thing is that's not the first time we've heard that. Or the last time. I find it to be incredibly difficult. We do this podcast in part because we do wanna engage with the modern things that are happening to help you think through those things. But our whole podcast would be filled Yeah. With news. And here's how the Bible speaks to that specific thing and that's what some people are called to do. Dr. Moeller does that every morning, Monday through Friday. We're thankful for that. We just can't do that without losing. The plot line of what this podcast is actually for. So even though that's true, we don't hit all the big things. And some of the things that you think, oh, they should have talked about this. This is so huge, and this person was talking about it and that person was, we may not, because there's just so many big fish to fry and we wanna keep the heartbeat of this podcast in the Bible. We wanna be in the Bible, we wanna apply the Bible, think about the Bible, because ultimately that's gonna point us to our greatest hope and our greatest help. As helpful as it is, and we hope it's helpful when we talk about some of these big ticket items. Yeah, and that's a good word. And the other thing too, not only is so much happening, but we're aware of so much more happening than at any other time in history. Oh man. Because of social media flooded in 24 7 news and sometimes it's good to break away from that and not to lose yourself in the details of all of it. Can I introduce. A controversial subject. Sure. Why not relate? I know the last couple have been spicy. Okay. One of the responses. I saw to Charlie Kirk's assassination, and this is not surprising. Anyone who's listening to this will probably find a lot of similarities. I follow different accounts for different reasons, and what's interesting is that some of these accounts will put their account on the line to make some kind of statement about the way they feel about the event. And I do think there's a place for that. There's appropriateness to say, look, I run this funny account, but here's my heart on the matter of prayers and thoughts, or whatever else. Yeah. One account that I follow that really has nothing to do with any of this stuff that's happening. Decided to say something to the effect of, and I'm gonna give it to you and I want free to respond. Something like, when will we realize guns are the issue? And underneath this post was lots of affirmation. Yes, that's totally right. Why can't we do something about this? Gun control has to happen. Why are we okay with this? We're the only civilized nation. Where these kinds of things are a regular repeating occurrence. And that's true. We do have an issue more than any nation, as I understand it. I think we have a bigger problem with this than anybody else does, and the question of course is why, and some of the answers that people offer are gonna be, look, we have a gun control. And we need to resolve that right now. Our kids are in harm's way. When are we gonna do this? And so this is one of the political talking points I know, but as a Christian and as a pastor, help us think through some of that. Yeah. Because we should have common sense gun control restrictions. No one's gonna deny that. We also wanna protect some of our amendment rights or first amendment rights. So help us wade through the waters we want. We don't wanna be political more than we are Biblical. Give us some leadership in this. Yeah. I would say Matthew five, Jesus would say the issue is the heart, and that's always gonna be the case. And so when he's saying, I believe it's Matthew five, maybe Matthew six, the Sermon on the Mount runs together. Quite honestly, when he's saying, if your right hand causes you to sin, you need to chop it off and throw it from you. If your left eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it from you. And then also in that same context when he's saying, look, if you hate your brother, it's like you've murdered your brother. And the reason being is because the issue is a heart issue and no matter what, that's gonna be the problem. And no amount of rules and regulations can get to the heart. You can't fix somebody or solve depravity by going after rules and regulations and putting restrictions in place. We may have the greatest issue with gun issues and gun violence, but if you look at the UK right now, they have. Strict gun rules and regulations over there, and they're facing an epidemic of crime. And there've been a lot of assault. I'll leave it at that. You can read into the word assault, what is actually taking place over there. And so the depravity of man is always gonna fi, it's always gonna leak no matter what. You, you can try to restrain it with every single thing that you can put in place from a human perspective. And yet the depravity of man will leak out somewhere. And so you may argue we would have less deaths here if we restricted guns, maybe. Maybe we would, although that's not necessarily always the case either. You've got murders that are taking place all over the world. People are creative at finding ways to extinguish the life of other people that they don't want to exist. It's not the issue's not, Hey, we need to stop people from having guns. Because the other thing I would say is, okay, let's look at other laws that have been put in place, for example. I'm pretty sure it's illegal for someone to possess fentanyl, and yet what we found is people find their ways around the laws. This is putting the law in place doesn't solve the issue. Putting the law in place doesn't mean this is no longer gonna happen, and so we, we need to be realistic about the fact that the ability of. Humanity to treat the condition of the human heart, which is really the main problem here, is gonna be limited no matter what. No matter what laws you pass, no matter what restrictions you put into place, nobody can solve the depravity of the human heart. Only Jesus can do that. So I've heard people respond to that common sense response and say Yes, but we also recognize the need for seatbelt laws. Police officers will enforce seatbelt laws because they're common sense. They save lives. And what we, those of us who pro promote gun laws are suggesting is that we can save lives by installing common sense gun laws that protect the weakest and most vulnerable among us. Can you respond to that? Yeah. I, those that, okay. Yeah. I think I'm understanding where you're going with that. I think. You can also point to the fact that people who have been armed, who have been carrying, have prevented a lot of awful things from taking place, or awful situations from escalating to degrees that they would've gone to otherwise had somebody not been there who is concealing and carrying, and who is trained, and who could handle things the way that they need to handle things. So I, I think you can argue that the right use of guns is a good thing and something that we should look at and say, this is. Appropriate. There are times where deadly force being applied is something that is good overall for humanity because it prevents something even worse from taking place. And so it's now you're left with the scales and trying to stack up evidence which does worse? Which, which does more harm? And that's a debate that people are gonna have until Jesus comes back. Absolutely. Yeah. And I guess it's important just to recognize to what you just said earlier, the fact that the human heart is involved hearts that are intent on doing evil. Aren't looking at the laws and saying, Hey, is it okay for me to buy a gun? Totally. They're not gonna submit to some kind of government governing authority to say, Hey, can I purchase this assault rifle? I'd like to utilize this to do a lot of damage. And is this okay? They don't have the same kind of conscience, and I think that's part of the argument people will make, is that people are gonna do evil regardless of whether or not the laws on the books say yes or no. I think that's also. You know what I'm just gonna go a certain direction. I'll leave that out. But yeah, to your point it is really primarily a hard issue. We would not deny the fact that there should be common sense laws. Yes. The question of course then is, whose common sense are we going to apply? And that's where the real heat and the light is because we're arguing not at simple practical matters. We're saying what's right and what's wrong. And the fact that we're arguing at the right and wrong level are arguing morals. Yes. And because we're so morally divided. We disagree fundamentally about a man and a woman. That's why they're having so many issues here, talking about these things in productive ways. Yeah. Yeah. Let's get into our DBR for today, Daniel 10, 11, and 12. We're gonna finish up the book of Daniel and in Daniel 10 we open up in 5 36 BC I said yesterday, Daniel's gonna stick around and here's the evidence of that. Captivity is already over. Some people have already gone back to Jerusalem, and so Daniel's still here in, in Babylon, in exile. And he has another vision. And this time it's a vision not of a, of an animal, not a beast, not of these things, but of a man. And it says that in verse six is a body was like barrel, his face like the appearance of lightning. This description that is this overwhelming figure of a man, of a one that looks like a man at least. And his voice is like the sound of a multitude. And Daniel sees him and it says, my, my strength left me, my radiant appearance was fearfully changed and I retained no strength. And he falls onto his face in this deep. Sleep. And then the next thing you know is somebody taps him on the shoulder. So I guess the difficulty here is trying to discern, is this Jesus that he sees in this initial vision or is it. A man. And here's the thing. If it's Jesus, then there has to be two beings in this. This chapter, the one that taps him on the shoulder has to be somebody different than the vision of the man that he sees. The reason being is the one that taps him on the shoulder is gonna talk about how he's been opposed by the Prince of Persia, that he has been with, stood for 21 days. So none of us would say that Jesus is gonna be able to be withstood by a demonic force. Jesus is gonna be able to get. Through whoever he wants to get through. So that has to be an angelic being. The main messenger of chapter 10 is an angelic being. It's just this vision that he sees of this figure in the response that he has to it is one that gives me enough pause to say, is this a vision of Christ that he has? And then there's an angelic being that's dispatched to deliver the rest of the content to him. Or is this an archangel? Is this the angel Gabriel? That is just so overwhelming because he's appearing in his full glor glorified form at that point. Thoughts on that? Yeah, man I'd have to agree that because of the evidence of some kind of weakness Yeah. Some kind of powerlessness against a foe tells me everything I need to know. Yeah. Just think about, I think about every time a human being comes across an angel, there's always worship. Yeah. Worship is the first response because they're so magnificent, they're so mighty. They're they reflect the holiness of God and they don't have sin like we do. So I think it makes sense to me, at least in part, to suggest this angelic visitation is something magnificent, and perhaps he's one of the ones who are closer to God. There are angels that are closer to God and those who are further. And I think those who are closer share the greater privilege and perhaps a greater sense of the reflected holiness of God. So I'm gonna go with that. I can't think this is Jesus. If it is, I need a really good argument to think of why he seems to struggle with something that the King of Glory would not struggle with. Yeah. I just, I struggle, I guess a little bit because Gabriel shows up in chapter nine. And Gabriel's an archangel. Right? And there's no, there's not the same response to Gabriel in chapter nine as there is here. And so it's okay, why does Gabriel appear, or whoever this angel is, to be so much more overwhelming to Daniel in this vision than he did in chapter nine when he came to give the answer to Daniel's prayer. Totally. And I would appeal to my ignorance of the angelic realm. Yeah. We talked about powers, principalities, and all those things that are happening behind the scenes. I'm gonna say maybe there's a class of angel that just. Looks really weird. Yeah, I think most of them do look weird. They, I think they appeal to us or appeal to us in human form. Yeah. For our sake. Yeah. He shows up and he tells Daniel, Hey, I was dispatched and I was coming to help you, but I was withstood. And so this is what you're talking about, that there are wars that were unaware of. There are battles taking place in the angelic realm that we're unaware of. And this is an example of that. Daniel was waiting for an answer and this angel had to stop and fight the Prince of Persia and. GA or Michael had to come to his aid and help him with this and he's gonna go on here and explain more, especially in chapter 11 of the things that are about to happen, the things that are coming. Chapter 11, we do find out more about specifically Greece. And the reason why Greece is so important here is because in context it's the Persians that are on the throne as Daniel's writing this. And so that goes back to chapter 10 verse one, the third year of Cyrus, king of Persia. So the Persians are there, the next ones up are Greece and Alexander the Great is gonna lead the charge on that. But then after Alexander the Great, the kingdoms are gonna be split and you're gonna have two major kingdoms emerge from that. You're gonna have the kings of the south. That's the Tommies and they're are headquartered in Egypt, and then you're gonna have the Kings of the North, and that's the lucid. And so Chapter 10 records a lot of history of the unfolding of the conflict between the kings of the North and the kings of the South. In other words, the Tommies and the Lucid. And this is another example where people will look at the book of Daniel and they will look at this chapter and say, man, this describes so perfectly the conflict between the tomes and the sids, that there's no way this was written before these events took place. And so that's just another symbol for us as Christians to look at this and go, no we believe it did, because we believe this is God who's predicting these things through the pen of Daniel, as the angel, Michael is revealing all of these things to him. One of the people that's gonna emerge from this battle is going to be. Antiochus epiphanies and anus epiphanies is gonna be one of those that emerges and then begins to want to expand his territory as far as he can. And so he is going to attempt to go after the King of the South. He's gonna attempt to go after the toes and take them out, and yet he's gonna be rebuffed, he's gonna be turned away. And in his anger, he's gonna turn his attention against Jerusalem, a smaller foe. At the time, and he's going to go after it says there in verse 28 against their holy covenant. And so after another setback in Egypt, he's gonna come back and he's gonna actually take action. It says against the holy covenant. This is gonna be the abomination of desolation. He's gonna put an end to the sacrificial system there in the temple. He's gonna set up this image there in the temple, which we know historically to be an image of Zeus that was erected in the temple in Israel. There. He is going to defy the nation of Israel. And so this is more on Antiochus epiphanies and what's coming here. But what is gonna take place as the chapter continues is that the focus is gonna shift from him to the one that he's gonna ultimately foreshadow. And that is beginning in verse 36, the coming of the antichrist. And you say why do we shift from anus epiphanies to the antichrist? Why do we shift from anus epiphanies to antichrist? Thanks, man. Because. What we read about in the rest of chapter 11, these things don't describe what took place under the reign of Antica epiphanies. And so these are yet future things that are gonna take place. And so we know that this is anticipating something else. And what this describes is the rise to power of the antichrist, basically in the rest of Chapter 11, and that the antichrist is not gonna be unopposed. There are gonna be those that battle and fight against him, the differences, he's going to win. He's going to come and be the one that holds ultimate power. And that's all in accordance with God's plan. And yet, in the end, part of God's plan is that he will come to his end as the chapter ends with no one here to help him. Hey, can I encourage you to be patient with yourself as you work through stuff like this? Yes. You're you clearly you've studied, you've been doing this a long time. You know what's happening. You're talking about the different groups here. Most people that approach this for the first time, or even the 10th time, or maybe even the 50th time, still struggle with putting some of these pieces together. So if you're feeling that. You're in good company. That's okay. What you need is a good study Bible and a lot of patients, and maybe a good commentary. Is there a commentary that you've been using for this PPJ Man? I think in this territory the Bible Knowledge commentary is just super helpful Bible knowledge, commentary. The reason being is again, we are dispensationalist and that informs our view of a lot of these things because this is dealing with the end times. A lot of it is. Yep. And eSV study Bible is great. I would say probably not gonna be as helpful in this context because they're gonna take a different position on the end times. That's right. Not aberrant. We're not dealing with believer unbeliever, but just a different position. So I would recommend Bible knowledge commentary. Again, I think MacArthur's single volume commentary on the whole Bible is. Really good and helpful. It's brief. Is that different than a study bible? Succinct? That's a good question. I don't know. I haven't compared and contrasted. Okay. But the MacArthur study Bible would be another good resource for you as well? Yeah, the both of those resources are fantastic and what you need is to be patient with yourself as you read through this, and maybe you. What we're doing is Bible reading, not Bible studying. So I know this is gonna be different than what you would ordinarily do, but maybe for a chapter like this, you spend a little more time with it and give yourself 15, 20 minutes to read through the commentary information and to compare it. Make some notes in your Bible. But all that to say, I just want you to know you're not alone in your struggle. Through chapters like this, we all have. And some of us still do. It just takes time. Be patient with yourself, keep trucking along. You're doing a great job by being here. Yeah. Good encouragement. Chapter 12 opens with the time of Jacob's trouble. This is the end times. This is as everything is ramping up. This is the antichrist reign where Israel's gonna face unprecedented suffering and troubles. Though God will ultimately deliver them. This is gonna be a period of time for, again, three and a half years. We see that there in the chapter where it says a time, times, and half a time. Again, that's verse seven. I believe, and so this is the back half of the three and a half years of the tribulation. So the tribulation overview, the rapture takes place, the antichrist comes to power. There's going to be a peaceful period of time for three and a half years. It's going to look like this is gonna be a peaceful period of time for seven years. There's a treaty that's entered into between the antichrist and specifically God's people. Three and a half years into that, he's gonna break that. And that is what. Kicks off this time of Jacob's trouble, and this is this three and a half back year period of the tribulation period where not only are the judgments of God being poured out, which we're gonna read about in the Book of Revelation, you've got some cosmic events taking place and judgment of God on the earth. But then on top of that, you've got the antichrist persecuting God's people, Israel specifically, and that's what we're reading about in chapter 12. So the last seven year this, the 70th week of Dan, week seven. Yep. Is the whole tribulation period, or the whole seven year period, even though the first three and a half years is a time of peace. That's still called Jacob's trouble. Yes. That's the final week of Daniel's. 70th week. Yes. Alright. Yes. We'll all clear. Yeah. Perfectly crystal. Be because that first three and a half years is still gonna be marked by God's judgment on the earth. There, there's still judgments that are being unleashed and poured out even during this time of peace between the Antichrist and Israel. And where are the Christians? Christians during this period are with Christ. This is the time period of the wedding supper of the Lamb. This is the time period where we have received our glorified bodies after the rapture that we are with him awaiting his return. We're getting ready to come back with him when he comes back to vanquish the antichrist and set up the millennial kingdom, which is what happens next. So when someone says. That they believe in a pre tribulational rapture. Yes. What we're saying is that we believe Christians are taken up to God. Yes. Before the seven 70th week of Daniel. Yes. The time of Jacob's trouble. Yes. There are people that are mid tris and post tris. Wanna say anything about those guys? Yeah. I think there is more cred, credence to the mid trib position than the post tri position. And here's why. The post tribulational position doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense because if we're gonna be raptured, which means to be caught up. With Jesus right to be caught up in the air with him right after the tribulation period ends then what that means is we're being caught up to him only to turn around and come straight back down. You turn the establishment of the millennial kingdom. So that one doesn't make as much sense to me. The mid trip position the argument there is. There's so much ink in the New Testament, including in one Peter that we're studying right now spilled over how Christians need to suffer well and be prepared for suffering. That would it make sense for God to pull the church out right before that takes place? There's other arguments surrounding that as well, but that's one of the arguments that the church is called to suffer and be a witness even during that suffering time when the tribulation period takes place. I I still think there's first, thus four revelation when he says, I'm gonna keep you from the hour of trouble that's coming upon the whole Earth and he's speaking to the church. There, there are good reasons for us to hold to a pre tribulational rapture. But there are also good believers out there that, that don't, so yeah. Not the least of which reason being, I don't wanna be part of that. Yes. I don't wanna be there. Yes, I am praying. I am a. Pre Tribulational rapture position by conviction. But I'm also by hope. Yes. Amen. I don't Amen. Want to live through that. Amen. No, thank you. Yeah. Same. Same. Alright, let's pray and then we'll be done with this episode. God help us to live ready for the rapture. Just, we're gonna be talking about that or we, I guess we just did talk about that on Sunday, but we wanna be ready for our appointment with you. And we wanna live faithfully in the meantime, and we want to be trusting your word. And we thank you for books like Daniel that lay things out for us that we can read and we can understand as much as we can help us to understand more as we apply ourselves, as we seek to study these things. And not to grow weary or discouraged by things that are difficult to understand, but to use the helps that you've given us to learn more about who you are and what your word says. And so we pray for a great week towards that end. In Jesus name, amen. Amen. Keep reading your Bibles. Tune in again tomorrow for another edition of the Daily Bible Podcast. See you tomorrow. Bye.
