Speaker A

My chest is so sore, like, right in here.

Speaker A

It's that, you know, like.

Speaker A

And I guess I just didn't realize, like, how much you use those muscles, you know, like, just in walking around.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

It's.

Speaker B

It's weird.

Speaker B

So it's a strange sensation because, you know you're getting stronger because you're using those muscles.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker B

Because you can feel your muscles.

Speaker B

As a guy, we have this thing in our head where it's like, okay, now we feel like we can lift everything.

Speaker B

We're gonna.

Speaker B

You know, like we're becoming superheroes.

Speaker B

And then at the same time, it's like, no, we're weaklings.

Speaker A

Well, I told Clint yesterday after, you know, getting all pumped and working out and everything, I was like, I just want to hit something.

Speaker B

I just want to go.

Speaker A

I just want to hit something.

Speaker B

You almost want somebody to mess with you in the story, you know, I've been working out.

Speaker A

It's perfect opportunity to hit someone.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

Okay.

Speaker B

That's bad.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

Please hit me so I can.

Speaker A

I can utilize this newfound adrenaline rush.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

When I was actively.

Speaker B

I probably should train again, because I used to be in incredible shape.

Speaker B

But when I was actively training, I would get through a day of just.

Speaker B

So there's a period before your muscles really hurt, you know, where there's that.

Speaker B

I would go to the gym, and I would just really work it.

Speaker B

Lots of cardio, get my arms done, get my legs done.

Speaker B

I would always do a full body.

Speaker B

There was never just arms day.

Speaker B

It was always had legs, if I'm doing arms and all that stuff.

Speaker B

And I was always working on my core, and I would get, like, a really great workout to the point where, like, you're, like, shaking, and as soon as my body kind of relaxed and, like, there's that in between period where.

Speaker A

You just feel like a million dollars.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

And, like.

Speaker B

But you feel.

Speaker B

You know, you feel like the Flash.

Speaker B

Like, let's go.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Yeah, totally.

Speaker B

It is.

Speaker A

You feel like a million dollars for real.

Speaker A

Like, yeah, yesterday.

Speaker A

And that.

Speaker A

That also, like, yesterday was just so good because coming off of that, I.

Speaker A

I got gas for 33 cents cheaper than I did could anywhere else at Walmart.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

Like, it was 33 cents cheaper than any of the other gas stations.

Speaker A

So that led right into that excitement because, like, 33 cents is a big deal.

Speaker A

Like, 10 cents.

Speaker A

Okay, whatever.

Speaker A

33.

Speaker A

That's a lot, you know, so I'll save you at least.

Speaker A

What?

Speaker B

A lot?

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Especially if filling up five bucks.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker B

33 cents for my truck is a giant amount of Money, right?

Speaker A

So, yeah, so then, like.

Speaker A

Then I went out to eat with Lizzy, right?

Speaker A

So that was good lunch.

Speaker A

Like a little lunch date, which we just talked.

Speaker A

Talked and hung out, scored that stuff.

Speaker A

And it's just like.

Speaker A

Everything was just like, oh, right off of that.

Speaker A

That.

Speaker A

That pump, that feeling, that good feeling.

Speaker B

You know, and that endorphins.

Speaker B

That's what it is when you're.

Speaker B

When you're just living.

Speaker A

I rode the endorphins all day today, too.

Speaker A

Except last night I thought we were being invaded by aliens.

Speaker A

No joke.

Speaker A

I was outside smoking a cigar, playing dnd, and I kid you not, I've got the cigar in this hand and something hits me in the hand and lands on this makeshift table that I've made, right?

Speaker A

And I'm like, what is that?

Speaker A

And so I get my flashlight out, and the best way I could describe the thing was it was like the front end was like a reptile type creature and the back end was some sort of, like, bug type creature, right?

Speaker A

And it was about an inch.

Speaker A

Inch and a half.

Speaker A

I was probably an inch and a half long, right?

Speaker A

Like, it was.

Speaker A

It was every bit of that.

Speaker A

I was freaked all kinds out.

Speaker A

And I tried to take a picture, but as I was trying to take a picture, when the flash happened, it ran at me and I just, like, screamed.

Speaker A

And, like, I'm throwing my headphones across the table, you know, we're trying to play D and D.

Speaker A

And I wasn't trying to squish it.

Speaker A

I was just trying to figure out what it was.

Speaker A

Come to find out, I was terrified, too.

Speaker A

Come to find out, it's called a mole cricket.

Speaker B

Oh, I gotta look up a picture of this now.

Speaker A

Dude.

Speaker A

Freaking thing.

Speaker B

I wonder if I've seen it.

Speaker A

It's, like, terrifying when you see them in person.

Speaker A

They are not harmful to people or animals, but they are terrifying.

Speaker B

Yeah, Yeah, I know.

Speaker A

Let me see.

Speaker A

Let me see that.

Speaker B

Okay.

Speaker A

Which one do you pull up?

Speaker B

I pull up this thing.

Speaker A

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker A

Dude.

Speaker A

Especially at night in the dark, trying to, like, see this thing with, like, a flashlight.

Speaker A

Oh, my gosh, dude.

Speaker A

Yeah, it was terrifying.

Speaker A

I.

Speaker A

I jumped out of my skin.

Speaker B

They are about an inch and a half.

Speaker A

Yeah, I know, because I'm describing this thing.

Speaker A

I'm like.

Speaker A

I'm all kinds of freaked out, right?

Speaker A

Because it disappears under my chair.

Speaker A

Like, I don't know.

Speaker A

It was.

Speaker A

But once I figured out what it was, it was like, okay, yeah, that's not as bad.

Speaker A

I'm not even worried about it getting inside now.

Speaker A

It's like, but yeah, dude, it freakin looks like some kind of like reptile front end with a bug back end.

Speaker A

Like, it was just like, we're being invaded.

Speaker A

I don't know what this is.

Speaker A

You know, like, that's great.

Speaker B

Mole kick.

Speaker B

Oh, wait, hold on.

Speaker B

They're not known to bite.

Speaker B

Okay.

Speaker A

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker B

I had to look because it was like they eat.

Speaker A

They eat the roots of plants and so they're bad for your, you know, trees and plants and all that sort of thing.

Speaker B

But well, see, like, I realized that now Google is made for the ADHD that just want to follow the dopamine because you'll Google something and then it'll have like all these suggested searches.

Speaker B

I looked up molecule and it was like cricket byte.

Speaker B

I now need to see what this is about.

Speaker A

You click it and it's like, oh, no, they're not known to bite or whatever.

Speaker A

But yeah.

Speaker B

Oh my gosh, all the suggested, like, questions I get wrapped.

Speaker B

I spend way too much time reading.

Speaker B

Like, if I see them, you know, I can't help myself.

Speaker B

I'm always clicking things just to be what's this about then?

Speaker B

What's this about?

Speaker B

And I, I will spend I in a moment where I was like, I'll just google it real quick and see what this is about.

Speaker B

Next thing you know, I've spent 25 minutes just because I see something else.

Speaker B

I'm like, well, what's that then?

Speaker B

What's this?

Speaker B

What does that mean?

Speaker B

You know?

Speaker B

Or I'll find a whole different thing.

Speaker A

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker B

I was doing research for a sermon one time and I thought, well, maybe a good analogy.

Speaker B

And I didn't end up using it, but I said, maybe a good analogy would be vehicles.

Speaker B

You know, it's something I know a lot about.

Speaker B

I had some ideas and I thought I'd Google some things just to kind of see if I would back up what I wanted to do or not.

Speaker B

And I spent another 25 minutes looking at like, the best, most reliable cars.

Speaker B

The worst cars.

Speaker B

Like, what are the.

Speaker B

That was what really got me.

Speaker B

Like, what are the cars that people are saying are the worst ones to have?

Speaker A

Google knows you, though.

Speaker A

Like, Google knows what.

Speaker A

What you want.

Speaker A

Yeah, right.

Speaker A

And so, like, as soon as you type something in, it's like, all right, I understand how this dude thinks.

Speaker A

Here is all the things that he's gonna want to do, right?

Speaker A

Like, it's all clickbait.

Speaker A

All of it's clickbait, right?

Speaker A

Like, if all of it, if I.

Speaker B

Have nothing to do with my Time.

Speaker B

I should just open up Google.

Speaker B

It's odd, but that's.

Speaker B

I could do it that way.

Speaker B

Or, like, that's why YouTube is, like, bad for me.

Speaker B

Because if I open up YouTube and just start following videos, it's amazing the kind of time I'll spend watching stuff I didn't realize I was ever gonna watch.

Speaker A

I catch myself clicking on a new page in Chrome just so I can read the headlines, right?

Speaker A

And then I'm like, this is all clickbait.

Speaker A

All of this is clickbait.

Speaker A

All of it.

Speaker B

Yeah, but I mean, I.

Speaker A

If you go to any of the articles, it's all ads.

Speaker A

Like, it's all ads.

Speaker A

And, you know, that's just.

Speaker A

I mean, it's.

Speaker A

It's junk.

Speaker B

But I can't help myself, though, because when I.

Speaker B

When I see it, I'm like, I'm gonna see.

Speaker B

What is this?

Speaker A

Oh, yeah, yeah.

Speaker B

And they know it.

Speaker B

Google has its algorithms, know that Matt can't help himself.

Speaker B

And it's going to.

Speaker B

It's.

Speaker B

It's bad.

Speaker A

All right, so what's going on, guys?

Speaker A

I think that you've probably tuned into this whole conversation.

Speaker A

This is great.

Speaker A

I don't feel like.

Speaker B

I feel like we should just keep most.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

So what's up, guy?

Speaker B

I'm Matt.

Speaker A

I'm Derek.

Speaker B

And we've been talking about nonsense, but hopefully it's been amusing to you, right?

Speaker B

I have no.

Speaker B

When I go to edit this, I can't wait to see, like, where I'm gonna start this, because it'll be unorthodox, but it's gonna be awesome.

Speaker A

Yeah, it'll be good.

Speaker A

We're trying some new things with, like, how we are starting off.

Speaker A

And so the very first thing we're gonna do now, I guess it's not the first thing because we've already done stuff, but I got a question from the random box.

Speaker B

We love the random box.

Speaker A

We do love the random box.

Speaker A

You guys seem to love the random box.

Speaker A

So here is the question for today.

Speaker A

We're gonna kick it off, then we'll pray after we have a short discussion and kick it into our actual topic.

Speaker A

So, okay, when you consider Christian teachings, what is your view on consuming alcohol?

Speaker B

Oh.

Speaker B

Oh, okay.

Speaker B

I can do that.

Speaker B

I got this.

Speaker B

Well, I mean, from my perspective.

Speaker B

Okay, so my view on consuming alcohol, I think the Bible makes it very clear that Americans got it right.

Speaker A

No, the Bible states that Americans are.

Speaker B

So.

Speaker B

No, actually.

Speaker B

So the Bible does make it very clear that to be a drunkard is a problem.

Speaker A

But how would you define drunkard?

Speaker A

Just so that we can be clear.

Speaker B

A drunkard is not someone that goes and has.

Speaker B

It's a problem.

Speaker B

Basically.

Speaker B

A problem with alcohol can be defined in a couple different things.

Speaker B

And in today's world, we know it can be different things.

Speaker B

Some people just have a problem with alcohol.

Speaker B

The idea is that if you are enjoying a glass with dinner, or obviously when they did communion or anything like that, to have a glass with what you're eating or something, that's not sinful in itself.

Speaker B

But if you chase that alcohol feeling, if that's what you're doing, if you keep trying to use it, to use it to escape, if you can't have a good time unless you have alcohol, or if you just want to get tipsy and drunk, and that's how you do it.

Speaker B

I had a friend at one point said to me, when I drink alcohol, I drink to get drunk.

Speaker B

That's what I do it for.

Speaker B

And I'm like, yeah, so that's being a drunkard.

Speaker B

When you.

Speaker B

Or today we know that there's people, we call it a disease of alcoholism where they can't be around it because once their body gets a taste of it, they just chase that until it leads to destruction.

Speaker B

And so, yeah, there's a difference between, in today's society, like enjoying a beer, glass of wine or whatever, to have one with your dinner or friends, that's not a sinful nature.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker B

But if you are doing it and then you start chasing these other means.

Speaker B

And so people also.

Speaker B

I'll take this a step further.

Speaker B

People ask about it when it comes to other substances as well, even things that are legal, because where I'm from in Maryland, you know, they legalized marijuana and they.

Speaker B

So people were like, what does the Bible say about this?

Speaker B

I said, it doesn't say anything specifically about the plant.

Speaker B

But I will say this.

Speaker B

It does say something about being intoxicated.

Speaker B

But the question then arises, why are you doing this?

Speaker B

You know what I mean?

Speaker B

It's one thing, like I said, if you do it, because we're going to have a glass of wine with dinner and everything's under control and everything's good and this isn't a problem for you.

Speaker B

Okay, that's fine.

Speaker B

Also, if you're not causing someone else to stumble is another important thing to keep under consideration.

Speaker B

So, for instance, if you know that the person that you're having for dinner has a problem with alcohol, it's probably good practice not to have a drink.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker B

You know, and if they're a good company where not.

Speaker B

Not to Say that someone that has a trouble with alcohol is bad company.

Speaker B

I don't want to make sure that I don't say anything that people misunderstand.

Speaker B

If they're the kind of person that can handle it just fine, there's no problems.

Speaker B

Okay, that's fine.

Speaker B

But if there is, if it's a stumbling block for them, if it opens them up to a world of hurt or, you know, you don't want to do that, you don't want to cause people to stumble, so you got to watch how you do your actions there as well.

Speaker B

That's important.

Speaker B

But if you cross that line, then.

Speaker B

And then you are doing it and it causes someone hurt or stumbling, or you are now becoming a drunkard, or you're abusing it and you're chasing it for more than just enjoying a glass, that then, yeah, that's a problem.

Speaker B

And so the Bible speaks against that.

Speaker B

Now, people use certain verses out of context, like make sure you're of alert and sober mind, which has more to do with making sure that you're following Christ and looking at the world the correct way through him than it has with anything else.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker B

But so just to clarify those.

Speaker A

And sober mind, even though even that, like the word sober can be used for so much.

Speaker B

So much.

Speaker A

But I mean, even just like, just not even substance, right?

Speaker A

Like you can have a mind that is not sober because of your way of thought.

Speaker B

Now, I will say that, I mean, alcohol is also one of those substances that because it is so easily abused and because it can be damaging to certain people, it's one of those things that you have to proceed with caution because of the dangers it imposes and health risks and because so many people have issues with it.

Speaker B

That's why we have to have these kinds of laws in place.

Speaker B

The Prohibition era was a reaction to people steadily abusing alcohol in extreme ways.

Speaker B

And society started going, well, this must be the issue.

Speaker B

It's actually not that dissimilar to gun law, stuff like that, where it's like, well, it's not the gun.

Speaker B

It's not necessarily inherently the alcohol, but it is the person with the alcohol.

Speaker B

And so there's ways we have to be able to navigate that.

Speaker B

Church history actually shows that.

Speaker B

I mean, making of alcoholic beverages is one of the oldest pastimes.

Speaker B

And church history is full with ministries that over the whole history of the church that used brewing to help fund the church where they, like Martin Luther.

Speaker A

Everything from wine to.

Speaker B

And beer.

Speaker B

Beer was a big thing.

Speaker B

Wine was a big thing.

Speaker B

Beer was a big thing.

Speaker B

In fact, I think Martin Luther's wife brewed beer.

Speaker B

It was a big part of his ministry and funding it.

Speaker B

And so.

Speaker B

But it's all within restraint if you're out there and you're abusing it or if it becomes something.

Speaker B

For instance, I was in a church one time, and I won't say what church it was or anything more than that, but it was a church denomination that believed that.

Speaker B

They believed that God wanted us to enjoy life here.

Speaker B

That was the basis of it.

Speaker B

And in so doing, they, even at their church functions, would serve alcohol, which could be problematic, to say the least.

Speaker A

Could be.

Speaker B

But I was at this certain church function, and the person who led the church was intoxicated.

Speaker B

Okay.

Speaker B

We would call this person a pastor.

Speaker B

This person called themselves by the title of father, but they were intoxicated and visibly so.

Speaker B

And I thought, this is a problem.

Speaker B

You know, it's one thing to be like, hey, guys, it's okay if you have a drink.

Speaker B

But another thing to be visibly changed by the fact that you.

Speaker B

I mean, that's.

Speaker B

That just seems.

Speaker B

And anyone who has had problems walking into that church, that's not a good environment for them.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker B

You know.

Speaker B

You know, there are people who can do that.

Speaker B

There are people I've talked to where their ministry is in a place where everyone they minister to has a potential problem with this.

Speaker B

And so for them, they can't even afford themselves the chance to be seen because they fear that.

Speaker B

Or the reality could be that if they are seen by any of the people they minister to drinking an alcoholic beverage, that could give that person a kind of license, it's okay because I've seen you doing it.

Speaker B

It's okay.

Speaker B

And you're a faithful leader.

Speaker B

So if you're doing it, I can do it.

Speaker B

And then it just opens up.

Speaker B

So, I mean, it's one of those things you just have to be, you know, proceed with caution.

Speaker A

One of our regular guests, Kevin, he.

Speaker A

He.

Speaker A

He was.

Speaker A

He and I were talking about it a week or two ago when he was here, when he was in town.

Speaker A

And the way that he does it is, like, until he gets to know somebody, he won't drink around him.

Speaker B

No, I'm.

Speaker A

Period.

Speaker A

Until.

Speaker A

Until he gets to know them, like.

Speaker A

And so I thought that was.

Speaker A

That's a really good.

Speaker A

I mean, that's a good first step, right?

Speaker A

Is to.

Speaker A

If you are someone who can handle the alcohol properly, right.

Speaker A

Just until you really get to know the person a little better, just don't.

Speaker A

I mean, that's a great way of doing it also, my college that I went to was a dry campus, so no alcohol.

Speaker A

If you got caught with alcohol or.

Speaker A

Or being drunk on campus 24 hours, get your stuff out.

Speaker A

Wow.

Speaker A

Yeah, they were really strict about it.

Speaker A

But if you were of age and you were off campus and you were drinking, as long as your character didn't come into question, they were okay.

Speaker A

Like, they wouldn't say anything.

Speaker A

But as soon as your character came into question, that were out there, that.

Speaker B

Sometimes enters the conversation.

Speaker B

Well, these things are legal.

Speaker B

Right.

Speaker B

Because it's not that they're doing anything that is illegal in most places.

Speaker B

So, you know, and you're right.

Speaker B

Like, if you are of the right proper age and mentality and you have the ability to go and do these things.

Speaker B

Yes.

Speaker B

And if you are responsible.

Speaker B

Yes.

Speaker B

Okay.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker B

You know, it's not.

Speaker B

Like I said, that's not a sin to.

Speaker B

As long as you're, you know, your head's in the right place and you're going about it the right way.

Speaker B

There was once a lady that got baptized and she went out with her family to celebrate afterwards and she had half a beer and she asked like, did I mess up?

Speaker B

I'm like, no, you didn't mess up.

Speaker B

You didn't mess up on the first day.

Speaker B

It's fine.

Speaker B

You know, like, I get it.

Speaker B

Like, because there's a lot of unknowns and there have been a lot of promotion from both sides that have mixed up the waters in that.

Speaker B

And so, I mean, I think the biggest two things is, like, can you handle it responsibly and.

Speaker B

Or can you not?

Speaker B

And is doing so going to be harmful to others around you, or is it not?

Speaker A

I also think it's important to note that getting drunk once is not being a drunkard.

Speaker B

No.

Speaker A

I think that that is an important thing because, like, it's easy for us to get in that guilt.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

And I just want anybody that doesn't abuse it, that has gotten drunk before to understand, like, that's not something you should feel guilty for, really.

Speaker A

I mean, that's.

Speaker A

That's a.

Speaker A

It happens, right?

Speaker A

Like, sometimes it happens, but it's the.

Speaker A

Whenever it's a habit, whenever you're going out for that sole purpose.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

Like, anytime you're going out to get drunk, that is.

Speaker A

That is a problem.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

But if it becomes part of life that you're getting drunk all the time, that's when.

Speaker A

That's when the labels, I think.

Speaker A

And I think that can be against.

Speaker A

Across the board for things.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

Like, you're not a liar.

Speaker A

Unless you're, that's part of your life.

Speaker A

You know, you're not a thief unless it's part of your life, you know, like you're not a drunkard unless that's a part of your life.

Speaker A

You're not a hypocrite unless you're constantly doing it.

Speaker A

Like it's, that's one of those things that when you, when you make one mistake.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

A lot of people just throw the label on you.

Speaker A

And that's, to me, that's ridiculous because to be a liar means that my whole life, it's, it's it that, that is a regular part of who I am.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

To be a hypocrite means I'm constantly saying things that you should be doing that I'm going against all the time.

Speaker A

Yeah, right.

Speaker A

Like it's not a one time mistake.

Speaker A

One thing happens kind of a situation for you to be able to get that label.

Speaker A

Yeah, same with Christianity.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

I mean, the label.

Speaker B

Yeah, people love their labels.

Speaker A

Oh my gosh, it's like, okay, just because you went to church doesn't make you a Christian.

Speaker B

Yeah, well.

Speaker B

And just because you make a mistake doesn't mean that you.

Speaker A

So okay, that's what I'm saying.

Speaker B

On one hand, yes, the Bible says we all fall short of the glory of God.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker B

But those redeemed, like, yeah.

Speaker B

If you've ever lied before, do you fall short?

Speaker A

Yes.

Speaker B

If you've ever stolen.

Speaker B

Absolutely.

Speaker B

Yep.

Speaker B

These are all things held against you.

Speaker B

But the blood of Christ received by you, when you make him lord of your life, that's your slate cleaner.

Speaker B

And you know, does that mean you're never going to make a mistake again?

Speaker B

I wish it were so.

Speaker B

I really do.

Speaker B

But oftentimes people are going to make mistakes.

Speaker B

Part of the sanctification journey is finding is helping us slowly become better.

Speaker B

But it doesn't necessarily mean that you're not going to fail here or there as part of your learning process.

Speaker A

And it cleanses the future stuff.

Speaker B

Oh yeah.

Speaker A

The moment you accept Christ, it cleanses you of the future mistakes too.

Speaker B

Because Christ didn't die just yesterday for you.

Speaker B

He died 2,000 years ago knowing that you were going to live now and have these things and your journey is going to be different than other people's journeys don't compare.

Speaker B

That's important.

Speaker B

But I mean, just last thing I would talk about when it comes to this is back to the idea of the why.

Speaker B

It's just so there is.

Speaker B

And it works with alcoholism or alcohol and it works with marijuana and works with all these other substances, it's the idolatry of it.

Speaker B

So if you.

Speaker B

And what it comes down to is the why.

Speaker B

If you're doing it.

Speaker B

Because it's.

Speaker B

You know, here's.

Speaker B

We're in a social situation.

Speaker B

This is our social norm, and everything's fine.

Speaker B

And like I said, you're not a problem.

Speaker B

It's not a problem for you.

Speaker B

It's not a problem for the people around you.

Speaker B

Okay?

Speaker B

However, if you're the kind of person that's chasing this for different reasons, this is your escape.

Speaker B

This is your release.

Speaker B

You can't live without this.

Speaker B

You can't have a good time without this.

Speaker B

And it's not entirely your fault, by the way.

Speaker B

Our entire society promotes alcohol at every event that you go to.

Speaker B

So it's ridiculous that it's enforcing the idea that in order to have a good time, you have alcohol.

Speaker B

I mean, think about it.

Speaker B

When.

Speaker B

If barbecue scenes is coming up, beer commercials are coming on telling you you're gonna need beer there.

Speaker B

But if you get in the mentality where you need this in your life, this is something that you go to to feel good, and it starts to replace God in your life, that's idolatry.

Speaker B

And that happens with any substance that you use.

Speaker B

You know, God is the foremost thing that we are to go to for everything, that we are to rely on him for ultimately, for our comfort, for our healing, for everything.

Speaker B

Does he give us ways to do so?

Speaker A

Yes.

Speaker B

Yes.

Speaker B

But if you are losing sight of God's place and you're replacing it with these other substances of any kind, then that becomes a problem.

Speaker A

Agreed.

Speaker A

Yep.

Speaker A

That is a good way to wrap that up.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

What are we going to talk?

Speaker A

What's our main topic today?

Speaker B

We're going to talk about people who come in the door of the church and how they're viewed.

Speaker A

Cool.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

Right on.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

Nice long opening.

Speaker A

Great.

Speaker A

It was a great opening.

Speaker A

You guys liked it?

Speaker A

Welcome to the truth response.

Speaker A

I'll pray today.

Speaker B

Okay, cool.

Speaker A

Lord, I just want to thank you for just being so awesome in our lives and for speaking to us in our wilderness that you take us through.

Speaker A

And, God, just thank you for showing up when we least expect it and when we do expect it.

Speaker A

God, I thank you for the love and the grace and the mercy that you show us how to just pour into others, God.

Speaker A

And I just pray that you lead this conversation wherever you'll have it.

Speaker A

And I pray that it doesn't fall on deaf ears, that whatever the people that are listening here is what you want them to Hear God.

Speaker A

And I pray that it just.

Speaker A

It changes lives.

Speaker A

I just.

Speaker A

I pray that you change.

Speaker A

Change lives here.

Speaker A

So thank you so much for the opportunity.

Speaker A

And it's in your precious and holy name we pray.

Speaker A

Amen.

Speaker B

Amen.

Speaker B

All right, so I got.

Speaker B

I had a listener send something to me.

Speaker B

It was a story on the Internet.

Speaker B

It's kind of the talking piece for today.

Speaker B

And I will read the story and then we can go from there.

Speaker B

It says, the pastor says they sit front and center, the gay boys.

Speaker B

Sometimes they hold hands.

Speaker B

And some folks have said he should address the issue, but the pastor tells me he doesn't know what to say.

Speaker B

There's a couple who are pregnant and not married walk in in shame.

Speaker B

And the father, a man of God, physically slaps her legs while she is having morning sickness.

Speaker B

And the boyfriend who is not willing to marry her is there.

Speaker B

But the pastor tells me he doesn't know what to say.

Speaker B

And then there's the man who sneaks in the back door fresh off the street after service starts and leaves before the altar call.

Speaker B

The people sitting close complain about how he smells of beer and smoke and sweat.

Speaker B

But the pastor tells me he doesn't know what to say.

Speaker B

And there's a young mama who wears dirty clothes and lets her four children come in and eat all the donuts and the drink all the watered down juice.

Speaker B

Some church staff say they eat like little pigs, like they haven't eaten in weeks, while mama just stands there and lets them.

Speaker B

And the elders say something must be done.

Speaker B

But the pastor tells me he doesn't know what to say.

Speaker B

And there's a horror sitting among the faithful.

Speaker B

And everybody knows her.

Speaker B

She sits with a painted up face, cheap perfume and a broken heart.

Speaker B

And those who sit close, well, they all treat her for what she.

Speaker B

They think she is.

Speaker B

At the last staff meeting, her name came up.

Speaker B

Something must be done about her.

Speaker B

But the pastor says he doesn't know what to say.

Speaker B

The pastor is a good man, holy and just.

Speaker B

And he just wants to do the right and loving thing.

Speaker B

He wants to look like Jesus.

Speaker B

And he asked me if I have any thoughts on anything he could say.

Speaker B

Yes, sweet pastor, I do.

Speaker B

Start with this and say it louder than any other words.

Speaker B

Welcome to church.

Speaker B

This is a place of love and hope and safety and forgiveness.

Speaker B

There will be food for the hungry, living water for the thirsty.

Speaker B

We are so glad you are here.

Speaker B

You are invited.

Speaker B

You are loved.

Speaker B

Come on in.

Speaker B

We've been waiting for you.

Speaker B

Welcome here.

Speaker B

We are the church.

Speaker B

I'll stop there, but that's pretty much, dude, like when.

Speaker A

Whenever.

Speaker A

Whenever you were saying that, he says, I don't know what to say, man.

Speaker A

That's my response to the people asking those questions and saying those things.

Speaker A

Like, I don't know what to tell you.

Speaker A

Like, you've got something wrong.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

Like, that's all those people that have the issue with those things.

Speaker A

Like, they have the heart issue because they're actively choosing to not be like Jesus.

Speaker B

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker B

And what a way to be comparing between you and another person.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker B

I would directly relate it to the story where Jesus is talking about the tax collector and the Pharisee.

Speaker B

And the Pharisee says, thank you, God, that I'm not like tax collector.

Speaker B

But tax collector says, lord, forgive me, I'm a sinner.

Speaker B

And he says that the tax collector goes home justified, not the Pharisee.

Speaker B

People have a tendency to think too highly of themselves and forget that they too need Jesus.

Speaker B

You know, they look at other people's situations with contempt.

Speaker B

It's just crazy.

Speaker B

And it's interesting, the different examples.

Speaker B

And I think it hits home on a lot of spaces.

Speaker A

You know, I like the multitude of different examples simply because we so often want to go to the gay example first in churches.

Speaker A

Like, that's the one we want to point out, I think, a lot of times.

Speaker A

And it's one of those, well, they're living in sin.

Speaker A

Well, okay, so are you.

Speaker A

What's your sin of choice?

Speaker A

You know, like, it's one of those things.

Speaker A

Like, I'm not saying it's okay, but I'm also not saying the person who is gluttonous, right?

Speaker A

Who's eating their life away is okay.

Speaker A

I'm not saying the person who's got a lying issue is okay.

Speaker A

I'm not saying the person with the pornography issue is okay.

Speaker A

I'm saying, like, we've all got things that we're living in, right?

Speaker A

That Jesus is.

Speaker A

He's can't clean the whole house at one time.

Speaker A

I don't know how many times I could say that, Right?

Speaker A

Like, you can't.

Speaker A

You cannot do it.

Speaker A

And so if that couple is working on trying to get one thing cleaned up, they may not have been called to get rid of that yet.

Speaker B

Yeah, that's a good point.

Speaker B

I've known a lot of people where there is something that they are doing that is not what we consider a good Christian thing to do in their life, and they are persisting in that, but they are still chasing Christ.

Speaker B

And people lose sight of that second part.

Speaker B

They are still chasing Christ.

Speaker B

And Christ has been teaching them and working on them, and there are other parts of their life that maybe he needed to fix first, if at all, with some of these things.

Speaker A

To be clear too, if we're trying to justify it through Bible, that's another issue.

Speaker A

We're talking something completely different at that point.

Speaker A

Because if that couple is like, well, actually the Bible justifies us living like this, okay, then we can have a conversation.

Speaker A

But if they're chasing after God.

Speaker A

Yeah, right.

Speaker A

And that just hasn't been the thing that's been there yet.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

Okay.

Speaker A

I mean, Jesus doesn't want us to clean ourselves up and then come to him.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

He says, come as you are, because he's big enough to cleanse all unrighteousness.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

And you know, it's funny, as I look over that list and I have known people like everybody on that list and I've seen people like everybody on that list in churches.

Speaker A

I might know somebody like that.

Speaker A

Everyone on that list that's been to this one.

Speaker B

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker B

Actually, I could think of a few that fit descriptions fairly.

Speaker B

And the thing about it is welcome is true.

Speaker B

I love it.

Speaker B

That's what you're here for.

Speaker B

You know, and I.

Speaker B

The one that hits me the most actually of all of them, like some of them are, it's the guy that sneaks in and sneaks out.

Speaker B

That guy, man.

Speaker B

My heart for that guy is, you know, and I know this, in this story.

Speaker B

It's a story, you know, as for an example.

Speaker B

But if I knew there was a guy that was doing that, oh my gosh, he would be my priority one.

Speaker B

You don't need to rush out, man.

Speaker B

Yeah, you, you come in.

Speaker B

I mean, look, you come in, you leave whenever you need, but you don't have to rush out.

Speaker B

You don't have to come in late.

Speaker B

This is your place.

Speaker B

Like, it is obvious.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

He might smell like alcohol or smoke or whatever.

Speaker B

But you are obviously here because you want to hear this message.

Speaker B

You are here because you want to hear a little bit of God.

Speaker B

You want to experience God.

Speaker B

And you're coming in the way you are because you're afraid of everyone else.

Speaker B

And how can we help you understand that you don't have to be afraid of us anymore.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

If you're listening to this and you're one of those people that's like, if I ever entered a church, place would burn down or catch fire or whatever, I'm here to tell you that's not going to happen.

Speaker A

That, that's just not how it works.

Speaker B

But I Have a friend that jokes about that, like, every time.

Speaker A

Yeah, I do, too.

Speaker A

And I've been trying to get him to come to just a regular Sunday morning, you know, like, whatever.

Speaker A

And he's talked about it.

Speaker A

He's talked about coming, like, on a Wednesday night or Sunday morning or just whatever, but just hasn't pulled the trigger yet.

Speaker A

I've even offered to buy him lunch or dinner or whatever, you know, so.

Speaker A

But offer still stands if you're listening.

Speaker A

Yeah, he'll listen to this, though, on occasion, so.

Speaker A

Which is great.

Speaker B

That's cool.

Speaker A

But, yeah, dude, like, that.

Speaker A

The homeless guy, right?

Speaker A

Like, that's who I envision.

Speaker B

Yeah, that's kind of the idea.

Speaker A

And like, that guy.

Speaker A

Like, I've seen this church wrap its arms around, oh, my goodness, yes, homeless.

Speaker B

People, and in ways that I've never seen before.

Speaker A

Absolutely fantastic.

Speaker A

And I.

Speaker A

One that hits really close to home with me on that list is those kids are being allowed to eat everything in our snack area.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

Like, yeah, I have heard that.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

Here.

Speaker A

And I've.

Speaker A

I've been a part of that conversation here.

Speaker A

I probably didn't handle it the way that I should have, but I also didn't think about it like that.

Speaker A

So that's really convicting, you know, like.

Speaker A

Yeah, that's totally a part of the whole thing, is that, you know what?

Speaker A

Who cares?

Speaker A

Jesus fed 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish.

Speaker B

We can feed a family.

Speaker B

Five.

Speaker A

We can feed a family of five cookies for days.

Speaker A

Like, Jesus will completely keep providing whatever it is that we're putting out there as long as we're feeding his sheep.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

I tell you what would be an interesting approach, and I think this church is actually pretty great at.

Speaker B

When I say this church, I don't mean, like, this building.

Speaker B

I mean, like, the people who make up this church.

Speaker B

And that's not just the people on staff, right?

Speaker A

Oh, yeah, right.

Speaker B

But the people whose hearts are in this church.

Speaker B

This church has a really great mindset on a lot of these things where if we saw someone where they're like, that, we might reach out to them and go, hey, do you guys need some stuff?

Speaker B

And we're the kind of people, like, maybe we need some extra snacks next week.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker B

You know, and it's almost one of these things.

Speaker B

Like, if your church is having a problem with this, maybe you should ask God to help you change your heart and also maybe start praying.

Speaker B

Lord, thank you for the opportunity that we had to give to these.

Speaker B

Help us give more and see how different things go for You.

Speaker B

I mean, a church that is willing to step up and be a little extra, helping to some families like that man, can make a huge difference.

Speaker B

You're giving them all.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker B

And a safe place.

Speaker A

I think of the example in Les Mis.

Speaker B

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A

Where the.

Speaker A

The.

Speaker A

This guy who was a prisoner for a long time gets released and is being followed by this warden who's just obsessed with him.

Speaker A

And he goes and stays at this priest's house, right?

Speaker A

And he gets up early in the morning and he steals a bunch of, like, the silver and stuff from the house, right?

Speaker A

And he's caught by this warden dude and brought to.

Speaker A

To back to the priest.

Speaker A

And the priest had every right to just be like, yeah, throw him back in jail.

Speaker A

But he was like, oh, you forgot.

Speaker A

Glad you came back.

Speaker A

You forgot the candle sticks and, you know, these things.

Speaker A

And he gave him even more than what the guy had stolen.

Speaker A

And the whole point of it is that.

Speaker A

That that situation offered that guy.

Speaker A

The whole story is about this.

Speaker A

Offered that guy the opportunity to change his life and make it better.

Speaker A

And he capitalized on doing so, even though the warden chased him forever, but completely revolutionized who he was.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

I love that.

Speaker B

You know, a lot of people in this world, we store up treasures for ourselves.

Speaker A

Oh, yeah.

Speaker B

But that's.

Speaker B

There's an example of taking the charger we have and using it to better another person.

Speaker B

That's kingdom work right there.

Speaker A

Yeah, that's amazing.

Speaker B

I love it.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

I mean, and so you got.

Speaker B

If there's a couple who is, you know, presumably in a gay relationship, and they're coming in, they're holding hands, first off, take the disgust off your face and look at the beauty of that situation.

Speaker B

Even if they are in a relationship that, biblically speaking, is not sound, they're bringing that relationship to the Lord.

Speaker A

It's true.

Speaker B

And together are in church.

Speaker A

Well.

Speaker A

And especially with the way that so many, quote, unquote, Christians have treated the gay community.

Speaker A

Like, the fact that they're willing to step in the doors, front row, too, notice it said front center is something that should be commended.

Speaker B

Yeah, that's brave.

Speaker A

So I'm just saying, like, it's one of those things that, like, I don't condone it, like, at all.

Speaker A

I'm not saying that it's an okay thing, but I think that you're completely right.

Speaker A

That is something to be like, way to go.

Speaker A

I took the first step.

Speaker A

This is amazing.

Speaker B

I think it's.

Speaker B

I think it's beyond amazing.

Speaker B

And I think that the best thing that anyone can do is ask a question very.

Speaker B

How can I help you in your next step with Jesus?

Speaker B

And not mention anything else.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

There will be a time.

Speaker A

There will be a time that.

Speaker A

That'll come up.

Speaker A

At some point.

Speaker A

It'll come up.

Speaker A

It's inevitable.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

And when it comes up, if you're treating them like Christ would treat them, then they'll either receive it or they won't.

Speaker A

And the only way for them to really have a good chance of receiving that message as if you're treating them like Christ would.

Speaker A

So, like, it'll come up.

Speaker A

You don't necessarily have to rush it right now.

Speaker A

I wouldn't elevate that person into leadership until they've gotten rid of that.

Speaker B

No, we don't do that even for unmarried couples.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

So, like, there are certain things that.

Speaker A

There are certain sins that have more consequence than others.

Speaker A

Now I'm talking in the here and now world, not necessarily the spiritual side of things.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

But some things are more visual.

Speaker A

Some things are more choice than they are.

Speaker A

Like, there's some people that don't believe addiction should be an addiction, but addictions are a thing.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

Like, if you're breaking them, it may not be overnight.

Speaker A

So that's one thing.

Speaker A

But it depends on what it is, too.

Speaker A

Like, if you're going out and getting drunk all the time, probably not going to put you in leadership.

Speaker A

You know, if you drink alcohol and you've gotten drunk before.

Speaker A

Okay.

Speaker A

So it happens, you know.

Speaker A

But if you're going out and getting drunk all the time.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Not going to promote you to leadership.

Speaker A

Just like if you're in a homosexual relationship and are unwilling to stop being in a homosexual relationship.

Speaker A

Not gonna promote your leadership.

Speaker A

Not kicking you out the doors, though.

Speaker B

No, no, no.

Speaker A

Never, Never.

Speaker B

This is totally your church.

Speaker B

Yeah, keep coming.

Speaker B

But, you know, there's.

Speaker B

But like I said, we have people who can tell that God's calling them.

Speaker B

But if they're in a.

Speaker B

If they're living in a relationship, man and woman living in the same house.

Speaker A

Yep.

Speaker B

All right.

Speaker B

Well, if you're not married, I would love.

Speaker B

I can tell God wants you to do this, but I need you.

Speaker B

You also need to fix this.

Speaker A

And it doesn't matter if you have kids or not.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

Like, even if you have kids together and you're not married, like.

Speaker A

Okay, yeah, the Bible is clear about this.

Speaker B

For some people, that.

Speaker B

That raises questions.

Speaker B

But, I mean, we need people to.

Speaker B

If you are going to step up and be an example, then be an example.

Speaker B

I did the same thing.

Speaker B

God called me when I was still dating my wife at the time.

Speaker B

We felt that it was going that way.

Speaker B

Our commitment was strong, but I could feel God calling me into ministry at the time.

Speaker B

They were all about it.

Speaker B

The church I was with was all about it.

Speaker B

But that was like, look, you know, you're gonna have to get this taken care of first.

Speaker B

And I was like, that's a good thing.

Speaker B

That's where this is going, you know, and it made it easy.

Speaker B

And there's a person I know now that's in that same place.

Speaker B

It's amazing.

Speaker B

The call on him is strong and it's great.

Speaker B

And they're in that very similar space, and they received that very well, where it's like, yeah, okay, well, that's exactly where this was going, so let's do it.

Speaker A

I mean, and it's not like.

Speaker A

So a lot of people get antsy about timing, right?

Speaker A

Like, well, they didn't go out and do it this weekend, so they're still living in sin.

Speaker A

Well, okay.

Speaker A

They're taking the steps to make that a thing, Right.

Speaker A

They're taking it seriously, even if it's three months later, four months later.

Speaker A

Like, some stuff just takes planning.

Speaker A

It took us six months to plan our wedding, right?

Speaker A

So, like, they're taking it seriously at that point.

Speaker A

And that's.

Speaker A

That's what you got to see, is that God also works on different people in different time frames.

Speaker B

Yeah, he worked on me in that time for sure, with a lot of different things.

Speaker B

Especially how.

Speaker B

Was.

Speaker B

Even how I was dating my wife.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Yeah, that's good.

Speaker A

Yeah, that's real good.

Speaker B

So, yeah, I mean, it's just how.

Speaker B

It's crazy still just going back to kind of almost kind of the beginning here.

Speaker B

But, like, how people who start to get on the path of following Christ suddenly feel like they can look at other people and start judging them, condemning them, condemning them, or also thinking as if they're more worthy than these other people.

Speaker A

That's what I mean by condemning, too.

Speaker B

It's wild.

Speaker B

It just blows my mind.

Speaker A

Right, Right.

Speaker A

And I do wanna.

Speaker A

I do wanna say, like, I think some people think that they are.

Speaker A

Are just holding people accountable.

Speaker A

And it's really gonna be all about presentation.

Speaker A

If you're in a place where you're like, well, I'm just trying to hold people accountable.

Speaker A

Okay, so think about how you presented that.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

Because it can be done well.

Speaker A

It should be done well.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

Like.

Speaker A

And there are certain situations where you're allowed to be.

Speaker A

Hold people accountable.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

Like, it's just a thing.

Speaker A

It's usually in relationship period.

Speaker A

Like, it's hard to hold somebody accountable that you don't know.

Speaker A

Yeah, right.

Speaker A

So you are very blessed if somebody allows you to hold them accountable that doesn't know you.

Speaker A

Yeah, right.

Speaker A

Like that.

Speaker A

That is a blessed situation, divine intervention, God thing.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

Because, I mean, dude, if I don't know you, like, who are you?

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

Like, what is this, like, you stepping into my area and you're trying to call me out on something.

Speaker A

Like, I don't know you from, you know, anybody.

Speaker A

So I think that's something that's important.

Speaker A

Is that, like, how.

Speaker A

How are you doing it?

Speaker A

What are you doing?

Speaker A

How are you going about calling people out?

Speaker A

Like, because it's not necessarily wrong.

Speaker A

Calling people out is not a bad thing.

Speaker A

It's.

Speaker A

It's definitely something that is.

Speaker A

We're called to do.

Speaker A

But it's after we get to know them, you know, like, once we get to know people, then we call them out.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

You know, then we start, like, allowing each other into each other's lives, and.

Speaker B

You start to walk into those spaces.

Speaker B

I think that's.

Speaker B

There's no rushing necessarily.

Speaker B

But once you can get into these new arenas of a relationship and these new spaces, and once you start to have those conversations, there are organic ways of entering into a space of conversation or a space of life where you can speak truth into this and go, well, this is it.

Speaker B

And this is with all kinds of things.

Speaker B

Hey, for instance, if the person has a problem with alcohol, if that's become their idol and you enter in a relationship, they're going to find yourself organically in a space where you can go, you know, dude, I got to be honest with you on this.

Speaker B

This is where this is at.

Speaker B

And from that point, you've entered into a relationship, they're seeing you not from a place of condemnation, but in a case and point of love.

Speaker B

Like, I love you, man, but I can't do this.

Speaker B

And because this is it, man.

Speaker B

I don't think you're looking at this right.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker B

You know, and there's a big difference from being able to talk in those situations than coming right at it.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker B

A lot of people want to go right for the jugular and look to a degree.

Speaker B

I get it.

Speaker B

I mean, why waste time, right?

Speaker B

But if you want to be heard, if you want people to be able to accept things, I mean, God does this with us.

Speaker B

God does not reveal all at once.

Speaker B

If he did, our heads would explode.

Speaker B

There are people, like, even ministers are continually learning and continually going deeper in our faith at Least we should be leaders like myself and Nick Antorn and Derek Tennant, who are pastors of the church.

Speaker B

We are constantly going deeper.

Speaker B

God is moving in our lives.

Speaker B

We see things that help us learn scripture, better know God, better deepen our faith.

Speaker B

We find new understandings.

Speaker B

People bring things to help enhance our lives all the time.

Speaker B

And for most part, we seek this out also.

Speaker B

But, you know, the relationship is going to be different if you're just coming in, if you're expecting people to get it all right away, that's crazy, because if you look at your pastor, you know, and I don't think I know everything just so, but if you look at.

Speaker B

If someone were to look at me and go, you know way more about the Bible than I do, yet you're the kind of person that's looking at them like they're getting it completely wrong.

Speaker B

But, like, look, dude, I don't know it all and neither do you.

Speaker B

And they're going to be in a long journey too.

Speaker B

Like, it might be a long time before they get to where you're at.

Speaker B

It could be a long time before they get.

Speaker B

And for some people, it's quicker.

Speaker B

For some people, it's longer.

Speaker B

But as long as we can continuously chase Jesus in the same direction, then we're doing something right.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker B

And to be able to provide those spaces for everyone on that list.

Speaker B

And we haven't even talked about the whore.

Speaker B

That's what they called her in the story, the whore.

Speaker B

Everybody knows who she is.

Speaker B

Okay.

Speaker B

Has anybody taken a step back and wondered how she got to that point in her life where that became something that she felt that she needed to get her?

Speaker B

You know, she hasn't realized yet, but now maybe she's going to church because she's starting to realize that her real identity is not in these relationships.

Speaker B

Her real worth is not in those experiences.

Speaker B

It's in God.

Speaker B

And how can you help her embrace that truth so that she can let go of these other things?

Speaker A

Yeah, my grandma used to sing a song all the time.

Speaker A

Looking for love in all the wrong places.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

And that doesn't just speak to that person.

Speaker B

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A

Like, if you're looking for love anywhere but Jesus, you're looking in the wrong place.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

And so, like, you do have to take that sociological approach, right?

Speaker A

With.

Speaker A

With each person, like, okay, where.

Speaker A

Where are they coming from?

Speaker A

What got them to this point?

Speaker A

Because that's.

Speaker A

That's how doctors should even work, right?

Speaker B

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A

It's like, what, okay, why are you sick?

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

Like, what got you to this point, because if they're not looking at that, then you're not.

Speaker A

There's not going to be healing, right?

Speaker A

There's not going to be healing.

Speaker A

Unless.

Speaker A

Unless.

Speaker A

Unless they're looking at.

Speaker A

Why did you get to this point?

Speaker A

You know, it's the holistic approach, right?

Speaker B

You know, it's actually, it's that, it's, it's amazing.

Speaker B

But like, see, that's the thing.

Speaker B

That's the advantage God has over us.

Speaker B

Thank God he does.

Speaker B

Because that's what I think.

Speaker B

I mean, to me, you could call this speculation, but I mean, I believe that's what helps him be more patient with all of us and long suffering with us, me included.

Speaker B

Where he saw the bigger picture.

Speaker B

And he does.

Speaker B

He sees the bigger picture with every single one of us.

Speaker B

He sees not just where we are, but how we got there.

Speaker B

And he also knows exactly how we need to be poured into to get us out.

Speaker B

And that's with any mess in life.

Speaker B

The Lord can get you through anything.

Speaker B

The old adage, God will give you never more than you can handle.

Speaker B

Well, maybe.

Speaker B

Or he might never give you more than you can handle with him because he can handle anything.

Speaker B

So are you looking to yourself?

Speaker B

Are you looking to Him?

Speaker B

The more we can help people look to themselves, look to Jesus as compared to themselves, as compared to these other vices or whatever it is that has gotten them into these messes.

Speaker B

The better off they're going to be, no matter what.

Speaker A

I mean, the Lord will absolutely give you more than you can handle, 100%.

Speaker B

But it's not more than he can.

Speaker A

Right, Right.

Speaker A

Yeah, yeah, I know.

Speaker A

That's what I'm saying.

Speaker A

That whole thing is like.

Speaker A

That statement just kills me nowadays.

Speaker A

I'm not going to say I didn't used to say that, but I used.

Speaker B

To say it before.

Speaker A

But then I put away childish ways at some point.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

I mean, that's because you grow.

Speaker A

That's what I mean.

Speaker A

As I grew and matured in my faith, I realized, okay, no, that is absolutely what God does all the time.

Speaker A

Because he wants us to fully rely on Him.

Speaker A

It's in our weakness that his strengths show up and shine through.

Speaker A

And so absolutely does he put us in situations that we could never handle ourselves.

Speaker A

Yeah, right.

Speaker A

Like my whole, my whole wilderness walk right now.

Speaker A

I A, would have, would have never done this myself.

Speaker A

B, there's no way I would even know what to do unless he got me to a place where it was in his strength that I was humbled and I was able to like, just hands Open with whatever people want to teach me with whatever.

Speaker A

Like, that has not been who I've been like most of my life.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

And so not that I don't have some humility, but just the fact that, like, I'm open to learning whatever, like I'm open to being wrong.

Speaker A

I'm open to new knowledge.

Speaker A

I'm open to all of that, you know, and so like in his strength the whole way, right?

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

And I was even talking the other day to somebody.

Speaker A

I don't remember who I was talking to.

Speaker A

It could have been any number of people.

Speaker A

Probably had the conversation with several people.

Speaker A

Just the fact that, like, I've been in this place where it's like, okay, God, like I'm pressing through.

Speaker A

I'm pressing on in all this.

Speaker A

I'm seeing no money, right.

Speaker A

I've got no income coming in for, you know, my.

Speaker A

Through through my business.

Speaker A

I've spent plenty of money on materials and all of that.

Speaker A

And I just, I'm seeing nothing.

Speaker A

And then like.

Speaker A

But I know, I know that God's got this.

Speaker A

I know that God's got something in mind.

Speaker A

It's clear that he's, you know, been leading this whole thing.

Speaker A

And so, like, I.

Speaker A

I'm just relying on him to do the thing as I'm pressing forward.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

And today, I mean, today and yesterday just was.

Speaker A

There's.

Speaker A

They start throwing this stuff at me, right?

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

So like a hundred percent.

Speaker A

Does he give us things that we can't handle ourselves?

Speaker B

Oh, yeah.

Speaker B

But you know what?

Speaker B

He also allows us to make mistakes.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Oh, yeah.

Speaker B

You know, and that's another area that I think people get so hard hearted about.

Speaker B

For instance, go.

Speaker B

Let's go back to the guy that just briefly, that was, you know, potentially.

Speaker B

Maybe he was a homeless guy, right?

Speaker B

Yeah, potentially.

Speaker A

I mean, probably.

Speaker A

It sounds like it, but probably.

Speaker B

We don't have all the details, but it sounds familiar anyway.

Speaker B

Some people look at people like that and they don't have any pity for them at all, you know, and here's the kinds of things they say.

Speaker B

They say things like, well, they made.

Speaker B

They're the ones that made all the decisions.

Speaker B

They made all the wrong decisions.

Speaker B

They dug this grave.

Speaker B

That's where they belong to go, okay.

Speaker B

And you know what?

Speaker B

You're in completely.

Speaker B

Right.

Speaker B

However, who are you to keep them there?

Speaker A

Right, Right.

Speaker A

By treating them like that, all you're doing is saying, I don't care about you.

Speaker B

It's wow, the amount of contempt you have for another life at that point.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

You know what you're Right.

Speaker B

You did go out and you did get work, and you did do all the things you need to do.

Speaker B

And, yeah, you worked hard and you have a job and you have a house and you have a car and you have a family and you're paying your bills.

Speaker B

And that person did everything wrong.

Speaker B

Everything wrong they did.

Speaker B

And now they're in that spot.

Speaker B

But is it about keeping them there or continuing to find a way to help them find a way out?

Speaker A

The question to that person is, how does it feel to be the older brother?

Speaker A

Oh, yeah, Right.

Speaker A

Like, oh, yeah, this dude's the prodigal son, right?

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

This dude is coming.

Speaker A

He knows he's.

Speaker A

He's in a bad place.

Speaker A

He knows he's not where he's supposed to be.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

Until now, he's walked in the doors that he's supposed to, but, like, he knows that he's done all of the things wrong.

Speaker A

I promise every single homeless person I've ever met, when they're not actually high at the time or drunk at the time, knows that what they're doing and what they've done that has led them to the place that they're at is not good.

Speaker A

It's not good for them.

Speaker A

But at some point, they stop caring, but they know that it's not good.

Speaker A

So the fact that they've walked in the door, that's who that person is.

Speaker A

That's who Jesus is talking about, is that person.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

So the person who's like, they've made all the bad choices.

Speaker A

I've worked my butt off to do everything that I can right the correct way.

Speaker A

And this person comes in like, welcome to being the older brother.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

You know, and the thing is that.

Speaker B

Here's the honest thing about it is, you know, for both people, without Jesus, you are just as far away from the kingdom of God 100%.

Speaker B

You've made any mistake in your life.

Speaker B

You are just as far away from the kingdom of God as this man is making all the mistakes you claim that he's made.

Speaker B

But God gave you a way out, and he gives them a way out.

Speaker B

And so why do you think yourself that better that you deserve a way out and he doesn't?

Speaker B

Why?

Speaker B

Because this guy made a couple mistakes.

Speaker B

You've made mistakes, too.

Speaker A

When you chose Jesus, the feast was just as big.

Speaker B

Yes.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

Like, that's the thing, is that people forget that the feast is the same.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

We're here to build the people up.

Speaker B

We need to.

Speaker B

There's so much emphasis in our society of getting yours right.

Speaker B

And it's we.

Speaker B

We've lost that bit of compassion for our fellow person, for our neighbor.

Speaker B

You know, it reminds me of the movie It's a Wonderful Life from Christmas Time.

Speaker A

Never seen it.

Speaker B

You've never seen it?

Speaker B

Oh, my gosh.

Speaker A

So I've never seen A Christmas Story either, so.

Speaker B

Well, Wonderful Life is a lot different, but I'm just saying it's a classic and you can see it in color and in black and white.

Speaker B

Either way, it's the awesome.

Speaker B

I watched both.

Speaker B

It's a really amazing story, and it's around Christmas time.

Speaker B

My wife and I try to watch it.

Speaker B

I think we didn't watch it this year, which is kind of a shame, but it was a crazy year.

Speaker B

That being said, it's amazing because the main character is a guy who has these aspirations and things that he'd love to do with his life, but is willing to put himself second repeatedly for the betterment of the people around him.

Speaker B

And that's family.

Speaker B

That's the people down the street.

Speaker B

He takes chances.

Speaker B

He believes in people, lifting people up and giving them chances to survive and thrive.

Speaker B

And he put his whole community before himself.

Speaker B

And the basis of the movie.

Speaker B

And you haven't seen it, and this is spoiler alert, but you've had plenty of time.

Speaker B

This is older than you.

Speaker A

No, it's fine.

Speaker B

But, like, the basis of the movie is the guy gets to a point where he meets this angel and is like, I wish I was never born at all.

Speaker B

And angel is like, all right, you want to see what the world looks like without you?

Speaker B

There you go.

Speaker B

And so he goes and he gets a glimpse of what life would have been like if he had not been there, if someone without his compassion and his love for his fellow person had not been there.

Speaker B

And the world he sees is terrible.

Speaker B

I mean, absolutely terrible.

Speaker B

Unrecognizable.

Speaker B

And that's the thing.

Speaker B

That's the difference one person can make.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker B

When they're willing to go outside of themselves.

Speaker B

And the thing is, then at the end of the movie, what's amazing is that his community comes around him, saves his situation.

Speaker B

You know, he's given everything, and now they give it all back and, you know, show him how loved and how appreciated and how much he's meant to their whole community by all showing up.

Speaker B

And it's.

Speaker B

It's a beautiful movie.

Speaker B

It's so beautiful.

Speaker B

You know, you can't go through that movie through a theological point of view.

Speaker B

And actually, it doesn't have to be a Christmas movie.

Speaker B

It just happens to be based Around Christmas time.

Speaker B

So you can watch it any time of the year, and it still holds up.

Speaker B

It's a great movie when it comes to the compassion and love and putting others first and what that is, what a difference it makes in the world, it is stupendous.

Speaker B

The person that wrote it was brilliant.

Speaker B

And you can tell, wanted to make a message that would be lasting, Lasting.

Speaker B

And I love it so much just for that reason.

Speaker B

Like, you get caught up in the fact, and it's wild because as you're going on the journey, you just see this guy constantly not being able to do what he wants to do, yet somehow still getting through until he feels like he's just got nothing left to give.

Speaker B

And that's when the world gives back.

Speaker B

And it's an amazing thing.

Speaker B

I loved it so much.

Speaker A

So, yeah, maybe I'll check it out.

Speaker A

Maybe I'll.

Speaker B

That's the kind of person we all know.

Speaker A

Probably not till Christmas.

Speaker B

How can you look at the people around you with more compassion?

Speaker B

These people, all those people in that story, if you start with compassion, to know that they are loved by our Creator.

Speaker B

Just as he loves you.

Speaker B

He loves you no more.

Speaker B

He loves them no more.

Speaker A

But.

Speaker B

But the fact that you were loved together, you both were broken and fallen together.

Speaker B

And if you have found your way out, you can reach back and lift them out of that pit and help them move forward, too.

Speaker B

That's the compassion that God loves, wants us to have.

Speaker B

That's the love that we will be known as his forgiving.

Speaker A

Yeah, that's good.

Speaker B

The preacher in me is coming out now.

Speaker A

Sorry.

Speaker A

I immediately thought of nature, boy.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

Could have been preacher.

Speaker A

He could get saved still.

Speaker B

That would be amazing.

Speaker A

There's still space for him.

Speaker B

Hulk Hogan got saved.

Speaker B

He can get.

Speaker A

I know.

Speaker A

Undertaker.

Speaker B

Undertaker.

Speaker A

There's a regular church attender.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

In fact, Hogan.

Speaker A

Hogan on.

Speaker B

Shawn Michaels on.

Speaker A

Yep.

Speaker A

Shawn Michaels.

Speaker A

I think that was part of what got him clean from.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

Alcohol and all that.

Speaker A

But Hogan early.

Speaker A

It was.

Speaker A

I think it was 2020.

Speaker A

Did.

Speaker A

Did Joe Rogan.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

He was on there with Joe.

Speaker A

It might have been later than 2020.

Speaker A

And he started talking about his faith a little bit.

Speaker A

And Joe Rogan said something kind of off.

Speaker A

I mean, normally he doesn't.

Speaker A

But I think it was a misunderstood.

Speaker A

He didn't mean for it to sound like it did.

Speaker A

And Hogan was like, are you gonna let me talk about this?

Speaker A

Because if not, we're in, we're done, we're gonna end here.

Speaker A

I just thought it was the coolest thing because, like, you don't think of Hogan as a Jesus lover, but, like, the fact that he was, like, telling the biggest podcaster in the entire world, like, hey, yo, I don't.

Speaker A

I don't care who.

Speaker A

How many followers you got.

Speaker A

I don't care who's watching.

Speaker A

I don't.

Speaker A

I don't care.

Speaker A

Any of that.

Speaker A

We're done now.

Speaker A

If you're not gonna let me talk about my faith.

Speaker A

It was cool.

Speaker B

Yeah, that's pretty awesome.

Speaker A

So there's still room for everybody in heaven?

Speaker A

Everybody that wants it?

Speaker A

Well, there's room for you.

Speaker B

Scripture tells us it's not God's will or desire for anyone to not be saved.

Speaker B

He wants us all in there with him.

Speaker B

But, you know, it's one of the things people ask me about that.

Speaker B

It's like, you know, but why would he then condemn people to hell?

Speaker B

It's like, no, no, no, no, you don't understand.

Speaker B

We have already done that.

Speaker B

We've condemned ourselves to hell, but we have the choice to get ourselves out.

Speaker B

And how we do that is by accepting Jesus Christ.

Speaker B

We have the ability to accept him and what he's willing to gift us or reject God.

Speaker B

And that's how it happens.

Speaker A

Stop over complicating it.

Speaker A

Stop over complicating it.

Speaker A

The person in Africa who's never heard of Jesus, what does God have to do?

Speaker A

I don't know.

Speaker A

But guess what?

Speaker A

God's bigger than all of that.

Speaker A

He's already thought that out, and he's fully just.

Speaker A

So whatever it is that he has for that, maybe he gets an exception because he tried to live as close to that as possible, and he knew that he couldn't make it there on his own.

Speaker A

He knew that he made mistakes, that there was a higher power, who knows, right?

Speaker A

Like, freaking.

Speaker A

Stop over complicating things and just trust that God is just.

Speaker A

And that he's going to treat everybody with love, because that's who he is.

Speaker B

And if you're really convicted about that person on the other side of the world and you're like, what about him?

Speaker B

He doesn't have a Bible.

Speaker B

He has nobody telling.

Speaker A

Okay, maybe that's your call.

Speaker B

You got a Bible.

Speaker B

You know these things.

Speaker B

You go, right, Maybe you're being called.

Speaker A

To be a missionary.

Speaker A

I'm so tired of hearing that, dude.

Speaker A

Oh, it's so tired of hearing.

Speaker A

So, yes, that if.

Speaker A

If you're that person, you either need to check yourself or you need to become a missionary.

Speaker A

That's.

Speaker A

That's where it's at, right?

Speaker B

That's it.

Speaker B

We talked about that last time.

Speaker A

We did talk about that last time.

Speaker A

Oh, man.

Speaker A

Today's been a rock star of a day.

Speaker A

I'm living on a mountaintop, dude.

Speaker B

10 years.

Speaker A

Five years.

Speaker A

I can't say 10 years.

Speaker A

My daughter was born.

Speaker A

Yeah, okay.

Speaker B

Five years ago.

Speaker A

And then before that I got married to the greatest woman in the world.

Speaker A

So, yeah, probably in the last five years though, like, it's probably been the greatest day.

Speaker A

Like, it's just because God is so good, right?

Speaker A

Like, God is blessing me.

Speaker B

10 years has been redacted.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Not 10 years.

Speaker A

I, I over exaggerated.

Speaker B

I got you.

Speaker B

Yeah, that's awesome.

Speaker B

I'm so happy for you, man.

Speaker A

Yeah, no, it was good.

Speaker A

It was a great day and today was just as good.
