My chest is so sore, like, right in here.
Speaker AIt's that, you know, like.
Speaker AAnd I guess I just didn't realize, like, how much you use those muscles, you know, like, just in walking around.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BIt's.
Speaker BIt's weird.
Speaker BSo it's a strange sensation because, you know you're getting stronger because you're using those muscles.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BBecause you can feel your muscles.
Speaker BAs a guy, we have this thing in our head where it's like, okay, now we feel like we can lift everything.
Speaker BWe're gonna.
Speaker BYou know, like we're becoming superheroes.
Speaker BAnd then at the same time, it's like, no, we're weaklings.
Speaker AWell, I told Clint yesterday after, you know, getting all pumped and working out and everything, I was like, I just want to hit something.
Speaker BI just want to go.
Speaker AI just want to hit something.
Speaker BYou almost want somebody to mess with you in the story, you know, I've been working out.
Speaker AIt's perfect opportunity to hit someone.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BThat's bad.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker APlease hit me so I can.
Speaker AI can utilize this newfound adrenaline rush.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BWhen I was actively.
Speaker BI probably should train again, because I used to be in incredible shape.
Speaker BBut when I was actively training, I would get through a day of just.
Speaker BSo there's a period before your muscles really hurt, you know, where there's that.
Speaker BI would go to the gym, and I would just really work it.
Speaker BLots of cardio, get my arms done, get my legs done.
Speaker BI would always do a full body.
Speaker BThere was never just arms day.
Speaker BIt was always had legs, if I'm doing arms and all that stuff.
Speaker BAnd I was always working on my core, and I would get, like, a really great workout to the point where, like, you're, like, shaking, and as soon as my body kind of relaxed and, like, there's that in between period where.
Speaker AYou just feel like a million dollars.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd, like.
Speaker BBut you feel.
Speaker BYou know, you feel like the Flash.
Speaker BLike, let's go.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AYeah, totally.
Speaker BIt is.
Speaker AYou feel like a million dollars for real.
Speaker ALike, yeah, yesterday.
Speaker AAnd that.
Speaker AThat also, like, yesterday was just so good because coming off of that, I.
Speaker AI got gas for 33 cents cheaper than I did could anywhere else at Walmart.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ALike, it was 33 cents cheaper than any of the other gas stations.
Speaker ASo that led right into that excitement because, like, 33 cents is a big deal.
Speaker ALike, 10 cents.
Speaker AOkay, whatever.
Speaker A33.
Speaker AThat's a lot, you know, so I'll save you at least.
Speaker AWhat?
Speaker BA lot?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AEspecially if filling up five bucks.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker B33 cents for my truck is a giant amount of Money, right?
Speaker ASo, yeah, so then, like.
Speaker AThen I went out to eat with Lizzy, right?
Speaker ASo that was good lunch.
Speaker ALike a little lunch date, which we just talked.
Speaker ATalked and hung out, scored that stuff.
Speaker AAnd it's just like.
Speaker AEverything was just like, oh, right off of that.
Speaker AThat.
Speaker AThat pump, that feeling, that good feeling.
Speaker BYou know, and that endorphins.
Speaker BThat's what it is when you're.
Speaker BWhen you're just living.
Speaker AI rode the endorphins all day today, too.
Speaker AExcept last night I thought we were being invaded by aliens.
Speaker ANo joke.
Speaker AI was outside smoking a cigar, playing dnd, and I kid you not, I've got the cigar in this hand and something hits me in the hand and lands on this makeshift table that I've made, right?
Speaker AAnd I'm like, what is that?
Speaker AAnd so I get my flashlight out, and the best way I could describe the thing was it was like the front end was like a reptile type creature and the back end was some sort of, like, bug type creature, right?
Speaker AAnd it was about an inch.
Speaker AInch and a half.
Speaker AI was probably an inch and a half long, right?
Speaker ALike, it was.
Speaker AIt was every bit of that.
Speaker AI was freaked all kinds out.
Speaker AAnd I tried to take a picture, but as I was trying to take a picture, when the flash happened, it ran at me and I just, like, screamed.
Speaker AAnd, like, I'm throwing my headphones across the table, you know, we're trying to play D and D.
Speaker AAnd I wasn't trying to squish it.
Speaker AI was just trying to figure out what it was.
Speaker ACome to find out, I was terrified, too.
Speaker ACome to find out, it's called a mole cricket.
Speaker BOh, I gotta look up a picture of this now.
Speaker ADude.
Speaker AFreaking thing.
Speaker BI wonder if I've seen it.
Speaker AIt's, like, terrifying when you see them in person.
Speaker AThey are not harmful to people or animals, but they are terrifying.
Speaker BYeah, Yeah, I know.
Speaker ALet me see.
Speaker ALet me see that.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker AWhich one do you pull up?
Speaker BI pull up this thing.
Speaker AOh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker ADude.
Speaker AEspecially at night in the dark, trying to, like, see this thing with, like, a flashlight.
Speaker AOh, my gosh, dude.
Speaker AYeah, it was terrifying.
Speaker AI.
Speaker AI jumped out of my skin.
Speaker BThey are about an inch and a half.
Speaker AYeah, I know, because I'm describing this thing.
Speaker AI'm like.
Speaker AI'm all kinds of freaked out, right?
Speaker ABecause it disappears under my chair.
Speaker ALike, I don't know.
Speaker AIt was.
Speaker ABut once I figured out what it was, it was like, okay, yeah, that's not as bad.
Speaker AI'm not even worried about it getting inside now.
Speaker AIt's like, but yeah, dude, it freakin looks like some kind of like reptile front end with a bug back end.
Speaker ALike, it was just like, we're being invaded.
Speaker AI don't know what this is.
Speaker AYou know, like, that's great.
Speaker BMole kick.
Speaker BOh, wait, hold on.
Speaker BThey're not known to bite.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker AYeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker BI had to look because it was like they eat.
Speaker AThey eat the roots of plants and so they're bad for your, you know, trees and plants and all that sort of thing.
Speaker BBut well, see, like, I realized that now Google is made for the ADHD that just want to follow the dopamine because you'll Google something and then it'll have like all these suggested searches.
Speaker BI looked up molecule and it was like cricket byte.
Speaker BI now need to see what this is about.
Speaker AYou click it and it's like, oh, no, they're not known to bite or whatever.
Speaker ABut yeah.
Speaker BOh my gosh, all the suggested, like, questions I get wrapped.
Speaker BI spend way too much time reading.
Speaker BLike, if I see them, you know, I can't help myself.
Speaker BI'm always clicking things just to be what's this about then?
Speaker BWhat's this about?
Speaker BAnd I, I will spend I in a moment where I was like, I'll just google it real quick and see what this is about.
Speaker BNext thing you know, I've spent 25 minutes just because I see something else.
Speaker BI'm like, well, what's that then?
Speaker BWhat's this?
Speaker BWhat does that mean?
Speaker BYou know?
Speaker BOr I'll find a whole different thing.
Speaker AYeah, yeah.
Speaker BI was doing research for a sermon one time and I thought, well, maybe a good analogy.
Speaker BAnd I didn't end up using it, but I said, maybe a good analogy would be vehicles.
Speaker BYou know, it's something I know a lot about.
Speaker BI had some ideas and I thought I'd Google some things just to kind of see if I would back up what I wanted to do or not.
Speaker BAnd I spent another 25 minutes looking at like, the best, most reliable cars.
Speaker BThe worst cars.
Speaker BLike, what are the.
Speaker BThat was what really got me.
Speaker BLike, what are the cars that people are saying are the worst ones to have?
Speaker AGoogle knows you, though.
Speaker ALike, Google knows what.
Speaker AWhat you want.
Speaker AYeah, right.
Speaker AAnd so, like, as soon as you type something in, it's like, all right, I understand how this dude thinks.
Speaker AHere is all the things that he's gonna want to do, right?
Speaker ALike, it's all clickbait.
Speaker AAll of it's clickbait, right?
Speaker ALike, if all of it, if I.
Speaker BHave nothing to do with my Time.
Speaker BI should just open up Google.
Speaker BIt's odd, but that's.
Speaker BI could do it that way.
Speaker BOr, like, that's why YouTube is, like, bad for me.
Speaker BBecause if I open up YouTube and just start following videos, it's amazing the kind of time I'll spend watching stuff I didn't realize I was ever gonna watch.
Speaker AI catch myself clicking on a new page in Chrome just so I can read the headlines, right?
Speaker AAnd then I'm like, this is all clickbait.
Speaker AAll of this is clickbait.
Speaker AAll of it.
Speaker BYeah, but I mean, I.
Speaker AIf you go to any of the articles, it's all ads.
Speaker ALike, it's all ads.
Speaker AAnd, you know, that's just.
Speaker AI mean, it's.
Speaker AIt's junk.
Speaker BBut I can't help myself, though, because when I.
Speaker BWhen I see it, I'm like, I'm gonna see.
Speaker BWhat is this?
Speaker AOh, yeah, yeah.
Speaker BAnd they know it.
Speaker BGoogle has its algorithms, know that Matt can't help himself.
Speaker BAnd it's going to.
Speaker BIt's.
Speaker BIt's bad.
Speaker AAll right, so what's going on, guys?
Speaker AI think that you've probably tuned into this whole conversation.
Speaker AThis is great.
Speaker AI don't feel like.
Speaker BI feel like we should just keep most.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ASo what's up, guy?
Speaker BI'm Matt.
Speaker AI'm Derek.
Speaker BAnd we've been talking about nonsense, but hopefully it's been amusing to you, right?
Speaker BI have no.
Speaker BWhen I go to edit this, I can't wait to see, like, where I'm gonna start this, because it'll be unorthodox, but it's gonna be awesome.
Speaker AYeah, it'll be good.
Speaker AWe're trying some new things with, like, how we are starting off.
Speaker AAnd so the very first thing we're gonna do now, I guess it's not the first thing because we've already done stuff, but I got a question from the random box.
Speaker BWe love the random box.
Speaker AWe do love the random box.
Speaker AYou guys seem to love the random box.
Speaker ASo here is the question for today.
Speaker AWe're gonna kick it off, then we'll pray after we have a short discussion and kick it into our actual topic.
Speaker ASo, okay, when you consider Christian teachings, what is your view on consuming alcohol?
Speaker BOh.
Speaker BOh, okay.
Speaker BI can do that.
Speaker BI got this.
Speaker BWell, I mean, from my perspective.
Speaker BOkay, so my view on consuming alcohol, I think the Bible makes it very clear that Americans got it right.
Speaker ANo, the Bible states that Americans are.
Speaker BSo.
Speaker BNo, actually.
Speaker BSo the Bible does make it very clear that to be a drunkard is a problem.
Speaker ABut how would you define drunkard?
Speaker AJust so that we can be clear.
Speaker BA drunkard is not someone that goes and has.
Speaker BIt's a problem.
Speaker BBasically.
Speaker BA problem with alcohol can be defined in a couple different things.
Speaker BAnd in today's world, we know it can be different things.
Speaker BSome people just have a problem with alcohol.
Speaker BThe idea is that if you are enjoying a glass with dinner, or obviously when they did communion or anything like that, to have a glass with what you're eating or something, that's not sinful in itself.
Speaker BBut if you chase that alcohol feeling, if that's what you're doing, if you keep trying to use it, to use it to escape, if you can't have a good time unless you have alcohol, or if you just want to get tipsy and drunk, and that's how you do it.
Speaker BI had a friend at one point said to me, when I drink alcohol, I drink to get drunk.
Speaker BThat's what I do it for.
Speaker BAnd I'm like, yeah, so that's being a drunkard.
Speaker BWhen you.
Speaker BOr today we know that there's people, we call it a disease of alcoholism where they can't be around it because once their body gets a taste of it, they just chase that until it leads to destruction.
Speaker BAnd so, yeah, there's a difference between, in today's society, like enjoying a beer, glass of wine or whatever, to have one with your dinner or friends, that's not a sinful nature.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BBut if you are doing it and then you start chasing these other means.
Speaker BAnd so people also.
Speaker BI'll take this a step further.
Speaker BPeople ask about it when it comes to other substances as well, even things that are legal, because where I'm from in Maryland, you know, they legalized marijuana and they.
Speaker BSo people were like, what does the Bible say about this?
Speaker BI said, it doesn't say anything specifically about the plant.
Speaker BBut I will say this.
Speaker BIt does say something about being intoxicated.
Speaker BBut the question then arises, why are you doing this?
Speaker BYou know what I mean?
Speaker BIt's one thing, like I said, if you do it, because we're going to have a glass of wine with dinner and everything's under control and everything's good and this isn't a problem for you.
Speaker BOkay, that's fine.
Speaker BAlso, if you're not causing someone else to stumble is another important thing to keep under consideration.
Speaker BSo, for instance, if you know that the person that you're having for dinner has a problem with alcohol, it's probably good practice not to have a drink.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BYou know, and if they're a good company where not.
Speaker BNot to Say that someone that has a trouble with alcohol is bad company.
Speaker BI don't want to make sure that I don't say anything that people misunderstand.
Speaker BIf they're the kind of person that can handle it just fine, there's no problems.
Speaker BOkay, that's fine.
Speaker BBut if there is, if it's a stumbling block for them, if it opens them up to a world of hurt or, you know, you don't want to do that, you don't want to cause people to stumble, so you got to watch how you do your actions there as well.
Speaker BThat's important.
Speaker BBut if you cross that line, then.
Speaker BAnd then you are doing it and it causes someone hurt or stumbling, or you are now becoming a drunkard, or you're abusing it and you're chasing it for more than just enjoying a glass, that then, yeah, that's a problem.
Speaker BAnd so the Bible speaks against that.
Speaker BNow, people use certain verses out of context, like make sure you're of alert and sober mind, which has more to do with making sure that you're following Christ and looking at the world the correct way through him than it has with anything else.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BBut so just to clarify those.
Speaker AAnd sober mind, even though even that, like the word sober can be used for so much.
Speaker BSo much.
Speaker ABut I mean, even just like, just not even substance, right?
Speaker ALike you can have a mind that is not sober because of your way of thought.
Speaker BNow, I will say that, I mean, alcohol is also one of those substances that because it is so easily abused and because it can be damaging to certain people, it's one of those things that you have to proceed with caution because of the dangers it imposes and health risks and because so many people have issues with it.
Speaker BThat's why we have to have these kinds of laws in place.
Speaker BThe Prohibition era was a reaction to people steadily abusing alcohol in extreme ways.
Speaker BAnd society started going, well, this must be the issue.
Speaker BIt's actually not that dissimilar to gun law, stuff like that, where it's like, well, it's not the gun.
Speaker BIt's not necessarily inherently the alcohol, but it is the person with the alcohol.
Speaker BAnd so there's ways we have to be able to navigate that.
Speaker BChurch history actually shows that.
Speaker BI mean, making of alcoholic beverages is one of the oldest pastimes.
Speaker BAnd church history is full with ministries that over the whole history of the church that used brewing to help fund the church where they, like Martin Luther.
Speaker AEverything from wine to.
Speaker BAnd beer.
Speaker BBeer was a big thing.
Speaker BWine was a big thing.
Speaker BBeer was a big thing.
Speaker BIn fact, I think Martin Luther's wife brewed beer.
Speaker BIt was a big part of his ministry and funding it.
Speaker BAnd so.
Speaker BBut it's all within restraint if you're out there and you're abusing it or if it becomes something.
Speaker BFor instance, I was in a church one time, and I won't say what church it was or anything more than that, but it was a church denomination that believed that.
Speaker BThey believed that God wanted us to enjoy life here.
Speaker BThat was the basis of it.
Speaker BAnd in so doing, they, even at their church functions, would serve alcohol, which could be problematic, to say the least.
Speaker ACould be.
Speaker BBut I was at this certain church function, and the person who led the church was intoxicated.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BWe would call this person a pastor.
Speaker BThis person called themselves by the title of father, but they were intoxicated and visibly so.
Speaker BAnd I thought, this is a problem.
Speaker BYou know, it's one thing to be like, hey, guys, it's okay if you have a drink.
Speaker BBut another thing to be visibly changed by the fact that you.
Speaker BI mean, that's.
Speaker BThat just seems.
Speaker BAnd anyone who has had problems walking into that church, that's not a good environment for them.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BYou know.
Speaker BYou know, there are people who can do that.
Speaker BThere are people I've talked to where their ministry is in a place where everyone they minister to has a potential problem with this.
Speaker BAnd so for them, they can't even afford themselves the chance to be seen because they fear that.
Speaker BOr the reality could be that if they are seen by any of the people they minister to drinking an alcoholic beverage, that could give that person a kind of license, it's okay because I've seen you doing it.
Speaker BIt's okay.
Speaker BAnd you're a faithful leader.
Speaker BSo if you're doing it, I can do it.
Speaker BAnd then it just opens up.
Speaker BSo, I mean, it's one of those things you just have to be, you know, proceed with caution.
Speaker AOne of our regular guests, Kevin, he.
Speaker AHe.
Speaker AHe was.
Speaker AHe and I were talking about it a week or two ago when he was here, when he was in town.
Speaker AAnd the way that he does it is, like, until he gets to know somebody, he won't drink around him.
Speaker BNo, I'm.
Speaker APeriod.
Speaker AUntil.
Speaker AUntil he gets to know them, like.
Speaker AAnd so I thought that was.
Speaker AThat's a really good.
Speaker AI mean, that's a good first step, right?
Speaker AIs to.
Speaker AIf you are someone who can handle the alcohol properly, right.
Speaker AJust until you really get to know the person a little better, just don't.
Speaker AI mean, that's a great way of doing it also, my college that I went to was a dry campus, so no alcohol.
Speaker AIf you got caught with alcohol or.
Speaker AOr being drunk on campus 24 hours, get your stuff out.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker AYeah, they were really strict about it.
Speaker ABut if you were of age and you were off campus and you were drinking, as long as your character didn't come into question, they were okay.
Speaker ALike, they wouldn't say anything.
Speaker ABut as soon as your character came into question, that were out there, that.
Speaker BSometimes enters the conversation.
Speaker BWell, these things are legal.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BBecause it's not that they're doing anything that is illegal in most places.
Speaker BSo, you know, and you're right.
Speaker BLike, if you are of the right proper age and mentality and you have the ability to go and do these things.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BAnd if you are responsible.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BYou know, it's not.
Speaker BLike I said, that's not a sin to.
Speaker BAs long as you're, you know, your head's in the right place and you're going about it the right way.
Speaker BThere was once a lady that got baptized and she went out with her family to celebrate afterwards and she had half a beer and she asked like, did I mess up?
Speaker BI'm like, no, you didn't mess up.
Speaker BYou didn't mess up on the first day.
Speaker BIt's fine.
Speaker BYou know, like, I get it.
Speaker BLike, because there's a lot of unknowns and there have been a lot of promotion from both sides that have mixed up the waters in that.
Speaker BAnd so, I mean, I think the biggest two things is, like, can you handle it responsibly and.
Speaker BOr can you not?
Speaker BAnd is doing so going to be harmful to others around you, or is it not?
Speaker AI also think it's important to note that getting drunk once is not being a drunkard.
Speaker BNo.
Speaker AI think that that is an important thing because, like, it's easy for us to get in that guilt.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd I just want anybody that doesn't abuse it, that has gotten drunk before to understand, like, that's not something you should feel guilty for, really.
Speaker AI mean, that's.
Speaker AThat's a.
Speaker AIt happens, right?
Speaker ALike, sometimes it happens, but it's the.
Speaker AWhenever it's a habit, whenever you're going out for that sole purpose.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ALike, anytime you're going out to get drunk, that is.
Speaker AThat is a problem.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ABut if it becomes part of life that you're getting drunk all the time, that's when.
Speaker AThat's when the labels, I think.
Speaker AAnd I think that can be against.
Speaker AAcross the board for things.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ALike, you're not a liar.
Speaker AUnless you're, that's part of your life.
Speaker AYou know, you're not a thief unless it's part of your life, you know, like you're not a drunkard unless that's a part of your life.
Speaker AYou're not a hypocrite unless you're constantly doing it.
Speaker ALike it's, that's one of those things that when you, when you make one mistake.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AA lot of people just throw the label on you.
Speaker AAnd that's, to me, that's ridiculous because to be a liar means that my whole life, it's, it's it that, that is a regular part of who I am.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ATo be a hypocrite means I'm constantly saying things that you should be doing that I'm going against all the time.
Speaker AYeah, right.
Speaker ALike it's not a one time mistake.
Speaker AOne thing happens kind of a situation for you to be able to get that label.
Speaker AYeah, same with Christianity.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AI mean, the label.
Speaker BYeah, people love their labels.
Speaker AOh my gosh, it's like, okay, just because you went to church doesn't make you a Christian.
Speaker BYeah, well.
Speaker BAnd just because you make a mistake doesn't mean that you.
Speaker ASo okay, that's what I'm saying.
Speaker BOn one hand, yes, the Bible says we all fall short of the glory of God.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BBut those redeemed, like, yeah.
Speaker BIf you've ever lied before, do you fall short?
Speaker AYes.
Speaker BIf you've ever stolen.
Speaker BAbsolutely.
Speaker BYep.
Speaker BThese are all things held against you.
Speaker BBut the blood of Christ received by you, when you make him lord of your life, that's your slate cleaner.
Speaker BAnd you know, does that mean you're never going to make a mistake again?
Speaker BI wish it were so.
Speaker BI really do.
Speaker BBut oftentimes people are going to make mistakes.
Speaker BPart of the sanctification journey is finding is helping us slowly become better.
Speaker BBut it doesn't necessarily mean that you're not going to fail here or there as part of your learning process.
Speaker AAnd it cleanses the future stuff.
Speaker BOh yeah.
Speaker AThe moment you accept Christ, it cleanses you of the future mistakes too.
Speaker BBecause Christ didn't die just yesterday for you.
Speaker BHe died 2,000 years ago knowing that you were going to live now and have these things and your journey is going to be different than other people's journeys don't compare.
Speaker BThat's important.
Speaker BBut I mean, just last thing I would talk about when it comes to this is back to the idea of the why.
Speaker BIt's just so there is.
Speaker BAnd it works with alcoholism or alcohol and it works with marijuana and works with all these other substances, it's the idolatry of it.
Speaker BSo if you.
Speaker BAnd what it comes down to is the why.
Speaker BIf you're doing it.
Speaker BBecause it's.
Speaker BYou know, here's.
Speaker BWe're in a social situation.
Speaker BThis is our social norm, and everything's fine.
Speaker BAnd like I said, you're not a problem.
Speaker BIt's not a problem for you.
Speaker BIt's not a problem for the people around you.
Speaker BOkay?
Speaker BHowever, if you're the kind of person that's chasing this for different reasons, this is your escape.
Speaker BThis is your release.
Speaker BYou can't live without this.
Speaker BYou can't have a good time without this.
Speaker BAnd it's not entirely your fault, by the way.
Speaker BOur entire society promotes alcohol at every event that you go to.
Speaker BSo it's ridiculous that it's enforcing the idea that in order to have a good time, you have alcohol.
Speaker BI mean, think about it.
Speaker BWhen.
Speaker BIf barbecue scenes is coming up, beer commercials are coming on telling you you're gonna need beer there.
Speaker BBut if you get in the mentality where you need this in your life, this is something that you go to to feel good, and it starts to replace God in your life, that's idolatry.
Speaker BAnd that happens with any substance that you use.
Speaker BYou know, God is the foremost thing that we are to go to for everything, that we are to rely on him for ultimately, for our comfort, for our healing, for everything.
Speaker BDoes he give us ways to do so?
Speaker AYes.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BBut if you are losing sight of God's place and you're replacing it with these other substances of any kind, then that becomes a problem.
Speaker AAgreed.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker AThat is a good way to wrap that up.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AWhat are we going to talk?
Speaker AWhat's our main topic today?
Speaker BWe're going to talk about people who come in the door of the church and how they're viewed.
Speaker ACool.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ARight on.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BNice long opening.
Speaker AGreat.
Speaker AIt was a great opening.
Speaker AYou guys liked it?
Speaker AWelcome to the truth response.
Speaker AI'll pray today.
Speaker BOkay, cool.
Speaker ALord, I just want to thank you for just being so awesome in our lives and for speaking to us in our wilderness that you take us through.
Speaker AAnd, God, just thank you for showing up when we least expect it and when we do expect it.
Speaker AGod, I thank you for the love and the grace and the mercy that you show us how to just pour into others, God.
Speaker AAnd I just pray that you lead this conversation wherever you'll have it.
Speaker AAnd I pray that it doesn't fall on deaf ears, that whatever the people that are listening here is what you want them to Hear God.
Speaker AAnd I pray that it just.
Speaker AIt changes lives.
Speaker AI just.
Speaker AI pray that you change.
Speaker AChange lives here.
Speaker ASo thank you so much for the opportunity.
Speaker AAnd it's in your precious and holy name we pray.
Speaker AAmen.
Speaker BAmen.
Speaker BAll right, so I got.
Speaker BI had a listener send something to me.
Speaker BIt was a story on the Internet.
Speaker BIt's kind of the talking piece for today.
Speaker BAnd I will read the story and then we can go from there.
Speaker BIt says, the pastor says they sit front and center, the gay boys.
Speaker BSometimes they hold hands.
Speaker BAnd some folks have said he should address the issue, but the pastor tells me he doesn't know what to say.
Speaker BThere's a couple who are pregnant and not married walk in in shame.
Speaker BAnd the father, a man of God, physically slaps her legs while she is having morning sickness.
Speaker BAnd the boyfriend who is not willing to marry her is there.
Speaker BBut the pastor tells me he doesn't know what to say.
Speaker BAnd then there's the man who sneaks in the back door fresh off the street after service starts and leaves before the altar call.
Speaker BThe people sitting close complain about how he smells of beer and smoke and sweat.
Speaker BBut the pastor tells me he doesn't know what to say.
Speaker BAnd there's a young mama who wears dirty clothes and lets her four children come in and eat all the donuts and the drink all the watered down juice.
Speaker BSome church staff say they eat like little pigs, like they haven't eaten in weeks, while mama just stands there and lets them.
Speaker BAnd the elders say something must be done.
Speaker BBut the pastor tells me he doesn't know what to say.
Speaker BAnd there's a horror sitting among the faithful.
Speaker BAnd everybody knows her.
Speaker BShe sits with a painted up face, cheap perfume and a broken heart.
Speaker BAnd those who sit close, well, they all treat her for what she.
Speaker BThey think she is.
Speaker BAt the last staff meeting, her name came up.
Speaker BSomething must be done about her.
Speaker BBut the pastor says he doesn't know what to say.
Speaker BThe pastor is a good man, holy and just.
Speaker BAnd he just wants to do the right and loving thing.
Speaker BHe wants to look like Jesus.
Speaker BAnd he asked me if I have any thoughts on anything he could say.
Speaker BYes, sweet pastor, I do.
Speaker BStart with this and say it louder than any other words.
Speaker BWelcome to church.
Speaker BThis is a place of love and hope and safety and forgiveness.
Speaker BThere will be food for the hungry, living water for the thirsty.
Speaker BWe are so glad you are here.
Speaker BYou are invited.
Speaker BYou are loved.
Speaker BCome on in.
Speaker BWe've been waiting for you.
Speaker BWelcome here.
Speaker BWe are the church.
Speaker BI'll stop there, but that's pretty much, dude, like when.
Speaker AWhenever.
Speaker AWhenever you were saying that, he says, I don't know what to say, man.
Speaker AThat's my response to the people asking those questions and saying those things.
Speaker ALike, I don't know what to tell you.
Speaker ALike, you've got something wrong.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker ALike, that's all those people that have the issue with those things.
Speaker ALike, they have the heart issue because they're actively choosing to not be like Jesus.
Speaker BYeah, yeah.
Speaker BAnd what a way to be comparing between you and another person.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BI would directly relate it to the story where Jesus is talking about the tax collector and the Pharisee.
Speaker BAnd the Pharisee says, thank you, God, that I'm not like tax collector.
Speaker BBut tax collector says, lord, forgive me, I'm a sinner.
Speaker BAnd he says that the tax collector goes home justified, not the Pharisee.
Speaker BPeople have a tendency to think too highly of themselves and forget that they too need Jesus.
Speaker BYou know, they look at other people's situations with contempt.
Speaker BIt's just crazy.
Speaker BAnd it's interesting, the different examples.
Speaker BAnd I think it hits home on a lot of spaces.
Speaker AYou know, I like the multitude of different examples simply because we so often want to go to the gay example first in churches.
Speaker ALike, that's the one we want to point out, I think, a lot of times.
Speaker AAnd it's one of those, well, they're living in sin.
Speaker AWell, okay, so are you.
Speaker AWhat's your sin of choice?
Speaker AYou know, like, it's one of those things.
Speaker ALike, I'm not saying it's okay, but I'm also not saying the person who is gluttonous, right?
Speaker AWho's eating their life away is okay.
Speaker AI'm not saying the person who's got a lying issue is okay.
Speaker AI'm not saying the person with the pornography issue is okay.
Speaker AI'm saying, like, we've all got things that we're living in, right?
Speaker AThat Jesus is.
Speaker AHe's can't clean the whole house at one time.
Speaker AI don't know how many times I could say that, Right?
Speaker ALike, you can't.
Speaker AYou cannot do it.
Speaker AAnd so if that couple is working on trying to get one thing cleaned up, they may not have been called to get rid of that yet.
Speaker BYeah, that's a good point.
Speaker BI've known a lot of people where there is something that they are doing that is not what we consider a good Christian thing to do in their life, and they are persisting in that, but they are still chasing Christ.
Speaker BAnd people lose sight of that second part.
Speaker BThey are still chasing Christ.
Speaker BAnd Christ has been teaching them and working on them, and there are other parts of their life that maybe he needed to fix first, if at all, with some of these things.
Speaker ATo be clear too, if we're trying to justify it through Bible, that's another issue.
Speaker AWe're talking something completely different at that point.
Speaker ABecause if that couple is like, well, actually the Bible justifies us living like this, okay, then we can have a conversation.
Speaker ABut if they're chasing after God.
Speaker AYeah, right.
Speaker AAnd that just hasn't been the thing that's been there yet.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker AI mean, Jesus doesn't want us to clean ourselves up and then come to him.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AHe says, come as you are, because he's big enough to cleanse all unrighteousness.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd you know, it's funny, as I look over that list and I have known people like everybody on that list and I've seen people like everybody on that list in churches.
Speaker AI might know somebody like that.
Speaker AEveryone on that list that's been to this one.
Speaker BYeah, yeah.
Speaker BActually, I could think of a few that fit descriptions fairly.
Speaker BAnd the thing about it is welcome is true.
Speaker BI love it.
Speaker BThat's what you're here for.
Speaker BYou know, and I.
Speaker BThe one that hits me the most actually of all of them, like some of them are, it's the guy that sneaks in and sneaks out.
Speaker BThat guy, man.
Speaker BMy heart for that guy is, you know, and I know this, in this story.
Speaker BIt's a story, you know, as for an example.
Speaker BBut if I knew there was a guy that was doing that, oh my gosh, he would be my priority one.
Speaker BYou don't need to rush out, man.
Speaker BYeah, you, you come in.
Speaker BI mean, look, you come in, you leave whenever you need, but you don't have to rush out.
Speaker BYou don't have to come in late.
Speaker BThis is your place.
Speaker BLike, it is obvious.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BHe might smell like alcohol or smoke or whatever.
Speaker BBut you are obviously here because you want to hear this message.
Speaker BYou are here because you want to hear a little bit of God.
Speaker BYou want to experience God.
Speaker BAnd you're coming in the way you are because you're afraid of everyone else.
Speaker BAnd how can we help you understand that you don't have to be afraid of us anymore.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AIf you're listening to this and you're one of those people that's like, if I ever entered a church, place would burn down or catch fire or whatever, I'm here to tell you that's not going to happen.
Speaker AThat, that's just not how it works.
Speaker BBut I Have a friend that jokes about that, like, every time.
Speaker AYeah, I do, too.
Speaker AAnd I've been trying to get him to come to just a regular Sunday morning, you know, like, whatever.
Speaker AAnd he's talked about it.
Speaker AHe's talked about coming, like, on a Wednesday night or Sunday morning or just whatever, but just hasn't pulled the trigger yet.
Speaker AI've even offered to buy him lunch or dinner or whatever, you know, so.
Speaker ABut offer still stands if you're listening.
Speaker AYeah, he'll listen to this, though, on occasion, so.
Speaker AWhich is great.
Speaker BThat's cool.
Speaker ABut, yeah, dude, like, that.
Speaker AThe homeless guy, right?
Speaker ALike, that's who I envision.
Speaker BYeah, that's kind of the idea.
Speaker AAnd like, that guy.
Speaker ALike, I've seen this church wrap its arms around, oh, my goodness, yes, homeless.
Speaker BPeople, and in ways that I've never seen before.
Speaker AAbsolutely fantastic.
Speaker AAnd I.
Speaker AOne that hits really close to home with me on that list is those kids are being allowed to eat everything in our snack area.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ALike, yeah, I have heard that.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AHere.
Speaker AAnd I've.
Speaker AI've been a part of that conversation here.
Speaker AI probably didn't handle it the way that I should have, but I also didn't think about it like that.
Speaker ASo that's really convicting, you know, like.
Speaker AYeah, that's totally a part of the whole thing, is that, you know what?
Speaker AWho cares?
Speaker AJesus fed 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish.
Speaker BWe can feed a family.
Speaker BFive.
Speaker AWe can feed a family of five cookies for days.
Speaker ALike, Jesus will completely keep providing whatever it is that we're putting out there as long as we're feeding his sheep.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BI tell you what would be an interesting approach, and I think this church is actually pretty great at.
Speaker BWhen I say this church, I don't mean, like, this building.
Speaker BI mean, like, the people who make up this church.
Speaker BAnd that's not just the people on staff, right?
Speaker AOh, yeah, right.
Speaker BBut the people whose hearts are in this church.
Speaker BThis church has a really great mindset on a lot of these things where if we saw someone where they're like, that, we might reach out to them and go, hey, do you guys need some stuff?
Speaker BAnd we're the kind of people, like, maybe we need some extra snacks next week.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BYou know, and it's almost one of these things.
Speaker BLike, if your church is having a problem with this, maybe you should ask God to help you change your heart and also maybe start praying.
Speaker BLord, thank you for the opportunity that we had to give to these.
Speaker BHelp us give more and see how different things go for You.
Speaker BI mean, a church that is willing to step up and be a little extra, helping to some families like that man, can make a huge difference.
Speaker BYou're giving them all.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BAnd a safe place.
Speaker AI think of the example in Les Mis.
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker AWhere the.
Speaker AThe.
Speaker AThis guy who was a prisoner for a long time gets released and is being followed by this warden who's just obsessed with him.
Speaker AAnd he goes and stays at this priest's house, right?
Speaker AAnd he gets up early in the morning and he steals a bunch of, like, the silver and stuff from the house, right?
Speaker AAnd he's caught by this warden dude and brought to.
Speaker ATo back to the priest.
Speaker AAnd the priest had every right to just be like, yeah, throw him back in jail.
Speaker ABut he was like, oh, you forgot.
Speaker AGlad you came back.
Speaker AYou forgot the candle sticks and, you know, these things.
Speaker AAnd he gave him even more than what the guy had stolen.
Speaker AAnd the whole point of it is that.
Speaker AThat that situation offered that guy.
Speaker AThe whole story is about this.
Speaker AOffered that guy the opportunity to change his life and make it better.
Speaker AAnd he capitalized on doing so, even though the warden chased him forever, but completely revolutionized who he was.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BI love that.
Speaker BYou know, a lot of people in this world, we store up treasures for ourselves.
Speaker AOh, yeah.
Speaker BBut that's.
Speaker BThere's an example of taking the charger we have and using it to better another person.
Speaker BThat's kingdom work right there.
Speaker AYeah, that's amazing.
Speaker BI love it.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BI mean, and so you got.
Speaker BIf there's a couple who is, you know, presumably in a gay relationship, and they're coming in, they're holding hands, first off, take the disgust off your face and look at the beauty of that situation.
Speaker BEven if they are in a relationship that, biblically speaking, is not sound, they're bringing that relationship to the Lord.
Speaker AIt's true.
Speaker BAnd together are in church.
Speaker AWell.
Speaker AAnd especially with the way that so many, quote, unquote, Christians have treated the gay community.
Speaker ALike, the fact that they're willing to step in the doors, front row, too, notice it said front center is something that should be commended.
Speaker BYeah, that's brave.
Speaker ASo I'm just saying, like, it's one of those things that, like, I don't condone it, like, at all.
Speaker AI'm not saying that it's an okay thing, but I think that you're completely right.
Speaker AThat is something to be like, way to go.
Speaker AI took the first step.
Speaker AThis is amazing.
Speaker BI think it's.
Speaker BI think it's beyond amazing.
Speaker BAnd I think that the best thing that anyone can do is ask a question very.
Speaker BHow can I help you in your next step with Jesus?
Speaker BAnd not mention anything else.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AThere will be a time.
Speaker AThere will be a time that.
Speaker AThat'll come up.
Speaker AAt some point.
Speaker AIt'll come up.
Speaker AIt's inevitable.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd when it comes up, if you're treating them like Christ would treat them, then they'll either receive it or they won't.
Speaker AAnd the only way for them to really have a good chance of receiving that message as if you're treating them like Christ would.
Speaker ASo, like, it'll come up.
Speaker AYou don't necessarily have to rush it right now.
Speaker AI wouldn't elevate that person into leadership until they've gotten rid of that.
Speaker BNo, we don't do that even for unmarried couples.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ASo, like, there are certain things that.
Speaker AThere are certain sins that have more consequence than others.
Speaker ANow I'm talking in the here and now world, not necessarily the spiritual side of things.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ABut some things are more visual.
Speaker ASome things are more choice than they are.
Speaker ALike, there's some people that don't believe addiction should be an addiction, but addictions are a thing.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ALike, if you're breaking them, it may not be overnight.
Speaker ASo that's one thing.
Speaker ABut it depends on what it is, too.
Speaker ALike, if you're going out and getting drunk all the time, probably not going to put you in leadership.
Speaker AYou know, if you drink alcohol and you've gotten drunk before.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker ASo it happens, you know.
Speaker ABut if you're going out and getting drunk all the time.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ANot going to promote you to leadership.
Speaker AJust like if you're in a homosexual relationship and are unwilling to stop being in a homosexual relationship.
Speaker ANot gonna promote your leadership.
Speaker ANot kicking you out the doors, though.
Speaker BNo, no, no.
Speaker ANever, Never.
Speaker BThis is totally your church.
Speaker BYeah, keep coming.
Speaker BBut, you know, there's.
Speaker BBut like I said, we have people who can tell that God's calling them.
Speaker BBut if they're in a.
Speaker BIf they're living in a relationship, man and woman living in the same house.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker BAll right.
Speaker BWell, if you're not married, I would love.
Speaker BI can tell God wants you to do this, but I need you.
Speaker BYou also need to fix this.
Speaker AAnd it doesn't matter if you have kids or not.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ALike, even if you have kids together and you're not married, like.
Speaker AOkay, yeah, the Bible is clear about this.
Speaker BFor some people, that.
Speaker BThat raises questions.
Speaker BBut, I mean, we need people to.
Speaker BIf you are going to step up and be an example, then be an example.
Speaker BI did the same thing.
Speaker BGod called me when I was still dating my wife at the time.
Speaker BWe felt that it was going that way.
Speaker BOur commitment was strong, but I could feel God calling me into ministry at the time.
Speaker BThey were all about it.
Speaker BThe church I was with was all about it.
Speaker BBut that was like, look, you know, you're gonna have to get this taken care of first.
Speaker BAnd I was like, that's a good thing.
Speaker BThat's where this is going, you know, and it made it easy.
Speaker BAnd there's a person I know now that's in that same place.
Speaker BIt's amazing.
Speaker BThe call on him is strong and it's great.
Speaker BAnd they're in that very similar space, and they received that very well, where it's like, yeah, okay, well, that's exactly where this was going, so let's do it.
Speaker AI mean, and it's not like.
Speaker ASo a lot of people get antsy about timing, right?
Speaker ALike, well, they didn't go out and do it this weekend, so they're still living in sin.
Speaker AWell, okay.
Speaker AThey're taking the steps to make that a thing, Right.
Speaker AThey're taking it seriously, even if it's three months later, four months later.
Speaker ALike, some stuff just takes planning.
Speaker AIt took us six months to plan our wedding, right?
Speaker ASo, like, they're taking it seriously at that point.
Speaker AAnd that's.
Speaker AThat's what you got to see, is that God also works on different people in different time frames.
Speaker BYeah, he worked on me in that time for sure, with a lot of different things.
Speaker BEspecially how.
Speaker BWas.
Speaker BEven how I was dating my wife.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AYeah, that's good.
Speaker AYeah, that's real good.
Speaker BSo, yeah, I mean, it's just how.
Speaker BIt's crazy still just going back to kind of almost kind of the beginning here.
Speaker BBut, like, how people who start to get on the path of following Christ suddenly feel like they can look at other people and start judging them, condemning them, condemning them, or also thinking as if they're more worthy than these other people.
Speaker AThat's what I mean by condemning, too.
Speaker BIt's wild.
Speaker BIt just blows my mind.
Speaker ARight, Right.
Speaker AAnd I do wanna.
Speaker AI do wanna say, like, I think some people think that they are.
Speaker AAre just holding people accountable.
Speaker AAnd it's really gonna be all about presentation.
Speaker AIf you're in a place where you're like, well, I'm just trying to hold people accountable.
Speaker AOkay, so think about how you presented that.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker ABecause it can be done well.
Speaker AIt should be done well.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker ALike.
Speaker AAnd there are certain situations where you're allowed to be.
Speaker AHold people accountable.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker ALike, it's just a thing.
Speaker AIt's usually in relationship period.
Speaker ALike, it's hard to hold somebody accountable that you don't know.
Speaker AYeah, right.
Speaker ASo you are very blessed if somebody allows you to hold them accountable that doesn't know you.
Speaker AYeah, right.
Speaker ALike that.
Speaker AThat is a blessed situation, divine intervention, God thing.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ABecause, I mean, dude, if I don't know you, like, who are you?
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ALike, what is this, like, you stepping into my area and you're trying to call me out on something.
Speaker ALike, I don't know you from, you know, anybody.
Speaker ASo I think that's something that's important.
Speaker AIs that, like, how.
Speaker AHow are you doing it?
Speaker AWhat are you doing?
Speaker AHow are you going about calling people out?
Speaker ALike, because it's not necessarily wrong.
Speaker ACalling people out is not a bad thing.
Speaker AIt's.
Speaker AIt's definitely something that is.
Speaker AWe're called to do.
Speaker ABut it's after we get to know them, you know, like, once we get to know people, then we call them out.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AYou know, then we start, like, allowing each other into each other's lives, and.
Speaker BYou start to walk into those spaces.
Speaker BI think that's.
Speaker BThere's no rushing necessarily.
Speaker BBut once you can get into these new arenas of a relationship and these new spaces, and once you start to have those conversations, there are organic ways of entering into a space of conversation or a space of life where you can speak truth into this and go, well, this is it.
Speaker BAnd this is with all kinds of things.
Speaker BHey, for instance, if the person has a problem with alcohol, if that's become their idol and you enter in a relationship, they're going to find yourself organically in a space where you can go, you know, dude, I got to be honest with you on this.
Speaker BThis is where this is at.
Speaker BAnd from that point, you've entered into a relationship, they're seeing you not from a place of condemnation, but in a case and point of love.
Speaker BLike, I love you, man, but I can't do this.
Speaker BAnd because this is it, man.
Speaker BI don't think you're looking at this right.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BYou know, and there's a big difference from being able to talk in those situations than coming right at it.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BA lot of people want to go right for the jugular and look to a degree.
Speaker BI get it.
Speaker BI mean, why waste time, right?
Speaker BBut if you want to be heard, if you want people to be able to accept things, I mean, God does this with us.
Speaker BGod does not reveal all at once.
Speaker BIf he did, our heads would explode.
Speaker BThere are people, like, even ministers are continually learning and continually going deeper in our faith at Least we should be leaders like myself and Nick Antorn and Derek Tennant, who are pastors of the church.
Speaker BWe are constantly going deeper.
Speaker BGod is moving in our lives.
Speaker BWe see things that help us learn scripture, better know God, better deepen our faith.
Speaker BWe find new understandings.
Speaker BPeople bring things to help enhance our lives all the time.
Speaker BAnd for most part, we seek this out also.
Speaker BBut, you know, the relationship is going to be different if you're just coming in, if you're expecting people to get it all right away, that's crazy, because if you look at your pastor, you know, and I don't think I know everything just so, but if you look at.
Speaker BIf someone were to look at me and go, you know way more about the Bible than I do, yet you're the kind of person that's looking at them like they're getting it completely wrong.
Speaker BBut, like, look, dude, I don't know it all and neither do you.
Speaker BAnd they're going to be in a long journey too.
Speaker BLike, it might be a long time before they get to where you're at.
Speaker BIt could be a long time before they get.
Speaker BAnd for some people, it's quicker.
Speaker BFor some people, it's longer.
Speaker BBut as long as we can continuously chase Jesus in the same direction, then we're doing something right.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BAnd to be able to provide those spaces for everyone on that list.
Speaker BAnd we haven't even talked about the whore.
Speaker BThat's what they called her in the story, the whore.
Speaker BEverybody knows who she is.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BHas anybody taken a step back and wondered how she got to that point in her life where that became something that she felt that she needed to get her?
Speaker BYou know, she hasn't realized yet, but now maybe she's going to church because she's starting to realize that her real identity is not in these relationships.
Speaker BHer real worth is not in those experiences.
Speaker BIt's in God.
Speaker BAnd how can you help her embrace that truth so that she can let go of these other things?
Speaker AYeah, my grandma used to sing a song all the time.
Speaker ALooking for love in all the wrong places.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd that doesn't just speak to that person.
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker ALike, if you're looking for love anywhere but Jesus, you're looking in the wrong place.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AAnd so, like, you do have to take that sociological approach, right?
Speaker AWith.
Speaker AWith each person, like, okay, where.
Speaker AWhere are they coming from?
Speaker AWhat got them to this point?
Speaker ABecause that's.
Speaker AThat's how doctors should even work, right?
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker AIt's like, what, okay, why are you sick?
Speaker ARight?
Speaker ALike, what got you to this point, because if they're not looking at that, then you're not.
Speaker AThere's not going to be healing, right?
Speaker AThere's not going to be healing.
Speaker AUnless.
Speaker AUnless.
Speaker AUnless they're looking at.
Speaker AWhy did you get to this point?
Speaker AYou know, it's the holistic approach, right?
Speaker BYou know, it's actually, it's that, it's, it's amazing.
Speaker BBut like, see, that's the thing.
Speaker BThat's the advantage God has over us.
Speaker BThank God he does.
Speaker BBecause that's what I think.
Speaker BI mean, to me, you could call this speculation, but I mean, I believe that's what helps him be more patient with all of us and long suffering with us, me included.
Speaker BWhere he saw the bigger picture.
Speaker BAnd he does.
Speaker BHe sees the bigger picture with every single one of us.
Speaker BHe sees not just where we are, but how we got there.
Speaker BAnd he also knows exactly how we need to be poured into to get us out.
Speaker BAnd that's with any mess in life.
Speaker BThe Lord can get you through anything.
Speaker BThe old adage, God will give you never more than you can handle.
Speaker BWell, maybe.
Speaker BOr he might never give you more than you can handle with him because he can handle anything.
Speaker BSo are you looking to yourself?
Speaker BAre you looking to Him?
Speaker BThe more we can help people look to themselves, look to Jesus as compared to themselves, as compared to these other vices or whatever it is that has gotten them into these messes.
Speaker BThe better off they're going to be, no matter what.
Speaker AI mean, the Lord will absolutely give you more than you can handle, 100%.
Speaker BBut it's not more than he can.
Speaker ARight, Right.
Speaker AYeah, yeah, I know.
Speaker AThat's what I'm saying.
Speaker AThat whole thing is like.
Speaker AThat statement just kills me nowadays.
Speaker AI'm not going to say I didn't used to say that, but I used.
Speaker BTo say it before.
Speaker ABut then I put away childish ways at some point.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AI mean, that's because you grow.
Speaker AThat's what I mean.
Speaker AAs I grew and matured in my faith, I realized, okay, no, that is absolutely what God does all the time.
Speaker ABecause he wants us to fully rely on Him.
Speaker AIt's in our weakness that his strengths show up and shine through.
Speaker AAnd so absolutely does he put us in situations that we could never handle ourselves.
Speaker AYeah, right.
Speaker ALike my whole, my whole wilderness walk right now.
Speaker AI A, would have, would have never done this myself.
Speaker AB, there's no way I would even know what to do unless he got me to a place where it was in his strength that I was humbled and I was able to like, just hands Open with whatever people want to teach me with whatever.
Speaker ALike, that has not been who I've been like most of my life.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd so not that I don't have some humility, but just the fact that, like, I'm open to learning whatever, like I'm open to being wrong.
Speaker AI'm open to new knowledge.
Speaker AI'm open to all of that, you know, and so like in his strength the whole way, right?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd I was even talking the other day to somebody.
Speaker AI don't remember who I was talking to.
Speaker AIt could have been any number of people.
Speaker AProbably had the conversation with several people.
Speaker AJust the fact that, like, I've been in this place where it's like, okay, God, like I'm pressing through.
Speaker AI'm pressing on in all this.
Speaker AI'm seeing no money, right.
Speaker AI've got no income coming in for, you know, my.
Speaker AThrough through my business.
Speaker AI've spent plenty of money on materials and all of that.
Speaker AAnd I just, I'm seeing nothing.
Speaker AAnd then like.
Speaker ABut I know, I know that God's got this.
Speaker AI know that God's got something in mind.
Speaker AIt's clear that he's, you know, been leading this whole thing.
Speaker AAnd so, like, I.
Speaker AI'm just relying on him to do the thing as I'm pressing forward.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd today, I mean, today and yesterday just was.
Speaker AThere's.
Speaker AThey start throwing this stuff at me, right?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo like a hundred percent.
Speaker ADoes he give us things that we can't handle ourselves?
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker BBut you know what?
Speaker BHe also allows us to make mistakes.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AOh, yeah.
Speaker BYou know, and that's another area that I think people get so hard hearted about.
Speaker BFor instance, go.
Speaker BLet's go back to the guy that just briefly, that was, you know, potentially.
Speaker BMaybe he was a homeless guy, right?
Speaker BYeah, potentially.
Speaker AI mean, probably.
Speaker AIt sounds like it, but probably.
Speaker BWe don't have all the details, but it sounds familiar anyway.
Speaker BSome people look at people like that and they don't have any pity for them at all, you know, and here's the kinds of things they say.
Speaker BThey say things like, well, they made.
Speaker BThey're the ones that made all the decisions.
Speaker BThey made all the wrong decisions.
Speaker BThey dug this grave.
Speaker BThat's where they belong to go, okay.
Speaker BAnd you know what?
Speaker BYou're in completely.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BHowever, who are you to keep them there?
Speaker ARight, Right.
Speaker ABy treating them like that, all you're doing is saying, I don't care about you.
Speaker BIt's wow, the amount of contempt you have for another life at that point.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BYou know what you're Right.
Speaker BYou did go out and you did get work, and you did do all the things you need to do.
Speaker BAnd, yeah, you worked hard and you have a job and you have a house and you have a car and you have a family and you're paying your bills.
Speaker BAnd that person did everything wrong.
Speaker BEverything wrong they did.
Speaker BAnd now they're in that spot.
Speaker BBut is it about keeping them there or continuing to find a way to help them find a way out?
Speaker AThe question to that person is, how does it feel to be the older brother?
Speaker AOh, yeah, Right.
Speaker ALike, oh, yeah, this dude's the prodigal son, right?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AThis dude is coming.
Speaker AHe knows he's.
Speaker AHe's in a bad place.
Speaker AHe knows he's not where he's supposed to be.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AUntil now, he's walked in the doors that he's supposed to, but, like, he knows that he's done all of the things wrong.
Speaker AI promise every single homeless person I've ever met, when they're not actually high at the time or drunk at the time, knows that what they're doing and what they've done that has led them to the place that they're at is not good.
Speaker AIt's not good for them.
Speaker ABut at some point, they stop caring, but they know that it's not good.
Speaker ASo the fact that they've walked in the door, that's who that person is.
Speaker AThat's who Jesus is talking about, is that person.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ASo the person who's like, they've made all the bad choices.
Speaker AI've worked my butt off to do everything that I can right the correct way.
Speaker AAnd this person comes in like, welcome to being the older brother.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BYou know, and the thing is that.
Speaker BHere's the honest thing about it is, you know, for both people, without Jesus, you are just as far away from the kingdom of God 100%.
Speaker BYou've made any mistake in your life.
Speaker BYou are just as far away from the kingdom of God as this man is making all the mistakes you claim that he's made.
Speaker BBut God gave you a way out, and he gives them a way out.
Speaker BAnd so why do you think yourself that better that you deserve a way out and he doesn't?
Speaker BWhy?
Speaker BBecause this guy made a couple mistakes.
Speaker BYou've made mistakes, too.
Speaker AWhen you chose Jesus, the feast was just as big.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ALike, that's the thing, is that people forget that the feast is the same.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BWe're here to build the people up.
Speaker BWe need to.
Speaker BThere's so much emphasis in our society of getting yours right.
Speaker BAnd it's we.
Speaker BWe've lost that bit of compassion for our fellow person, for our neighbor.
Speaker BYou know, it reminds me of the movie It's a Wonderful Life from Christmas Time.
Speaker ANever seen it.
Speaker BYou've never seen it?
Speaker BOh, my gosh.
Speaker ASo I've never seen A Christmas Story either, so.
Speaker BWell, Wonderful Life is a lot different, but I'm just saying it's a classic and you can see it in color and in black and white.
Speaker BEither way, it's the awesome.
Speaker BI watched both.
Speaker BIt's a really amazing story, and it's around Christmas time.
Speaker BMy wife and I try to watch it.
Speaker BI think we didn't watch it this year, which is kind of a shame, but it was a crazy year.
Speaker BThat being said, it's amazing because the main character is a guy who has these aspirations and things that he'd love to do with his life, but is willing to put himself second repeatedly for the betterment of the people around him.
Speaker BAnd that's family.
Speaker BThat's the people down the street.
Speaker BHe takes chances.
Speaker BHe believes in people, lifting people up and giving them chances to survive and thrive.
Speaker BAnd he put his whole community before himself.
Speaker BAnd the basis of the movie.
Speaker BAnd you haven't seen it, and this is spoiler alert, but you've had plenty of time.
Speaker BThis is older than you.
Speaker ANo, it's fine.
Speaker BBut, like, the basis of the movie is the guy gets to a point where he meets this angel and is like, I wish I was never born at all.
Speaker BAnd angel is like, all right, you want to see what the world looks like without you?
Speaker BThere you go.
Speaker BAnd so he goes and he gets a glimpse of what life would have been like if he had not been there, if someone without his compassion and his love for his fellow person had not been there.
Speaker BAnd the world he sees is terrible.
Speaker BI mean, absolutely terrible.
Speaker BUnrecognizable.
Speaker BAnd that's the thing.
Speaker BThat's the difference one person can make.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWhen they're willing to go outside of themselves.
Speaker BAnd the thing is, then at the end of the movie, what's amazing is that his community comes around him, saves his situation.
Speaker BYou know, he's given everything, and now they give it all back and, you know, show him how loved and how appreciated and how much he's meant to their whole community by all showing up.
Speaker BAnd it's.
Speaker BIt's a beautiful movie.
Speaker BIt's so beautiful.
Speaker BYou know, you can't go through that movie through a theological point of view.
Speaker BAnd actually, it doesn't have to be a Christmas movie.
Speaker BIt just happens to be based Around Christmas time.
Speaker BSo you can watch it any time of the year, and it still holds up.
Speaker BIt's a great movie when it comes to the compassion and love and putting others first and what that is, what a difference it makes in the world, it is stupendous.
Speaker BThe person that wrote it was brilliant.
Speaker BAnd you can tell, wanted to make a message that would be lasting, Lasting.
Speaker BAnd I love it so much just for that reason.
Speaker BLike, you get caught up in the fact, and it's wild because as you're going on the journey, you just see this guy constantly not being able to do what he wants to do, yet somehow still getting through until he feels like he's just got nothing left to give.
Speaker BAnd that's when the world gives back.
Speaker BAnd it's an amazing thing.
Speaker BI loved it so much.
Speaker ASo, yeah, maybe I'll check it out.
Speaker AMaybe I'll.
Speaker BThat's the kind of person we all know.
Speaker AProbably not till Christmas.
Speaker BHow can you look at the people around you with more compassion?
Speaker BThese people, all those people in that story, if you start with compassion, to know that they are loved by our Creator.
Speaker BJust as he loves you.
Speaker BHe loves you no more.
Speaker BHe loves them no more.
Speaker ABut.
Speaker BBut the fact that you were loved together, you both were broken and fallen together.
Speaker BAnd if you have found your way out, you can reach back and lift them out of that pit and help them move forward, too.
Speaker BThat's the compassion that God loves, wants us to have.
Speaker BThat's the love that we will be known as his forgiving.
Speaker AYeah, that's good.
Speaker BThe preacher in me is coming out now.
Speaker ASorry.
Speaker AI immediately thought of nature, boy.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ACould have been preacher.
Speaker AHe could get saved still.
Speaker BThat would be amazing.
Speaker AThere's still space for him.
Speaker BHulk Hogan got saved.
Speaker BHe can get.
Speaker AI know.
Speaker AUndertaker.
Speaker BUndertaker.
Speaker AThere's a regular church attender.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AIn fact, Hogan.
Speaker AHogan on.
Speaker BShawn Michaels on.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker AShawn Michaels.
Speaker AI think that was part of what got him clean from.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AAlcohol and all that.
Speaker ABut Hogan early.
Speaker AIt was.
Speaker AI think it was 2020.
Speaker ADid.
Speaker ADid Joe Rogan.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AHe was on there with Joe.
Speaker AIt might have been later than 2020.
Speaker AAnd he started talking about his faith a little bit.
Speaker AAnd Joe Rogan said something kind of off.
Speaker AI mean, normally he doesn't.
Speaker ABut I think it was a misunderstood.
Speaker AHe didn't mean for it to sound like it did.
Speaker AAnd Hogan was like, are you gonna let me talk about this?
Speaker ABecause if not, we're in, we're done, we're gonna end here.
Speaker AI just thought it was the coolest thing because, like, you don't think of Hogan as a Jesus lover, but, like, the fact that he was, like, telling the biggest podcaster in the entire world, like, hey, yo, I don't.
Speaker AI don't care who.
Speaker AHow many followers you got.
Speaker AI don't care who's watching.
Speaker AI don't.
Speaker AI don't care.
Speaker AAny of that.
Speaker AWe're done now.
Speaker AIf you're not gonna let me talk about my faith.
Speaker AIt was cool.
Speaker BYeah, that's pretty awesome.
Speaker ASo there's still room for everybody in heaven?
Speaker AEverybody that wants it?
Speaker AWell, there's room for you.
Speaker BScripture tells us it's not God's will or desire for anyone to not be saved.
Speaker BHe wants us all in there with him.
Speaker BBut, you know, it's one of the things people ask me about that.
Speaker BIt's like, you know, but why would he then condemn people to hell?
Speaker BIt's like, no, no, no, no, you don't understand.
Speaker BWe have already done that.
Speaker BWe've condemned ourselves to hell, but we have the choice to get ourselves out.
Speaker BAnd how we do that is by accepting Jesus Christ.
Speaker BWe have the ability to accept him and what he's willing to gift us or reject God.
Speaker BAnd that's how it happens.
Speaker AStop over complicating it.
Speaker AStop over complicating it.
Speaker AThe person in Africa who's never heard of Jesus, what does God have to do?
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker ABut guess what?
Speaker AGod's bigger than all of that.
Speaker AHe's already thought that out, and he's fully just.
Speaker ASo whatever it is that he has for that, maybe he gets an exception because he tried to live as close to that as possible, and he knew that he couldn't make it there on his own.
Speaker AHe knew that he made mistakes, that there was a higher power, who knows, right?
Speaker ALike, freaking.
Speaker AStop over complicating things and just trust that God is just.
Speaker AAnd that he's going to treat everybody with love, because that's who he is.
Speaker BAnd if you're really convicted about that person on the other side of the world and you're like, what about him?
Speaker BHe doesn't have a Bible.
Speaker BHe has nobody telling.
Speaker AOkay, maybe that's your call.
Speaker BYou got a Bible.
Speaker BYou know these things.
Speaker BYou go, right, Maybe you're being called.
Speaker ATo be a missionary.
Speaker AI'm so tired of hearing that, dude.
Speaker AOh, it's so tired of hearing.
Speaker ASo, yes, that if.
Speaker AIf you're that person, you either need to check yourself or you need to become a missionary.
Speaker AThat's.
Speaker AThat's where it's at, right?
Speaker BThat's it.
Speaker BWe talked about that last time.
Speaker AWe did talk about that last time.
Speaker AOh, man.
Speaker AToday's been a rock star of a day.
Speaker AI'm living on a mountaintop, dude.

Speaker AI'm.
Speaker AI'm.

Speaker AYesterday was probably the best day I've had in 10 years.
Speaker B10 years.
Speaker AFive years.
Speaker AI can't say 10 years.
Speaker AMy daughter was born.
Speaker AYeah, okay.
Speaker BFive years ago.
Speaker AAnd then before that I got married to the greatest woman in the world.
Speaker ASo, yeah, probably in the last five years though, like, it's probably been the greatest day.
Speaker ALike, it's just because God is so good, right?
Speaker ALike, God is blessing me.
Speaker B10 years has been redacted.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ANot 10 years.
Speaker AI, I over exaggerated.
Speaker BI got you.
Speaker BYeah, that's awesome.
Speaker BI'm so happy for you, man.
