hey everybody. Welcome back to another edition of the Daily Bible Podcast. Hello again. It's Thursday. Yeah, it's Thursday. And what do we got coming up this weekend? Just, we've got church again this weekend. Father's Day is coming up in a, in about a week and a half. So if you've got a dad out there be tracking that. I think they all do. It's June. Yeah. Not all of them are living. That's true. But I think we all have one. Yeah. Or not all are reconciled with their dad. That's true. Yeah. There's. Broken relationships out there and stuff. We do have men's Bible study, speaking of dads that is coming up. Men's Bible study is a Saturday and we have one Mark Kogan, who will be teaching us. I can't wait for him to Mark Hogan, teach On. I can't tell you what he's teaching on 'cause I don't have it in front of me, but I know he is teaching and I'm expecting it to be awesome. I think he's teaching on drunkenness, right? Isn't that one of them? Yeah, probably. Yeah. Yeah. We selected him very carefully for that. We thought, you know what, there's anyone who has the experience, although, man, what happens? He said, even if Julia has the baby. He's gonna be there if she's having the baby while he's preaching, I might relieve him. I've honestly thought Skin in your pocket. No, I would just show up and start preaching just on the subject. Extemporaneous man. Extemporaneous. I think. Wouldn't that be so much fun? Because you would never do it on purpose, but if the opportunity arose and let's say I'm scheduled to preach and I go down and you just have to jump in. Yeah, I guess you could take one of your old sermons and dust it off, but I think you might have more fun just saying, okay, what's this text? Okay, I could preach this. Lemme just find a couple things to do with this maybe. Yeah. I don't know, man, that'd be a tight spot to be in for sure. Yeah. Let's see. Maybe this Saturday, maybe you and I might be in that role. Maybe. We'll, I'll just jump in there. Let's talk about these three things here. See, and I guess, yeah, I don't know. I enjoy the interactive extemporaneous, like I enjoy q and as and not knowing ahead of time what the questions are gonna be like that, that, that's fun to, to think through things on the fly and be like, okay, the Bible has answers. Let's go to the word and let's think how the strings all connect and things like that. But yeah, preaching would be difficult. It would be more devotional. I think you just open your Bible and start talking through it. Yeah. What does this mean? Or where we see examples does, yeah. For this book, the Bible, it tells you, so there you go. There's your sermon. Sun Security have your outline. Could be a song too. It sounds like at the beginning of a good song. It sounds like it. Not a drunker, not violent, not quarrelsome. Not greedy. There we go. That's a lot. That's what he's talking about. Yeah. And then are we meeting in June? We are meeting in, or that is June, July. July is you, me? You knew that, right? Yes. I do manage his own household. Okay. Gotta make sure my kids are in order between now and then. That's right. Better hope that Josh doesn't set the building on fire. Annie's the one you really need to pay attention to though. She's the firecracker. She's the, because she's the one who's silent. She's in the background. Not ostentatious, not out there, but. Secretly I could imagine her setting the building on fire. She's gonna listen to this and be like, dad, how did he know? Yeah. Anyways hey, we've got the Rangers game coming up next Friday too, so next that, that's right. I just saw Rangers game. Hopefully it's a lot more exciting. They've been playing better since the one that you went to go see. I doubt it, man. No, they have, I was. Shocked. Appalled. I'm glad we went. Flabbergasted. Flabbergasted. Oh, so we were in seats. Get this. Did you know you were in seats? I didn't finish the sentence, man. That is bougie. I can believe you paid for seats. The, I put a parenthetical there that you should have picked up on you. We were in seats. I didn't finish the sentence. We were in seats. Continue that I did not realize. Could not see the screen. Why would you even sell those? Because the screen, isn't it's not 360, like it doesn't wrap around the whole ballpark, so you No, but you should still be able to see the screen. I would argue the screen is so important to the experience of the game that if you can't see it, they should make it abundantly clear on the ticket. You can't see the screen with the seat, so were you Right. Field like. I don't know what seats we're in. Huh? Let me think here. So there's the, yeah, I guess we were right field far, so as, almost as high as you could go. Okay. Like three seats from the top. Yep. It was section 3 24 25, somewhere in that region. And so you could see the very bottom most part of the screen, but that's it. Yeah, so I basically useless and worthless. So I was thinking, you know what, if we ever come back, I gotta make sure that I can see the screen. 'cause that adds, I'm gonna just say at least 25% more enjoyment to the game when you could see it. You'll be able to see the screen on Friday. So you will be back and you're gonna be able to see the screen. I hope not this Friday, but next Friday. Did you check it? I, based on that, I think we got the same tickets we got last year, which are okay. Those are good seats. My home plate. Yeah they were decent seats at least. Yeah, I felt, man, I was disappointed. So a, after about the fifth inning. We scooched on down to seats where you could see them. Yeah. And it felt a little guilty 'cause I didn't pay for those seats, but I did move. Yeah. If there was nobody in them okay. What's the rule on that? I don't know. I struggle with that. Somebody who shows up to a ball game in the fifth inning yeah, maybe. Maybe you got held up. Maybe you got in an accident. Maybe you got pulled over. Maybe something happened. But by and large, like the people that walk in that and they're like, oh, we're here to watch the rest of the baseball game. And they're like, sipping on their cocktails and stuff. I like, get outta here. You're not even a fan. Go away. Yeah. There's some, there are some serious fans in our section, which I was surprised by. 'cause they're the nosebleeds. Totally. But that's the fans. Yeah. Those are where the real fans hang out. Is that right? Yeah, because who else is going to the boujee people aren't gonna go pay money to go sit up there. The people that care about the game are going wanna go see the game. They're not gonna care whether or not if you're willing to sit up there, you care about the product. Maybe or you're a family that's looking to, for something to do during the vacation or your family or, yeah. Yeah. So I was the latter. Not the former. You're the family. No, you're a diehard fan. I know that. The, yeah. Below the surface. Hey, speaking of, here's a connection to June, it is in our world's Eyes pride month. And the Texas Rangers remain the only MLB club not to have a pride night. I heard that. Yeah. That made me proud of them. Ironically. In fact, even so Megan Basham, I don't know if you guys follow Megan Basham. She's a writer for The Wire and daily Wire, and she's featured prominently in other areas. She tweeted out recently. She pointed that out and she said, I'm not even a baseball fan, but I'm buying a bunch of Ranger swag. I'm gonna start cheering for them because they don't have a pro pride night. Wow. So there you go. Can't say, I agree with everything Megan says, but I do appreciate that. Yeah. Yeah. That's fair. That's fair. Alright, let's jump into the reading for the day. Seven, eight, and nine. Alright, chapter seven, we have more on the subject of sexual immorality. Pastor Rod, what should that say to us? That chapter five, half of chapter six and all chapter seven, all deal with this subject. I think maybe it has something to do with following Jesus. Something to do with following Jesus In what sense? It's good. You should do the thing. Yeah, no, I just think it's, this is, there's, Ecclesiastes is written by the same author, by King Solomon here. He said there's nothing new under the sun. And I think this particular area of sin has been a pitfall for mankind. From the very beginning and. It remains that, and I think in Solomon's writing a book on Wise Living to his son. Now, granted, maybe it's in here as well because Solomon, this was a particular pitfall for Solomon. He struggled specifically with this area of his life. And yet he's writing this book under the Spirit's guidance and inspiration to his son, and he's spending a lot of time focused on hate. Focus on being pure. You wanna live wise, live pure, and I think there's something for us to take away from that. I, I don't know that there's a lot for us to hash back out in chapter seven that we are haven't already covered. But this is a, another chapter that it's putting the sin front and center and saying, Hey, pay attention. Be careful. He does it in a, the form of a parable in verses 25 through 23 focusing in on the seductive dangers of. This particular sin and his conclusion is that we should flee from this sin. But this is, again, a chapter that is, is worth our time to read as they all are, and it calls us again to a danger that is, in particular it's a grave threat as we talked about even yesterday, that it can become ensnaring. It can become enslaving if it's left unchecked. Yeah. I love chapter seven because there's so much here. There's just it's dripping with practical advice. So looking at the first five verses, one of the things that you could be guilty of as a Christian is saying, yeah, that's the right thing without having the right spirit and response to it. And so he says to his son, dude, don't just hear my words. Keep them, keep my commandment and live. Bind them. Write them, say to wisdom, you're my sister, that this is the. This is the challenge that all Christians face. We know the right thing to do. If we're biblical Christians, we have the Bible, we know what it says, and yet whether we do it is entirely other. That's a different question and a different calculation altogether. Knowing the right thing and doing the right thing are different things, and that's why Solomon starts with this Dude, listen up. Don't just hear what I'm saying. Make sure that it's part of who you are. Make sure that you believe it, that you buy it, and that you do what it says because you can give all the lip service you want, but actually doing it's a whole different ballgame. And then he says. Don't be guilty of the young man who is simple-minded. Don't be a young woman who's just flitting. Flitter. Huh. Frittering, flitting, dancing about whatever word you want to use. Twittering, Twittering, X-ing, Facebooking about. And he said, I perceived among the simple and the youth, a young man lacking sense. A young person who just doesn't get it. And how do you know they don't get it? Because they're at the wrong place at the wrong time. They're passing along the street corner near her street, taking the road in the twilight in the evening, so they should know better, and yet they seem not to. And so this could be equally true for us. We're at the wrong place at the wrong time. There are certain places that you should not go because it's fraught with danger. There are certain. Places and times that you should not be out because you're gonna put yourself in a situation where you're gonna be among others who don't have good intentions. Have you heard your parents say, did your parents ever tell you nothing good happens after 10:00 PM I've heard the quote, the word people say that, right? That's all. Parents say some variation of that because it's true by and large the kind of people that you're gonna be around after a certain hour. It's just not helpful. People. Yeah, it's not a helpful place to be in. There's certain drivers on the road at that time, and so the writer here, Solomon. It's telling a sun, sun, listen close. Don't go to the wrong place. Don't be there at the wrong time because you're gonna find the very thing that your sinful heart could probably crave, which is the kind of person who's gonna lead you in the wrong direction. So again this psalm rather, this proverb is dripping with wisdom, which is why it's in the wisdom literature. Squeeze it for Ellsworth. There's a, there's more than what I just noticed here. There's a lot more. So have fun in that one. Yeah. And. I think the other appropriate response to this is the concept of taking heed lest we fall. If this is something that you're thinking, I would never, or I could never, or I never have, or this is not an issue for me, I think it's still, I imperative that we in, you say, okay, how can I make sure that I continue to guard my way and guard my path? Because in verse 26, it says, many a victim, she has laid low. And so this is not just a bunch of stupid senseless people that are going after this. The act is stupid and senseless. But if you think that you are above and beyond this, that this could never ever happen to you, pride comes before the fall. And this is a particular area that the enemy delights to tempt us sin. So be careful on that and stay close to the Lord and far from her path if you want to avoid that. Nothing good happens after 10. Is that why we don't have lock-ins for the youth? That's right. Alright. That's the only reason why. There you go. Okay. Otherwise we would, otherwise, yeah. Although maybe Lewis should have lock-ins, I think we should start doing them again. For sure. Yeah, definitely. Sounds good. Alright. Chapter eight then. Chapter eight, the blessings of wisdom versus one through 11. We've got wisdom's loud invitation, and I love this because. Wisdom is not hidden. The wisdom of God is not concealed. And this is hard because it is and it's not right. It is in the sense that second Corinthians chapter four, it tells us that the God of this world has blinded the eyes of the lost to keep them from seeing essentially the wisdom of God and understanding the wisdom of God. But for those that desire the wisdom of God, she is available. It is available. No one is gonna be able to stand at the great white throne and say, but I never. I never could know, I never could find you. You didn't make yourself knowable. I guess that's the thing. You didn't make yourself knowable. And that's Paul's argument in Romans chapter one, that God has displayed his existence in creation. And I think there's an element of that here in. Proverbs chapter eight in the beginning here, that wisdom is not retreating. Wisdom is not hiding in the caves and under the rocks. Wisdom is here and she is available for those that will turn to her invitation. And her invitation is there in verses four, down through 11 that she's calling and saying, come to me. Learn sense here for I will speak and my lips will utter what is right and what is true. And so this is the beginning of chapter eight, the the invitation of wisdom. Verse 13. I love, I just wanna point this, someone one out real quick here. Take the take this for what it's worth. The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. I love how polarizing that is because it reminds us that to truly love the Lord, it does require hatred. If we truly love the right and the good, we will of necessity hate evil, anything that threatens that which is right and good and true. And so does hatred have a place in the Christian life? Absolutely. It does. It's not toward people. We don't hate people. We do hate evil though. And sometimes those lines can get blurry. But ultimately our hatred and our fight, as Paul reminds us, is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, the principalities and powers of this present darkness. And so therefore one of the things that you should look for as you mature in crisis, that you have a growing hatred of that which is evil. That'd be a, that'd be a really good sign as Proverbs eight 15 point out. 13. Eight 13. So the statement, God hates the sin but not the sinner. True or false, it's not entirely accurate. God has a love for the world in the sense that God has made his love available in Christ for all those who will repent and bow the knee to Jesus. But as we read in Psalm chapter five, there is a real sense in which God hates those who do evil. They are his enemies. In fact, that's what Paul says about all of us. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. We were his enemies. We were at enmity with God. We opposed God. All of us at one time stood in the cross hairs of his righteous indignation because we fought against him. We were the rebels, and that's what makes grace so amazing, is that he reaches out to save us, to renew us, redeem us, and call us his own. Even while in the very act of our hatred, he makes us brand new. That's what makes the gospel. Yeah. This is all part of the first appeal of wisdom, which is verses 12 there through 21 verse 17. Note, it says, I love those who love me and those who seek me diligently, find me. And that's an encouragement to us as Christians, that if you wanna grow in wisdom, if you want to grow in your knowledge and understanding of the Lord, the fear of the Lord, the hatred of evil. You will give yourself over to that pursuit. God's promise here is you will find wisdom, you will grow in wisdom. And that's in, in verse 17. I love those who love me. Cultivating a love for the wisdom of God will result in finding reward therein. After this, in verses 22 through 31, it talks about wisdom's role in creation. And some have taken this and tried to make this about Jesus. That this is wisdom personifying Christ or Christ personifying wisdom eventually that, that, that's what. Is being appealed to here. I don't take it as such. I don't know. PR if you have thoughts on that. I see why people make the connection, but I don't particularly make the connection. I think it presses it too far. And there's a couple things there that you're, it is just hard to see the connection in that. Yeah. We would not be the first to make that connection. Lots of people do. In fact godly men have written about this particular section, ultimately pointing to Christ as being the agent by which God created all things. So it would be true to say that Jesus is the Creator, and you could say that the Father possessed him at the beginning of the work and that he was utilizing the agency of Christ who do his creative work. However, I would agree that applying Proverbs eight to Jesus is problematic. For a lot of reasons, but I don't think you have to put those two pieces together. You can say in a generic sense, Christ is the wisdom of God. And he used that wisdom to create all things and that God the Father, used the agency of Christ to create. But to say that Proverbs eight is a reference to Christ as a harder. A harder pill for me to swallow. Yeah, I would agree. Yeah. Chapter eight ends with a second appeal there from wisdom. Again, it says in verse 32. Now, as sons listen to me and blessed are those who keep my ways, hear instruction and be wise and do not neglect it. So again, a call here in chapter eight for wisdom's appeal here. In chapter nine, then chapter Nine's unique and it's unique because it sets up the call of wisdom against the Call of Folly or foolishness. And the Book of Proverbs, a lot of it is gonna juxtapose wise living and foolish living. And here in chapter nine, the first 12 verses deal with the Call of Wisdom. And you'll note that it's. Similar to what we've read before, verse four, whoever is simple, let him turn in here. Leave your simple ways, verse six, and live and walk in the way of insight. Do not reprove a scoffer. He's gonna go on and give nuggets of wisdom there in verses five through 12 that are part of wisdom's call. But then if you jump down to verse. Verse 13, the woman folly is allowed. She's seductive and knows nothing, and she calls and notice in verse 16, her call is the same as the call of wisdom. Whoever is simple, let him turn in here. And to him who lacks sense, she appeals to that one as well. So this is sanctification personified. This is what it looks like to walk as a believer. You're gonna have the foolish call every single day, and you're gonna call, have the call of wisdom, the call of God every single day. And those calls are gonna. Sound both appealing and at times they mo may both look similar to each other, and yet it's gonna be on us to do the extra level of thought and processing to figure out, okay, where does this path lead? Where does this path lead? Which path is the right path to trod? Like we talked about, I think in yesterday's episode, pondering the path of our feet before we make any decision on where we should go so that we can discern, are we listening to wisdom or are we listening to food? Foolishness and folly. Amen. And then probably the most practical way that we can discern that is whether or not we are making it a point to let God's word dwell richly within us. This is what Colossians chapter three says, we're to let the word of Christ dwell richly. And honestly, I don't trust my mind. I don't trust myself because wisdom is offered from so many different. Areas, especially today, we have a glut of information. You can get knowledge and even some wisdom from all the various platforms that are afforded us. Today, more than any other day in human history, we can access the most brilliant and thoughtful minds that walk the planet. Not just in our local vicinity, not just in our neighborhood, at our churches, we can hear almost anybody from anywhere. And that's a wonderful tool. And yet today, more than ever, wisdom is needed to discern the good from the bad. From the ugly. Yeah. And so Proverbs nine is a warning for us. Wisdom and Folly both call out and they have a very similar call. They both call to the same people Group. If you're needing wisdom, you need some understanding here, come listen to me. And today you can do that so easily. You can listen to a YouTube sermon, you could listen to a podcast. You can listen to an influencer on TikTok or Instagram or any number of these mediums. And your job is to be so full of the word of God that you can have a discernment filter that allows you to take the good and spit out the bad. And there's a lot of bad. Yep. You must be filled with the word of God to discern that you need the wisdom of God to discern all the information that's coming your way. And now it's needed more than ever. Yeah. Let's pray towards that end. God, we do ask that you would give us the discernment to be able to sort through all of the information that does come our way on a daily basis, whether it be through social media or through the websites that we visit, or through email inbox, or just in conversations with other people who are also influenced by all of these things. God, we want to be discerning in who we give our ears to and who we allow it to fill our minds and influence our thought life. God, we know that so much of what we take in impacts. What comes out of us eventually. So we want to take in that which is good for us, that which is in accordance with your wisdom, so that we will be people who can navigate this world in a way that pleases you and exalt Christ. So we pray this all in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Keep reading Bibles. Tune in again tomorrow for another edition of the Daily Bible Podcast. See you later. Bye.
