I can honestly say that breathwork has completely changed

Speaker:

We need modalities like breathwork to help

Speaker:

us to face the unpredictable situations that

Welcome to Krystal Rowe Impacts, a space dedicated to

Speaker:

empowering you to be the change that your bloodline has been waiting

Speaker:

for. Join me and together, let's inspire change. Kia

Speaker:

ora and welcome back to the Krystal Rowe Impact Podcast. And

Speaker:

today I have my amazing husband joining me and

Speaker:

we're actually going to share a little bit about the

Speaker:

breathwork journey that TJ has embarked on

Speaker:

recently to actually elevate the

Speaker:

work that I have been doing. So together we

Speaker:

are combining our modalities, we're combining

Speaker:

our experiences and we're combining our passion to

Speaker:

be able to bring to you just

Speaker:

an amazing experience. But before

Speaker:

we do that, if you haven't heard of Breathwork, I'm going to get TJ

Speaker:

to explain just briefly about what

Speaker:

it is and then we'll explain how it's actually impacted

Speaker:

Thank you, my love, amazing. Thank you for having me

Speaker:

here. And yeah, so if you have been living under a rock and

Speaker:

you don't know much about breathwork, breathwork

Speaker:

has been around basically since man has been here.

Speaker:

A lot of countries have been doing breathwork techniques

Speaker:

for tens of thousands of years. These

Speaker:

techniques help us

Speaker:

in so many ways. I first got interested in

Speaker:

doing breathwork because I was intrigued in it. And I've done a couple of

Speaker:

breathwork techniques with people, and I

Speaker:

just love the way it makes me feel. It calms

Speaker:

me, relaxes me, and stuff like that. So I dug deeper, got

Speaker:

into it, and yeah, so there's

Speaker:

different techniques to activate and

Speaker:

to rest our nervous system. So there's

Speaker:

the parasympathetic nervous system, which is these

Speaker:

breath works to help calm yourself. And then there's a

Speaker:

sympathetic nervous system exercises or

Speaker:

techniques, a bit like the Wim Hof techniques, where

Speaker:

you're activating your body. You're putting yourself in these uncomfortable

Speaker:

situations where And

Speaker:

then you use your breath to calm yourself down.

Speaker:

So what you're doing, you are basically retraining

Speaker:

yourself to be calm and peaceful in

Speaker:

uncomfortable situations in life. And I've

Speaker:

been loving this journey. I do this thing called dynamic breath

Speaker:

work every morning, and then can follow that with a cold shower.

Speaker:

And at first, I was like, ugh. But honestly,

Speaker:

you cannot have a cold shower and feel like shit when you get out. It's just

Speaker:

amazing. But yeah, all these different

Speaker:

modalities with the breath has really

Speaker:

impacted the way I live today. Yeah,

Speaker:

one of my main goals was to just create peace and

Speaker:

calm within. No matter what is going on on the outside world, I

Speaker:

just wanted to create this peace and harmony and calmness within

Speaker:

inside me. So yeah, I have

Speaker:

Yeah. And when you did get tested, it

Speaker:

was quite amazing to

Speaker:

see how this breath work had become a way of

Speaker:

So I've been doing this breath for quite a while, creating this peace and

Speaker:

calm within. Chris

Speaker:

and I went down to pick up pizza for our kids, and there

Speaker:

was a couple of drunk guys outside the pizza shop. So

Speaker:

I walked in, one walked straight into me. So do

Speaker:

that to me two years ago, it would have been such a different outcome. So

Speaker:

I sort of just looked at him and said, you all right, mate? He's like,

Speaker:

yeah, I'm all right. And I started beefing up, like wanted to go,

Speaker:

man. And I totally ignored him. I walked in, I grabbed the

Speaker:

pizza. And then as I was walking back to the car,

Speaker:

him and his mate sort of surrounded me and were

Speaker:

like just mouthing off all these, you know, nasty names.

Speaker:

I'm not going to get into too much detail, but yeah, I

Speaker:

carried on walking to the car and they basically attacked

Speaker:

me. One gave me a king shot in

Speaker:

the chin. And even after that, I was like, still

Speaker:

Yeah, it was like watching a movie. It was like you did, you stepped

Speaker:

I stepped back and I was like, oh, okay. I felt like I'm

Speaker:

not reacting. What's wrong with me? And

Speaker:

then I still didn't react. So then I was just trying to, trying to

Speaker:

deter away from it. Like, you know, to calm it

Speaker:

And then before you know it, one guy had gone around the back of

Speaker:

the car and came for me from behind. Crystal yells at him and says, baby,

Speaker:

behind you. So as I turned, this other guy had a half

Speaker:

beer, schooner, a glass of beer, and

Speaker:

he actually threw it at my head. And

Speaker:

luckily, growing up on the streets where I grew up

Speaker:

on, I was able to defend myself. I didn't want to fight

Speaker:

or nothing like that because I had created this peace and calm within. But

Speaker:

I was able to defend myself with these two guys and get

Speaker:

away from the situation in one piece, except

Speaker:

So even then, even then though, like, I'm going to just

Speaker:

quickly but because it was a bit more dramatic than that. I

Speaker:

was sitting in the car and honestly, it was

Speaker:

probably it was like a movie. And so

Speaker:

when this guy has like, throw in this cup, it's

Speaker:

actually smashed on TJ's head, and

Speaker:

it exploded all over the car. Like, it was a big cup,

Speaker:

and there was glass on top of the car, over the windscreen, and on

Speaker:

the bonnet. And then from there, like he was saying, like downplaying

Speaker:

it a bit, he, you know, was able to defend himself, but

Speaker:

what happened was he, like, moved them, and he was fighting both

Speaker:

of them. And I'm watching, and this one's coming this

Speaker:

way, and he's fighting that way, and then that way, there's both of

Speaker:

them. But in a moment, one of the

Speaker:

drunker guys that, when we arrived, was barely able to

Speaker:

stand, he went over and flipped a trolley over to

Speaker:

try and take a wheel off, which seemed to, trying to

Speaker:

Long story short, we got in the car and we've noticed just

Speaker:

TJ's back of his head bleeding

Speaker:

like bad. And we ended up at

Speaker:

the emergency. You got five staples in

Speaker:

the back of your head. So it wasn't like a little scratch.

Speaker:

But from that experience, even through

Speaker:

that whole process, you seemed, from

Speaker:

I was calm. backtrack a little bit, we actually took the

Speaker:

pizza home and we sat down and had pizza with the kids at first. Wrapped

Speaker:

your head up? Wrapped the head up and had pizza with the kids and

Speaker:

We had to wait for somebody to come over so we could go and

Speaker:

And we told the kids we've got a work meeting at 8 o'clock at

Speaker:

We did went and tell them the whole story the next day but It

Speaker:

was in reflection, and I think this is the key point

Speaker:

to how powerful breathwork is,

Speaker:

that you used to be a scrapper. Is that fair to

Speaker:

say, my love? Like, any chance that you got, you'd be on the piss. Somebody

Speaker:

looked you the wrong way, you guys would fight. Like, I mean, that's the world today.

Speaker:

That's sort of the norm. You had to learn how to defend yourself.

Speaker:

And you've grown now to a point where you

Speaker:

were literally attacked by these two unpredictable

Speaker:

And honestly, I feel that was a test. Yeah. It was a test to

Speaker:

Like, because I haven't been in a situation like that for years, you

Speaker:

know what I mean? And it was a test and I took it and I

Speaker:

was quite proud of myself the way I handled it. And

Speaker:

Yeah. It's like proof that in

Speaker:

those high stressful situations that

Speaker:

you once probably would have reacted to out of enrage or

Speaker:

whatever that you were able, your body just took over in

Speaker:

a way. Yes, you defended yourself, but also your body took over in

Speaker:

a stressful, noticed a stressful situation and

Speaker:

And the calm down was like instant. Like I was completely calm

Speaker:

I was completely traumatized. But that's probably another

Speaker:

podcast though. The PTSD that

Speaker:

I experienced, I think it

Speaker:

took three weeks to get over it, but

Speaker:

I was traumatized. Like, I can even feel myself now,

Speaker:

like it was... But that was my opportunity to jump in and teach

Speaker:

her breath. And I had to use that, use

Speaker:

the... modalities and the

Speaker:

work and actually put it into play to

Speaker:

get through that, because it was terrifying and

Speaker:

it was not the situation as such, but

Speaker:

the what if. I think when we live in

Speaker:

a world today, we need modalities like breathwork

Speaker:

to help us to face the unpredictable situations

Speaker:

that we can be in at no fault of our own. You

Speaker:

know, we were literally getting pizza for an early dinner. It

Speaker:

was like seven o'clock at night. You know,

Speaker:

literally getting dinner for our family. And unfortunately,

Speaker:

that is the world that we live in. And you know, sometimes we are taught

Speaker:

to be prepared by how

Speaker:

you grew up, you know? Be tough, be this, be

Speaker:

that. Perceive this certain exterior to

Speaker:

face the world, but now we're living in such a dangerous world.

Speaker:

But yeah, in saying all that too though, that was even

Speaker:

like, that was a push for me to want to start these men retreats

Speaker:

for men like that, you know? I had no hate or

Speaker:

nothing towards these men as I was driving away. And

Speaker:

that's when I knew that I had changed as well. Like,

Speaker:

Yeah, you did. And that's the

Speaker:

Yeah. And I just want to acknowledge you for taking that journey to

Speaker:

be that beacon of

Speaker:

light for other men like yourself to

Speaker:

be able to experience and use these tools. use

Speaker:

this beautiful breathwork modality and this toolkit in

Speaker:

life to overcome and heal and be

Speaker:

I can honestly say that breathwork has completely changed

Speaker:

my life. Like I've even created this on my own little motto

Speaker:

that I tell myself when I get into tough or

Speaker:

difficult situations is, if I can breathe, I can choose. So

Speaker:

yeah, what if you were to go into a situation and you

Speaker:

haven't been doing any breathwork exercises or

Speaker:

techniques, just ask yourself, how

Speaker:

would the outcome be without the breath? How

Speaker:

would the outcome be if you haven't created this peace and calm within?

Speaker:

For me, I know if I hadn't done these breathwork techniques in

Speaker:

that situation, the outcome would have been a

Speaker:

whole lot worse, not for just myself, but for my

Speaker:

family as well. And family is my number one thing to

Speaker:

me and is important to me. So yeah,

Speaker:

the breath, honestly, we get life from our breath, but these

Speaker:

So whanau, you heard it here from the man himself that

Speaker:

breathwork can actually change your life. So make sure that
