Here is your host, Randy Black.

Speaker 2 00:00:47

In the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, we encounter the powerful story of Jairus, a synagogue leader.

Speaker 2 00:00:58

Who comes to Jesus in desperation, pleading for him to save his dying daughter.

Speaker 2 00:01:06

As Jesus agrees to go to his house, the situation though turns dire.

Speaker 2 00:01:12

And word comes that the girl has died.

Speaker 2 00:01:16

But Jesus, undeterred by the finality of death, enters the home and raises the girl back to life

Speaker 2 00:01:25

This miracle reveals not only Jesus' authority over death, but also the importance of faith in the face of despair.

Speaker 2 00:01:37

As we do each week, let's open up our lesson with a prayer.

Speaker 2 00:01:43

Heavenly Father.

Speaker 2 00:01:45

We come before you in awe of your power and grace as we study this miracle from your word, the miracle of Jesus raising Jariz's daughter.

Speaker 2 00:01:55

We ask for your spirit to open our hearts and minds to the lessons within.

Speaker 2 00:02:01

Help us to grow in faith, even in moments of fear and doubt.

Speaker 2 00:02:07

Knowing that nothing is impossible for you.

Speaker 2 00:02:12

Guide us in understanding your truth and help us to apply it to our lives today.

Speaker 2 00:02:20

In Jesus' name we pray.

Speaker 2 00:02:22

Amen.

Speaker 2 00:02:28

Matthew chapter nine, verse eighteen.

Speaker 2 00:02:32

While he spake these things unto them, behold,

Speaker 2 00:02:34

Behold, there came a certain ruler and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead, but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

Speaker 2 00:02:46

Verses 23 through 26

Speaker 2 00:02:49

And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, he said unto them, Give place, for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth.

Speaker 2 00:03:03

And they laughed him to scorn.

Speaker 2 00:03:05

But when the people were put forth, he went in and took her by the hand, and the maid arose, and the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.

Speaker 2 00:03:19

Mark chapter 5, verses 21 through 24.

Speaker 2 00:03:23

And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him, and he was nigh unto the sea.

Speaker 2 00:03:32

And behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jarus by name.

Speaker 2 00:03:38

And when he saw him, he fell at his feet

Speaker 2 00:03:40

and besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death.

Speaker 2 00:03:45

I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed, and she shall live.

Speaker 2 00:03:52

And Jesus went with him, and much people followed him,

Speaker 2 00:03:55

and thronged him.

Speaker 2 00:03:57

Verses thirty-five through forty-three.

Speaker 2 00:04:00

While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead.

Speaker 2 00:04:07

Why troublest thou the master any further?

Speaker 2 00:04:11

As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

Speaker 2 00:04:19

And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter and James, and John the brother of James.

Speaker 2 00:04:25

And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

Speaker 2 00:04:32

And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep?

Speaker 2 00:04:37

The damsel is not dead.

Speaker 2 00:04:39

but sleepeth, and they laughed him to scorn.

Speaker 2 00:04:43

But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him

Speaker 2 00:04:50

And entereth in where the damsel was lying.

Speaker 2 00:04:52

And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Tallethakumi, which is, being interpreted damsel, I say unto thee, Arise.

Speaker 2 00:05:02

And straightway the damsel arose, and walked.

Speaker 2 00:05:10

And he charged them straightly that no man should know it, and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

Speaker 2 00:05:22

Luke chapter 8, verses 40 through 42.

Speaker 2 00:05:26

And it came to pass that when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him, for they were all waiting for him.

Speaker 2 00:05:34

him.

Speaker 2 00:05:34

And behold, there came a man named Jarus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue, and he fell down at Jesus' feet and besought him that he would come into his house, for he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and

Speaker 2 00:05:48

And she lay a dying.

Speaker 2 00:05:50

But as he went the people thronged him.

Speaker 2 00:05:53

Verses 49 through 56.

Speaker 2 00:05:56

While he had spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead.

Speaker 2 00:06:04

Trouble not the master.

Speaker 2 00:06:05

But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not, believe only, and she shall be made whole.

Speaker 2 00:06:12

And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in save Peter and James and John, and the father and the mother.

Speaker 2 00:06:19

Of the maiden, and all wept and bewailed her.

Speaker 2 00:06:22

But he said, Weep not, she is not dead, but sleepeth.

Speaker 2 00:06:26

And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.

Speaker 2 00:06:29

And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.

Speaker 2 00:06:35

And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway, and he commanded to give her meat.

Speaker 2 00:06:40

And her parents were astonished, but he charged them that they should tell no man what was her.

Speaker 2 00:06:44

was done.

Speaker 2 00:06:47

The story of Jeris's daughter unfolds across these three Gospels, and each account gives us slightly different perspectives on this miraculous event.

Speaker 2 00:06:58

What remains

Speaker 2 00:06:59

Consistent, however, is the faith of Jairus, the seemingly, seeming finality of death, and Jesus' response to both.

Speaker 2 00:07:11

In Matthew's account, Jairus approaches Jesus with a heart full of faith, declaring that if Jesus were to lay his hand on his daughter, she would live, even though she may already be dead.

Speaker 2 00:07:26

This strong faith sets the stage for the miracle that is to come.

Speaker 2 00:07:31

Despite the mourners and the disbelief around him.

Speaker 2 00:07:34

Jesus' calm assurance that the maid is not dead, but sleepeth demonstrates his divine authority over life and over death

Speaker 2 00:07:46

Mark's account includes more details, such as Jesus' instruction to Jairus to be not afraid, only believe, when the news of his of his daughter's death reaches them.

Speaker 2 00:07:58

This is extremely significant as it underscores the importance of faith in the face of overwhelming despair.

Speaker 2 00:08:07

Jesus is not just asking for belief in his ability to heal, but in his power to overcome death itself.

Speaker 2 00:08:16

Jesus' words, Talathakumi, translated as Damsel, I say unto thee, arise, serves as a powerful reminder that his word brings life where there was none

Speaker 2 00:08:29

Luke highlights the emotional aspect of the story, particularly the sorrow and the disbelief of those mourning this girl's death.

Speaker 2 00:08:39

Their reaction to Jesus' words, that the girl is only sleeping, was one of scorn and of laughter, which reveals how entrenched they were in their understanding of death as the ultimate end.

Speaker 2 00:08:54

But Jesus' actions show that in him, death does not have to have the final say.

Speaker 2 00:09:01

By taking the girl by the hand and calling her back to life,

Speaker 2 00:09:06

Jesus demonstrates his compassion and authority over the grave.

Speaker 2 00:09:13

This story is not just about physical resurrection

Speaker 2 00:09:17

but also about the spiritual life that Jesus offers to all who believe in him.

Speaker 2 00:09:23

His power over death.

Speaker 2 00:09:25

foreshadows his own resurrection and points to the eternal life that believers have in him.

Speaker 2 00:09:34

We have five key takeaways from these passages of scripture today from this miracle.

Speaker 2 00:09:40

Number one is that faith is looking at faith in Jesus' power or having faith in Jesus' power.

Speaker 2 00:09:46

Jarrus's belief that Jesus could heal and even raise his daughter from the dead was an essential component of this miraculous event.

Speaker 2 00:09:55

His willingness to seek out Jesus in desperation showed his trust in Christ's authority over life.

Speaker 2 00:10:05

This faith sets an example for us to come to Jesus with our needs, knowing that he is able to do far more than we can ever imagine.

Speaker 2 00:10:16

The miracle demonstrates that even in the most dire circumstances, faith in Jesus opens the door for God's power to work.

Speaker 2 00:10:27

Faith is not merely belief in what we can see, but in the unseen power of God

Speaker 2 00:10:36

Our second takeaway is that Jesus is, Jesus has the authority ultimately over death.

Speaker 2 00:10:44

The raising of Jairus' daughter clearly shows that Jesus has power not just over sickness, but over death itself

Speaker 2 00:10:52

The miracle serves as a foreshadowing of his own resurrection and the ultimate victory over death that he would achieve.

Speaker 2 00:11:01

For believers, it offers us reassurance that the physical death is not the final word, because Jesus holds the keys to eternal life

Speaker 2 00:11:10

His command, Talitha Kumi, proves that death for Jesus is only a temporary state, one that can be reversed.

Speaker 2 00:11:21

And we're reminded that in Jesus there is no situation too far gone for him to restore life.

Speaker 2 00:11:30

Our third takeaway is the importance of believing in the impossible

Speaker 2 00:11:35

When Jairus heard that his daughter had died, it would have been easy for him to lose hope.

Speaker 2 00:11:42

Yet Jesus called him to continue believing even when the situation seemed impossible.

Speaker 2 00:11:49

This teaches us to maintain faith even when everything around us suggests otherwise

Speaker 2 00:11:57

Our faith must extend beyond what we see and embrace the reality that with God

Speaker 2 00:12:05

All things are possible.

Speaker 2 00:12:07

Believing in the impossible opens the door for God's miraculous intervention in our lives

Speaker 2 00:12:15

Our fourth takeaway is that we must see and have compassion in the midst of sorrow.

Speaker 2 00:12:23

And Jesus is that example.

Speaker 2 00:12:25

Jesus did not simply perform a miracle and then leave.

Speaker 2 00:12:29

He was deeply moved by the grief of the parents and the situation at hand.

Speaker 2 00:12:35

His actions in taking the girl by the hand and raising her with care show that his miracles come from a place of deep compassion.

Speaker 2 00:12:45

It reminds us that Jesus is not indifferent to our suffering.

Speaker 2 00:12:50

He sees and cares about the emotional and physical struggles we face.

Speaker 2 00:12:57

His compassionate nature is central to his ministry, and it should encourage us as Christians to turn toward him in our own times of need.

Speaker 2 00:13:08

And our fifth takeaway is looking at overcoming doubt and ridicule.

Speaker 2 00:13:18

The crowd mocked Jesus when he said the girl was merely sleeping, showing their disbelief in his ability to raise her.

Speaker 2 00:13:26

However, their doubt did not prevent the miracle from happening.

Speaker 2 00:13:32

Jesus often works beyond the limits of human understanding, and our faith should not be shaken by the skepticism of others

Speaker 2 00:13:42

This teaches us to remain steadfast in our faith, trusting in Jesus' power, even when others

Speaker 2 00:13:51

Do not believe.

Speaker 2 00:13:52

The scorn of others is irrelevant when it comes to the power of God, which operates beyond our own human comprehension

Speaker 2 00:14:05

The story of Jaris's daughter presents us with a vivid picture of faith in the face of despair.

Speaker 2 00:14:12

Jarus' position as a synagogue ruler could have caused him to hesitate before approaching Jesus, especially given the growing tension between the religious leaders and Jesus during that time.

Speaker 2 00:14:25

Yet his love for his daughter overcame any pride or fear he had.

Speaker 2 00:14:32

This teaches us that when we are faced with desperate circumstances,

Speaker 2 00:14:37

We must approach Jesus with humility and faith, trusting in his power to intervene

Speaker 2 00:14:45

Jesus' response to the news of the girl's death is equally powerful.

Speaker 2 00:14:49

When others have given up, Jesus encourages Jairus not to fear, but to believe

Speaker 2 00:14:57

How often do we face moments when all seems lost?

Speaker 2 00:15:02

In those times, we are called to remember that Jesus has the final say, not our circumstances.

Speaker 2 00:15:11

His words to Jarrus can resonate in our own hearts.

Speaker 2 00:15:16

Fear not, believe only.

Speaker 2 00:15:21

Furthermore, this story speaks to the nature of Jesus' miracles.

Speaker 2 00:15:25

The crowd ridiculed him for claiming the girl was only sleeping.

Speaker 2 00:15:30

Their laughter represents the doubt that so often accompanies our human understanding of God's ways.

Speaker 2 00:15:37

But Jesus shows that in him death is not the end.

Speaker 2 00:15:41

It's merely a transition.

Speaker 2 00:15:44

This truth can offer comfort to those who mourn and those who fear death, as Jesus' resurrection power brings eternal hope.

Speaker 2 00:15:55

Lastly, we see that Jesus was moved with compassion.

Speaker 2 00:15:59

He did not simply raise the girl and leave.

Speaker 2 00:16:02

He instructed her parents to give her something to eat, showing his care for her physical needs as well.

Speaker 2 00:16:09

This small detail reminds us that Jesus is not only concerned with the grand miracles, but also with the small everyday needs of our lives

Speaker 2 00:16:23

As we do each week, let's close out our scripture section of this or scripture lesson of the podcast with a prayer.

Speaker 2 00:16:32

Lord, we thank you for your power over life and death and for the faith you inspire in us through the story of Jaris' daughter.

Speaker 2 00:16:42

Help us to trust you, even in the most hopeless situations, knowing that you were always in control.

Speaker 2 00:16:51

May we be encouraged to bring our fears, doubts, and sorrows to you

Speaker 2 00:16:59

Believing that you have that final say.

Speaker 2 00:17:03

Strengthen our faith and remind us daily that in you there is always hope and there is always life.

Speaker 2 00:17:13

We ask this in your mighty name in the name of your son, Jesus.

Speaker 2 00:17:18

Amen.

Speaker 2 00:17:40

The idea is that we are providing value to you.

Speaker 2 00:17:43

And whatever you see.

And that can come in different forms.

Speaker 2 00:17:52

We talk about it with the idea of time, talent, and treasure.

Speaker 2 00:17:56

Time is just something as simple as listening to the show, sharing it with others.

Speaker 2 00:18:01

Talent would be offering to assist us with the show.

Speaker 2 00:18:05

I want to be a part of that.

How can I be involved on the show?

How can I take part and record with you

Speaker 2 00:18:30

And the last area, of course, is treasure.

Speaker 2 00:18:31

Treasure would be the idea of providing financial support in some way.

Speaker 2 00:18:35

It does cost us money to create this show and to host it online.

Speaker 2 00:19:28

Prayer requests for this week again.

Speaker 2 00:19:30

Remember my dad.

Speaker 2 00:19:31

He received uh news at the doctor on Wednesday of what his treatment plan looks like.

Speaker 2 00:19:38

And it looks like we're going to be looking at.

Speaker 2 00:19:40

Once he starts six to nine weeks of treatment, depending on how he responds and how things go.

Speaker 2 00:19:40

.

Speaker 2 00:19:45

So lift him up and for the healing that could occur, but also

Speaker 2 00:19:49

I I I pray and I pray every day that he comes back and starts attending church again.

Speaker 2 00:19:56

I would love to see him do so

Speaker 2 00:19:58

We have a member of the podcasting 2.

Speaker 2 00:20:00

0 community, a gentleman named Russell Harrower.

Speaker 2 00:20:03

Russell's in Australia.

Speaker 2 00:20:05

Good guy.

Speaker 2 00:20:05

Has done some tremendous work.

Speaker 2 00:20:06

He's the founder of Pod 2.

Speaker 2 00:20:08

Um, and also the founder of podid.

Speaker 2 00:20:12

org.

Speaker 2 00:20:13

Russell's had some health issues that have come up and have returned on him recently.

Speaker 2 00:20:17

His partner has as well.

Speaker 2 00:20:18

So we want to lift those uh those both of them up.

Speaker 2 00:20:20

I ask him if it would be okay for us to for me on the show as the host to share that with the audience that we might pray for him.

Speaker 2 00:20:27

And he said that he was

Speaker 2 00:20:28

More than happy to accept those prayers that we can lift him up and and help them in that situation through our prayers to the Lord

Speaker 2 00:20:36

We ought to continue to remember those folks that have been affected by the storms we've seen.

Speaker 2 00:20:41

Helene that came through Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and the damage and devastation that caused

Speaker 2 00:20:48

Uh I've seen updates from people online and it's just so so dramatic to know that some of these areas I've seen myself are just now decimated or even gone.

Speaker 2 00:20:58

But also the people who are just affected by the storm Milton that just came right through the middle of Florida just a few days ago and the devastation it has caused.

Speaker 2 00:21:07

I saw that it

Speaker 2 00:21:08

actually ripped the roof or a big part of the roof off a Tropicana field there in St.

Speaker 2 00:21:12

Petersburg near Tampa where the uh the Tampa Bay Rays play the baseball team.

Speaker 2 00:21:17

So there's this widespread stuff that needs fixed and and rebuilt there and

Speaker 2 00:21:22

Not to mention the lives that have been disrupted and people having to leave and evacuate and everything they've had to go through.

Speaker 2 00:21:29

The last prayer request I ask today is is for me.

Speaker 2 00:21:32

I mentioned myself before last week, I'm pretty sure.

Speaker 2 00:21:35

Um

Speaker 2 00:21:36

I have now been diagnosed as type 2 diabetic, and a lot of that is because of my weight, the situation I've allowed myself to get into.

Speaker 2 00:21:45

with that.

Speaker 2 00:21:46

Um start a medication for it.

Speaker 2 00:21:48

We're looking at a plans of what we're going to do.

Speaker 2 00:21:50

We have certain things we have to do insurance-wise to to do certain things.

Speaker 2 00:21:55

But I've also suffering from mild anemia.

Speaker 2 00:22:00

My iron saturation level is low.

Speaker 2 00:22:02

We're not sure why.

Speaker 2 00:22:03

They have discovered that I do have blood.

Speaker 2 00:22:08

blood in my and this is gross, I hate to talk about it, but I have blood in my stool and we're gonna have to do an examination uh for that to get that figured out and see if we can determine where that's coming from and what's causing it.

Speaker 2 00:22:19

So lift me up in prayer for that.

Speaker 2 00:22:21

I appreciate that greatly.

Speaker 2 00:22:22

But as we do each week, we're going to close out our show with that prayer to lift up those requests to the Lord.

Speaker 2 00:22:29

So please, prayer with us

Speaker 2 00:22:32

Heavenly Father, we thank you again for the chance to come together and to share your word and to learn from it.

Speaker 2 00:22:39

We come together with these requests.

Speaker 2 00:22:41

to lift them up to you that you can answer them in the way that best fits with your will.

Speaker 2 00:22:46

Remember Lord my father and the health issues he's having and the process we're going through with that and also that he might return to service for you in church.

Speaker 2 00:22:56

week.

Speaker 2 00:22:57

We lift up Russell Harrow from the Podcasting 2.

Speaker 2 00:22:59

0 community and his partner and the health issues they're facing.

Speaker 2 00:23:02

Touch them, Lord, heal them.

Speaker 2 00:23:03

And if they need you in their life in their lives.

Speaker 2 00:23:06

Please, and then your set your son as their savior, stir their hearts and and bring that conviction upon them that they can do so

Speaker 2 00:23:14

Uh remember those people who've been affected by the storms, Lord, the areas of devastation, a tremendous, tremendous amount of work moving forward to fix those areas and rebuild them.

Speaker 2 00:23:27

And Lord, I ask for myself.

Speaker 2 00:23:29

And whatever is going on, I put it into your hands that if if healing is the proper way to handle this, then

Speaker 2 00:23:37

Please, Lord, heal me.

Speaker 2 00:23:38

But if there's other plans and other things that fit with your will, Lord, may you take action to do the things that are best for that will and for my life as I continue on.

Speaker 2 00:23:49

Also, Lord, remember the unspoken request that the members of our audience may have that you can touch those needs in the way that fits with your will and the way that you need things done on this earth.

Speaker 2 00:24:00

We hope that the work we're doing is inspiring people.

Speaker 2 00:24:04

We're providing them with value.

Speaker 2 00:24:06

And that eventually that work will lead to individuals realizing that they need your son, Jesus, as their savior.

Speaker 2 00:24:14

That they can then come to heaven and spend eternity with you and with Jesus and with all of the rest of us that are saved.

Speaker 2 00:24:23

And it's in Jesus' name that we pray.

Speaker 2 00:24:25

Amen.
