Ebay shares soared last week after Meta allowed listings on Facebook's Marketplace in the US and Europe.
Speaker AAccording to CNBC, shares of eBay jumped 9% on Wednesday as Meta said it will allow some listings to show up on Facebook Marketplace.
Speaker AThe rollout will begin with a test in Germany, France, and the U.S.
Speaker Athe partnership could provide a boost to ebay's marketplace business, which has struggled to compete with e commerce rivals like Amazon, Walmart, and Temu.
Speaker AChris, do you agree with the market's reaction to ebay selling through Facebook Marketplace?
Speaker BYeah, I do.
Speaker BYep.
Speaker BA hundred percent.
Speaker BI do.
Speaker BI don't have a lot to say on this one either.
Speaker BI'm going to keep it quick and turn.
Speaker BTurn the microphone over to you.
Speaker BBut I think it's.
Speaker BI think this is a really smart move on both sides.
Speaker BI think, you know, on.
Speaker BOn ebay side, it extends their reach very nicely.
Speaker BAnd for Facebook Marketplace, too, I think it brings more trust and credibility to the platform.
Speaker AAnd me too.
Speaker BAnd also you get additional items too, which a marketplace having additional items and, you know, catches more people, catches more eyeballs.
Speaker BSo I think it's clearly a case of one plus one equals three in my mind.
Speaker BI think this is really smart.
Speaker AYeah, I agree.
Speaker AI think this opportunity really has legs, especially to, I guess, bring people back to ebay.
Speaker AI don't know if that makes sense, but, like, I think as.
Speaker AAs consumers, like, or introduce, even, like.
Speaker BI still don't really ever use ebay.
Speaker AI've never really used it.
Speaker AExactly, though.
Speaker AExactly.
Speaker AAnd again, this gets back to, like, the search game that we were talking about with Best Buy's Marketplace.
Speaker ALike, you, it.
Speaker AIf I'm going on Facebook Marketplace, which is widely used now by so many people to find everything from furniture to collectibles, you name it.
Speaker AYou know, to be able to have ebay's items plugged in like that, this is already happening so much.
Speaker ALike, I don't know how much time you spend at Facebook Marketplace, but I go there first for most things.
Speaker BAs little as possible ad as little as possible.
Speaker AFair, fair.
Speaker AI go there for most things, especially, you know, having just.
Speaker BI know you do.
Speaker AAnd so I'm telling you, there's already people who are, you know, doing palms.
Speaker AHave you heard that?
Speaker AThat acronym, like palms posted on multiple sites.
Speaker ASo, like, already posted on multiple sites.
Speaker ASo, like, you.
Speaker AThe person is posting it on Facebook Marketplace, but they're also posting it on Craigslist.
Speaker AThey're also posting it on ebay.
Speaker AThey're also posting like, this is already happening.
Speaker AThink of all of the products you could have access to.
Speaker AIf you're just uploading all of your stuff now to ebay and it's just being shot out, it's like podcasting.
Speaker ALike, you put your.
Speaker AYou upload your one piece of media and now you can put it out to all these channels where all these people can find you.
Speaker ALike, it' Brilliant.
Speaker AIt just makes so much sense.
Speaker AEbay's already got this whole system locked in and ready to go, and you already have easier accessibility to things like shipping and shipping labels, taking that work out of it for you.
Speaker ASo I think the most important thing here is just, you know, making sure that that infrastructure is in place so that the customer experience is seamless, because people are going to, you know, be one and done with this if it's not working the right way the first time.
Speaker ASo that's the only thing that I think is the watch out here is.
Speaker BIs people get angry on those Facebook groups.
Speaker BWe were talking about that at dinner yesterday.
Speaker BYeah, those Facebook groups look out, especially those Facebook bomb groups.
Speaker BThey get a hold of something, they're going to tear it apart.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AOh, my God.
Speaker AI did make some notes for you, Chris, on other things that they're talking about.
Speaker AHandyman recommendations.
Speaker AThere's a lot of things we can talk about.
Speaker BOh, God.
Speaker BI don't.
Speaker BI don't even want to know.
Speaker BI don't even want to.
Speaker BMaybe I do, but I don't.
Speaker BI don't, but I do.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BThat's the power of social media.
Speaker BYou don't want to know, but you really do.
Speaker ARight?
