Speaker A

Foreign.

Speaker B

And welcome to the Pat Accounting Podcast with me, your host, Vicki Clark.

Speaker B

I'm going to help you get to grips with your finances, save you lots of money, and take the stress out of doing your tax return.

Speaker C

So let's get going.

Speaker C

Hello, everyone.

Speaker C

For those of you who are new to our lives podcasts, and if you are listening to this on the podcast, my name is Vicky and I'm one of the owners of the Pet Accountant.

Speaker C

And with me is our lovely Tegan, who is our client manager at the Pet Accountant as well.

Speaker C

So that is who we are.

Speaker C

Usually I'm on Lee, but he is a bit tied up this afternoon, so you are stuck with us, too.

Speaker C

And if you've seen our TikToks or our videos recently, you know that we tend just to get the giggles half the time when we're trying to record something and everything takes twice as long.

Speaker C

I don't know whether it's just because we're recording, we get the giggles because I never get the giggles doing these.

Speaker C

But when we do the TikTok, I just get the giggles and we just take.

Speaker A

And I know they tell you off.

Speaker C

Yeah, Tegan tells me off for getting the giggles because it froze her off.

Speaker C

So no giggles.

Speaker C

Today.

Speaker C

We are here to talk about making Tax Digital slightly and the different softwares that are out there that people can use.

Speaker C

Because I've seen a lot of questions on the different groups about which softwares to use and what they should get.

Speaker C

And there's been some good suggestions and there's been some iffy suggestions.

Speaker C

And so I thought with us, come on, give you our ideas of what we think is a good software and why, because again, every accountancy firm is going to differ.

Speaker C

For example, we have a name for QuickBooks that isn't quite called QuickBooks, and we don't like it, we don't use it, and we just don't like it.

Speaker C

It's clunky, it crashes all the time, it kicks us off, and sometimes it wipes people's data.

Speaker C

So as a accountancy firm, we just choose not to use it.

Speaker C

But another accountancy firm might absolutely love it, and that might be the only software that they use.

Speaker C

So this is just in our humble opinion, which we think are good softwares and which we don't.

Speaker C

But like I said, if you're on QuickBooks and you love it, that's absolutely fair enough.

Speaker C

But we're just going to give you our suggestions of good softwares and then Tegan is going to talk through a bit about each of the softwares and which clients tend to go for which ones because they all differ.

Speaker C

So I'm going to start off just quickly with a little bit on making Tax Digital.

Speaker C

I'm not going to go into too much detail because we do touch on it quite a bit and there's no new info come out as of yet, so we will do a proper podcast on that once we get more info.

Speaker C

So basically making Tax Digital is essentially that you guys have to use accountancy software, it's compulsory.

Speaker C

So if you're currently using a spreadsheet or pen and paper or nothing, that will all have to change because you will have to use accountancy software.

Speaker C

That's no if, buts and maybes.

Speaker C

It is compulsory in a legal requirement.

Speaker C

So rather than HMRC doing it all at once, they're staging it.

Speaker C

So from April 2026, those of you who have got a turnover of 50 grand or more will have to go on accountancy software.

Speaker C

And that is made up of your self employment and any rental properties that you might have.

Speaker C

So if you're 50 grand or more next April, you will have to use accountancy software and then from 2027 it'll be 30 grand or more and then it goes on.

Speaker C

So if you're in that bracket, then please listen up.

Speaker C

If you're not quite in that bracket, I would still suggest getting on the software and Tegan will cover that in a sec.

Speaker C

As to why, but we just thought it would be a good time to come on, go through the different softwares, what they do, who should use each one because they vary slightly and then we'll see where we go from that point.

Speaker C

So eagerly waiting to chat.

Speaker C

I can see she's looking like, is she gonna stop?

Speaker C

So Tegan, obviously you do have a lot of people that ring up and a lot of clients.

Speaker C

What softwares do we use?

Speaker C

Like just give people a bit of a.

Speaker C

Not in depth, but just a little bit of breakdown and what they're for.

Speaker A

Yeah, so we work from three different softwares as a company, which we know that there's a couple of, well, a lot of accountants out there that will just use one that every client has to use.

Speaker A

But we like that to be an option depending on what the client's looking for, because as you said, they do differ slightly with like the capabilities of what they can offer, but they all do the same thing fundamentally on the app.

Speaker A

So it's really just gauging what that client's looking for and then talking through the different ones.

Speaker A

But like you were saying, MTD's making tax digital is starting for anyone with a turnover over 50,000 legally from next April.

Speaker A

But regardless of turnover, we always say to clients, don't we just get on the software?

Speaker A

Because you're preparing ready for like making Tax Digital and you're compliant already.

Speaker A

And software is just so much better than using spreadsheets or writing everything down because of the time it can save you, you know, writing things down, copying what's in your bank or copying your receipts and invoices.

Speaker A

As I mentioned the live last week, it is quite a lot of manual data that like you're entering.

Speaker A

So then it's very time consuming.

Speaker A

So software is a lot more efficient and there is more basic softwares than others.

Speaker A

So one that we use is called Dext and as I call it, it's like the Billy Basic one.

Speaker A

And what we mean by that is what will happen with any of the software.

Speaker A

So if you're new listening to this and you're thinking what the heck does software do and what do I do on it?

Speaker A

We always recommend having a separate bank account for your business.

Speaker A

And there's a reason, because what will happen is you connect your bank account that you use for your business to the accounting software.

Speaker A

So if you're using your personal bank account for your business, it's going to pull through everything from your life and then it's going to be a lot more time consuming trying to figure out what's what.

Speaker A

So having that separate bank account does make it a whole lot better.

Speaker A

So you connect the bank account to the app, whatever software you go for, and it'll pull through your bank transactions.

Speaker A

So it's basically like mirroring your bank feed.

Speaker A

And then a job is that you have to go through and categorize all your transactions.

Speaker A

So the other half of being on the software is the ability to take photos of your receipts and your invoices.

Speaker A

So it is like software is very secure in that sense.

Speaker A

And what people love is I know I speak to like so many dog walkers that will say, oh my glove box is full of receipts and they're crumpled up and they're fading over time.

Speaker A

Well, the great thing about getting onto accounting software is you can just take photos of them.

Speaker A

Physical paper receipts and any electronic invoices you get.

Speaker A

When you order anything online, you just forward over.

Speaker A

And then when you've taken a photo of those or forward them over, you basically match them up to to the transactions and do that like reconciliation side of it.

Speaker A

So Dex, for example, will let you do what I've just explained and that's pretty much it.

Speaker A

So all you need to do to be compliant with like the future changes of MTD to get your records to your accountant, but that's it.

Speaker A

And some, most people say, you know, I'm happy with that.

Speaker A

But then other people go, actually I want to be able to do more.

Speaker A

I want to look into my figures.

Speaker A

And that's when like Free Agent and Xero would be better because you can run reports and you can delve into your figures and you know, do your tax planning and stuff like that.

Speaker A

So what.

Speaker A

Obviously you're itch and say something just before you.

Speaker C

The free agent in Xero, just to double say what Ting said is Dex is very, very basic.

Speaker C

So if you want reports and cash flow forecasts and all of that sort of jazz, you won't get that.

Speaker C

With Dex, it is MTV combined, but it is very, very basic.

Speaker C

Some people who are not looking to grow the business, who are aware of what they're doing and they're not really bothered about the intricacies of what's going in and what's going out, then Dexter's perfect.

Speaker C

It's cheap at the minute, but like I say, it is very, very basic and it will just let you do that.

Speaker C

It's required to be compliant with mtd, so just be careful which ones you pick and obviously look at fits and drawbacks of each one.

Speaker C

But that is essentially Dex in a nutshell.

Speaker C

Very basic doesn't give you much, does what it needs to do to keep you aligned.

Speaker A

Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker A

And like, even with the categorizing on it, decks will group a lot of categories together, so there's like less to choose from.

Speaker A

Whereas obviously Free Agent and Xero, they're all individual and it has like an AI technology within it that once you've started matching your receipts and invoices up, it'll start doing it for you with 99% accuracy moving forward.

Speaker A

But I will always just chat whoever I'm on the phone with, whether that's an existing client that wants to go on software or a brand new client that wants to get on software.

Speaker A

We'll just talk through, like, what are you looking for?

Speaker A

Do you want to do your own number work or do you want to pass it over to us and we do it all because in that case we're not going to do it on decks because deck's too basic.

Speaker A

It's not going to allow us to look into your figures and report back how your business is doing and help you make improvements because we can't see Anything really.

Speaker A

So yeah, that's Dex though Dext is the Billy Basic one and then Free Agent, your favorite.

Speaker A

So it's only fair if I let you explain Free Agent because Free Agent isn't it.

Speaker C

Free Agent is my favorite.

Speaker C

Again, we all have different preferences like least favorite zero.

Speaker C

So again, you know, if there's certain softwares that you like, like if you're a QuickBooks lover, then unfortunately we wouldn't be the accountancy firm for you because we don't allow QuickBooks anymore.

Speaker C

So like I said, it's all personal preference.

Speaker C

But there's reasons behind our mad.

Speaker C

So Free Agent is my favorite.

Speaker C

It's sort of plunked in the middle.

Speaker C

It is aimed at business owners, so there's no accountancy jargon in there.

Speaker C

And it is very user friendly and it does give you your profit and loss report, gives you your balance sheet, it gives you your trial balance, it gives you a capital asset sheet, so lists all your assets, does cash flow, does invoicing, all sorts.

Speaker C

And it does have a receipt capture app and phone app as well linked into it.

Speaker C

Although they do chart for so many receipts, which is the only drawback I think with Free Agent is they do chart.

Speaker C

But as far as business owners go, if you're wanting a software that does give you that little bit extra and allows you to break down figures and is user friendly for Tech Net and frogs, especially me, um, I find Free Agent very easy and quick to use and it does everything that you need to do.

Speaker C

And then the other bonus with Free Agent is that it's free with an RBS NatWest or metal bank account.

Speaker C

So if you do want to save some pennies because I think at the minute the sole trader version of free agent is 19 pound plus bat a month but have one of the above bank accounts, the metal RBs on that west, then you do get it free and I don't think they've got any plans to change that at the minute.

Speaker C

So if you want to get a software now that's not going to cost you any money per month, then get one of those bank accounts on.

Speaker C

All it has to be is attached to it and have a couple of transactions going through one month.

Speaker C

So if you're using Starling for example and you don't want FAF transferring all your clients over, just link both banks and as long as the metal bank account is attached or the RBS bank account's attached, then you'll get it for free.

Speaker A

Do you know what I find when I speak to a lot of people they use the metal bank account as like a savings bank like for tax and stuff like that.

Speaker A

So you could just have it as an additional, like put money aside each.

Speaker C

Month and yeah, so there's, there's ways of using that second bank account and I say getting it for free decks with us is a fiver a month.

Speaker C

So that is dirt cheap.

Speaker C

Like I said, it's really basic free agent and they used to give us discounts.

Speaker C

They don't so much anymore.

Speaker C

So we don't offer free agent through us, you're just better off getting it direct.

Speaker C

We don't get any discounts.

Speaker C

A lot of the software companies used to give accountancy firms discounts but they don't anymore so.

Speaker C

And I'm feeling especially zero, I think are going to start hiking their prices up when making 10 seconds.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker C

Just because it's compulsory so people are going to have to use one of them.

Speaker C

So free agent, very, very good middle of the ground software aimed at business users, gives you all of the reports that you need, gives you an app that you can use on the go and like I said, no accountancy jargon and again is MTD compliant.

Speaker C

So if you're looking for something that's not too complex but not really basic like Dext that then free agent is the one to pick.

Speaker C

Again, what we use quite heavily with a lot of our clients and also there is a free agent guide on our website where me and Lee did some videos to show you guys how to do various things such as putting an asset in like a van or a grooming table or agility equipment, things like that, how to put them into the software properly, how to create categories, how to do an invoice, how to split payments, how to put a loan on there.

Speaker C

And again we don't go through the technical side of it and why you're putting an asset the way that you're doing it.

Speaker C

It's more just of a if you have a van, this is what you need to do guide.

Speaker C

So again that will help you massively if you are doing new bookkeeping.

Speaker A

And if I speak to sometimes, people sometimes say to me, you know what, I don't need a bookkeeper, I quite like the number work.

Speaker A

Not I, I don't hear that as often as people saying they're hating the number where but still there's our person out there that says, you know what, I like it, I want to learn to do it myself.

Speaker A

And in that instance would say, well if you want to learn about how your business is doing and be able to run the reports, go for free agent and then like if somebody's saying you know what, no, I just want basic, I want easy and I want cheap.

Speaker A

Then Dex is perfect and then there is obviously the third one, beam zero.

Speaker A

But I'm sure you'll, you'll at me upon this that most people that go for zero to do their own bookkeeping tend to go what the heck because it is more advanced than free agent decks.

Speaker C

Yeah, we get a lot of people that do their own bookkeeping on free agent.

Speaker C

We don't tend to get a lot of people that do their own bookkeeping on Xero.

Speaker C

It's a lot less and I think because Xero is a very, very good software which is the main one that we use especially for the bookkeeping side.

Speaker C

But it is aimed more at accountants and it is more bargain heavy and a bit more technical.

Speaker C

We don't have a guide for zero because I say it's, it's too complex to do.

Speaker C

Whereas Rage is not easy to do the guides for.

Speaker C

We wouldn't, it's.

Speaker C

It would just be a bit harder to do it with zero because like I said it's a bit more technical and that is aimed at accountants.

Speaker C

However, if you are okay with numbers and, and you want to give it a go then Xero probably is the best software out there because it allows you to do a lot more and a lot quicker.

Speaker C

Like it's going to take a bit more time and effort to learn how to use it and get the best out of that software.

Speaker C

But there's, it's the one we use on all of our bookkeeping packages.

Speaker C

Yeah, it's probably the most wizards and.

Speaker A

With it being advanced they can then yeah run all them reports that they know how to do and then feedback to you in like the quarterly performance packs on how your business is doing and you know you can ring up and pick apart your business and yeah, it's zeros definitely the bookkeepers and the Karen's preference other than Vic who loves.

Speaker C

Free age as I don't mind the fit.

Speaker C

Yeah I'm the only one in the company that likes free agent because everyone pretty much uses zero.

Speaker C

Like I say with our bookkeeping packages we'll always put you on zero because it comes with the Hub Doc app as well which is really really good and it's a case of just snapping a picture really quick like a receipt and it pings off to your bookkeeper and they deal with it.

Speaker C

So again there's different pros and cons of each which is why you need to do a bit of research into looking at to what is going to be best suited to you.

Speaker C

I know we get a lot of questions in all the different groups where people say, oh, what software are you using?

Speaker C

You've got to make sure that it's making Tax Digital compliant because if it isn't there's no point in getting it because change it at some point anyway.

Speaker C

And again, like I said, this is just our personal preference.

Speaker C

You could speak to another five accountants and they might all use different softwares or they might say actually QuickBooks is our number.

Speaker C

1 and 0 we hate.

Speaker C

So there's no right or wrong answer.

Speaker C

It's just what we prefer as an accountancy firm.

Speaker C

But if you're going to do your own bookkeeping, I'd always suggest free agent.

Speaker C

If you wanted a bit more support index, you're just wanting to tick the necessary boxes that you need to do to comply.

Speaker A

I think it's good that we have the option because there is like I'll speak to people and say that I can't.

Speaker A

The only software they offered was QuickBooks and Beware.

Speaker A

As you know, it's good to find out what you're looking for.

Speaker A

Do you want to grow the business?

Speaker A

Yes.

Speaker A

No, like do you want to.

Speaker A

How much are you looking to spend?

Speaker A

Do you want us to do all the number work and do the bookkeeping?

Speaker A

Because then it would be zero.

Speaker A

Or if you want to do it yourself.

Speaker A

Some people say, you know, I'm going to start on something more basic to begin and then as I get used to doing the, the basics of doom or record keeping on software, I'll then transition to something a little bit more advanced like go up to free agent or then go up to Xero.

Speaker A

So it's really just finding out like what you're looking for, the pros and cons.

Speaker A

But that's something I always chat through, you know, in detail on our initial like discovery calls with people just to see what you're looking for and then what would suit you best?

Speaker A

Because it's individual to everybody.

Speaker A

Everyone's at different stages in the business.

Speaker C

Although I don't know why anyone would want to use QuickBooks as their main software.

Speaker C

Baffles me.

Speaker C

Crap.

Speaker C

I went to go and do some self assessments on QuickBooks.

Speaker C

I couldn't get in because QuickBooks was just down.

Speaker C

They just kept kicking.

Speaker C

I just hear you screaming mud like so frustrating.

Speaker C

And I'm from a client's point of view, they're like have you done it yet?

Speaker C

And I'm Like, I would love to.

Speaker C

I can't get into QuickBooks because it's crashed.

Speaker C

And then I go look at the accountancy groups and everyone's like, oh, QuickBooks has crashed again.

Speaker C

So for me it's just not very efficient.

Speaker C

And like I said, we did use it up until this year and we just made the decision to focus on those three because we just think that Bella, with all our.

Speaker C

Well, with our self assessment packages, those have.

Speaker C

The clients are on free agent.

Speaker C

For example, we always do a bit of free bookkeeping at the beginning just to tidy everything up.

Speaker C

Because you're not accountant, we would expect you to get it right 100% of the time.

Speaker C

And there might be some categories that you've.

Speaker C

You've missed or you've categorized something as really obscure or you haven't put your van in correctly.

Speaker C

So what we do is we always spend the first hour just tiding everyone's free agent up and just making sure that it's all correct.

Speaker C

And then what happens is when we give you your tax return and your account, they will match exactly what's on free agent.

Speaker C

And there's only been a couple of times where we've had to say, people, look, it's so bad, you're going to have to go away and do something else because.

Speaker C

Yes.

Speaker C

Have I just seen a question pop up?

Speaker A

I can't see any, but I'm sure.

Speaker C

I thought it did.

Speaker C

It was just.

Speaker C

Oh, sure.

Speaker A

No, Katie said, sorry, I'm still on it.

Speaker C

He's still on QuickBooks.

Speaker C

Right.

Speaker C

We'll have to sort that out, Kim.

Speaker C

But yeah, we still.

Speaker C

We saw a couple lineups.

Speaker C

It's on there.

Speaker C

So.

Speaker C

Yeah, yeah, we are.

Speaker A

I am working through, aren't I?

Speaker C

Yeah, it's a bit of a process, but if you like I say if you're on 50 grand turnover or more and you have properties as well included in that, and that's your turnover, not your profit, all of your sales.

Speaker C

Then make sure that you get.

Speaker C

I don't know why I keep clicking that.

Speaker C

Make sure that you get some software and do some research.

Speaker C

Like I said, there's different ones can be suited to different businesses, different skill set, different wants and needs, so.

Speaker C

Or froze on and back.

Speaker C

Um, so just make sure you look at which ones are going to be suited to you.

Speaker C

But those three are our favorite.

Speaker C

QuickBooks is our most hated one.

Speaker C

And I might get a T shirt that says hashtag, I hate QuickBooks.

Speaker C

I hope.

Speaker A

Wow.

Speaker C

It's a good.

Speaker A

What if they follow.

Speaker A

What if they follow us on.

Speaker A

On a Facebook page because I do followers on Instagram and yet there's you just going QuickBooks.

Speaker C

Oh, QuickBooks.

Speaker C

Oh I don't mind.

Speaker C

Sorry but 49 fives because it's rubbish.

Speaker C

But don't see no, like I said, it's personal preference.

Speaker C

So I know.

Speaker C

I know one accountant that that's all she uses is.

Speaker A

Yeah I've come across some recently as well.

Speaker A

Somebody came to us from them and is all she's used for years.

Speaker A

She won't.

Speaker A

She won't consider any of her software.

Speaker C

So yeah, there we go.

Speaker C

I think like some groomers might prefer certain clippers and some dog walkers might.

Speaker C

Certain dog leads and different types of dog leads.

Speaker C

You just everyone's individual and that's just what we like and so that's the software.

Speaker C

Other things we just want to do a quick mention on.

Speaker C

And because some people don't know that we do this sort of stuff is products.

Speaker C

So because the wiz on Excel we come up with various different products.

Speaker C

What are you.

Speaker A

What I can hear you tapping.

Speaker A

Is it you?

Speaker C

Oh is it?

Speaker C

Because it's right next to the microphone.

Speaker C

It's fine.

Speaker C

Yeah I could do.

Speaker C

I could do it all the way through the cause and I'll tell you a trick.

Speaker C

When you're on live this is all I'm doing is if you click that so it does the likes the algorithms put your live onto people's news.

Speaker A

Everybody watching Katie, Emily, I can see you're watching.

Speaker C

You need to be liking because that then it pushes because the everything works on algorithms with I knew what you.

Speaker A

Were doing but I was trying to like fly.

Speaker C

Hear me.

Speaker A

As soon as we came on the live I could like hear like this.

Speaker C

You'll see the amount of watches go if you keep clicking it because it's the algorithm.

Speaker C

So that's what do you.

Speaker C

The background and I just click it.

Speaker A

Especially because Facebook we know and we know a lot of other people that run groups.

Speaker A

Facebook hasn't been pushing the groups or Facebook pages and our tick tock Instagram like is doing great with.

Speaker A

With obviously all like the analytics but the Facebook group especially is.

Speaker A

Is face.

Speaker A

It's like holding it back for some reason.

Speaker C

Yeah it has its quirks Facebook but yeah.

Speaker C

So the products.

Speaker C

So like I mentioned, we've got the free agent guide.

Speaker C

I'm not going to call it a course because it's not called.

Speaker C

It's a guide.

Speaker C

So it's basically loads of videos like this of me and Lee teaching you how to do certain things in the software.

Speaker A

It's not deaf by PowerPoint.

Speaker C

No, literally how to videos.

Speaker C

Click here, click here, Cut the figure in there.

Speaker C

Done.

Speaker C

So very, very useful and as clients say or people say, oh, can you add this?

Speaker C

We will add to it as it goes and you have access to that forever.

Speaker C

So very, very good tool for those are diying their bookkeeping and are a bit stuck.

Speaker A

So I'm going to give the prices.

Speaker A

I know sometimes we don't do, but I'm going to.

Speaker A

While we're going through them, I'm going to give the prices.

Speaker A

So it's £40 for the free agent tutorial and it covers yet the basics from just recording your sales and things like that to the more advanced stuff of what I love as well.

Speaker A

You did a module about what you tend to see as mistakes and how to avoid doing them.

Speaker C

Yeah, I have my set checks that I do that is usually people what they do wrong but it's all in there.

Speaker C

Grab that.

Speaker C

I'm just conscious of time.

Speaker C

So I'm just going to run.

Speaker C

Rattle through them the next course.

Speaker C

No, I'll just go and you can find how much they are.

Speaker C

I look at Business Basics course.

Speaker C

Yeah, and we have that and that was put together.

Speaker C

It was something I did years ago actually as a.

Speaker C

In.

Speaker C

Not in person but like a live like this and I went through it and I decided to do online so people could get access to it.

Speaker C

But basically the Pet Business Bracings course is for those of you who are just starting out in business.

Speaker C

So if you're 10 years in, don't get it because it won't be relevant.

Speaker C

If you're just starting out in business and you don't know what you're doing, then the Pet Business Basics course is perfect for you guys.

Speaker C

But like I said, if you're 10.

Speaker A

Years in or if you're planning on starting a business or even I've had people that have got it six months in because they're still unfamiliar with the price and all.

Speaker C

Yeah, stuff like that.

Speaker C

If you're 10 years in, don't waste your money getting it because it's for new businesses, new people starting up.

Speaker C

See, there's 11, 11 people watching now because we're pressing but so if you can press whilst our chat, then it'll be fine.

Speaker A

Are you going to quickly go through the modules?

Speaker A

I know you come to the time, but no.

Speaker A

Okay.

Speaker C

Go and check out on the website Pet Business Basics.

Speaker C

If you're new or up to a year in, then it's an invaluable resource to have.

Speaker C

Like I said, if you're 10 years in, please don't get it.

Speaker C

Another really good product that we do is the utilities calculator.

Speaker C

Now again, if you're a client, please don't buy it because we use it when we do your tax returns.

Speaker C

And the utilities calculator does what it says in the tin.

Speaker C

It calculates the amount put in to cover your utilities.

Speaker C

So if you're a home boarder and a home groomer or daycare, stuff like that, that you're working from home and the majority of your business is done from home, then the utilities calculator is perfect.

Speaker C

If you are a mobile dog groomer or a dog walker or a dog trainer, where the majority of your workers outside the home, again, the utilities calculator is not going to be for you because it you don't work from home, you would just use the flat rate that HMRC give you.

Speaker C

So if you're a home boarder, home groomer, daycare, anything that's done from your house, 90% of the time, I would definitely get the utilities calculator 100% and.

Speaker A

That'S 29.95 bargain business experience.

Speaker A

You can use it each year, can't you as well, so.

Speaker C

Exactly.

Speaker C

So you can use it every year.

Speaker C

And then basically you put in your numbers and it pops out a figure at the bottom and that's the figure you put in your tax return.

Speaker C

So it covers like council tax, electricity, water, gas, rent and mortgage interest, broadband, everything.

Speaker C

So you put all your yearly figure figures in there and then it pops out one at the bottom you to put in your tax return.

Speaker C

And people have saved a lot of money by using that because we find that people just put the bare minimum in there and then we do it and actually you can have.

Speaker A

It's like thousands save hundreds and thousands.

Speaker A

Yeah, it's really good.

Speaker A

So really some people don't know it exists.

Speaker A

We get messages on Facebook, people saying I run my business from home and do me in tax returns.

Speaker A

It's like, well.

Speaker A

And they'll start saying now how I'm a home based groomer, how do I claim for my utilities?

Speaker A

And it is hard because HMRC's allowance is so little compared to what these people are using.

Speaker A

So it's a really good way of working it out, isn't it?

Speaker A

And then you've got that backed up method of how you've come to that conclusion, that figure that you're putting on your tax return.

Speaker A

So it's a good one.

Speaker C

Yep.

Speaker C

So next up.

Speaker C

Oh, you throw me off now because he said next you Know what I was going to say because you were.

Speaker A

Steve and I heard you like.

Speaker C

Yes, I've got tax returns to do so I didn't want it to be a long one today.

Speaker C

And the next one that is really good.

Speaker C

We have various options of recording your income and expenses.

Speaker C

So we've got spreadsheets, we've got record keeping packs depending on sort of where you are and what you prefer.

Speaker C

And again they will only be available up until making Tax Digital appears because again they'll become null and void at some point.

Speaker C

You're Nowhere near that 50 grand bracket that I mentioned before.

Speaker C

And you want a spreadsheet or the record keeping path that has a lot of hints and tips and guidance in then please grab one of those.

Speaker C

And we do have.

Speaker C

Do we have any physical packs left?

Speaker A

We do.

Speaker A

We only have about.

Speaker A

I would only want to say about 10.

Speaker A

Maybe we have got an offer on them.

Speaker A

I do need to do another post just to say we have got some left because they did fly off the shelves but the code is as Summer 25 I think for 25 off.

Speaker A

Let me just quickly double check that.

Speaker A

So just pull it up.

Speaker A

We've only got a few left.

Speaker A

We won't be printing any more of the physical.

Speaker C

No.

Speaker C

So they basically physical packs that you write in and then you can send them to your accountant or send them to us.

Speaker C

I think was going to show you one.

Speaker A

Can you see that?

Speaker C

I feel like one of those sales channels on the, on Sky TV that goes right, I've got this lovely car plate during a talk and I 10 and it comes like across the screen.

Speaker C

Yeah, no, it's really good because it.

Speaker A

Covers like it's got hints and tips and all sorts and it helps with the categorizing.

Speaker A

So what Lee's done is when you, when he's created this, it's really good way to get people used to the categorizing ready for getting on software as.

Speaker C

Well because it will ask you to.

Speaker A

Put like your expenses into categories and there is a categorizing sheet here.

Speaker A

So it's telling you like what would form the consumables like poo bag, shampoo, etc.

Speaker A

And then it asks you like what you want to achieve this year with like your figures and then you fill it in as the months go on and then it'll ask you whether you've achieved it all.

Speaker A

It's got mileage logs, everything in there they are.

Speaker A

Let me quickly.

Speaker A

I do feel like a bit like.

Speaker C

On the sales funnel and I have this lovely tick for 3.99.

Speaker A

Honestly, they are.

Speaker A

Yes.

Speaker A

If you use Summer 25 and you get 25% off, so they're now only £21 and you have to go bargain, bargain.

Speaker C

£21 everyone for today, only 21 quid.

Speaker C

Reason code Summer 25.

Speaker C

I do not be like one of those stupid sales you see on tap.

Speaker C

Sell absolute random crap or little boo boo keyring for anyone.

Speaker C

No.

Speaker A

2 pound.

Speaker A

2 pound they're to buy.

Speaker A

They're normally 28 quid.

Speaker A

They're posted to your door to get a physical pack.

Speaker A

They're really nicely printed.

Speaker A

If you have a printer you can buy the packs to print out yourself.

Speaker A

But then they're 25 quid so for extra and to be fair with the offer on, you can get them sent to your door.

Speaker C

Yeah, it's cheaper than a bit loud.

Speaker C

So yes, I've put the link to our store on the bottom there.

Speaker C

Petaccountant.co.uk store everything on there is an allowable expense as well.

Speaker C

So if you do buy anything, make sure that you put it in your records because everything we produce is an allowable expense.

Speaker C

There's a few other bits and bobs on there, so go and check it out.

Speaker C

Like I said, these are all aimed and they've been produced to help you guys do your tax returns as efficiently as you can.

Speaker C

And for those that to afford an accountant, again, the Packard isn't because they help you do everything so you don't miss anything.

Speaker C

You might not think about certain expenses and they're listed on there.

Speaker C

We do struggle then please just grab one of them.

Speaker C

I said I think there's only 10 left.

Speaker C

We're not going to make any more.

Speaker C

Just obviously with making taxes or coming in, there's not really.

Speaker A

I'll do a post about it as well.

Speaker A

I was going to say you need to just mention I know there's a few left but you've got to talk about the tax calculator just quickly because.

Speaker C

I think that is a very good one.

Speaker C

So we also have a tax and pricing calculator and basically you put in your info on that calculator and it tells you how much tax you need to save.

Speaker C

So you just put in your information, your sales, your expenses, any PAYE income you might have and it will tell you how much to put in your savings for tax.

Speaker C

So if you are one of those people that doesn't know what to save for tax or is worried or is conscious that you know, you don't know what your tax bill is going to Be then grab that tax calculator because that will help you manage that as you tax the end.

Speaker C

At least it won't be as much as a shock tax calculator guide to.

Speaker A

And you can use estimate.

Speaker A

What I like about it is because if somebody's doing all the record keeping on software or in another format like with the tax calculator, you can use estimated figures.

Speaker A

So if you give it like roughly.

Speaker A

So if you want to sit and write every single dog you've grown or every single dog evolved, you can use estimated figures as well.

Speaker A

So like rounding it up.

Speaker C

Oh, you've gone, your sound's gone.

Speaker A

Oh my.

Speaker A

My phone char.

Speaker A

Like my cable that was plugged into my phone hit my keyboard and put me on mute.

Speaker A

I was gonna say it's got the price inside to it as well.

Speaker A

So when you've put in all of your figures and it helps you with the tax, it will also make sure that you're pricing yourself correctly.

Speaker A

So it'll tell you how much you should be charging per dog or per hour to generate a desired income that you've used.

Speaker A

Basically tell it what you want desired income to be annually and monthly and then with everything else you've input, it will let you know what you should be charging.

Speaker A

So it's really good.

Speaker C

It is good, yeah.

Speaker C

So that is the different softwares, Dext Free Agent zero for make and tax Digital next year comes into play.

Speaker C

50 grand or more turnover, including any rental properties.

Speaker C

And there's various products on our website that will help you do everything, keep you compliant and keep you on the right track.

Speaker C

So please, please, please go and check those out.

Speaker C

The reason we do those to help you and obviously we know that not everyone can afford an accountant and these bits and bobs will guide you and point you in the right direction that you need to be in.

Speaker C

And just before we go, just a quick update on the Pepro Expo that we have launched.

Speaker C

And the first event will be on the 15th of November this year in sunny Birmingham in the east side rooms.

Speaker C

We only have a very small amount of tickets left, so the doors will be closing on the 31st of August, so the 31st of this month.

Speaker C

After that point you'll only be able to get an online ticket because we are live streaming the event so you can watch it from home.

Speaker C

But after the 31st of August you won't be able to get an in person ticket and there is only a small amount left.

Speaker C

Speaker C

Speaker C

And you can get a link to the tickets there.

Speaker C

So if you are struggling with your pricing, maybe you're feeling burnt out, maybe you've just lost the love of your business or you want to refresh your skills, any of the above, then please, please, please come along.

Speaker C

It's a business expense.

Speaker C

It's only £179.

Speaker C

There's breakfast, lunch included, the goodie bag.

Speaker C

We've got 13 speakers, so we've got Helen Mottram, we've got Robin Waite, we've got Bill Betts, we've got Karen Fisher, we've got Fanny Smith, we've got ourselves are going to be there and all of the topics are going to be covered.

Speaker C

So pricing, mindset, culture, goal setting, social media, balance, social media, AI.

Speaker C

Know any numbers?

Speaker C

Yeah, knowing your numbers.

Speaker A

I was saying to you about how important is how much it interlinks because like, without knowing your numbers, how are you going to price yourself properly?

Speaker A

If you don't pride yourself properly, you end up working hard and not smart and you get burnt out and everything there can just really like link in nicely together.

Speaker A

So it is something you can go to as a business owner and just take so much away but for so many different areas of your business.

Speaker C

So, yeah, and don't worry if you're coming on your own because there's lots of people there that are coming on their own.

Speaker C

We're going to have a dedicated WhatsApp group on the day, so that if you are feeling a bit nervous about coming in, then a few of us will be there on hand to come and grab you and make sure that you settled in tug enough.

Speaker C

One of the sponsors are going to be there with a stand with some of their fab products that you can get.

Speaker C

So like I say, it's going to be live streamed as well, it's going to be recorded, so you'll be able to watch it all back in the various different segments.

Speaker C

And we have the lovely online speakers leading up to the event as well, who are also going to do seminars on various different topics.

Speaker C

So pay monthly and you can forgot to mention that as well.

Speaker C

So with the link, it'll allow you to spread the payments over three months.

Speaker C

If you're a client of ours, if you can spread it over longer, if needs be, just give us a shout.

Speaker C

But like I said, the doors are closing on the 31st of August and then the online tickets will be released at that point, so you won't be able to get an in person ticket after that.

Speaker C

But with all the information is on the Pet Pro Expo Facebook page and Instagram as well.

Speaker C

If you want to have a chat to us about it to make sure it's suitable for you and give us a call or drop us an email, that's absolutely fine.

Speaker C

The event is run by us.

Speaker C

If you're thinking, where's my ticket?

Speaker C

It won't come to you until after the doors close on the 31st of August and then everyone will get put into a private Facebook group where we'll release more information and things moving forward from that point.

Speaker C

But hopefully we will see you guys on the 15th of November in sunny, sunny Birmingham.

Speaker C

It will be a very, very good day.

Speaker C

You can mingle, we can have a drink.

Speaker C

There's lots of people going down there on the Friday night.

Speaker C

So if you want to come and have a cocktail with us on Friday.

Speaker A

Cup of tea, I'll probably start.

Speaker C

Georgia McGundy or a coffee or a water, whatever your preference, then please do it.

Speaker C

And like I said, it's all an allowable business expense.

Speaker C

The hotel, the travel, the food, everything and the ticket.

Speaker C

So if you want to earn more money, build that profit line, then please, please, please come.

Speaker C

These have been hand selected by me.

Speaker C

They're not just a bunch of randoms that I found, they are industry specialists.

Speaker C

They know your industry well, a lot of learning.

Speaker C

So it's going to be a good day, good day.

Speaker A

And I'll be there and Emily will.

Speaker C

Be there, Emily will be there, team will be there, Lee will be there.

Speaker C

So half the team will be there and like I said, the idea is that we do it every year and it is going to be sort of a go to place to, to change things up with your business and implement things and just get yourself motivated a bit more to get things done and increase the profit ultimately.

Speaker C

But I think that's it from us.

Speaker C

It's we're 40 minutes in and yeah.

Speaker A

Sometimes this is good for you because sometimes.

Speaker A

And I've like, I've gone on a couple of calls.

Speaker A

An hour later you and Lee are still chatting.

Speaker A

I'm sure you've had a couple where they've gone over an hour.

Speaker C

We get carried away sometimes.

Speaker C

Like I say, these always go on a podcast on a Monday by the lovely Darren from Motion Profit, big shout out to him.

Speaker C

So they will get put on there every Monday.

Speaker C

So, so make sure that you go on Spotify or any other platform and subscribe to make sure that you don't miss any.

Speaker C

We will have another guest at the end of the month and like I said, we'll start putting some polls out in the group as well to ask you what topics you want us to chat about.

Speaker C

Even if it's not tax related.

Speaker C

We could have a non tax one.

Speaker C

We don't mind any topics we're open to, just let us know.

Speaker C

We'll be guided by you or for any guests you want on and then see if we can work on magic and get some guests on for you guys.

Speaker C

But yeah, as always, have fun, have a good week, stay safe and be nice to each other and we will see you in November.

Speaker A

And you've not said, you've not said your little tagline that I like now you used to say, you always used to sign off with stay.

Speaker A

Yeah, have lots of fun, keep your.

Speaker C

Receipts and make lots of money.

Speaker C

Yeah, and if anyone wants to send a mug that says hashtag I hate QuickBooks to me, that would be perfect.

Speaker A

Oh my day black.

Speaker C

Oh no, I haven't got it.

Speaker C

I was gonna say I did have one that said hashtag don't need an accountant but I don't have that on my desk.

Speaker C

Oh, I, I've just got this.

Speaker A

I think I've just washed it.

Speaker C

I think that's why my old pet accountant local.

Speaker A

Well, I normally take the boss and then give Vicky apprentice one deliberately.

Speaker C

Yeah.

Speaker C

So yeah, we'll, we'll have lots of merch out and stuff for the expo, but no, it's going to be good.

Speaker C

I genuinely hope that we see you guys there because you know, it's, it's going to be a good day and you're going to learn a lot, come away with a lot and there's nothing else like it.

Speaker C

Yeah.

Speaker C

And meet people in the same boat as you and just have a bit of fun and relax before Crimbo.

Speaker C

But yeah, just follow the links and we will catch you hopefully with Lee next week.

Speaker C

And yeah, we'll catch up with you then and see you guys up.
