Why is looking at your progressed chart a good thing?

If I flew you to the middle of the desert, dropped you off with a jug of water and said good luck while you're trying to find your way, you will be pretty pissed off at me, right?

What if I did the same thing, dropped you off in the desert with a jug of water but this time I said if you walk 50 miles in that direction you will make it to town one you won't be as mad with me because I did point you in the right direction.

But what will also happen is it will make the journey more acceptable.

Oh all I got is 50 miles to do.

I can now mentally prepare myself for this upcoming journey.
