David Warren, would you come up?
Speaker:We have a new elder to announce this morning.
Speaker:David and Dee, if you'll come.
Speaker:Here at Springhouse, we do not elect eldership.
Speaker:We don't vote and do a democratic process for elders.
Speaker:We simply recognize elders.
Speaker:And this has been a long time coming,
Speaker:because David, you have functioned in this role
Speaker:far, far longer than, you know,
Speaker:between now and the rest of time that you have here.
Speaker:And I'm so grateful for you.
Speaker:Let me read some scripture.
Speaker:And as I'm reading some scripture,
Speaker:I'm gonna ask the eldership to make their way
Speaker:down to the front.
Speaker:Out of 1 Timothy 3, this is what the word says.
Speaker:"An overseer must be blameless and beyond reproach.
Speaker:"The husband of one wife, self-controlled, sensible,
Speaker:"respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
Speaker:"not addicted to wine, not a bully,
Speaker:"nor quick-tempered and hot-headed,
Speaker:"but gentle and considerate, free from the love of money.
Speaker:"He must manage his own household well,
Speaker:"keeping his children under control with all dignity.
Speaker:"And he must not be a new convert,
Speaker:"so that he will not fall into condemnation
Speaker:"encurred by the evil one.
Speaker:"He must have a good reputation
Speaker:"and be well thought of by those outside the church,
Speaker:"so that he will not be discredited
Speaker:"and fall into the devil's trap."
Speaker:David, if this was a checklist of
Speaker:what needs to be for an elder,
Speaker:boy, you're batting a thousand, my friend.
Speaker:We recognize your appointment as an elder of this house,
Speaker:as an overseer.
Speaker:We are governed by three agencies.
Speaker:We have an admin board that does our finances.
Speaker:We have the pastoral staff that run the church.
Speaker:But the eldership, they're the ruling body,
Speaker:the spiritual covering.
Speaker:So this is a very important thing
Speaker:that we add David to this group.
Speaker:And I believe that it is the Lord's will for him
Speaker:to be added to this group.
Speaker:So we're gonna pray over David.
Speaker:The eldership is here gathered around you.
Speaker:We all affirm your call,
Speaker:and we're grateful for your willingness
Speaker:to serve in this capacity.
Speaker:Would you guys stand and stretch your hand
Speaker:over David and Dee this morning?
Speaker:Father, we thank you for who you are.
Speaker:And God, I thank you for the gift of David and Dee Warren.
Speaker:And Lord, I thank you, Lord,
Speaker:for this appointment of eldership,
Speaker:actually, this recognition of eldership in David's life, God.
Speaker:Lord, this is a mantle that is a weighty mantle, Lord,
Speaker:but you carry it for us, God.
Speaker:I pray that you would speak clearly to David.
Speaker:I pray that you would give him discernment and insight
Speaker:as he serves as a watchman on the walls for this house
Speaker:and protection of the people that come
Speaker:through these doors, Father.
Speaker:I ask, Lord, that you would anoint him
Speaker:and that you would use him.
Speaker:I thank you for the way that his fingerprints
Speaker:have already been used and are on the hearts of the people
Speaker:all in this congregation.
Speaker:And I ask, Lord, that you would continue
Speaker:to use them in that way.
Speaker:Father, I pray for he and Dee.
Speaker:I pray a hedge of protection around their household.
Speaker:I pray that you would strengthen them, Lord,
Speaker:and use them in this day of battle, Lord,
Speaker:as you provide every weaponry they need, Father God,
Speaker:especially the weapon of love and grace.
Speaker:And Lord, I pray, Lord, that you would render peace to them
Speaker:as they continue to do your work and further your kingdom.
Speaker:We love you today and we thank you for the gift
Speaker:of David and Dee Warren, in Jesus' name.
Speaker:And everybody said amen, amen, amen.
Speaker:Be sure to hug Dee and David's neck today as you go.
Speaker:And we just so appreciate you guys and love you, amen.
Speaker:Well, God is good.
Speaker:All the time.
Speaker:And I just love to hear the stories of God's faithfulness
Speaker:in the lives of his people.
Speaker:I love whenever we're sharing testimonies.
Speaker:You know, I've gotten a lot of feedback
Speaker:by the testimony time we had last week in service,
Speaker:especially the part where it was mentioned, that's church.
Speaker:If that's church, that means we could have church
Speaker:on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
Speaker:'cause our testimonies are not reserved
Speaker:for Sunday morning, right?
Speaker:We can share them Sunday morning,
Speaker:but boy, he's always moving.
Speaker:He's always up to something and it's always good.
Speaker:It's always really good.
Speaker:Well, I'm excited about today.
Speaker:Before we get up and rolling,
Speaker:I do need to make an announcement.
Speaker:We are going to be changing our service times
Speaker:here at Springhouse beginning on Easter Sunday, okay?
Speaker:This service will begin at 5 a.m.
Speaker:(congregation laughing)
Speaker:(laughing)
Speaker:Okay, 5.15, no.
Speaker:This gathering is going to begin at 11 a.m.
Speaker:Just like last week, we are making a change
Speaker:because if you've recognized, if you look around,
Speaker:we are in the blessing of growth here at Springhouse
Speaker:and it is a wonderful thing where the Lord
Speaker:is bringing people to be with us.
Speaker:In that vein, our early gathering
Speaker:is supposed to be a repeat gathering,
Speaker:but it's hard to be genuine in announcing
Speaker:that it's a repeat gathering when we're not repeating
Speaker:the gathering, yes, okay?
Speaker:In order to do that, we have to have the same amount of time
Speaker:in both gatherings and so the family focus moments,
Speaker:the baptisms, the baby dedications, things like that
Speaker:that are usually moved away from that gathering
Speaker:and just in this gathering, we'll make an appearance there.
Speaker:But starting Easter, we will have our services
Speaker:at nine and 11, nine and 11.
Speaker:And so we invite you to be a part of that.
Speaker:Now, as I mentioned last week, if you're looking
Speaker:for an opportunity to serve us in an eclectic way,
Speaker:as you can see, I believe that when visitors come
Speaker:to Springhouse, most likely they're gonna come
Speaker:to this gathering and if you have the capacity,
Speaker:if you're only coming to one gathering
Speaker:or you have a desire to serve in children's ministry
Speaker:during this main gathering where there's a lot of kids,
Speaker:Sherry needs help back there, if you would make that switch
Speaker:to the nine a.m. gathering, that would free up space
Speaker:not only in this room but in our parking lot
Speaker:for visitors to come and be a part
Speaker:of what we've got going on here.
Speaker:That's just a unique way that you could serve
Speaker:but God is doing good things here, amen?
Speaker:And you're a part of that and we are just so grateful
Speaker:for you, we're continuing our series, we took a beat
Speaker:because of the conference but we're continuing our series,
Speaker:The Greatest Stories Ever Told and you are a part
Speaker:of The Greatest Story Ever Told and the great thing
Speaker:about the story is that it's not about you.
Speaker:The best part of the story is that it's about Jesus
Speaker:and the change, the radical change that he's made
Speaker:in your life, if Jesus Christ has changed your life,
Speaker:would you just say amen?
Speaker:So we have a story, we have a story connected
Speaker:to the King of Kings, the author and the finisher
Speaker:of our faith, the star breather, we are connected to him
Speaker:and it's so wonderful to be able to share those stories.
Speaker:We're gonna be going to the story of Moses and the Red Sea,
Speaker:probably one of the most famous stories in scripture,
Speaker:many of you know the story about what happens
Speaker:at the Red Sea but what I wanted to do as a little bit
Speaker:of a setup before we dive in this morning is just
Speaker:to remind us that the stories in the Old Testament point us
Speaker:to Jesus Christ, what I love about the Old Testament stories
Speaker:is you will see a common theme, you will see a common thread
Speaker:of God's character all throughout scripture, why is that?
Speaker:Because the scripture tells us that Jesus Christ, God,
Speaker:he is the same wind, yesterday and forever.
Speaker:God never changes, would you look at your neighbor
Speaker:and say God never changes?
Speaker:Now we change, we change because we're fickle
Speaker:and we need to change because we need
Speaker:to look more like Christ.
Speaker:I'm not there yet, anybody arrived?
Speaker:I'm not there yet, okay, we need to change.
Speaker:God never changes and I need a God I can depend on
Speaker:to be the same, God is faithful, he is true
Speaker:and he is sovereign, we're gonna stand today
Speaker:and we're gonna read two very brief scriptures.
Speaker:I am gonna read the story of Moses to you in the Red Sea
Speaker:but we're gonna read these two scriptures together
Speaker:beforehand, would you stand with me
Speaker:and let's read with gusto this morning.
Speaker:(congregation murmuring)
Speaker:The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.
Speaker:Oh, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Speaker:Father, I thank you for every single truth
Speaker:you've given us in your word, I ask Lord
Speaker:that it would implant on our hearts today
Speaker:and change us for all eternity, in Jesus' name
Speaker:and everybody said, amen.
Speaker:Well, I told the early gathering
Speaker:that we're gonna do something different today
Speaker:but I realized that that's a common thing that I say
Speaker:and so we're just gonna be in keeping with the same,
Speaker:it's just gonna look a little different
Speaker:than we know, it's unique, okay.
Speaker:And so I'm gonna tell this, we're gonna read actually
Speaker:this story of Moses at the Red Sea.
Speaker:It's essentially what we're gonna do this morning,
Speaker:we're gonna read just right through the story
Speaker:but you're gonna help me tell the story.
Speaker:And the reason I wanted to do this this morning
Speaker:is because I want us to understand that our lives
Speaker:and our circumstances, our situations can parallel
Speaker:the stories that we find in scripture.
Speaker:God's character and how he moves within the scriptures
Speaker:in the Old Testament, those principles we can apply
Speaker:to our life today.
Speaker:And so I have a question to present to you this morning.
Speaker:Are you stuck in the in-between?
Speaker:Are you stuck in the in-between?
Speaker:Have you been released, relinquished, redeemed?
Speaker:Have you been allowed to walk out of?
Speaker:Has the Lord allowed you to relent from
Speaker:what you've held onto?
Speaker:And you come to a place where there is an obstacle
Speaker:or a wall or something unexpected in front of you
Speaker:and you're stuck in that place of the in-between.
Speaker:I wonder if anybody would be here.
Speaker:Now many times when we talk about that,
Speaker:I think our minds tend to lend itself
Speaker:to going directly to sin issues.
Speaker:And that's appropriate because we need to address
Speaker:sin issues in our lives.
Speaker:But I wonder if there might be somebody here
Speaker:who's in a place where God has released you
Speaker:or called you out of something and called you to something
Speaker:but you're running up against obstacles
Speaker:and you don't know how to pass through.
Speaker:And this morning, I believe God wants to minister
Speaker:both to the person who's struggling with a sin issue
Speaker:but also the person who is looking for God's direction
Speaker:on God, I don't know how to get out of what I'm in right now
Speaker:in order to move forward and fulfill your will.
Speaker:Amen?
Speaker:So I need this morning the six best sinners in the house.
Speaker:If you could come up here to the stage.
Speaker:I've got one, two, three, four, come on up here.
Speaker:The six best sinners, come on up here.
Speaker:Oh yeah, come on up here.
Speaker:We don't wanna elevate sin for sure
Speaker:but we definitely want you to get your sin in the light.
Speaker:There's gotta be another good sinner.
Speaker:Okay, here we go.
Speaker:All right, come on.
Speaker:All right, get in line over here.
Speaker:Let's let Justin be first, he likes that.
Speaker:Go on over.
Speaker:Okay, step back just a little bit, okay?
Speaker:That's okay.
Speaker:Oh yeah, you're a bunch of ragtag sinners for sure.
Speaker:Okay, if you guys could do me a favor,
Speaker:this is gonna be hard.
Speaker:If you could flank to where you're kind of diagonal.
Speaker:That's a little bit too far landed.
Speaker:There you go, I like that, okay.
Speaker:These guys are gonna represent this morning Egypt.
Speaker:They're gonna represent Pharaoh and the army in Egypt.
Speaker:Now, as we have it in the story
Speaker:where we are in Exodus chapter 14,
Speaker:Israel has been liberated, has been set free
Speaker:from the grips of Egypt.
Speaker:Remember there was all of the plagues, right?
Speaker:All the plagues happened.
Speaker:And that final plague with the Passover,
Speaker:Pharaoh finally relents and says, "You can go."
Speaker:Not only does Israel go,
Speaker:but they go with stuff in their hands.
Speaker:They plunder Egypt.
Speaker:They're able to take things with them.
Speaker:Later we're gonna find
Speaker:that they don't just leave, but they leave boldly.
Speaker:They leave boldly and their God is with them.
Speaker:But as we're talking about paralleling our lives
Speaker:to the scripture, we're gonna look at Egypt
Speaker:because we're not contending with Pharaoh.
Speaker:We're not necessarily contending with an army,
Speaker:but we're contending with some other things.
Speaker:And now I want us to understand
Speaker:that we're in a place in the scripture, in the story
Speaker:where Israel has been liberated.
Speaker:So we're gonna be looking at these things
Speaker:from a past perspective.
Speaker:Yes, a past perspective, okay?
Speaker:So we're gonna look at past struggles,
Speaker:past mistakes,
Speaker:past positions,
Speaker:past behaviors,
Speaker:past security,
Speaker:past relationships.
Speaker:Come on up here.
Speaker:And this good looking guy,
Speaker:he's gonna represent all of you, okay?
Speaker:He's gonna represent all of you.
Speaker:If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ
Speaker:and he has liberated you from your past,
Speaker:your past is your past.
Speaker:Say that, your past is your past.
Speaker:And so he has liberated us from our past.
Speaker:So let's look at what the scripture says with this story
Speaker:in the context of Egypt being in our past, okay?
Speaker:Here we go.
Speaker:When the, I'm gonna read.
Speaker:When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled,
Speaker:Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about them
Speaker:and said, "What have we done?
Speaker:"We have let the Israelites go
Speaker:"and have lost their services."
Speaker:I want us to take particular note of the yellow,
Speaker:changed their minds and we have lost their services.
Speaker:I want us to understand this morning
Speaker:that the world offers instability and will leave you empty,
Speaker:but God is always stable and promises you life.
Speaker:So our past always is willing to offer us
Speaker:a level of instability.
Speaker:Pharaoh and the army changed their minds.
Speaker:There was a moment, the firstborn was taken
Speaker:from all of Egypt and Pharaoh said, "Anthetically,
Speaker:"you can go."
Speaker:The decision was made.
Speaker:But once he took, have you ever had somebody in your life?
Speaker:I didn't expect to go here.
Speaker:You ever have somebody in your life
Speaker:that God has liberated you from,
Speaker:but the minute they start seeing you be victorious,
Speaker:they start to change their mind about letting you go,
Speaker:they start chasing you with some stuff that was old
Speaker:instead of the new that you're in, anybody?
Speaker:Or that's just me.
Speaker:God liberates us from our past.
Speaker:He doesn't want us standing on unstable ground.
Speaker:A double-minded man is what?
Speaker:Unstable in all of his ways, right?
Speaker:And so your past has instability to offer you an emptiness
Speaker:while God is stable and promises you life.
Speaker:So Pharaoh has changed his mind
Speaker:and he has said, "We've lost their services."
Speaker:Do you notice that the world wants to suck the life
Speaker:out of you?
Speaker:Pharaoh's like, Pharaoh wasn't like,
Speaker:"Oh, we care about them, we wanna take care of,
Speaker:"we wanna make sure that," no.
Speaker:We've lost our services.
Speaker:We've lost what we gained from having them with us.
Speaker:And so he says this.
Speaker:So it says this, "So he had his chariot made ready
Speaker:"and took his army with him.
Speaker:"He took 600 of the," say this, "best chariots
Speaker:"along with all the other chariots of Egypt
Speaker:"with officers over all of them.
Speaker:"He doesn't just take chariots,
Speaker:"but he takes the best chariots."
Speaker:Why?
Speaker:"Your past will throw its best at you,
Speaker:"but what God has is always better for you."
Speaker:Your past is always gonna come and say,
Speaker:"Okay, I gotta conjure up the best of what you have."
Speaker:It's like that carrot that's dangling.
Speaker:It's like that momentary fix from that vice
Speaker:feels good for just a few moments.
Speaker:And sometimes we get tunnel vision
Speaker:and all we can see is that little fix
Speaker:and we don't see the destruction that surrounds it.
Speaker:So he's coming after Israel with his best chariots.
Speaker:And the word says this,
Speaker:"The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt,
Speaker:"so that he pursued the Israelites
Speaker:"who were marching out," what?
Speaker:"Boldly," let me tell you what this tells me, Israel.
Speaker:Israel was shackled, was shackled to the past.
Speaker:Come on over here.
Speaker:Hold that, there you go, come on over here.
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:- Now I'm just gonna have you strapped
Speaker:to your past struggles right here, okay?
Speaker:I gotta lock it up in case you try to get out, all right.
Speaker:Okay.
Speaker:Israel was chained to slavery for over 400 years.
Speaker:Israel was property of Egypt,
Speaker:had to do anything that Pharaoh told them to do.
Speaker:They were enslaved.
Speaker:And there have been many years of your life
Speaker:that you were enslaved to your past struggles,
Speaker:past mistakes, past positions, behavior,
Speaker:security and relationships.
Speaker:Jesus Christ came along and said, "I want you.
Speaker:"And so I'm gonna pay a price,
Speaker:"a penalty of death on a cross,
Speaker:"and I'm not just gonna stay there,
Speaker:"I'm coming back to life.
Speaker:"And I'm going to render the key that you need
Speaker:"to be liberated from all of these things."
Speaker:And so Jesus comes and he unlocks the chain
Speaker:so that you can be liberated and the,
Speaker:just drop the chain.
Speaker:And what the scripture says is,
Speaker:"He who the Son sets free is what?"
Speaker:Say it again.
Speaker:- Free.
Speaker:- Look at your neighbor and say, "Are you free?"
Speaker:- Free.
Speaker:- Israel has been freed from slavery.
Speaker:So come right over here.
Speaker:And they marched out boldly.
Speaker:That tells me that Israel knew
Speaker:that God was fighting on their behalf.
Speaker:How do I know that?
Speaker:You don't leave boldly something,
Speaker:you don't boldly leave this stuff
Speaker:if you're not confident of where you're going
Speaker:and who's with you.
Speaker:And so they boldly, it's like you getting an experience,
Speaker:having an experience with the holy God here
Speaker:in this altar space and being liberated and set free.
Speaker:You know that you know that you know.
Speaker:There's a story in the New Testament
Speaker:when the guy, Jesus, healed the blind guy.
Speaker:And the people were like, "How'd this happen?
Speaker:"Who did it?
Speaker:"When did it happen?
Speaker:"What Kool-Aid was he drinking?"
Speaker:All of these questions.
Speaker:And the guy said, "Listen, I don't know any of those answers
Speaker:"but this is what I do know.
Speaker:"I once was blind, but now I see.
Speaker:"But now I see."
Speaker:Here we go.
Speaker:As Pharaoh approached the Israelites,
Speaker:saw the, I'm sorry, as Pharaoh approached,
Speaker:I feel super calm there.
Speaker:The Israelites saw the Egyptians marching after them.
Speaker:So Pharaoh's approaching the Israelites
Speaker:and the Israelites, we're going this way.
Speaker:Oh, wait a minute.
Speaker:There's a red sea, there's an obstacle here.
Speaker:And guess what?
Speaker:I hear something.
Speaker:I turn around and I see something.
Speaker:Go ahead and turn around.
Speaker:Okay?
Speaker:Are you with me?
Speaker:(congregation laughing)
Speaker:I've got an obstacle in front of me.
Speaker:I don't know what to do.
Speaker:So I turn around and it says,
Speaker:"They were terrified and cried out to the Lord."
Speaker:Guys, your past should terrify you.
Speaker:The world you lived in, it should terrify you
Speaker:if you go back there and try to shock yourself to it.
Speaker:"They were terrified and cried out to the Lord.
Speaker:"They said to Moses, 'Was it because there was no graves
Speaker:"'in Egypt that you brought us into the desert to die?'
Speaker:"'What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt?
Speaker:"'Didn't we say to you in Egypt, 'Leave us alone,
Speaker:"'let us serve the Egyptians?'
Speaker:"It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians
Speaker:"than to die in the desert."
Speaker:Why were they afraid?
Speaker:Think about it.
Speaker:When she turned and faced this way.
Speaker:The word tells us back in Exodus 13
Speaker:that God Almighty, an angel of the Lord,
Speaker:a pillar of cloud by night, fire by day,
Speaker:led Israel out of Egypt.
Speaker:Now, I don't see a cloud.
Speaker:I don't see fire.
Speaker:They did.
Speaker:They did.
Speaker:They saw the physical presence
Speaker:of a supernatural move of God.
Speaker:Yet, they were, it says they were terrified.
Speaker:Why were they afraid?
Speaker:The easy answer is, well, they were afraid of Egypt,
Speaker:and they're afraid of Pharaoh and the army.
Speaker:I don't buy it.
Speaker:I don't believe that they were afraid
Speaker:of Pharaoh and the army.
Speaker:I believe they were afraid because they didn't have
Speaker:the faith to believe for their way out.
Speaker:How do I know that?
Speaker:Because of what they said in the scripture.
Speaker:If they were truly afraid of Pharaoh and the army,
Speaker:they wouldn't be saying, "Take us back.
Speaker:"Put us back.
Speaker:"It's better for us to serve Egypt and Pharaoh and his army
Speaker:"than to continue to be here and die in the desert.
Speaker:"You don't go back to something you're afraid of."
Speaker:And so the fear was birthed from,
Speaker:"I don't have the faith to believe, God,
Speaker:"that you can get me out of this situation."
Speaker:And I wonder how many of us are in that place of fear
Speaker:because we came up on an obstacle.
Speaker:God made us feel good, it looked good, we had a blessing,
Speaker:we had an open door, we had a confirmation, we had a dream,
Speaker:we stepped into this and bam,
Speaker:something happens that's unexpected.
Speaker:And we take that towel and we throw it in.
Speaker:Take me back to slavery.
Speaker:Take me back to my past struggles.
Speaker:Take me back to those past relationships.
Speaker:Why were they afraid?
Speaker:They were afraid because they didn't know
Speaker:how to get out of this.
Speaker:They were afraid because they didn't have the faith
Speaker:to believe, listen, one of our largest issues
Speaker:is that when we come upon obstacles in our life,
Speaker:we look back instead of looking up.
Speaker:We look back instead of looking up.
Speaker:He always has a way out.
Speaker:He always has an answer.
Speaker:Are we looking to him?
Speaker:Are we looking to him?
Speaker:Here's the thing.
Speaker:Moses answered the people and he says this,
Speaker:"Do not be afraid.
Speaker:"Stand firm and you will see the deliverance
Speaker:"the Lord will bring to you today.
Speaker:"The Lord will fight you, fight for you.
Speaker:"You need only to be still."
Speaker:You know what this is right here?
Speaker:This is David Warren.
Speaker:This is David Warren's job
Speaker:when he sees you walking in fear.
Speaker:David Warren or the eldership
Speaker:or your spiritual leadership says, hey, don't be afraid.
Speaker:Let me remind you of the God who's for you
Speaker:and not against you.
Speaker:Do not be afraid.
Speaker:Stand firm and you'll see the deliverance.
Speaker:The Lord will fight for you.
Speaker:You only need to be still.
Speaker:And guys, in our culture, we don't know one bit
Speaker:about what it is to be still.
Speaker:We are so conditioned to act.
Speaker:I'm trying to fix every situation
Speaker:within 30 seconds of it coming into my lap.
Speaker:And God says, I don't want you to fix the situation.
Speaker:I wanna fix the situation for you.
Speaker:I might fix the situation through you,
Speaker:but I want you to be still.
Speaker:Be still and know that I'm God.
Speaker:Here's the thing.
Speaker:The world in your past will provoke you to act.
Speaker:God invites you to be still.
Speaker:He invites you to be still.
Speaker:So what's our motivation?
Speaker:Justin, what's our motivation to lay down our past struggles,
Speaker:our past mistakes, Boston, Landon, our past behaviors,
Speaker:Robert, our past relationships?
Speaker:Like, okay, I mean, I understand.
Speaker:I'm not supposed to say,
Speaker:I understand I get liberated from this, but here I am.
Speaker:Surely God doesn't just want me out here
Speaker:flailing my arms by myself.
Speaker:Flail, no, you're not gonna do it, okay.
Speaker:Just out here on my own wandering out here.
Speaker:No, there has to be something more and there is.
Speaker:I need nine more volunteers to come up to the stage quickly.
Speaker:This way, this side.
Speaker:One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine.
Speaker:If you'll make a pair of diagonal line here
Speaker:just like they did just on this side, okay.
Speaker:Now, when I was making these signs this week,
Speaker:what I wanted to paint a picture was
Speaker:what we're going toward is future security,
Speaker:future relationships, future resources,
Speaker:future all those things.
Speaker:And you know what God said?
Speaker:That's not true.
Speaker:God doesn't always provide future security for you.
Speaker:He doesn't always provide future resource for you.
Speaker:He's not looking for you to go from one struggle
Speaker:to another struggle and forget about him.
Speaker:So it's not what we're going to, it's who we're going to.
Speaker:And God has a lot of names in the word of God
Speaker:and it tells us about his character.
Speaker:So when we're leaving our past struggle,
Speaker:we're going to El Shaddai, God Almighty.
Speaker:When we leave our past mistakes and relationships,
Speaker:Jehovah Shalom, the peace of God.
Speaker:We're going to Jehovah Jireh, our provider.
Speaker:We're going to Jehovah Ratha, our healer.
Speaker:We're going to Elohim, our creator.
Speaker:We're going to Jehovah Ra, our shepherd and our friend.
Speaker:We're going to the star breathing God.
Speaker:We're going to Jehovah Nissi, who's a banner over us.
Speaker:And we are going to Emmanuel, God with us.
Speaker:And let me tell you something,
Speaker:there's a reason why I put more signs on this side
Speaker:than this side, because there's always more
Speaker:when you're going toward God.
Speaker:There's always better when you're going toward God.
Speaker:There's always much more that you can receive
Speaker:when you're going to God.
Speaker:Let me tell you something,
Speaker:when you've got the peace of the Lord,
Speaker:you've got the resource of the Lord,
Speaker:you've got the banner of the Lord,
Speaker:you've got an almighty God on your side,
Speaker:why in the world would you ever want to turn around
Speaker:and go back to these past things?
Speaker:These past things pale in comparison greatly
Speaker:to everything God has.
Speaker:And so our motivation is that we see,
Speaker:we're not flailing our arms,
Speaker:walking in confidence boldly toward Jehovah God,
Speaker:to a sovereign King, to a God who is stable
Speaker:and He's faithful and He's mighty and He's true.
Speaker:And so He invites us to be still
Speaker:because sometimes our past,
Speaker:you know how they came up here and started talking,
Speaker:I was like, simmer?
Speaker:Our past starts to whisper in our ear,
Speaker:hey buddy, hey, come over here.
Speaker:Hey, hey, don't you miss me?
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:And we get this little itch, you know,
Speaker:this little thing, you know?
Speaker:But we keep our eyes focused on our God.
Speaker:We keep our eyes focused on our God.
Speaker:Then the Lord said to Moses,
Speaker:are you ready for this?
Speaker:Why are you crying out to me?
Speaker:I want you to think about that for a second.
Speaker:Wait a minute, Pastor Kevin, listen,
Speaker:I've been liberated,
Speaker:you just asked me what to do when I'm stuck.
Speaker:I see that God's in front of me,
Speaker:but I'm in this place where I'm stuck,
Speaker:I'm stuck struggling with sin,
Speaker:I'm stuck struggling with that call
Speaker:that I didn't answer completely
Speaker:or I laid down this job in this vocation
Speaker:and God hasn't opened the door over here,
Speaker:I stepped out on faith, I'm in this middle season.
Speaker:And God is saying, why are you crying out to me?
Speaker:Never knew God would ask you that type of question, huh?
Speaker:The reason that God, I believe the reason
Speaker:that God asked the question,
Speaker:why are you crying out to me, was two things.
Speaker:He was with them and He has given them
Speaker:everything they needed to move forward.
Speaker:How did He ask Moses to split the sea?
Speaker:He said, take your,
Speaker:stake your,
Speaker:you can say staff and you say it loud,
Speaker:take your, staff, and your hand
Speaker:and put it over the water.
Speaker:Was the staff, did the staff just appear?
Speaker:Just out of nowhere, just appeared at this moment?
Speaker:Or was the staff there all along since the burning bush?
Speaker:So that tells me God has given Moses every tool he needs.
Speaker:He's given you everything you need
Speaker:to take a step of faith forward.
Speaker:Now, remember, God isn't,
Speaker:He's not just mystical or imaginary,
Speaker:He's literally physically, He's with them.
Speaker:Like the presence is there with Him.
Speaker:We're gonna see that in a second.
Speaker:He's literally with them and He's saying,
Speaker:why are you crying out to me?
Speaker:Tell the Israelites to move on.
Speaker:Raise your staff and stretch your hand out over the sea,
Speaker:divide the water so the Israelites can go through
Speaker:on dry ground.
Speaker:God requires us to step out in faith.
Speaker:Are you with me?
Speaker:Guys, this is central to the point of this morning,
Speaker:to understand that when salvation has come to your life,
Speaker:and He has done the redemptive work,
Speaker:part of your obedient posture to Him
Speaker:is to be willing to step out when He tells you to go,
Speaker:to be able to take the next step
Speaker:whenever He tells you to go there.
Speaker:When there's an obstacle in front of you,
Speaker:you realize this obstacle cannot destroy me.
Speaker:No weapon formed against me will prosper.
Speaker:Nothing will come against me because my God is bigger,
Speaker:my God is greater.
Speaker:Greater is He who is in me than who is in the world.
Speaker:And you step out on faith.
Speaker:You take the next step.
Speaker:Some of us have added years of delay
Speaker:for what God wants to do in our lives
Speaker:because we're going, "God, help me, God, help me,
Speaker:God, help me."
Speaker:And He's saying, "I've given you everything you need.
Speaker:You're just afraid of the wrong thing.
Speaker:You need to be walking in reverent fear of Me,"
Speaker:says the Lord.
Speaker:Stop fearing what they say.
Speaker:Stop fearing what money you're gonna make.
Speaker:Stop putting your fear in the world
Speaker:and all of these past things,
Speaker:your security, your relationships,
Speaker:they're not gonna like me.
Speaker:So what?
Speaker:God says, "I'm more important.
Speaker:I'm alpha and omega.
Speaker:I'm the one God that gets to be on the throne of your life."
Speaker:Step out on faith.
Speaker:Take the next step.
Speaker:What do we see what Scripture says about faith?
Speaker:Can we say these first two words each time?
Speaker:Bye.
Speaker:Moses' parents hid him for three months after he was born
Speaker:because they saw he was no ordinary child
Speaker:and they were not afraid of the king's edict.
Speaker:Bye.
Speaker:Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known
Speaker:as the son of Pharaoh's daughter.
Speaker:Bye.
Speaker:He left Egypt not fearing the king's anger.
Speaker:He persevered because he saw Him who is invisible.
Speaker:Bye.
Speaker:He kept the Passover and the application of the blood
Speaker:so that the destroyer of the firstborn
Speaker:would not touch the firstborn of Israel.
Speaker:Bye.
Speaker:The people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land,
Speaker:but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.
Speaker:By faith.
Speaker:By faith.
Speaker:I want to please my God.
Speaker:Without faith, it is impossible to please God.
Speaker:Would you say that?
Speaker:Without faith, it's impossible to please God.
Speaker:It's not without faith you might not please God.
Speaker:Without faith, it's subject to your interpretation.
Speaker:No, without faith, it is impossible to please God.
Speaker:So the Israelites have a choice.
Speaker:You have a choice.
Speaker:I have a choice in the midst of these struggles
Speaker:and mistakes and all this stuff in the in between
Speaker:looking at Jehovah-Rapha, Jehovah-Ra, the star breather.
Speaker:I have a choice and my choice must be laden by faith.
Speaker:What is faith?
Speaker:Boy, I'm placing a hope that God is going to move.
Speaker:I don't see it right now, but guys,
Speaker:this is why we took two minutes this morning
Speaker:and shared the goodness of God.
Speaker:You need to be reminded about the move of God.
Speaker:I read this story.
Speaker:Can I be real and transparent with you?
Speaker:I sometimes read this story, Justin.
Speaker:I read this story and I go, this is horrible, ready?
Speaker:I go, you idiots.
Speaker:You ever said that?
Speaker:- Losers.
Speaker:- You idiots.
Speaker:Have you ever read scripture and said that, Barbie?
Speaker:She's so pure, she would never call anybody idiot.
Speaker:Listen, I read the scripture, I'm like, idiots.
Speaker:God is like, he's burning a blaze of fire
Speaker:like right before you and you're turning back
Speaker:and then God said, numero uno right here.
Speaker:Because how quickly I forget how he's moved in my life
Speaker:over and over and over again and then I doubt him
Speaker:the minute I have opposition.
Speaker:And I have to have people in my life who love me enough
Speaker:to remind me, stand firm, be still.
Speaker:God is for you, not against you.
Speaker:He's gonna fight this for you.
Speaker:And so here's the thing, you are not alone.
Speaker:Somebody needs to know this truth today.
Speaker:Somebody here believes a lie.
Speaker:And you need to know this morning, God of the universe,
Speaker:the God of the universe says, you are not alone.
Speaker:All of this, all of God's character is available for you
Speaker:if you will just lean into him.
Speaker:You are not alone.
Speaker:Are you ready guys?
Speaker:It gets crazier.
Speaker:The angel of the Lord who had been traveling
Speaker:in front of Israel's army withdrew and went where?
Speaker:- [Congregation] In the middle of the cloud.
Speaker:- Okay, the pillar of cloud also moved from in front
Speaker:and stood behind them coming between the armies of Egypt
Speaker:and Israel, okay.
Speaker:Huh, I wonder what that looks like.
Speaker:I need two more people.
Speaker:Quickly, please.
Speaker:Great, come on up here, love it.
Speaker:Just need you to stand on that chair.
Speaker:Yes, that's right.
Speaker:The next person's gonna juggle.
Speaker:Okay, come up here.
Speaker:You can do this by faith.
Speaker:Yes, by faith.
Speaker:Okay, I need you all to hold this out,
Speaker:stretch it out and hold it.
Speaker:Let's go this way.
Speaker:Just stretch it out, stretch it out.
Speaker:There you go.
Speaker:Okay, come here, stand right here.
Speaker:Okay, so are you seeing this?
Speaker:Okay, God Almighty, cloud by night, fire by day,
Speaker:was in front of Israel's army
Speaker:and he positions himself behind Israel.
Speaker:What can Israel not now see?
Speaker:Can't see the army.
Speaker:God will provide a barrier between you and your past
Speaker:so you don't have to contend with it.
Speaker:See, here's the thing.
Speaker:God has provided this barrier, but we kinda like this.
Speaker:Is it true?
Speaker:It's like we're trying to peep, God is saying no.
Speaker:He is providing, he literally stood behind them
Speaker:so that the Pharaoh and his army could not touch Israel.
Speaker:Do you understand that it was always God's plan,
Speaker:listen, this is crazy.
Speaker:It was always God's plan to destroy Pharaoh and his army.
Speaker:It was always God's plan to destroy this past of yours.
Speaker:It was always this plan.
Speaker:Even whenever you hear the rumbling,
Speaker:you have the thought of the past,
Speaker:you're like, no, that is in the past,
Speaker:that is to be destroyed.
Speaker:I don't have to worry about, I don't have to contend.
Speaker:I don't care how loud the army sounds
Speaker:or how strong it looks, your destiny is destruction.
Speaker:I don't have to worry about you
Speaker:even if you get right up on my pant leg.
Speaker:He has provided a barrier between Israel and Egypt.
Speaker:Throughout the night, the cloud brought darkness
Speaker:to one side and light to the other side,
Speaker:darkness over here and light over here.
Speaker:Why?
Speaker:So that their eyes could be fixed
Speaker:on an almighty sovereign God.
Speaker:Your provider, who are you looking at?
Speaker:Are you stuck in the middle?
Speaker:Who are you looking at, guys?
Speaker:Are you looking at God with you?
Speaker:Are you looking at your peace?
Speaker:Are you looking at your provider?
Speaker:He's there, he's right there.
Speaker:He wants you to look at him.
Speaker:He's wanting you to see him.
Speaker:Stop being distracted by the past.
Speaker:Moses stretched out his hand over the sea
Speaker:and all that night the Lord drove the sea back
Speaker:with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land.
Speaker:The waters were divided and the Israelites
Speaker:went through the sea on dry ground
Speaker:with a wall of water on the right and the left.
Speaker:The Egyptians pursued them.
Speaker:All Pharaoh's horses and chariots and horsemen
Speaker:followed them into the sea.
Speaker:During the last watch of the night, what does it say?
Speaker:The Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud.
Speaker:Imagine that for a moment.
Speaker:Pharaoh and his army are here.
Speaker:They're coming after.
Speaker:And the word tells us that the Lord looked down.
Speaker:Looked, can I tell you that every knee will bow,
Speaker:every tongue will confess.
Speaker:God Almighty looked down.
Speaker:What do you think they saw?
Speaker:What do you think when the Lord God Almighty looks down?
Speaker:Did they see the face of God?
Speaker:Did they see, I mean, because here's the thing,
Speaker:I've never in scripture, it says,
Speaker:it threw them in confusion and then it goes on to say,
Speaker:he jammed the wheels of their chariots
Speaker:so that they had difficulty driving.
Speaker:No weapon formed against me.
Speaker:And the Egyptians said, let's get away from the Israelites.
Speaker:And then what do they say?
Speaker:The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt.
Speaker:I have not heard one time Pharaoh or the Egyptians
Speaker:call God Almighty Lord until right now.
Speaker:Why?
Speaker:Because the Lord God Almighty looked down on them.
Speaker:See, he revealed himself and there was no denying it.
Speaker:Can I tell you something?
Speaker:Your past has to bow down to the face of God.
Speaker:Your struggles have to bow down.
Speaker:That past relationship has to bow down.
Speaker:All of these things have to surrender
Speaker:so that you can walk in freedom toward the star breather,
Speaker:toward the peacemaker, toward all of these,
Speaker:God with you, the banner over your life.
Speaker:So how does this work?
Speaker:How does this work in our practical sense
Speaker:in our lives right now?
Speaker:(gentle music)
Speaker:The water flowed back and covered the chariots
Speaker:and horsemen the entire army of Pharaoh followed.
Speaker:None of them survived.
Speaker:That was their destiny.
Speaker:They weren't supposed to survive.
Speaker:Some of you are giving CPR to your past.
Speaker:You're trying to resuscitate things
Speaker:that are supposed to be dead.
Speaker:And it's distracting you from giving your eyes
Speaker:on what's next, where you're supposed to go.
Speaker:God wants to destroy your past and illuminate your future.
Speaker:This is what the word of God says.
Speaker:Forget the former things.
Speaker:Do not dwell in the past.
Speaker:See, I'm doing what?
Speaker:A new thing.
Speaker:Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is what?
Speaker:A new creation.
Speaker:All things have passed away, all things have become new.
Speaker:We know that our old sinful selves
Speaker:were crucified with Christ
Speaker:so that sin might lose its power in our lives.
Speaker:Listen, look.
Speaker:This happened last time.
Speaker:You can get that last slide up.
Speaker:You can trust in the Lord.
Speaker:You can trust in the Lord.
Speaker:So what does this really look like right now?
Speaker:I need somebody else quickly up here.
Speaker:Please.
Speaker:Quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly.
Speaker:Are you being my person?
Speaker:Okay.
Speaker:This is the cloud by night.
Speaker:This is the light by day.
Speaker:Okay, fire, fire by day.
Speaker:Fire by night, cloud by night, okay?
Speaker:Shine it over there, okay?
Speaker:Okay, here's how we put practical things.
Speaker:'Cause guys, we don't have this cloud.
Speaker:We don't see a cloud, we don't have fire.
Speaker:We don't have this manifestation around us
Speaker:to help motivate us to see the reality of God.
Speaker:Let me tell you what you have.
Speaker:You have something better.
Speaker:You have the Holy Spirit.
Speaker:You have the Holy Spirit.
Speaker:And so what this looks like
Speaker:as God is redeeming your past
Speaker:and He is shielding you from the pain there,
Speaker:what it is is we're gonna follow the Holy Spirit.
Speaker:The light is the Holy Spirit.
Speaker:We're gonna follow the Holy Spirit.
Speaker:And guess what?
Speaker:We're gonna get into this tangible word of God.
Speaker:We're gonna look at the word
Speaker:and we're gonna step with the Spirit.
Speaker:We're gonna look at the word
Speaker:and then we're gonna step with the Spirit.
Speaker:We're gonna look at the word.
Speaker:Let's do that.
Speaker:Here we go, we're gonna look at the word.
Speaker:So go ahead and step.
Speaker:Do not fear, I am with you.
Speaker:Psalm 23, four, even though I walk through the darkest valley
Speaker:I fear no evil.
Speaker:Psalm 27, the Lord is my light and my salvation.
Speaker:Whom shall I fear?
Speaker:Psalm 46, God is our refuge and strength
Speaker:and ever present help in trouble.
Speaker:Do you believe it, church?
Speaker:Psalm 118, the Lord is with me.
Speaker:I will not be afraid.
Speaker:John 14, 27, peace I leave with you,
Speaker:my peace I give you.
Speaker:Deuteronomy 31, six, be strong and courageous.
Speaker:Isaiah 41, 13, for I am with you.
Speaker:I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand
Speaker:and says to you, do not fear, I will help you.
Speaker:Hebrews, go ahead, Hebrews 13, six.
Speaker:So we say with confidence, the Lord is my helper.
Speaker:Deuteronomy 3, 22, do not be afraid of them.
Speaker:The Lord himself will fight for you.
Speaker:And we read the word and we step with the Spirit.
Speaker:We read the word and we step with the Spirit.
Speaker:And guys, if we are taking up that discipline,
Speaker:reading the word and stepping with the Spirit,
Speaker:we don't have the capacity to entertain
Speaker:the fools of our past.
Speaker:We don't have the capacity to entertain
Speaker:the demons of those pasts.
Speaker:All of that is to be destroyed.
Speaker:So I ask you today, where are you in the journey?
Speaker:Are you in the in-between?
Speaker:Have you been trusting God for something
Speaker:and it seems like there's not an answer?
Speaker:Have you been contending with something from the past
Speaker:that you continue to go back to and you're like,
Speaker:God, I just, I don't know why I keep going back
Speaker:to that thing.
Speaker:God wants to liberate you today
Speaker:because he who the Son sets free.
Speaker:This is free indeed.
Speaker:Would you stand with me this morning
Speaker:and those who are gonna minister this morning.
Speaker:God has redemption, restoration, he has freedom.
Speaker:You guys, thank you so much.
Speaker:You can just lay the signs wherever
Speaker:so we can worship the Lord.
Speaker:If you're gonna minister this morning, come forward.
Speaker:Please don't leave here the same way you came.
Speaker:If you're believing God, maybe you're in a situation
Speaker:where you're like, I need to be set free
Speaker:from the bondage of my work environment
Speaker:because I feel like the Lord's wanting
Speaker:to do something else in me.
Speaker:Wanting you to step into ministry somewhere.
Speaker:Wanting to liberate you from a sin pattern or habit
Speaker:or whatever it is.
Speaker:This morning, you can encounter this God
Speaker:because he is very real.
Speaker:He is very real and he's very present today.
Speaker:So come as we worship.
