Speaker:This month, our featured story comes from Polly.
Speaker:Her story reminds us how integrated Tennessee is into our neighborhoods and is a wonderful
Speaker:way to make new friends.
Speaker:Have a listen and let us know what you think.
Speaker:I moved to Atlanta in 2010 and I only knew one person.
Speaker:It was a lonely summer.
Speaker:But I loved the neighborhood because people were always out and about, smiling, waving
Speaker:and walking dogs.
Speaker:One day, my husband visited Dennis Pavilion and was quickly recruited to play on a main
Speaker:steam.
Speaker:Even though he only played at Biddy High School.
Speaker:After a few weeks, I woke up to the courts to watch a match and I met another player's
Speaker:wife.
Speaker:Neither of us had ever played tennis, but by the end of the match, we had a set date with
Speaker:our husbands to get together and try.
Speaker:We had so much fun that we signed up for lessons.
Speaker:We were invited to join a beginner team and I will never forget how scared I was to get
Speaker:it all right.
Speaker:Scoring, heating, changing sides, but the other ladies helped us through and I wasn't embarrassed
Speaker:at all.
Speaker:After the first season, I was soon on board, weekday and weekend teams and by the next year
Speaker:I had joined Mixed with my husband.
Speaker:After I turned 50, I also joined a senior team.
Speaker:Fast forward through 12 years and I ended up being captain for several teams, playing in
Speaker:city finals, state tournaments and have now joined our pickable league.
Speaker:Two years ago, I moved to Lake Lanier and a tennis team was the first thing I looked for
Speaker:as I knew it would help me to meet new friends.
Speaker:I am so thankful for the ability to pick up and play anytime anywhere, for the coaches
Speaker:that have taught me strategy over the years and for my community of tennis friends that
Speaker:extended beyond the court.
Speaker:Well, there you have it.
