Speaker:

This is going to be controversial, but I'm going to say it anyway. You don't need

Speaker:

a toner. The amount of people that tell me they don't wear sunscreen. I

Speaker:

mean, seriously, we live in Australia. Come on. It's

Speaker:

not the sun. It's the UV rays that we want to block. If

Speaker:

you do those three things, I promise you, you will start

Speaker:

to see a difference in your skin. Welcome

Speaker:

to The Holistic Skin Guru, where what's on the surface is just

Speaker:

as important as what's underneath. I'm your host, Aamena. Let's

Speaker:

dive deep into the world of holistic skincare. Let's

Speaker:

talk skincare basics. I have a mantra, and

Speaker:

my team laugh at me when I say this, but you gotta keep

Speaker:

it clean, you gotta keep it hydrated, and you gotta

Speaker:

keep it out of the sun. If you do those three things, I

Speaker:

promise you, you will start to see a difference in your

Speaker:

skin. I can't begin to tell you

Speaker:

how many people tell me they use soap on

Speaker:

their skin. So they're not using the correct cleanser. They are

Speaker:

throwing the pH balance out of their skin completely. And

Speaker:

the hydration levels are just all over the place. And

Speaker:

the amount of people that tell me they don't wear sunscreen. I mean, seriously,

Speaker:

we live in Australia. We live under the ozone

Speaker:

layer. We are in Queensland. Like, come on, wear

Speaker:

your sunscreen. Choose the right cleanser. Now, a lot

Speaker:

of people are just buying, you know, supermarket

Speaker:

cleansers. And if that's what you can afford, that's fine. But

Speaker:

just have a look at the prices at the supermarket cleansers. I was in

Speaker:

the aisle the other day just scanning the shelves and they're not cheap.

Speaker:

You will be pleasantly surprised if you come to a

Speaker:

clinic like myself and you'll find a cleanser which is

Speaker:

much larger, which you don't have to use as

Speaker:

much, like one pump is sufficient and will last

Speaker:

you a lot longer, but it's a lot healthier for your skin and it actually keeps

Speaker:

the skin pH balance, which is what you want. You

Speaker:

don't want your skin to be stripped of all of its natural

Speaker:

oils. You want it to be able to clean the grime and

Speaker:

the sweat and that off your skin, but you don't want it to take away

Speaker:

the naturally occurring good oils from your

Speaker:

skin. You want it to add to your hydration levels and

Speaker:

you want it to help with your overall health and texture of

Speaker:

your skin. This is going to be controversial, but I'm going to say it anyway.

Speaker:

You don't need a toner. Toners were invented in

Speaker:

the 70s by cosmetic companies to remove the

Speaker:

residue left over by cleansers. Now,

Speaker:

we know that these cleansers are laced with chemicals and sulfates, which

Speaker:

are the biggest problem for us. Check out my videos about sulfates in

Speaker:

skincare and what they mean for you. We'll leave the links below. Understanding

Speaker:

your skin and also how to use key ingredients such

Speaker:

as vitamin B or commonly known as hyaluronic acid

Speaker:

and what other things you can do to increase your hydration levels

Speaker:

as dehydration will lead to fine lines and

Speaker:

fine lines will lead to deeper lines which then

Speaker:

form deep set wrinkles. Taking a daily hydrolyzed

Speaker:

collagen and ensuring that your skincare is clinical,

Speaker:

not cosmetic. I'm going to bang on about this in every episode

Speaker:

if I can, just to get it down your throats, because cosmetic

Speaker:

products are not doing your skin any justice.

Speaker:

Okay, hydrolyzed collagen. It must be a hydrolyzed collagen

Speaker:

because any other type of collagen, the protein is too large

Speaker:

and your skin or your body will not be able to metabolize it

Speaker:

or use the collagen. If you don't want

Speaker:

to take a hydrolyzed collagen supplement, then look at

Speaker:

adding it into your diet by eating lots of

Speaker:

freshly caught fish. Or you can get it from foods

Speaker:

rich in collagen, such as chicken's feet. If you

Speaker:

can stomach that, it's very, very good. Very, very high in

Speaker:

collagen. Sunscreen. Yes, this is

Speaker:

huge because so many women still do not wear

Speaker:

any sunscreen or they think on cloudy days

Speaker:

they don't need it or they use very little because they

Speaker:

want to sort of save money. I don't understand that either. Save

Speaker:

money now and then spend it later to try to fix the problem,

Speaker:

like, just use your sunscreen. On cloudy days some women don't

Speaker:

use it because they don't think they need it. It's not the sun, it's the

Speaker:

UV rays that we want to block. You know, UVA penetrates

Speaker:

really deeply into the skin and it causes damage to the

Speaker:

cells. Photoaging, which is wrinkles and

Speaker:

uneven skin tone, and that's what we're trying to prevent by wearing

Speaker:

a daily sunscreen. The UVB rays,

Speaker:

they penetrate the top layers of the skin, so the dermis and

Speaker:

the epidermis of the skin. And this is

Speaker:

a dangerous one because even though it doesn't go so deep as

Speaker:

the UVA rays do, it damages the skin's DNA,

Speaker:

which then leads to melanomas. So we already know this,

Speaker:

you know, the science is already out there. Skin cancers are huge in Australia. We

Speaker:

want to make sure that it doesn't matter what your complexion is,

Speaker:

whether you're fair or if you have a coloured skin like mine, we

Speaker:

all have to be protecting our skin against the UVA and

Speaker:

UVB rays. by blocking these rays we're

Speaker:

preventing the damage on our skin and we're causing our skin's

Speaker:

aging process to slow down. I like the physical blockers

Speaker:

that contain zinc and I know some of you don't like the white cast

Speaker:

it gives but there are so many On the market,

Speaker:

like the Okeone SPF that we sell in our clinic,

Speaker:

it doesn't have that ugly white cast and you get

Speaker:

the protection that you need. So if you buy the

Speaker:

correct products, you will get the best results and

Speaker:

you won't have to worry about things like white cast on your skin and you can wear

Speaker:

your sunscreen. It feels just like any other moisturizer

Speaker:

on your skin. You don't feel oily or gluggy or anything like

Speaker:

that. And that's the biggest complaint I hear about sunscreens. Now,

Speaker:

that is just the basics. Now I'm going to add on

Speaker:

what I think you need to do once you've mastered

Speaker:

the basics. You need to look at actives, especially

Speaker:

from the age of 30 onwards. We want you to be

Speaker:

on a hyaluronic acid, a collagen, elastin.

Speaker:

Any peptides in your skincare is what we're looking for. Your

Speaker:

daily care has to change if you want to

Speaker:

see results. I think most of us now know

Speaker:

that this is the case, but are still going for

Speaker:

the brands. Like, if you're really drawn to a brand, then

Speaker:

try looking for something that's clinical, okay? Brands

Speaker:

are not your best friend. Brands are all about making profit and

Speaker:

they're not about the quality of skincare. I've

Speaker:

talked about this in other videos. We'll put some links below if

Speaker:

you want to know more about that. I'm going to encourage you to look at clinical products

Speaker:

that are made in Australia that are not only organic, but

Speaker:

sulfate and paraben free, because those

Speaker:

are the products that are actually going to make your skincare work better. You

Speaker:

want to also make sure that it's silicon free because silicon sits

Speaker:

on the skin like a, almost like glad wrap. wood

Speaker:

and prevents your product efficacy. So it doesn't allow for

Speaker:

product penetration. So you want to make sure that the products that

Speaker:

you're using, your cleansers, they do not contain sulfate

Speaker:

or silicons so that your skin can operate the way it

Speaker:

was meant to. And it doesn't prevent, you know, the good

Speaker:

ingredients from actually absorbing into your skin. And we want to

Speaker:

make sure we stay away from parabens. I've done videos on this. We'll

Speaker:

link them below. We'll explain why parabens are dangerous for

Speaker:

you. So roughly at the age of 30, we want to be on a

Speaker:

vitamin C and peptides during the day. And we want

Speaker:

to be on a retinol or a vitamin A at night. If
