Emanuele Pani (00:01.89)

When you hear the word discipline,

How do you feel?

Emanuele Pani (00:12.726)

If the answer is anything close to hard, exhausting, restrictive, sacrifice.

I need you to stay with me. Because that's a lie. That's a story. That's a story that's been sold to you, sold to us our entire life. The story that discipline is something that is done

To you.

By other people. That is an external thing. The story that discipline is hard by

by nature. That the people who have discipline are just

Emanuele Pani (01:09.142)

wired differently. They're different than you. They were just born that way.

And Bebs, the reality is that people who have real discipline, they don't even call it discipline. And today we're gonna find out why. Welcome to CEO Mindset episode four. I'm Emanuele Pani. My friends call me E. Let's get into it. So I want you to think about something that you do every single day.

without thinking about it. Maybe it's brushing your teeth, putting your shoes on, maybe it's kissing your kids, good morning, good night.

Does that require discipline?

Emanuele Pani (02:04.726)

No, right? It just is. It's who you are. It's what you do. It's identity.

Now I want you to think about something else. Something you've been trying to do for for months, maybe years. Is that workout routine that you keep starting and stopping? Is the business habits that you never get to stick? Is that diet that works for a couple of weeks? Why does one feel effortless?

that you don't even consciously think about it. And the other one feels like a war.

A struggle. Well, but is because one lives in your identity, the other one is still making its way there, still trying to get there. And here's what nobody tells you about discipline. Discipline is not a destination, discipline is a bridge.

Emanuele Pani (03:23.98)

And the people you look at that seem to have all together, the people that go to the gym every day, the people who make the calls, the people who are consistently, they're not more disciplined than you, they've just

Crossed that bridge before you enough times that it just became who they are. I'll give you a personal example. I've trained twice a day since I was a kid. I used to play tennis at the Evert Tennis Academy, shout out to the Evert Academy when I was 16. And we trained twice day. And so that is just part of my

identity. I don't have to think about it. My brain doesn't require effort for me to do it. It's just part of my identity. And so

Emanuele Pani (04:27.178)

What if we could start reframing?

Let's start reframing discipline altogether. So instead of it being this hard thing, right, instead of the story that you've had up until now.

I am going to ask you to just hold that belief for a second and see if you can entertain a completely new idea around the word discipline.

Emanuele Pani (05:01.068)

What if discipline is the ultimate form of self love?

Emanuele Pani (05:11.092)

Not self punishment, not restriction, not suffering, just love.

And think about the people who love you the most. Maybe when you were growing up, you had your parents, a great coach, a mentor who believed in you before you did.

Emanuele Pani (05:32.93)

What did they do?

Emanuele Pani (05:36.782)

Де гала стандарт for you.

Emanuele Pani (05:40.866)

They loved you and they pushed you and they said, No, you can do better. No, you can do more. No, there's a different gear to you. There's a different level.

The issue is that first of all that was love. Do you see that now? When you reframe it? When you reframe your coaches and your parents being hard on you and disciplining you to be a better person, do you see how that is love? If you are a parent now and you are disciplined with your kids, is it because you don't love them?

Or is it because you love them and you want the best for them and you believe that they have greatness in them? And so you're there as a parent, as a coach, as a mentor to love those kids. Tough love, maybe. But is it tough love when you want the best for somebody, or is it ultimate love?

The issue now, issue is a strong word. I don't like to use that word, but the the thing now is this you're grown. Nobody's coming. Nobody's coming to save you. Nobody's coming to get you to do the things. And so my question to you is do you love yourself enough to be that person?

Фою.

Emanuele Pani (07:28.418)

Because the reality, Bebs, is that you are disciplined. You're just disciplined to the wrong things. You're disciplined to the wrong decision making. You're disciplined to the wrong habits. You're disciplined to the results you currently have. And so the question is not, do you have discipline?

Because you do. The question is, what are you disciplined to? Because your disciplined to the decision making that is getting you the results you have right now. And if those results aren't what you want, that is not a discipline issue.

Emanuele Pani (08:20.28)

That's a love issue. You don't love yourself enough to discipline your decision making towards that life that you really want.

Emanuele Pani (08:30.732)

And I say that not to be harsh. I say it because I have lived it. Even through my two workouts a day and everything else, there was a time in my life that I was incredibly disciplined to addiction, to self-destruction, to patterns that were slowly, slowly killing me.

And so I had discipline the entire time. I just had discipline pointed at the wrong direction, at the wrong thing.

Because I

I didn't love myself enough to point it towards my desires.

And so now I want to give you something you can reuse for the rest of your life. And I learned this from a mentor and I want you to visualize it with me. So if you're driving, maybe you can pull off to the side of the road. If you're listening to this and you can actually take a piece of pen and paper out, please do so.

Emanuele Pani (09:39.083)

And what I want you to do is take the piece of pen, the piece of pen, the piece of paper and the pen out. And in the top left corner, I want you to write the word

Emanuele Pani (09:55.778)

Desires.

And on the top right corner, I want you to write the word paradigm. And then from each one of those words, you're gonna write draw a line that goes down to the word decision. And then from decision, you're gonna write another line, draw another line that goes to the word discipline.

Emanuele Pani (10:26.264)

This is the diagram of your entire life.

And here is how it works. Desire is what you want. Not what you think you want, not what your parents want, not what your spouse wants, not what looks good on paper. What do you actually want? Deep down. That thing that is pulling you forward. If you remember from episode two, desire is those type C goals. The goals that

excite you, the goals that scare you, the goals that

Even as you think about them right now, you can hear your

Emanuele Pani (11:12.278)

Can I kick him flatter a little bit?

And then paradigm.

is your programming as Bob Proctor defined it is mental conditioning that runs your belief, your habits, and your identity. It's the thermostat that we talked about. It's the accumulated stories of who have you been

Emanuele Pani (11:41.911)

And they're running everything. Another way that I like to describe paradigm is stored information, processing new information. And so you keep doing the same thing over and over. And every single day, both of these forces are pulling at your decisions. Desires say, go this way, make this call, go to this meeting, take this risk, choose this food instead of that food.

Build this thing. Paradigm instead says what? Stay here.

Emanuele Pani (12:21.656)

devil we know it's better than devil we don't know. You're always done it this way. Who do you think you are? What if it doesn't work? What would people think? And in the middle of this tuga war that is constantly going on.

Is your decision?

And discipline.

Is your partner in that moment. And so discipline is the vote you cast for your desire over your paradigm. Your discipline is that partner to the decision-making process. Your discipline is what's there to get you what you ultimate want.

And the way discipline works is one vote, one decision, one moment of choosing your desire over your conditioning. And here is the beautiful truth that changed everything for me.

Emanuele Pani (13:29.324)

You don't need to win the war today.

Wars are hardly won in a single day.

All you get to do today and every day is just cast

One vote.

Emanuele Pani (13:51.951)

Just one vote. One more vote towards who you're becoming.

Emanuele Pani (14:01.72)

versus another vote towards who've you've who you've been. Because here's what happens over time. Every vote that you cast,

starts to shift your paradigm slowly.

And then suddenly

Your paradigm shifts. And so you cast votes, you cast votes, you cast votes, you cast votes, and then one day, Bevs, your paradigm breaks. You wake up one morning, and what used to feel like discipline now feels like freedom. Because your desire and your fire paradigm are finally aligned. The war is over.

You've won. Your thermostat has reset and the new temperature is you. It's whatever it is that you were working on. And let me give you an example from my own life.

Emanuele Pani (15:08.172)

When I started changing my relationship with food, when I started changing my relationship with cocaine, when I started changing my relationship to destructive habits, every decision in the beginning was a vote.

Emanuele Pani (15:27.085)

It was a vote.

And was a vote of being present, being aware to my paradigm. Being present, being aware to the story that I was telling myself, being present, being aware to the pain and the suffering that I was looking to avoid.

Emanuele Pani (15:50.242)

by making the decision, by making the decision that I was always making.

Emanuele Pani (15:58.588)

And I'm not gonna lie to you guys, it wasn't easy at first. The paradigm was loud.

And there was days that I did fail.

Emanuele Pani (16:12.11)

But as I told you guys in episode one.

I just didn't let those failures mean anything. I just kept voting. I just kept voting towards this future version of me. And I just kept voting towards this future version of me. And then one morning I woke up and it wasn't a vote anymore. It was just who I was. The paradigm had shifted. And my discipline to myself in that specific arena of decision making.

had become my identity. And that's the game. That's the three Ds. Desire, decision, and discipline.

Emanuele Pani (17:02.496)

And so I wanna close with this because I think it's the most important thing that I can leave you with today.

The reason discipline can feel like hard is because you're approaching it from the outside. And the moment discipline becomes an inside job, the moment it becomes an expression of how much you love yourself, it stops feeling like a restriction, it stops feeling like a sacrifice, and it starts feeling like freedom. Think about it this way.

It's a hard for me to do the things that I do. Is it hard for me to train as much as I do? Is it hard for me to do this?

No. Why? Because I love what the training is giving me. I love what doing this show is giving me. I love how I feel when I record this podcast, when I record the content, when I launch.

My new course when I see people message me, I just love it. It fills my cup. I love how it feels. I love the standards that it sets for my life. It just feels good.

Emanuele Pani (18:19.83)

And I just love taking care of myself this way. And so I want you to ask yourself something. And not as a judgment, but as an honest mirror. As you guys know, awareness is the beginning of all change. And so where in your life does discipline feel like hard right now?

Because wherever it is hard, that's where you haven't fully loved yourself.

Emanuele Pani (18:56.248)

That's where your old paradigm is still winning. That's where you are living in fear instead of living in in fate.

And so this week

give you something actionable to do, I want you to do this one exercise. I want you to draw the diagram that I told you. So desire on the right, paradigm, the two lines, decision, discipline.

And I want you to feel it for your life right now. So what is your biggest desire? What do you want? What is that big type C goal that you're going after? You got five months left of the year. What are we what are we what are you creating?

Let's bring awareness. What's your paradigm? What are you fighting? What's what's fighting you right now? What's what's in there?

Emanuele Pani (19:58.221)

What's a decision?

That your desire requires you to do.

Emanuele Pani (20:10.188)

And where do you get to cast that vote?

This week.

So hopefully you listen to this on Monday. It's Monday morning. Well it's Monday. Just take a moment, do this. And look at your week. Look at the rest of your week. Look at your schedule. See where you get to cast this vote this week. Just one vote. Not the whole war. Just one vote. And remind yourself every time it feels like hard

This isn't punishment. This is love. Say to yourself, this is me loving myself enough to become who my desires require me to be, to have the life of my dreams, to have everything that I want. And Jim Rohn used to say discipline is the foundation upon which all success is built. Lack of discipline inevitably leads to failure.

The one thing that Jim didn't say, but I think he knew, he felt that he thought about it as well, is that discipline without love is force.

Emanuele Pani (21:28.446)

And you cannot force yourself into the life you want.

But discipline that is rooted in love, in a genuine desire for your own growth, your own freedom.

Emanuele Pani (21:49.462)

your own becoming.

Emanuele Pani (21:53.582)

Brabs. That's unstoppable.

Because the moment you truly love yourself, discipline stops being this hard thing, this hard external thing, and it becomes the only thing that makes sense to you. Because you understand that every time you embrace discipline, and every time you let discipline be the partner to your decision making in the pursuit of your desires, you're casting a vote.

You put in down another square, another piece of wood into this bridge that you're building between where you currently are and where you want to go. And the moment you do that enough, and the moment you start being able to trust yourself and you start embracing this love for yourself and you start seeing the results of your discipline.

Emanuele Pani (22:59.426)

You're gonna become unstoppable. And it's going to become the best part of your life. I love how disciplined I have become to my desires. I love how disciplined I am to my dreams.

Because now I know I get to write my own ticket.

And I have the receipts. Because the moment you continuously make the right decision and cast the right vote, the best part of it is at the moment something else comes up for you, you have a new desire. Because again, your paradigm is always gonna be under construction. So the moment you get to this next level of you, it's time for you to start working on the next, next version of you. But because you've done it, because you understood how it happened.

Emanuele Pani (23:56.899)

Discipline and decisions. Like two friends.

gonna find each other because they've been together the entire time because this is just who you've become and it they're like cool man what are we doing or where are we going after a bigger life a bigger house a bigger business a better relationship better friends more travel more adventure whatever it is just let us know what you want what you truly want

Emanuele Pani (24:31.692)

Get out of the way. Because I know how to make decisions. I am disciplined to my decision making, to my desires. And that's how you pursue, that's how you build, that's how you create a life of your dreams.

And so cast your vote. Cast your vote today. Cast your vote this week. Ciao guys.
