His mom was an athlete of the week and now it's his turn.
Speaker ALet's get started.
Speaker BSir.
Speaker BI will live with perseverance in the spirit of Taekwondo, courtesy for fellow students, integrity within myself, and to become a black belt leader.
Speaker BWelcome to the ATA Nation podcast.
Speaker AInstructors, students, parents, family members, masters, senior masters, chief masters, grandmasters of Ata Nation.
Speaker AWelcome back to the Ata Nation podcast.
Speaker AThis is episode 145.
Speaker AHave you heard all 145 episodes?
Speaker AHave you?
Speaker AI'd love to know.
Speaker ARecently.
Speaker AOkay, side note, recently I was cleaning off some things, getting rid of some things on my computer, and I found the original podcast.
Speaker AI started AtNation podcast back in.
Speaker AWhat was it like 2017, 20, 2016 maybe?
Speaker AWe had some episodes back then.
Speaker AIt didn't go very long.
Speaker AIt went for a little while, a little project I'd done, but I really enjoy.
Speaker AI've kind of become known as this podcast guy and I love listening podcasts.
Speaker ADon't get me wrong, I'm not like obsessed with producing podcasts.
Speaker ALike the heck behind it, the things, behind all the things.
Speaker AWhat I really love is talking to people about martial arts.
Speaker AI love to get information from them, hear what they're doing, get ideas.
Speaker AIt's really, you know, just a lot of fun for me.
Speaker AWe're, we're running, we're helping with business through the business beyond beyond the Mat podcast that is specifically just for ATA licensees.
Speaker AAnd it's been so much fun because it's really, I just get to learn from the best.
Speaker AI just get to interview these best people in the industry and it's fantastic that way.
Speaker AI mean, other people can listen too, because that way, you know, the licensees get to learn great stuff, but I get to learn and I get to get, see all these great ATM martial artists, like our athletes of the week that we've been profiling recently.
Speaker ANow we're going to do something a little bit different today and we're going to go with some upcoming events.
Speaker BHere's what's going on in ATA Nation.
Speaker ASo before we, we get to our athlete of the week this week, I wanted to mention a couple training opportunities that we really haven't talked about recently.
Speaker AWe've been spending a lot of time talking about Spring Nationals.
Speaker AWorlds is coming up, of course, and you want to check that out.
Speaker AI don't think the schedule's up yet for that though, so I think you're safe.
Speaker ABut the ATA max training is going on the road.
Speaker AThey have regional trainings.
Speaker ABy the time you hear this episode, the first one will be done.
Speaker AIt was in Darien, Illinois, April 13, but it's coming to Ventura, California, May 24.
Speaker ASo that might be something you want to check out.
Speaker AIf you haven't been able to go to, like the MAX seminars or Worlds of Nationals or go to the MAX gathering, this might be a great way for you to attend.
Speaker AAlso, you will do not want to miss the Athlete Development Camp in Little Rock in June.
Speaker AThat registration is is just filling up.
Speaker AHuge lots going on in there, so make sure you check that out.
Speaker ALots of ATA MAX trainings coming in September as well.
Speaker ALooks like Oregon, Florida and California, so don't miss checking those out then as well.
Speaker AThere are some camps coming up and.
Speaker CYou can always check these out.
Speaker AIf you go to atamartialarts.com and you head over to the event section on the tabs at the top, you've got all the tournaments, but don't forget to go all the way to the right and check out camps and seminars.
Speaker ASo we've got the ATA European camp in Lisbon, Portugal, which is not going this year, but man, it's on my bucket list.
Speaker AWe're doing that.
Speaker ARegion 112 has their camp in May.
Speaker ARegion 119C has their camp in May.
Speaker AYou want to check those out then.
Speaker ARegion 107 has their camp in August.
Speaker ARegion 119 has their camp in August as well.
Speaker A102A or west has their camp in September.
Speaker A109 has their camp in September as well.
Speaker AAnd then 118 and 102B have their camps in October.
Speaker ANow, I mention these because you might be a higher rank and you're going to need personal development points as you go to continue to train and go for higher and higher ranks.
Speaker AThose personal development points you can achieve at some of these regional camps.
Speaker ASo I would definitely look at attending those regional camps to make sure that you are learning, you know, all the things going on, staying up to date with your curriculum, up to date with your teaching skills, all those kinds of things.
Speaker AGrandmaster MK is really excited that these camps have come back.
Speaker AIt's been a big push of his.
Speaker AIt builds that cohesion and community between our regions, our areas, things like that.
Speaker ASo you want to go and check those out.
Speaker CDon't miss out.
Speaker AI know our regional camp is a lot of fun and just a great bonding experience.
Speaker AThen December, Camp Jong Su again in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Speaker AI think there's some other stuff maybe going on in Little Rock that week, but I'm not.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker AYou didn't Hear anything from me?
Speaker AWe'll see.
Speaker ASo, ladies and gentlemen, that is going to be our upcoming events.

Speaker CAnd what got you started in martial arts?
Speaker DMy parents enrolled me when I was a 6 years old just to see because I didn't do any sports yet to see how I'd like it and then kind of just went from there.
Speaker AKind of going from there.
Speaker CHow old are you now?
Speaker DI'm 12.
Speaker CExcellent.
Speaker AOkay, so you've been in it like half your life.
Speaker CThat's pretty good.
Speaker CI like it.
Speaker CSo you're one of these athletes that the junior brand ambassadors have been choosing to highlight across ATA nation, which has been really neat when it comes to competing.
Speaker CBeing a martial arts athlete, what aspect of your martial arts training or competition.
Speaker AIs the aspect that like, you like?
Speaker COh, if I could spend all the time doing this thing, extreme creative combat, you know, what would it be?
Speaker AForms?
Speaker DI think it'd be sparring.
Speaker DI love sparring.
Speaker DI know I'm not on the taller side, but it's really fun.
Speaker CExcellent.
Speaker CI love to hear that.
Speaker CIt's been great.
Speaker CWe've done quite a few interviews with the athletes so far and everybody's got something different than they like.
Speaker CSome of them it's the creative extreme.
Speaker CSome of them is a forms.
Speaker CSo you are a sparring guy.
Speaker CI love that.
Speaker CTraditional sparring.
Speaker CCombat sparring.
Speaker CDo you have a favorite between the two?
Speaker DMy studio doesn't really practice combat sparring, but so I like traditional sparring better.
Speaker DBut combat spring is also really fun.
Speaker AYou like to kick people in the head, right?
Speaker DYes, sir.
Speaker DYeah, legs don't get that high.
Speaker CWell, you know, you're 12, maybe you are.
Speaker CAre you your family on the shorter side, are you going to get to.
Speaker ABe taller or you stuck the size you are?
Speaker DI don't know, Stuck on the shorter side.
Speaker CI understand.
Speaker CHey, there's some awesome athletes out there on the shorter side, you know, have you ever Master Havaducci sparring, Master Haynes, you know, big height difference but there's some pretty awesome athletes doing some great things.
Speaker CSo what now, if you had to pick, like, in your training?
Speaker CWe love martial arts.
Speaker CWe love all the different things of martial arts.
Speaker CBut if there was an event at like a tournament that you were like, I.
Speaker CIf I have to skip one, I'll skip this one.
Speaker AWhat would that be?
Speaker DI'm gonna say they're combat mine because I don't really practice it that much.
Speaker DCreative forms, because I'm very new to it.
Speaker CAre you new to it this year?
Speaker DSo.
Speaker CExcellent.
Speaker AVery neat.
Speaker COkay, that makes sense.
Speaker CYou know, getting new to it.
Speaker CHave you done, like, weapons?
Speaker CVery cool.
Speaker CAwesome.
Speaker AVery good.
Speaker AOh, good deal.
Speaker CI love that.
Speaker CYeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker CIf you, if you.
Speaker CWhat weapon are you?
Speaker CThat's the.
Speaker CIf you had to pick a weapon.
Speaker AWhat'S the weapon you'd go for for traditional forms?
Speaker DI do Chucks, sir.
Speaker CNice.
Speaker CLove it.
Speaker COne of my favorites.
Speaker CI, I started with the Chuck's first degree.
Speaker CReally loved it.
Speaker CGot into the top four for that.
Speaker CSo good deal.
Speaker CWhat kind of goals do you have in your martial arts training?
Speaker CMaybe short term, maybe long term.
Speaker CWhat are you looking at trying to achieve?
Speaker DI'm gonna say, like kind of short term, kind of long term.
Speaker DI want to win the world championship, sir.
Speaker ANice.
Speaker CWhat event?
Speaker CAny event, specific event, all the events.
Speaker CI like it.
Speaker CThat is a great goal.
Speaker AGood.
Speaker CYou gotta set.
Speaker DI got second place in forms in weapons.
Speaker AOh, man.
Speaker CSecond.
Speaker DOh, one point for both events.
Speaker COh, one point.
Speaker CAnd what did you learn from that?
Speaker CLike how.
Speaker CHow did you move on from that?
Speaker CThat's a tough one.
Speaker DWell, I just told myself I gotta keep going.
Speaker DI can do this next year.
Speaker DI mean, I was stuck on it for a bit, but, you know, you just gotta get out from that phase.
Speaker AYeah, it is.
Speaker CIt's tough to get by that.
Speaker CYou know, you get.
Speaker CI tell my students, you get a little bit of time to commiserate, to feel bad because, you know, you worked so hard.
Speaker AYou should get a little bit of.
Speaker CTime to, you know, be like.
Speaker CBut then you got to pick yourself back up and get back to training and try again for the next year.
Speaker CNow I've got a question for you.
Speaker CAs one of these youth athletes.
Speaker AWhat does it mean to you to.
Speaker CBe an athlete that goes beyond the belt?
Speaker DFor me to be an athlete that goes beyond the belt, I think it means like inspiring others to work as hard as me to, to train more, to like all that stuff.
Speaker CYes, I love that idea of inspiring others.
Speaker AWhat a great, what a great thing.
Speaker CWe love to see you guys, these athletes all across 18 nation being highlighted, getting to show off.
Speaker CWe love to see you guys competing.

Speaker CI know you guys had a class.
Speaker AC just recently at your school.
Speaker DWere you last weekend?
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CWill you be out at Fort Worth?
Speaker DI don't think so.
Speaker CNot this time.
Speaker ANo problem.
Speaker CHey, I haven't.
Speaker DThe tournament I'm going to would be spring nationals because there's one in Conroe, but I'm going to be out of town.
Speaker CGotcha.
Speaker COff to nationals.
Speaker CGet some of those big points at nationals.
