Speaker A

Foreign.

Speaker B

And welcome to the Pat Accounting Podcast with me, your host, Vicky Clark.

Speaker B

I'm going to help you get to grips with your finances, save you lots of money and take the stress out of doing your tax return.

Speaker B

So let's get going.

Speaker A

Oh, we're live.

Speaker A

Hello, everyone.

Speaker A

Welcome back to our Lunchtime lives.

Speaker A

It used to be called Wine Down Wednesday, but we never have any wine, it's always at lunchtime.

Speaker A

So we're going to just call them Lunchtime Lives now.

Speaker A

And apologies that we have not been on for a while, if you are new here and we've had quite a lot of people join the group and we haven't done a live probably for about six weeks and so apologies for that everybody.

Speaker A

And the reason being I was on holiday and then Lee was on holiday and then we ended up taking on a few new staff and then I got Covid and probably still have it and it's just been a bit of a poo show.

Speaker A

So we do apologize for not being on here because I know people do enjoy our podcasts.

Speaker A

And as you can see, Lee's not with me today.

Speaker A

I've got the lovely Tegan because we're just slammed with self assessment.

Speaker A

So we've only got me today, which is fine.

Speaker A

And today we are going to chat about tips for new businesses.

Speaker A

But before I get into that, I'm just going to give you guys some updates on what we've been up to and why.

Speaker A

We have been a little bit quiet on the old live front.

Speaker A

The first is, as some of you know and most of you know, the Pet Pro Expo is coming closer.

Speaker A

We are a month yesterday.

Speaker A

Four weeks yesterday.

Speaker A

It's the 15th of November.

Speaker C

Oh, yeah, yeah, it's four weeks Saturday.

Speaker A

Well, yeah, whatever.

Speaker A

However the days work, it's four weeks away anyway.

Speaker A

So if you haven't grabbed your ticket yet, we still have online tickets available because the event is getting live streamed on the day and so you will see what everyone else sees in the room.

Speaker A

So if you still wonder, I saw on the fence, grab a ticket before we close the doors on that, we have a couple of spaces left for in person because a couple of people have swapped it online.

Speaker A

So if you did want to come and venture in person, then please let us know.

Speaker A

And because we've got a couple of seats left and then, yes, it'll be full.

Speaker A

So looking forward to that.

Speaker A

We've had all the goodie bags done, we've had lots of things sent, put in the goodie bags.

Speaker A

We've bought loads of extra bits.

Speaker A

It's all in full flow.

Speaker A

So if you are going, we will see you there on the Friday and Saturday and then we'll let you know how it's gone afterwards.

Speaker A

But I will be having a large trip once it's over because it's been very stressful to organize.

Speaker C

Oh, it has been, yeah.

Speaker C

But it'll be worth it.

Speaker C

I think it's worth mentioning as well that the tickets that are currently on sale are virtual on the day access only.

Speaker C

So it's 1312 speakers on the day.

Speaker C

Um, the ones that were on sale before was the full access for online, so that was like for the seven online seminars and the on the day access and they were a bit more.

Speaker C

Because obviously you get more included.

Speaker C

So the ones that are available for you to be in the comp, your own home and still have access to the actual expo on the day on the 15th of November and they're just 99 pounds.

Speaker C

If you want to grab one of those, there's links all over social media to grab one of them.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

And it's a business expense, so there you go.

Speaker C

Even better.

Speaker A

So that's that.

Speaker C

See, Abby's watching, by the way, so I just want to say hi.

Speaker A

Hi, Abby.

Speaker C

And I hope the doggies are all well.

Speaker A

So that's that.

Speaker A

We have some new staff to add into the mix.

Speaker A

So if you get a call from someone called Sophie, then she is our new admin apprentice alongside Emily and Nicola.

Speaker A

So she's going to be helping Emily, so be nice to her if she rings you because she's a little bit nervous, bless her.

Speaker A

Bit nervous to start, but yeah.

Speaker A

So if we get a call from Sophie, she is part of the pet accountant, so don't worry, she's not a scammer.

Speaker A

We've also taken on another accountant called sue and a couple of bookkeepers as well.

Speaker A

So we're getting fully stocked, ready for making Tax digital next year.

Speaker A

So that's kept us busy as well, getting them up to date with everything and obviously explain them what the pet accountant is because we're different to other accountants.

Speaker A

So even though they know how to do the accountancy side, they've got to learn about us and what we do and how our clients are like and what the clients are like.

Speaker A

So importantly, that's been full.

Speaker A

I've been building two desks with Emily this morning.

Speaker A

That took us about four hours.

Speaker A

Factor why it wasn't working.

Speaker A

We realized we had the wrong legs on the wrong table.

Speaker C

The people are watching.

Speaker A

Luck is like so much.

Speaker A

Although how many staff does it Take to build a desk, as it turns out.

Speaker A

So that's what we've been doing this morning.

Speaker A

We have also.

Speaker A

Hi.

Speaker C

Perry.

Speaker C

Perry's.

Speaker C

But good luck.

Speaker C

New people.

Speaker C

I remember working for the team.

Speaker C

It was a good time.

Speaker A

I. Oh, he was the best admin.

Speaker C

Perry was there before I was there.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker C

Don told like an og.

Speaker A

He's an og.

Speaker A

We've also opened our books back up again for the 2425 tax return.

Speaker A

We only have a small availability so it is going to be on a first come, first serve basis.

Speaker A

So if you are needing your 2425 done and you haven't contacted us, now is the time.

Speaker A

If you have contacted us prior and we said our books list, we have reopened them and I will be able.

Speaker C

To talk to everybody.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Tegan has a girl that you'll speak to and once we're full, we're full again.

Speaker A

The doors will close again.

Speaker A

So it's only a small window and it will be a first come, first serve.

Speaker A

But we're open for now.

Speaker C

Yeah.

Speaker A

And then we're loads.

Speaker C

If anyone does listen like that has been in touch and I have said we're putting you on the wait list.

Speaker C

Or maybe I went back to you to say that we did have a wait list.

Speaker C

Books are closed and I will be just getting back in touch just to let you know I've that have opened back up.

Speaker C

So.

Speaker C

Yeah.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

And apologies.

Speaker A

I'm a bit sniffly because I think I still have Covid.

Speaker A

I have been a bit slow on.

Speaker C

The e. I laugh.

Speaker C

It's just because you've had the sniffles for three weeks.

Speaker C

I shouldn't.

Speaker A

I'm not laughing because I know I haven't been slow my emails and getting back to people but that's just because I'm not being very well.

Speaker A

But we power through and we're here.

Speaker A

So.

Speaker A

Oh, and then last update before we get into the fun stuff and our package, we've got a new offer in the package.

Speaker A

So I will let Tegan tell you what that is.

Speaker C

We have.

Speaker C

So I did a video on it yesterday which on the socials but it's an offer which is 50% off our all in one package for the first two months.

Speaker C

So it's amazing.

Speaker C

Offer me and you get it half price for the first two months all in one package.

Speaker C

For those of you that don't know, maybe a new listener, you've just not been familiar the package yet.

Speaker C

It's a comprehensive package that we offer at the Pet Accountant that covers you from all angles, whether you're a sole trader, partnership, limited company.

Speaker C

You can make the most of the package and it includes the accounts Xero software.

Speaker C

So if you're not on software yet and you want to get on software ready for making Tax Digital, you have an allocated bookkeeper who's going to do all the number work throughout the year and take that off your hands and you get unlimited bookkeeping.

Speaker C

So the package is really popular I think because you get that unlimited bookkeeping knowing that you've got that security, that as your business gets busier and you have more bookkeeping being carried out more we're not going to start building anymore for that and there's a lot of support included as well that we your bookkeeper.

Speaker C

I say we, I'm not the bookkeepers.

Speaker C

But they will run reports and look at how your business is performing and feed that back to you in these amazing booklets.

Speaker C

I wish I had one to show but they've got like pie charts and graphs that are going to break down how your business is doing, making sure you head in the right direction, let you know how much tax you should be saving and just help prepare you throughout the year.

Speaker C

So, so that's all included in the package.

Speaker C

We do base it on turnover and how many bank accounts are used to make it fair because we have brand new businesses joining the package all the time and then like, you know, well established businesses that are turnover above a million pounds.

Speaker C

So we, we have to make it fair in that sense and we have a calculator.

Speaker C

If you're thinking the package sounds amazing, get in touch, we'll talk through how it all works, give you the fees, but it is starting from, with the offer on from 61.50amonth.

Speaker C

So, so it is amazing package.

Speaker C

Yeah, is an absolute bargain.

Speaker C

So that's, that's that.

Speaker C

But if you're interested, just getting to.

Speaker C

Can you put my email on Vic.

Speaker A

Just if I know I will give it a whirl.

Speaker C

Just messages on there.

Speaker C

Oh, you've done it.

Speaker C

Or just messages or any socials.

Speaker C

If you listen to this on the.

Speaker A

Podcast Magic, there it is.

Speaker A

It is listeners Tegan T E G Y N at Culpio C U l p e o.co.uk oh yeah, thank you office.

Speaker A

Or you can replace Tegan Vicky and you can get through to me.

Speaker A

But yes, if you are interested then give us a shout, especially if you are over the 50 grand turnover bracket because make and Tax Digital will apply to you next April.

Speaker A

And if you are not on software then that is something you are really going to need to look into in the new year at the latest because you will have to comply with the MTD rules as of April, if your turnover, not your profit, if Your turnover is £50,000 or more, and that includes landlords or landlords.

Speaker A

So if you have a flat and you self employed, then you have to combine them and if you're over 50 grand, it will apply to you next April.

Speaker A

As we get more information on that, we will do another live dedicated to making tax digital.

Speaker A

At the minute there's nothing really much extra come out, but we will let you know as soon as we know.

Speaker A

And clients will get an email because obviously if they want to take us up on that service to do their MTD submissions, then we will obviously be offering that to the clients as well.

Speaker A

Yes, get in touch if you're over 50 grand, especially because it will affect you and it is not optional, it is compulsory.

Speaker A

So we have to do it right now we've caught up and like I say, apologies again for being so crap and not doing one for ages.

Speaker A

But we are back and we'll be back now every week leading up to the Expo and maybe we'll do a live at the Expo, who knows?

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

So I thought it would be really good to do a quick session for new businesses and sort of the do's and don'ts and the things that we see that people do and how they get mixed up and just give you guys some tips on how to get started.

Speaker A

And a lot of these tips that we're going to give you are also in our Pet Business Basics course.

Speaker A

So if you are a new business and you haven't got a clue on what you're doing, then check that Pet Business Basics course out on our website.

Speaker A

It will be on there £49 as well and it covers and it has everything you're going to need to know in there from registering with HMRC to submitting your first tax return.

Speaker A

So just have a look at it if you are on your business.

Speaker A

But we're going to give you some tips now as well.

Speaker A

So the very first thing that you guys need to do and where people still get it wrong is when you register with HMRC as self employed.

Speaker A

Now I do see a lot of time on the socials where people go, I'm new, I'm going to set up my dog walking business and how do I register with Companies House?

Speaker A

Companies House and HMRC are very, very different.

Speaker A

You register with Companies House if you're going to be a limited company and you register with hmrc.

Speaker A

If you're going to be a sole trader, self assigned assessment client, so you need to know the difference and you need to know which entity you want to trade as.

Speaker A

To start with.

Speaker A

We always say sole trader is the best way to go because it's the easiest one to do and it hasn't got as much hard stuff around it to get your head around it.

Speaker A

Just simple, isn't it?

Speaker A

Yeah, it's simple.

Speaker C

What tax return a year, One tax.

Speaker A

Return a year, register of HMRC once and then you're done.

Speaker A

You'll get your UTR number and off you go.

Speaker A

If you go down limited company route, it is a lot more complex and people can even set the limited company up wrong, which then causes a lot of hassle and a lot of money to fix.

Speaker A

So there are two very, very different routes and sometimes people get a bit confused with who they should be registering with.

Speaker A

So make sure if you've gone down the sole trader route that you register with hmrc.

Speaker A

If you're going down the limited company route, you will need to set the company up via Companies House.

Speaker A

So again, do your research.

Speaker A

We've got a podcast on somewhere we've done over the last six months about the differences between the sole trading and the.

Speaker A

So I'm not going to go into depth about that now, but go and check out the previous podcast with regards to that and it will go through the differences.

Speaker A

But 99 times out of 100 people will go down the sole trader week because it's a lot easier, a lot simpler and it's a lot cheaper.

Speaker C

Yeah, people ask me all the time on the inquiries which route to go down.

Speaker C

What I always say is go soul trades.

Speaker A

It's nice and simple.

Speaker C

Like you just deal with the hmrc, get your tax return done, but then if you, especially if you came as a client with us, our accountants would look each year at your business, at how it's performing and then have an accountant advise you on whether it's going to be beneficial.

Speaker C

You become limited company because you see all the time that people set up as a limited company at the forefront and then actually end up costing themselves more money.

Speaker C

So it's easy.

Speaker A

A lot of, a lot of accountants, if you go to them and say, I want to be a limit company, we'll just say yes, okay.

Speaker A

Because the limited company fees are four or five times more than the sole trade of these.

Speaker A

So ours, our sole trader fee is £27 plus a month and then our limited company can start from like 100 to 300 pounds a month, depending on your turnover.

Speaker A

But there is a massive, massive difference in price.

Speaker A

And some accountants I hate to sit out there, are greedy.

Speaker A

And if you go to them and say, right, I'm Receptor Limit company, they'll go yet, no problem, and they'll set you up and then they'll charge you a fortune.

Speaker A

And that is why we get a lot of limited companies coming to us, that after they've had a chat with Lindsay, they then decide, actually, I'm more better off being a sole trader, and they shut that limited company down and they go back.

Speaker C

Don't encounter limited accountant.

Speaker A

Yeah, don't panic.

Speaker A

If you listen to this thinking, I've registered this company's house and I shouldn't have, you can close them down, you can swap midway through, it's not the end of the world, it can be fixed.

Speaker A

So if you are sitting there thinking, bugger, I've done the wrong one, then don't panic, it can be fixed, but just do your research before you register with the interval to make sure that you register with the right one.

Speaker A

My second thing, once you've registered, are you going to say.

Speaker A

So you're going to.

Speaker C

I was going to say, you're going to say, how to register.

Speaker C

If somebody's listening, thinking, how to do it either online or ring up?

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

So you can ring up if you've got spare five hours to wait on the phone and.

Speaker A

Or you can do it online and you can register online.

Speaker A

We can do it.

Speaker A

If you're wanting to become a client, we can register for you, but just do it online because it's easier, it's quicker, and if you ring up, you will be on hold for about five hours.

Speaker A

So online is always the best way to do it.

Speaker A

And if you want to set up with a limited company, I would get the help of an accountant because there's shares and all sorts you need to sort of factor in.

Speaker A

So get professional help with that one.

Speaker A

Once you've done all that, the next thing would be, right, how am I going to record what I do?

Speaker A

How am I going to record my income?

Speaker A

How am I going to record my expenses?

Speaker A

Because Tegan didn't do it the right way when she started digitigan.

Speaker A

Thanks.

Speaker C

Dobbing me in.

Speaker C

No, I didn't get a separate bank account.

Speaker C

Well, the thing is, as a sole trade, you don't legally have to have a separate bank account, but it is recommended and it is more efficient doing it that way because you're going to look at that separate bank account, knowing what's coming out is purely business related, especially if it all going digital then connecting that to accounting software, it's just the best way rather than using your personal life like I did for my dog grooming and then I was having to fill in my spreadsheets but print out my bank statements sitting there highlighting everything and it's just so much more time consuming.

Speaker C

So yeah, it's really like if you're a sole trader it's just understanding your like tax year.

Speaker C

Like you've got to keep on top of your records from 6th April to 5th April the following year.

Speaker C

Keep on top of all the income, all the expenditure and how you're going to record it.

Speaker C

This is obviously why I do like talk people through this on our initial phone calls and that could be on a spreadsheet if people have got a few years before it becomes MTD compliant for them with their turnover level being a bit lower.

Speaker C

But still a lot of people choose to go on accounting software because there's lots of perks and it is very much malficient.

Speaker A

Yeah, it's.

Speaker A

I know people are worried about technology and I'm the first person because I'm a technophobe.

Speaker C

We're all technophobes compared to Lee.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

The software makes it so much easier because it connects to your bank and then you've just got to go in and label everything.

Speaker C

Yeah, just mirror the bank account.

Speaker C

So.

Speaker A

Yeah, bank account.

Speaker A

So if you've got a separate bank account, anything that goes in and out is on there and you just got to go in and label it.

Speaker A

Either sales or whatever the expense is.

Speaker A

The most popular ones that we see are Free Agent Zero.

Speaker A

They're the two that we use and Dext.

Speaker A

Dext is like really, really basic free agents sort of in the middle.

Speaker A

And then Xero is probably.

Speaker C

We do an episode on this the other week, didn't we, about the different softwares.

Speaker A

Go and check that out because we're not going to go through all of them.

Speaker A

But my favorite is Free agent.

Speaker A

Least favorite Zero.

Speaker A

For a small business I would lean more towards free agent because it's easier to use, it's more user friendly and we've seen how they're doing the MTD side of it as well.

Speaker A

And again that is pretty user friendly as well.

Speaker A

So that would be my recommendation for anyone just starting out and they need software.

Speaker A

You put me off.

Speaker C

Sorry, sorry.

Speaker C

I was going to say we can.

Speaker A

Get discounted free agent subscriptions as well and get discounted.

Speaker A

I did tell her about this before.

Speaker A

I'm in flow.

Speaker A

Don't interrupt because I'll lose it.

Speaker A

And I thought I was even going to say.

Speaker A

So that that's the end, that conversation.

Speaker A

So, yes, get free agents if you are a new business, because it is user friendly and we do have a course.

Speaker A

Well, it's not a really course, it's a guide, a free agent guide with loads of videos with me and Lee basically telling you in really simple terms how to do things.

Speaker A

So it's like, click here, click this, click this, put that figure in there.

Speaker A

There's no, like accountancy jargon behind it.

Speaker A

It's just literally, click this button, click this button, click this button.

Speaker A

Because obviously they're more common things that we find that people do wrong in the software.

Speaker A

So we thought we'd put something together to stop you doing it and then you can do your bookkeeping and you don't necessarily have to pay for an accountant.

Speaker A

So win, win.

Speaker C

That's £40 to buy on our website.

Speaker A

£40.

Speaker A

There we go.

Speaker A

And I think that is in the store section and I'm sure I have a little thing for that.

Speaker A

Yes, I do.

Speaker C

Yeah, that pet business basics and use free agent like a pro.

Speaker C

Tutorials are both in the store.

Speaker A

Tutorial, that's the word I was looking for, tutorial.

Speaker A

So you've registered with HMRC as a sole trader, then you've got your free agent software, you've got your separate bank account, as Tegan says, and you link those two together and then you are good to go.

Speaker C

Keep on top of it regularly.

Speaker A

Keep on top of it regularly.

Speaker A

And don't do what Tegan did and wait till January to fill up spreadsheet.

Speaker C

Don't you do anything that I did.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Don't put drawings as an expense.

Speaker C

Oh, I talk experience, though.

Speaker C

I can tell people what not to do.

Speaker A

Yeah, don't put drawings as an expense because it's not.

Speaker A

I've got really take up your time, Come on up.

Speaker A

And it's a good job that she met an accountant to get her books right in the end.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

But there we go.

Speaker A

So you've got all that.

Speaker A

You just need to keep on top of it, where they do every week, every month.

Speaker A

Just keep on top of it and you know, look at, you know, because you're probably going to have to think about your pricing and things.

Speaker A

You need to look at what money you need to earn.

Speaker A

And this is where an accountant can help as well, because a lot of people just copy other people's prices or there's no real structure to it.

Speaker A

So please Please, please look at your figures, look at what you need to earn, look what your expenses are and then think, right, if all my expenses every month of this and I need to make X, how do I need to then work my pricing out?

Speaker A

So do it methodically and get some help if you're unsure because the software as well will be able to help you manage that and see where cash flow on things.

Speaker A

So that is another positive point with the software.

Speaker A

Go for it.

Speaker C

Thank you.

Speaker C

We also have the pricing tax calculator for those that might not be able to afford a bookkeeper but want to be able to like put in their desired income of what they want to earn with all of like their expenses and income and it calculates like tax within that as well and it will tell you how much you should be charging per hour per dog to generate that desired income and how much tax you should be saving.

Speaker C

So that's a really good tool that's on our store, storefront and that's only 24.95 to buy and then you can just reuse each year.

Speaker C

But like Vic was saying, bookkeepers as well, doing your bookkeeping like they're, they're dealing with present figures so they can look at your business in this moment in time and have that person to chat like with to talk about what you can afford to do.

Speaker C

I'm a price myself, right.

Speaker C

So our package and we have the 50 off for the first two months is really good for people that want more support to help make sure that, that they're prizing themselves right from the beginning.

Speaker C

And honestly I think we've had more brand new businesses on the package in the last, I'd say three to six units and we did last year.

Speaker C

It's just people know they've got to get on software in the future.

Speaker C

So a lot of people are saying to me, as new businesses, why get onto a spreadsheet now, getting to a routine of them spreadsheet, when I'm going to have to change on software in a year or two anyway.

Speaker C

And like we were saying, spreadsheets can be pretty time consuming, you having to write down the whole transactions.

Speaker C

But you know, software's a lot more quicker and efficient state if you've got a bookkeeper doing it.

Speaker C

Some people say to me, Tegan, I just can't be asked, I just want to hand it all over and you just do it all and then you can focus on your business, the advertising, the social media, getting the clients in and have somebody just doing all the.

Speaker A

Number work for you and Also, if hmrc, if you won't get audited by hmrc and we are seeing a lot more people getting auditors.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

It's a lot easier to show them things if you're on software, because everything will be on that software than it is when you're on a spreadsheet and you haven't to hunt around for everything.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

So it does make it easier on that score as well.

Speaker A

And, you know, some people we speak to are quite number savvy and they can do, you know, they can do their own self assessment or they can do their own bookkeeping, but if you are not one of those people and you dread the thought of doing every month, or you just have got a clue what is allowable, what isn't, then please invest in an accountant.

Speaker A

An accountant is one of the most important people in your business life.

Speaker A

If you are not savvy when it comes to the finance side of things, and there's no shame in that, you know, this is what we're, this is what we're here for, is to help you.

Speaker A

So you need to make sure that you have a good accountant in your corner.

Speaker A

Whether that is us, whether that is someone else, it's absolutely fine.

Speaker A

But please, please, please, if you're going to invest in anything, invest in a good accountant because they can help you with everything, your pricing, you know, your cash flow, looking at, you know, everything that's going in and out, look at what you can afford, you know, they can put a plan together for you, so it's well worth the money.

Speaker A

Now, what I would say, and I've covered this before as well, is do your due diligence when you're looking into accountants.

Speaker A

I know some people prefer a local one that they can go and walk to, and we cover the whole of the uk, but we get that some people like to physically see their accountant every day or however long.

Speaker A

Just please check into them.

Speaker A

Because we've had so many clients come who've had rogue accountants and they've not checked whether they're licensed, whether they can actually do the job, their background, you know, they've just not asked the questions and they're getting charged thousands of pounds for something that they shouldn't.

Speaker A

It could be costing them £27.

Speaker A

So just please, please, please look into who you're giving your figures and your money to, like you would anything else.

Speaker A

Because unfortunately, accountancy isn't a regulated sector and Tegan could decide to call herself an accountant tomorrow and you'd be none the wiser.

Speaker C

He wants me to know accountant that.

Speaker A

She'S terrible at bookkeeping.

Speaker A

So.

Speaker A

So you've got to check these things.

Speaker C

I think as well like we do have people that say they want a local account and I get that people like that face to face communication.

Speaker C

We do offer teams and zooms if clients I think which is even better.

Speaker A

Because you can do it in your pajamas.

Speaker C

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker C

I've had like discovery calls with people that have gone look I want to become a client but I don't really like phone calls and emails.

Speaker C

Can we communicate face to face on the teams?

Speaker C

And I've done that a few times and that's absolutely fine.

Speaker C

People like to see people's faces who they're talking to But I always think that having an accountant that understands your industry and your business is better than having a local accountant who's never worked with a dog walker, dog trained or groomer ever before.

Speaker C

Like so you know my background being grooming I ran my own dog grooming business business.

Speaker C

Bryony sat next to me, he's ran her own dog walking business and it really is important because jonapple onto the camera.

Speaker C

Hello me Briany have got some videos.

Speaker A

Coming up talking about you social media.

Speaker A

So Brian and Keegan work together on the sales and the social media and the Tick tock.

Speaker A

We haven't checked out the pet account and tick tock.

Speaker A

Yeah but these two because there was endless amounts of funny videos on there.

Speaker A

Some with me in but mostly with everybody else me all on the floor.

Speaker C

Yeah, Te Fly brought that up today.

Speaker A

So please check out the pet on Tik Tok and give it a follow cuz they love it.

Speaker C

Yeah but what I was saying is that understanding the business is crucial because like the pet account we know what you can claim for whereas maybe a local accountant generic account and won't be able to make the most of them like tax deductible expenses that are going to lower your tax bill down but also I think with us like we speak your language.

Speaker C

I can.

Speaker C

I was talking to a client today that wants to come onto the package.

Speaker C

We're having like a half an hour chat, having a laugh, talk about dog grooming.

Speaker C

Seeing you know I haven't spoke to in a good few months and it was just lovely to have a catch up but like I'll speak to so many people that come from generic local accountants and they always say I don't really get what they're talking about, I don't get the language, I don't get the terminology.

Speaker C

They don't really understand what I Do I feel a bit like, you know, not very confident talking to them.

Speaker C

But with us, I think we are just like normal people that.

Speaker A

To have a giggle, like to have.

Speaker C

A laugh, take your account seriously.

Speaker C

I always say don't take life serious seriously at all.

Speaker C

But I think that's what people like as well.

Speaker C

So one thing that's really important, I did a video on this not long ago, was you need to be able to feel like you can talk to your accountant or your bookkeeper.

Speaker C

And if you're with an accountant or bookkeeper currently listening to this, they're not the bookkeeper and accountant for you.

Speaker C

If you feel like you can't talk to them, it's as simple as that.

Speaker A

They need to be your best friend at the end of the day and, you know, you need to be able to just ring them up and go, right, how?

Speaker A

I can't speak to Vicky, Can I speak to Keegan or whoever and not feel that dread or pit in your stomach of, oh, my God, like, I don't know what to ask.

Speaker A

I'm going to feel stupid, they're going to laugh, whatever.

Speaker A

Like, you'll not get that with us.

Speaker A

We are very, very chill and everyone here is the same, you know, when we hire people, we do, you know, hire people based on their personality as well.

Speaker A

They've got to, they've got to fit what we are and what we give to people.

Speaker A

So it is very, very important to us who we get on board and this love company that we have.

Speaker A

I don't know what to say there.

Speaker A

I just made that up.

Speaker C

That was fine.

Speaker C

But also, like, I know we're doing this, this episode for, like, more new businesses.

Speaker C

Whether you're a new business or a bit more established in anything we've said, like, resonates with you.

Speaker C

Like, I've been that person in your shoes that didn't know what to do and thought I could do it on myself.

Speaker C

Found it very overwhelming, didn't know if I was doing it right.

Speaker C

And like, I think knowing that I've been in your shoes and I'm the person that you speak to the forefront that can talk you for everything you should be doing, talk you through how we can help and the different options.

Speaker C

If you are interested in just having a chat, like, it's a, it's a free discovery call, phone call on teams, we can have a chat.

Speaker C

And a chat never hurts anyone, does it?

Speaker C

And see where you want to go from there.

Speaker A

And also another tip for new businesses, don't always believe what you read on social media, because there's a lot of people there that seek for things that you can't and you will fall foul of it.

Speaker A

Always.

Speaker A

Always.

Speaker A

If you're unsure, check with a professional.

Speaker A

And if someone is saying that you can claim online, ask for a link to wherever they found that information to prove to you that it is a legitimate expense.

Speaker A

Because we see it so often, all the different Facebook groups where people are saying, oh, yeah, you can claim for chiropractors and massages and this and that, and you can't.

Speaker A

And, you know, if HMRC come knocking, it's not something that you want to happen.

Speaker A

And they will then delve into every other tax return you've ever done.

Speaker A

So just please, you know, speak to a professional if you're not sure, don't listen to everybody on social media.

Speaker A

That's why we created this group.

Speaker A

So when people ask questions, we make sure that the answers that everyone's given are correct and you're not getting misleading information, monitored information.

Speaker A

That was the whole reason I started this group years ago, was because I was sick of seeing people put the wrong information and then people going away with that wrong information.

Speaker A

So that is what this group is for, is to educate and help people when it comes to the finance side and the tax side and make sure that we do it right.

Speaker A

So another tip would be to join Bridget Group and then you can look back, you could type anything in the search option, van, car, how to claim for that.

Speaker A

You know, is this allowable?

Speaker A

Is that allowable?

Speaker A

It's probably been asked in the group and answered by one of the team.

Speaker A

So please use that as a, as a library resource when you come to do your tax return.

Speaker A

If it hasn't, ask it.

Speaker C

You can ask it.

Speaker A

Yeah, you can do it anonymously, that's fine.

Speaker A

We always check them and if anyone else has answered it and that's correct, then we'll just like it.

Speaker A

And then if anyone puts the wrong answer in, we'll either remove it or we'll just say, no, that's incorrect.

Speaker A

And this is why.

Speaker A

So you can be rest assured that the group is a good resource to have follow the podcast because we will do weekly podcasts on that.

Speaker A

Moving forward, just had a little slight break, but now we're back.

Speaker A

And if you haven't got a ticket to the Expo, then please grab one because it is going to be a very, very good day and we are covering a lot of topics with a lot of very, very good people.

Speaker A

Please, if you are free on the 15th of November, even if you want to watch it from home.

Speaker A

Like I said, it's gonna be live streamed.

Speaker A

So you're not going to be just watching the recording after it's done.

Speaker A

You'll be watching it as it happens on the day and you'll see how stressed I will be on that day.

Speaker A

It was Mabel Perry who did that.

Speaker A

The background always the same.

Speaker A

Whenever I come on live, they're quiet.

Speaker A

And then soon as we come on alive, they bark.

Speaker A

They're being good.

Speaker A

To be fair, they have been good.

Speaker A

The ponies waiting lunchtime.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

The saints lunchtime.

Speaker A

So just a few little tips there.

Speaker A

Like I said, if you want to go into a lot of depth, if you're a new business, then please check out the Pet Business Basics course because it does cover everything in a lot of detail including VAT and things like that.

Speaker A

So and marketing and social media.

Speaker A

Everything.

Speaker A

Everything you're going to need is in that course.

Speaker A

It's only 49 quid, it's liable expense.

Speaker A

So if you want us to listen to me and me go into more detail on those, then please go and grab that course course because it will help you and it does get updated when things change.

Speaker A

Obviously with a budget coming up.

Speaker A

Again, we will cover that as well when it happens.

Speaker A

And again, like I said to you, if there's any topics that you want us to cover then please let me know and we can go through it.

Speaker A

And yeah, next week hopefully it will be myself and Lee will show his face and we'll go through a different important topic or drag one of the other staff members on.

Speaker A

I know Lindsay started watching, watching it so maybe Lynn wants to come on.

Speaker C

I think Lindsay's watching, I think Leighton's watching.

Speaker C

Maybe drag it on.

Speaker A

We can drag late and Lindsay on.

Speaker A

Yeah, about limited companies potentially.

Speaker A

So we'll do that.

Speaker A

But thank you guys for listening.

Speaker A

I hope you're following it on the podcast and we will be back next week and yeah, sorry for the.

Speaker A

Unfortunately not me, I'm not.

Speaker A

Got too much work to do.

Speaker A

And yeah, like hopefully we'll see a lot of you at the Expo.

Speaker A

It's gonna be a good weekend and we will catch up with everyone next week.

Speaker A

So thank you for asking me.

Speaker A

Bye bye.
