Foreign.
Speaker BAnd welcome to the Pat Accounting Podcast with me, your host, Vicky Clark.
Speaker BI'm going to help you get to grips with your finances, save you lots of money and take the stress out of doing your tax return.
Speaker BSo let's get going.
Speaker AOh, we're live.
Speaker AHello, everyone.
Speaker AWelcome back to our Lunchtime lives.
Speaker AIt used to be called Wine Down Wednesday, but we never have any wine, it's always at lunchtime.
Speaker ASo we're going to just call them Lunchtime Lives now.
Speaker AAnd apologies that we have not been on for a while, if you are new here and we've had quite a lot of people join the group and we haven't done a live probably for about six weeks and so apologies for that everybody.
Speaker AAnd the reason being I was on holiday and then Lee was on holiday and then we ended up taking on a few new staff and then I got Covid and probably still have it and it's just been a bit of a poo show.
Speaker ASo we do apologize for not being on here because I know people do enjoy our podcasts.
Speaker AAnd as you can see, Lee's not with me today.
Speaker AI've got the lovely Tegan because we're just slammed with self assessment.
Speaker ASo we've only got me today, which is fine.
Speaker AAnd today we are going to chat about tips for new businesses.
Speaker ABut before I get into that, I'm just going to give you guys some updates on what we've been up to and why.
Speaker AWe have been a little bit quiet on the old live front.
Speaker AThe first is, as some of you know and most of you know, the Pet Pro Expo is coming closer.
Speaker AWe are a month yesterday.
Speaker AFour weeks yesterday.
Speaker AIt's the 15th of November.
Speaker COh, yeah, yeah, it's four weeks Saturday.
Speaker AWell, yeah, whatever.
Speaker AHowever the days work, it's four weeks away anyway.
Speaker ASo if you haven't grabbed your ticket yet, we still have online tickets available because the event is getting live streamed on the day and so you will see what everyone else sees in the room.
Speaker ASo if you still wonder, I saw on the fence, grab a ticket before we close the doors on that, we have a couple of spaces left for in person because a couple of people have swapped it online.
Speaker ASo if you did want to come and venture in person, then please let us know.
Speaker AAnd because we've got a couple of seats left and then, yes, it'll be full.
Speaker ASo looking forward to that.
Speaker AWe've had all the goodie bags done, we've had lots of things sent, put in the goodie bags.
Speaker AWe've bought loads of extra bits.
Speaker AIt's all in full flow.
Speaker ASo if you are going, we will see you there on the Friday and Saturday and then we'll let you know how it's gone afterwards.
Speaker ABut I will be having a large trip once it's over because it's been very stressful to organize.
Speaker COh, it has been, yeah.
Speaker CBut it'll be worth it.
Speaker CI think it's worth mentioning as well that the tickets that are currently on sale are virtual on the day access only.
Speaker CSo it's 1312 speakers on the day.
Speaker CUm, the ones that were on sale before was the full access for online, so that was like for the seven online seminars and the on the day access and they were a bit more.
Speaker CBecause obviously you get more included.
Speaker CSo the ones that are available for you to be in the comp, your own home and still have access to the actual expo on the day on the 15th of November and they're just 99 pounds.
Speaker CIf you want to grab one of those, there's links all over social media to grab one of them.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd it's a business expense, so there you go.
Speaker CEven better.
Speaker ASo that's that.
Speaker CSee, Abby's watching, by the way, so I just want to say hi.
Speaker AHi, Abby.
Speaker CAnd I hope the doggies are all well.
Speaker ASo that's that.
Speaker AWe have some new staff to add into the mix.
Speaker ASo if you get a call from someone called Sophie, then she is our new admin apprentice alongside Emily and Nicola.
Speaker ASo she's going to be helping Emily, so be nice to her if she rings you because she's a little bit nervous, bless her.
Speaker ABit nervous to start, but yeah.
Speaker ASo if we get a call from Sophie, she is part of the pet accountant, so don't worry, she's not a scammer.
Speaker AWe've also taken on another accountant called sue and a couple of bookkeepers as well.
Speaker ASo we're getting fully stocked, ready for making Tax digital next year.
Speaker ASo that's kept us busy as well, getting them up to date with everything and obviously explain them what the pet accountant is because we're different to other accountants.
Speaker ASo even though they know how to do the accountancy side, they've got to learn about us and what we do and how our clients are like and what the clients are like.
Speaker ASo importantly, that's been full.
Speaker AI've been building two desks with Emily this morning.
Speaker AThat took us about four hours.
Speaker AFactor why it wasn't working.
Speaker AWe realized we had the wrong legs on the wrong table.
Speaker CThe people are watching.
Speaker ALuck is like so much.
Speaker AAlthough how many staff does it Take to build a desk, as it turns out.
Speaker ASo that's what we've been doing this morning.
Speaker AWe have also.
Speaker AHi.
Speaker CPerry.
Speaker CPerry's.
Speaker CBut good luck.
Speaker CNew people.
Speaker CI remember working for the team.
Speaker CIt was a good time.
Speaker AI. Oh, he was the best admin.
Speaker CPerry was there before I was there.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CDon told like an og.
Speaker AHe's an og.
Speaker AWe've also opened our books back up again for the 2425 tax return.
Speaker AWe only have a small availability so it is going to be on a first come, first serve basis.
Speaker ASo if you are needing your 2425 done and you haven't contacted us, now is the time.
Speaker AIf you have contacted us prior and we said our books list, we have reopened them and I will be able.
Speaker CTo talk to everybody.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ATegan has a girl that you'll speak to and once we're full, we're full again.
Speaker AThe doors will close again.
Speaker ASo it's only a small window and it will be a first come, first serve.
Speaker ABut we're open for now.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AAnd then we're loads.
Speaker CIf anyone does listen like that has been in touch and I have said we're putting you on the wait list.
Speaker COr maybe I went back to you to say that we did have a wait list.
Speaker CBooks are closed and I will be just getting back in touch just to let you know I've that have opened back up.
Speaker CSo.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd apologies.
Speaker AI'm a bit sniffly because I think I still have Covid.
Speaker AI have been a bit slow on.
Speaker CThe e. I laugh.
Speaker CIt's just because you've had the sniffles for three weeks.
Speaker CI shouldn't.
Speaker AI'm not laughing because I know I haven't been slow my emails and getting back to people but that's just because I'm not being very well.
Speaker ABut we power through and we're here.
Speaker ASo.
Speaker AOh, and then last update before we get into the fun stuff and our package, we've got a new offer in the package.
Speaker ASo I will let Tegan tell you what that is.
Speaker CWe have.
Speaker CSo I did a video on it yesterday which on the socials but it's an offer which is 50% off our all in one package for the first two months.
Speaker CSo it's amazing.
Speaker COffer me and you get it half price for the first two months all in one package.
Speaker CFor those of you that don't know, maybe a new listener, you've just not been familiar the package yet.
Speaker CIt's a comprehensive package that we offer at the Pet Accountant that covers you from all angles, whether you're a sole trader, partnership, limited company.
Speaker CYou can make the most of the package and it includes the accounts Xero software.
Speaker CSo if you're not on software yet and you want to get on software ready for making Tax Digital, you have an allocated bookkeeper who's going to do all the number work throughout the year and take that off your hands and you get unlimited bookkeeping.
Speaker CSo the package is really popular I think because you get that unlimited bookkeeping knowing that you've got that security, that as your business gets busier and you have more bookkeeping being carried out more we're not going to start building anymore for that and there's a lot of support included as well that we your bookkeeper.
Speaker CI say we, I'm not the bookkeepers.
Speaker CBut they will run reports and look at how your business is performing and feed that back to you in these amazing booklets.
Speaker CI wish I had one to show but they've got like pie charts and graphs that are going to break down how your business is doing, making sure you head in the right direction, let you know how much tax you should be saving and just help prepare you throughout the year.
Speaker CSo, so that's all included in the package.
Speaker CWe do base it on turnover and how many bank accounts are used to make it fair because we have brand new businesses joining the package all the time and then like, you know, well established businesses that are turnover above a million pounds.
Speaker CSo we, we have to make it fair in that sense and we have a calculator.
Speaker CIf you're thinking the package sounds amazing, get in touch, we'll talk through how it all works, give you the fees, but it is starting from, with the offer on from 61.50amonth.
Speaker CSo, so it is amazing package.
Speaker CYeah, is an absolute bargain.
Speaker CSo that's, that's that.
Speaker CBut if you're interested, just getting to.
Speaker CCan you put my email on Vic.
Speaker AJust if I know I will give it a whirl.
Speaker CJust messages on there.
Speaker COh, you've done it.
Speaker COr just messages or any socials.
Speaker CIf you listen to this on the.
Speaker APodcast Magic, there it is.
Speaker AIt is listeners Tegan T E G Y N at Culpio C U l p e o.co.uk oh yeah, thank you office.
Speaker AOr you can replace Tegan Vicky and you can get through to me.
Speaker ABut yes, if you are interested then give us a shout, especially if you are over the 50 grand turnover bracket because make and Tax Digital will apply to you next April.
Speaker AAnd if you are not on software then that is something you are really going to need to look into in the new year at the latest because you will have to comply with the MTD rules as of April, if your turnover, not your profit, if Your turnover is £50,000 or more, and that includes landlords or landlords.
Speaker ASo if you have a flat and you self employed, then you have to combine them and if you're over 50 grand, it will apply to you next April.
Speaker AAs we get more information on that, we will do another live dedicated to making tax digital.
Speaker AAt the minute there's nothing really much extra come out, but we will let you know as soon as we know.
Speaker AAnd clients will get an email because obviously if they want to take us up on that service to do their MTD submissions, then we will obviously be offering that to the clients as well.
Speaker AYes, get in touch if you're over 50 grand, especially because it will affect you and it is not optional, it is compulsory.
Speaker ASo we have to do it right now we've caught up and like I say, apologies again for being so crap and not doing one for ages.
Speaker ABut we are back and we'll be back now every week leading up to the Expo and maybe we'll do a live at the Expo, who knows?
Speaker ARight?
Speaker ASo I thought it would be really good to do a quick session for new businesses and sort of the do's and don'ts and the things that we see that people do and how they get mixed up and just give you guys some tips on how to get started.
Speaker AAnd a lot of these tips that we're going to give you are also in our Pet Business Basics course.
Speaker ASo if you are a new business and you haven't got a clue on what you're doing, then check that Pet Business Basics course out on our website.
Speaker AIt will be on there £49 as well and it covers and it has everything you're going to need to know in there from registering with HMRC to submitting your first tax return.
Speaker ASo just have a look at it if you are on your business.
Speaker ABut we're going to give you some tips now as well.
Speaker ASo the very first thing that you guys need to do and where people still get it wrong is when you register with HMRC as self employed.
Speaker ANow I do see a lot of time on the socials where people go, I'm new, I'm going to set up my dog walking business and how do I register with Companies House?
Speaker ACompanies House and HMRC are very, very different.
Speaker AYou register with Companies House if you're going to be a limited company and you register with hmrc.
Speaker AIf you're going to be a sole trader, self assigned assessment client, so you need to know the difference and you need to know which entity you want to trade as.
Speaker ATo start with.
Speaker AWe always say sole trader is the best way to go because it's the easiest one to do and it hasn't got as much hard stuff around it to get your head around it.
Speaker AJust simple, isn't it?
Speaker AYeah, it's simple.
Speaker CWhat tax return a year, One tax.
Speaker AReturn a year, register of HMRC once and then you're done.
Speaker AYou'll get your UTR number and off you go.
Speaker AIf you go down limited company route, it is a lot more complex and people can even set the limited company up wrong, which then causes a lot of hassle and a lot of money to fix.
Speaker ASo there are two very, very different routes and sometimes people get a bit confused with who they should be registering with.
Speaker ASo make sure if you've gone down the sole trader route that you register with hmrc.
Speaker AIf you're going down the limited company route, you will need to set the company up via Companies House.
Speaker ASo again, do your research.
Speaker AWe've got a podcast on somewhere we've done over the last six months about the differences between the sole trading and the.
Speaker ASo I'm not going to go into depth about that now, but go and check out the previous podcast with regards to that and it will go through the differences.
Speaker ABut 99 times out of 100 people will go down the sole trader week because it's a lot easier, a lot simpler and it's a lot cheaper.
Speaker CYeah, people ask me all the time on the inquiries which route to go down.
Speaker CWhat I always say is go soul trades.
Speaker AIt's nice and simple.
Speaker CLike you just deal with the hmrc, get your tax return done, but then if you, especially if you came as a client with us, our accountants would look each year at your business, at how it's performing and then have an accountant advise you on whether it's going to be beneficial.
Speaker CYou become limited company because you see all the time that people set up as a limited company at the forefront and then actually end up costing themselves more money.
Speaker CSo it's easy.
Speaker AA lot of, a lot of accountants, if you go to them and say, I want to be a limit company, we'll just say yes, okay.
Speaker ABecause the limited company fees are four or five times more than the sole trade of these.
Speaker ASo ours, our sole trader fee is £27 plus a month and then our limited company can start from like 100 to 300 pounds a month, depending on your turnover.
Speaker ABut there is a massive, massive difference in price.
Speaker AAnd some accountants I hate to sit out there, are greedy.
Speaker AAnd if you go to them and say, right, I'm Receptor Limit company, they'll go yet, no problem, and they'll set you up and then they'll charge you a fortune.
Speaker AAnd that is why we get a lot of limited companies coming to us, that after they've had a chat with Lindsay, they then decide, actually, I'm more better off being a sole trader, and they shut that limited company down and they go back.
Speaker CDon't encounter limited accountant.
Speaker AYeah, don't panic.
Speaker AIf you listen to this thinking, I've registered this company's house and I shouldn't have, you can close them down, you can swap midway through, it's not the end of the world, it can be fixed.
Speaker ASo if you are sitting there thinking, bugger, I've done the wrong one, then don't panic, it can be fixed, but just do your research before you register with the interval to make sure that you register with the right one.
Speaker AMy second thing, once you've registered, are you going to say.
Speaker ASo you're going to.
Speaker CI was going to say, you're going to say, how to register.
Speaker CIf somebody's listening, thinking, how to do it either online or ring up?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo you can ring up if you've got spare five hours to wait on the phone and.
Speaker AOr you can do it online and you can register online.
Speaker AWe can do it.
Speaker AIf you're wanting to become a client, we can register for you, but just do it online because it's easier, it's quicker, and if you ring up, you will be on hold for about five hours.
Speaker ASo online is always the best way to do it.
Speaker AAnd if you want to set up with a limited company, I would get the help of an accountant because there's shares and all sorts you need to sort of factor in.
Speaker ASo get professional help with that one.
Speaker AOnce you've done all that, the next thing would be, right, how am I going to record what I do?
Speaker AHow am I going to record my income?
Speaker AHow am I going to record my expenses?
Speaker ABecause Tegan didn't do it the right way when she started digitigan.
Speaker AThanks.
Speaker CDobbing me in.
Speaker CNo, I didn't get a separate bank account.
Speaker CWell, the thing is, as a sole trade, you don't legally have to have a separate bank account, but it is recommended and it is more efficient doing it that way because you're going to look at that separate bank account, knowing what's coming out is purely business related, especially if it all going digital then connecting that to accounting software, it's just the best way rather than using your personal life like I did for my dog grooming and then I was having to fill in my spreadsheets but print out my bank statements sitting there highlighting everything and it's just so much more time consuming.
Speaker CSo yeah, it's really like if you're a sole trader it's just understanding your like tax year.
Speaker CLike you've got to keep on top of your records from 6th April to 5th April the following year.
Speaker CKeep on top of all the income, all the expenditure and how you're going to record it.
Speaker CThis is obviously why I do like talk people through this on our initial phone calls and that could be on a spreadsheet if people have got a few years before it becomes MTD compliant for them with their turnover level being a bit lower.
Speaker CBut still a lot of people choose to go on accounting software because there's lots of perks and it is very much malficient.
Speaker AYeah, it's.
Speaker AI know people are worried about technology and I'm the first person because I'm a technophobe.
Speaker CWe're all technophobes compared to Lee.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AThe software makes it so much easier because it connects to your bank and then you've just got to go in and label everything.
Speaker CYeah, just mirror the bank account.
Speaker CSo.
Speaker AYeah, bank account.
Speaker ASo if you've got a separate bank account, anything that goes in and out is on there and you just got to go in and label it.
Speaker AEither sales or whatever the expense is.
Speaker AThe most popular ones that we see are Free Agent Zero.
Speaker AThey're the two that we use and Dext.
Speaker ADext is like really, really basic free agents sort of in the middle.
Speaker AAnd then Xero is probably.
Speaker CWe do an episode on this the other week, didn't we, about the different softwares.
Speaker AGo and check that out because we're not going to go through all of them.
Speaker ABut my favorite is Free agent.
Speaker ALeast favorite Zero.
Speaker AFor a small business I would lean more towards free agent because it's easier to use, it's more user friendly and we've seen how they're doing the MTD side of it as well.
Speaker AAnd again that is pretty user friendly as well.
Speaker ASo that would be my recommendation for anyone just starting out and they need software.
Speaker AYou put me off.
Speaker CSorry, sorry.
Speaker CI was going to say we can.
Speaker AGet discounted free agent subscriptions as well and get discounted.
Speaker AI did tell her about this before.
Speaker AI'm in flow.
Speaker ADon't interrupt because I'll lose it.
Speaker AAnd I thought I was even going to say.
Speaker ASo that that's the end, that conversation.
Speaker ASo, yes, get free agents if you are a new business, because it is user friendly and we do have a course.
Speaker AWell, it's not a really course, it's a guide, a free agent guide with loads of videos with me and Lee basically telling you in really simple terms how to do things.
Speaker ASo it's like, click here, click this, click this, put that figure in there.
Speaker AThere's no, like accountancy jargon behind it.
Speaker AIt's just literally, click this button, click this button, click this button.
Speaker ABecause obviously they're more common things that we find that people do wrong in the software.
Speaker ASo we thought we'd put something together to stop you doing it and then you can do your bookkeeping and you don't necessarily have to pay for an accountant.
Speaker ASo win, win.
Speaker CThat's £40 to buy on our website.
Speaker A£40.
Speaker AThere we go.
Speaker AAnd I think that is in the store section and I'm sure I have a little thing for that.
Speaker AYes, I do.
Speaker CYeah, that pet business basics and use free agent like a pro.
Speaker CTutorials are both in the store.
Speaker ATutorial, that's the word I was looking for, tutorial.
Speaker ASo you've registered with HMRC as a sole trader, then you've got your free agent software, you've got your separate bank account, as Tegan says, and you link those two together and then you are good to go.
Speaker CKeep on top of it regularly.
Speaker AKeep on top of it regularly.
Speaker AAnd don't do what Tegan did and wait till January to fill up spreadsheet.
Speaker CDon't you do anything that I did.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ADon't put drawings as an expense.
Speaker COh, I talk experience, though.
Speaker CI can tell people what not to do.
Speaker AYeah, don't put drawings as an expense because it's not.
Speaker AI've got really take up your time, Come on up.
Speaker AAnd it's a good job that she met an accountant to get her books right in the end.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ABut there we go.
Speaker ASo you've got all that.
Speaker AYou just need to keep on top of it, where they do every week, every month.
Speaker AJust keep on top of it and you know, look at, you know, because you're probably going to have to think about your pricing and things.
Speaker AYou need to look at what money you need to earn.
Speaker AAnd this is where an accountant can help as well, because a lot of people just copy other people's prices or there's no real structure to it.
Speaker ASo please Please, please look at your figures, look at what you need to earn, look what your expenses are and then think, right, if all my expenses every month of this and I need to make X, how do I need to then work my pricing out?
Speaker ASo do it methodically and get some help if you're unsure because the software as well will be able to help you manage that and see where cash flow on things.
Speaker ASo that is another positive point with the software.
Speaker AGo for it.
Speaker CThank you.
Speaker CWe also have the pricing tax calculator for those that might not be able to afford a bookkeeper but want to be able to like put in their desired income of what they want to earn with all of like their expenses and income and it calculates like tax within that as well and it will tell you how much you should be charging per hour per dog to generate that desired income and how much tax you should be saving.
Speaker CSo that's a really good tool that's on our store, storefront and that's only 24.95 to buy and then you can just reuse each year.
Speaker CBut like Vic was saying, bookkeepers as well, doing your bookkeeping like they're, they're dealing with present figures so they can look at your business in this moment in time and have that person to chat like with to talk about what you can afford to do.
Speaker CI'm a price myself, right.
Speaker CSo our package and we have the 50 off for the first two months is really good for people that want more support to help make sure that, that they're prizing themselves right from the beginning.
Speaker CAnd honestly I think we've had more brand new businesses on the package in the last, I'd say three to six units and we did last year.
Speaker CIt's just people know they've got to get on software in the future.
Speaker CSo a lot of people are saying to me, as new businesses, why get onto a spreadsheet now, getting to a routine of them spreadsheet, when I'm going to have to change on software in a year or two anyway.
Speaker CAnd like we were saying, spreadsheets can be pretty time consuming, you having to write down the whole transactions.
Speaker CBut you know, software's a lot more quicker and efficient state if you've got a bookkeeper doing it.
Speaker CSome people say to me, Tegan, I just can't be asked, I just want to hand it all over and you just do it all and then you can focus on your business, the advertising, the social media, getting the clients in and have somebody just doing all the.
Speaker ANumber work for you and Also, if hmrc, if you won't get audited by hmrc and we are seeing a lot more people getting auditors.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AIt's a lot easier to show them things if you're on software, because everything will be on that software than it is when you're on a spreadsheet and you haven't to hunt around for everything.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo it does make it easier on that score as well.
Speaker AAnd, you know, some people we speak to are quite number savvy and they can do, you know, they can do their own self assessment or they can do their own bookkeeping, but if you are not one of those people and you dread the thought of doing every month, or you just have got a clue what is allowable, what isn't, then please invest in an accountant.
Speaker AAn accountant is one of the most important people in your business life.
Speaker AIf you are not savvy when it comes to the finance side of things, and there's no shame in that, you know, this is what we're, this is what we're here for, is to help you.
Speaker ASo you need to make sure that you have a good accountant in your corner.
Speaker AWhether that is us, whether that is someone else, it's absolutely fine.
Speaker ABut please, please, please, if you're going to invest in anything, invest in a good accountant because they can help you with everything, your pricing, you know, your cash flow, looking at, you know, everything that's going in and out, look at what you can afford, you know, they can put a plan together for you, so it's well worth the money.
Speaker ANow, what I would say, and I've covered this before as well, is do your due diligence when you're looking into accountants.
Speaker AI know some people prefer a local one that they can go and walk to, and we cover the whole of the uk, but we get that some people like to physically see their accountant every day or however long.
Speaker AJust please check into them.
Speaker ABecause we've had so many clients come who've had rogue accountants and they've not checked whether they're licensed, whether they can actually do the job, their background, you know, they've just not asked the questions and they're getting charged thousands of pounds for something that they shouldn't.
Speaker AIt could be costing them £27.
Speaker ASo just please, please, please look into who you're giving your figures and your money to, like you would anything else.
Speaker ABecause unfortunately, accountancy isn't a regulated sector and Tegan could decide to call herself an accountant tomorrow and you'd be none the wiser.
Speaker CHe wants me to know accountant that.
Speaker AShe'S terrible at bookkeeping.
Speaker ASo.
Speaker ASo you've got to check these things.
Speaker CI think as well like we do have people that say they want a local account and I get that people like that face to face communication.
Speaker CWe do offer teams and zooms if clients I think which is even better.
Speaker ABecause you can do it in your pajamas.
Speaker CYeah, exactly.
Speaker CI've had like discovery calls with people that have gone look I want to become a client but I don't really like phone calls and emails.
Speaker CCan we communicate face to face on the teams?
Speaker CAnd I've done that a few times and that's absolutely fine.
Speaker CPeople like to see people's faces who they're talking to But I always think that having an accountant that understands your industry and your business is better than having a local accountant who's never worked with a dog walker, dog trained or groomer ever before.
Speaker CLike so you know my background being grooming I ran my own dog grooming business business.
Speaker CBryony sat next to me, he's ran her own dog walking business and it really is important because jonapple onto the camera.
Speaker CHello me Briany have got some videos.
Speaker AComing up talking about you social media.
Speaker ASo Brian and Keegan work together on the sales and the social media and the Tick tock.
Speaker AWe haven't checked out the pet account and tick tock.
Speaker AYeah but these two because there was endless amounts of funny videos on there.
Speaker ASome with me in but mostly with everybody else me all on the floor.
Speaker CYeah, Te Fly brought that up today.
Speaker ASo please check out the pet on Tik Tok and give it a follow cuz they love it.
Speaker CYeah but what I was saying is that understanding the business is crucial because like the pet account we know what you can claim for whereas maybe a local accountant generic account and won't be able to make the most of them like tax deductible expenses that are going to lower your tax bill down but also I think with us like we speak your language.
Speaker CI can.
Speaker CI was talking to a client today that wants to come onto the package.
Speaker CWe're having like a half an hour chat, having a laugh, talk about dog grooming.
Speaker CSeeing you know I haven't spoke to in a good few months and it was just lovely to have a catch up but like I'll speak to so many people that come from generic local accountants and they always say I don't really get what they're talking about, I don't get the language, I don't get the terminology.
Speaker CThey don't really understand what I Do I feel a bit like, you know, not very confident talking to them.
Speaker CBut with us, I think we are just like normal people that.
Speaker ATo have a giggle, like to have.
Speaker CA laugh, take your account seriously.
Speaker CI always say don't take life serious seriously at all.
Speaker CBut I think that's what people like as well.
Speaker CSo one thing that's really important, I did a video on this not long ago, was you need to be able to feel like you can talk to your accountant or your bookkeeper.
Speaker CAnd if you're with an accountant or bookkeeper currently listening to this, they're not the bookkeeper and accountant for you.
Speaker CIf you feel like you can't talk to them, it's as simple as that.
Speaker AThey need to be your best friend at the end of the day and, you know, you need to be able to just ring them up and go, right, how?
Speaker AI can't speak to Vicky, Can I speak to Keegan or whoever and not feel that dread or pit in your stomach of, oh, my God, like, I don't know what to ask.
Speaker AI'm going to feel stupid, they're going to laugh, whatever.
Speaker ALike, you'll not get that with us.
Speaker AWe are very, very chill and everyone here is the same, you know, when we hire people, we do, you know, hire people based on their personality as well.
Speaker AThey've got to, they've got to fit what we are and what we give to people.
Speaker ASo it is very, very important to us who we get on board and this love company that we have.
Speaker AI don't know what to say there.
Speaker AI just made that up.
Speaker CThat was fine.
Speaker CBut also, like, I know we're doing this, this episode for, like, more new businesses.
Speaker CWhether you're a new business or a bit more established in anything we've said, like, resonates with you.
Speaker CLike, I've been that person in your shoes that didn't know what to do and thought I could do it on myself.
Speaker CFound it very overwhelming, didn't know if I was doing it right.
Speaker CAnd like, I think knowing that I've been in your shoes and I'm the person that you speak to the forefront that can talk you for everything you should be doing, talk you through how we can help and the different options.
Speaker CIf you are interested in just having a chat, like, it's a, it's a free discovery call, phone call on teams, we can have a chat.
Speaker CAnd a chat never hurts anyone, does it?
Speaker CAnd see where you want to go from there.
Speaker AAnd also another tip for new businesses, don't always believe what you read on social media, because there's a lot of people there that seek for things that you can't and you will fall foul of it.
Speaker AAlways.
Speaker AAlways.
Speaker AIf you're unsure, check with a professional.
Speaker AAnd if someone is saying that you can claim online, ask for a link to wherever they found that information to prove to you that it is a legitimate expense.
Speaker ABecause we see it so often, all the different Facebook groups where people are saying, oh, yeah, you can claim for chiropractors and massages and this and that, and you can't.
Speaker AAnd, you know, if HMRC come knocking, it's not something that you want to happen.
Speaker AAnd they will then delve into every other tax return you've ever done.
Speaker ASo just please, you know, speak to a professional if you're not sure, don't listen to everybody on social media.
Speaker AThat's why we created this group.
Speaker ASo when people ask questions, we make sure that the answers that everyone's given are correct and you're not getting misleading information, monitored information.
Speaker AThat was the whole reason I started this group years ago, was because I was sick of seeing people put the wrong information and then people going away with that wrong information.
Speaker ASo that is what this group is for, is to educate and help people when it comes to the finance side and the tax side and make sure that we do it right.
Speaker ASo another tip would be to join Bridget Group and then you can look back, you could type anything in the search option, van, car, how to claim for that.
Speaker AYou know, is this allowable?
Speaker AIs that allowable?
Speaker AIt's probably been asked in the group and answered by one of the team.
Speaker ASo please use that as a, as a library resource when you come to do your tax return.
Speaker AIf it hasn't, ask it.
Speaker CYou can ask it.
Speaker AYeah, you can do it anonymously, that's fine.
Speaker AWe always check them and if anyone else has answered it and that's correct, then we'll just like it.
Speaker AAnd then if anyone puts the wrong answer in, we'll either remove it or we'll just say, no, that's incorrect.
Speaker AAnd this is why.
Speaker ASo you can be rest assured that the group is a good resource to have follow the podcast because we will do weekly podcasts on that.
Speaker AMoving forward, just had a little slight break, but now we're back.
Speaker AAnd if you haven't got a ticket to the Expo, then please grab one because it is going to be a very, very good day and we are covering a lot of topics with a lot of very, very good people.
Speaker APlease, if you are free on the 15th of November, even if you want to watch it from home.
Speaker ALike I said, it's gonna be live streamed.
Speaker ASo you're not going to be just watching the recording after it's done.
Speaker AYou'll be watching it as it happens on the day and you'll see how stressed I will be on that day.
Speaker AIt was Mabel Perry who did that.
Speaker AThe background always the same.
Speaker AWhenever I come on live, they're quiet.
Speaker AAnd then soon as we come on alive, they bark.
Speaker AThey're being good.
Speaker ATo be fair, they have been good.
Speaker AThe ponies waiting lunchtime.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AThe saints lunchtime.
Speaker ASo just a few little tips there.
Speaker ALike I said, if you want to go into a lot of depth, if you're a new business, then please check out the Pet Business Basics course because it does cover everything in a lot of detail including VAT and things like that.
Speaker ASo and marketing and social media.
Speaker AEverything.
Speaker AEverything you're going to need is in that course.
Speaker AIt's only 49 quid, it's liable expense.
Speaker ASo if you want us to listen to me and me go into more detail on those, then please go and grab that course course because it will help you and it does get updated when things change.
Speaker AObviously with a budget coming up.
Speaker AAgain, we will cover that as well when it happens.
Speaker AAnd again, like I said to you, if there's any topics that you want us to cover then please let me know and we can go through it.
Speaker AAnd yeah, next week hopefully it will be myself and Lee will show his face and we'll go through a different important topic or drag one of the other staff members on.
Speaker AI know Lindsay started watching, watching it so maybe Lynn wants to come on.
Speaker CI think Lindsay's watching, I think Leighton's watching.
Speaker CMaybe drag it on.
Speaker AWe can drag late and Lindsay on.
Speaker AYeah, about limited companies potentially.
Speaker ASo we'll do that.
Speaker ABut thank you guys for listening.
Speaker AI hope you're following it on the podcast and we will be back next week and yeah, sorry for the.
Speaker AUnfortunately not me, I'm not.
Speaker AGot too much work to do.
Speaker AAnd yeah, like hopefully we'll see a lot of you at the Expo.
Speaker AIt's gonna be a good weekend and we will catch up with everyone next week.
Speaker ASo thank you for asking me.
Speaker ABye bye.
