Hey, one more thing before you go.
MichaelBefore we get started on today's episode, we would like to say that our hearts, thoughts and prayers are out to everyone affected by the fires in Southern California, both family and friends, as well as those.
MichaelSo many people who are losing everything that they've got.
MichaelThis absolute catastrophic event is unimaginable.
MichaelAnd everyone that has been affected in one form or another, those who lost everything, our first responders, our firefighters, our police officers, our EMTs on the, on the front lines, and the volunteers on the back end, our hearts go out to you.
MichaelOur thoughts, our prayers go out to you.
MichaelPlease stay safe 100%.
DianeDon't make me cry.
DianeI'm gonna wake mess up my makeup.
DianeThe.
DianeWith all this stuff going on in the world, you know, this kind of seems, I don't know, shallow maybe to do something to talk about a TV show.
DianeBut, you know, I think, I think we all use TV and movies and entertainment to escape what's happening.
DianeAnd I think that especially with the fires and other things going on in the world right now, we're just here to talk about it, some, something that's enjoyable for an hour and can help you feel better for just a short time.
DianeSo that's why we're still doing this.
MichaelI agree.
MichaelSo with that in mind, what do you get, Diane, when you have a quirky, cute cleaning lady with a photographic memory and OCD to make sure everything is in order and right where it's supposed to be?
MichaelYou kind of used to that with me, right?
MichaelJust a little.
DianeOn some things.
DianeNot everything.
MichaelNot everything.
DianeNot everything.
MichaelAnd what happens when you join that with a team of detectives solving murders?
MichaelWell, in this episode, we're going to answer some of those questions and more.
MichaelWe're diving into one of our favorite television shows, our new favorite television shows.
MichaelHigh potential, captivating television show that's been making waves.
MichaelI'm Michael Hurst.
MichaelI am joined by my wonderful wife and co host, Diane.
DianeHello, everyone.
MichaelWelcome to one more thing before we go over the Teacup Sunday.
MichaelHi, Diane.
DianeHi, Michael.
MichaelWell, that was a, that was a rough start to the show.
MichaelWe haven't had that in a really long time.
MichaelBut yeah, with what's going on in the world and going on locally, we have family and friends in the California area, a lot of friends, a lot of.
MichaelAnd we just, we understand.
MichaelAnd our empathy has just kind of overworked itself lately and it's just almost overwhelming.
DianeWe're grateful that we don't have.
DianeWe don't.
DianeThat we know of right now.
DianeAnyone who's been personally affected.
DianeI know I have a friend that was on standby to evacuate.
DianeLuckily, thank God, thankfully, our daughter and son in law have not been put on even standby.
DianeThey're farther away from the fire.
MichaelThe smoke and the ashes.
DianeYes, yes, they're getting the smoke and the ash, but they, they are safe.
DianeSo, I mean, thank God for that.
DianeBut we've just been watching so much coverage of it and you know, we, where we recognize, you know, some of the places that they talked about and it's, it's, it's unbelievable and it's, it's hard to even imagine what they're going through.
MichaelWell, I do have some entertainment friends that I still associate with that from the cuff, from my conferences and from the film festivals and things like that that have been affected by it and have had to evacuate.
MichaelAnd you know, some of them, I don't know whether they've lost anything, but I know that they were evacuated and had to leave the areas.
DianeI didn't know that.
MichaelAgain, we just want to emphasize how much our hearts and our prayers, our thoughts and our prayers are out with everybody that's been affected and unfortunately will continue to be affected throughout this catastrophic event.
MichaelBut now let's try to lighten the day a little bit.
MichaelAnd I am really excited about talking about this show.
MichaelLike I said earlier, it's one of our favorite new shows.
MichaelWe know the, the, the characters, the, the main characters, all the main characters actually, we've seen on other things.
MichaelThey've always been a favorite of ours, especially Caitlyn Olsen.
MichaelYeah, yeah.
MichaelIt's pretty cool, huh?
DianeYeah, I love it, I love it.
DianeIt's a comedy.
DianeI mean, I would say it's a comedy, but it also has some real touching moments in it too.
MichaelYeah, it really does.
MichaelAnd you know, it caught on really quickly.
MichaelAnd you know, it's interesting because ABC launched this, you know, opposite Elsbeth, and there's some similarities between that and CBS's Elsbeth.
MichaelBut I think that having the approach that ABC is doing with high potential in the way that they're doing it, I think is better, in my opinion.
MichaelIt's a little bit coming from an individual.
MichaelI mean, you watched Monk with me, didn't you?
MichaelYeah, we love Monk.
MichaelSo it's, you know, you have the OCD of Monk in a certain way, but then you've got touches of other programs that we have watched where you get the photographic memory and you get the, oh, I can piece that together.
MichaelNo, that doesn't belong there this belongs there.
MichaelAnd, you know, Psych was doing it.
MichaelYou know, Psych and Psych, they'd go.
MichaelYou know, he'd see these things and they'd flash back and he'd piece them together.
MichaelBut, you know, he was Potential, was portraying a psychic, but in reality was using his photographic memory in regard to.
DianeHelping to solve a crime and sort of.
DianeWhat was that show?
DianeElementary, or is that still on?
MichaelYeah, yeah, elementary.
MichaelYeah.
MichaelWith.
MichaelSo it reminds me a lot, like you said, that you set up elementary.
MichaelElementary starred Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, and it was kind of a Sherlock Holmes type thing where he was solving cases like that.
MichaelAnd it was the same.
MichaelSame principle.
DianeIt's kind of a mixture.
MichaelYeah, but.
MichaelBut it brings a nice, I think, to this.
MichaelAnd especially Caitlin Olson.
MichaelThe last thing that we actually saw.
MichaelI know she was in sunny Philadelphia.
MichaelAlways Sunny in Philadelphia.
MichaelBut we only didn't.
DianeWe only saw a few episodes of.
DianeActually we need to go back and watch it.
MichaelWe do, but we also.
MichaelIn the Mick.
DianeThe Mick.
MichaelWe loved her in the Mick.
MichaelIt was.
MichaelIt was like, fantastic.
MichaelSo it was nice to see her come into something.
MichaelAnd she's married to a comedian who's.
DianeWho is also in sunny Philadelphia.
MichaelYes.
DianeAnd they just did a crossover, actually, of the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia cast along with Abbott Elementary.
DianeThey just did a crossover, which we didn't see, but I know they were.
DianeThey did it.
DianeAnd he also is a co owner of the English soccer team, and I don't remember which one, with Ryan Reynolds.
MichaelAnd his name is Wexum.
DianeYeah.
MichaelWelcome to Wexum is the show that they've got.
MichaelThey've got a show, basically, them acquiring the team itself and then how they evolved it and how they took it to a championship.
DianeAnd this whole time we're talking like this, we're trying to remember his name.
MichaelThat's okay.
DianeYeah, I can see him.
DianeEverybody knows what we're talking about.
MichaelEverybody knows what we're talking about.
MichaelAnd today we're talking about high potential.
MichaelSo should I tell everybody about high potential?
DianeYes.
MichaelThis show, High potential, premiered on September 17, 2024.
MichaelIt's aired about eight episodes so far.
MichaelIt follows the story of Morgan, a single mom of three whose exceptional mind helps her solve crimes while working as a cleaner for the police department.
MichaelIt's a compelling blend of mystery, drama, a touch of humor.
MichaelThis amazing favorite stars Kaitlin Olson, Daniel Sunjada, who, I will remind everybody here in a few minutes where we know him from.
MichaelJavica.
MichaelIs it Java or Havoca.
MichaelHow do you pronounce her name?
MichaelJ A, V, I, C, I, A.
MichaelHavoca.
DianeI don't, I don't know.
MichaelHavoca.
MichaelLeslie.
MichaelWe'll try that.
MichaelAnd Matthew Lamb.
MichaelEach brings their.
MichaelSorry, that's not right.
MichaelEach brings their own unique flair to their drolls, making the characters truly unforgettable.
MichaelI think what sets high potential parts is, is the unique premise.
MichaelMorgan's unorthodox method of rearranging evidence while cleaning brings a fresh kind of a refreshing twist to the crime solving genre.
MichaelAs we talked about, it's not about just solving mysteries.
MichaelIt's also about the resilience and ingenuity of everyday characters, which, which, I mean, I.
MichaelComing as a cop, I would love to have had somebody like her.
DianeRight.
MichaelAvailable to me.
DianeBut of course there's always got to be, you know, at least one that's resentful and doesn't like her and he hasn't really been in the last couple episodes, so.
DianeInteresting.
DianeBut yeah, she's not a, she's not the cleaning lady for long.
DianeWe'll just put that, put it that way in case you haven't seen it.
MichaelBut if you, yeah, if you have seen it, obviously you know the, you know where it has evolved into.
MichaelBut you know, the cast characters have great chemistry.
MichaelI think that the, the, the availability of what they've been able to create, it makes it a very compelling show to watch.
MichaelI think, you know, you, you get to try to figure out, you know, you and I do this all the time and I've, I've trained you.
MichaelYou've.
MichaelYou're no longer a rookie.
DianeYeah, I've, I've learned a lot about figuring out who did what in the shows.
MichaelIt's pretty, it's.
MichaelYes, it's.
DianeSometimes I even figure it out before you.
MichaelSometimes you do.
MichaelThere has been occasion that you have.
DianeNever used to happen.
MichaelBut, but we like watching the kind of shows that we can figure things out without being so apparent, you know, because sometimes they just, it's like, oh, that's just too apparent, that's too easy.
MichaelYou know, we like being able to kind of go along with the show and watch what's happening as it's happening and figure it out, you know, kind of a thing.
MichaelSo, you know, from this approach, I think that they do a really good job with doing that.
DianeYeah, it's.
DianeI, I love.
DianeIt's so funny because you can see her mind.
DianeYou can see the, you can see the wheels turning, you know, when she's looking and even they.
DianeThey say it too, like, oh, she's getting that look.
DianeBut I, I've noticed that this show.
DianeI immediately liked the cast as a cast where some shows, you're kind of like, I don't know that they're really melding all that well.
DianeI'm not sure this.
DianeThis one should be there.
DianeYou know, what is this character there that all of them are there for a purpose.
MichaelAnd it makes a lot of sense.
MichaelYeah, it's cool.
MichaelIt's pretty.
MichaelI think that even in the respect that the, the police department itself, you know, it.
MichaelIt's.
MichaelIt's.
MichaelIt is a homicide unit.
MichaelSo, you know, there's something there that kind of allows her just to work with that group within itself.
MichaelSo I think building the chemistry between all of them is.
MichaelIs really good.
MichaelCaitlin Olson again, you know, she was Dee Reynolds and Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which I, you know, I think I watched more of Always Sunny in Philadelphia a little bit more than you did, because probably I think Nicole was.
MichaelStill.
MichaelWas with us for a little while while that was playing, and she really loved it.
MichaelSo I think I watched the first season of Always Sunny Philadelphia, but, you know, still a great.
MichaelShe's a great.
MichaelAnd she's a great actor.
MichaelShe's a great comedian.
MichaelShe's written out for her role again in that.
MichaelHer comedic timing, ability to balance humor with emotional depth shine through in that series.
MichaelMacKenzie, Mickey Malone in the Mick, which, you know, that Mick is kind of a wild, brash woman who becomes the guardian of her sister's spoiled children.
MichaelI think she works.
MichaelShe works well in this because she's got kids.
MichaelIn.
MichaelIn.
MichaelYou see the.
MichaelYou.
MichaelYou see what she brings kind of forward with that as well, because she.
MichaelI think she brings a little bit of that character with her to this, I think.
DianeSo you can.
DianeYou can see pieces of that, for sure.
DianeGlimpses, at least.
DianeYeah.
DianeAnd you know her, the character.
DianeWe have to mention him, the, the baby daddy character because I don't think they ever married in the.
DianeYou know, the character's never married.
DianeHe is.
DianeHe's been all over the place for a long time, too.
DianeAnd he was in a show I really liked, Single Parents.
DianeIt was on a few years ago.
MichaelAnd.
DianeI'm sorry.
DianeBlanking on his name again.
DianeI'm blanking on names today.
DianeEvery day.
MichaelIt was a rough start this morning.
MichaelAnd I don't.
MichaelI don't remember if he was on snl.
DianeI don't think he was.
DianeNo, I don't think he was or something that he's married To Colby Smulders, who was in Everything, and we love her, too.
DianeAnd I can't remember his name.
DianeAnyway, look up Colby Smers.
DianeThat's her husband, and he's in the show, too, and he's not in it enough.
DianeThat's what I'm trying to get to.
DianeHe is not in this enough.
DianeHe deserves a bigger role.
DianeHe is awesome.
MichaelI believe it.
DianeAnd I'm.
DianeEven though I can't remember his name.
DianeHe's awful.
DianeYeah.
MichaelDaniel Sundiata.
MichaelHe was Frank Rivera in Rescue Me.
MichaelHe's perhaps known for his best role as Franco Rivera.
MichaelHe was a firefighter in that acclaimed TV series, Paul Briggs.
MichaelIn Graceland, he played an undercover FBI agent living in a house with other agents from various federal agencies.
MichaelI watched that for a little while, and as far as recognizing from there, it was pretty good.
MichaelHe also was James Holton, the Devil Wears Prada played a fashion designer in this popular film with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.
MichaelAnd he played Reggie Jackson in the Bronx Is Burning.
MichaelHe also portrayed the legendary baseball player in a miniseries.
MichaelYou know, he.
MichaelI've seen him some other things as well, so, I mean, we recognize him.
MichaelYou'll recognize him.
MichaelBut the chemistry between him and Kaitlin Olson, is it.
MichaelIt.
MichaelIt's good.
MichaelI think their chemistry works really well, you know?
DianeYeah, they're great.
MichaelAnd then I wish I could pronounce her name correctly.
MichaelI probably should do this better.
MichaelMaybe go find something to.
MichaelGo figure out how to pronounce some people's names.
MichaelHavoc.
MichaelLeslie.
MichaelShe was Ryan Wilder in Batwoman.
MichaelShe made handling has been taken over the title role in the CW series, becoming the first black actress to play Batwoman.
MichaelAlly Finer in God Befriended Me.
MichaelAmber.
MichaelShe was the sister of the main character.
DianeAnd shown the bar.
MichaelYeah, shown the bar.
MichaelThe wine bar, which is another series.
MichaelI wish CBS would not have canceled.
MichaelWhole other conversation, but we've talked about God, Godfriend.
MichaelGodfriended me in many other episodes that we've talked about it, but we know her from there, mostly from there.
MichaelParis Hilton.
MichaelExcuse me.
MichaelParis Duncan in Family Business, A member of a powerful family.
MichaelIt's a BET drama, and I think that the show has the power to inspire, motivate you.
MichaelIt's a reminder that everyone has untapped potential.
MichaelAnd sometimes the most unlikely heroes shine the brightest.
MichaelI think the combination of them all is.
MichaelAnd the cases that they're presenting aren't really far fetched.
MichaelI mean, that's one thing I like about it, is the Cases are something reasonable.
DianeYeah, you can believe it.
DianeYou can believe that they've happened and.
MichaelThe outcomes and the investigation unfolding, the way it unfolds, it makes sense.
MichaelIt's not the thing where you just throw something together.
MichaelA lot of times you get a homicide on TV and then you have the typical.
MichaelYou show up and there's crime tape everywhere and there's cops everywhere.
MichaelThe detectives go in and they check the post, how long has he been dead?
MichaelAnd we have any suspects.
MichaelAnd then it kind of goes on, you know.
MichaelBut this, I think, intrigues me.
MichaelFrom my perspective as an investigator and a cop in the past, I think that what it does for me is it kind of goes, oh, now you.
MichaelYou're really having to analyze, and you're having to really go into this in depth, and you have to really, you know, pick this stuff out.
MichaelAnd.
MichaelAnd to me, I appreciate that.
DianeThat's.
DianeIt.
DianeJust.
DianeShe's really thinking things through.
DianeAnd.
DianeAnd some of the ways she comes up with the stuff.
DianeAt first when she's talking about it, like, what?
DianeNo way.
DianeBut then she's.
DianeShe.
DianeShe lays it out and why.
DianeAnd it's like, oh, yeah, that does make sense.
DianeSo, I don't know.
DianeIt's.
DianeIt's.
DianeIt's funny.
DianeIt's.
DianeIt's touching.
DianeIt's, you know, when she's dealing with her kids and all this other.
DianeOther stuff, and it.
DianeThere's.
DianeThere's some.
DianeIt's not just one.
DianeIt's not just about what happened, you know, the murder or the.
DianeWhatever's happened that they're investigating.
DianeIt's not just about that.
DianeThere's other layers to the story that are happening throughout the series.
MichaelWell, I'm gonna give away.
MichaelI'm gonna give away just a little bit because I'm hoping everybody has already seen this.
MichaelAnd if you haven't seen it, I'm gonna give away just a little bit just because.
DianeSpoiler alert.
MichaelExactly.
MichaelSpoiler alert.
MichaelSpoiler alert.
MichaelSo this show, if you haven't seen it, this show opens as one of my favorite openings in so many other shows.
MichaelIt has a clean lady come into this detective's office, the department agency's office, which I did have some questions as to why it was shut down, because typically it's supposed to work 24 hours a day.
DianeOh, yeah, yeah.
DianeYou were saying that.
DianeThat is the one thing that happened.
DianeYou were like, wait a minute, where are all the cops?
DianeIt's not supposed to be shut down at night.
MichaelSo she comes in.
MichaelWhat you see is a Clean lady come in and she's got earbuds in and she's dancing.
MichaelAnd she's dancing.
MichaelAnd she's dancing on the furniture.
MichaelDance or dancing on furniture, on the shorew.
MichaelWiping everything down and clean everything until she comes to a murder board.
MichaelAnd she stops at the murder board and she's doing stuff.
MichaelShe keeps looking at it.
MichaelKeeps looking at it.
MichaelAnd then before she leaves, she goes over and she switches everything around and.
DianeAnd then, you know, basically putting, putting the pieces in place.
MichaelYes.
MichaelWhich they had been trying to do but couldn't by looking at the murder board.
MichaelAnd here you see her shoulder.
MichaelShe fixes everything and then she closes everything up and leaves.
MichaelAnd then the next day they all come in and they kind of get what happened.
MichaelWhat'd you do to my murder board?
DianeRight, well.
DianeAnd then didn't they have to.
DianeThey had to figure out who did it too?
DianeI mean, they, they looked back on the security footage or something and.
MichaelYeah.
MichaelSee her dancing first.
MichaelThey see her dancing around.
DianeYeah, yeah.
MichaelBecause she's dancing around the room.
MichaelClean.
MichaelWhich look, if you're gonna, you, you have to do your thing.
MichaelYou have to go in and clean this whole office building.
MichaelThere's no reason why you can't dance.
DianeAround if it helps you get your job done better.
DianeSure.
MichaelBut.
MichaelSo it was kind of funny.
MichaelThey call her in and say, did you do that?
MichaelWell, yeah.
MichaelWell, yeah, because it wasn't right.
MichaelYou guys had this wrong and this wrong and that wrong.
MichaelAnd so yeah, and then, and then they, they went, okay, well let's try this.
MichaelAnd it works.
MichaelSo that's how it really develops into the show that it is because you get to see her ocd, you get to see her crime solving skills and you just see the chemistry.
MichaelYou get to see.
MichaelI mean, she comes in, she, she doesn't dress like a cop.
MichaelI'll just put that out there.
MichaelShe doesn't dress like a cop.
MichaelShe dresses like a, a 19 year old.
DianeYeah, but she's, you know, look, if you got the body for it, do it.
MichaelYeah, she definitely got the body for it.
DianeSo yeah, it doesn't last that long.
DianeSo good for her.
MichaelIt's all good.
MichaelBut anyway, we should wrap this up.
MichaelWe didn't want to make this quick and easy because we didn't want to take care of most of your day.
MichaelSo I think in my opinion, my verdict is if you haven't watched high potential, binge it.
DianeOh yeah, Very Benjamin show.
DianeDefinitely.
MichaelIf you have watched high potential, we need to like, absolutely put the word out for a second season.
MichaelWe're hoping that these fires that have destroyed so much out in California and put so much on hold that it doesn't affect the industry, you know, to a point where some things get canceled or not being able to.
MichaelThe rookie films there.
MichaelRookie films in Santa Monica films and everywhere that it was burning.
DianeThe rookie films and yeah, they do a lot.
DianeA lot of location shoots on.
DianeOn the Rookie and a lot of other shows and this one too.
DianeHigh potential as well.
DianeLooks to me like they're.
DianeI mean maybe, maybe not.
DianeI don't know for sure but they sure make it look like they're doing real location shooting on the show.
MichaelThey are.
DianeThey are doing real location shooting and yeah.
DianeWhat's going to happen now with so many of the shows now?
DianeI thought high potential already got a second season.
DianeIt has not yet.
MichaelI believe that they have got a second season.
MichaelI believe that I read something about them getting a second season.
MichaelSo.
DianeOkay.
DianeBecause you just said you were hoped that they do but.
MichaelWell, what they did was they gave.
MichaelThey gave him an eight episode start and based on the ratings they gave him like three or four more episodes.
DianeOkay.
MichaelTo go through before season two.
MichaelBut they won't.
DianeSo basically we want them to get a full second.
MichaelWe want to give them a full second season.
MichaelFull second season.
MichaelSo watch it, binge it.
MichaelCheck it out.
MichaelIt is a.
MichaelA.
MichaelIt's a much.
MichaelWhat a must.
DianeMust watch.
MichaelYeah, I tongue tied there.
MichaelSorry.
MichaelMust watch.
DianeIt is definitely a must watch.
DianeIt's one of our favorite shows.
DianeI love it and it definitely helps me escape from reality for an hour, you know.
MichaelYeah.
DianeYeah.
MichaelSo it works.
MichaelYep, it works.
MichaelIt works.
MichaelSo one more thing before you all go.
MichaelYou have any words of wisdom?
MichaelDiane, you want to share anything?
DianeNope.
DianeJust again our hearts go out to Southern California and everybody affected and the first responders and the firefighters.
DianeOh my goodness.
DianeI.
DianeI can't even imagine what the firefighters have been going through.
DianeSo we are thinking of you and thoughts and prayers go out.
DianeNot that how much that helps, but we are thinking of you.
MichaelI think those are amazing words of wisdom.
MichaelI concur.
