Ep08: Why Every Coach Should Become An Author

[00:00:00] When I speak to coaches, one of the biggest questions they have is what does the publishing process look like? How can I write a book and maximize its impact? When I hear this, I recognize that the coach may have one to 20, all these ideas for a book, but they yet, haven't established a core reason as to why they want to write one. For example, a fitness coach might want to use their book as a comprehensive guide to strength, exercise for clients looking to increase their muscle mass, while a life coach might aim to share their personal journey and transformative insights to inspire others. Understanding your unique goals and the intentions you have with your book is essential. What that means is when you do that, you shape the entire writing and publishing process.

[00:00:48] So this episode, I want to explore why every coach should become an author. I'm going to give you the 10, most common reasons as to why. Some might resonate with you some may not, but these are the most 10 common reasons why coaches write books to maximize their impact. So number one, establish authority and credibility. Publishing a book allows you to establish yourself as an expert in your field.

[00:01:15] When you write a book, you automatically differentiate yourself as that person. Now I'm not the biggest fan of the word expert. So I want to clarify what I mean here. When you write your book, you should focus on what, you know, what you're good at, what lights you up and how you help others. When that book's published, you're then positioned in a much more experienced way against someone who hasn't yet written a book but is in the same industry as you, your credibility is almost instantly established with your industry and. When that happens, clients and those who haven't heard of you automatically put trust in you. Number two is the expanded reach and impact. A book gives you the platform for coaches to share knowledge, share insights, with a broader audience beyond their immediate clients. And. When you write a book, it allows you to impact and inspire more people. Also reach on a global scale with Amazon and the distribution methods available to you can reach more people. So a book really allows coaches to expand their reach and impact beyond their geographical location.

[00:02:29] Number three is it's a good way to diversify your revenue stream. Writing a book opens up opportunities for additional income. That wouldn't be in your coaching program or even beyond the royalties. I mean, obviously your royalties can be, a different revenue stream but you could also secure speaking engagements with a book and even develop products or services based on your book content. So for example, you may have a one-to-one or a group coaching program. And that is for your specific people, but. In a general sense. It's well-established and it's a part of what you offer. You then may also write a book and what you might write a book about is something more specialized than what it is you offer.

[00:03:15] So you can use that book as a way to bring in people. And what that also means is you could also charge a higher fee for that coaching service. If you decide to go that way, where, because it's super specialized and you've written a book about it, you automatically have that authority and credibility. Like we did mentioned in number one to raise your prices. So you can really diversify your revenue stream with a book.

[00:03:43] And that is coming off the back of the credibility and authority that you have when you publish a book. The fourth reason why every coach should become an author. Is because it builds trust and connection. Think about this. A well-written book deepens the connection between a coach and your client. Or a potential client. Readers really often feel a sense of trust and rapport. When people have purchased books of mine, the six pillars of a rewarding life. For example, I've had people email me from all around the world and they've gone. Your book really helped me. Your book really changed my life. I have no idea who these people are. But what a book does it creates trust and connection.

[00:04:26] It creates that, that relate-ability knowing that someone really believes in what it is that you're writing and you can really support that. So. A really important part of a book is to create trust and connection. Not only inside, because once you do that inside, it's automatically going to happen outside of the book.

[00:04:47] When people come up to you and say, your book really helped, it will really help you in the future, working with potential clients and it will help them trust you and they really believe in what it is you do.

[00:05:00] The fifth reason. Y every coach should write a book. Is it builds legacy and longevity? . When you write and publish a book, You can continue to inspire and educate readers long after it's been published for decades. And it really cements your impact for years to come think of it this way.

[00:05:20] You might have a coaching program and you might continually evolve that program. For people who aren't aware of that program, but they're also aware of that book. You've really established and you've really educated. Somebody who you may not. Even know. So your impact, it really cements itself in a book.

[00:05:43] The sixth reason is your book provides differentiation and a competitive advantage. So in a crowded coaching marketplace, especially online having a published book sets you as a coach, apart from the competition. It really provides a unique selling point and it gives potential clients a reason to choose you over others.

[00:06:05] So let's look at it this way. If you're new to coaching and you don't really have an audience yet, you know what you do, and the services you offer are really going to help people. And. There's another coach in your exact industry or exact marketplace. Who you feel like is almost on the same journey as you, in terms of earlier on and they don't have a huge audience yet. If you've got a book that helps solve problems for your potential clients. That is really the competitive advantage that I'm talking about when it comes to generating leads and really growing your audience from there. The differentiation is you've got the book and someone else may have a PDF or a checklist. To, try and bring people into their world.

[00:06:57] People are generally going to choose something that is going to be extremely powerful and help them solve their problems. And the book is that differentiator. It's that tool that gives you the competitive advantage.

[00:07:10] So having a published book is really beneficial when it comes to differentiating yourself, especially earlier on. And then you can also use that as a tool later on. We, once you've built that audience, you can automatically. Use that book as a tool to differentiate yourself from the pack.

[00:07:27] The seventh reason why every coach should become an author is the personal and professional growth. My book published to impact is. Really written for this.

[00:07:38] The title of my book is published to impact how to write, publish, and launch a nonfiction book to amplify your business and ignite personal growth. So the process of writing a book is such a transformative journey for coaches and it leads directly to personal and professional growth, because when you write a book you're required to reflect, research and refine all your ideas and get clarity and understanding in your subject, your expertise, what you offer to clients, you know, we've all heard that when you actually write your goals down they're more likely to come to fruition. But what about when you write your book? When you write your book, there is so much clarity that goes on from start to finish. That growth is inevitable. It's life-changing is game-changing and it really helps navigate you through your business, your coaching business as well.

[00:08:32] So the growth that happens when you write a book is remarkable and it also brings such a big resilience into your life as well.

[00:08:43] The eighth reason why every coach should write a book is to establish thought leadership.

[00:08:48] What I mean by that is writing a book. Isn't just about sharing your expertise in what you know, it's about shaping the conversation within your industry and for coaches. This means really taking the opportunity to contribute to. Unique perspectives and strategies that may haven't been pushed as much as you wanted, or, you know, outdated strategies that you believe people are still running. And it can really push the boundaries of that modern day, conventional thinking. So when you publish a book, You position yourself as a thought leader and someone who's just not content to simply follow the status quo of what should happen and what shouldn't happen in your industry, because context is everything.

[00:09:33] And if you can use that book to create that context, It's a really powerful tool to shape the future of your field and get it into the right hands of the people who want to learn. A boot provides coaches with a platform to delve deeper into topics that matter most. And whether it's exploring trends or debunking myths or. You know, bringing to light important research The explanation that you can provide in a book really allows you to showcase your expertise in a way that's not only just comprehensive but accessible and it really attracts attention and respects from peers and clients all in your industry.

[00:10:14] The ninth reason why every coach should write a book and become an author. I think this is a big one. It's marketing and branding. It gives you a tool to market and brand your coaching service. So a book really serves as a powerful way to. Attract attention, generate publicity and really enhance your online presence. Additionally the content of what you include in the book, you can repurpose that content into social media posts, blood posts, and really other marketing materials.

[00:10:47] So let's look at published impact as an example.

[00:10:51] I wrote published to impact the book, and then I started a podcast called the publish to impact podcast. And this episode why every coach should become an author and number nine, marketing and branding. I've referenced that in my published to impact book. So I'm repurposing that content. So the content of your book can be repurposed for blog posts, social media posts, and really any marketing materials that you can continue to use.

[00:11:19] You don't have to sit there and think of, oh, what am I going to write today? What am I going to. Put out. You know, it makes sharing your content on social media for your coaching business, a whole hell of a lot easier.

[00:11:32] And the 10th reason why every coach should write a book is the personal fulfillment and satisfaction you get. So finally, when you write and publish a book and you hold it in your hands for the first time, There's a really inexplainable. Feeling that happens and it never gets old either, by the way, when you write a book it's a really satisfying experience, especially for coaches because it allows you to share your passion and your expertise with the world, and it leaves a meaningful impact on others while you also fulfill your own aspirations. And like I said before, you have so much more clarity. In your coaching and your book has provided that for you. All right. Let's recap. The 10 reasons why every coach should become an author. The first reason you establish authority and credibility. The second reason. You get to make more of an impact and expand your reach beyond your location and beyond where you are.

[00:12:31] A book travels far. Third reason you get to diversify your revenue stream. So whether that's earning money through your book royalties or developing a coaching program on your book or specialized coaching program. There are different ways to diversify your revenue stream from your book. The fourth reason is trust and connection.

[00:12:52] Readers really feel a sense of trust and rapport when they read your book. And you could also bring potential clients into your business.

[00:13:01] Fifth reason, legacy and longevity. A book creates a legacy. You can either write a book to create a legacy, or you can write a book to leave a legacy depending on where you are in your coaching. Journey. If you're at the backend of it, you might use that book as a legacy leaver. Or you could speak in creating a legacy. dOn't think that you have to really be at the end of your coaching journey to write a book.

[00:13:23] That's definitely not the case. I wrote published the impact before I even started my book coaching business.

[00:13:29] The sixth reason why every coach should become an author is the differentiation and competitive advantage. So these days where. Online coaching is really prevalent. You. You know, you've got that many. Fitness coaches online.

[00:13:42] You've got that many virtual assistants that many nutritionists. If you have a book. It can really set you apart especially, if you want to use your book as a way to bring leads into your business. The seventh reason is the personal and professional growth, very self-explanatory. But the process of writing a book is a transformative journey. I want you to believe that. And as a coach, that is really valuable for how you show up each day and how you show up for your clients. The eighth reason. Opportunity for thought leadership. So you can really challenge modern day thinking if you believe that everybody thinks a certain way in your industry, you can use your book to challenge that status quo and challenge the beliefs that people have.

[00:14:29] The ninth reason is your book can be a marketing and branding tool. So you can use your book to generate leads, give it away for free or you can use it to. Attract attention, generate publicity. Podcast tours, all that kind of stuff. There's plenty of ways to market and brand your book and your coaching business. and the final reason is the fulfillment you get and the satisfaction when you write and publish a book.

[00:14:55] If you're listening to this episode. You obviously want to write a book and there are a whole lot of barriers that may stop you but before you overcome those limiting beliefs, Really ask yourself why. Why will you write your book? Why do you want to write the book? Why will it help you in the future and I want you to write down the two options that you believe. You should become an author from this list.

[00:15:24] After you write down your two reasons why. I want you to then narrow down an idea. Think of the idea. That you really want for your book?

[00:15:32] Think about whether or not your book is something that you want for you right now. And if it is, I want you to reach out to me and let me know your book idea. What we would then do is I will just have a chat with you about your idea. And I'll try to help validate that idea for you. And what will then happen is one of two things. One, you know exactly how to move forward.

[00:15:52] If you want that book written today. Or two. If now's not the right time for you. You know exactly the process of how to get started in the future. So I'm going to leave you with that. Write down your two reasons why you want to become an author. Reach out to me with your book idea, I'll get back to you and then we can have a chat.

[00:16:12] And if it really suits you, we can set up a call.

[00:16:15] . So that's all I've got for you today, I hope you have really taken a lot away from this episode. And as always, if you live in Perth and you want me to get, send you a copy of. Published impact, write down your two reasons why you want to become an author. And I'm more than happy to send you a paperback copy.

[00:16:33] If you live in Perth, Australia. So until next time, we'll catch a soon.
