Foreign.
Speaker AJanuary 27, 2025.
Speaker AAnd this is worth the binge.
Speaker AThe show where Aubrey and Jeff talk about shows worth binging.
Speaker AThis week, we'll be discussing episode two of season two of severance.
Speaker AI'm pretty pumped.
Speaker AI'm very.
Speaker AStart.
Speaker AVacation, you said?
Speaker AI've already started.
Speaker AI don't know if it really officially starts until I'm getting paid for not working.
Speaker BWell, I think.
Speaker BI think you've started.
Speaker AMaybe, But I would definitely be on vacation tomorrow.
Speaker AI plan on sleeping in.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AI plan on looking for the mail.
Speaker BWhat do you mean by that?
Speaker AI mean I have something coming in the mail tomorrow, most likely.
Speaker BWhat is it?
Speaker ASteam duck.
Speaker BOh, yeah, yeah.
Speaker AThat we know that you're just gonna take so you can play Spider Man.
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker ABut it's, you know, it's gonna be good.
Speaker ATake a couple days off, do some.
Speaker ASome housework and editing.
Speaker AYeah, and some editing.
Speaker AI gotta do that too.
Speaker ABut either way, I am excited to have some time off, you know, and we're going to go ahead into the episode.
Speaker BLet's do it.
Speaker BSeason two, episode two is titled Goodbye, Mrs.
Speaker BSelvig.
Speaker BMark contemplates the meaning of a message.
Speaker AYeah, it seems like you got your wish.
Speaker BI did.
Speaker BI finally did.
Speaker BWe got to see what happens when the Audis wake up from last season.
Speaker AFor the most part.
Speaker BFor the most part, we still have.
Speaker AA little bit of missing time, but, yeah, we got it.
Speaker AWe had a good deep dive.
Speaker AThe most information we got was definitely from Mark's point of view, and that was obviously the one we probably wanted the most.
Speaker ABut it would have been cool to see exactly what happened on Bert's doorstep.
Speaker BYeah, I hope we get to see that.
Speaker AI feel like we will.
Speaker AI just don't know.
Speaker AI kind of also feel like it's not episode three.
Speaker BYeah, it might be a little later on.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker AI could be wrong, but I kind of feel like it's not right away.
Speaker BSo we're starting this episode.
Speaker BWe get a compilation of audio, kind of like we did with episode one of the season one finale.
Speaker BAnd then we get to see Mark yelling for Devin.
Speaker AYeah, these two felt like sister episodes.
Speaker BAnd then the Audis wake up, and we see everybody kind of staring at Mark, but he's kind of not sure why everybody's staring at him.
Speaker AYeah, I feel like I've had that same dream, like, a hundred times.
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker AJust awkwardly with standing there with people all around you.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BDevin goes over to Mark and gives him a hug and checks on him and ask him, is that.
Speaker BIs that you?
Speaker BSo weird.
Speaker AYeah, it's weird in every context except this show.
Speaker BMark looks down after she checks on him and notices his wedding photo is in hand.
Speaker AYeah, you gotta feel some kind of way about that.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BSo then we go back to Lumen to see Helena Egan after the gala, and she's having a weird encounter with her father, who walks into wherever they are.
Speaker BHer father looks at her in disgust and says, fetid moppet.
Speaker BAnd then he leaves.
Speaker BIt was so aggressive.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnother example of the excellent face acting in this show.
Speaker AHow angry he was.
Speaker AAnd then the slow confusion into turn into disgust, either with her or himself.
Speaker AI'm not sure, but maybe a little of both as he spins away.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd Helena doesn't really look scared, but she's just like, father.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AShe.
Speaker AThat's a weird dynamic because she was not surprised by that.
Speaker BNo.
Speaker BNext we see Dylan's Audi leaving for the night with an ice pack on his head.
Speaker BAnd Milchek is watching him creepily from above.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BIt was interesting to see the lights turn out as he was, like, walking through the lobby.
Speaker BI don't think we've ever seen that before.
Speaker AYeah, he stayed late.
Speaker BI would be so confused, like, why?
Speaker BWhy am I here so late?
Speaker BLike, I've never left this late before.
Speaker BBut he seems cool with it.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWe see Helena meeting Milchick and she asked him to do some damage control.
Speaker BAnd Milchik asks if he should fire them.
Speaker BAnd Helena says, let Keir guide your hand, which kind of gives him permission to do whatever he wants.
Speaker ASounds like it.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWe get to see a really cool wide shot going in in Lumen outside, and Helena's walking through, going to a boardroom where we see Ms.
Speaker BCobell in there.
Speaker AYeah, it was a really cool looking shot, although I feel like it.
Speaker AThat one was probably CGI, I think.
Speaker BProbably.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker BHelena thanks Mrs.
Speaker BCobell for her loyalty and asks if she'll come back to the company.
Speaker BWants to give her a really bogus promotion.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AShe's like, yeah, I'll think about it.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BShe says it's to a severance advisory council, which Cobell's never heard before.
Speaker BAfter that, we cut to Milchick taking off on his motorcycle, which I didn't.
Speaker ASee him as a motorcycle guy, but he looks amazing.
Speaker BHe does.
Speaker BAnd we cut back to Helena sitting down to record an apology video.
Speaker BShe states that she was drinking while taking a non lumen medication for an arm rash.
Speaker BAnd then, I don't know I thought that was.
Speaker BYou pointed out the non Lumen part to me.
Speaker AOh, yeah.
Speaker AObviously it wasn't a Lumen product making her act so crazy.
Speaker BMm.
Speaker BDid you think that was Natalie recording the video?
Speaker AI didn't really think about it, but.
Speaker BMaybe I was trying to think of who would be back there, but.
Speaker BSo as she continues this apology video, we cut back and forth between her and Milchick.
Speaker BAnd he's knocking at Irving's door.
Speaker BHe asks Irving if anything weird happened, and Irving says, not that he can think of.
Speaker BThen we see Milchick at Dylan's house, and he tells him he is also fired because he got in an altercation with a.
Speaker BA co worker and he was the aggressor.
Speaker AAnd that he was the aggressor.
Speaker BYeah, that.
Speaker BThat's crazy.
Speaker BSo then we cut to our new intro.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AJust like season one, we only saw the actual intro cinematics in the second episode, not the first one.
Speaker BYeah, it was interesting.
Speaker BThere's a couple things to this new intro that I thought were really weird.
Speaker BLike these babies that are just crawling over Mark.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker BIt was very bizarre.
Speaker BAnd the babies were in suits.
Speaker AThey indeed were.
Speaker AAnd not birthday suits.
Speaker BWe see this projector with a goat on it and the goats also wearing a suit, which I thought was weird.
Speaker AGood for the goat.
Speaker BWe see Ms.
Speaker BCasey and we see Helly are running around in Mark's brain like shadows of them.
Speaker AYeah, he's definitely got a lot on his mind.
Speaker BI thought it was interesting, too, the depiction of.
Speaker BWe see the severance chip, and it's not being put in like it was for season one.
Speaker BIt's being taken out of the brain.
Speaker BSo that might be a symbol of reintegration for someone.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker AMaybe.
Speaker AI think it's going to happen, I think, before the season's over, but definitely, I think, before the series is over.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AWhich, by the way, we got confirmation of season three.
Speaker BYeah, that was exciting.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BAnd then baby Kier at the very end of the intro, crawling up to Mark.
Speaker AHe's cute.
Speaker BYou think Kier's gonna be reborn?
Speaker AI think he already has.
Speaker BInteresting.
Speaker BAll right, so after our new intro, we cut back to Rickon's party as the last guest, Rebecc, leaves.
Speaker BShe is so funny.
Speaker BShe says, don't punish the baby, Rickon.
Speaker AYeah, it's.
Speaker AIt's not the baby's fault that your entire book reading got ruined.
Speaker BYeah, it's.
Speaker BIt's definitely not.
Speaker BDevin and Mark are kind of contemplating the meaning behind what any Mark said she's alive, which I thought was self explanatory, but I guess not.
Speaker BThey think it's the baby being alive.
Speaker AI mean, I don't blame Mark for not believing it.
Speaker BMm.
Speaker AI mean, it's a weird thing to hear when you know that your spouse is dead.
Speaker BThat's true.
Speaker BWe get Rickon giving Cobell a new nickname.
Speaker BKobe.
Speaker ASorry.
Speaker BKobelvig.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AWhich is just her new name now.
Speaker BJust.
Speaker BYeah, we're gonna.
Speaker BWe're gonna make it a thing.
Speaker AWe got milkshake.
Speaker AWe got Cabel bake.
Speaker BDevon continues telling Mark about the evening when the doorbell rings and it's milkshake.
Speaker AAnd no one even ordered him.
Speaker BDevin covers up the wedding photo with a towel.
Speaker BBefore they go and sit down with milkshake, Milchick explains to them about the overtime contingency and how one of his co workers was able to access it for 39 minutes.
Speaker AYeah, and mildly weird thing when he was saying it, just the way he says lines sometimes.
Speaker AHe said it was in your start paperwork.
Speaker BMm.
Speaker ANot that weird, but just I thought it was a little bit weird to not be in your starting paperwork.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd I thought he said stark, like with a K.
Speaker BSo I was kind of confused.
Speaker ADefinitely even more weird than starting paperwork.
Speaker BBut you'd think that.
Speaker BI mean, maybe Mark didn't care, but you would read through that paperwork.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker AYeah, I mean, most of us skip the terms and conditions.
Speaker AThat's true, if it was even in there.
Speaker AYeah, I mean, dude's a serial liar, so who knows?
Speaker BGot a long record of lying.
Speaker BMilchick asked Devin what any Mark said to her, and she says, if I tell you, are you gonna punish him for it?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BLittle sassy Devin.
Speaker AHeck yeah.
Speaker BAnd Milchick answers with, we don't.
Speaker BWe have no punishments at Lumen.
Speaker ANo break room.
Speaker BYeah, no break room.
Speaker BNo weird mirror rooms making people sweat.
Speaker BYeah, and we can tell Devin doesn't believe that for a second.
Speaker BShe then brings up Kobel Big, and Milchick says that she's no longer going to be bothering Mark at Lumen or at home.
Speaker AYeah, she'll never descend onto that floor again.
Speaker BOh, my gosh.
Speaker BHis verbiage is insane.
Speaker AThat one felt on purpose.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd then Milchick gets up to leave and says he hopes to see Mark on Monday.
Speaker BAnd Mark's not too sure about that.
Speaker AYeah, he finally seems like maybe he's going to.
Speaker AGoing to quit.
Speaker BWe get a compilation of all the Audis after Milchick's news.
Speaker BIrving's Pulling the map of Burt's out of his pocket.
Speaker BDylan's on his couch and Helena watching a severed floor footage.
Speaker BAnd Mark is driving home.
Speaker AThat face acting there was.
Speaker AWas really intense, like watching her eyes as she took all that in.
Speaker BShe.
Speaker BWe get to see her watching Marquess and Heliar saying goodbye to each other and she does a little half smile at their banter that they have, which I couldn't tell if it was like she thought it was sweet or she's like knows how to manipulate the situation now.
Speaker BI couldn't really tell.
Speaker AProbably both.
Speaker BShe stops the tape after their kiss and she rewinds it and watches it again from another angle.
Speaker AWhat a perv.
Speaker BVery much so.
Speaker BBut then to make it even worse, she stops and rewinds it again and re watches it a third time.
Speaker BSo crazy.
Speaker BWe cut to Mark in a reversed sense.
Speaker BHe is now the one creepily looking out his window at Kobelvig's house.
Speaker BAnd he gets a text from Devin to meet him for some diner food.
Speaker AYeah, some crappy diner food.
Speaker BCrappy diner food.
Speaker BNext we see Audi Dylan.
Speaker BHe's driving through Kier to go to a job interview at Great doors.
Speaker BBefore going in, Dylan pumps himself up in the mirror, which I thought thought was super cool.
Speaker BAnd the interview seems to be going great until.
Speaker BDo you remember the guy's name?
Speaker ANo.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker ABut the dude is from Secret Life of Walter Mitty, so that's pretty cool.
Speaker BUntil the guy finds out he's severed.
Speaker AYeah, Then it goes real bad and it ruined Devin's really sweet door jokes he had going on.
Speaker BI know he had some great ones.
Speaker BThe guy didn't really like his door prize joke though.
Speaker AYeah, this is the best one.
Speaker BYeah, I.
Speaker BI laughed at that one.
Speaker BIt was, it was pretty good.
Speaker BDylan.
Speaker BWe get to see him in his car.
Speaker BHe's kind of defeated.
Speaker BHis phone rings and we hear his wife trying to console him on the phone.
Speaker BHer voice sounded really familiar to me, but I can't really tell where I know it from, whether it's from another show or if we've heard it in the season before the series before.
Speaker BSo then we're back at Lenora Lake at Irving's house.
Speaker BHe walks down the street to a payphone and leaves a mysterious voicemail to someone saying, I want you to know my auntie got the message.
Speaker AYeah, I had to cheat on that one and rewind it and let Apple show me the subtitles.
Speaker BI know, me too.
Speaker BAnd then a car rolls up.
Speaker BWho's in the car?
Speaker ACobelvig.
Speaker AMilcheck?
Speaker BNo.
Speaker ADylan?
Speaker BNo.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker BIt's Bert.
Speaker AIt was Bert.
Speaker BHe looks kind of suspicious, but I.
Speaker AMean, it is Christopher Walken and this.
Speaker BLunatic was just banging on his door, so I guess he has a reason to.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd we don't know what happened after that still, so.
Speaker BYeah, I really want to know.
Speaker AMaybe.
Speaker AMaybe one day that we'll find out.
Speaker BMaybe.
Speaker BWe cut back to Mark's house and his doorbell rings.
Speaker BIt's Milkshake.
Speaker AHe just never stops.
Speaker BHe's got a fruit basket for him with a pineapple.
Speaker ADid you immediately think of a different show of yours?
Speaker BMm.
Speaker APsych.
Speaker BMilchig comes in and tries to give Mark some incentives on trying to get him back to work.
Speaker BHe incentivizes him with a pay bump, an investigation into his any's claims, regular wellness checks, and solace like his innie has if he gives it time.
Speaker AA 20% pay bump?
Speaker BYeah, that's.
Speaker AThat's money.
Speaker BWe don't know how much he's making, but that's a lot.
Speaker A20 is a bunch.
Speaker BDo you think the wellness checks for.
Speaker BFor him or for his.
Speaker BAny.
Speaker BBecause if it's.
Speaker AWho knows?
Speaker BIf it's for his any, they got rid of wellness.
Speaker BSo that's a lie.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AI mean, who knows?
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker AHe also tells Mark he found love there, which is such a weird thing to say.
Speaker BAnd then when Mark asked, he kind of goes over it.
Speaker AYeah, he's like, with who?
Speaker AWhich also is weird because Mark doesn't even know who he works with.
Speaker BBut yeah.
Speaker BYeah, I guess he knows one person he used to work with, but.
Speaker AYeah, he knows that Petey's dead.
Speaker BAnd he used to work with Kobe.
Speaker BI thought it was kind of bad of Milk Milchick to start talking about Gemma.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker BI guess he was trying to hit the heartstrings of trying to get him back that way.
Speaker BLean into his.
Speaker AI mean, if Pineapple won't do it.
Speaker AYeah, you gotta go with what you got.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BBut it works because we see Mark outside of Lumen, kind of debating whether to go back in or not.
Speaker BThen you finally decides to.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AGoing back to the first time he came back in episode one, when he had that brand new team that no one knew anything about.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BWe get to see Helena watching him walk in from the upstairs window.
Speaker BShe's with Milchick, Natalie, and Mr.
Speaker BDrummond.
Speaker BMilchick tells them that he's hired a new team and says that he thinks they'll have chemistry.
Speaker BBut Helena tells them they don't need chemistry.
Speaker BWe just need Marcus to get back to work on Cold Harbor.
Speaker AMark is important.
Speaker BWe get a montage of Mark going into the elevator and coming right back out.
Speaker BKind of the opposite perspective of we did with Mark.
Speaker BAny from the last episode?
Speaker BIt was so weird that the night he gets sent home early, like, he's only worked 15 minutes, but.
Speaker BBut he still comes out of the elevator and says, good night, Judd.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ABecause he thinks it's nighttime.
Speaker BWe hear the message, any Mark left for the board?
Speaker BAs we fade into a tape recorder playing his message on the boardroom table.
Speaker BMilchick, Helena, and Mr.
Speaker BDrummond are there.
Speaker BMr.
Speaker BDrummond explains that the board will.
Speaker AGive them what he wants, Including Helly R.
Speaker AIncluding Hellyar, by the way.
Speaker ADrummond.
Speaker AAlso from Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Speaker BYou love that show.
Speaker BYeah, that movie.
Speaker AI guess it is great.
Speaker BThey're giving him what he wants because he's not gonna finish without him.
Speaker AAnd they really need for him to.
Speaker BGet this done, whatever he's doing.
Speaker AYeah, whatever it is.
Speaker BWe get to see two more fruit baskets being delivered by Milchick to Irving and Dylan.
Speaker AGetting the team back.
Speaker BGetting the team back.
Speaker BI kind of wanted to see him groveling a little bit more to get them back.
Speaker AMailchick doesn't grovel.
Speaker BI know, but, like.
Speaker BBut after they're fired, like, what would convince them to come back?
Speaker ALike, I guess Dylan needed the money.
Speaker BReally, And Irving has other weird stuff going on.
Speaker BYeah, I guess so.
Speaker AHe got a plan.
Speaker BWe see Mark come back the next day, and he passes Mark W.
Speaker BBeing kicked out of the building by security.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AHe broke a lease.
Speaker AHe broke a whole lease in Grand Rapids.
Speaker BThis time, we get to see the Audi perspective of everyone coming back to work.
Speaker BAnd it was a really cool, like, looked like one shot.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWe get to hear two dings on the elevator for everyone but heli.
Speaker AYeah, the sound was definitely different.
Speaker AAlmost like something was different about this person going down the elevator.
Speaker AAlmost like she didn't undergo a change as she hit the severed floor.
Speaker BI guess we'll find out, but I think we know.
Speaker AI think we know.
Speaker AYeah, That's.
Speaker AThat's Helena.
Speaker AWhat we don't know is if any or everyone else knows it's Helena.
Speaker ALike the other people at Lumen.
Speaker BMm.
Speaker BI think Irving has some suspicions, but.
Speaker AYeah, but I'm talking the bosses, everyone else up top.
Speaker ADid they approve that?
Speaker AI mean, Drummond said Mark's getting heliar.
Speaker ADid Helena decide to do that on her own?
Speaker AIs she curious about feelings that she thought she Might get to feel.
Speaker BI get that.
Speaker BBut I don't think there's any way that she would let Heliar go down there and tell everybody who she really is.
Speaker AThat's true.
Speaker AThat's true.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AI get that.
Speaker BSo we got one more scene when Mark gets home from work and he sees Cobelvig leaving her house.
Speaker BHe confronts her about everything.
Speaker BShe doesn't even seem faced.
Speaker ANot a little.
Speaker AShe's packing.
Speaker AShe's getting ready to go.
Speaker BAnd Mark jumps in front of the car as she's taking off.
Speaker BHe asks her what this is all about.
Speaker BDoes she know something about Gemma?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BAnd she.
Speaker BHer eyes looks down.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker AShe gives it away.
Speaker BGives it all away.
Speaker AAnd then lets out this primal scream that really is only rivaled by Dylan's primal scream when he took down Milkshake in season one.
Speaker AOh, yeah, the guttural pig scream.
Speaker BIt was insane.
Speaker BAs she's honking on the horn.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BAnd begins to go.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BDoesn't care.
Speaker BShe runs down Mark.
Speaker AI mean, she swerved.
Speaker AShe didn't hit him.
Speaker BLuckily, Mark jumps out of the way, and Cobel rides off in her vehicle.
Speaker AGood riddance.
Speaker AI don't think he's gonna have to worry about living next to her anymore.
Speaker BNo.
Speaker BDo you think it's the last we savor?
Speaker ANo, no, no.
Speaker AI don't believe that.
Speaker ABut I think it's the last he has of her as a neighbor.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AGood for him, because she can't even handle trash day.
Speaker AShe can't, you know, I mean, you.
Speaker BCan'T handle the trash day.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo, I mean, it's gonna be way easier on him to handle that.
Speaker BMm.
Speaker AI think cinematically, for me, this episode, I'm gonna have to go with Milkshake on the motorcycle just looking like an absolute unit riding around and.
Speaker AAnd even the, like, little bit of touch they left of the leather jacket sounding how good it sounded as he.
Speaker AIt, like, added to the uncomfortableness of him talking to the different MDR team members.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AI just thought it had a little bit of touch with his.
Speaker ALike, we know he's a liar, but, man, is he smooth.
Speaker BSo smooth you wish you were as smooth as Milkshake.
Speaker AI mean, maybe I don't even know where my life would be right now.
Speaker AI don't think I could handle it.
Speaker AI don't think I could be that smooth.
Speaker ALike, Rob Thomas would be singing about me.
Speaker BSo Dylan's amazing verbiage this episode.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AMostly at the Door Factory.
Speaker BMostly at the Door Factory.
Speaker BAnd it wasn't even any Dylan, which we love any Dylan but Audi.
Speaker BDylan has a great line when he talks about the door prizes.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker BAnd getting all the rest of those, those door puns in there.
Speaker ASo that's your, your winner for his line for this episode, huh?
Speaker BYes, that's my winner.
Speaker AThat's fair.
Speaker AThat's fair.
Speaker AIt gets the, the door price.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BAn observation I wanted to give really quick was we finally get around to Mark changing his burnt out light bulb that I noticed first season.
Speaker BBut we don't like he actually makes the effort to do it and then in the process he can't because the doorbell rings.
Speaker AI don't think it's ever getting changed.
Speaker AYou're just going to be frustrated about it for years.
Speaker BAnd he's finally taking care of those fish.
Speaker BI finally saw some, some food.
Speaker AYeah, he's healing.
Speaker AHe's getting a little better.
Speaker BI'm surprised the fish aren't, you know, gone yet.
Speaker BBut anyway.
Speaker AYeah, it might not be real.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker BI don't know even know if they are real.
Speaker BI mean I told you in our first episode that they weren't even there one scene.
Speaker BSo.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo they may not be.
Speaker BSo I guess we'll have to find out as the season goes on.
Speaker AYeah, that we will.
Speaker BWe appreciate you guys listening to us talk about episode two.
Speaker BRemember, if you'd like to tell us your thoughts or have questions that we can talk about, you can call in on our Podline at 415-podline.
Speaker BThat's the 1415 Podline.
Speaker BThanks so much for listening to us.
Speaker BWe're out.
Speaker BLater.
Speaker ABye.
Speaker ALet's cut that other part out mentally.
Speaker AYou hear that?
