Speaker A

Welcome to Love Notes from Rhonda.

Speaker A

And today I want you to mix it up.

Speaker A

That's right, I want you to mix it up.

Speaker A

And how do I want you to mix it up?

Speaker A

If you're right handed, I want you to use your left hand for more things during your day.

Speaker A

If you're left handed, I want you to use your right hand.

Speaker A

See, the human brain is an organ, right?

Speaker A

That improves through that mental stimulation, trying new things.

Speaker A

And the brain continuously adapts and grows and rewires itself through the growth of new neurons.

Speaker A

And when you mix it up, when you shift your right hand activities and give it to your left hand, something simple as brushing your teeth.

Speaker A

If you brush your teeth with your right hand, use your left hand, what happens is that you create new neural pathways.

Speaker A

And, and what happens when you create neural pathways?

Speaker A

It strengthens those neural connections in your brain and you can even grow new ones, right?

Speaker A

It's similar to how physical exercise improves your body's functioning, grows muscles.

Speaker A

Well, the same thing happens in your brain.

Speaker A

You have to actively participate with the growth of your brain cells, creating those new strong neural connections so that you can think differently.

Speaker A

So try using your non dominant hand to write, use it to control the computer mouse, the television remote, brushing your teeth.

Speaker A

Try to do things with your non dominant hand throughout the day.

Speaker A

It might slow you down a little bit because you're used to just whipping through your day using your dominant hand.

Speaker A

But I promise you, if you start practicing using your non dominant hand on a frequent basis, even if it's something as simple as starting to brush your teeth with a non dominant hand and then maybe using the soap in the shower or maybe it's pouring a glass of water, right?

Speaker A

Starting to use.

Speaker A

And be conscious of not always leaning on your normal dominant hand, right?

Speaker A

Because when you use that non dominant hand, it helps improve your neurons, strengthens them, creates more connections.

Speaker A

And then you, my friend, well, you can grow.

Speaker A

And you know what else you can do when you start using that non dominant hand throughout the day?

Speaker A

You get to be more creative.

Speaker A

That's right.

Speaker A

When you use the same hand, the same dominant hand for everything throughout the day, sure.

Speaker A

It creates efficiencies in the brain, right?

Speaker A

It creates efficiency through your day.

Speaker A

Cause you're using the same hand, you know how to do that.

Speaker A

But when you use that non dominant hand, the brain actually says, huh, changes a foot, which then gives it permission to have actually more creativity, right?

Speaker A

It confuses the brain, it puts it off track and it wonders what now?

Speaker A

What's gonna happen now?

Speaker A

It creates that level of creativity.

Speaker A

So, so try writing with the opposite hand.

Speaker A

Try brushing your teeth with the opposite hand so you can absolutely get those creative juices going again.

Speaker A

So let me give you a little bit more neuroscience on this.

Speaker A

See, the non dominant hand is actually linked to the non dominant hemisphere in your brain, the one that isn't exercised as often.

Speaker A

And so there are studies that show that when you use that dominant hand, one brain, one hemisphere of your brain is active.

Speaker A

So when you use the non dominant hand, both hemispheres are activated.

Speaker A

So that results in you thinking differently and becoming more creative and becoming more flexible, more pliable, so that you are able to have as many brain cells working in your favor as possible.

Speaker A

So today, mix it up.

Speaker A

Non dominant hand, try to brush those teeth, try to pour a glass of water.

Speaker A

Do your best to do something different.

Speaker A

Write with your non dominant hand.

Speaker A

The more you do this on a regular basis, the more you're gonna find your creativity is sparked and your passion is even more alive.

Speaker A

And oh, by the way, your brain, you'll use the whole thing.

Speaker A

Until next time, be fearless.

Speaker A

I love.
