I think it would be a big pain if you missed this episode.
Speaker ALet's get started, sir.
Speaker AI will live with perseverance in the spirit of Taekwondo, courtesy for fellow students, integrity within myself, and to become a black belt leader.
Speaker AWelcome to the Ata Nation podcast.
Speaker AInstructors, students, parents, family of Ata Nation, thank you for tuning in.
Speaker AThis is episode 143 of the Ata Nation podcast.
Speaker AWe couldn't do it without you guys.
Speaker AThank you so much for the support.
Speaker AWe are back with another excellent episode, interviewing one of the athletes of the week.
Speaker AThese interviews I'm just enjoying so much because we get to hear from the just the regular Taekwondo student out there, the regular ATA athlete that is just out there going beyond the belt.
Speaker AWe have so many stories of just everyday students going beyond the belt with their athleticism, with their training, with their goals.
Speaker AAnd I think it has been so much fun to highlight these individuals.
Speaker AToday we have on the episode Ms.
Speaker AAddison Payne.
Speaker ASo let's get right to it.
Speaker ASpecial guest interview, ATA Nation.
Speaker AWe have another awesome athlete with us today.
Speaker AThis is Ms.
Speaker AAddison Payne.
Speaker AHow are you today, ma'am?
Speaker BHow are you?
Speaker AI am wonderful.
Speaker ASo first of all, tell us where you train, who your instructor is, and what rank you are.
Speaker BI train at World Class Martial Arts in Henderson, Nevada.
Speaker BMy instructors are Senior Master Trish Kurtz and Chief Master Ken Kurtz.
Speaker BAnd I'm a secondary level.
Speaker AWell, awesome.
Speaker ACongratulations.
Speaker AThat's awesome.
Speaker ANow what?
Speaker AI see you have this awesome ATA Max shirt on.
Speaker ADid you.
Speaker AHave you gone to one of the Max gatherings before?
Speaker BYes, I've gone to the Max gathering two and three.
Speaker AOh, so you were at the one we just had.
Speaker AHow was it?
Speaker AWhat did you think of it?
Speaker BIt was so much fun.
Speaker BI love going to ATM Max.
Speaker BThere's such a great experience and definitely, like, good learning experiences.
Speaker ANice.
Speaker ANow, speaking of atmx, if you know you're competing, you're doing all kinds of things.
Speaker AWhat's your.
Speaker AYour top, your favorite competition event that you like to do?
Speaker BI definitely like creative weapons.
Speaker BI feel like would have to be.
Speaker AMy number one creative weapon.
Speaker ASo what's your weapon of choice?
Speaker ADouble checks, Double chucks.
Speaker AVery good.
Speaker ASo, and creative version, not the extreme version.
Speaker BNo, I don't.
Speaker BI'm not usually a tricker.
Speaker BI like doing, like, the speed and the actual technique of things.
Speaker ANice.
Speaker BEasier for me to do.
Speaker BCreative.
Speaker AExcellent.
Speaker AOh, I love that.
Speaker AVery good.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker AAnd I've been asking most of the athletes if we all love all parts of Taekwondo.
Speaker AWe love to train.
Speaker AIt's all cool.
Speaker ABut if there was One event that you were like, I'll skip that one.
Speaker AWhat event would that be?
Speaker BOh, my gosh, that's really hard.
Speaker AGood answer, good answer.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker BI probably have to say one of the XMA events.
Speaker BOkay, like, again, like what I said, I'm not really like somebody that flips.
Speaker ANot a big tricker.
Speaker ABut the creative stuff you like.
Speaker ASo what is it about the creative that you really enjoy?
Speaker BI like how it's like you get to make up your own thing, you get to do what you want, but it's more like, it's more on the martial arts side of things.
Speaker BLike, it's still a form, you're still kicking, you're still like hitting somebody.
Speaker BYou're not like just doing like a dance or a gymnastics kind of like.
Speaker AYes, very cool.
Speaker AI love that.
Speaker AI like it.
Speaker AGood, good.
Speaker ASo what kind of, you know, you're one of these athletes that they're highlighting out there.
Speaker AYou know, you're a great example for people.
Speaker AWhat kind of goals are you setting?
Speaker AMaybe short term goals or long term goals in your martial arts training?
Speaker BOne of my goals is definitely a world champion in any event, but I also want to become a master when I'm older.
Speaker BThat's like, definitely one thing I'm.
Speaker BI love, like, teaching the kids.
Speaker BI love, like, helping instruct class.
Speaker BSo definitely a master.
Speaker AOh, that is a great goal.
Speaker AI can't wait, Like, I can't wait, like, to sit and be able to watch some of the people that I've interviewed, like, as kids or whatever, go on and become masters and be like, I remember them when they were there.
Speaker AOh, that's going to be so cool.
Speaker AWell, that's an excellent goal.
Speaker AI love it.
Speaker AI want you to keep training hard, make sure you achieve that goal.
Speaker ANow, I've been asking all of the athletes, what does it mean to you to be an athlete that goes beyond the belt?
Speaker BTo me, being an athlete that goes beyond the belt is going beyond competition and beyond rank.
Speaker BBecause what ATA is about is like going through those life skills like discipline, having belief in yourself, having that confidence.
Speaker BAnd I feel like a lot of people that go to competitions, they forget, like, you're supposed to have that good attitude no matter what, always being kind, always cheering on everybody, no matter what.
Speaker AI love that.
Speaker AThat's fantastic.
Speaker AYou're right.
Speaker ASometimes we get into this, you know, we get to competitions and we get, we get amped up and we get excited and we forget, like, hey, this is about more than, you know, competition.
Speaker AIt's about the People that we're.
Speaker AWe're trying to become.
Speaker AAnd I can tell that you are a great example of that for ATA Nation.
Speaker AIs there.
Speaker AIs there any advice you would give to maybe a big competitor, somebody who is wanting to become a world champ or whatever, but might be, you know, a little down or maybe a little frustrated in competition or whatever?
Speaker AWhat kind of advice would you give them?
Speaker AKind of that beyond the belt advice to keep moving forward?
Speaker BI would definitely say keep pushing through because I know there are, especially as a black belt, competing and trying to be the best of the best.
Speaker BIt's definitely.
Speaker BThere's definitely going to be adversity and obstacles and just keep pushing through to overcome that.
Speaker BHave confidence in yourself, because I know it can be hard sometimes, but it definitely does get easier when you.
Speaker BWhen you win.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AYeah, exactly.
Speaker AIt takes some time, though, right?
Speaker AHave you gotten any world titles yet?
Speaker BI have not.
Speaker ANope.
Speaker ASo still working.
Speaker AI mean, like I said, I.
Speaker AYeah, I would talk to a bunch of athletes recently, and some of them have gotten them and some of them have, you know, trying year after year after year.
Speaker AAnd you, you know, it's just that perseverance and the.
Speaker AWhat you learn as you go through the journey as well.
Speaker AAwesome.
Speaker AWell, Ms.
Speaker AAddison, I really appreciate your time today.
Speaker AI know you've got a.
Speaker AAre you off to spring break?
Speaker AIs that what I hear?
Speaker BYes.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAwesome.
Speaker AWhere are you guys going?
Speaker AAnywhere fun for spring break?
Speaker BOh, we are.
Speaker BWe're going on a cruise.
Speaker BA Mexican Riviera cruise.
Speaker BOh.
Speaker AOh, that sounds great.
Speaker AWell, you'll have to do some, you know, like, forms on the deck, you know, making sure you're.
Speaker AYou're doing some.
Speaker ASome.
Speaker AA little bit of training while you're out on the cruise.
Speaker BYep, definitely.
Speaker AExcellent.
Speaker AAnd then will we see you at spring nationals in Texas?
Speaker BI will be there.
Speaker AExcellent.
Speaker AWell, we want to thank you for your time and thank you for inspiring ATA Nation with just your example and your competition.
Speaker AWe really appreciate it.
Speaker BThank you so much.
Speaker AI'm telling you, so awesome to hear from these athletes all over the place.
Speaker AI'm excited to meet a bunch of these athletes.
Speaker AI've only met them as we've interviewed online, and I'm going to be out as spring nationals in just a couple of weeks.
Speaker AI get to see some of these awesome athletes in person.
Speaker ANow I just got, like, moments before started recording this episode, I got an email from ATA headquarters.
Speaker AAnd I don't know if you guys have seen this or heard this, so I want to pass it along.
Speaker ANow.
Speaker AThis is only going to work for you.
Speaker AIf you are hearing this live and if you're not hearing this when it comes out, you need to make sure that you hit the subscribe button on YouTube.
Speaker AFor ATA martial arts, you need to hit this subscribe on your podcast player, whether it's Spotify, whatever.
Speaker AFor ATA Nation podcast, you do not want to miss those.
Speaker ABut this was just announced.
Speaker AThey are doing a test extension of late registration or Spring Nationals.
Speaker AUsually late registration ends and then you cannot register again until you get on site.
Speaker AOkay, so this is brand new.
Speaker AIt's a test to see.
Speaker ABut if you haven't registered for Fall National.
Speaker AExcuse me, for Spring Nationals yet, you need to try and get registered before you go.
Speaker AYou will save some money.
Speaker AOkay, so late registration will reopen at the standard late registration rate, not the on site price level.
Speaker ASo you're going to save money.
Speaker AOkay, this is just a trial.
Speaker AIt says right now this is only available for Spring national, so don't count on this later on.
Speaker AIf you late register on ATA easy sign up, which you can do right now.
Speaker AAnd I think it says you can do that up until like I think it says even like the 14th of April.
Speaker ADon't, don't quote me on that.
Speaker AYou might need to go over and head out and check that out just in case because I don't want to.
Speaker AI don't want you to come and yell at me.
Speaker AIf you didn't get your late registration done on time now, you probably should have just registered, you know, on time, but I know sometimes you don't know.
Speaker ASo this, this test of late registration is open until Monday, April 14th at noon Central Time.
Speaker AMonday, April 14th at noon central time.
Speaker AThat's like right up until it.
Speaker AThat's, that's pretty awesome, guys.
Speaker AThat's pretty amazing.
Speaker AOkay, so now what you'll need to know though is that your ring assignments will not be posted online for late registration because this is past the time they can put all that in.
Speaker AAnd you'll have to pick up your competition and judging assignments at the ATA help desk when you get there to Fort Worth.
Speaker AThey're still going to be doing on site registration, but black belts who register online will receive half points and there's a $50 registration fee extra on top of late registration stuff.
Speaker ASo just be aware of that.
Speaker ACheck this out.
Speaker AIf you are, you know, you weren't sure you're going to go to Fort Worth, but now you're like, I need to go.
Speaker AI need a couple extra points.
Speaker AIt's a good weekend.
Speaker AI can go do it get that early?
Speaker ANot early, late, late registration.
Speaker ABut still, you're going to save money over being on site registration.
Speaker ASo I'm going to encourage you to do that.
Speaker AI just got that email.
Speaker AI wanted to bring that information out to you guys.
Speaker AThat's going to take care of it for today.
Speaker AMs.
Speaker AAddison Payne, thank you so much for being an awesome guest.
Speaker AAwesome interview.
