Speaker:your erection and also your mood. I'm Dr Anne Truong. I've
Speaker:treated over 7000 men with ED.
Speaker:All right, let's dive into it. Sleep is something important
Speaker:that we do every day, but yet we take it for granted how
Speaker:important it is to our life. Sleep is essential for our
Speaker:attention, but it's also essential for your sex life. By
Speaker:the end of this video, you're gonna know why men get morning
Speaker:wood, I talked about in my last video here, and that sleep
Speaker:duration and quality affect your testosterone and also your blood
Speaker:flow health as well, and how not having good sleep, like sleep
Speaker:apnea, can contribute to your ED. So what happened to your
Speaker:erection during a sleep? At my last video, I talked about how a
Speaker:man can get three to five nighttime and morning erection
Speaker:during sleep, particularly at rapid eye movement, right? And
Speaker:it can last for about 20 minutes or even 30 minutes or even 40
Speaker:minutes as well. So key point here is that when you are in
Speaker:rapid eye movement or REM sleep, you actually feel more relaxed,
Speaker:and therefore you put a break on your erection. You don't have
Speaker:that stress factor like something called epinephrine.
Speaker:Number two, your relaxation nerve, which is parasympathetic,
Speaker:which parasympathetic mean erection, and nitric oxide
Speaker:increases during REM sleep, and therefore allow the blood to
Speaker:fill in the penis. And then number three, and that when
Speaker:you're sleeping, is mother nature, way of exercising your
Speaker:penis, making sure that you have enough oxygen so that way your
Speaker:penis doesn't become scarred down. So that's the three
Speaker:important thing.
Speaker:The next part is that, why do you have erection in the first
Speaker:place? Erection when you're sleeping is mother nature's way
Speaker:of stretching, bringing more blood flow and allowing you to
Speaker:kind of exercise the penis while you sleep, but it's only
Speaker:critical when you are in good quality sleep, which is rapid
Speaker:eye movement, which is when you dreaming. Know most of the time
Speaker:you don't know that you're dreaming at all, but you'll know
Speaker:that your dream or sometime when you wake up, you will have that
Speaker:kind of like peaceful feeling.

Speaker:But do you know that good quality sleep, which is about
Speaker:seven hours of sleep with multiple episode REM actually
Speaker:increases your testosterone, and then it will also help increase
Speaker:nitric oxide, which then increases blood flow, which then
Speaker:help with daytime erection. But not only that, it will also help
Speaker:with your mood, decreasing depression and decreasing
Speaker:anxiety. Studies have shown that if you have less than five to
Speaker:six hours of sleep per night, several nights in a row, it will
Speaker:actually reduce your testosterone level in healthy
Speaker:men. And that if this is repeated over a period of time
Speaker:where you're not getting good sleep, you're going to have
Speaker:lower sex drive or libido, fatigue during the day, as well
Speaker:as reduce morning erection. So chronic sleep deprivation not
Speaker:only contribute to ED but will also contribute to your sex
Speaker:drive and also your mood as well too. That's something to
Speaker:remember, guys. So how long is long? The study shows that if
Speaker:you go for a week that you're not getting good sleep, that
Speaker:will start affecting your erection as well as your
Speaker:Now let's talk a little bit about sleep apnea. Sleep apnea
Speaker:testosterone.
Speaker:is the condition where you have excessive snoring, sometimes
Speaker:you're not getting a lot of oxygen into your nose or your
Speaker:mouth, and it affects your brain. Well, if you have sleep
Speaker:apnea, decreases oxygen, it will also increase sympathetic
Speaker:activity, which then inhibit erection, and then also cause
Speaker:kind of, so what we call oxidative stress, or kind of
Speaker:like inflammation stage. But the bottom line is that sleep apnea
Speaker:will actually affect the inflammation of the lining of
Speaker:the blood vessel, causing decreased blood flow, reduces
Speaker:nitric oxide synthesis and also decrease your sex drive as well.
Speaker:So very, very important, short sleep duration and poor sleep
Speaker:quality is associated with ED because it lowers your
Speaker:testosterone, increases inflammation and decreases blood
Speaker:flow and your mood. So if you're noticing decreased morning
Speaker:erection and you're also noticing decreased sex drive,
Speaker:then you need to look at your sleep quality, all right. So how
Speaker:do you know? Sometimes you can go to get a sleep study. Ask
Speaker:your doctor to order a sleep study test for you. Now you can
Speaker:even get to sleep study at home, you will put the monitor on, and
Speaker:it will monitor the quality of your sleep to determine how
Speaker:you're sleeping, as well as determine whether you have sleep
Speaker:apnea.
Speaker:Okay, Modern Man. If you're struggling with weak erection,

Speaker:function during the day, your alertness, your productivity. So
Speaker:you're starting to feel, and you're feeling fatigued, you're
Speaker:feeling low libido, and your erection is not as good as it
Speaker:used to be, and your mood's not as good you used to be. Then you
Speaker:need to get your sleep study test, and you'll know if you're
Speaker:having frequency of morning erection, whether it's decrease
Speaker:or not, as well, because that's another indicator as well. So
Speaker:prioritize your sleep. Get a seven hours of sleep, good
Speaker:quality sleep. Go to bed on early schedule. I recommend
Speaker:going to bed no later than 11 o'clock and decrease your screen
Speaker:exposure on the phone two hours before you go to bed. Don't take
Speaker:caffeine more than past 6pm before your bedtime. And also
Speaker:alcohol, believe it or not, will also affect your sleep quality
Speaker:as well too. Unfortunately, you drink alcohol most of the time
Speaker:at night. But alcohol do affect sleep quality. Believe me, I
Speaker:like my wine too, and I will feel it sometimes when I go to
Speaker:my wine dinner party as well. So the bottom line is, erection is
Speaker:not just about arousal or blood flow at all. It affects your
Speaker:mood, affects your testosterone affects your energy level. It
Speaker:will also affect your productivity. It will affect
Speaker:even daytime. So it's not just about erection alone. So get
Speaker:that good sleep quality, if not get a sleep study test.
