If you've ever told yourself, I just need to push a little harder right now, especially around the new year, or if you're feeling cash. Tightness right now. I want you to pause with me for a second because here's the truth. No one says out loud, you are not running an oxygen factory. Nobody is going to stop breathing if you don't send an email today if nobody is refreshing your LinkedIn waiting for you to see.
If you posted hear me when I say this. You do not need to grind. Through your life to prove you are serious about your business. And here's the part that might surprise you. Hustling harder is actually the slowest way to make money now. Welcome back. My name is Renee Hribar, your sales strategist TEDx.
Speaker and author, and this is Selling Your Expertise podcast. It is Monday, January 12th, and if you're hearing this right now, thank you. I'm so glad that you're here. Please make sure that you subscribe and if you like this, make sure you leave a review. It really helps more women. See and hear this podcast.
So let's talk about this. It's January. There's a lot of shame around a lot of what's happening in the clients that I work with's lives because they have, they're, they have a thousand things that are pulling at them. Many of them have children or are caregivers. And so January restarts a whole new calendar, a whole new clock, a whole new structure.
And that time between the holidays, it gets a little bit wishy-washy. Things change. And if you're living in the Northern Hemisphere, it gets. Dark. And I know that, you know, it gets a little bit lighter every day right now, but goodness, I still feel like, especially here in Michigan. Oh wow. It is a gray day and a dark night, and it can be really challenging to get motivated to get going again.
And then we put pressure on ourselves because it's been so long. It's kinda like going to the gym, right? Like, oh, it's been so long, I, I can't go now. If I went now, I'd have. To do, do, do, fill in the blank of whatever BS we tell ourselves. But if you're like me, you just go, go back, walk around, walk the track, get on the treadmill, lift a few weights.
You know the way. It's not that hard, and you find a fun class you like, you get back involved. All of a sudden you're going three times a week and you're loving it, making new friends feeling good about yourself. That's how it works for this too. It's just like that. So I wanna encourage you here because a lot of people think momentum in business comes from never stopping.
It doesn't. Momentum comes from clarity, not exhaustion. I've disappeared from my list for weeks before. No apology email, no dramatic explanation. I just came back and you know what happened. Nothing, no angry emails, no mass unsubscribes, no where have you been? Pitchfork, mob. You know what I mean? Like don't, don't, don't.
The people who are on my email list, or you even Right. Listening to this podcast, if I didn't record a podcast for a couple weeks, would you? Bring out your pitchfork on me. No, you'd probably wouldn't even notice. You're living your own life, right? That's how they are too. So you don't need permission to rest or pause.
But if you need permission to restart without shame, this is it. So let's talk about the other side of this for a second, because I really want that to sit in with you is restarting. You don't need permission to restart. You can just restart. But the other side of this is the, the part that we've been ignoring a little bit.
When we restart, what do we do? What does starting look like? Because if you need cash flow. The answer is not a website redesign or I know I know all, and I'm not, if you're a web designer listening to this, of course, yes, you want people to do their website redesigns, but they are not in a cash flow crunch.
Um, so if you are in a cash flow crunch, the answer is not a website redesign, it is not getting new images. It is not a 47 step launch plan. Oy. I tell you, I have been in that world, and I'm telling you, there's nothing wrong with a 47 step launch plan. But if you're in a cash crunch, that's not your an that's not your next step.
You need to fund that. Yes, there is a time and a place for a website redesign and a 40 step step launch plan. 100%. I've done both of those. However, if you are in a, a cash flow crunch, those are not your next. Step. What is Renee? Oh, I'm so glad you asked. The answer is usually a direct message, one honest email.
One honest, direct message. I know, I know, I know. You hate me for saying it. Everyone says it sounds so simple. It's, it's simple because revenue loves clarity and honestly, it hates Canva. I, I love Canva, but not on a day when there's a cash flow crunch. So I, let me give you an example. I was talking to somebody recently, service-based business, solid reputation, great work, great testimonials.
She wasn't panicking, but she was. Uncomfortable bills were coming in. One of her client's payments was delayed and she caught herself thinking, I guess I need to hustle. And that's actually how she reached out to me. She's like, I need to get going. And she was, again, not panicking, but like, I need to start selling.
So, okay. I'm glad that she called. I'm glad that we ended up working together because instead of spinning up something new, we stripped everything way down. One offer, one email, and we made it really easy for people to make one decision, so she sent a simple message to her email list and a few dms to people who had bought VIP days from her over the past year.
Which was like, I think 18 people. So it was a lot of people, and she just wrote this, ready, if you wanna swipe this, swipe it. This is your chance, grab it. This is what she sent. You might notice a pattern. Sounds like three sentences that I've shared before in other episodes, as the year kicks off, I'm opening three private sessions for a $197.
Flash sale through Friday. Make sure your Google business profile is sharing your business to your clients before your competition. Click the link to secure the spot and you get 65 days to use it. That's it. I think she just did a stripe link. I don't even think she did a full order form. There's no automation behind it.
It was literally that easy. It's time bound and specific. I really want you to look at what she just shared. It's time bound and specific the way offers need to be to get accepted. That was it. No rebrand, no. No explaining her life story and why she might not have emailed or published any content in the past month or so.
She booked spots within days, not because it was clever, but because it was easy to say yes to. It was clear. Now her clients have physical businesses. That's why she's starting with Google Business profile. She owns a marketing agency. She has like very small right, three subcontractors. But the point is that she could redesign their website, she could do their ads, she could on Meta and Google, she could create an AI agent for them.
She could create a whole workflow for, she could do a lot of things and will most likely, but she's got to get them back into the fold again. Otherwise, she's just posting and praying out into the, into the ether. And so that's what I'm a big believer in. Get people. In the door for one thing. I mean like take a page out of like Best Buy on Black Friday in the whatever, the early two thousands, right?
Like come in, get the big screen TV for $77, and then people line up around the door, but they're already in there. Maybe they don't get the $77 tv. Maybe it's sold out before they get into the store, but hey, they're already here. Well, I'll buy these AirPods or I'll buy them. I don't even know if AirPods are out yet.
But the point is, is that that whole theory, it's all working on the same theory we're working on, which is human psychology. We know we need something. Make it easy for me. Please make it compelling, time bound and specific. So here's the part I really want you to hear. This works in January. It also works in May.
It also works in October. Anytime you can rest. And make money. You can pause and restart. You can take time off and come back like nothing happened because nothing did. You don't owe anybody anything. Of course, you're paying clients are a whole nother story. I'm talking about the potential leads and clients you have out there that are.
In your world, they're your followers. They're on your email list. They know your name, they've heard your voice, right? So if you've been feeling like you're behind or you're tired, I mean, hello. Right? It again, I feel like I'm so tired every day at like 4:00 PM 'cause it gets freaking dark out. Or at least it's about to.
I mean, Michigan is so tiring. It's so gray. I'm sorry. I'm dogging on Michigan, not Michigan. Didn't do anything wrong. It just doesn't have any sunshine in the winter. All right. But if you're feeling behind or tired, okay. Or like you missed some invisible deadline. You didn't, you didn't, you were allowed to stop.
You're allowed to simplify. You're allowed to make money without burning yourself to the ground. And if you want more support or ideas or simple ways to move forward this week, just ask me coach.com. Yeah, that's right. A-S-K-M-E-C-O-A-C h.com. Yeah, that's where all the fastest free, cool goodies are. And of course, I also have ways to work together, and those are always gonna be there.
They change all the time. I rotate them. They're fabulous. It's like a little front window if my business was on Main Street, so I'm so glad that you're here. Thank you for listening. Let's make this easy set. Go back, rewind, play that three sentence outreach that my client sent and get restarted. Here's your permission.
Have a great one.
