Let's go, hey there party people. Welcome to another episode of Mind Power Meets Mystic. I'm Cinthia Varkevisser, your resident mystic, my good pal and podcast partner, Michelle Walters, is off today because she wanted me to be able to share my experience with you directly. Now, what's this experience? A ghost experience. It started off right before the holidays 2025 I got a random phone call from a nice, wonderful human being and a friend of mine. Her name is Carol Mayer. She once owned a sweet little store in Benicia, California called Angel Heart for you. She has recently retired and enjoying life anyway, she called me up and said, Hey, Cinthia, my nephew is the editor of The Rockridge news, a neighborhood paper. They want to explore the validity of a ghost and one of the buildings, and they're having a hard time finding a neighborhood psychic, which cracks me up and makes sense, because the Rockridge neighborhood encompasses parts of Oakland and Berkeley, especially the business Part and their upscale, trendy stores, cool bars, great restaurants. Some of them, I think, are even Michelin rated. That's the kind of place it is. So yeah, they were having a hard time finding a neighborhood mystic, but I do remember she said that you live there, and I did. I lived there for almost 20 years, it's an amazing place to to raise your kids and just it's the walkability is amazing. Anyway, I jumped on it because it was a full circle moment for me. I started my career in Rockridge, super tentative, and now I get to go in returning to Rockridge as an expert in this area, so I already knew it was going to be special. I connected with her nephew, and we created a group chat so that I could meet the owner. Now, the building itself is really cool. It's now called the Rick R, I C, which is Rock Ridge improvement club. When I lived there, it was called ye olde hut. One of my neighbors used to call it the butt. And the reason she would call it that is, it was a dive bar intentionally for decades. But the building itself started off as a temperance building, a community building, which I didn't know until I spoke with the journalist, with Liam and Scott the owner. Now, Scott is amazing. He's open to experiences. He was admittedly skeptical, but not closed off, not closed minded. So we decided to to have a ghost experience. They wanted to have it at midnight. And I was like, Ah, fuck. It's going to be a seance. They're going to call it a seance. And that's not anything that I do. Truth is, it's very practical. This place is a bar, and they closed a little bit early so that we could go ahead and do an experience. Now, the reason I want to share it, besides that it was a full circle moment, is that this building gave me all the different types of energy that I could have ever wished for in experiencing at one place, and we ended up, it started as a group of three, and then we all invited certain people. I invited Judy because she helps me with House healings. So it makes sense. Dee wanted to come along because, you know, FOMO, right? A. Scott brought, had some people there from his work, and Liam brought a couple people who had had experiences and wanted to share them and see if it really was a ghost. So here's what we had. We had misaligned energy. The Rick bought out a small little space that's part of the original building, but it had two completely different energies. So you got to feel the disparity between the two. There was some kind of funky stuff going on in certain areas in the building, which felt not nefarious, but definitely like there was some some not so cool stuff going on, but not horrible, right? And then we had a mini vortex type of thing going on, which you'll hear in the stitch of the upcoming conversation that I had with Liam. Now I wanted to have a full episode with Liam, but we are storytellers, and we are Oaklanders. So we spoke about so many things that I had to cut it down, just that we could talk about the lady of the RIC. I have that in air quotes. So just spoiler alert, yes, there is an entity there. I don't know her name, but I love her, and the reason that I love her so much is that she feels like she came from the 1930s was not really thrilled with, I'm not going to say she was a teetotaler, but not really thrilled with alcohol, and not really the alcohol, but the fact that it, you know, it removes inhibitions, and people are not appropriate. When that happens, she was very organized, and she's a bit Stern, because she is very demanding of how this place feels. Now that's for me to tell you, that when I encounter an entity that people call ghosts, we have three options. We can have the entity stay that's the entity's choice. The entity can air out grievances with me, and we can come up to a solution that I will call it a rehoming, but it's a move where the entity goes to a different place, where it feels more comfortable, or the entity is portaled because they are ready to move on into a different energetic vibration. And again, it's all up to the entity, and you'll find from this conversation with Liam, our true experience of what happened and in the solution. All right, I like to think of it as this huge success story in my little neighborhood of Rock Ridge, California. Even though I don't live there anymore, it is very near and dear to my heart, and I will always, always have a specialness there. So if you're ever in Oakland, College Avenue, hit the Rick, you'll be able to meet the ghost, play some games, drink some cocktails, and unless Scott decides that he wants to do a clearing, I mean, it's up to him, right? And healing, because the place feels fine. It's just, you know, got some inconsistencies. You get to experience all these things while being a regular human being and not being part of a ghost group.

Hello, listeners. You have been listening to this fine episode of Mind Power Meets Mystic and Cinthia and I have a few things we wanted to share.

Cinthia, well, I've got a couple of crazy, cool things that come up every month, and one is called strategic intuition for greater business success. This is great for people who want to use their intuition for a better communication with their families, their companies and community. And that's on third Thursdays. These are all virtual, and the other one I have is called the prosperity flow. Shift your space, shift your life. And that's on First Fridays has everything to do with your home and any other space that you want to make more vibrant. So that's what I've got going on. What do you have going on? My friend,

I have two different kinds of events I do every month. One I've been doing for years now. It's called nourish and flourish. Nourish and flourish is a online hypnosis experience, and it is always on a Friday and always at noon. Pacific. Usually it's the second Friday, but it floats around, so the best way to find the date for it is to go to the classes page on my website. There's a link there, and you can either use it to just. Please jump in, or you can go over to Eventbrite and sign up. The second event that I've started hosting this year is some marketing events. I have two different talks that I give for small businesses who want to learn more about how to do great in their marketing. And those dates and the classes are also available on my classes page. All of these that we're talking about are free, good listener, and we would love to have a chance to meet you and welcome you to one of our events. So for me, check the classes page and Cinthia, where can people find the details about your events

that is also on my website and the classes page, but let's make sure that we'll have them in the show notes, so that it's even easier for our listeners.

Love it back to the show. So

thank you so much. And enjoy my conversation with Liam, the journalist and editor of The Rockridge news. So let's get to the experience. Sure, the because, to to me, the the bar is fascinating. Yeah, it's fascinating on so many levels, but on an energetic level, it was amazing.

Yeah, you, I mean, you just feel it when you come in. I had some prejudices going into this job as the editor. And was like, Oh, great, I'm going to be at all these snobby tech bars the entire time. And you walk in and it's just like games and, you know, karaoke night and, you know, fun options at the bar, and, like, lounge seats on the side. It's, it's really cool. It kind of feels like there's a little something for everyone. And they, they make sure that they mix up different events to keep it lively,

right, right? So I come on in. I was the last one to show up. We were the last ones to show up, and and we talked about the different energies, right? That there are different energies, and we picking up. We pick them up in different ways, and how we are sensitive beings, but we all have different kinds of sensitivities, like you, for instance, your sensitivities come through your feet, right? And so, yeah, and so your feet, you know how you talked about you don't like your feet being touched. And it totally makes sense to me, if that is, you know where you, where you gather all your information, right? So when we talked, what I invited everyone to do and stop me, if I, if I am misrepresenting our experience is, I had every we talked about a death that happened outside the bar, right outside the bar. We talked about a death that happened inside the bar. And then we talked about, were there any other energies or entities, right? And so we talked about, it could be a guide or guardian angel. It could be akin accumulation of energy. It could be a bunch of different things, and it could be a ghost, yeah, right. So the 10 of us, I think there were 10 of us, right?

Yeah, roughly some something I liked. By the way, when you started up, you're basically like, All right, guys, this is not a seance. I'm not going to go, woo and then like a ghost will appear. I really like that you did that because I think that people went in with very open minds. No one really had an idea of specifically what it was. And we told everyone very specifically, like, this is not a seance, but it's going to be an experience, right? And that that made it open to everyone to participate and have their own conversation with the space,

right, right? And so what we did is we, if everybody is curious about the person we're going to talk about that there was a gentleman who passed away in his drinking chair.

Yeah, right. So I'm going to about to find out, you know, maybe a little bit more of that story. And the friend, apparently, is very reserved. So it's going to be an interesting kind of interview where I have to kind of match energy with him and make sure that he's telling it on his terms if he wants

to, right?

But yeah, so that that was one of the things. And so we were curious if that pertained to, that pertained to the chair moving. But it seems like we found or you found something else entirely, right?

And so what we did is I invited everybody to to go around the whole building and check it out, and using their body as a barometer, where they felt different things happening in different spaces, and you could feel a whole bunch of unevenness, which is typical, especially in an older building. Especially if it hadn't been cleared, right? So there were dense energies. There are places where people felt like headaches or they just wanted to get the heck out of the the space, there was, you know, a lightness, and in one corner, once one part, it was unanimous that there was a ghost there, and the ghost is female, yeah, I didn't get her name, but she it was really interesting to to talk about the ghost. But before we get to the ghost, we also encountered different energies from accumulation. We encountered like a mini vortex. I'm putting air quotes around that, because there was the, the energy line in the earth. There's a there's a disharmony, I guess, for lack of better words between that and what's going on in the in the space. So if you hit one space, you feel, you actually felt it like you're on a roller coaster, right?

Yeah, yeah. It felt like it was almost on like a mining cart or something like that. What I So, what I experienced, I was joking with the Katie, the woman who was very skeptical later. I was like, seems like your your butthole was too tight. Maybe trigger warning for that. And I was like, Yeah, I just decided to loosen my body up and try and see if I've felt anything, and kind of follow those instincts. And that was, that was the best way I could kind of mentally prepare myself. And it's funny, because I, you know, I can be of two minds. One was like, I was feeling exactly that while I was feeling it. And then I can also be like, Oh, these are, like, the reasons why I went to these places in a rational brain. But, you know, and in that moment, for sure, I was, I was just feeling it out. And the funny thing that I was joking with my brothers, like, you know, I'm not drinking right now. And so I found my first place I went when you when you said, you told us that we should take candles and light them and put them in the spots where we feel different energies. Two people didn't put candles, my brother, Colin and Katie. But I was like, right away. I was like, I need a candle. I need to put this here. And I went to this empty space behind the bar, and my brothers are joking like, Oh, you're not drinking, and you found the empty space behind the bar. And I was like, I don't know. I just felt something there. And it felt like, when I got there, there was almost like a deep pull, like a gravity like, kind of pulling me down a little bit, but not, not in an emotional way. It was actually kind of nice. It was almost comforting. And then from there, I felt this weird diagonal walk, you know, in a direction towards the front of the space where there was a fan located. And you know, my rational brain is like you were drawn to the sound of the fan, but no, at the time, I was just drawn to that, right?

Well, the nice thing about having so many people there is that we had confirmation there are other people who are also feeling similar things without, you know, having conversation. It was a very quiet experience for people to go through and do their thing, and then place their place, their candle, you know, where they felt energy. So the I'll call her the lady, the lady of of the Rick. The Lady of the Rick was, I didn't talk about it then, but she was glad. Is not the word, but it was, she was appreciative that she had been acknowledged. And we talked about the type of person that she liked in that space, and we talked to Scott about that to make sure that, hey, this is what it sounds like she likes you, because this is what you do, and you're all about business, and you're this, and you're that, and, and the part I thought was interesting is, you know, I don't know him. I just met him, and then I pulled out that, you know, I'm like, Hey, are you still writing lyrics? I had no idea that he wrote lyrics at all, and, and, you know, and then we talked about that. And so

he also sorry. He placed his candle. He almost walked immediately over there, and he told me afterwards, I got goosebumps as soon as I went into that corner. And there's a corner by a fireplace, the way back, if you're coming from the street, is the way back of the room. And yeah, it was in the left corner, and a couple, there were a couple candles there Right, like, three maybe,

yeah, I was, mine was on the other side. It was at the very corner of the bar. But she's in that same, she's in that very, you know, that very area, or that's, you know, that's where we found her, right. But what we. Found is that they are and what I said in the beginning is, when I do a healing, I talk if there's an entity, I talk to see if it can be a compatible relationship, and that if it is great, and if not, then we need to come to it. We need to have some kind of solution, especially if they don't want to be portaled, because, you know, it's not up to me. It's, you know, who am I to decide what another energy does? I just don't, you know, yeah, well, other people, other people, do it, and I understand their their viewpoint, like, that's my job, and that's, you know, that's part of the clearing for me. I it doesn't, it doesn't match my, my my energy to do that. So, yeah, it was really lovely. And and Judy talked about when we were done and we closed up and finished answering all that, you know, I finished answering all the questions that the energy of the space already felt different. So, I mean, there were still, there are still discrepancies right in between, or I don't think discrepancies is a better word, is the good word, but, you know, it's still a bit uneven. But it did. We did walk out different. We walked out with the space, different. What?

So I kind of asked you this previously. But how would you describe, sort of visually and emotionally what you're picking up from Our Lady.

When I was there, okay, so I watched the video. I didn't want to watch the video beforehand, because I didn't want to be I didn't want to be biased, right? Because, you know, we all tended to do that. So I watched it, and the energy didn't feel like the the energy of the pull of the chair didn't feel like the energy of the lady. The energy of the lady is she's no nonsense. She liked her position while she was there, when she was there, which is why she stayed there, because she felt important there and that she had say in in matters, very organized, a bit Stern, because she wanted to make sure everything ran really well, which is why she likes Scott so much. He's organized. He has a he has a system. System works for her.

Despite being a rock star, he is very tight on his books, as we found out.

Well, you know, I think he's he really, you know, you're an artist, but you're also a business person, right? That's the That's the amazing thing about being an artist, is, even if you have a business manager, you have a business, you're right? And so he runs a business, is even as a, you know, rock star, he he ran a business even with a manager, right? He was a part of this business, an integral part of a business. And now he's got this, this place. So, so I think he runs a lot of things, very organized, very tidy. And we actually talked about that. And he, he checked, and he goes, Yeah, I'm tidy guy, you know, clean guy.

And his and his employees were like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

And so, so those, that's the sense that I got it. But she, she shifted up, because there's an in that moment, there was an agreement, right? And it's when Scott said, oh, yeah, she stays. And, you know, and, and she said to him, you know, I like the way you work, you know, which I don't think was always the step that way in the hut, you know, because the hut prided itself on being a dive bar, yeah, exactly. I don't think that's the branding she wanted. Yeah.

So no, it was, I heard stories then pulling up floorboards, and the beer used to run under the floor without any piping, and like there were rats, dead rats under there before. So it was just like it was chaos, people dying in chairs of cocaine overdoses, or potentially, I don't know.

We don't know for sure. It was a cocaine overdose. It could have been a lot of stuff. It could have been incidental. I'm about to find out, hopefully. Well anyway, I we need to wrap it up. So do you have any questions of me before we wrap up? Or do you have any last thoughts? And then I'm going to ask what you got going on next?

Yeah, I guess my My other question was, you got a feeling for a time when this woman was around, and I was just curious, what you thought the use, if she gave you any indication of what the use of the building was at that time,

at that time, what I saw was, when she was organizing supplies, it didn't look like it was beer, or, you know, it didn't look like it was alcohol, but there definitely were supplies and she she didn't really move them around as much as she inventoried. So I don't feel like it was, if it was alcohol, it was, you know, it was smaller bottles. Rather than bigger bottles, right? So, so there's, there's that, and it really was about tidiness. So she would make sure that there was little dust, that everything was presentable, that you could find everything, you know, everything had its own place. She was dressed, to me, like she was in it was in the 1930s but, you know, not a huge, huge into history. So I'm not sure, and I don't know how that fits in with prohibition, but, but, you know, that's, that's where she was. She was very and she really liked being a part of the part of the neighborhood, you know, that she was a, you know, a force there.

Yeah, that's something that I found really poetic and beautiful about the experience. Because, you know, we were able to experience history at, you know, simultaneously as experiencing the present. And so I think that, you know, you go into a space, and it always has, you know, the energies that have been in it, and, like, almost, like a needle on a record, or like imprinting a record. And it's, it felt like we're listening to two different tracks at the same time,

and it was in harmony that was right. So it's, it's DJing, right? Yeah, one mix right, right into the other. So it's a it's a really cool thing. I love the space. It had so many different energies for us to experience. I can't think of a place where we could experience all those things at once. You know what I mean? And I love the group, because we had the time and the trust to to experience and talk about the the different things that we felt and, you know, to find that it was so similar. I think was was nice for everybody.

And I think it's worth noting that, you know, my journalist brain always searching for numbers. Scott just texted both of us, actually, that they have had a 15% increase in sales starting the day after our experience. So the I'm not sure if the lady was buying most of those beers for herself, but, but somebody was.

I have a theory about that. I have a theory that once they became they came into agreement, there is now a unified energy, yeah, and when there's a unified energy, there's more attraction, right? If I'm pretty clear on who I am, then people are going to come to me for the thing that I do, right? So I believe that there's, there's, you know, a unification, which means now is there's a greater attraction and a wider attraction. But just to make sure we were at the Rock Ridge improvement club, highly recommend going there. It's badass. Great time. Cool. Love it.
