Speaker AHey friends, we are going to talk about what is the growth that you want to see in your life as we step in to spring.
Speaker ANow, for many of us, we live in parts of the world where maybe it's already gotten warmer to some extent and the days are obviously getting a bit longer for many of us.
Speaker ABut actual spring starts this week with a spring equinox.
Speaker AAnd with spring, as we've already been seeing, there are buds on flowers and trees.
Speaker AThere are flowers blooming right those early flowers we can see the sign of life going from the dead of winter when things fell off or when things hibernated and it seemed kind of dreary.
Speaker AAnd now we see buds and blooms and greenery strength starting to show again, light for longer each day.
Speaker AIt is just a glorious and lovely time of year.
Speaker AAnd it's also the perfect time of year to set some intentions for the growth that you want in your life.
Speaker AJanuary is a time of year where somebody, some people make intentions, resolutions, but it's actually such a dark time of year that most of us actually don't feel that motivated to go out in the cold, the dark, when we may be getting off of work.
Speaker ABut now when winter turns to spring, when animals start mating, when the flowers are coming out, when the days are longer, it's actually a time when our energy goes up.
Speaker AIt's a time when we actually can be outside more and longer, whether that's before or after if we work in a traditional job.
Speaker AAnd so today's episode is going to be all about setting intentions and what growth, what way you'd like to expand in your own life in the coming months.
Speaker AAnd I would actually say that this is a great time.
Speaker AYou know, these three months between the beginning of spring and summer, if you want to say kind of a quarter, even though it might not be the yearly quarters, but it's the perfect time because for many of us in summer, we may have vacations planned, it may be busy because family's coming to visit, whatever it might be.
Speaker ASo this is the perfect lead up to summer to get some things done and like I said, set some intentions, set some goals for ourselves and to really be renewed and refreshed.
Speaker AAnd so we're going to talk about several ways that we can do that and really use spring to our advantage.
Speaker AOkay, so what I like to do is set three to four intentions for my personal life, and then I also set two to three goals or intentions for my business slash podcasts.
Speaker AOkay, so here are some of the questions that I ask.
Speaker AAnd I have a whole list of questions.
Speaker ASo there's different times where I pull different questions for setting intentions or sort of what direction do I want to set off on or do I want to change this spring?
Speaker ASo here are some of the questions I ask that you can grab a pen and paper and write these down, type them in your notes, or you can think about these and come up with your own question to determine what it is that you want to focus on as we step into these beautiful spring days.
Speaker AFirst question I ask myself is, where do I want to grow this spring?
Speaker AIn other words, where do I want to stretch myself, learn more about or expand my knowledge, or the time I spend on something?
Speaker AOkay, so for that one, the things that I've written down are I want to grow in God's Word.
Speaker ASo I want to keep spending more time in scripture and devotionals, and right now is actually Lent.
Speaker AAnd so I'm trying to use that time to listen to more podcasts, sermons, and different apps that just get me in God's word thinking about spending the time in prayer.
Speaker APrayer.
Speaker ASo that's one of the ways that I want to grow.
Speaker AThe second one is, you know, spring is the time that many of us start gardening.
Speaker AAnd maybe you're not a gardener.
Speaker AMaybe you are.
Speaker AThis is the time that we start planting seeds.
Speaker AYou know, we start seedlings, or maybe we even put some seeds outside.
Speaker ASo I'm.
Speaker AI've prepped all my outdoor garden beds.
Speaker AI've started seedlings, but I want to become a better gardener.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd so I have some of the basics down.
Speaker AI've had an herb garden for many, many, many years, but vegetables have been hot and cold for me.
Speaker ASome vegetables I've done great with, but other ones tend to have.
Speaker AThey're more challenging because there's different pests that really like to come and attack them or different issues that they can have.
Speaker AAnd so I have certain vegetables that I'd really like to get better at this year, whether that's knowing how to keep the pest away.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AObviously, in the acorn, I am a use organic methods or how to make sure my plants don't get a rot or attacked by something.
Speaker ASo those are two of the areas that I want to grow in.
Speaker AI want to stretch myself.
Speaker AAnd so I'm being intentional because I'm making more time in the morning to get in God's word, to have more quiet time to be in prayer.
Speaker AAnd then with the gardening, I am making sure that I'm spending a little bit of time working in the gardens or caring for the seedlings, and also just starting to learn a little bit about some of the challenges I had last year.
Speaker AOkay, so that is the first question I ask myself, and those are some of the ways that I want to grow and expand and learn more.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker AThe next question I ask myself is, where do I want to commit more time and effort in my life?
Speaker AIn other words, where do I want to put.
Speaker AWhere do I want to.
Speaker AWhat do I want to highlight and make sure that I'm being intentional in some area?
Speaker AFor me, one of the areas is movement.
Speaker AAnd so if we're being honest, in the winter, some of us, we want to kind of lounge more.
Speaker AWe.
Speaker AYou don't want to be outdoors as much.
Speaker AIt's cold.
Speaker AIt's not as fun taking a walk, you know, because it's cold weather, you have to bundle up.
Speaker AAnd then also it's dark earlier.
Speaker AAnd so all winter, I wasn't able to walk with any friends, except for maybe on weekends because it's dark by the time most people are getting off of work.
Speaker ASo movement, I'm upping my steps per day or my mileage because we we've hit spring.
Speaker ASo I did that end of February, beginning of March.
Speaker AAnd so moving more, moving my body more throughout the day and getting outside more, getting fresh air, having that quiet time and just being in the presence of God in all of his creations.
Speaker AAnd so for me, I want to commit to that.
Speaker AAnd then the other things I want to commit to are I want to spend more time writing because to be honest, when I started the podcasts, that became my priority.
Speaker AAnd I haven't spent time writing daily or even weekly.
Speaker ASo that is now on my radar for spring.
Speaker AI also want to apply for more opportunities.
Speaker AAnd when I say apply, I mean it's really submitting.
Speaker ASo reaching out to more people that could be doing collaborations, that could be submitting to speak or go to a conference or get on other podcasts, which of course I've done.
Speaker ABut I haven't really made that a priority recently.
Speaker ASo for me, that is another intention.
Speaker AAnother one is people.
Speaker AHow can I be more loving to the people in my life?
Speaker AAnd how can I continue to increase my grateful in my thankful practice?
Speaker ASo I already have a gratitude practice.
Speaker AThe question is, how do I keep upping that?
Speaker AHow do I keep adding little small things that help me remember to be grateful, to be thankful, and to stay in that presence of mind?
Speaker AOkay?
Speaker AAnd so those are the things that I want to commit more time.
Speaker AAnd then how can I be more loving?
Speaker ASo that's, how can I spend more time with my older sons?
Speaker AHow can I spend more quality time with my husband?
Speaker AHow can I spend more time showing my friends how much they mean to me?
Speaker AAnd then how can I continue to do that for my community or maybe really step into showing my community more of that?
Speaker ABecause in some ways, there's been a lot that's happened since January.
Speaker AWe've had loss in our family and in our neighborhood, and some other things have gone on.
Speaker AAnd so I've really not nurtured my email recently because it's just been a lot.
Speaker AAnd then for my business, I say, what are my top two or three goals in mine are get more support for my business, prune the things that I need to stop doing, and then focus more daily on the things that are going to have the most impact in other people's lives.
Speaker AAnd as we step into spring, I have two other questions that you can write down and ask yourself as well as you really think about what you want your spring months to look like, how you want to live in those months.
Speaker AAnd so the first question is, how do I want to feel?
Speaker AIn other words, how do I want to feel in my home?
Speaker AHow do I want to feel in a certain room that could be in your bedroom, you know, where it's a place of, hopefully, solitude and peace, where you can rest, you know, and in whatever else you know, it might be a place for intimacy and such and such.
Speaker AOr it might be, how do I want my office to feel?
Speaker AHow do I want quiet place in my house to feel?
Speaker AYou know, for time for meditation, for prayer, for just letting yourself decompress and have time with quiet.
Speaker AAnd so when you ask yourself that question, how do I want to feel in some way?
Speaker ASo that could be, how do I want to feel when I put on outfits?
Speaker AIt could be, how do I want to feel in a certain space?
Speaker AHow do I want to feel as far as my mindset, right?
Speaker ALike, what keeps getting me amped up or frustrated or anxious or irritated.
Speaker AAnd as I find that I'm.
Speaker AI'm dealing with some of those things, maybe what I want to write down is I want to feel calmer.
Speaker AI want to feel happier, I want to feel more at peace.
Speaker AAnd so you can do this for both, you know, your mindset and your thoughts, or you can do it for a physical space.
Speaker AAnd if you write down I want my I want.
Speaker AI want to feel that I have a quiet place to come home to.
Speaker AYou know, it can be a special chair, it can be an area in your bedroom, it can be a little desk area.
Speaker ABut basically, then what you want to do is, in the spring, how can you freshen it up?
Speaker AHow can you maybe take some things away to make it less cluttered and to feel calm?
Speaker AIf it's the thoughts, then for you, it would be, how can I feel calmer?
Speaker AOr how can I feel more at peace?
Speaker AAnd then it's asking that question.
Speaker AAnd it might be, what is it that's causing that angst?
Speaker AOr what is it that's causing you that chaos in your life?
Speaker AAnd is there something you can remove?
Speaker AIs there a thought that you have on repeat?
Speaker AAnd can you test it?
Speaker ACan you replace it with something that's more true?
Speaker ACan you replace it with a new Perspective.
Speaker AOkay, so that is a great question to ask any time of year, but I love it for spring because it's just this time of renewal.
Speaker AIt's a time of new growth.
Speaker AAnd so for me, it's.
Speaker AIt's really just this time for those things, for growing and for expanding ourselves.
Speaker AOkay, the last question is, who am I becoming?
Speaker AOr who do I want to become, you know, in my future?
Speaker ABut this is a perfect time to step into in small ways that who you're becoming.
Speaker ASo, for instance, I've recently just gone in the last month, I guess, shopping and gotten some.
Speaker AA couple new tops, some new dresses, things like that.
Speaker AAnd it's really because every time I would go to put stuff on, I just felt.
Speaker AIt felt drab or I didn't feel excited to get dressed, or it felt in some ways, I don't know, maybe outdated or maybe certain things just didn't fit me well or they didn't fit me right.
Speaker AThey didn't.
Speaker AThey didn't look like me.
Speaker AThey didn't either.
Speaker AThey were the wrong.
Speaker ASome things are the wrong colors for me.
Speaker AWrong shape, wrong length, because I'm not super tall person.
Speaker AAnd so once again, who am I becoming?
Speaker AWell, for me, I want to step into having more of a style that I love that I don't have to think about.
Speaker AAnd so that doesn't mean I'm going to.
Speaker AI'm currently not going to get rid of all the clothes that aren't perfect for me.
Speaker ABut one day I do hope to have a closet like that.
Speaker ASo who am I becoming?
Speaker AI want to be the person that has outfits that I can grab and I like how I look at.
Speaker ALook in them.
Speaker ANo matter if I'm exactly the size or, you know, shape I want to be, you know.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker AI'd love my arms to be a little more.
Speaker AYeah, what do you call it?
Speaker AFit.
Speaker AI'd like, you know, the armpit area to be smoother, the tummy to be smoother, whatever it is.
Speaker ABut, you know, I'm not becoming.
Speaker AI want to be a person that feels good in the clothes she wears.
Speaker AI don't want to have to think about it or try on 20 outfits and be frustrated with every one of them.
Speaker ASo who am I becoming?
Speaker AI'm becoming someone that's putting more effort into her style.
Speaker ABecause if I do that now, when I go to get ready for an event or somewhere, I'm going, I feel good in the doing it instead of waiting until the last minute and thinking, none of this is working.
Speaker AWho else am I becoming.
Speaker AI'm becoming the person that shows up in the room.
Speaker AI'm showing up in more rooms.
Speaker AI am going to be the person that takes more trips this year.
Speaker ASo guess what I'm doing?
Speaker AI'm figuring out when those things are going to happen.
Speaker AWhat events do I want to be in the room at?
Speaker AI am figuring out, who else do I want to have on the podcast?
Speaker AAm I making bold asks?
Speaker AI want to become the person that asks for the bigger names to come on the podcasts.
Speaker ASo that is who I'm becoming.
Speaker ABut if I know who I want to become, I can start taking action to become that person.
Speaker AIn other words, just because of what I did today or I did yesterday or last year doesn't define, right, how we're going to be tomorrow, next week, or next year.
Speaker ABut we have to be intentional about who do we want to become?
Speaker AIf you want to become healthier, you don't get healthier by staying the same as you were if you weren't healthy.
Speaker AIn other words, if you want to be healthier, you want to be able to be stronger and feel good in what you wear, but also know that your health numbers are good, then you need to start acting like a healthy person, right?
Speaker ASo make better choices with, you know, move a little more, eat a little, make a few better food choices every day, forego the extra dessert on occasion, that sort of thing.
Speaker AAlso, I want to become the person that always has beautiful things around me.
Speaker AAnd for me, one of those things is flowers.
Speaker ASo this year, I'm planting a lot more flowers in my garden beds or pots so that I can clip some of those and bring them inside.
Speaker AAlso, I am saying yes to myself to buy flowers when I'm at the store most every week, to put in my kitchen and in my front room and sometimes in my office, because they make me happy.
Speaker AThe colors, the smell, they just make the spaces I'm in regularly more inviting and more beautiful.
Speaker AAnd so who I'm becoming is somebody that says yes to spending a little bit of more money on the things I enjoy that make me happy when I see them.
Speaker AOkay, so that's the other thing.
Speaker ASo as we step into spring, I've given you a handful of questions to really reflect and think about.
Speaker AWhat do you want to use spring?
Speaker AWhat do you want to do in this season?
Speaker ABecause it is a beautiful time of year.
Speaker AEverything is blooming, and why wouldn't you want to bloom as well?
Speaker AAnd so that's it for today.
Speaker AThere'll be definitely a lot more episodes coming out this year after my several month hiatus and my hiatus was longer than expected.
Speaker AMy dad gotten he had Parkinson's and he had gotten sicker and sicker and I had planned to release in January, but he ended up passing away in the very beginning of February.
Speaker AAnd so we've really been walking through his illness and then his loss and then we've had some loss friend in the neighborhood and some other things going on.
Speaker AAnd so with running another podcast and doing other projects, I just didn't have the bandwidth to be honest with you to re release Building a life you love and so I'm back.
