Welcome back to another edition of health hack. And this week I'm going to be talking to about supplements and supplementation. And of course, there's a lot of people out there who will say supplements and aren't necessary, you can get everything that you need through your food. And ideally, it would be wonderful if we could get everything that we need through our food. However, due to our the advent of the Industrial Revolution, and take take take from the soil, we now have nutrient depleted soil systems. And I'm sharing this slide with you now, just showing how much our key minerals have been depleted in our soils. In the last 120 years, this goes back to 1910 on the chart, right up to 2006, I actually couldn't find anything more recent than that in a short amount of time to share with you. But this one is from the US Department of Agriculture. And it's showing that we have weaker plants 16% less calcium 9%, less phosphorus 15%, less iron 38%, less vitamin B, two, and 20% less calcium over that time, because the soils aren't being allowed to settle and rest and rejuvenate. We just keep planting crop after crop after crop in order to try and feed the entire world. And as a result, the new nutrients we are getting are less effective. And here's the thing, we have so much chronic illness in the world today. And there's two key reasons for the chronic illness that we have. One of them is our high toxic load, which I'm always talking about and the toxins that get into our body. And the other is our nutrient deficiencies. Because when we are deficient in our vitamins and minerals, our body is not able to thrive and function at an optimal level, it is depleted. And when it is depleted, it is operating from a place of being behind a ball so the immune system isn't functioning as well as it could be and should be among all of our other organs. And that's when dis ease of the body is allowed to set in. So yes, there are people that say if you take supplements, you're just paying them out. And that can be true, because the other tricky thing about supplementation is the quality of the supplement you are taking. And there are many companies that are making supplements, the pharmaceutical industry included under different brand names. And their purpose of making this is simply profit. So they are using the cheapest form of the ingredient, they are putting in the smallest amount of the ingredients. So there's not even enough of that ingredient in there for your body to do anything with. But they're allowed to write that ingredient on the label. And we're using when they're using the cheapest form, it may be that it's not a good bio available form for your body, meaning your body can't absorb it well. And so it is a matter of finding labels that you trust and looking at the functional medicine side the holistic side of health to find products that have been made and formulated by naturopathic doctors by functional medicine doctors who do care about your ability to heal and that your body is getting the nutrients that it needs in order to thrive. And so if you need help with that, please reach out because I have a long list of supplement companies that I trust, some of whom I know the formulators that I use myself and I do not buy supplements at local grocery stores, local pharmacies, Costco because those ones I don't know who's formulating them. And when I look at the labels, I know enough to realize they are using cheap products, therefore it's not the quality I want. And I don't buy them. So stay tuned this week because I will continue talking about supplements and the types of supplements you want to be looking for. Because you don't want to just start taking a high level supplement if you haven't even got a foundational level in yet. So come back.
