Emanuele Pani (00:00.952)
So in episode four, I told you discipline is self-love. I told you it's the bridge between who you are and who you want to become. And now we're gonna talk about where my understanding of discipline
Actually came from. Welcome to CO Mindset. I'm Emanuele Pani. My friends call me E. Let's get into it. So we welcome back, Luca Pani. Thank you, my son. It's a pleasure. Pillar two, which is which is discipline. Before we get into discipline, we get to spend a lot of time together. We get to talk and philosophy quite a bit. Any
Anything that you want to share that you've thought about since we recorded the last episode, any realizations? Because similar to how my mind works, I see you kind of ruminating on things and thoughts. So anything that you wanna tell the listeners that you thought about since our last conversation? Well, the the
That the ability or the or the illness to to ruminate derives on the on the fundamental of observation. So if you are curious enough and and humble enough, maybe humble before curiousness, to be in the fabric of life as we all are, and observe what is going on around you, you always have occasions for
Some thought. And then to share this thought, and it's what you you rightly so called philosophizing. And if you have the luxury and and the luck of having someone, a relationship, or anybody, even now with all our friends here, to have a conversation on this, you will see how your
Emanuele Pani (02:14.751)
minds brings you because we are creature, creatures of communication and and combined communication and cooperation through communication. So that that is so so important. And I was thinking exactly this the the the other day of when you know as you know I wrote more than seven hundred editorials, small stories and sometimes I get
followers a question, how did you get this, the idea, how this came from? And by just walking. I mean, I was walking on the beach and I heard somebody that says is this is this circle of life. I s I heard this in Italian, you know, as a circle of life. Things go, come and go. And then I started thinking, and it was by passing a stranger, never, never saw in my life. And I started, hmm. I said, hmm, actually yes, what what is that?
Through about this, what what what can I get out of this? And and think about the specifics of of our conversation here. First of all, the concept of these six pillars, maybe we we will cover it and we have alluded to this again already, they come in no particular order. So you you you choose them in this
Sequence, which is perfectly fine, is the one you feel so generosity now now discipline. And and they come in no particular order also to the individual. And this is immediately linked to discipline. Some pillars could be easier, almost natural for some of us, and some might be extremely difficult to the point that you might not be able to achieve it ever. So your path to
enlightenment will be frozen in time un until you achieve them all and more than those. And and and discipline in particular is interesting because it it goes across all of
Emanuele Pani (04:30.143)
Yeah. It's funny because before we decided to do this, I decided to do a show about discipline. And I love to share the the writing. So the way that Dad has shared his six pillars with me, there is six writings. So if you follow me on Instagram when I post the show on Monday on my story, I'll post a picture of the actual writing. And so then you can see it and read it. But I'm gonna read you guys a little piece from it.
Talent alone navigates nowhere. A disciplined mind thrives in joy. Its counterpart wallows in needless suffering. The fiercest battle is against oneself. Find your motivation. They reside together with discipline.
Yep. So tell me about it.
Tal talent I might say something counterintuitive, but talent is really the worst enemy of discipline. Hm. Why is that? And because you might think, you know, what are you talking about? I have I have talent, I can easily achieve you know, whatever I want. I'm I'm I'm talented in writing, I'm talented in sculpture, I'm I'm music, I'm talented in talking to people, playing a guitar, whatever you. Your it's your natural talent I'm speaking.
speaking languages. And then the next the next natural thought would be, but then I don't need to practice. I don't need to evolve a a better level of my talent because by definition talent is what becomes natural to me. So I'm already talented. Very wrong.
Emanuele Pani (06:23.127)
the the the achiev the full achievement of your talent is through discipline. But most importantly, discipline will allow you to tap into things you're not talented for and make them a powerful weapon in the way you develop as as a human being. You're some example. well there are there are
Many examples I can I can draw from my own personal life. When I was studying medicine, there were some subjects they were much eas came much easier for for me. And thank God there was basically in the beginning basic science was was very strong with me. So molecular biology, chemistry, even even you know biochemistry and anatomy, things that for some people might be very hard.
came natural. So I was very disciplined and although I had the talent to remember this thing, I was very disciplined and I and I would develop a method. We would discuss about this because discipline and methods are are linked. So make a note that we need to go into that because that's that's very important. Because method is the mean by which discipline becomes something that you can measure. And and so in the first
four or five years you know of studying medicine in Italy six years, I had perfectionated this. And then this this subject came and was hygiene and and public health think about you know which is part of the medicine curriculum so how do you of course public health is so but also how do you dispose of of
of trash, of of radioactive materials, of the the health in the in in the working place, all all the things related to the hygienization of water, the chlorinization, the things that you know that is medical doctors are doing act. I said, this is so boring. This I'm never gonna pass. They w they will they will you know, I I cannot you know bring myself to to have the discipline, but I had the discipline because I had a
Emanuele Pani (08:45.537)
built it with things that I love. So by applying the methods, you know, six weeks later I I finished the exams, flying callers. It was an and it was the first time, I was 22, 23, that I had a clear perception of what discipline can do for you if you if you do something for her or for it, whatever. It's so that
Then stay with me always. I try to be disciplined in everything you do. You might, you might consider that you need to have a little trait of obsessive compulsive ness. but in general, if you have a little trait of everything, it's very useful. and so and you put it to to work for you. That's what discipline, my experience, my first experience with discipline was, many, many years ago.
So that reminded me of the quote from Mike Tyson, which says discipline is doing what you hate by doing it like you you love it. And as you're talking, and even in your quote, right, you say
Discipline, a disciplined mind tries in joy. And you can hear this element of joy and satisfaction as you're recalling this story. And also that it's very contrarian to the general population, the world's view of discipline. A lot of people define discipline, discipline is suffering. And some of the stuff that I talked about on episode four around discipline being self-love is that.
The people that disciplined us when we were younger did so because they loved us. And I can see this now. We're here with my little sister, her name is Tati, she's twelve, and my
Emanuele Pani (10:51.818)
instincts of being more disciplined or less disciplined come from a place of love. Right? Like around in the kitchen, helping her understand how to do things well the way I was taught how to do things well comes from a place of love. And so that's super important. And so
How do you reconcile that? How do you reconcile most people feeling that discipline is suffering? so the the it's exactly opposite of of suffering. And and the and the reason for this is is due to the fact that what s suffering is a part of life. That's nothing to do with discipline. Or we we never we never we should never approach life.
Like there is no suffering. Suffering is a part of life, is within the fabric of life, but suffering can be overcome. That's another story. You never say there is no suffering. There is suffering, and I will you know overcome suffering until the next next cycle. Discipline allows you exactly that, because what discipline really does, it moves the attention.
Think about it, on the task at hand. That's what you are disciplined for. You are doing exactly this. So discipline brings about immediately, you know, a hierarchy of things to do. You got this and then this and then this and then this. How to do them? So again, you see, I'm I'm always leaning on that method. How to do that. until when?
With what results? How do I measure that? Disciplines always brings follow-up. Something that most people forget. Are you you're doing you are that means that I'm doing this to achieve this result. Okay? Mm-hmm. Did I achieve it? Did I actually get this result? yeah, sure. Did you check? Did you measure? Okay. You said that by let's say one thing that afflicts a lot of people, diet.
Emanuele Pani (13:09.406)
I need to I've been disciplined with my little things, as we said many times. food, intake, physical activity, sleep. These three things. And you know, I need medicine. Yeah, well whatever. You eventually will need medicine if some and I'm a doctor, so I'm not saying no no medicines, but but have you done these three things first? Have you tried? Yeah, with discipline. Yeah, I tried, they fail. Show me how did you try.
I did this, this, and this, okay. What is other results? What do you mean? What? Weight, fat composition. Did you measure this? yes, once no. You have no numbers, you have no follow-up, you have no trend. I said again again discipline. So you cannot possibly know, really, and that's a big word, no, what is going on. Now, if you don't know, you have no knowledge, the application of discipline is pointless. Okay?
So that what what discipline does. And let's go back to suffering. By doing all this, what I just said, can you feel it that the rest is gone because you are in the present, in the focus of getting through your discipline your result. And in one case can be as we said, your your your your body health. some some other cases could be your mind health.
your spiritual health, your relationship, the relationship what your sentimental relationship, your work relationship, your career, you know. this is what what discipline does. you have the the ability to focus, laser focus, and get with discipline to your results. So a disciplined mind is a present mind. It's a present and powerful mind.
Very present. I like that. Yes. Another piece that I like from the quote is the fiercest battle is against oneself. Always. And
Emanuele Pani (15:19.296)
Obviously that resonates. I think anybody listening to this can resonate. Guys there is a helicopter flying over us right now, so we apologize. Yeah. We just gonna let it pass.
This is the beauty and the romance of filming this on the outsides. You guys can hear the the little insects and all the things and so I do understand that it's not studio quality and also I think has a charm to it. It's life quality. It's a life quality, exactly. It has a fabric of life to it. Good.
A lot of people when it comes to the battle with themselves and I have this conversation a lot with coaching clients, with friends, there is this
Emanuele Pani (16:15.758)
Packaging of the self with other people. Yes. And so there is people that I talk to that are working on improving themselves, and then they tell me, well, I can't right now, I gotta focus on the family, I gotta focus on the business, and I gotta focus on this. And they keep being disciplined.
in their duties to external things not being disciplined to themselves. Yes. And then they keep looking at it and obviously keeps creating effects and they keep not understanding that the lead cause is the lack of love and discipline to themselves, for themselves, to the things that they know they get to do. Yes. So is that concept of putting the oxygen the oxygen mask on first? They get it.
And then there is this brief moment of clarity where they say, I hear it, I see it and they're like, Okay, you're right. I'm going to do this. Yeah. But then that's where I think the battle with themselves comes in because the moment you hesitate, if you hesitate for a second, you hesitate for five.
And then it's ten and then it's yes a month and then it's five years and then it's ten years and then it's a lifetime. And so
How can people develop discipline?
Emanuele Pani (17:58.475)
In regards to the battle with themselves? The this this is a fundamental question. We have you know done thousands, tens of thousands of hours in in in coaching and psychological counseling and and all of that. And there is a commitment to oneself that requires an effort
That becomes material. And let me give you an example on this. One of the most powerful weapon and and and commitment that psychodynamic theory, you know, Jung, Young, Jung, Freud, and all that had was a contractual commitment. So you had you had to sign a contract with your therapist.
Really, you were signed a contract with yourself, but you did not know that, okay? Because they were and they're still very, very smart. They know, they know the the inner loops of the human soul. And in fact, in terms of coaching, it's it's absolutely fascinating because that that it flows through the person. And this contract, in some of the most orthodox schools, will be three to five days a week, an hour.
whether or not you had a couch or not, you know, the psychodynamic therapy for thousands and thousands of dollars per month in which you you you were to to commit. They understood that if you really want to change yourself, you need to commit using a a material ook.
And so this this might sound comment what meaning money like a material money, money money, absolutely money. With all the limitation that these things have, I guess in other you know, in a in a what it was called a mercantile society, you w might come with fruit and and vegetables and meat to pay and resources for the services. But th there is something that needs material that needs to come from you.
Emanuele Pani (20:19.522)
That you put into this contract. That again, I repeat, is a contract with yourself. Solidly, you don't know there is a contract with yourself. You will discover there is a contract with yourself and you will have life-changing abilities. When I when I did that type of training in my life, that was the most powerful, life-changing awareness that I had ever. Okay. And it lasted only a few years. And the commitment was there, it was three times a week.
by by discussing about the the thing apparently of of the universe with no relationship with how I was feeling and that was the most powerful thing. So now why you need this commitment and I go to your point that again is very, very wise. It says people know and I can see it clicks in them and they say yes. And then and then the maybe they retreat, they talk to the husband, they talk to the wife, they talk to the kid, I'm a
I'm I'm taking you know I I'm spending this $2,000, I could buy this for the house, this for the kid, this for the thing. And and the reason why this this illum this moment of clarity arrives is that the human being, of course, each human being on his own life, okay, is centered on his own life. And it should be. It must be. You are the center of your own life.
Nobody is at the center of your life, you are at the center of nobody's life. Okay? In that moment, you have a moment of clarity and you know exactly what is the right thing to do for you. This is the moment. It comes when the frontal cortex separates a little bit, it has actually biological significance. It stops criticizing, observing, he let it go.
So that whatever the subconscious mind, whatever you want to call it, depending on on your type of you know philosophical, medical or or religious thing, emerges and it's shows you the path. Okay. What happens? Because you and I have had this conversation with a concept that I didn't know, that you have introduced me to that.
Emanuele Pani (22:40.814)
kinda threw me for for a loop there for a second a couple of days ago.
What happens when that happens? And then you don't listen to you. Because I think that's where a lot of people I know that's been true for me, right? Like that's been true for me that I've had moments that I knew a decision had to be made. And I knew in my belly, I knew in my soul that it was the right decision. Correct. And for whatever reason, I lacked the courage in that moment and then
It was this battle and this is something that it's ongoing for me. This is a a work in progress within myself is that concept of having the courage and and leaning into this moment of intuition, which again it's a mental faculty, so we all have it. Is an intuition, yes. And an illumination, yes. What happens to people when you decide to become disciplined to not listening to your intuition? Because that's also discipline.
100%. The the so the commonest mistake that is made is that at that moment that we we could have even spontaneously. It might come from some random association or anything that and you know exactly what what to do. In that moment we we don't take a a a step back and we don't write it down. The it's a fundamental the journaling
Okay, which many people suggest in the coaching world and so on, because it's due to the planning, foresight, all good. It reinforces what the frontal cortex usually does. But in this moment, that's another level of the game. It's the moment that comes from below and then is verbalized, at least internally. Yeah. You should write it down. Yeah. Because that and you should write down what this decision is and what it entails.
Emanuele Pani (24:41.068)
So what will be the consequences? It makes it concrete. Makes it concrete. Write it down. Maybe you don't want to be abstract to maybe exactly. Maybe you don't execute completely, but you write it down. Because if you don't do that, that is something very similar when you have the lucid dreams, okay? and in in their situation that is very clear. We have two brains, okay? Two completely different brains, two different planes of reality. One is is the
you know, subconscious brain and one is the the one that elaborates all the dreams and so on and so forth. the other brain, the the urnal brain, the one that that you know handles our daily life, takes back and it starts finding that's what the brain does. It finds reasons. Okay. It's a reasoning machine that finds reason. So your conscious meaning meaning and motivational things. I give you I give you one a reason for this I give one.
Yeah. You want another one? I give you another one. You got three hundred of them? I give you three hundred. And they're all great because they're all based on your path. Yeah, they are yours. They yours. You cannot they're beautiful. Yeah, they're beautiful. They they fit. And they're logical and they make sense. They are fit. Based on your experience. Why why should I invest in this commitment for for six weeks, give it all this money for this, twelve weeks? I mean what why I need to to to mm put the the boy to college and everything. The reason is because if you do that.
You will put your your boy to college three times, not once, because you'll be so so powerful, so aligned with your own with your own deep understanding what of what you wanna be, that you'll be unstoppable. Okay, so why are people so afraid of being right, like they have these dreams, vision and aspirations? Why are people so afraid to allow themselves to become that?
because of of change. Change change so change can happen under two circumstances apparently oppositional between the two of them. One is you change knowing the conditions where you are going. Okay? You you you transition to a new job, you you you marry somebody, you divorce somebody
Emanuele Pani (27:04.748)
You go into a school, you you you you you change your your financial situation, you name them. Okay. You and you know more or less which are the coordinates where you go. The one you are kind of forced into change by by conditions that are unknown. You you the the boss comes and says, You're fired. You had no expectation, you have no nothing, you have no your wife comes and says, I want to do.
Come on, I have another man. So things get even worse. Don't ask questions if you're not ready for the answers always, right? So interesting. Then in these two conditions, of course, in this podcast, we're cutting the when you do mind coaching one-to-one, it's another story. We we go by by big pictures here, but just to give an idea. When when you're moving into conditions that are known, the amount of data that you have.
to process a decision will favor that decision. So are you picking up the new job? Are you changing? Are you divorcing? Because you know the conditions, okay? So is your rational mind in full power and you can almost forget the component that is instinctual because which is the most powerful changer. Okay? The changer that is most powerful. And you proceed in your career, you know, you you go well, there's no problem.
you can be apparently happy because the happiness is is another podcast happiness. but you you proceed. When believe it or not, when the conditions are not known, you better act by pure instinct. So the less information you have of what you are your next move are, is tapping into the unconsciousness now.
If you didn't have any coaching experience, any any even understanding of what I'm talking about, what do you what do you mean subconscious? Everything is is clear. I always I always used to to you know to to play a a game with a lot of of of my my patients or my or my you know individual that came to me to help and I say what and we had of course a table, we were
Emanuele Pani (29:30.808)
Table and I will ask them, you remember probably what number is this? Three, four, one. Very good. Then I put the hand under the table and I said, What number is this? They said, What? I said, I'm I'm changing numbers. You don't see them? I said, That is your base. This is what is is opposing you to see. So I'm not saying you can eliminate this. Subconscious and conscious mind need need to.
to live together. But through coaching and mind coaching, you transform this into a glass. So you still have that in its present is material. It's a big glass. You cannot you cannot break that glass. It's not gonna break. The glass is not gonna break. It's as solid as a stone. It is a stone, a glass, right? It's quartz. Okay? It's it's it's transparent. But you will see. And most importantly, it will see you.
So that subconscious mind, which that's what the coaching is the most powerful thing, will tap into you, will see you, and will communicate to you. You can see each other. And that's we come back to the intuition thing. How does it do this? It gives you sparks of intuition, or most importantly, actually, this is very important, Emanuele, it will give you disconnect. It will give you immediate what we call egosyntonic, ego dystonic.
So you are ego within yourself in synth or in unsynthony. Okay. What does that look like? So if somebody's listening right now, how do they identify when they are egosyntonic or this? When they are egosyntonic, they are they are in in perfect harmony with the relatively perfect harmony with the things they are doing. They feel empowered, they feel good, not necessarily happy, but they feel you know with energy and
Cognition and mood is good, and in a single word, they are a better self. Okay? When some situations, some people, some whatever makes you egodystonic, then you don't feel well. You immediately feel a crack and you feel it. Now, the vast majority of individuals bury it. They bury the cracks. It's a moment, it's that.
Emanuele Pani (31:56.281)
And the cracks will stay there. Okay? And it will come back again and then again. When you bury too much at a certain point, that crack will burst. Okay. And that's why people default to whatever coping mechanism you use. Right? Like the drinking, the drugs, the eating, the shirt. That's the way to bury. You bury with food, with abusing yourself.
with drugs, with addictions, with addiction to work, by the way. To addiction to marathons, I don't know, yeah that choose your addiction, but but something that is absolutely unhealthy. And this by the way, it's an interesting trick that the brain's playing on yourself because now it it moves the attention to something that is, I have pain, I'm too fat, I'm too skinny.
I had I had this, I had this. Like I would but I would but I have this problem now. You y y you brought this problem on yourself by by by doing this. Now this thing which is so important to remember is that the moment the crack happened could be very long time ago. Years. So now twenty years later you come in in front of of one of us and says, can can you help me?
We need to reconstruct your own bloodline. And actually I'm not using this word lightly. It is a bloodline. Because it comes from your ancestors. Mm-hmm. You know, it comes back to and of course you know your mother and your father, when one is front of you, but but and you know your grandfathers and grandpa. You don't know anything about the grand grandfathers. Mhm. But they are the stories are the same. Old and if you go back and back and so on. But they are the same, yes.
So this brings well guess it's gonna go a little long. this brings an interesting conversation. not necessarily around the concept of discipline, but since the door opened, let's let's explore it for a second. A lot of the times when people are looking to optimize their mindset or they're looking to optimize their healing. And again, to become the CEO of your life, you get to be optimized.
Emanuele Pani (34:19.862)
Around your business, but primarily around your human being. Because the moment a human being is functioning properly, your human doing is gonna be able to do better. But a lot of people when they understand the concept of healing and stories and traumas, that then go into this overextended journey quest to
Turn all the stones and heal all the things. And in a way, it is my experience that then they sell themselves a story of brokenness that they never get out. So they're always like, Yes, I'll do this, but I'm working on figuring out this piece and letting go of this thing and reconciling this. And so how important is the understanding, so the awareness of
the story and how important is it actually revisiting it? Or can we just be aware of it and then understand that that created patterns and then we are we are the captain. So we can choose I I mean awareness is is absolutely important but it's not it's not believe it or not is not fundamental. I know we always say awareness is the beginning
of of understanding things and and just to have a quotation beginning is a very delicate time as we know but if you were if you are able to figure out that that path and now we come to the method and without knowing why you figure out it doesn't matter it doesn't matter because the the discipline is required
Exactly for doing that. So the moment this awareness or not awareness pops up. And now you need to act. Because remember, the world is in the totality of facts, not of things. So you need to do fact after fact after fact, and you need discipline for that. Then you have to build a method.
Emanuele Pani (36:42.69)
for your discipline, which is which is the coach, the mind coach can help you, but is personal. It's absolutely personal. And and so we and and you can do it and we have done it you know big meetings with with twenty people, two hundred people, five thousand people, and and the core of the message, what we are seeing right here, right now, will will stay the same about discipline or or
generosity or patience of all all the others but then how do I Luca translate this into into my life? You need a method. And what is the method? Method is is always good to go back to the etymology of words. It's meta odus. So and what is odus? Odus is journey. Odus is a path. What do you call the thing that measures your miles in the car?
Emanuele Pani (37:43.649)
Odometer. Odometer, yeah. Odometer. Odometer. So odus, meter. Meter is a measures of the journey. Which is miles or kilometers. Okay. But meta odus metodos is whatever is around the journey. And think about it. So so you are on the quest for the Lord of the Rings. And you're going for the Ring of Mort.
And you have the the the path in front of you to the mountains. What you need, you mean you need metodus, you need the methodus, okay? First thing, you need the company. Okay, who is coming with you? And then you need weapons in this case, but you know. So you need Legolas, you need the others. Why I'm saying this, this is a because these are the fundamental myth. This is why we are attracted, enchanted.
taken magnetically to Harry Potter or or or or to the Lord of the Rings and you know or X-Men, things like this. They they they chant about things that are before the beginning of time. They have thousands of years. And they and then you don't even know your grandgrandfather. Can you imagine the power of this thing that are calling back to you after thousands of generations? Because that's what we are, thousands of generations. You are our our listeners are
Thousands of generations that resonate, okay? In the beginning of time. And you have you need the the the method and the discipline. Okay? That's a that's you need a path, you need a plan, you need an execution. Discipline will carry you.
Emanuele Pani (39:32.503)
Love that. In closing, I associate discipline with movement. And I think what I've realized for myself is that similar to how you said earlier, once I realized that I was good in terms of being disciplined to my movement, but for the longest time I s sold myself a story. I am disciplined with my
movement and working out, but I cannot be as disciplined with my work. Okay. And I think there is some people that are really disciplined with their work. Yeah. But they are corrupted with their health. Yeah. But then what I realized for myself is that A that was a story and B, like you said earlier, the moment that you understand that you have just developed the muscle that is disciplined. Yeah.
then you can choose the moment you have enough reason and importance to apply it everywhere. Everywhere. But at the same time, you have also become very disciplined with your health and your movement.
So tell me the importance of having and if we go back to the Greek philosophers and the Roman philosopher, all of those people were extremely healthy and they all had developed warrior like bodies. And there was this concept of like the physical, the healthy body yields the healthy mind, which it makes sense, right? We want yeah.
To have the vehicle that carries the mind to be as healthy as as possible. Yeah. So if somebody's listening to this and they're like, I wanna become the CEO of my life, but I don't have the discipline around movement. I don't have the time to be disciplined around movement, which again is a story. It's a story. What would you tell them? Because I know when I was younger, you were you would work out but not as much, and then obviously you had your
Emanuele Pani (41:38.553)
Heart thing. And then from that moment, that was, as you said in the last episode, a sliding door. Yeah. And similar with me, I was disciplined around my movement, then I had my herniated discs. I was in bed for over a month. I could never maybe walk again. And now I look at movement not as something that I have to do, but something that I get to do. Yes. And I feel so fortunate that now I run the way I run and that my body feels the way it does. So
What would you tell people? Because we have this I would love to help our listeners to not have to learn the hard way, which is probably another podcast in and of itself. But we have this this tendency as humans to see the wall coming and refuse to change course until the wall hurts us. Yeah, and absolutely. I mean the the
The old saying about the fact that we have you know two lives and the second one starts the moment you realize you have only one. That's exactly what what what happens most of the time and I agree with you and I actually commend you for for really doing all this because it's it's so important. you don't need to go through like happened to me an opera, an open heart surgery.
or orniated disk or anything like that to realize that life is the is the best of the possible world that we have because that we are so fortunate you know and if we should be grateful in a in a very intense way it is true back in the days those were warriors they had the mind they had the body they died at the age of forty two the mean age now now medicine
Now medicine has has double, doubled at least our life life expectancy. And if we are disciplined with our body and mind, we can arrive to numbers that were n they're not in our genetic code. That's I want I want to stress this point, guys. We were not programmed by nature to in in the last one hundred and fifty years, nothing in our life, right? Homo sapiens is around

at least 70,000 years, maybe 100,000 years. And in the last hundred and and and fifty years, we have doubled not only the the the lifespan, there are people arriving your your your grandfather, my father died in ninety-seven, God rest in peace. And and my mother, your grandmother is ninety-four, and your other grandmother died in ninety-seven too. Your your mm you know mm
and as a mother. So these numbers were not given to us. We we we conquered them and we should and we should respect them with by respecting our body and our mind. So you wanna be a a CEO of your life, the f the first and then we're using discipline on this and then using all the other pillars that we will discuss in the next episode. The most important thing that you need to understand
that this is a daily job. One of the things that is really missing in all these stories of discipline is exactly what you said. Either you are disciplined at work but not on in life, which really it doesn't count. Or that's another very common, you are disciplined between Monday and Friday, but then on the weekend you waste yourself. And and I've been like I am a a
give him my the gift to him myself because of the five days I spent being so you know going to the the gym, being very precise, not drinking anything and then Saturday and Sunday you you all Friday night you you waste yourself. So that's another thing. Life life is not a sub continuous adventure. Li life is is twenty four seven. Twenty four seven. That's the definition of life.
Yeah. When there's not that, there's another thing. It's the anti-life. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I love that. So guys, pillar three, patience, come in next. And what I love to leave you guys with is for you to just see in your life, have intellectual integrity as you listen to this.
Emanuele Pani (46:24.942)
And give yourself an honest audit of where are you disciplined? Because there is parts of your life where you are disciplined, I guarantee you. Even if it's to destructive behaviors, whatever it is, you have discipline. So it's not a question, am I disciplined or not? It's what as I told you in episode four, what are you being disciplined to? And then just commit to a micro decision.
Because I I realized that my life changed. Well that's one of the things Dad used to tell me as I was going through my getting sober and everything else is like, look, the moment that your weekends change, your life is going to change. And my weekends didn't go from my Miami Benders to the Half Amarathons every Saturday like that.
It was micro decisions, micro decisions, micro decisions, and your life changes in micro moments. Yeah. And that is the blessing, the gift, and the curse. Because you want it to be macro and it's micro. It's one step at a time. Every single day. Yeah. Because ultimately you're being disciplined for you. And so stop selling yourself the story.
that discipline is something that happens to you, but it's something that happens for you. And with that, we say goodbye. Ciao guys. Bye.
