Speaker A

Hello, and welcome to this bonus episode of America A History recorded straight after our recently published episode, how has RuPaul's Drag Race changed America?

Speaker A

I'm joined now by the guests from that episode, Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, to discuss this a little bit more.

Speaker A

Thank you both for hanging on.

Speaker B

Thank you for having us back.

Speaker A

In the 10 seconds between stopping the last recording.

Speaker A

I just wanted to just quickly touch on because I think it got a little bit heavy in our.

Speaker A

In the main episode, but I do really just want to know, what are your favorite ever Drag Race seasons and contestants?

Speaker C

Oh, my God.

Speaker C

You can't.

Speaker C

You can't.

Speaker A

I've got to ask.

Speaker C

It's like Sophie's Choice.

Speaker C

Are you kidding?

Speaker C

Are you kidding?

Speaker B

There are so many.

Speaker B

There are so many.

Speaker B

You know, it's only like 700 to choose from.

Speaker B

Like, you know, my favorite is.

Speaker B

My favorite is Rue.

Speaker B

Sorry.

Speaker B

You know, just.

Speaker B

He's an amazing, inspiring.

Speaker B

You know, he's just fantastic.

Speaker C

I mean, I have some favorite moments, like Kennedy Davenport's Little Richard and Snatch Game.

Speaker C

Sasha Velour's petal reveal, Roxy Anderson's wig reveal Roxy's story on the Runway.

Speaker C

It's a very tragic story about being left at the bus stop Angina in season one, revealing her HIV status.

Speaker C

Oh, God.

Speaker C

Yeah.

Speaker C

I mean, there are just so many moments.

Speaker C

Oh, my God.

Speaker C

I was just thinking this morning of the Batonka Dunk grayscale look at the finale.

Speaker C

Do you remember that Fenton Detox's, you know, Violet Chachki's reveal in the autumn fashion show?

Speaker C

I mean, everything that Bianca Del Rio did, basically.

Speaker C

I mean, you know, there are no favorites.

Speaker C

It's endless.

Speaker A

Ru is always the winner, right?

Speaker B

Ru wins.

Speaker B

Exactly.

Speaker A

I mean, you've been doing this for a long time, and you've been surrounded by drag queens, you know, throughout the show's making.

Speaker A

Have you ever been tempted to try drag yourself?

Speaker B

Oh, I thought you'd never ask.

Speaker C

Fenton has the most incredible cheekbones.

Speaker C

Fenton is.

Speaker B

I have the evidence here.

Speaker B

If you're watching this.

Speaker B

This is me at boarding school 16 playing Titania, Queen of the fairies in Middlemanight's Dream.

Speaker B

I mean, that.

Speaker C

Look at the cheekbones.

Speaker C

Look at the cheekbones.

Speaker C

I didn't even have to contour them.

Speaker B

I think I peaked early, but Randy and I.

Speaker B

Randy, we also did.

Speaker B

Remember, what was it?

Speaker B

Wigstock.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker C

Yeah.

Speaker B

You were the Jersey Shore.

Speaker C

No, I.

Speaker C

Yeah.

Speaker C

No, I thought I was.

Speaker C

We both went and dragged to some concert in the East Village.

Speaker A

Really?

Speaker C

Fenton looked amazing.

Speaker C

I think he had two Batman pins on your breasts.

Speaker B

I Had bat nipples.

Speaker C

Yes, it was bad drag.

Speaker B

So.

Speaker B

But, you know, you know, I think we hung up our makeup brushes when we realized there were many people far, far better at doing it than us.

Speaker C

But I do think gay and straight men alike need to get into drag at least once.

Speaker C

It's always so amazing, especially watching straight men in get into drag, because it just.

Speaker C

Something happens.

Speaker C

Something happens when a straight guy puts on a wig and puts on stockings and they.

Speaker C

It's just so much so satisfying to watch.

Speaker B

That's always one of the greatest episodes, isn't it?

Speaker B

When it's the crew makeover or, you know.

Speaker B

Yeah, it's so revealing.

Speaker B

Revealing.

Speaker A

Especially it's the episodes, those transformation ones where you get, you know, a bunch of like butch, you know, kind of like straight men that have never even seen drag before that just by the end of the episode, they are.

Speaker A

They are so into it.

Speaker C

Yeah, they're whores.

Speaker C

Most of them turn into.

Speaker B

But it just goes to show that in terms of, you know, this sort of obsession with.

Speaker B

You've got, you know, this kind of.

Speaker B

Because I think one of the things we're seeing right now is this very ultra macho, on the one hand, posturing, and then on the other, you've got the.

Speaker B

The women of Mar a Lago who actually, personally, I think they all look like drag queens.

Speaker B

The look is so harsh.

Speaker B

You know, they could do with some tips.

Speaker B

Actually.

Speaker C

A friend of ours, an artist named Ashley Longshore, she's a New Orleans based artist, she's just this past week completed a series of artworks that are all the presidents of the United States portraits, and she puts them in drag, which actually makes me think, Liam, for this podcast, I think your wife needs to put you in drag.

Speaker C

And that needs to be the artwork that goes out to promote this episode.

Speaker A

Challenge accepted.

Speaker A

I will.

Speaker A

I will see what you want numbers.

Speaker C

You want numbers.

Speaker C

There you go.

Speaker B

Exactly.

Speaker B

By the way, Randy, I was just thinking also about that Instagram site, Rupublicans Republicans, where they take.

Speaker B

They use AI, I guess, to put these sort of bigots and homophobes and the sort of.

Speaker B

The sort of leaders of the Turd Reich in drag.

Speaker B

They make them over into drag.

Speaker B

And it's priceless and hilarious.

Speaker B

And you just go to Rupublicans on Instagram.

Speaker B

It's the GOP glammed up.

Speaker B

It's really good, really funny.

Speaker A

That is going straight in the show notes for anyone listening.

Speaker A

Thank you for that, Fenton.

Speaker A

Well, before.

Speaker A

Before my toddler starts screaming at me to run her a bath, I'M gonna.

Speaker A

I'm gonna let you all go.

Speaker A

Um, and I.

Speaker A

I thank you both for not only recording this, but also the main episode as well.

Speaker A

And we'll link to it as well in the show notes.

Speaker A

For anyone who hasn't already listened to the main episode, go and do that right now.

Speaker A

And again, if you like what you hear, do check out all the info in the show notes.

Speaker A

You can support the show as well.

Speaker A

Fenton, Randy, can't thank you enough.

Speaker A

Thank you so much for joining me.

Speaker B

Thank you.

Speaker B

It's been really great.

Speaker B

Thank you.
