Emanuele Pani (00:02.67)
Today I had a sales call and they didn't show up. And for a moment, just a moment, that little voice showed up. That one that says, maybe this isn't working. Maybe you're not ready. Maybe you're not the person you've been telling yourself you are. And here's what I did.
I reminded myself out loud that I am going to be the number one mindset and business coach on the planet. And this podcast, it's gonna be one of the best podcasts on the planet. And not because the call showed up, not because my program is full, not because the numbers say it yet.
But because that is what I have decided. And the only thing between that decision and that reality is courage. And so today we're going to talk about courage. Welcome to C Yo Mindset, episode twelve. I'm Emanuele Pani. My friends call me E. Let's get into it.
So, first of all, I think it's important to acknowledge the journey so far and to give gratitude to to my dad in the last six episodes. I can't lie to you guys. I miss recording with him. I miss him being here as well. I'm still in Italy, but I miss him being here. And yeah, just the fact that I was able to do those episodes with him.
it fills me with with gratitude. And so I just wanted to start that episode with with some gratitude. And let's talk about courage. So a mentor of mine said something from from a stage once that landed in me even before I understood it. Sometimes I believe that when we hear deep wisdom, when we hear truths, our soul resonates with them.
Emanuele Pani (02:30.389)
Even though sometimes we're not fully ready to understand it. And what he said has become one of my favorite quotes, which is: the secret to happiness is freedom. And the secret to freedom is courage. And I've been sitting with this quote for years. And what I've realized, what nobody told me at first when I heard it, is that.
Courage isn't a destination. It's not a character trait that you either have or don't have. It is not the absence of fear. The truth, my truth, is that courage is an evolution.
And the realization that hit me over time, not all at once, is that every new version of you requires a new shade of courage.
So looking back at my life, asking for my divorce was one shade of courage. Choosing to stop the addiction was a different shade. A little darker, a little quieter, a little more interior, there was more courage to be needed. Leaving secrets, different kind of courage.
Emanuele Pani (04:07.015)
Living my identity as a real estate broker, another shade. And now showing up every single day to build something that isn't working yet. At least not by the numbers, not by the preconceived idea that I had in my mind.
That's the shade of courage that I'm living in right now. And so you're probably in your own shade. And I want to be honest with you about what that actually feels like. Cause I think most people imagine that courage feels like certainty all the time, like a bowl that sees red, and you're just
Unapologetically charging forward. Like you know it's going to work, so you go, go, go, go. And my truth is that that's not what courage feels like. What courage feels like, it feels like doubt.
Doubt if you're going after the right things. Doubt if you'll make it. Doubt if you're actually capable of building what you told yourself you're building, what you see in your mind you're building. And courage, the real kind, is taking action anyways. Sending the message anyways, recording.
yourself doing content for your business, posting the content even though you feel kinda awkward and cringe with it, getting on the sales calls anyways, and not letting your previous day failure or your previous week's failure or the fact that your last sales call didn't go well, they didn't show up, impact your belief, your courage, stepping into the
Emanuele Pani (06:23.349)
arena and saying to yourself, never with arrogance, but with conviction, I am going to become this. I am going to build this as long as I don't stop.
And so here's the thing about courage that I don't hear talked about enough. We romanticize the big moments. We love the dramatic decisions, the leap of fate, that moment where everything changes.
And yes, those moments exist and they do require courage. But the courage that actually builds a life, the courage that actually compounds, it's way, way quieter than that. It's the courage to keep showing up when things aren't working. It's the courage to choose.
A meaning that serves your vision over a meaning that confirms your fear. I'm gonna say that again. Choosing a meaning that serves your vision over a meaning that confirms your fear. Because here's what nobody tells you about the journey of becoming, the journey of building. Every day you're going to be presented.
with evidence that it's not working.
Emanuele Pani (08:09.759)
A sales call doesn't show up, a proposal doesn't get accepted, a business launch doesn't go as well as you thought. It's a day where nobody responds. There's a day you schedule a meetup and nobody shows, and it's just you on the couch by yourself holding this cup of coffee. If that feels like a clear vision, it is one because I've been there. And in that moment,
You have a choice. You can let the evidence write your story, or or you can have the courage to write it yourself. And I think about
Think about the greats. I think about Tony Robbins building from nothing. If you know his story, the first time he went to a Jim Rohn seminar, he went to borrow money from a bank and he gave an address because he was living in his car.
I think about Chris Williamson, one of the biggest podcasters in the world, the Modern Wisdom Podcast, who wasn't always the biggest podcaster in the world. Everybody we admire, they became it. And not because they had certainty, but because they had courage. The courage to keep going.
Past the point where evidence says stop.
Emanuele Pani (09:54.669)
And I remind myself that if they can become it, if they can build it, so can I. And so can you. Anything that you see anybody else have that you want. Business, family, relationship, health, money, you can have it.
By the simple fact that somebody else has it, so can you.
And as long as you as you continue to show up, because that is the the special ingredient, as long as you don't stop. As long as you keep choosing courage over the comfort of giving up. Because that is the thing. Giving up feels comfortable because it keeps you safe.
And your subconscious wants to keep you safe. Your subconscious is not here to help you become the best, greatest version of you. Your subconscious is here to keep you safe. And growth has discomfort, and the sub sees discomfort as pain. And so it's going to sabotage.
Because what I know about courage and what I've learned about courage
Emanuele Pani (11:32.524)
The hard way.
Is that it's never about how courageous.
I have been, or how courageous you have been. It's always about how courageous are you willing to be starting right now? Because the past courage, Bebs, doesn't carry you forward. Only present courage does. And so
I want to give you something something practical because I know some of you are listening to this and you understand courage as a concept, the same way you have understood the six pillars as concepts. And the moment this episode ends, you're going to sit down, you're going to get out of your car, and you're going to feel
the same paralysis you've always felt. These words are gonna tickle your brain and you're gonna think they're interesting and fascinating, but then what?
Emanuele Pani (12:52.588)
And so let's talk about physics.
You're like, E, where are you going with this? So Newton first law says an object in motion tends to stay in motion. And here is what most people do when they think about courage.
They look at the entire mountain. The whole journey. Every hard conversation, every uncomfortable call, every business meeting, every email that they might get ignored, every door that might close.
And what does that do? That exhausts you before you even take a single step.
you make yourself tired from the courage that you haven't needed yet.
Emanuele Pani (14:02.882)
And so what do you do? Nothing. Nothing moves. And so Bebs, the understanding is that you don't need all the courage right now. You just need a little shot glass. You just need the smallest possible unit of courage that creates.
motion because the moment you are in motion the moment you drop the first domino.
Something shifts. Not because the fear is gone.
But because momentum is real and momentum is its own courage.
And so my question to you is what does a shot glass of courage look like in your life?
Emanuele Pani (15:15.98)
Maybe it's sending the one message you've been drafting for three days.
Emanuele Pani (15:23.948)
Maybe it's making the one call you've been putting off for a week. Maybe is posting that call to action even though you're not sure if it's perfect or if you're ready. Maybe it's saying yes to the thing that scares you.
Just once. And trusting that the motion of the shot glass of courage will carry you to the next one. You don't need to see the whole staircase. You just need to take the first step. And then the next step becomes visible. And here is the physics of it.
The hardest moment, it's always before you start. The moment the object is still before the motion begins.
That is where you need the most courage, the most power, the most strength. Not the strength.
Not when you are moving and groove it.
Emanuele Pani (16:50.846)
It's just to move it, to start.
Drop the first domino and trust that that line has been set up longer than you can see it.
A fate.
So before we close, I want to say something about what courage is not. Because we spent a lot of time talking about what courage can be.
Emanuele Pani (17:23.726)
Courage is not the absence of fear. So if you are waiting to feel fearless before you act.
Emanuele Pani (17:38.851)
You will wait forever. Courage is not certainty. If you're willing to know it will all work out before you begin, you will never begin. Courage is not loudness. Some of the most courageous acts I've ever made were quiet. The decisions made.
Alone, the standards sat in silence, the commitment to myself that nobody else witnessed. And courage is not a one-time event. This is the thing that the quote finally.
Finally taught me after years of sitting with it. The secret to happiness is freedom. And the secret to freedom is courage. Happiness is not a destination. Freedom is not a destination. And courage
Courage is also not a destination.
It's a practice. It's a daily practice in the small moments and the large one. In the sales calls that show up and in the one that don't. In the episode that goes well. In the meeting that goes well. In the proposal that goes well. In the conversation there goes well just as much as in the ones that don't.
Emanuele Pani (19:29.962)
in the version of you that already exists on the other side waiting not for you to be ready.
But for you to be courageous. And so this week
One shot glass. Identify the one thing you've been avoiding because it requires courage. Not the whole mountain. The one thing.
Emanuele Pani (20:05.09)
message, the call, the post, the conversation, the decision.
And do it, do it today. Whenever you listen to this, do it today. Not tomorrow. Not when you feel ready. Do it today. Because the object needs to move. And the only thing that moves it.
is you and I want you to leave you and I want to leave you I wanna I want to leave you with this every great life you have ever admired every person who built something that matter who became someone that inspires you they were not more talented than you
They were not smarter than you. They were not luckier than you. They were not more certain than you. They were more courageous than you are willing to be, or more courageous than you were willing to be up until now.
Helicopter.
Emanuele Pani (21:32.47)
Give it a second.
Emanuele Pani (21:51.943)
And that changes today. Drop the domino.
Ciao guys.
