After working with hundreds of business owners, I can tell you what I think the number one thing that keeps people from actually staying consistent on Instagram.
It's not a lack of ideas, it's simply that no one has ever told them what a realistic week actually looks like. Content creation is difficult. It's hard to make time in your schedule to actually create the content. Like, how much time does this actually take? What do I do on Monday? What do I do on Thursday?
Do I just do everything every single day, or do I batch everything? Do I just wing it? Nobody actually talks about the logistics of it, and so people either way overcomplicate it or they just kinda give up in general, and today I really wanna fix that for you. I want to walk you through what an exact weekly routine would be if I were starting over from scratch and if I had no idea what dedication content creation actually took.
Being consistent on Instagram feels hard because most people think of Instagram kind of like one big, huge task that's, like, daunting and looming over them, and it just, like, lives on some random free day that you randomly have in your business, and we know we all know that we don't have a random free day in our business.
It's just regular life. It's our business tasks that we have to complete every day. And Instagram actually has to fit inside of those business tasks because if you approach it the right way, that can be a money-generating task for you to do. I know right now it might feel like, oh, it's just something extra that I have to do all of the time, but it's actually a money-generating task, and I make sure that I prioritize this.
This is the one of the things that is, like, a non-negotiable for me in my business because I know if I don't do this that I will not see the results that I want for my business. The routine I wanna share with you today, it's not, like, a perfect routine. It's kind of giving you different ideas and different routines and different habits that you can take and think, "Oh, that one sounds good.
I think I wanna try to do that one." And it's not necessarily about, like, oh, I have to batch create a month of content in these three hours. It's really just having a simple, repeatable structure so that you always know what you have to do next and what you're doing at what time. And I don't want you to necessarily start from zero every week.
I want you to come into the week knowing what you have to do. This is how I would structure, like, a really simple, sustainable Instagram week, and I want you to notice that this is a kind of a mix of a little bit of batching and a little bit of in the moment because this is what actually works for me in real life, and you can take these concepts and kind of tweak them and run with them the way that you feel.
would best suit you and your business. So what I do is Sunday or Monday, I take 20 to 30 minutes. This is my planning window. This is not when I create content. It's literally just me, like, taking a few minutes to kind of plan out what I want the week to look like. So what kind of things do we have going on?
What are we selling this week? What are we talking about? I want you to figure out what your anchor topic is. That's gonna be something that you can think of from your own ideas, your businesses, something that someone's been asking you about, or something you really just wanna cover this week. Maybe it's a piece of past content that did really well.
Then you are going to decide what you are posting and when. Like, what time are you posting? That's it. That's all you're going to do, is you're gonna think of your main topic, and you're gonna think about when you're posting it. You are not writing captions yet, unless you have, like, a few, like- big aha things that you want to, like, make sure that you write down so you don't forget it.
You're literally just deciding the plan for the week so your brain is not making those decisions at the time that you need to be posting it. How I do this for my clients, that's how I do it for myself. How I do it for my clients is we do monthly. So monthly we figure out what we're doing, what we're promoting, so that way we have a better structure for the entire month.
You do what works best for you. Then what you're going to do is you are going to pick one dedicated creation block. So that's like 45 minutes to an hour. It's gonna be a batch session. And what I want you to do is you're gonna pick the day and time that works for you that you're going to actually create it.
This is when you're gonna create the bulk of your content for the week. I want you to maybe film your talking head reel. You're gonna write some captions. You're gonna put together a carousel if you wanna do a carousel. You do not need to create every single piece of content in this block, but you're just going to write down, like, your exact hook, your exact captions, your script for your talking head reel.
You're gonna put together your carousel. Like, the things that it's like, "Ugh, this is gonna take me an hour to do if I just do one." But if you put all of these tasks into one batch, I've found that it really helps because you're doing similar tasks, right? You're writing. You're writing the hook. You're writing the caption.
You're writing the carousel. You're writing your script. You're doing all of these things, and it's very similar. Like, it's like task batching, right? So it's very similar things. And if you do them in one time, you can actually do them a lot faster than if you break it up and you're like, "Okay, I have to film, and then I have to write the caption, and then I have to post it."
That creates... Like, that's going to take way longer than doing it this way. I found that this is the best way that works for me and my one-on-one clients. Another day that maybe you are gonna get your makeup on, you're gonna make sure your hair looks nice. You're just gonna, like, feel good about yourself.
You don't have to wear makeup. You don't have to do anything like that. You can do these whenever you want. But at least for most of my students, they feel better when they look the part and they, they feel like they look pretty. So this is when you're going to film your B-roll. Honestly, you, you can do this in, like, 20 minutes.
So pick, like, a 20-minute block, and you can do this for the entire month just once a month, or you can decide to do it weekly. And you're going to do your makeup, do your hair, and you're going to get all of those B-roll shots So you're going to get you typing on a laptop, you on your phone, you sitting down and drinking coffee, you walking in and out of frame, walking in and out of your door, whatever typical B-roll, you driving.
Like, whatever typical B-roll that you want, you're going to film this, and you're also gonna film your talking head reel. If you don't wanna be in the same outfit, that's cool, just change your outfit. You can keep your hair the same. You just change your shirt. And that way, when it's, like, 8:00 in the morning and you decide you didn't wanna, like, get done up that day, you literally already have B-roll that you can just grab from, and you already have your talking head script, and you already have your caption that you have already filmed, and you can just kind of edit your talking head reel, put your caption in and post it.
Or take your B-roll, edit it, put your text on screen that you have already done, your caption that you already have done, and then post it. Now, this is not to diminish in-the-moment posts, right? So as they come up, literally not everything needs to be planned. Some of the best content really does come from something that just happened that day, like maybe a thought that you had, a conversation with a client, something you saw that, like, oh my gosh, I really need to talk about this today.
Those are great. I love them. It's just that a lot of people don't feel comfortable doing those in-the-moment posts. But if you are one of those people that feel comfortable doing it, totally leave some space in your week for one of these. Maybe, like, you can plan out five to six posts, and you have one day where you're like, "I can talk about anything this day."
And if those in-the-moment posts come up and you already have one planned for that day, you can do two in a day. That's totally fine as well. Honestly, one of these a week is fantastic. Just, like, maybe a story that happened. Maybe just you literally pulling out your phone, getting on it, and talking about something that happened that day.
It does not need to be All planned out and perfectly scripted. Now, a daily task that you do need to do, I do recommend, like, at least 10 minutes a day after you've posted, maybe, like, an hour or two after you've posted, unless you can do this, like, as comments come in. But I do want you to reply to comments, reply to DMs.
I want you to, like, maybe watch a couple of stories from people in your community and talk to them about their day. You do not have to, like, engage for 20 minutes before your post goes out, engage for 20 minutes after your post goes out. No, as long as you're replying to your comments and your DMs, that's what the main thing that I want you to focus on.
Never, ever leave any of your comments or DMs empty. Like, always respond. And then at the end of every week, I want you to take, like, 10 minutes and look at your analytics. Before the week closes out, just, like, kind of peek at which ones performed well. Make sure you write those ones down. What got the most saves?
Did any DMs come in from a specific reel? What ones flopped? Make sure we don't do any more like that. You don't have to do a full audit. You're literally just writing, like, your best two and your worst two, figuring out why, and seeing how you can, like, change it or repurpose it for the following week.
That's it. There are some fixes that I have for very common things that have come up on my one-on-one coaching sessions. So fix number one is I want you to stop waiting for a big block of time because it simply does not exist. I know most of you listening are moms and business owners, and we do not just have, like, a big chunk of four hours that's gonna randomly pop up and we're gonna be like, "Oh, nice.
Now I have time to do all of my Instagram content." Like, that's just, it's probably not gonna happen, and if it does, that's amazing. But most likely, that's not, so let's not plan on that happening. The routine will only work if it fits inside of your real life and if you actually make these little, tiny blocks work.
And I personally like to do them in the morning. Like, literally, it's my first task of the day because I know it's a revenue-generating task that I'm going to do, so I do that for my business. And then after that, I can focus on client work, student work, membership work for my, the other part of my business.
So I get that out of the way, and then I can go on to the other tasks of my business. If you have a toddler at home, if you have a full-time job, if you have a really chaotic schedule, like, maybe you don't have a toddler at home, but maybe you have kids that are older, in middle school and high school, and they have a sports schedule to go to, your batch block might only be 30 minutes.
That's fine, but you need to have a plan for what you're going to do in those 30 minutes, or else you're gonna spend 20 minutes looking for ideas, and then you're gonna be like, "Okay, but now what do I post?" And then your 30 minutes is gone. If you have these things laid out, like, "30 minutes I'm going to focus on these tasks.
They're, like, 45 minutes I'm gonna focus on these tasks. Oh, I look good today. I'm gonna focus on batching content and maybe doing a talking head script today." Okay, fix number two is I want you to decide what days you're going to be posting in advance, and you're going to protect them. Like, you're going to actually follow through with it.
You don't have to post every day. Honestly, three to five times a week is really good, but I want you to pick your days. Is it Monday, Wednesday, Friday? That's what I do for my clients that are on a three-time-a-week posting schedule. I want you to treat them like appointments, like you have to post it. Or if you have another, like, 30-minute schedule, you can just batch them out for the week.
You can pre-schedule them so that way you don't have to think about it in the moment. But if you're not scheduling your content, you need to just block, like, five to 10 minutes to make sure that your post is actually going out on those days. Fix number three is you need to give yourself permission to be in the moment sometimes.
If you batch everything for the entire month and schedule it out and then something happens in your life or business that feels worth sharing, just share it. It doesn't matter if you already had something that was going out. For one of my clients, we post almost every single day for her account, and sometimes she's like, "I really wanna post about this.
I really wanna talk about this." That's fine. I tell her, "Get on a, get on a story, do a talking head reel, and literally just talk about what's going on and post it. Like, maybe don't post it at the exact same time as the other one, but go ahead and post it in the afternoon or schedule it out for later in the week."
That's totally fine, and I want you to be able to do that. You don't have to be so rigid. With Instagram, it gets to be fun, and you get to talk about what you want to talk about. And truly, some of the highest performing content just comes from, like, unplanned posts. So please give yourself permission to add those in Fix number four, because I know that, like, tracking analytics and looking at numbers can get really overwhelming, especially for my students and my members.
So what I recommend that they do that I'm gonna recommend that you do is that you track only one thing every week, just one thing. Just, like, pick a metric that's gonna matter most to you right now for that week. So is it DMs? Is it saves? Is it profile visit? Is it new followers? And I want you to write it down at the end of every week, just so that way you know what is actually happening on Instagram and how your content is moving forward.
So let's say you have a month that you really wanna focus on sales. So you need to look at website clicks, ManyChat replies, DMs, and that's it. If you have a month that you really wanna focus on follower growth, then what you need to do is look at followers per carousel or reel. You need to look at shares, because that is going to make sure that your content is going out to new people, and you are going to look at views as well.
It really depends on your goal for the month what you're going to track. That's all I want you to do that month. If your month is about sales, you are literally only going to focus on those things, and then the following month maybe it's a growth month and you're only going to focus on those things.
That is just a way to make it a little bit easier for you so you can actually have a plan for your analytics, because sometimes a post can go viral and get you a ton of followers, but that's not necessarily going to sell something. It might. It might do both, but most of the time it's not going to. Here is what I really want you to walk away with today, is that a routine does not need to be rigid.
It just needs to become a habit. It's something like, "Mondays, this is what I'm doing. Oh, I feel pretty today. I know that I need to, like, spend 45 minutes batching some B-roll and maybe recording my talking head reel." It's just literally about removing the decisions that are going to drain you so much, so that way you actually have energy to do the things.
If you've ever spent time, and I know I used to do this all the time, it's like Okay, cool. The kids are in bed. I have, like, 30 minutes to maybe do something before I wanna go to bed, or maybe I have a whole hour before I need to do something. But, like, if I just, like, sit, I can just watch Netflix for an hour, or I can sit and actually do something for my business.
But then I sit there and think, "What do I need to do for my business? Maybe I should just look up, like, what hooks are trending right now." So I'm sitting there scrolling for my whole hour that I actually had. And then you end up, like, distracted because something was interesting, and now you're down a whole new rabbit hole, and you actually didn't do anything for your business.
And it kind of feels productive, but you're not actually doing anything. But if you have these lists, you're like, "Okay, cool. I have a whole hour right now. I'm going to write out all my captions for next week. I'm going to write my hooks. I'm going to figure out what my plan is for the following month." You know what you need to be doing, so it literally just makes it so much easier.
It just needs to start feeling like a normal part of your week, all of these tasks. The people who are consistent on Instagram, they're not, like, superhuman or anything. Like, they're not spending hours a day on it. They just have a structure that's going to make showing up feel easy instead of overwhelming.
And even there are some accounts that have blown up with literally just them talking. Like, it's like they're FaceTiming a friend, and they're just talking about their day, talking about something that's on their mind. Those accounts have blown up, too. So if that's more your vibe, go ahead. It does not need to be perfectly polished.
As with all these episodes, I love ending with a recap and an action challenge for you. And your recap, Sunday or Monday, you're gonna spend, like, 20 minutes just planning. Like, what are the things that I need to focus on this week? I need to get more people on my email list, so I need to do a freebie. Um, I'm gonna be having a sale next week, so I need to do a teaser post.
I want to nurture my audience, too, so I need to have, like, a teaching moment. Just deciding, like, you're just writing down, like, the things that you need to accomplish this week. Then on another day, you're going to do a batch session. This is gonna be like 45-ish minutes, and you're just gonna create a lot of your content.
Think about your captions, your text on screen, your script for your talking head, really you're just gonna write them. You're not actually filming anything. Another day, 30 minutes, you look good, you're feeling good, you're gonna record that script that you already made. You're gonna record some B-roll, and you're gonna call it a day.
10 minutes a day, engage with your followers, respond to comments, respond to DMs. And then five minutes at the end of the week, you're just gonna take a quick glance at your analytics to see which ones worked and which ones didn't. That's it. That's the whole routine, and it's probably way less time than you actually thought.
And your action challenge for this week, I only want you to do one thing. I want you to just, like, put your batch sessions in your calendar. Like, figure out when you have time to do these things, pick the day, pick the time. Treat it like an appointment. And once they're in there for, like, a month or two, you're gonna realize that they kind of just become part of your routine, and then they're a habit, and then it's just something that you do.
And then it's gonna feel so much easier. Once I started doing this and it's like, "Okay, Monday mornings I know I'm planning out the week. Like, Tuesdays I'm recording B-roll for the following week." It's just like a nice flow. Even if you only can, like, schedule in 30 minutes, schedule in 30 minutes. And treat it like an appointment that you have to get to, because truly, you are your highest paying client.
And I want you to think of your business like you, your business, is your highest paying client. Your business is your highest paying customer. And if you don't give your business that love, then you're never going to be able to help more people. And I know that's exactly what you wanna do. So it's really important that this becomes a habit for you.
And you are going to see major strides once you can be more consistent with just your habits and your routines. And listen, if you show up to that first batch session and you're like, "I still don't know what I'm gonna create. I have no idea what I wanna post about. I have no idea what hooks I wanna use.
What hooks are even working right now? What should my caption say?" That is exactly what my plug and post membership is for. Every single week, I, like, package it up all nice. Like, here are your hooks, here are your captions, here are your content formats, here's your talking head script, here's your carousel you're gonna be posting.
All you have to do is execute it. And with my new AI tool, literally you just copy and paste everything I give you, put in what you want to accomplish this week. Are you selling? Are you growing your followers? What is your offer? What's your price point of your offer? Are you trying to get people on your email list?
Are you booking a call? Like, what is your goal this week? You write all of that in, and it spits out your entire content in, like, a minute. So you can have all of your content done every single week in, like, a minute, and all you have to do is record and post. It's so stinking cool. If you wanna come in, I would absolutely love it.
We have live Q&A calls once a month, too. If you decide to join, you're literally gonna have everything right there. You're just gonna, like, show up to your next batching session, open up the membership, and be like, "Oh, okay, cool. It's done." It's gonna take you five minutes instead of 30 minutes to an hour.
No more decisions, no more blank screen, no guessing, no scrolling reels for hours trying to figure out what's actually working right now and what hooks to use. I've already done all that research for you. The link is below, and if you've been listening for a while and you keep getting value from these episodes, the next step is the membership, and I would be thrilled to see you on the next live call.
I hope you have a fantastic rest of your week, and I'll catch you next time. Thanks for hanging out with me today.
