This is Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Speaker AAnd this is worth the binge.
Speaker AThe show where Aubrey and Jeff talk about the shows worth binging.
Speaker AThat's right.
Speaker ATwo episodes in one day.
Speaker ABecause we were behind.
Speaker BIt happens.
Speaker BYou know, life.
Speaker BLife is crazy like that.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AIf you didn't happen to catch the date, same date as the last one.
Speaker AWe did not even stop it and hit record again.
Speaker BWe here.
Speaker BWe back.
Speaker AWe're giving you.
Speaker AGiving you some behind the scenes info here.
Speaker ABut yeah, we're just recording.
Speaker ARolling right on through.
Speaker BYeah, let's do it.
Speaker ASo not a lot happened between now and the last episode for us, but we are excited to go ahead and dig into the next episode of severance.
Speaker BSeason 2.
Speaker BEpisode 6 is titled Attila.
Speaker BBonds are tested.
Speaker BMark continues on his path of discovery.
Speaker BSo this episode starts with Mark sitting in his living room.
Speaker BHe's talking to Rigabe about his reintegration experience that we left off last episode.
Speaker BMark asked for Gabi.
Speaker BWhat are they doing to Gemma?
Speaker BBecause she didn't know who he was.
Speaker BShe was spouting out random facts.
Speaker BAnd she says, all I know is that she's essential.
Speaker BWhich we've seen constantly.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker BWith Mr.
Speaker BDrummond saying that, you know, Mark's important.
Speaker BWe need him to finish.
Speaker BHe's at 85%.
Speaker BLike, we know something's essential about her and him, but we.
Speaker BWe have yet to find that out.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd we have not seen her alive in this episode, at least definitively.
Speaker ASo I guess we saw the clip of her in the computer at the very beginning.
Speaker ABut I'm looking forward to seeing her in live action.
Speaker BYeah, that'll be.
Speaker BThat'll be good to see.
Speaker BAlso seen her in Mark's memories, but not, you know, like you said in real life.
Speaker BWe go back to Lumen where Dylan is whispering to Mark and Heli about the drawing and the directions that Irvin left him behind the picture.
Speaker BHelly says, I can go get it.
Speaker BYou know, I got a hall pass.
Speaker BI can.
Speaker BI can get it for you guys.
Speaker AAnd where are they getting these hall passes?
Speaker AThey're supposed to be like treats, you know, or perks.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AAnd I don't think they've done anything to get these hall passes.
Speaker BYeah, every time we see them, they're not working.
Speaker AThere's like some plot device like, hey, I got a hall pass.
Speaker ACool.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BBut I don't know.
Speaker BMark doesn't seem too excited about it.
Speaker BHe's still kind of in his done phase, I feel like.
Speaker BBut he says he's hungry, so he gets in the fridge.
Speaker BBut then the fridge changes to his home refrigerator.
Speaker AI mean, that, that could be cool.
Speaker AYou're at work and you just come back home, you know.
Speaker BBut he looks around confused and we see his living room.
Speaker BAny mark is in Audi Mark's living room and really, really confused there.
Speaker BMs.
Speaker BWong is called into Mr.
Speaker BMilchick's office and he's talking to her about his performance review.
Speaker BMilchick reminds her that she cannot graduate from her fellowship until he is deemed her Wintertide material, which I didn't really know.
Speaker BWe kind of find out this episode that she's doing a fellowship.
Speaker BLike I didn't know why she was there before.
Speaker AAnd what is Wintertide?
Speaker BYeah, it seems like it's winter all the time there.
Speaker BSo then he comes back to his big words that he got in trouble for and says something as to the effect of an eradication from your essence of childish folly.
Speaker AYeah, he's just a well spoken individual.
Speaker BHe is.
Speaker BI feel like he's using it in spite, like, I know what you did.
Speaker AOh yeah.
Speaker AHe's definitely letting her know that.
Speaker ABut as someone who used to get made fun of in elementary school for using too big words, I felt it.
Speaker BOh yeah?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AThey used to kill me.
Speaker AThe human dictionary and in fourth and fifth grade, like that's kind of a serious put down.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AYou know, there were scars I held onto for a long time for that.
Speaker ABut Milchick, like, you know, that is something they're putting him down for, for work.
Speaker AAnd it just feels like that's part of who that man is.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AA little complicated.
Speaker AVery stylish and well spoken.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BI feel like especially in the black community, you, you assume that, you know, people aren't that smart.
Speaker BThey use, you know, bad language or they use not, you know, very big words like Milchick is using.
Speaker BAnd so that might be his way of, you know, differing himself from that kind of culture, but here he's getting put down for it.
Speaker BSo.
Speaker AYeah, it's, it's rough.
Speaker AThey're trying to make us feel something for Milchick and I don't know how I feel about it.
Speaker BI know because usually he's pretty scary.
Speaker BYes, yes.
Speaker BWhile in the bathroom stall, Mark and Heli kind of talk about Milchick's run in with him in the elevator and he lets Helly know about sharing vessels with her Audi at the Ortville.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASpilling his lineage.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BI don't think Kelly knows what to feel.
Speaker BShe's kind of starts off thinking that it was with Ms.
Speaker BCasey.
Speaker BBecause she says in a wellness session, you guys were.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BSharing vessels.
Speaker BAnd he's like, no, no, in your tent at the OR boat.
Speaker BThen we see Milchick go in the back of his office, and he has a huge stack of papers and a big jar of paper clips.
Speaker BIt's his practice time.
Speaker BHe's trying to make sure that his next performance review.
Speaker BThese paper clips don't get talked about.
Speaker AAnd then, like, anxiety on his face as he's doing it.
Speaker AYeah, was.
Speaker AThat was pretty rough.
Speaker BIt was just, again, making us feel bad for this guy.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWe see Dylan in the family center talking to Gretchen again, and he's got his little suave boys talking like he's trying to pick up this chick.
Speaker BWe hear him say that he wishes they could be together more.
Speaker BAnd Gretchen kind of reminds him like we are because, you know, we're married.
Speaker BBut then he kind of says, no, you're with him.
Speaker BYou.
Speaker BYou and him are, but I'm not.
Speaker BAnd you can kind of feel this shift in her, like when he says that, that now she kind of feels bad.
Speaker BLike, again, because she feels like she's cheating on her husband with himself, especially when he's separating the two of them.
Speaker BDylan apologizes and then asks if they can hug again because he really liked it.
Speaker BHelly has been walking through the hallways.
Speaker BWe see her sitting down and crying.
Speaker BShe thinks about kissing Mark before the ORT bell, and Mark's kind of at his desk thinking about it, too.
Speaker BBut then we see Dylan and Gretchen start kissing.
Speaker AYeah, I don't think anything good is going to come of that.
Speaker BI don't either.
Speaker BEspecially after we see what happens later.
Speaker BHelly meets Mark in the hallway.
Speaker BShe's trying to find him, he's trying to find her.
Speaker BAnd Helly says, mark, I want to.
Speaker BI want to make my own memories of Sharon.
Speaker BVessels.
Speaker BAnd Mark's down, so they find a place that reminds them of a tent.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BGo at it.
Speaker ASome desk with plastic.
Speaker AVery romantic.
Speaker BVery romantic.
Speaker BWhat?
Speaker BThis was weird for me.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker AVery weird.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWe cut to Milchick back in his office, and he has finished his stack of papers.
Speaker BHis hand is shaking from all the paper clips he just put on.
Speaker BAnd then he looks at his performance review again, you know, sees the.
Speaker BUses too many big words.
Speaker BAnd he goes to a mirror and starts talking in the mirror.
Speaker AYeah, like pumping himself up.
Speaker BMm.
Speaker BHe uses the line, you must eradicate yourself from childish folly.
Speaker BHe says that, and then he looks down and he's like, you know, he looks like he's feeling shame for getting ready to change his verbiage.
Speaker BLike, it's just.
Speaker BHe's dreading it.
Speaker BAnd then he says, you must abandon childish things.
Speaker BAnd then he changes it again to, you must grow up, grow up.
Speaker BAnd then he just says, grow, grow, grow.
Speaker BIt's so aggressive and, like, you can feel the pain in his voice from changing how he's.
Speaker BHow he is.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BAnd then he turns off the light, and it's just a creepy shadow of Milchick.
Speaker ABack to being an intense, scary man.
Speaker BAfter sharing vessels, Helen, Mark are walking back in the hallway, Helly asks a strange question of was it different with me?
Speaker BLike, you called it like a.
Speaker BWhat do you say?
Speaker BA creepy ex girl.
Speaker ALike a, you know, girl asking about your ex.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BMark leans her up against the wall and starts kissing her.
Speaker BBut then his nose bleeds and it's not looking good for him right now.
Speaker AYeah, he's a mess.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BThey go and ask Mix Wong for help, and she's giving him.
Speaker BChecking his blood pressure and asking him questions about, you know, when it started.
Speaker BAnd then Mark's memory shifts and Rigabe's there asking him where he is.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AThat was a quick shift.
Speaker BThat was a crazy transition too, because I feel like even when he's there, like, we don't know if he's actually there at Lumen, like, or at least I didn't at first.
Speaker BI was like, where is he actually?
Speaker BLike, yeah, it's confusing.
Speaker BRugabi says that they need to speed up the process by flooding the chip.
Speaker BAnd she says there's a slight chance of hemorrhage, which.
Speaker AScary, Very scary.
Speaker BAnd I think that scares Mark.
Speaker BAnd he.
Speaker BHe's upset.
Speaker BHe's hungry from this reintegration symptom.
Speaker BAnd he says he needs to eat, which Regavi says is also a symptom of reintegration.
Speaker AI think she's just saying that for everything.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AOh, you got a headache.
Speaker AYeah, absolutely.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BIt's a symptom.
Speaker BBut he was pretty rude to her when he got up.
Speaker BAnd, you know, maybe that's also a symptom.
Speaker BBeing rude.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AIrving shows up at Bert's house.
Speaker ASo awkward for this weird, weird dinner.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AAnd Bert's like, hey, who are you just messing with them?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AWhich it kind of feels like Christopher Walken just ad libbed that.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ATo be honest.
Speaker ABut we finally get to meet Fields, who apparently is a recast from the first season.
Speaker ABut I honestly thought it was John Noble from the first season.
Speaker AIt looked like him.
Speaker AAnyway, so they did a Good job with that casting.
Speaker AInteresting to make it look like someone similar, but we know him from Fringe and, like, a few other things.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ABut they call each other Attila.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AWhich is the name of the episode.
Speaker AAnd I still don't fully understand that.
Speaker AI'm not sure if we're supposed to.
Speaker AIf there.
Speaker AI feel like there's more to what they were saying because it's a.
Speaker AIt's a weird pet name.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AYou know, it's.
Speaker AIt's definitely not.
Speaker BBut then Phil says to Irving, what you're any saw in this Philistine is beyond me.
Speaker BLike, trying to crack jokes.
Speaker BBut it's still super awkward and just.
Speaker AMade it super awkward.
Speaker BIt's.
Speaker BIt's awkward, but it also feels like he's trying to.
Speaker BLike, this is still my man.
Speaker BAnd you're.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker AIt feels that way.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AAlthough as this conversation goes on, he's like, no, I'm glad that.
Speaker AThat any version of him had.
Speaker AHad someone, you know, could experience love.
Speaker AWhen they talk about the reason that Bert even went under this procedure being a religious one, which is something that we really haven't seen any kind of angle towards yet.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AYou know, maybe some of the protesters were against it because of religious reasoning.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ABut to do it because of religious reasoning, because they thought Bert was such a bad dude before that he was never going to make it to heaven, but that maybe that any version of him could.
Speaker ABut before that, then have a relationship with another man and then be with Fields in heaven.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BReally weird.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker BIt's just.
Speaker BYeah, it was really bizarre.
Speaker BI don't quite get.
Speaker BThey're the same person, just different memories.
Speaker BSo I don't know why that would allow you access to heaven, but it's weird logic.
Speaker AIt is logic.
Speaker BAlso, what was Bert doing that was so bad that would keep him out of heaven?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AI mean, they didn't go into it, but it seems like it must have been bad.
Speaker AI guess.
Speaker AI don't.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker ABut then, Drummond, we cut to him, and he is letting himself into Irving's.
Speaker BApartment with his big, jingly thing of keys that he's got.
Speaker ALike, he's a jailer walking around, lets himself ride in, probably knows that Irving is not home, which feels like maybe Bert gave him that information.
Speaker APossibly.
Speaker BPossibly.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker AAnd he's looking around for anything.
Speaker ALuckily, Irving had already got rid of all the paintings, but he does find that trunk with all the information in it about the severed employees.
Speaker ABut the Only reason we know he sees that is because he also somehow has a key for that trunk.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ANow that really doesn't make any sense.
Speaker AUnless they just have a deal with all the lock making companies.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AYou know, and he's got a master key for some of these things.
Speaker AHe didn't have to pick it, he just turned a key.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BReally weird.
Speaker BWe see Dylan's Audi at the dinner table with.
Speaker BWith Gretchen and their kids, and he wants to buy a new car and is trying to convince Gretchen it's a great idea.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd with their implied financial situation, probably not so much a good idea.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BHe then asks about her time at Lumen with his innie, and we see that she lies to him about it.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AReal gross.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BShe says it got canceled and she guesses he was just busy that day.
Speaker AAnd he believed her instantly.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BI saw somewhere that there was a plaque on the wall behind their table that showed that she got an award for being a dispatcher of some kind.
Speaker BSo I was thinking she was a police officer, so I guess that makes kind of sense with her uniform.
Speaker BMark is shoveling down some food at an Asian restaurant.
Speaker BShoveling, shoveling down with his little.
Speaker ALike he's never eaten before.
Speaker BAnd they zoom out and he's like, got, you know, five, six plates that he's just devoured.
Speaker ASo maybe it really is a thing with reintegration.
Speaker AMakes you hungry.
Speaker BMaybe.
Speaker BAnd then Elena Helena Egan walks in.
Speaker AAnd totally eyeballing him from the moment she gets in, like she's there because of him.
Speaker BShe leaves her table she was at and goes and sits with him, which is weird.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASomebody that you don't know.
Speaker BBut Mark's kind of looking at her like he.
Speaker BIt almost felt like he recognized her.
Speaker AI mean, she's.
Speaker AShe's famous.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BSo maybe he's kind of like, why is this famous person here at this hole in the wall Chinese place?
Speaker BThey start joking, which is very odd.
Speaker BLike they had some sort of.
Speaker BI don't know, it was like they knew each other.
Speaker BThey were best friends.
Speaker AAt one point there was a moment.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ALike a little rapport, a little chemistry there for just a moment.
Speaker BShe apologizes for the otc and she also apologizes for him losing his wife and calls her Hannah.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWho the heck is Hannah?
Speaker AWho the heck is Hannah?
Speaker AWe don't know, but.
Speaker BBut yeah, Mark corrects her, is like Gemma.
Speaker BYou mean Gemma.
Speaker ABut it's almost kind of like someone tried to merge the two names.
Speaker BOh, I didn't even think about that.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd we did not see, when Mark was getting his attention from Ms.
Speaker AWong, the ending of that little setup there.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ASo, like, maybe in his delirium, he said something weird, and that's where that came from.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker BYou thinking there's just more cameras, or are you thinking that Helena's making a very good thing now of acting like Heliar?
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker AWe're gonna have to find out.
Speaker BWe go back to dinner with Irving Burton Fields.
Speaker BFields is drinking like a sailor.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BHe asked if they shared vessels at work.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AThese guys need some new words for this.
Speaker BWell, he didn't say that.
Speaker BThat was just my phrasing of it, because I loved when Mark said that in the bathroom.
Speaker BBut he does feel like enies deserved to experience love, and he hopes theirs was beautiful.
Speaker ASo weird.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AWhat a weird thing to say.
Speaker AAt the dinner.
Speaker BMark gets home and he goes downstairs and he apologizes to Rigabi and says, let's do it.
Speaker AOh, it's on.
Speaker BIt's.
Speaker BIt's on like Donkey Kong.
Speaker BHe regave Cuts open his scalp.
Speaker BWe get to see all of Gross.
Speaker BGross.
Speaker BAnd there's a big hole from where the chip was implanted.
Speaker ASo they flood it with something.
Speaker BWe don't know what that is.
Speaker AJust, you know, it's probably coleslaw or something.
Speaker BLook more like apple juice to me.
Speaker AYou know, I don't know what it was.
Speaker ABut then it immediately starts getting stronger reactions in Mark.
Speaker AAnd, you know, he's kind of every which way, every which place, all at once, Everywhere.
Speaker AEverything, all at once.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AAnd, you know, that's when his sister stops by and he's upstairs, you know, after this little procedure.
Speaker BWay too quick.
Speaker BAfter this procedure.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BShe was just in your brain, bro.
Speaker AYeah, she.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AAnd she's like, hey, I've got another idea since that light thing didn't work.
Speaker AAnd he's like, don't worry about it.
Speaker AI got it.
Speaker AYou know, I'm trying.
Speaker AI'm trying.
Speaker AThis other thing.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AAnd she's like, what do you mean, this other thing?
Speaker AHe's just, you know, I got it.
Speaker AThis other thing.
Speaker BI'm trying to by myself right now.
Speaker AI'm just trying to pick up this glass of water, which I can't really do.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BHis hand was like, you know, not wanting to open.
Speaker ALike he's having a stroke.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AAnd then he hits the ground.
Speaker AYou know, Devin's like, oh, my gosh.
Speaker AWhat's going on?
Speaker AWhat's going on?
Speaker AAnd then rugabi pops up from the basement.
Speaker AIt's like, hey, don't touch him.
Speaker BDon't touch him.
Speaker AAnd she's like, who the crap are you?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BLike, what are you doing in my brother's bed?
Speaker BAmazement.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASuper weird.
Speaker ABut yeah, he's.
Speaker AHe's down, he's out.
Speaker AHe's basically foaming at the mouth.
Speaker BAt this point, it looked like he was seizing.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd now we're ending the episode and getting ready for the next one at that point.
Speaker BLike, is Mark gonna make it to save her?
Speaker BLike, we.
Speaker BWe don't know.
Speaker ASeries over.
Speaker BSeries, series.
Speaker BI would be so bad.
Speaker BThere'd be a lot of mad people.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWe had to wait years for.
Speaker BTo see what happens.
Speaker AThere's nothing, Nothing that can happen.
Speaker AThe whole series is over.
Speaker BOh, my gosh.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AMark turned into a goat.
Speaker BWhat if each employee, after they die, they put their chip in a goat and it just go.
Speaker BPeople.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AEverywhere.
Speaker BI didn't really feel like Dylan had any great lines this episode.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AExcept maybe him trying to hit on his own wife.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BExcept for him hitting on his own wife.
Speaker BBut there was one person that had some pretty good lines this episode.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BHeliar had some.
Speaker AFair enough.
Speaker AShe's back.
Speaker BShe.
Speaker BShe's back and she's.
Speaker BShe's at it.
Speaker BHer two lines happen in the same location, the same scene, but she says.
Speaker BSo it's behind the picture of you actually being brave.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ALike, cuz Dylan didn't bring the photo back with him.
Speaker BMm.
Speaker BAnd didn't want to go back and get it and bring it back.
Speaker BAnd then, you know, Dylan leaves and Mark's kind of not wanting to, you know, find Ms.
Speaker BCasey at this point.
Speaker BDid everybody sever their balls in the elevator this morning?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AThat's helly.
Speaker BThat's helly for you.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BThat's how you know it wasn't Helena.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker BSo I think that last one gets me.
Speaker BIt's.
Speaker BIt's the best.
Speaker AI will take it.
Speaker AI will take it.
Speaker BSo thank you everybody for listening and we're sorry again for, you know, taking so long to get these episodes out.
Speaker BBut we.
Speaker BWe love this show and we appreciate you watching.
Speaker BIf you'd love to call in or text and do it, do it and tell us your thoughts and feelings about these two episodes.
Speaker BThen you should on 415 Podbot.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ADo it.
Speaker BSo this has been worth the binge.
Speaker BAnd we'll see you guys next time.
Speaker BLater.
Speaker ABye.
