- Now, this looks like a top hat and a bearded guy
Speaker:smoking a beautiful cigar. - Yeah, exactly.
Speaker:- This is a Figurado?
Speaker:- A Figurado, yes, Salomones.
Speaker:- Salomones size is amazing. - Yeah.
Speaker:- This is gorgeous. - Thank you.
Speaker:- Which is not, this size, is not uncharacteristic
Speaker:of Casdagli Cigars. - Yeah, exactly.
Speaker:- They have these molds. - Yeah.
Speaker:- They smoke beautifully. - Yeah.
Speaker:- They're long cigars. - Oh yeah.
Speaker:- Much longer. - Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker:- We're not gonna sit down and have a meeting
Speaker:at the law office with this sucker,
Speaker:unless we're going into a lot of litigation.
Speaker:- Yeah. The time clock is running, right?
Speaker:- Yeah, yeah, yeah. (both laughing)
Speaker:So when the lawyer comes in and sits down
Speaker:and says, let's have a cigar during this meeting
Speaker:and he pulls out this one, you save some money.
Speaker:If he pulls out this one,
Speaker:you are getting charged
Speaker:a lot of money for this cigar my friend.
Speaker:- That's true. - The clock is running.
Speaker:There's a story inside every smoke shop,
Speaker:with every cigar and with every person.
Speaker:Come be a part of the cigar lifestyle of Boveda.
Speaker:This is Box Press.
Speaker:Welcome to another episode of Box Press.
Speaker:I am your host, Rob Gagner with Boveda.
Speaker:And I am sitting down with Stefan of Lampert Cigars.
Speaker:Now, Lampert Cigars, you may have heard,
Speaker:it's kind of a new cigar coming out,
Speaker:Indiana Ortez has blended this,
Speaker:Casdagli Cigars is distributing it,
Speaker:and it's available through Small Batch
Speaker:and other areas across the entire nation.
Speaker:It's a global company and Stefan,
Speaker:I cannot thank you for sitting down
Speaker:and sharing this cigar with me.
Speaker:- Yeah, thank you, too. Was a pleasure.
Speaker:- [Rob] Yes. Thank you so much.
Speaker:- Thank you.
Speaker:- Oh, that's got a good retrohale, man.
Speaker:Good retrohale. - Yeah, ret- yeah.
Speaker:But many people don't like it. I don't know why.
Speaker:- The retrohale? - Yeah.
Speaker:Many like, I don't retro. I say, oh.
Speaker:- Oh, they don't retrohale. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Oh, I thought you meant they don't like the retrohale.
Speaker:- They don't retro.
Speaker:- Right. - Yeah. I do it all the time.
Speaker:- I can't stop doing it. - Yeah. Same here.
Speaker:- I have to consciously be like,
Speaker:okay, I should slow it down a little bit.
Speaker:- Yeah. Same here.
Speaker:- But to me, the retrohale brings--
Speaker:- New flavors, right?
Speaker:- Oh my God new flavors.
Speaker:- [Stefan] Yeah, I know.
Speaker:- How I learned by, actually Tim from CAO
Speaker:taught me how to retrohale the LX2.
Speaker:And he said, bring the smoke in,
Speaker:and he thought of the anatomy
Speaker:because of the back of the throat,
Speaker:it either goes down or up to the nasal cavity.
Speaker:So think about pulling that smoke to the back of the mouth,
Speaker:but not swallowing it and more blowing out of your nose.
Speaker:It's a weird, like I push my tongue to the top of my mouth
Speaker:to push it back there and actually, I take that back.
Speaker:I blow out some of the smoke. - Yeah.
Speaker:- So I pull it in, blow out some of the smoke.
Speaker:And then I push and I blow out the nose.
Speaker:Because if I try to do all of it,
Speaker:sometimes it's like, whoa, that's a lot.
Speaker:And then you (coughs), then you start coughing.
Speaker:- True. - So I don't know.
Speaker:Now that I'm thinking of it,
Speaker:I'm like, am I gonna screw it up on camera?
Speaker:- [Stefan] No, no (laughs).
Speaker:- Yeah. Wow. - Yeah.
Speaker:We already live, right? No.
Speaker:- Oh yeah, we're already live. We're talking.
Speaker:- Yeah. So let me tell you a little bit about the cigar.
Speaker:- Yeah, and-- - Oh.
Speaker:- Stefan. - Yeah, Stef- Oh, okay.
Speaker:- From Lampert Cigars. - Yeah, Lampert Cigars
Speaker:Yeah, that's right. - Right here.
Speaker:All the way from Austria. - Yeah, Vienna. Yeah.
Speaker:- This is your first PCA?
Speaker:- First PCA, yeah.
Speaker:It's been a long time since--
Speaker:- Casdagli is basically distributing your cigar.
Speaker:- Exactly, yeah.
Speaker:- And who blended it? None other than...
Speaker:- Indiana Ortez. - Yeah.
Speaker:I was trying to tee him up here, Indiana Ortez.
Speaker:We've had Indiana on the show before
Speaker:for our Unboxed Live. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Phenomenal woman, phenomenal blender.
Speaker:It was a pleasure watching her Instagram
Speaker:and going through and watching her blend this.
Speaker:And the label was always hidden.
Speaker:And then eventually the label came out,
Speaker:and I said, Lampert, where is that coming from?
Speaker:And Indiana's blending it for you.
Speaker:- [Stefan] Yeah, exactly.
Speaker:- Unbelievable. Go ahead.
Speaker:Whatever you wanted to start with,
Speaker:you had wanted to start with something.
Speaker:- Oh, just like super happy to be here in the States.
Speaker:It's my first time at the PCA.
Speaker:And it's fantastic people.
Speaker:I think it's the show,
Speaker:like the show where you have to be as a cigar producer,
Speaker:as a cigar brand.
Speaker:It's phenomenal. You meet great people.
Speaker:I love it. We were super busy.
Speaker:The whole show, completely sold out.
Speaker:Really happy. It went really well.
Speaker:It was great. Yeah.
Speaker:- Yeah, we had to dig in your case
Speaker:to see if you had one box left.
Speaker:And if we didn't grab this, it would've been sold out.
Speaker:Somebody would've taken it.
Speaker:- Oh yeah, for sure.
Speaker:Yeah. Oh yeah for sure.
Speaker:- We gotta covet these.
Speaker:These are the last remaining Lamperts at PCA.
Speaker:And this size, this short Robusto.
Speaker:It's a three by three quarter 52 ring gauge.
Speaker:It's absolutely phenomenal for dog walking, quick smokes.
Speaker:Well, not even quick. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Just phenomenal smokes.
Speaker:Sometimes I feel like smaller smokes get higher primings
Speaker:and more flavorful. - Yeah.
Speaker:- I mean, unless the leaf is really big,
Speaker:but sometimes it's the most beautiful, flavorful,
Speaker:most impactful smoke I've ever had.
Speaker:- Yeah. No, completely agree.
Speaker:So my favorite vitola is the short Robusto.
Speaker:Because I prefer like smoking two or three or four a day
Speaker:instead of like one or two Toros.
Speaker:Because-- - Right.
Speaker:- You can have a short Robusto when you have a break,
Speaker:with coffee, it doesn't take too much time,
Speaker:but you have a lot of flavor,
Speaker:I think what comes out of a short Robusto
Speaker:compared to like a Toro it's like,
Speaker:to me it's like the best.
Speaker:And in Europe it's our best seller, the short Robusto.
Speaker:- And in some of the longer, like a Toro,
Speaker:or a Churchill, it takes time to build to this flavor
Speaker:and you've cut out all the time and said,
Speaker:I'm gonna give you everything - Exactly. Yeah.
Speaker:- Right up front in this short Robusto.
Speaker:And I love that. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Because I'm not waiting. - Yeah. Same here.
Speaker:- I'm impatient. - I'm a big short Robusto fan.
Speaker:(both laughing)
Speaker:- And I love the idea
Speaker:to be able to smoke three of these a day
Speaker:and not feel guilty that you didn't finish it.
Speaker:Because let's face it. I spent my hard earned money on it.
Speaker:So whatever I leave is money wasted.
Speaker:And now you've mitigated that. - Yeah.
Speaker:- I'm straight to the flavor, straight to the opportunity.
Speaker:And I don't feel guilty after I'm done
Speaker:because I've smoked it.
Speaker:I smoked it all.
Speaker:- Completely agree on that. Yeah.
Speaker:- The band pretty much takes up the whole length
Speaker:of the cigar, which is phenomenal.
Speaker:Beautiful presentation on the band.
Speaker:What the band has a shield or a crest.
Speaker:Is that your family crest?
Speaker:- Yeah, it's my family crest. Yeah.
Speaker:- What does it mean?
Speaker:- It's just like, also our family goes back until 1593.
Speaker:We got two emblems. This is the second one that we got.
Speaker:- Yep. - Yeah.
Speaker:And it just means, so it goes deep into Europe history.
Speaker:- Yeah. Let's go. - Okay, okay, we can do that.
Speaker:- Let's deep. - Okay.
Speaker:- Deep cuts. - Let's go deep into Europe.
Speaker:So there's like a small country.
Speaker:So the Lampert family usually comes from the country
Speaker:called Lichtenstein.
Speaker:Very small one, it's between Austria and Switzerland.
Speaker:So Las Vegas is bigger than the whole country.
Speaker:Yeah. Let's put it that way.
Speaker:And our family was like,
Speaker:so the country was divided in two parts,
Speaker:the upper and the lower part.
Speaker:And we were at the upper part.
Speaker:We were kind of like more,
Speaker:how do you call it more than majors?
Speaker:Kinda like not owning, but we were like for the king,
Speaker:we were like, I don't know how you call it in English.
Speaker:- Land owners?
Speaker:- Like governing the upper land. The Lampert family, yeah.
Speaker:- Okay. - Yeah.
Speaker:So that's history. Then we got that--
Speaker:- So the shield has, is it a lamb or a goat?
Speaker:- [Stefan] It's a lamb.
Speaker:- A lamb. - Yeah.
Speaker:- In the shield and on top of the shield is a lamb.
Speaker:- Yup, exactly. - What does the lamb mean?
Speaker:- So there are different meanings.
Speaker:Like there are different meanings,
Speaker:but this kind of like interpreter,
Speaker:what it meant, like in that kind of age,
Speaker:like in 1675 and that I have to look it up again,
Speaker:because everything on that emblem means something.
Speaker:The color, the lamb, everything.
Speaker:- Were you guys like sheep herders or?
Speaker:- No, we have nothing to do with that, no.
Speaker:- Nothing? - Nothing to do with that.
Speaker:It's just, it's a symbol that I have to look up again
Speaker:because it's very complicated to read such emblem.
Speaker:- But the lamb, is it correlating to Lampert?
Speaker:- Oh yeah, yeah. That's why probably.
Speaker:- Really? - Yeah.
Speaker:- Okay. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Does Lampert mean anything translated
Speaker:or is it just a family name?
Speaker:- It's just a family name.
Speaker:- It's not an area or anything?
Speaker:- No, it's not an area. - Okay.
Speaker:And the year 1675, was that when this shield was presented?
Speaker:- Yes, exactly.
Speaker:- So this is the second shield,
Speaker:the first shield came in 1500s?
Speaker:- Yes and this will be our new release soon,
Speaker:because we have a new line, 1593,
Speaker:with the first shield that we got
Speaker:when we are working on that.
Speaker:- Cool. - Yeah.
Speaker:- What made you wanna start a cigar brand?
Speaker:- So my main job is I'm a lawyer.
Speaker:- Oh great. - Yeah, so I'm a lawyer.
Speaker:So I have my clients smoke cigars.
Speaker:When they come to my office, they smoke. So smoke a lot.
Speaker:So I thought, okay,
Speaker:hey, let's make a cigar that everyone likes.
Speaker:So I started making a cigar,
Speaker:reached out to many factories,
Speaker:and many factories, oh you're too small.
Speaker:And we found factories that could do our capacity.
Speaker:And so we got the first blend. Fantastic.
Speaker:Got it into my office and yeah, I gave it to my friends,
Speaker:to my clients, say how you like it?
Speaker:Like, oh wow. That's fantastic.
Speaker:I was like, oh wow, yeah, thank you.
Speaker:And so we keep going doing very small orders
Speaker:and at some point a client said,
Speaker:hey, you have to open a cigar company.
Speaker:That's phenomenal stuff that you have.
Speaker:I said, oh yeah, I will think about it.
Speaker:And yeah, at the end,
Speaker:I started opening a cigar company, yeah.
Speaker:- That's great. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Thank you for sharing it with us.
Speaker:- Yeah, you're welcome. - I mean, this is a treat.
Speaker:Where can people in America get this?
Speaker:From Small Batch Cigars? - Small Batch Cigars,
Speaker:Luxury Cigar. - Luxury Cigar Club.
Speaker:- Club, yeah.
Speaker:I have actually published a list on the retailers
Speaker:where you get it on my website.
Speaker:- And the website is?
Speaker:- LampertCigars.com.
Speaker:- LampertCigars.com. - Yeah.
Speaker:- That's L-A-M-P-E-R-T cigars.
Speaker:- Yeah. Yeah. - Plural.
Speaker:Dot com. - Yeah, exactly.
Speaker:- Amazing. Great cigar. - Yeah. Thank you.
Speaker:When we started also, because I gave you the cigar,
Speaker:the preferred retailer program that we have in Switzerland.
Speaker:- Now this looks like a top hat
Speaker:and a bearded guy smoking a beautiful cigar.
Speaker:- Yeah, exactly. - This is a Figurado?
Speaker:- A Figurado, yes. Salomones.
Speaker:- Salomones size is amazing.
Speaker:- Yeah. - This is gorgeous.
Speaker:- [Stefan] Thank you.
- Oh, yeah.
Speaker:- Much longer. - Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker:- We're not gonna sit down and have a meeting
Speaker:at the law office with this sucker
Speaker:unless we're going into a lot of litigation.
Speaker:- Yeah. The time clock is running, right?
Speaker:- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker:So when the lawyer comes in and sits down
Speaker:and says, let's have a cigar during this meeting
Speaker:and he pulls out this one, you save some money.
Speaker:If he pulls out this one, you are getting charged
Speaker:a lot of money for this cigar, my friend.
Speaker:- That's true. - The clock is running.
Speaker:- Yeah. Two hour smoke, expensive smoke at the end.
Speaker:- No, no. Four hour smoke.
Speaker:Speak the language, right? Here we go.
Speaker:So what made you wanna become a lawyer?
Speaker:- So in school, I like to, because we did a lot of Roman law
Speaker:and I got into this Roman law, how it worked,
Speaker:like very back, like back in the past.
Speaker:So yeah. I started, that was like my passion.
Speaker:I was very good in that, in Latin.
Speaker:And then this Roman law--
Speaker:- Can you read Latin? - Yeah. Oh yeah.
Speaker:- [Rob] Nice. - Yeah.
Speaker:So then I got into law
Speaker:because once you understand like the basic,
Speaker:you understand a lot, how the system works.
Speaker:- [Rob] Sure. - Yeah.
Speaker:- And do you have an area specialty for law?
Speaker:- Yeah. So I'm doing construction law.
Speaker:- Okay. - And environmental law.
Speaker:Like environmental impact statements.
Speaker:- [Rob] Wow. - Yeah.
Speaker:- So those are two big things that either can work together,
Speaker:- [Stefan] Oh, they work perfectly together.
Speaker:- Or they can clash.
Speaker:- Oh, they work perfectly together. Because I--
Speaker:- But in America, - Yeah.
Speaker:- Sometimes building has to be subject
Speaker:to environmental causes
Speaker:and be cautious of the impact, right?
Speaker:Because you're changing the environment
Speaker:and so sometimes they can collide
Speaker:and other times they can work together.
Speaker:Is it more popular in Austria
Speaker:to be more environmentally conscious when building?
Speaker:- Oh yeah. It's a big thing in Austria.
Speaker:It's becoming-- - Big thing?
Speaker:- Yeah, it's becoming more and more,
Speaker:especially like the renewable energy.
Speaker:- Yeah. - It's becoming huge.
Speaker:- Now you're speaking my language.
Speaker:- Yeah. - I like that.
Speaker:Innovation, renewable energy. - Oh yeah.
Speaker:- Stewards of resources.
Speaker:- Austria's goal is like until 2000-- Oh, oh.
Speaker:It's like 2030.
Speaker:- The set's falling apart behind me.
Speaker:Go ahead. - Yeah, yeah.
Speaker:So Austria's governments goal is until 2030
Speaker:to get everything out of renewable energy.
Speaker:- So by 2030, - Yeah.
Speaker:- All energy wants to be renewable.
Speaker:Does that also have to do
Speaker:with reducing the carbon footprint?
Speaker:- Oh, yeah. Exactly, yeah.
Speaker:- They want carbon neutral energy.
Speaker:Not just energy.
Speaker:- No. Carbon neutral, yes.
Speaker:- That's amazing. - Yeah. Like wind farms--
Speaker:- The whole country? - Whole country.
Speaker:- To be carbon neutral? - Yes.
Speaker:Like we do like wind farms, water plant.
Speaker:That's where we get the energy from.
Speaker:- Right. I applaud you. - Yeah.
Speaker:- That is a great endeavor to be working on.
Speaker:- Oh yeah. I love it.
Speaker:- Yeah. - It's great clients,
Speaker:It's a great job and yeah.
Speaker:Besides that I can smoke great cigars.
Speaker:- What's the coolest project you worked on that you thought
Speaker:there is no way we could get energy this way,
Speaker:and they did it?
Speaker:- Let me think.
Speaker:There was a project going
Speaker:that we were trying to build wind turbines.
Speaker:But I thought it's impossible because some neighbors
Speaker:didn't really like the renewable energy.
Speaker:They are like against it, say, oh no, I don't want that.
Speaker:And at the end it was hard work, but we made it happen.
Speaker:- So then everyone got on board.
Speaker:- Yeah, everyone got on board--
Speaker:- What made them not want it?
Speaker:- Oh, I don't know.
Speaker:They were are like, probably it's just like a visual thing.
Speaker:They didn't wanna see it. - Yeah, that's true.
Speaker:It's visually like, you know, it disrupts the landscape.
Speaker:- That's true. But we took them to a tour.
Speaker:Say, okay, hey, let's go to this wind turbine,
Speaker:you can go up to the top
Speaker:and drink Champagne or whatever you want.
Speaker:- Sure. - Yeah and they did it.
Speaker:They saw it, how it worked.
Speaker:Oh yeah, that's actually a great thing.
Speaker:And we got them on board and we got the project done.
Speaker:- Nice. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Very cool.
Speaker:Anything new coming up that you are working on
Speaker:that's very cutting of edge and totally different?
Speaker:- We are working on couple of new blends with like,
Speaker:we wanna publish a Connecticut.
Speaker:- Okay. - Like a Connecticut.
Speaker:- I meant renewable energy, but you went to cigars.
Speaker:- Oh, okay. - Either one works.
Speaker:- Oh, okay. (Rob laughing)
Speaker:What's coming up new?
Speaker:Oh, we just launched like in law,
Speaker:in Austria what we launched is like a new,
Speaker:like, how do you call it?
Speaker:Like energy innovative act.
Speaker:So that companies that invest in Austria,
Speaker:get good money from the government
Speaker:if they invest in renewable energy.
Speaker:- Oh nice. - Oh yeah.
Speaker:So I have a couple of American clients actually in Austria.
Speaker:They are investing a lot in renewable energy.
Speaker:- Wonderful. Wonderful. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Because it's like great energy.
Speaker:I think it's, for me, like personal wise,
Speaker:I think it's the best energy that you can get,
Speaker:like renewable with no carbon footprint, yeah.
Speaker:- Yeah, it's our responsibility as stewards of the planet.
Speaker:- For the environment, yeah. - Yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker:- To think about your kids. - Yeah. The future.
Speaker:- Yeah, future, yeah.
Speaker:- It's a big deal.
Speaker:Okay, now we can talk about cigars.
Speaker:You got something new coming up with the Connecticut?
Speaker:- Connecticut wrapper, yeah. - Yeah.
Speaker:- We are working on that with a cigar, Connecticut wrapper.
Speaker:But I don't wanna talk more about that,
Speaker:it's just, we are in process, it's hard work.
Speaker:- To come. - To come, yeah.
Speaker:- Don't hold 'em to it. - Yeah.
Speaker:- This all takes time. - Yeah.
Speaker:- How long did it take to launch the 1675?
Speaker:- I think a year.
Speaker:- A year? - Yeah a year.
Speaker:- So that's no short process?
Speaker:- No, it's long, because you know when I like a sample,
Speaker:what I do like, so in my company I have like a tasting panel
Speaker:from different countries.
Speaker:So I like a cigar, I have a couple of people,
Speaker:actually many people on board.
Speaker:If I rate it, I smoke a cigar three or four times
Speaker:until I like it until I say, okay,
Speaker:let's try it in the morning, try it in the afternoon,
Speaker:after lunch, after dinner.
Speaker:And let's try, what's getting out of the flavors.
Speaker:Okay, I like the cigar. It's like, okay.
Speaker:But you know what? I wanna know what the people are saying.
Speaker:So I keep sending the people that have independent samples
Speaker:to see, hey, what do you think about this cigar?
Speaker:It's with no band, nothing.
Speaker:I just wanna hear their honest opinion.
Speaker:I send to Europe, I send to the States
Speaker:and I send to the Middle East.
Speaker:So just to get like a very broad opinion,
Speaker:if they really like the cigars,
Speaker:because sometimes my taste can be wrong,
Speaker:they have like a weird taste.
Speaker:So, because I wanna connect with all the people
Speaker:to get like, okay, they like it, so it must be a good cigar,
Speaker:like in flavor wise because it's not only me that I like it.
Speaker:I want have the people on board that like it.
Speaker:- [Rob] Yeah. - Worldwide.
Speaker:- [Rob] Awesome. - Yeah.
Speaker:Because we are small and we can do that, yeah.
Speaker:- I love the blind tasting aspect that you did do it
Speaker:because you don't want,
Speaker:you know, I was just talking to Reinhard
Speaker:about how the colors and the bands
Speaker:and the whole presentation affect how you perceive flavor.
Speaker:So when you send it to them unbanded
Speaker:and just ask for their honest opinion on it,
Speaker:if they do it right, they're not gonna be--
Speaker:- They tell, I don't like it or that was crap.
Speaker:I say, okay, thank you very much. No, it really helps a lot.
Speaker:I'm actually very thankful for their honest opinion.
Speaker:- Honesty. - Yeah.
Speaker:It helps me a lot to develop the brand.
Speaker:It's like that's no blend, nothing.
Speaker:A big, just like in a humidor bag or in a tube.
Speaker:I don't say much. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Three samples. Give me your honest opinion.
Speaker:Smoke it and let me know what you think.
Speaker:If it's crap let me know, I don't mind.
Speaker:- This has got the right amount of sweetness
Speaker:that I absolutely love in a cigar.
Speaker:- Yeah, it's not too sweet, right?
Speaker:- No, but I love sweetness.
Speaker:Just the right amount of sweetness,
Speaker:to keep that salty sweet. - Yeah.
Speaker:- A little bit of that nicotine can be bitter.
Speaker:And it's just a, my palate keeps going back and forth
Speaker:and I'm... it's all good. - Yeah.
Speaker:- It's so good. - Thank you.
Speaker:- We had a great opportunity to speak to Indiana
Speaker:about this blend and blending it.
Speaker:And Ben actually interviewed her on it
Speaker:and it was phenomenal.
Speaker:Great cigar, great company to work with.
Speaker:Great blender to work with. - Oh yeah.
Speaker:- What did you learn from Indiana
Speaker:during the blending process?
Speaker:Were there certain things that you picked up
Speaker:that you were like, holy cow,
Speaker:I would've never thought of that.
Speaker:- Some certain process that were behind
Speaker:all the cigar making,
Speaker:I was like, okay, I learned that, I learned that.
Speaker:What you have to think about before you launch a brand,
Speaker:like if you wanna do it like worldwide,
Speaker:you know, you to have inventory,
Speaker:you have to have, okay, this is the States,
Speaker:this is Europe you have to divide the market,
Speaker:how it's going,
Speaker:because if you sell to that country,
Speaker:the other country's angry, like how that works, yeah.
Speaker:Because oh no, he's stealing from us.
Speaker:It's like every country has like, a cigar inventory,
Speaker:kind of like you calculate, okay,
Speaker:with Germany, it's this amount of cigars,
Speaker:Austria needs this amount.
Speaker:And if one country needs more, like the States,
Speaker:usually they need more than I thought.
Speaker:Okay, how can I get some cigars out of them?
Speaker:(both laughing)
Speaker:- The States are gonna consume the heck out of this.
Speaker:- Oh yeah.
Speaker:- Everywhere. All over the world, they're gonna want it.
Speaker:- Oh, yeah.
Speaker:- When working in the European Union
Speaker:or other states within that or countries, I should say,
Speaker:you have to compete with Cuban cigars,
Speaker:which is not the case in the United States.
Speaker:And you're also running into consumers
Speaker:that are preconditioned by Cuban cigars
Speaker:as being the upper echelon. - Yeah, yeah.
Speaker:- When coming in with a non-Cuban cigar,
Speaker:what does that mean for you?
Speaker:What road blocks and barriers are you trying to break down
Speaker:to get your customers in those countries
Speaker:to try Lampert Cigars?
Speaker:- Okay. So you're completely right.
Speaker:Usually in certain countries,
Speaker:the Cuban cigars are the standard.
Speaker:So that's like, okay, what we do is like,
Speaker:look, we try to convince.
Speaker:So we convince people with quality
Speaker:and also to a very great value.
Speaker:- Okay. - So what I do to,
Speaker:because I have like couple of customers,
Speaker:oh, I only smoke Cubans, I don't smoke anything else.
Speaker:Like in Europe, it's very common that they're totally--
Speaker:- And it's not a mean thing.
Speaker:It's just, I have a preference for Cubans.
Speaker:I don't deal with anything else.
Speaker:- So what I do, I give the customers that are so into Cuban
Speaker:I give them a cigar for free.
Speaker:Hey, let's try this. What do you think about that?
Speaker:And most of them, they're convinced of the quality,
Speaker:because the quality is always same.
Speaker:We try to have always the same quality.
Speaker:- [Rob] Oh yeah. That's a must.
Speaker:- Yeah. It's a plus.
Speaker:And we have availability because Cubans sometimes
Speaker:are not that much available even in Europe, now.
Speaker:We've got a shortage and we have availability
Speaker:and we try to get the best standard for the best value.
Speaker:- Have you ever thought of unbanding your cigar
Speaker:and giving it to your client who says he only smokes Cuban
Speaker:and say I got a brand new Cuban for you to try?
Speaker:- Oh, I did that many times. - Yeah?
Speaker:- Oh yeah. - What was their reaction?
Speaker:- Oh wow. That's Fantastic.
Speaker:One of the best Cubans I've ever had. What is that?
Speaker:Is that Upmann 54? I said almost, yeah.
Speaker:- (laughs) You don't tell them?
Speaker:- No, I don't tell them, no.
Speaker:- You don't even tell them? He thinks it's a Cuban.
Speaker:- Yeah, he thinks it's a Cuban. Yeah.
Speaker:- The whole time? - Oh yeah, the whole time.
Speaker:And then he says, oh wow that ash? Amazing.
Speaker:I never had that before. I said yeah, great Cuban, huh?
Speaker:- What if he wants to buy more?
Speaker:Do you just, oh yeah, I'll send you a box?
Speaker:- No, at the end, if he wants to buy more,
Speaker:I said, look, it wasn't a Cuban.
Speaker:I'm sorry, but you like it, do you wanna order it?
Speaker:Oh yeah, sure, send me the box.
Speaker:(Rob laughing)
Speaker:- I like your style. I applaud you.
Speaker:Great style. That's what I would do.
Speaker:Oh, you only smoke Cubans? Oh, by the way I have one.
Speaker:Yeah, don't look at these Lamperts, they're not that good.
Speaker:Here, try this. - Yeah. Oh yeah.
Speaker:- It's the Lampert. - Oh yeah. I know.
Speaker:And many people would say, oh it's fantastic.
Speaker:- It's all psychological. - Yes, exactly.
Speaker:- [Rob] All psychological.
Speaker:- It's like what you mentioned about the band,
Speaker:it's like very band focused.
Speaker:If it's a Cuban band on it or it's another band on it.
Speaker:- [Rob] Right. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Amazing. Are you married?
Speaker:- No, I have a girlfriend.
Speaker:- Girlfriend? - Yeah.
Speaker:Three years. Yeah.
Speaker:- How many years? - Three.
Speaker:- Wow. - Yeah.
Speaker:- What is the typical timeframe
Speaker:for somebody to date somebody in Austria
Speaker:and then get married?
Speaker:- Depends. From one to seven years I guess.
Speaker:- How? - One to seven.
Speaker:- One to seven? - Yeah, one to seven.
Speaker:- You're going more towards seven?
Speaker:- Oh yeah. More to seven.
Speaker:Oh, I hope she doesn't see it (laughs).
Speaker:- (laughs) Yeah, yeah.
Speaker:She's not watching, she doesn't know the channel.
Speaker:- We cut that out. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker:No, that's good. So you guys have fun.
Speaker:Do you guys like to do any hobbies
Speaker:that you like to do in particular?
Speaker:- Oh yeah. I like skiing. It's Austria, of course.
Speaker:- Skiing? - Oh, yeah.
Speaker:- Snow skiing? - Snow skiing, yeah, yeah.
Speaker:Because I grew up--
Speaker:- I have to clarify. I'm from Minnesota, you can water ski.
Speaker:- Oh yeah, no it's snow skiing.
Speaker:Because I grew up in the Alps actually, so.
Speaker:Yeah, I know a little bit about skiing, yeah.
Speaker:- Yeah. Just a little. - Yeah, a little bit.
Speaker:- Just a little.
Speaker:- That's I think that's the best,
Speaker:like the sports where Austria is good at, skiing.
Speaker:- Really? - Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker:- Do you do cross country skiing or just downhill?
Speaker:- Oh no. Everything.
Speaker:- Everything? - Everything. Yeah.
Speaker:Skiing. Yeah. - Everything?
Speaker:- And I do play basketball.
Speaker:- Okay. - Yeah.
Speaker:- You got some height on you. - Yeah.
Speaker:- What are you, 6' 12"?
Speaker:- 6' 5'.
Speaker:- (laughs) Yeah.
Speaker:6' 12" is seven feet for anyone paying attention out there.
Speaker:6' 5"?
Speaker:- Yeah. - Play a little basketball?
Speaker:- Yeah a little basketball and swimming.
Speaker:- Swimming? - Yeah.
Speaker:- What's your favorite position in basketball play?
Speaker:Are you a forward or defense?
Speaker:- Forward.
Speaker:- Forward? - Yeah. Forward.
Speaker:- You like to dunk on 'em? - Yeah.
Speaker:Oh, I'm to heavy for that now. I can't do it.
Speaker:I used to, but you know, you get older and.
Speaker:- It's gotta feel good to just be able to dunk that ball
Speaker:and hang onto that rim a little bit.
Speaker:- Oh, I wish I could do that, but for me--
Speaker:- You used to. - Used to, yeah.
Speaker:But you know, you get older and yeah.
Speaker:- Knees can't handle the jump that high.
Speaker:- Knees problem.
Speaker:But for me, it's just an amazing hobby, you know?
Speaker:You meet great people, it's a team sport. Love it.
Speaker:The States, like I watch a lot of NBA.
Speaker:- Who's your favorite NBA player?
Speaker:- KD. - KD?
Speaker:- Yeah, KD.
Speaker:Kevin Durant, yeah.
Speaker:- Kevin?
Speaker:- Durant.
Speaker:- Durant? - Yeah, KD, yeah.
Speaker:- Oh Kevin. I was thinking Kevin Garnett.
Speaker:- Oh no. Kevin Durant, KD.
Speaker:- Okay. - Yeah.
Speaker:- What do you like about him?
Speaker:- Oh, like how he plays because he plays super smart.
Speaker:Like he passes,
Speaker:he takes the shots when it's necessary
Speaker:or I love the whole the team that he plays.
Speaker:Because he gets all the team members on board.
Speaker:- He's the leader. - Yeah, he's a leader, yeah.
Speaker:- Yeah? - Yeah. I like it.
Speaker:Golden State Warriors.
Speaker:- Golden State Warriors. - Yeah, Warriors. Yeah.
Speaker:- Love it. - Yeah. It's my favorite team.
Speaker:- It's fun to see somebody that can get the team energized
Speaker:and come back. - Oh yeah.
Speaker:- From losing or from a, you know, a few points down.
Speaker:- [Stefan] Yeah.
Speaker:- That's the fun of the game.
Speaker:I think basketball's fun to watch.
Speaker:But probably like the last five minutes is the most fun.
Speaker:- Oh, then you've never watched soccer.
Speaker:- No. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Yeah, soccer. - That's boring.
Speaker:That's boring. 90 minutes.
Speaker:- Soccer can be boring because it's a lot of setup.
Speaker:- Yeah, yeah. 90 minutes no goal, potentially.
Speaker:- But hey, American football
Speaker:is a lot of whistle blowing, you know?
Speaker:- That's true. - Okay, break.
Speaker:Reset up. Charge online. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Break, reset up. Charge on the line.
Speaker:Soccer, I commend those guys. They gotta keep it going.
Speaker:- Yeah. That's true. - There's no break.
Speaker:- [Stefan] Oh yeah. That's true, yeah.
Speaker:- You either control the ball, - Yeah.
Speaker:- Or you don't. - Oh yeah, that's true yeah.
Speaker:- So I love that aspect.
Speaker:So from that part, it's a more patient game.
Speaker:- [Stefan] Oh yeah. It's way more patient.
Speaker:- Not a boring game, right? It's a more patient game.
Speaker:- That's true. And you have to play clever.
Speaker:- Yeah. Every little bit counts.
Speaker:- [Stefan] Yeah.
Speaker:- I feel like, I play a lot of baseball.
Speaker:- [Stefan] Yeah.
Speaker:- To me, baseball's won by errors and omissions.
Speaker:The other team's screwing up. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Missing a throw. Not throwing it fast enough.
Speaker:Missing the tag. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Not getting the tag, letting the guy steal.
Speaker:You know, all of that, pitching the wrong pitch.
Speaker:So he cranks a homer when it's, you know,
Speaker:you're down by two. - Yeah.
Speaker:- So it's stuff like that I just love,
Speaker:it's just a little bit of an edge.
Speaker:And when you see somebody like Kevin,
Speaker:that can lead a team to get that edge, is so fun to watch.
Speaker:- That's true. Totally agree with that.
Speaker:- Yeah. - Yeah.
Speaker:- What else is coming up in the future for you?
Speaker:You looking to do anything as far as break ground
Speaker:on releasing Lampert Cigars to a new country, or do more
Speaker:as far as bringing more cigars to the United States?
Speaker:You had talked about the Connecticut.
Speaker:Clearly there's only the one line, right?
Speaker:- Yeah, at the moment we have like,
Speaker:but we've also the preferred retailer program with that.
Speaker:We have actually in Europe we have two, like two more lines.
Speaker:We have the Ocean Breeze.
Speaker:Yeah, which we brought into the States.
Speaker:I think it was for Luxury Cigar Club exclusively.
Speaker:- Nice. - Yeah.
Speaker:So sometimes we bring exclusive brands
Speaker:that we have in Europe, we bring it to the States
Speaker:for exclusive customers.
Speaker:- I love that. - So that's what we do, yeah.
Speaker:So we try to keep certain cigars very exclusive,
Speaker:because I don't have much production of certain cigars.
Speaker:So I have in Switzerland,
Speaker:I kind of have like a VIP program going,
Speaker:like if you reach a certain amount,
Speaker:you can access these kinds of cigars.
Speaker:Because I have like 50 boxes or something, it's nothing.
Speaker:- Right. Very limited. - Very limited.
Speaker:- It's just some unicorns.
Speaker:Anyone out there. Unicorn chasers?
Speaker:Better start looking at his portfolio.
Speaker:Ocean Line, what is the other line?
Speaker:- Yeah, Ocean Breeze and the other line--
Speaker:- Ocean Breeze. - Is My Cigar Lab line.
Speaker:- My Cigar Lab line?
Speaker:- Yeah, My Cigar Lab. That's the name of the brand.
Speaker:That's with this guy.
Speaker:- Okay. My Cigar Lab.
Speaker:- Yeah, so the idea behind this blend
Speaker:was actually came up when I was in Thailand.
Speaker:Because Thailand is very famous for suits, you know?
Speaker:You get the custom made, tailor made suits.
Speaker:So I thought, it was a rainy day,
Speaker:like it's rain, we got into a storm.
Speaker:So I was just sitting on the balcony, smoking cigars.
Speaker:I thought, you know what?
Speaker:These guys in Thailand, they can make the suit,
Speaker:whatever you want, you can make it like that size,
Speaker:you can adjust, you can make it here, you can make that.
Speaker:I thought, you know,
Speaker:that would be great if we can do that with a cigar.
Speaker:So what we did first with this brand before we launched it,
Speaker:we made custom made cigars
Speaker:so we had like a program online,
Speaker:saying, okay, you can enter the program
Speaker:and you can modify the cigar visually how you like it
Speaker:and what blend you like it and we make it.
Speaker:- Wow. - Yeah.
Speaker:And you can also use your own band. You can upload it.
Speaker:We will take care of the band.
Speaker:So that's why we got many customers in Switzerland,
Speaker:big companies, hey, we wanna have our own cigar.
Speaker:So we make custom made cigars for them with their band.
Speaker:- Wow. - Yeah.
Speaker:- So that was-- - That's very bespoke.
Speaker:- Yeah. So that was the idea behind it.
Speaker:And it got bigger and bigger.
Speaker:So we got approached from a company in Belgium,
Speaker:company in Ireland, company,
Speaker:again, companies in Switzerland,
Speaker:they wanna have custom made cigars,
Speaker:I said, yeah, sure we can do that.
Speaker:And it got bigger and bigger and I thought,
Speaker:you know what, with that blend, with certain blends,
Speaker:we have to make a standard line out of it,
Speaker:like a standard portfolio.
Speaker:Then we created a standard portfolio with these cigars
Speaker:that we have also available in Switzerland
Speaker:and a few in the States, yeah.
Speaker:So that's the story behind the My Cigar Lab,
Speaker:it's like my cigar, but it's like a laboratory.
Speaker:You just create like crazy things.
Speaker:- Yeah. - Yeah.
Speaker:- I love it. - Yeah. That was, yeah.
Speaker:- So do you think there's gonna come a time
Speaker:where the cigar business
Speaker:is gonna take you away from being a lawyer?
Speaker:- Yeah, it keeps me at the moment keeps me super busy
Speaker:because we have like more than 10 countries already
Speaker:that we are handling.
Speaker:At a certain point, I think.
Speaker:But I still love being a lawyer, you know?
Speaker:It's an amazing job. I have amazing clients.
Speaker:At some point, yeah. I will think about it.
Speaker:Because I have also a third business.
Speaker:I make rum.
Speaker:- Rum? - Rum, yeah.
Speaker:I pair my cigars with rum. So I do pairing.
Speaker:- So you make rum, you make cigars, and you're a lawyer?
Speaker:- [Stefan] Yeah, exactly.
Speaker:- Is there anything else you do?
Speaker:- Not that I'm aware of. That's it, yeah.
Speaker:- So what kind of rum?
Speaker:- So our rum is made in Panama.
Speaker:- Panama? - Yeah, Panama, yeah.
Speaker:We have like a--
Speaker:- Is that a normal spot to be making rum?
Speaker:- Oh, it's very famous.
Speaker:We have a very, very great master blender.
Speaker:- Really? - Oh yeah. It's fantastic.
Speaker:- I'm rum ignorant. So you're educating me.
Speaker:- Okay, yeah.
Speaker:So rum wise, we make a seven-year-old rum,
Speaker:a 12-year-old rum and these rums, we adjust with our cigars.
Speaker:So we go there say, okay, taste the cigars.
Speaker:What kind of flavor would fit?
Speaker:What kind of drink would fit to that cigar?
Speaker:And then we start working on the blend,
Speaker:like the cigars, cigar blend.
Speaker:Like we work with the rum blend to get the best out of it,
Speaker:to have the best pairing ever.
Speaker:- Oh my gosh. - Yeah. So we--
Speaker:- So it's truly paired with the cigar.
Speaker:- Yeah. - What's the name of the rum?
Speaker:- Lampert Rum.
Speaker:- Lampert Rum. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Lampert Cigars. - Yes, exactly.
Speaker:- If I'm smoking the 1675, what rum am I drinking?
Speaker:- The 12 year. - The 12 year?
Speaker:- Yeah. In a perfect age, 12 years in a wooden barrel.
Speaker:Perfect.
Speaker:- What about the seven year?
Speaker:- The seven year, I suggest if you smoke a cigar,
Speaker:but if you are a beginner.
Speaker:Because it gives very sweetness.
Speaker:It's more kind of like a sipping rum,
Speaker:if you wanna mix it with a drink,
Speaker:like Cuba Libre or something. - Okay.
Speaker:- But the 12-year-old rum is like even more quality.
Speaker:You don't mix it with a drink, it's too expensive.
Speaker:- Right. - Yeah.
Speaker:- That's drink neat. - Oh yeah, drink neat.
Speaker:Yeah, on the rocks.
Speaker:- And smoke the Lampert 1675? - Yes, exactly.
Speaker:- Now, what about the other cigars?
Speaker:You have another year above 12?
Speaker:- Oh yeah. It's coming soon.
Speaker:Because after that, I'm flying to Panama to the factory.
Speaker:We are trying to create an 18-year-old and 25-year-old rum.
Speaker:- [Rob] Holy cow.
Speaker:- Super old, very, very special.
Speaker:We try to keep it very limited.
Speaker:Because the rum,
Speaker:we just started like one and a half year ago
Speaker:and that's our first production came out.
Speaker:It's on the boat.
Speaker:No, I think it's already cleared at the moment,
Speaker:but we are almost sold out.
Speaker:We haven't even started selling,
Speaker:but we have so many pre-orders sold.
Speaker:- Can people get this in the United States
Speaker:or only in Austria or where?
Speaker:- No, United States is the next part.
Speaker:Because it's a bit complicated, I heard it's state to state,
Speaker:you have to check. - Yeah.
Speaker:- So we are looking for an importer in the United States
Speaker:at the moment that can help us to bring the rum.
Speaker:- So those of you with international connections,
Speaker:if you want Lampert Rum,
Speaker:- Yeah. - You gotta tap into those.
Speaker:- Yeah. - Where could they get it?
Speaker:Is there a big distributor or retailer in Europe
Speaker:that they could get it from?
Speaker:- They can get it from me directly.
Speaker:- Directly?
Speaker:- Oh yeah, I have warehouses everywhere. Yeah.
Speaker:- At LampertRum.com?
Speaker:- LampertRum.com. Info@LampertRum.com send me an email.
Speaker:- All right. - Yeah.
Speaker:- That just got easier. Now you know a guy.
Speaker:Info@LampertRum.com and you can get Lampert Rum.
Speaker:- Highest quality, best quality.
Speaker:- 12 year. - 12 year.
Speaker:- With your Lampert 1675 cigar.
Speaker:- Perfect pairing. You will love it.
Speaker:- How come you didn't come over with the pairing?
Speaker:How come you didn't come over with the rum to pair?
Speaker:- Because it was on the boat.
Speaker:- I'm just kidding. I don't even drink.
Speaker:Just giving you a hard time.
Speaker:- Nah, yeah.
Speaker:I would love to, but it's...
Speaker:- We're pairing with espresso, which is great.
Speaker:- It's great, yeah. Fantastic.
Speaker:- Stefan, I wanna thank you so much.
Speaker:- Yeah, thank you, too.
Speaker:It was amazing. Thank you for being here.
Speaker:- Thank you you for being here.
