MichaelWelcome to one more thing before you go.
MichaelI'm your host, Michael Hurst and I'm here with my lovely wife and co host Diane.
MichaelHey, Diane.
DianeHello, Michael.
MichaelYou know it's almost Halloween.
DianeI know.
DianeGetting excited.
MichaelPretty close.
MichaelYep, it's just around the corner.
MichaelAnd we even got some really cool kind of extra Halloween decorations this year.
DianeYes, we did.
DianeJust a few.
MichaelJust a few.
MichaelI wish we could get a few more.
MichaelBut that'll come down next year.
MichaelMaybe next year will be one of those houses that the neighbors go, don't go anywhere near that house.
MichaelJust threw up.
MichaelHalloween.
DianeNo, we already have one of those in the neighborhood that looks like Halloween threw up.
DianeWe don't need another one.
MichaelWell, here would be the difference.
MichaelThe difference would be that house and I'm not naming anybody, so it's okay.
MichaelNo, I'm not saying anything, but that house is mostly just a bunch of blow up stuff and just kind of a bunch of stuff crammed into a little thing.
MichaelSee, next year, next year we're going to do like some spooky movies that are going to be showing on the garage and through the windows and you're going to just be ghouls and ghosts and goblins and lights, lights and you know, that kind of thing.
MichaelSo that.
MichaelYeah, it's going to be.
DianeAnd I think we should dress up next year too.
DianeWe don't usually dress up.
DianeWe got to dress up next year.
MichaelWe should do that.
MichaelYes, we should do that.
MichaelOur goal is an old man.
MichaelWhat are you going on?
DianeAn old woman.
MichaelNo, I want to spice it.
DianeI want to be a witch.
DianeI was looking for a witch's costumes.
DianeI want to be a witch.
MichaelWell, we're going to do that and then I'm going to get that thing I've been wanting.
MichaelThe 12 foot blow up ghoulie ghost that wears.
DianeYou have been talking about this almost Daily.
MichaelYes.
DianeThat you want this thing.
MichaelYes, yes, yes, yes.
DianeYeah.
MichaelSo, yeah, it's going to be fun.
MichaelWe're going to.
MichaelYeah, we're going to light up the neighborhood.
MichaelI think everybody's going to dare.
MichaelDo you remember, remember when we were still living in Woodland Park?
DianeOh, I know exactly what you're talking about because I got hurt.
MichaelThere was a house down the road.
MichaelNow, we lived up in the mountains about 8, 500ft behind pikes Peak.
MichaelOur front yard basically was the backside of Pikes Peak.
MichaelAnd yes, we're talking about that Pikes Peak.
MichaelAnd it was beautiful.
MichaelNow, Halloween, typically every year, pretty much every year the girls were growing up, we typically had a blizzard on Halloween or snow.
DianeIt was always cold.
MichaelSo it was a matter of could you get out before it hit or, you know, and get all your stuff done and get the kids back in or did, you know, you just try to go to a party or what?
MichaelBut we.
MichaelIt was nice because we had a lot of kids that roamed the neighborhood.
MichaelAnd there was one house, one house you could.
MichaelAnd look, those are lots.
MichaelYou have a regular lot, just a regular lot, like an 8,000 square foot lot like we have here.
MichaelAnd then we had a third acre lot next to us that divided us between the other neighbors.
MichaelSo there was a lot of these up in our neighborhood up there.
MichaelSo when I say this, you know, you understand that you could hear the screams coming from that house and they were theoretically probably a block away.
DianeYeah, I'd say about a block.
DianeYou could see the house from our front porch.
MichaelYeah.
MichaelAnd you could see it because of the fact that we lived the way we all lived up there, where you had acreage between the houses.
MichaelSo you can still see that.
MichaelBut it was.
MichaelYou always lit it up good.
MichaelAnd tell them what happened.
MichaelWell, first of all, it was nice because you gotta understand the challenge of doing this at 8,500ft in the snow is that you get your kids in the best costume you can get them in, and you get them who they want to be, and then you bundle them up for the winter and then you have to run them up to the house.
MichaelEverybody gets driven around mostly, and then you run them up to the house and then you unzip their jacket and show everybody their costumes.
DianeCostumes.
MichaelHey, everyone.
MichaelSee your costumes.
MichaelAnd then get a candy and you give your candy.
MichaelThen they zip them back up again and then you run back to the car.
DianeYeah.
DianeSo, yeah, it's much different here in Arizona.
DianeWe were.
DianeWe were.
DianeIt was a different.
DianeDifferent way to do Halloween.
DianeDifferent world for sure.
MichaelSo that one house you drew up to it and.
DianeOne house.
MichaelYeah, that one house.
DianeSo, well, they, they did have like all the spooky stuff playing and the sounds and the screams and everything, but.
MichaelIt was very creative.
MichaelVery, very creative.
DianeIt was creative.
DianeBut on the front porch they had a.
DianeEvery year they had like this big life size scarecrow or so I think it felt like it was.
MichaelWell, also that for a while.
MichaelHe did it himself for a while.
DianeNo, no, no.
DianeThis is what, this is what happened every year.
DianeIt was that life size scarecrow sitting in the chair.
DianeSo every year that's what I was expecting.
DianeAnd then the one year that I go up to with the kids, it was him and I didn't expect it.
DianeAnd he scared the crap out of me and I tripped and I twisted my ankle.
DianeI literally got hurt.
MichaelI'm not laughing at the twisting your ankle, but.
DianeI know.
MichaelBut yeah, you could hear kids screaming and you could hear adults screaming.
DianeYeah, because he.
DianeBecause it usually was.
DianeI mean, it was scary enough with just the life size one, but it probably.
DianeAfter a few years, everybody got used to it.
DianeHe's like, well, this isn't working anymore.
DianeI'm going to dress up like that dummy.
DianeAnd yeah, it worked.
MichaelAnd it worked.
DianeIt worked big time.
DianeIt was very scary.
MichaelIt's like, happy Halloween.
MichaelHappy Halloween.
DianeOne Halloween.
DianeHappy Halloweeny.
DianeAnd then the one time that it was so there was.
DianeI don't even know why I even had the kids out.
DianeI know you were working, but I went ahead and drove the kids around in a blizzard and we were in our own neighborhood and literally got lost.
DianeI had no idea where I was.
DianeKnow where the road was.
DianeIt was crazy.
DianeAnd I.
DianeI think after that we just.
DianeWe really didn't know much, you know.
MichaelYeah, it was kind of one of those.
MichaelYeah.
MichaelBut, you know, I think a lot of that also started doing.
MichaelEventually we also started going to parties where all the kids were because the winters were getting kind of crappy.
MichaelAnd that's one reason we moved to Arizona.
MichaelBut still a beautiful place.
MichaelStill miss it, you know?
MichaelStill.
MichaelBut that house, that house we lived in there.
MichaelThere were spirits around it.
MichaelThere were spirits.
DianeIt was haunted.
DianeCannot convince me it was not haunted.
DianeAnd we lived there 15 years.
MichaelWe did live there 15 years.
MichaelCo jointly with the entities we'll call them.
DianeYes, I did.
MichaelKids saw them all the time.
MichaelAnd Nikki used to wake up with night terrors because of it and used to see kids playing.
MichaelShe said those kids were playing and Dancing right there and, you know, won't leave me alone type stuff.
MichaelAnd Caitlin, I think Caitlin saw a.
MichaelI think both kids and I don't know if you did or not.
MichaelDidn't they see a Victorian?
DianeWell, I had.
DianeYeah, I had.
DianeSo I didn't see her.
DianeBut I'll tell the story about what happened.
DianeOr did we want to start chronologically of like our first experiences and then work up or not?
MichaelWell, let's go and tell this one and then we'll go back.
DianeOkay.
DianeOkay.
DianeSo, yeah, so the girls would see this.
DianeThey always described her as Victorian looking woman, but she was nice, you know, and she.
DianeI don't remember them ever.
DianeWell, no, Katie said she didn't.
DianeKatie remembers not seeing her but hearing her and then Nikki doesn't really remember any of it.
DianeBut I.
DianeIt's a core memory for me.
DianeI remember distinctly because we had gone to dinner.
DianeThe girls were old enough to stay by themselves.
DianeThey were like, I think 12 and 10 or something.
DianeAnd we just real quick went to dinner, the two of us, and we came home and they were just beyond petrified.
DianeAnd just as soon as we walked in the door, they like, oh my God.
DianeOh my God.
DianeThis is what happened.
DianeThis is what we saw.
DianeSo it's weird that they don't really remember as well as I do, but they described her as like a Victorian looking woman and kind of.
DianeMy mother has these pictures.
DianeShe's had them for years.
DianeI think she still has them of just a lady dressed up kind of in that era with a little girl and that they said, you know, that picture grandma has, that was her.
DianeIt looked just like her.
MichaelMaybe followed them home maybe.
DianeAnd so, you know, they were, they were just.
DianeThey were scared, but they were like, well, but she didn't.
DianeIt was just a scary thing to experience because it was, you know, spirit.
DianeBut they were like, well, that she was okay.
DianeLike, we're not scared of her.
DianeIt was just a weird.
MichaelThe experience itself and just to preface it just everybody understands that we lived in a.
MichaelWillow park was a small town at that time and you know, neighbors watched the neighbors and.
MichaelAnd so forth.
MichaelSo, you know, and the kids were old.
MichaelCaitlin was old enough to.
MichaelTo babysit her sister.
DianeAnd yeah, we.
DianeWe didn't go very far either for dinner.
DianeIt wasn't like we were gone that way.
MichaelYeah, very small town and so forth.
MichaelSo we weren't putting our kids in danger or leaving them.
DianeNo, no.
MichaelAnd everybody.
MichaelBut then everybody in town knew I was a cop anyway.
MichaelAnd you know, there was an assistant district attorney living behind us.
MichaelAnd.
DianeSo when this happened, you know, they said, well, she was nice.
DianeAnd she, you know, seemed to like she was trying to take care of us or something.
DianeThat's how they felt.
DianeSo I think it was only a few weeks, maybe a month after this happened.
DianeI was, of course, running late for work, because that was always the thing.
DianeAnd I was looking for a pair of socks.
DianeI needed my socks.
DianeI need to get my shoes on.
DianeYou remember this?
MichaelYes, I do remember this.
DianeOh, my God.
DianeI'm getting.
DianeI'm, like, just thinking about.
DianeOkay, so our laundry room was in the downstairs part, the basement part.
DianeAnd I run down there.
DianeI go into the dryer, which.
DianeThe dryer was kind of over here.
DianeThe washing machine was over here.
DianeThey weren't.
DianeThey weren't side by side.
DianeIt was a weird.
DianeIt was an old house.
DianeIt was just a weird setup.
DianeSo the dryer's on the other side and the washers away from it.
DianeAnd I knew that I just washed them, so I knew they were there.
DianeSo I go in the dryer, and I'm looking for these socks.
DianeI'm looking for these socks.
DianeI'm looking.
DianeI'm looking for.
DianeI'm digging out everything for these socks.
DianeThey are not there.
DianeAnd I'm like, I just put them in last night.
DianeI know they're here.
DianeI'm late for work.
DianeSo I slam the dryer, and I turn around and look at the washing machine.
DianeAnd on top of the washing machine are the socks side by side, perfectly ironed, flat.
MichaelLike, I want to know how it goes to iron socks.
DianeI don't know, because obviously they don't even come out of the dryer looking ironed.
DianeThey looked flat, ironed, perfect.
DianeAnd side by side, like, even the feet were facing the right directions on top of the washing machine.
MichaelAnd I'll tell you, we had two cats.
MichaelAnd these cats never were really freaked out in the house.
MichaelThey, you know, usually cats are very observant when it comes to that.
MichaelYou know, they really didn't freak out around the house.
MichaelActually, we had three, when you count Max.
MichaelMax was there first, and then we had Sassy Dakota after Max passed away.
MichaelAnd, you know, there really wasn't a whole lot of issue, but, you know, history is that, you know, this house, Woodland park, is at the top of Ute Pass.
MichaelUte Pass was an area where Native Americans travel from, like, Manitou Springs and up from Garden of the Gods and from the Cave of the Winds and from the cliff dwellings and everything, and had that's where they traveled up to Woodland Park.
MichaelSo, you know, there's a lot of history there.
MichaelThere's a lot of.
DianeTo the land.
MichaelTo the land.
MichaelThere's history to the land, and there's history to the land for settlers as well.
MichaelSome, you know, Western settlers.
MichaelSo.
MichaelWell, you know.
DianeYeah, I.
DianeAnd I didn't.
DianeI was just like, oh, okay.
DianeThank you.
DianeI appreciate your help.
DianeI grabbed the socks and I ran back upstairs.
DianeAnd I'm like, you're not gonna believe what happened.
DianeI don't have time to tell you, but this is crazy.
DianeSo after that, I just kind of always just talked to her, you know, and said, hey, you know, thanks for the.
DianeThanks for the assistance and thanks for watching over the girls.
DianeAnd, you know, and then I think it was after that that Katie moved her room downstairs like you had moved your office, and she moved her room in there.
DianeAnd she did not sleep well downstairs at all.
DianeShe did not sleep.
DianeShe didn't like it.
DianeAnd I know the first.
DianeThe first night we spent there, actually, she was just a baby and you and I.
DianeAnd she spent the night on the living room floor.
DianeI mean, we didn't have any furniture or anything.
DianeI felt it.
DianeI felt many things going on.
DianeLike it was.
MichaelThat was an empty house.
MichaelAnd the.
MichaelWe had skylights, huge 4 by 8 skylights across the whole roof so you could look up and see the stars.
MichaelYou know, that's.
MichaelI missed looking up and seeing all those stories.
MichaelYou can.
MichaelIt was like at the top of the.
MichaelIt's like being in an observatory.
MichaelYou could see so many of them.
MichaelBut, you know, and realistically, there was the.
MichaelYou know, we felt over the years that there was some stuff that was really negative that was showing up there.
MichaelAnd in fact, so much so that we had a friend of mine, I worked a lot with some individuals, not just work, but I had known many Native Americans down in the Mountaineer Springs area and the Cave of the Winds and cliff dwelling area and Colorado Springs, west side Colorado Springs and so forth.
MichaelAnd a friend of mine, very good friend of mine, Robert Taltree, he's one of the very few recognized medicine men for the tribe and for the whole tribe in the whole western region.
MichaelAnd he and his wife came up and they ended up cleaning, clearing the land in our house for us with a Native American ceremony because, I mean, Nikki was waking up with night terrors.
MichaelAnd, you know, although the Victorian lady seemed to be okay, but, you know, we started.
DianeThe rest of them didn't seem to be negative.
MichaelYeah, negative stuff.
MichaelThat was coming through, some evil type things that were coming through.
MichaelWe'd hear growls, we'd hear, you know.
MichaelYeah, you could see shadows and, you know, you watch some of these ghost shows talk about shadows and moving around.
MichaelWe could see the shadows moving around and so forth.
DianeI don't know how.
DianeHow we stayed there that long, but we did.
MichaelWell, we.
MichaelAgain, it helped having, you know, a medicine man come and, you know, do this for us.
MichaelAnd he.
MichaelThey walked the whole property and had a drum and they were smudging.
DianeWe'd been in the house.
DianeIt was.
DianeI mean, they came later, like when we were probably, what year 13.
DianeLike that, you think?
DianeYeah, it didn't feel like that to me.
DianeWell, if we live there much longer with all this going on, but.
MichaelWell, I mean, it had to be.
MichaelIt was.
MichaelIt was before I retired.
MichaelSo I retired in 99.
DianeWell, we.
DianeWe lived there 15 years and we moved out in 2004 shortly after you.
DianeOh, well, I guess not.
DianeYou had been retired 99.
DianeSo.
MichaelSo, you know, it.
MichaelIt was five or six years before we moved out because I was just.
MichaelI've been diagnosed with rheumatoid, you know, and she was going to help me with my hand.
MichaelShe's always looking my hand and she's gonna always.
DianeThat's right.
DianeThat's right.
MichaelAnd that kind of a thing.
MichaelSo.
MichaelBut yeah, I want to talk about the first time you've had an experience, but I could pause.
MichaelSo, you know, we've known each.
MichaelWe've known each other for a little more than 35 years.
MichaelWe've been married for 35 years.
MichaelSo, you know, obviously we've had experiences of our own together as a family, as a couple, as a family, which we'll talk a little bit more about.
MichaelBut that's one of the reasons why on here, on.
MichaelOne more thing before you go.
MichaelI bring on people who have experiences like that, as well as people who.
MichaelMediums and psychics and supernatural individuals and experts within this industry that I feel can educate, inspire, motivate people with regard to the supernatural and the paranormal.
MichaelBecause I believe that there is a veil here and that that veil gets thinner and it's getting thinner and thinner anyway, but I think during Halloween, it gets a little bit more thinner so that there's more activity goes.
MichaelAnd as a cop, Halloween used to be, you know, the times that I.
MichaelThat I.
MichaelI was lucky enough to work, stay home, but there were also times that unfortunately I had to work quite a bit.
MichaelAnd through both the county and through, you know, the police department.
MichaelSo you would see a spike in this type of thing and calls for this and you know, people sneaking in the cemetery and trying to do stuff.
MichaelAnd you know, in our areas we had everything from there.
MichaelSo Satanist cult down in the cemetery right now, sacrificing a baby and you know, and all kinds of junk like that.
MichaelBut never found that, by the way.
DianeJust good.
DianeI'm glad to know that.
MichaelBut you know, you would see an uptick in things and you would also, you know, it was just a feeling.
MichaelWhat was your first ever?
MichaelI mean, I told you and I'll tell you about it in a minute, but what was your first ever kind of supernatural paranormal experience?
DianeYeah, the first one I know I can remember, I was about nine, I think, and had been a couple of years.
DianeProbably a couple years since my great grandmother had passed away.
DianeAnd my great grandmother was.
DianeSo my great grandparents built the house they lived in in California.
DianeAnd they also built a house on the other part of the lot.
DianeAnd they painted it pink.
DianeI don't know why, but we all called it the pink house.
DianeAnd that was actually my first home.
DianeSo I.
DianeFor the first few years of my life, I saw my great grandparents a lot.
DianeAnd we were still living in California when she passed away.
DianeI think we moved the next year to Colorado.
DianeSo we were in Colorado at the time.
DianeAnd I was like nine, maybe eight.
DianeEight or nine.
DianeAnd I remember coming out of my parents bedroom and looking down the hallway and she's just right there.
DianeLike she's right there.
MichaelAnd your great grandmother?
DianeMy great grandmother.
DianeAnd the best way to describe it, I mean, stop me in my tracks, she looked like a hologram.
DianeI mean, that was the best way to describe it.
DianeIt was detailed enough that I, I mean it was her.
DianeIt was 100 her.
DianeAnd I even said.
DianeI even said, grandma, is that you?
DianeAnd she just, she, she didn't say anything.
DianeShe nodded and smiled and I was like, I can't believe.
DianeLike I can't believe you're here.
DianeAnd I mean, I just, I don't even.
DianeI think that's all I said.
DianeLike, I couldn't even get the words out.
DianeAnd it didn't scare me.
DianeIt was just like, wow, this is cool, you know, and she just kind of smiled and then just faded.
MichaelShe was gone and just gone.
MichaelAnd that's.
MichaelI mean, how'd that make you feel this time?
MichaelYou tell anybody?
MichaelSo you told your dad?
DianeI told my mom.
DianeDad.
DianeAnd of course they didn't believe me, especially my dad.
DianeLike, no, you Know, my mom just.
DianeI don't know if she would believe me or just kind of blew it off, but.
MichaelWell, your mom also grew up very, very religious and from a very, very strict religious family.
MichaelA lot of times they don't believe in that stuff.
MichaelAnd, you know, I grew up Catholic, in which I've spoken about many, many times on the show, that.
MichaelThat the type of environment I grew up in, you weren't supposed to believe in that kind of stuff.
MichaelAnd that just didn't happen, didn't exist.
DianeI think back on it, I'm thinking, you know, if they had actually, like, believed me or, you know, kind of encouraged that, I mean, I don't know where I'd be because we'll get into more.
DianeWe'll talk more about the stuff that I've also experienced, but could have been a whole different life for me, you know.
MichaelWell, it is.
MichaelI think that.
MichaelAnd again, I've talked about this on the show quite a bit as well.
MichaelThe fact is that as kids, society and culture, unfortunately, we as children growing up, when we have experiences like that, society and culture has shut them down for the most.
MichaelAt least here in America, for the most part, shut them down.
MichaelAnd most of them, it's like, well, you can't do that.
MichaelYou can't see that you don't have an imaginary friend, even though you may be.
MichaelAnd I've spoken to mediums and psychics that said, well, yeah, it wasn't an imaginary friend.
MichaelIt was actually somebody I was talking to.
MichaelAnd they thought it was my imaginary friend type thing.
MichaelBut then they tell you, you can't do that.
MichaelYou can't have imaginary friend.
MichaelIt shuts them down and shuts it off.
MichaelSo there's.
MichaelThere are people that have had experiences like this that are afraid to talk about it because they're afraid of the ramifications, especially from their family members that specifically said it doesn't exist.
MichaelYou know, when you die, you either.
MichaelIt's one of three things, at least in Catholic religion.
MichaelYou either go to heaven, you go to hell, you go in purgatory, and, you know, purgatory, you wander the earth.
MichaelWell, here's some shocker news for everybody out there who thinks purgatory, you know, believes in purgatory and wanders the earth.
MichaelWell, that's the shadows you see, that's the people you see.
MichaelThat's the ghost you see.
MichaelSo even they kind of contradicted their selves, didn't they?
MichaelJust a wee bit, because there it is.
MichaelAnd, you know, I think that there are Spirits here that have unfinished business.
MichaelI do believe in evil spirits and negative entities.
MichaelAnd we've talked about fallen angels.
MichaelYou know, here we had the one episode we did that I did here with Angel Talker that we were talking about fallen angels and dark angels and that, you know, when you.
MichaelThat they're here, they try to influence you, they try to motivate you, they try to, you know, entice you to the dark side, so to speak.
MichaelAnd I didn't even hear the episode.
MichaelI'll have to reference the episode in the show notes, but there's an extended version of the episode.
MichaelWe'd released one episode, the original one, without it, but when I was editing it, you know, I said, hey, could you listen to this, see what you think?
MichaelAnd left it with you for a minute.
MichaelAnd I had to go do some necessities.
MichaelAnd when I came back out, you go, did you hear this?
MichaelDid you hear this?
MichaelDid you hear this?
MichaelDid you see this?
MichaelAnd I went, no, you got it.
MichaelWhat are you talking about?
MichaelAnd you, you played it for me.
MichaelAnd clearly we were having.
DianeClear as a bell.
MichaelYeah.
MichaelTechnical issues and technical problems because she was telling me about the dark angels and everything about the dark angels and what they did and what they meant.
DianeAnd, you know, and you kept having, you kept having technical issues, screwing with the episode.
MichaelExactly.
MichaelAll the time.
DianeRight.
MichaelAnd in fact, it, it kept freezing and it kept locking up and we had to keep trying to go back to it.
MichaelAnd it.
MichaelWhile I was sitting here waiting for her to come back and so forth, there was clearly a deep throated, nasty ass growl that.
MichaelAnd it was clear as day when heard the raw video.
MichaelIt was clear as day and it was like, whoa.
MichaelAnd I reached back out to her and she's a celebrity psychic medium.
MichaelAnd again, I'll leave reference in the, in the show notes about how to find that episode.
MichaelBut yeah, it was kind of, kind of crazy.
MichaelAnd you know, to me it's.
MichaelIt was like.
MichaelIt was theoretically, because my microphone's right in front of me and it's a directional microphone, which means if I go over here and I'm talking, my voice goes away very much.
MichaelWhen I come back here, you hear much more straight on voice and so forth.
MichaelAnd they were over my head.
DianeYeah.
MichaelSo, you know.
MichaelYeah, just kind of.
DianeWhich then reminded you of what you experienced when you were.
MichaelReminded me of when I was about 12 years old.
MichaelYeah.
MichaelYou know, I grew up in a very dysfunctional family.
MichaelOf course, I think I mentioned that before, but I also grew up in one that, you know, my father believed in it wholeheartedly.
MichaelMy mother shirked Catholic.
MichaelBut when I grew up, I was a latchkey kid.
MichaelAnd, you know, we spent a lot of time, me and my brother, we spent a lot of time.
DianeYou hear him growls, I literally am.
DianeBut I don't know, maybe.
DianeMaybe it was a car or something outside.
DianeLiterally, there was something that just.
DianeOkay, go ahead.
MichaelSo there was an evening where my brother and I were there by ourselves and I was downstairs.
MichaelI had a room downstairs in our house.
MichaelAnd in Colorado, when you have a basement, it's a basement.
MichaelYou know, you have.
MichaelUsually you have windows that are.
MichaelYou can look up through, or they are ground.
MichaelYou know, you can see the ground through the window.
MichaelIt's ground level type thing.
MichaelSo anyway, we're down in the basement.
MichaelAnd the reason I say that is because they're typically darker, you know, so that, you know, it's not like an upstairs room where you've got a much more lighter ambient light or, or, you know, this kind of thing.
MichaelSo they're.
MichaelThey're darker or they have to be well lit through your own lighting, whether it be ceiling lighting or whatever the case may be.
MichaelBut, you know, I was laying on my bed and I can't remember what was going on.
MichaelBut, you know, I ended up feeling a presence in the room with me.
MichaelAnd in feeling that presence in the room with me, I got up and I turned around and I was right in front of me.
MichaelAnd I know people are going to never believe this, but right in front of me was a demon.
MichaelAnd I can describe him to you.
DianeYou've drawn him?
MichaelI've drawn the pictures before.
MichaelIs that vivid to me?
MichaelAnd it's still, to this day, is vivid.
MichaelI can still close my eyes and see it.
MichaelAnd had big horns and scaly skin and, you know, glowing eyes and, you know, all the stuff that you hear about in the scary movies, though, that's exactly what was in my face.
MichaelAnd, you know, the head, gnarly teeth and drooling and backed me up against the wall and, you know, we had a conversation and he was right in my face, about three inches from my face.
MichaelI could smell the sulfur and the nasty smells and everything along with it.
DianeAnd so what was the conversation?
MichaelI don't fully recall the whole conversation, but it was.
MichaelHe was basically trying to entice me into the.
MichaelAn evil side of life and, you know, and kind of a thing.
MichaelAnd I think that, you know, part of, you know, my father was a bad alcoholic and I Think that that had something to do with that as well.
MichaelI think that by that time though, the.
MichaelThey had split up.
MichaelMy mother and my father had split up.
MichaelBut you know, they.
MichaelWe never really, we never really knew why he was drinking as much as he was drinking.
MichaelBut I think that it had association to that is what I'm thinking and so forth.
MichaelSo, you know, I basically did my best to rebuke it and say that, you know, basically f you and I'm not going to do what you're telling me to do and I'm not going to do what you are trying to do and you know, you need to leave this house and.
DianeWow.
DianeYeah, that's scary at any age, but at 12 years old, that's.
MichaelYeah, it was pretty crazy.
MichaelHad me backed up right to the wall.
MichaelAnd I say the smells, the sights, the sounds, the feeling, the apprehension, the.
MichaelEverything that's associated with it.
MichaelSo I've never forgotten it.
MichaelBut you know, when I get to conversations like this and I think I've mentioned it, I may have mentioned it a couple times in conversation with some of these psychics and mediums and you know, they absolutely said it was a demon and the demon was there to cause trouble and so forth.
DianeDid you ever.
DianeDid you ever experience it again or that was it?
MichaelThat was it because I said, I think that they found that I was not, not trying to sound egotistical, but I was not, I was not prone to, you know, it wasn't going to happen.
MichaelBasically.
DianeYou were not a willing participant in that.
MichaelI'm not willing to participate in that and so forth.
MichaelSo, you know, it.
MichaelWhich, you know, who knows, the way my brother is at the moment, maybe it followed him home and stayed with him, not following him home.
MichaelBut you know, I don't know.
MichaelBut it was, that was my first experience with that.
MichaelAnd you know, there, you know, a couple times, a few times after that I've had experiences where I heard, you know, voices and seen shadows and things like that as continuing to grow up and you know, but nothing as intense.
MichaelNot nothing that intense, but I can absolutely say, 100% say how that was just, you know, this huge, horned, you know, nasty sulfur breath, drooling demon was right in my face and.
DianeAnd that.
DianeThat was your first experience?
MichaelThat was my first experience.
DianeSo, yeah, my comparing first experiences, I think I came out the winner there.
MichaelYou got your great grandma, I got my what the hell.
DianeWow.
MichaelFrom hell.
MichaelYeah, kind of thing.
MichaelBut you know, at the same time, it also had taught me in my life that you know, no matter what come on up to or whatever I'm up, I'm faced with is that if I, you know, I beat that.
DianeYou could beat anything.
MichaelI could beat anything.
MichaelIt gave me a fortitude and the strength to be able to.
MichaelMy faith, you know, allowed me to.
MichaelBecause that was faith.
MichaelI had a lot of faith in angels anyway, because it'd been with me in the past and at different points in my lifetime and even as a child, and mostly as a child.
MichaelSo is one of those things where you said to have faith with that.
MichaelIt still makes me a little nervous, but, you know, it's.
DianeOh, yeah.
DianeBut it also, the times you've talked about it, you.
DianeYou start talking about it like, you know, very matter of fact.
DianeAnd by the end of it, you're.
DianeYou can tell or I can tell that you're like, okay, don't.
DianeDon't want to revisit that again.
DianeDon't want to talk about that.
MichaelIt also, you know, that's why when we watch a scary, scary, scary movie and everybody else jumps at it, it really does bother me.
DianeRight.
MichaelLike watching the nun in the middle of the movie screen and Mickey climbs behind me.
MichaelIt's, you know, it's kind of one of those things you kind of have, but that, you know, and I've had experiences, you know, off and on throughout that, where I hear voices, where I feel presences or, you know, that's why I clear the house every night, because I'll feel the presence and I'll feel.
MichaelI'll feel the bed.
MichaelI've told you before, I feel like somebody's sitting down on the bed or pushing on the bed right beside me or trying to sit down and so forth and.
MichaelOr push down by my feet kind of a thing.
MichaelAnd you're in bed and, you know, it's not you and it's not Charlie, and there's nobody else in the house.
MichaelYou're not supposed to be kind of a thing, but you can feel it.
MichaelYou can see it.
MichaelYou can actually feel the bed.
DianeI feel the bed shake sometimes.
MichaelYeah.
DianeThe end of the bed.
MichaelSo a lot of times we also have positive energies in here as well.
MichaelSo we've had positive people, positive entities that have come in and that we've noticed about.
MichaelSo it's not all about the.
MichaelJust the scary ass shit, but we've had positive things go.
MichaelAs a cop, you know, there were several places that we responded to that were allegedly haunted that, you know, there was one place in itself, Cliff House, and that had burned down twice, and many, many people were killed in both of those.
MichaelFrom.
MichaelIt was built in the 1800s, and then it burned down.
MichaelIt was built again, rebuilt in the 1900s, and then again, it recently was redone, but probably 10 or 12 years ago, they remodeled it and rebuilt it.
MichaelBut, you know, I hated going into that place.
MichaelEvery time I went to that place, we get a call, you know, and we went in there and found people doing cult stuff and Satanist stuff and that kind of crap.
MichaelBut, you know, I hated going into the Cliff House on a call in there because it was like, what the hell am I gonna run into in here?
MichaelSituation.
MichaelAnd you could feel the presence.
DianeYeah.
DianeAnd you're open to that, especially with what you experienced.
DianeYou.
DianeYou were already open to it, so you knew that, you know, if it was something bad, you were going to experience it so.
MichaelWell, exactly.
MichaelAnd, you know, and you could feel the hair on the back of your neck rise up when you know they're behind you and you feel like somebody behind you.
MichaelIt's like, I know somebody's back there kind of a thing.
MichaelSo, you know, and it's.
MichaelIt is.
MichaelLike I said, it's.
MichaelIt's better than the negative ones.
MichaelSo, you know, when you have the negative ones, it is one of those things that stick with you quite a bit, actually.
DianeYep.
MichaelYou know, kind of.
MichaelAnd even.
MichaelAnd even in this house, I mean, there's been times that we kind of go.
MichaelThere was a shadow.
MichaelWe saw a shadow walk by, or we felt something walk by, or Charlie.
DianeCharlie will just suddenly stare, stare.
DianeAnd you can't get him to stop.
DianeLike, you cannot.
DianeHe.
DianeHe's not.
DianeHe won't listen to us at all.
MichaelSomething else or somebody else kind of a thing.
MichaelAnd, you know, he does that quite a bit as well, which is kind of like crap.
DianeWell, and then even.
DianeI mean, as stupid as the automatic trash can that we have, you know, I know it's down.
DianeIt's shut when we go to bed, and then I'll come out in the morning, and it's wide open.
MichaelAnd it's wide open.
DianeAnd the only thing that opens it is motion.
DianeSo.
MichaelYeah.
DianeYou know, and then we've also, you know, we have that camera that's set up in the living room, and you used to have the app.
DianeI don't know if we still do that.
MichaelI do.
DianeOkay.
DianeSo we.
DianeThere's been times if we start hearing things, we'll open up the app.
DianeWe're in bed.
DianeWe'll open up the app and see that it's like just orbs, orbs everywhere in the camera.
MichaelSo anybody that knows, for those of you that don't know what an orb is, okay, if you watch one of these ghost adventure shows or you watch any one of the ghost hunting shows, or listen to the people that I've interviewed on this show, and orb is a spirit that's a, you'll, you'll see them, the energy move in a round sphere and it doesn't move like dust and it doesn't move like a bug.
MichaelIt doesn't move.
MichaelI mean, it moves very methodically and you can see it very clearly and distinctly as a round orb.
MichaelAnd yeah, we've, we have had.
MichaelWe can watch them.
MichaelWe just literally watch them.
MichaelAnd you'll see some of them that will move around and spin back around, like go up and then turn around and come back down again.
MichaelAnd you know, the type of video we've, we've got, you know, the 4K video, you can tell it's not a bug and it's definitely not dust.
MichaelSo, you know, that happens.
MichaelAnd then we've got, you know, we've got this little program from a guy that Huff paranormal.
MichaelThose individuals that are on YouTube right now, which you can see, they kind of talk to the other side.
MichaelThey created, this guy created a, an app that literally allows you to.
MichaelBecause they talk on a different frequency and they can talk to you, they can say things to you and so forth and you can hear them.
DianeSo although we don't typically, it's hard to understand them for the most part.
MichaelYeah.
MichaelTo be honest, there's lots of stuff that does that come out though, that really, you can get clear, distinct wording and so forth.
MichaelSo occasionally we'll do that if we feel something's in the house.
DianeYeah, usually.
DianeUsually what's come through clearly more than once is when we ask them how many spirits are here and they'll say.
MichaelA number and they'll say seven.
DianeDefinitely.
DianeYeah, you can definitely tell.
DianeAnd then you ask them again and they say the same number.
MichaelYeah.
DianeSo it doesn't change.
DianeYeah, I'm getting really.
MichaelOr if you ask if it's a male or a female or an adult or a child, you know, we'll get answers that'll say that it is or it isn't.
MichaelSo, yeah, it's, it's, you know, it's when you're an empath and when you kind of leave yourself open to that type of thing, I think it leaves the door open.
MichaelYou used to look how many times that you Used to be laying in bed and you'd have voices showing up in the room and trying to talk to you that you knew were from the other side.
MichaelAnd psychics have said that those are mediums, have said that they're there for a message for.
MichaelTo talk through you.
DianeYeah, I know.
DianeI remember it, and I remember writing down.
DianeI don't know where I put them, but I used to write down, especially if it was really detailed, that I would write everything down.
DianeBut at the time, I was.
DianeI was studying for my degree, so I was working full time and going to school full time, and I just didn't have the time.
DianeIt's like, I just.
DianeI can't.
DianeYou've got to let me sleep.
DianeYou got to let me sleep.
DianeI'm sorry.
DianeI'll let you know when you can come back.
DianeAnd I did.
DianeI.
DianeWhen I was done, I was like, okay, you know, you guys can come.
DianeAnd they never do.
DianeI haven't.
DianeI've never heard it since they found.
MichaelSomebody else to come talk to or to talk to them or listen to them or something along that line.
MichaelBut, yeah, it's pretty.
MichaelI mean, it's obviously, you know, experience experiences with the supernatural and the paranormal.
MichaelI think that you have to be open to understanding that they exist and that, you know, there's.
MichaelI've been grateful for the people that have come on this show that have had these experiences.
MichaelYou know, the Ghost Sisters and the Ghost Biker that.
MichaelI brought her on, you know, several times, and, you know, it.
MichaelThe stories.
MichaelThe Ma Barker story blows me away because she went to Ma Barker's house and in sitting at that house, this is where the.
MichaelI think just the Ma Barker episode with Chris Sumner from Paranormal Sisters is like a really, really good episode.
DianeIs it Paranormal Sisters or Ghost Sisters?
MichaelBecause you said Paranormal Sisters.
MichaelGhost Biker.
DianeParanormal Sisters.
DianeGhost Biker and Paranormal Sister, two separate.
DianeBut they.
DianeSometimes they do things together.
MichaelThey do.
MichaelIn fact, they own a haunted.
MichaelThey bought a jail in Tennessee, an old, like, jail from 1800s, and they bought it together.
MichaelAnd now it's a museum as well as them giving tours.
MichaelTheir haunted tours through it as well.
MichaelBut.
MichaelAnd they traveled all over the place.
MichaelThey were at the Allegheny Mental Hospital and I mean, all over.
MichaelAll over the east coast, especially, you know, the whole slew of them.
MichaelAnd then.
MichaelYes, go back to the show and, you know, type in paranormal or Supernatural.
MichaelAnd there's a ton of shows that.
DianeA lot.
MichaelYeah.
MichaelThat we can reference the different.
MichaelMany, many different stories that have come out of those with regard to the Reality of the existence of, you know, spirits and ghosts and what's on the other side and what's good and evil as well.
DianeIt's funny because we might get into conversations sometimes at work about the stuff.
DianeAnd when people find out the way I feel about it and the way I believe, they just.
DianeMost of them are like, you know, so I don't really talk about it that much.
DianeSo I don't know if they see this episode, then they'll know for sure.
MichaelBut society and culture, again, it goes back to society and culture in the way you're raised.
MichaelBecause a lot of times in culture, they.
MichaelThey say you're not allowed to believe in that stuff.
MichaelYou know, you're not allowed to believe in reincarnation, you're not allowed to believe in spirits.
MichaelYou're not allowed to be even ghost.
MichaelAnd then if you believe in them.
MichaelOkay.
MichaelBut you're not authorized to talk to them.
DianeYeah.
MichaelKind of situation, so.
DianeWell, I think it has gotten better though, with all of the.
DianeI mean, look at how many ghost hunting shows are on and they're, I mean, for years, you know, and they have a very big audience and still going strong.
DianeYeah.
DianeAnd even podcasts that are specifically to that, you know, they're.
DianeThey're some of the most listened to podcasts.
DianeSo I think it is definitely better now.
DianeYou know, people are more open to it now.
DianeBut, you know, there's the one other experience I talked about that real quick, that when we were talking to the girls about this the other day, talking that we wanted to maybe do this, and they were.
DianeAnd we were thinking, well, maybe they do it with us.
DianeAnd they were like, well, we don't really have very many, but the one.
DianeThey immediately went to this one.
DianeAnd it was shortly after your stepdad Burl passed away.
DianeAnd the girls and I were in the car and we were in Woodland park of all places.
MichaelAnd just for the record, they.
MichaelThey grew up with Burl as Grandpa.
MichaelNot step, but they grew up with Burl as grandpa.
MichaelSo they knew him as Grandpa.
DianeThey.
DianeYour.
DianeYour mom and Pearl watch the girls, they babysat the girls for from when they were little, teeny, tiny babies.
DianeSo they were very, very close to him.
DianeAnd the girls and I were in the car and we were at a stoplight in Woodland park.
DianeAnd all of a sudden the radio, because we always had the radio on, started getting staticky.
DianeLike really, really loud, loud static.
DianeAnd then the static stopped and our car was filled with Burl singing.
DianeAnd he was a singer.
DianeHe used to sing Irish Songs, Irish songs.
DianeHe was a Irish tenor, right?
MichaelIrish tenor.
DianeSo it just filled it.
DianeAnd we were just looking at each other like, am I the only one hearing that?
DianeLike, what is happening?
DianeAnd it lasted for probably a good 10 seconds, 12 seconds.
DianeAnd we were just like, shocked.
DianeWe were.
DianeWe were just in shock.
MichaelYeah.
DianeAnd.
DianeAnd that was the first.
DianeI mean, when we talked to him about you the other day, the girls, both of them, immediately.
DianeThat's the one they went to.
DianeSo I know what happened.
DianeI know it was real.
MichaelWell, look what I mean.
MichaelYour father passed away here.
MichaelYou got in the car and there was something on the radio that you felt was a message from your father, didn't you?
DianeOh, well, that.
DianeYeah, that was.
DianeYeah, that was last year.
DianeMight have been last year.
MichaelYeah.
MichaelThis is right after he fell asleep, right after he died, when you guys got in the car from Target, after I called you.
DianeYou keep telling me about this, and I don't.
DianeHonestly, I don't remember this at all.
DianeSo you'll have to say it.
MichaelWell, basically, I remember when I called you because you and your mother were shopping at Target and he had asked you, he told you go out.
MichaelHe told your mother to go out.
DianeI hadn't.
DianeI had been staying because we knew it was going to be any time that he was going to pass.
DianeI had stayed in the house.
DianeI hadn't gone anywhere for like a solid week.
DianeLike, I just.
DianeI don't even think I took a shower.
DianeLike, I was just.
DianeI was going to be there, and he just didn't want me there.
DianeAnd so when he was cognitive, he.
DianeHe made sure that I was out of the house and he wanted.
DianeHe's.
DianeI don't remember him telling us.
DianeI think he might have said something to you, and you were like, your dad wants you to go, or what?
DianeI don't remember exactly.
DianeSo we were at Target, and I don't think we'd even been there.
DianeWe didn't think we'd been there 20 minutes when you.
MichaelProbably 20 minutes at least.
MichaelProbably 15 or 20 minutes.
MichaelYeah.
DianeYeah.
DianeAnd so it happened pretty quick.
DianeBut I remember being.
DianeYou keep telling me the story about that I came in and said something about being in the car, but my.
MichaelMind was, you come in and you said that you were in the car and that you and your mother were getting ready to come here and that, you know, over the radio, you heard, you know, you heard something over the radio.
MichaelLike, it sound like your father telling you that everything is.
MichaelWas fine.
DianeWhy do I remember that?
MichaelYeah.
MichaelAnd that you know, you heard.
MichaelYou said, I heard Dad's voice.
MichaelAnd I just, you know.
DianeWow.
DianeI literally don't remember that.
DianeBut if I came in and said it right, then I'm sure it happened.
DianeI just, for some reason, don't know why that wouldn't be a core memory.
DianeBut.
DianeBut maybe.
DianeMaybe that's why this other thing happened.
DianeLike, I don't know if it was this year or last year, but I drive my dad's car, so his car is my car.
DianeIt's been my car, and I don't want to get rid of it.
DianeIt has a six.
DianeA six CD changer thing in it, and I don't listen.
DianeOh, yeah, that's okay.
MichaelNo, I mean, six CD changer.
DianeIt's a 2002.
DianeIt's a 2002.
DianeOkay.
DianeAll right.
DianeSo anyway, it's got a six CD changer in it.
DianeI don't listen to CDs.
DianeI just don't because it's too hot here to leave CDs in the car.
MichaelAnd.
DianeOkay, so I'm driving to work.
MichaelWhich is another ironic reason for what you're about to say.
DianeYes.
DianeSo I'm driving to work, and all of a sudden, the song.
DianeWhat was the song?
MichaelIt's country song.
DianeNo, it was a song they don't play very often.
DianeAnd I believe it was a Rita Coolidge song from the 70s.
DianeAnd it was literally.
DianeOh, no, no, no, I'm sorry, it wasn't Rita Coolidge.
DianeIt was a Donna Summer song.
DianeI think it was.
DianeI think it was Hot Stuff or something.
DianeI don't know.
DianeBut I.
DianeAs soon as it started playing.
DianeWhich they never play that song.
DianeAs soon as I started playing, I went right back to being a kid.
DianeAnd I had that.
DianeI had a lot of.
DianeI had, like, a collection of 45 records that I would play all the time.
DianeAnd that was one of my favorite songs.
DianeOf course, it was like I was a kid.
DianeI know what it meant.
DianeBut anyway, I love the song.
DianeSo I had this memory.
DianeIt went right back to my dad.
DianeIt's not gonna be a great memory, but my dad would say when I go in and.
DianeOr he'd hear me singing.
DianeNot necessarily hot stuff, but all kinds of songs.
DianeAnd I remember him saying to me, yeah, you're kind of tone deaf.
DianeYou probably shouldn't try to do that as a career or something.
DianeSomething like that.
DianeI was like 10, 11 years old.
DianeI don't know.
DianeYeah, I was probably 10 or 11.
DianeSo, you know, not a great memory.
DianeLike your dad telling you Your singing sucks.
DianeBut immediately after that memory, I pushed.
DianeI always push the buttons on the car.
DianeI know where my radio stations are.
DianeThey're preset.
DianeI know exactly where they are.
DianeI don't have to look.
DianeSome reason I missed the button and I hit the eject on the CD.
DianeAnd all of a sudden the CDs start coming out of the car, like one by one.
DianeAnd I'm like, what is.
DianeWhat is going on?
DianeI had to pull over because there was these CDs just spitting out as I'm driving.
DianeSo I pull over and they were all his CDs.
DianeEvery single one of them belonged there.
DianeAnd they hadn't melted, and they hadn't melted in years.
DianeLike, they had been in the CD player since 2016 in this.
MichaelAnd this was last year.
MichaelHot 110, 115 degrees.
DianeYep.
DianeAnd I didn't know they were there.
DianeI had no idea.
DianeAnd so, yeah.
DianeAnd so I kind of took that as.
DianeSince it happened so quickly with that bad memory, I took that as dad saying he was sorry.
DianeAnd, you know, it's all good and you can sing.
MichaelSo there you go.
MichaelThat's the way to do.
MichaelWell, that's a nice, happy way to end the episode.
MichaelI guess it's a nice, good memory.
MichaelBetter than one where, you know, you're looking at the mirror and your mother's face comes screaming out of the mirror at you.
DianeThat never happened.
MichaelNo, I'm just saying it's better than having one of those, right?
MichaelOh, yeah.
MichaelSee, I didn't tell you about mom, did I?
MichaelOh, I forgot to tell you.
MichaelI forgot to tell you.
DianeMom visited me.
MichaelYeah, mom visited.
MichaelShe says hi.
DianeOh, God.
MichaelSorry, Mom.
MichaelIf you're listening.
DianeNo, she wouldn't do that.
MichaelOh, she might do it for fun, maybe.
MichaelYeah, he might do it for fun.
MichaelThat's about it.
MichaelWell, listen, I.
MichaelIt is a.
MichaelThis is a little bit of memory, a little bit of reminiscing, a little bit of.
MichaelMaybe they weren't completely really, really, really scary as would be.
MichaelBut you know when I wish there's a picture of the demon that I should have put the picture of the demon up to show everybody, but.
MichaelYeah, just.
MichaelYou can draw picture of this big old nasty ass thing with a mouth hanging out, almost like alien.
MichaelLike the alien when he gets down in front of.
MichaelIn front of Sigourney Weaver's face on the spaceship and he's drooling and.
MichaelAnd everything like this.
MichaelNow, this is obviously way before that movie even came out, but, you know, a little more screwed up mouth with a lot more sharper teeth and then horns that just went up and over and then wrapped around and, you know, spiky, nasty, scaly, you know, going, I'm going to get you.
MichaelNo, no, I want your soul.
DianeThat's what he was saying.
MichaelYes.
MichaelI said in my favorite Scottish accent, you can't have it.
MichaelSo.
MichaelYeah, it is.
MichaelYeah.
MichaelSo yeah, that's, that's, that's the memory that sticks with me, that's for damn sure.
MichaelThen that would to me.
DianeGo ahead.
MichaelTo me.
MichaelTo me, a 12 year old that was, you know, scared, you know, fighting.
MichaelSo I didn't pee my pants though.
MichaelSo that's good.
MichaelDid not do that.
MichaelDid not.
DianeOkay.
MichaelDid not.
DianeWell, I think we're going to clear the house tonight for sure.
MichaelOh, absolutely.
MichaelClear the house tonight.
MichaelWell, everybody hope you have a happy, wonderful Halloween and that you're safe and you're sound and make sure that you wearing reflective clothing if you're taking your kids out before you cross the street and check the candy.
MichaelAs a copy and a father, I'm going to tell you to check the candy just in case because unfortunately that kind of stuff still happens where people try to lay stuff because they're just, you know, imbecile idiots that really, you know.
MichaelYeah, I can go on.
DianeNot good people.
MichaelNo.
MichaelBut if you have a, you know, you're having a good party and stuff like that, just be careful, drive safe and watch for kids on the roadway and everybody have fun.
MichaelHappy Halloween.
DianeHappy Halloween.
