Welcome back to Katching Up With Katie. So today, it's a little bit different. We have a new guest.
0:05
So if you haven't followed on Snapchat and a few TikToks, she's made an appearance—
0:10
Lindsay’s a new team member! Lindsay's, uh, I think you've been here six weeks? Yes, about around six weeks.
0:16
So there's lots of questions y'all have for me to ask her, and then we're also just going to get to know you. So, welcome Lindsay.
0:26
Thank you! I'm so sorry that I'm still a little under the weather. I don't know what this plague is. It won't leave my body. It's disgusting.
0:32
So if I hack up a lung, just don't pay attention to me. Um, but let's, I guess, start off with: just tell us a little bit about you.
0:41
Like, I'm going to ask you how old you are, where you're from, what you went to school for—all those things. Just give us a little rundown.
0:48
Okay! Well, my name is Lindsay. I am 25. I'll be turning 26 next month. I'm from Savannah, Georgia—woo! Go Georgia!
0:59
I went to SCAD, Savannah College of Art and Design, for graphic design and a minor in advertising and branding.
1:07
So I really enjoy doing billboards, advertisements, magazine ads, stuff like that.
1:14
Mhm. Okay, just for reference—what day in August is your birthday? August 31st.
1:21
Okay, we have another August! We do, we have another August birthday. Mine’s a little quicker than yours. What is it? 11th?
1:27
The 9th. Oh, I was going to say nth—guess. My little girl’s is in August as well. When is hers?
1:33
What is hers? I forgot. The 20th? Why are we having—29th. Okay.
1:40
Oh, you told me that before! I did. We need to do a little group— Nate!
1:45
We need to do a group—I was going to say your baby's name— We need to do a group Lindsay-Nate
1:50
baby birthday party. That would be fun! Yay! With the little baby. One year, Nate had to skip his birthday. No, we actually did give him a birthday party
1:58
because two years ago on his birthday is when I bought VS Code Red and I was like, "I'm so sorry you have to film on your birthday."
2:04
I think Matt was out of town or something, and so we got him a cake and stuff before the auction. Yeah, that was special.
2:10
I actually don’t know if I’ve ever had more anxiety on my birthday than that birthday. What would've been funny though is just like, while Katie was like in tears—
Worst Best Birthday
2:20
[music] —you were like, "Okay, birthday time now."
2:26
Did I ever tell you I almost completely dropped the ball on that? I think so, but I was dying. Yeah.
2:32
We were filming and the auction just started and I'm like, "Oh, I have like, you know, 25–30% battery left," and so it's like getting heated and hot,
2:41
and my camera starts blinking red—like about to die. I'm like, of course it's going to die right when it happens.
2:47
I'm peak stress. It worked out though. Happy birthday. Happy birthday!
2:54
So we need to do a little group birthday. A little grill-out. Something of the sorts. Um, we might be in Oklahoma over Nate’s birthday.
3:02
Last year, your birthday present was—you got a cowboy hat. Are you going to bring the cowboy hat to this one and wear it?
3:09
I'm always down to bring it. The problem is always— I will be wearing mine this year because I'm showing, right?
3:15
It’s just like luggage space. Okay, well— To the airport, it’s an extra bag.
3:22
What if we drive there this year and take Big Teal and take the trailer? Say less. Say less. Big Teal.
3:30
Okay, so Lindsay—yes? What is your exper— This is like the first thing that people are like:
3:37
"Did you have any experience with horses before coming here?" Honestly, I had zero experience with horses. But that’s not to say I haven’t been around
3:45
them before. Growing up, my friend had a mini farm on her property— it had horses, goats, donkeys, whatever.
3:56
So I would like, watch her help with the horses and clean their stalls and stuff like that,
4:02
but I never partook myself. But I do love horses. They're very pretty, they're very majestic, and they’re huge.
4:09
Okay, that was another question. Since you’ve been here, who’s the favorite horse that you’ve— It’s only been six weeks, so yeah,
Favorite Horse?
4:15
you can change your answer, but like— I think my favorite horse… Well, I only got to know him a little bit before he left,
4:22
but Seven was my favorite. Okay, he’ll be back. Yes, soon. Other than that, does it have to be a mare or can it be a foal?
4:30
No, it could be anybody. I like Huckleberry. Huckleberry’s a lot of— They don’t even know who Huckleberry is.
4:36
Nate does. Who’s his mom? Sure. I know. Who’s his recip?
4:42
She’s not a recip. She’s not a recip. It’s Annie, isn’t it? Annie’s his mom. Oh, okay. Well,
4:47
I have my little book. I have my little book. One point! We are going to quiz her because she’s been trying really hard. And you’re doing great because
4:55
there’s so many animals. So you’re doing great for six weeks. But we do love humiliation.
5:01
So— That’s fair.
5:06
So going back to the fact that, you know, you went to school for design and that’s something that you have a passion for—
5:12
what are some jobs that you’ve had prior to this job? Did they involve, you know, graphic design? Did you get to use those talents?
5:21
And then in the future, how would you like to use those talents? Yeah. So basically, my whole working time from
5:30
like 15 to now has been in retail, unfortunately. Well, not unfortunately. I love retail.
5:35
But I'm just used to it. I'm over it. I was ready for something different.
5:44
But also, I did have a little bit of a—what's it called? Freelance work.
5:50
For one of my friend’s moms. She started a company that had like body lotions, hair oils, stuff like that.
6:00
So I helped her kind of start branding her company, making the logo, getting stickers for the products, and stuff like that.
6:08
As for other freelance work, I haven’t gotten a lot of hits yet.
6:13
But I also haven’t been putting myself out there to do graphic design work as much recently just because I enjoyed retail so much.
6:20
And then I found this job and now I love it. So I don’t really want to go back to graphics. And you have been, you know, doing a little bit of graphics and stuff
6:27
for like the VS Code Red page and the First Things First, and maybe some stuff for the shop page.
6:33
So we’re trying to incorporate some things you like into your daily job.
6:39
Is that something in the future that you would like to be your full-time thing? Like, do you want design to be your thing?
6:48
I used to want to be part of an agency where I’d be the brander for companies.
6:53
So a company would be like, “Hey, I need to brand my whole company from stationery to websites,” stuff like that. And that’s what I wanted to do—
7:02
help make the logo, pick the fonts, pick the colors, everything like that.
7:07
One day I wanted to have my own agency at some point, but I’m kind of realizing that I just— I don’t know, I want to go a separate
7:17
way from graphic design at the moment. Not saying I’ll never go back to it, but for right now, I really enjoy what I’m doing.
7:24
Well, that’s good to hear. Nice! Good to hear. You’re not coming after our job.
7:29
So that is one thing we need to— A lot of people were like, "This is Abigail’s replacement. She’s kicking her out.
7:38
This is who we’re bringing in. Abigail’s out of here. You’re in. Step up."
7:43
That is not the case. That is the case. This is your inning and you got one inning. This is going to see what the lineup’s
7:51
going to be in the future. Yeah. This is your at-bat. Okay, okay. Essentially, we’ve talked about it a little bit on here—
7:57
When Abigail came on, it was almost— it’s about to be two years since she started working here, which is crazy.
8:06
I hired her part-time at first. She was right out of college, and it was like, I just need someone helping me film some stuff,
8:15
helping me run some errands, helping organize things. I didn’t even really have an idea for that,
8:22
because I’d never hired someone that wasn’t like a physical employee of the barn,
8:29
or, you know, something like that. I’d never hired someone to help me.
8:34
So her title has always just been “personal assistant,” but her job roles have just kept changing— kept being added onto, you know, whatever.
8:46
And she did—not ask—for me to find someone.
8:59
She was not complaining. She wasn’t like, “I can’t do this.” It was just like, there were some things that she was really good at
9:07
that she wasn’t really able to do because she was still having to do a lot of other things. And so I was like, “Well, I think it might be time we find somebody
9:15
that is part of the team in this way.” That I just would have never imagined two years ago— that I needed two people helping.
9:23
So Lindsay, basically, you’re learning all the things Abigail does
9:29
so that when she’s not there, you are also helping. But there’s also other things that we’ve been adding on.
9:35
You’ve been working closely with Ahbra—who is my brand manager— and Dani, who manages a few things with YouTube and trying to utilize social media as a whole.
9:46
So yeah, there’s just lots of things that you’ve brought to the table, even in just these six weeks, which is really awesome.
9:53
What has been— this was a question I saw on Facebook— what has been the most shocking thing you’ve been a part of since you started?
10:02
Which has only been six weeks, but you’ve been a part of some things. Yeah, I think you guys know—if you saw it on Facebook—
10:09
it was that caslicks. That’s crazy. The caslicks is the most shocking? That was correct. I've never—
Crazy Story!
10:16
it never even occurred to me that someone would need to do that. See, I would've bet money you'd say walking out and finding Janis’s baby.
10:24
Oh! Okay. That was a little— that was a little frightening. I literally—no joke—thought I was going to lose my job.
10:32
Huh? Yeah. You didn't know that she did that? I'm sure I did, but I didn’t realize that— Okay. Walk us through the day of Janis’s baby.
10:39
Okay. I can even show you the video I took before I turned and found her. I have a video of the donkeys just walking.
10:46
I—you know, the gate— and the donkeys were over here, and so I was like, “Hey donkeys, what’s going on?”
10:52
And I put my phone up, whatever, and I turn—and Janis is just standing there. And I'm like, “Oh hey Janis.” She literally backs up and she
10:59
looks at me. She's like— I’m like, “No way. No way.” I was like, “I had one job, dude.”
11:08
So I literally go in— I’m shaking. I’m like, “Did this really just happen?”
11:14
It’s like a nice— It’s a nice day out. It’s not hot yet. It’s cloudy. And I'm like, “God, this just happened.” And so I was like, “Do I call
11:23
Rachel? Do I call Katie?” So I think I called Rachel first. I was like, “Hey girl, Janis had her baby.”
11:31
Rachel's like, “What?!” I’m like, “I gotta call Katie real quick.” She’s like, “Call Katie. Call Katie.”
11:37
So I call Katie and I FaceTime her and show her the baby. And she's like, “There’s no way she would have her while I'm on a trip.”
11:45
Well, and that was my fault for being greedy— because she had waited for me to get back from Canada. And then we kept checking her milk,
11:51
we kept doing all the things, and she just didn’t, you know… Like, from when she had her baby the year before,
11:57
she had had it at day like 350. And she was still just holding so steady with her milk. And I was like, “Okay, she’s only at day 340—or 339— I think I can go.”
12:05
And I was only going for two nights, and I was like, “Okay, two nights. Not a big deal. I’m only two hours away. I can come home.”
12:12
And then you called me and I was sitting there like, “I don’t even know how to respond right now.”
12:18
And I was trying to figure out, “Do I go home? What do I do?” Because it wasn’t just me there— we had planned this weekend for a long, long time.
12:27
And I didn’t really want to make everyone go home when there was really no reason to.
12:33
Like, no—the baby was in good hands. Y’all had already—like, the baby was fine. It was eating, it had pooped, they had gotten the placenta.
12:40
Janis was perfect. Rachel’s on the way. They put her inside, fed. There was nothing I was going to go there and do other than look at it.
12:48
Like, if I had gone home, I would’ve been like, “Oh, there’s Janis’s baby,” and played with it. And then I’d have been like, “Okay, the vet’s not coming until tomorrow, so… whatever.”
12:57
And so we stayed. And that’s just… yeah. What a wild ride.
13:03
Yeah, that was her first foaling experience. Because we’ve been talking foaling season to her this whole time, being like—
13:08
And that was another thing— During foaling season, you know, Nate and Matt—
13:14
at the very beginning, we’re all pumped, and so we stay together. But then very quickly, it’s like, “We’re going to swap off,”
13:20
and then, you know, “If it happens, we’ll drive over,” so that we all get sleep, we all get to stay home, whatever.
13:26
Abigail, unfortunately, was just in the trenches with me throughout the entire thing.
13:31
Yeah. And she needed someone to help relieve her— give her some time that she could go sleep and not have to be in the shop or whatever.
13:41
Which now—she’s living very close, so that helps as well. So are you excit— I was going to say,
13:48
are you excited or nervous for foaling season? Well, after this Janis debacle, I feel like I’m a little bit more prepared.
13:55
Because I got to like iodine the baby’s belly button. Yeah! I got to iodine the baby’s belly button.
14:01
That was fun. A little crazy trying to pick him up, but— I didn’t get the enema, unfortunately.
14:08
Well, I would have— Just because I wasn’t there. The enema you do have to be careful with. So I was glad Rachel did that.
14:16
But I couldn’t find the butt. Yeah. Oh wow. Okay. Just one hole. I know, but it was a little—
14:22
There’s just one hole back there. I’ll explain off-camera. Um, yeah. So I’m glad everything went well for that.
14:29
So you didn’t actually get to see the labor part of it, though. Which is funny— I watched Janis on the camera that morning
14:35
and had posted a picture of her literally 30 minutes before, and she was just hanging out in the dry lot.
14:40
I was like, “Oh, she’s still pregnant.” Like, I was watching her— But she went to the very farthest corner of the dry lot that she possibly could to foal.
14:51
So even the video I have of it is very grainy, very far away. You can’t hardly see it.
14:57
But yeah, I think it’s going to be very different with the big horses, with the lead-up and the actual labor part of it— and the foaling part of it.
15:07
Because he was four hours old when you found him. So he was already dry, standing, had eaten already.
15:13
Like these big babies— I do think they take a lot longer as well, just because I think there’s a lot more of them that they have to gain control of, you know?
15:23
And so you’re going to get— You’ve never been so frustrated with a little baby animal than you will be when you’re like—
15:29
Like, you just get to where you’re like, “Please just eat. Open your mouth. Put it on the teat.”
15:35
The first one’s going to go so amazing that she’s going to be like, “What are you talking about? This is easy.”
15:42
So I’m like, “They’re all that way.” I hope they’re all like that. Wait till it’s like 20 below zero, and then nobody wants to do anything.
15:50
Okay, zero. It was never 20 below zero. It was cold!
15:55
I remember— It was cold for Kirby. And thank goodness she was the easiest baby of the entire year.
16:01
That day, it was freaking freezing. I remember we were back at the shop in under two hours.
16:09
Wow. From foaling. Like, Kirby was the easiest of all of them. She popped her out, Kirby stood up within like 10 minutes,
16:17
and then was just like eating. I never had to help her. And then Kennedy passed her placenta. That was just unheard of.
16:22
The passing of the placenta— It’s like you get all done, and then the mare’s like, “No, I’m just going to hold on to it.” That’s when it gets frustrating.
16:29
And you’re just tired. It’s the middle of the night. So Janis doing it in the middle of the day was a solid. Yeah.
16:35
Because then everyone was willing to come help you. Yeah. I wish all of them did it in the day. It’s a lot harder to get people to get up in the middle of the night
16:42
and come out just to check on things. Does everybody stay here? So last year, pretty much everyone just stayed here,
16:51
because we’ve got bedrooms here— or just on the couch or whatever. We played chess a lot. Nice.
16:56
We did. And I’m sure we’ll go through it again when it’s cold. When it’s warm, you don’t have the need for it. But we did the VR. We got into VR on that again.
17:05
We got into VR. Ready to start that back up. Jonathan sent me a video last night of a guy— like his wife was in the hospital having the baby—
17:15
and it’s just him in the room with the pistol game that Jonathan does with the VR headset,
17:21
just doing the drills. And he’s just in the room. What’s funny is that we got the VR, and then we like started just playing chess in VR.
17:29
There’s no way. You have two, though? I guess that was before the chess boards. Yeah. No, we had the chess—
17:35
Oh, you had the chess board. They were sitting on the table in front of the real thing. The VR one feels cool.
17:40
It’s really cool. It’s like a really cool room. You can be in different places— like in a Chinese garden thing,
17:48
or with butterflies, or like the Matrix. I don’t know how to play chess yet, but— But those are pretty much your only options.
17:55
You don’t know how to play chess? I don’t. We’ll have plenty of time to learn. Okay. Yeah, lots of mundane just it's cold outside. D&D, Catan.
18:02
See, that’s going to be the big thing— if we could get a solid D&D thing going. They want to play Dungeons & Dragons so bad.
18:10
So bad. And now we have our third—our fourth asset. A willing participant.
18:16
I feel like Abigail, if you catch her in the right mood, she’ll say she’ll do Dungeons & Dragons, and then she’ll be a fuddy-duddy the rest of the time and won’t play.
18:23
Right. We don’t need that energy. We need Lindsay energy. We need a full campaign. Dude, I’m a gamer. Lindsay is the person we were waiting for.
18:30
Monopoly— I’ll kick somebody’s butt in Monopoly. Easy. Hey, we played Monopoly for like four hours one night in Texas.
18:37
Hours? Yeah, hours. Days, babe. Days. Yeah, it might take that long if you’re not that good.
18:44
No, we just— Who did it come down between? You and me. You seem like the kind of person who would finish Monopoly, though.
18:51
Like, you have played a game that you’ve finished—like somebody won it.
18:56
I played a game with—I can’t remember who it was— and it got—it was the horse Monopoly. And we played it during foaling season,
19:02
and I remember everyone just wouldn’t play with me anymore because I got so much money. And then they were like, “This isn’t even fun.”
19:09
That’s usually how Monopoly is played whenever I play it. So you just play until everybody gets tired of playing. Yeah, you make a Monopoly— They all started just giving me stuff
19:17
because they’re like, “I don’t care. I don’t want to play anymore.” Right. You create the despair in everyone else. Maybe that says more about me as a game player. I don’t know.
19:24
That’s just the levels of foaling season. Everybody vibes and hangs out. There’s cookouts, there’s food, everybody’s chilling.
19:30
And then we go to games because nobody wants to sit and hang out anymore because we’ve seen each other all day.
19:37
And then it goes to— “What’s up? What’s up?” Everybody goes into their own rooms. You get about three horses of excitement. After horse three, it’s kind of like—
19:47
I stay excited. I’ll be excited. Well, you’re excited for the horse, but it’s like you’re over the process of it. Like, “Wanna play tennis? Wanna play chess?”
19:56
“I’ve been watching this TV show. I’m just gonna go finish an episode.” Yeah. And then y’all did get me on Attack on Titan, and you watched two episodes with me
20:05
and then nobody wanted to watch it with me anymore. And I’m like, “Okay… You wanted me to be a part of this world…”
20:10
Still do. I still have to watch that. But it’s hard to watch with people who have already watched.
20:18
I haven’t watched it. I’ll watch it with you. Yes! You’ll watch it together. That would be great because you need to experience it without people behind you going—
20:26
And also, I had just watched it the second time with my wife, and I was in the middle of it— You were AoT’ed out.
20:32
No— But I was in the middle of another show I was excited to watch. I gotta be honest, dude. I’m—
20:38
Anyway, there was one— When you finished Attack on Titan during foaling season, he got so enwrapped into it that he put on headphones, had his laptop,
20:47
and he would sit out in the middle of all of us and watch it while we were watching something else or playing games. And then, when it was the last episode— Basically, we all just watched him
20:55
because he was just crying and so emotional, just out in his own world— but in the middle of everybody.
21:04
Because everyone quit being like, “Come down here and participate.” And he was like, “Fine. I’ll be physically here but not participating.”
21:12
Rare opportunity you find those shows. You just gotta know what happens next. Gotta know what happens next. Okay, not just horses—
21:20
do you have a favorite animal on the farm yet? And that is from Hannah. Um… favorite animal on the farm…
21:28
Who do I go— Sprout! Sprout’s your favorite?
21:34
He’s so— He’s just so cute and cuddly. And every time he comes up to you, he’s always like getting on your legs and just wants attention.
21:42
And he’s turning into a little horny teenager, though. I mean, Sprout is the fan favorite. Like, any of the—
21:51
But like I said earlier, I really liked Seven too when he was here. I was about to say—had Sprout been born?
21:59
Mhm. He had just been born whenever I came. It was like the day of. Yeah! I forgot it was the night—
22:05
It was the night before she had had him, right? Because I was like, “I’ve been up all night. I’m so tired.”
22:10
And I remember that now. Okay, okay. So you’ve been here the entirety of Sprout’s life.
22:16
Got it. Emmett’s pretty cute, too. They’re besties. Oh—Cindy just wants your first month review.
22:24
Okay! My first month review has been very, very positive, as far as I can tell.
22:30
I haven’t had any— There’s no issues with— Usually in the first month of a job you’re like,
22:36
“Oh, I don’t like this,” or “I don’t like that,” but I haven’t found anything that I don’t like. Feel like she’s brown-nosing. Feel like she’s brown-nosing a little bit.
22:44
Um, I will say—watching— Well, I don’t think I can say that… Say it.
22:51
Watching Dr. Matthew work on the animals has been a little different. I’m not used to like—
22:59
What is it that kind of— She watched him flush out a thing the other day. Like, there was a cut that needed to be flushed out of—
23:06
Yeah. I’ve had knee surgery myself, so when I see like things being dug into and cleaned out,
23:13
I’m just like, “That hurts. That just hurts me.” And then she watched a caslicks. Which—a caslicks is very necessary.
23:21
It has lots of benefits. And if you’re not used to breeding and farm stuff— It’s shocking.
23:28
So, caslicks— We did it to Regina because we noticed she was getting fecal matter in her vaginal area.
23:36
And to keep her clean from infections— especially for mares who are
23:41
trying to hold a pregnancy— those infections can cause miscarriages. So you do a caslicks, which is where you sew up the vulva partially.
23:49
Now, they— This is one thing— Because people forget there are two holes. You don’t pee out of your vagina.
23:56
People are like, “She can’t pee!” I’m like, “She can. She can. I promise. We didn’t sew up her urethra. There’s a difference.”
24:06
So a lot of breeding mares have it because it prevents infections and things like that.
24:12
And she’s just walking around like nothing happened. Well yeah, they get lidocaine first, so they’re fine.
24:19
And they get more pain medication than— Than freaking women do.
24:24
That’s fair. I asked Dr. Matthew about that one day. I was like, “Why do they get numbed and all this stuff,
24:31
and we give them anti-inflammatory afterward— everything—and women don’t?” And he’s like, “Well… they kick.”
24:37
I’m like, “So we gotta start kicking. I’ll kick! You want me to kick? We gotta start kicking.” Do you have any pets?
24:43
I have two cats of my own. They live in Georgia with my mom. Hi, Mom!
24:50
Bandit is one of them. Bandit too? I know—it’s a boy? She’s a girl. I called her Bandit ’cause she stole my heart.
24:59
Oh my gosh. Incredible. It’s cheesy every time I say it. And then my other cat—him a big boy.
25:08
His name is Cat—with two T’s. So it’s “Kattuh.” That’s how we— That’s how we call him.
25:15
Or we just say “Cat.” The doctor was like, “What do you want to name it?” And I’m like, “Cat.”
25:20
The doctor?? I mean—the vet! Did you go to a hospital for the birth and adopt this baby?
25:31
She birthed it! The vet was like, “What do you want to name it?” Whenever we brought it in to get its shots and get fixed and whatnot.
25:40
She’s just in a full gown, tears flowing, and they’re like, “What do you want to name it?” “Cat.”
25:46
Oh my gosh. Okay— Sharon wants to know: Did you already know Abigail? Was that your way in, or how did you find the job?
25:55
I did not know Abigail or honestly anybody, really. I didn’t know— I had heard of Katie before,
Did Lindsey Know Abigail Before?
26:01
but I didn’t know like… anything about her. I applied for a personal assistant job on Indeed
26:08
and got an email that said, “Hey, we want to interview you.” At first, it was just someone that worked for Southerntherly Digital—Davis.
26:17
I met with him and he was like, “I’ll talk to her, let you know how it goes.”
26:23
Then he emailed me back again and was like, “Katie really wants to meet you. When’s a good day?” So I was like, “Oh, heck yeah! Let’s go!”
26:31
But no, I didn’t know Abigail or anyone before I came here. So we’re sneaky when we’re trying to find people—
26:39
because I just feel like for a working relationship, it’s better if I don’t utilize social media to find people to work here.
26:47
I feel like while I probably could find some outstanding individuals, it would just become so overwhelming with the amount of applicants.
26:58
And you know, I just don’t— I don’t know—everyone’s… I feel like there could be some people with ill motives.
27:06
So in my head, it’s always worked better if we just try to go with someone that
27:11
wasn’t originally a follower or someone that liked my content.
27:16
Usually when we put out something, it’s from someone else and it has kind of a vague—
27:24
Yeah, it was literally just like, “Running errands,
27:30
going to the post office,” stuff like that. It wasn’t anything like, “Helping out with—” It wasn’t super detailed about it.
27:38
We did that, and then once you had your first interview, it was like, “Are you comfortable with animals?” You have to be comfortable with animals, unfortunately.
27:44
And so at that point I was like, “Who am I interviewing for?”
27:52
But yeah. Thoughts on animal experimentation? I'm the experiment. How tall are you?
27:58
Experiment. Okay, here’s the thing: We don’t blame you for not knowing the animals. Because there’s like 150 of them.
28:09
That’s true. And a lot of them do look alike. And from someone that doesn’t have background with horses and stuff like that— It’s just hard. It just is.
28:16
And you weren’t here for the births. Once you’re here for the births, you’ll know them like they’re your children.
28:21
But Abigail is always like, “How do y’all not know?” Because you’re just with them all day. Like, they come a couple times a week.
28:27
And so it’s just not the same. So I’m going to pick up some photos—just for fun— to see if you can name these horses.
28:40
Let me see here… Give me a hard one, ’cause I know some of them. You want a hard one?
28:46
Well, they all look the same. I’m gonna do one that I think you’re going to know. Okay.
Testing Lindsey
28:51
If I don’t, that’s going to be very disappointing. I’m going to screenshot these so they can put them up on the screen.
28:57
Cool, cool. Who is this? Um… is that a yearling?
29:07
No, that’s a mare. It looks smaller. She’s a mare.
29:12
Okay, she’s a mare. We don’t have a red yearling. Oh—red! Who’s red?
29:18
Um… hold on, I gotta go through the barn. Everybody— We do have a lot of red.
29:24
Everybody… I don’t want to say Ethel. It’s not Ethel.
29:30
It’s not Erlene. It’s not—oh great, here we go. Is it Erlene?
29:36
Is it? Let the mind games begin. Do y’all know who it is? I can’t even really see it from here.
29:44
Tap your screen. BRB. Tap your screen. Tap your screen. Tap your screen.
29:55
Do you know? Is she Erlene? Is it—
30:02
Final answer? It’s not—three, two, one— Yay! It’s Erlene.
30:09
Okay, that’s my favorite! It’s your favorite? I thought Happy was your favorite. Happy and Millie.
30:14
I could also be wrong. Now, if you were to ask— I got that. I don’t know.
30:20
We were going through some photos yesterday, and you were like—Huckleberry. Who was—uh—who is Sophie’s baby?
30:28
Dallas. Oh—Sophie doesn’t have a baby.
30:33
Trick question! Trick question! Oh, it’s Phoebe and Dallas. Sorry. My bad. My bad. Okay. This is just—this isn’t a fancy photo. This is just one off my phone.
30:41
Okay. So this might be a hard one. All right. Who is this?
30:50
Opal. Charlotte. Charlotte! Charlotte. I keep— They look so much alike. I’m folding them together.
Which Horse Is This?
30:57
I didn’t know about Opal, though. He’s like, “I don’t even know who Opal is.” You’re probably on the same level, to be honest. Um yeah, Matt stays in his lane.
31:14
Oh my goodness. Okay, this one’s a little different,
31:20
but we’re going to go with it. Oh wow. Who’s this?
31:26
That’s Kennedy. That’s Kennedy! Hold on. Is there—there’s not another one?
31:32
Is that— No, that’s Kennedy. Is that the homie? Yeah, that’s—that’s the home dog.
31:38
Wait—is there—zoom in and say— I’m just—I’m going to do a little special zoom.
31:44
Oh okay. I’m going to do a little special zoom. Is that Code Red? It is! Okay. I was like—that’s Kennedy, for sure.
31:52
Well, he is Kennedy’s dad, so they do look alike. I thought that—well, you— We just did like a whole lot of organization
31:59
between VS Code Red and First Things First in their picture files.
32:06
Okay, I’m going to do some foals Yay! We’ll see. Okay, let me screenshot.
32:12
I’m saying yay, but I’m not going to get it. You might! Who is this?
32:18
Noelle. Noelle? Is it?
32:24
No—boys. Who’s this? No clue.
32:31
They take so many photos and videos of these animals and label them— That is the problem, though.
32:37
That’s the pro— I don’t label them, that’s for sure. That’s actually a problem we run into.
32:42
We try to label them afterward. Dropbox makes that difficult. Hold on, I gotta— It’s not Huckleberry.
32:49
It’s not Dallas. It’s not Knox. Look at— Who is it? It’s not Knox. It’s not Kennedy.
32:54
Ted. Kirby? Oh—Ted. No, I’m just going to stick with my first answer.
33:01
It’s Millie. Millie! Okay. I shouldn’t have stuck with that.
33:08
That’s the one I didn’t think of. That’s the one I didn’t think of. All right, one more, and then we’ll let you be.
33:18
Then we’ll stone you for getting all the ones wrong. I know. Literally. All right—throwing in a little zinger…
33:26
Who’s this? [music]
33:31
Gracie? It’s Gracie! No, that’s a—that’s a—
33:37
I only know—okay. Who is she? What’s the other one?
33:43
What’s the other one? Think small. The other one.
33:49
All I can think of is Gracie. Small. I think— Oh! Oh, small. Karen.
33:54
It’s Karen. It’s Karen! That’s right. All right. Well, you’re doing great.
Wrapping Up
34:00
We will retest here soon. Truly fired. We will retest here soon because, I mean, six weeks—pretty good.
34:07
That’s pretty good. You’re learning them all. Calving season is coming up, and so I think you’re going to be thrown for a loop with all the cows and stuff.
34:15
But, you know, it’ll take a while. So— Hope y’all enjoyed getting to know Lindsay!
34:21
We’ll have to have her back, so let us know some questions that you would like to know about her. If we have a little episode two—
34:29
maybe you and Rachel both come on and we talk as well. So let us know what you want to see.
34:34
Go to the website, because we’ve got all kinds of new merch out right now— katievanslyke.net.
34:40
Nate’s over there doing that dance— the little boat boy dance. We need to do our own little version of that one day.
34:47
Maybe—maybe Nate on Sophie. Nate on a horse doing it? Crazy.
34:52
On the back of a tractor. Anything would be crazy. That’d be awesome.
34:57
This—on the golf cart or something. Such a vibe. Yeah. Hope y’all enjoyed. See you in the next one.
35:05
Bye.
All
