[00:00:00] The Missional Life - Dan: All right. Welcome back to Mission Live Podcast. Today, we have Chad and James Hampton on the show. Chad and James are twin brothers who co founded Hunting the Truth Ministries and co host the award winning reality TV show Twin Factor. These fun loving outdoorsmen have taken a divine vision and turned it into a global ministry, serving vulnerable communities and spreading the gospel through hunting and adventure.

[00:00:20] The Missional Life - Dan: Chad and James. Welcome to the show.

[00:00:21] James: Welcome. Thank you for having us. It's a blessing. Yes.

[00:00:26] The Missional Life - Dan: James, let's start with you. That's the story that kind of changed everything. You've shared how God spoke to you in a tree stand back in 2005. And you just tell us what that experience was like and how it led to the creation of hunting the truth ministries.

[00:00:39] The Missional Life - Dan: Sure.

[00:00:39] James: Yes. So our father took us out hunting when we were seven years old. And that was back in the early 80s when we were still hunting on a wooden tree stands and we weren't wearing safety harnesses. It was a long time ago, but he took us out. He took us both up in the tree stand with him. And on that night God put a passion and a love for hunting in both of our hearts.

[00:01:00] James: And we didn't know at the time, but God was going to use that later on in our life big time. And so all throughout school and high school. All we wanted to do was hunt. That's it. When we weren't playing sports or if we weren't, you know, going to church, doing those other things, all we wanted to do was spend time out in creation and, and hunt God's animals.

[00:01:19] James: And he was preparing us during that time. And I can remember before we went to college, we attended Rochester Christian university in Rochester, Michigan in college. And the summer before we left, I can remember sitting down with God and saying, okay, God, This is my plan. Would you bless my plan? I know that sounds horrible, but I just, I felt like I said, Lord, you know, I feel like this is the plan.

[00:01:42] James: You know, would you help me? Would you, would you bless this plan? And the plan was to go to college on a baseball scholarship and get a You know, a teaching degree and, you know, meet a beautiful woman and get married and graduate and be a teacher and a coach and live happily ever after get married and have children.

[00:01:59] James: That was, that, that was the plan. And so when I got into college after my first year. Chad and I, we played baseball and my coach called us in and her called me in and he said, well, I hate to tell you this, but you're not going to be able to pay a baseball next year because your grades are high enough.

[00:02:16] James: And I can remember going back into my, into my dorm room and saying, man, Lord wasn't supposed to happen like this, even though it was my fault. I was just like, man, Lord, it's not turning out the way I thought it would. And then shortly after that, I met my wife who is now my wife and we were married a year later and then shortly after we were married she was diagnosed with cancer and she had a tumor.

[00:02:38] James: She had two different types of cancer cells in this tumor. And I can remember. Going back to our apartment after that happened as well. And I was just, just devastated, of course. And I can remember just saying, Lord, what's going on? You know, this, this wasn't the plan. This wasn't the plan that I was, that I was going after.

[00:02:55] James: And, and then so it was just a couple of years later, I was in the tree stand, as you mentioned, and I can, I can remember sitting in the tree stand that night and I just, I said, all right, God, you got me. You know, I'm done hunting for my plan. Things aren't turning out the way I thought they would. What do you have for my life?

[00:03:09] James: What is your plan? And I sat there the whole night. I carry a camel Bible in my backpack when I deer hunt. So I opened the Bible that night and I didn't even care about deer hunting. I just wanted to be out in creation. And I was praying to God, reading the Bible. And as I sat there that night, I felt God share with me in my spirit.

[00:03:28] James: He said, I want you to hunt for me. Like you hunt for these deer. And I want you to teach my people to do the same for the rest of your life. And I knew exactly what God was talking about when he said that, because I knew how much of a diehard hunter I am in that, in that shed is I knew all the hours we spend deer hunting in the tree stands, shooting our bows, just everything about hunting.

[00:03:51] James: I knew that we put our, everything into it. And God was saying, I want you to do the same thing. But for me, I want you to spend hours with me. I want you to spend hours with your weapon, which is that we call it the Bible, our weapon, and he just said, I want you to hunt, seek me, search for me like you do for these deer.

[00:04:11] James: And I knew exactly what he's talking about. So I called Chad that night when I got home and I said, Chad, I think. God wants us to start a hunting ministry. It's called hunting the truth ministries. I was reading that night in the Bible too. And I, I come across I was reading John chapter 14 and that's where Jesus is talking to his disciples and he's telling them, I'm gonna, I'm getting ready to leave you, but where I'm going, you know, where, where, you know, the way.

[00:04:35] James: And one of his disciples says, no, Lord, we don't know the way. What is the way? And Jesus told him, he said, I am the way. The truth in a life, no man come to the father except through me. And so when I read that verse, I thought, huh, I'm hunting the truth. God wants us to hunt for his son, Jesus. So I, when I went home and I called Chad, I said, Chad, God wants us to start a hunting ministry, I think it's called hunting the truth ministries.

[00:04:58] James: And he wants us to use hunting. And the outdoors as a vehicle to share the gospel. And so on that night, hunting the truth ministries was birthed. That's our mission for hunting. The truth ministries is we use hunting in the outdoors as a vehicle to share the gospel. We have a speaking ministry. We travel all over the country.

[00:05:15] James: As you mentioned, and we speak at all kinds of outdoors events, wild game dinners, prayer breakfast. We speak at schools, we speak. At all kinds of different outdoor events. We also have a media part of our ministry. We have a production company. It's called twins media twins. Media produces our TV show twin factor that airs on dish and direct TV on Saturdays, but we also produce outdoor hunting content and we posted on our social media, on YouTube, on the internet, and we share the gospel that way as well, and we also have a hunting ministry.

[00:05:48] James: We take out youth who do not have fathers. and out hunting also youth who are disadvantaged or who have chronic illnesses. We take them out hunting. We get to guide them, mentor them. We get to share Jesus with them. We also take out physically challenged men, women, and children out in the woods and take them out hunting.

[00:06:05] James: And we get to mentor them and share Jesus with them as well. So that's a little synopsis of hunting the truth ministries and how it was birthed.

[00:06:13] The Missional Life - Amanda: Wow. I just, Really appreciate you sharing all of that. And I really love how God just met you where you were in the tree stand and, how you just carried your Bible up there.

[00:06:25] The Missional Life - Amanda: And, , as I was , just looking at articles and things reading about you guys before this interview, I just saw that how you heard God in the tree stand. And I was telling Dan, like, wow, I think every husband who loves to hunt will appreciate that because now they can tell their wives, Hey, I got to hear from God.

[00:06:45] The Missional Life - Amanda: I gotta go to my tree stand

[00:06:46] Chad: now. Yes, yes. It's one of the best places to hear from God. Yes, it sure is.

[00:06:52] The Missional Life - Dan: \ And I just was thinking how you were in the tree stand. You had your, back against the wall, almost probably literally, but, , figuratively as well. And certainly, , emotionally, spiritually, relationally, maritally, I'm sure financially, all of that was probably up against the wall.

[00:07:06] The Missional Life - Dan: And I just am thinking about the scripture, , Jeremiah 33, it says, call to me and I will answer you, , and I'll show you the unsearchable thing that you don't know. And I was just thinking how you called to God and he did answer you. And he took something that was going somewhere, but not where now you're going, right?

[00:07:25] The Missional Life - Dan: He took that baseball and said, Hey man, I got something better for you. I got something bigger and better and broader and national and international scope. And it took you releasing that. And, I just love how. When we go through those things, with the right heart and we call out to God, he's willing to come to us and go through it and speak life into us and give us vision.

[00:07:43] The Missional Life - Dan: And I love how he gave you vision in the midst of us a season where you didn't have fish and you were saying, God, I don't know. And then all of a sudden, boom, it happened and you knew exactly what it was. And I love how you said you came home that night and both of you agreed.

[00:07:56] The Missional Life - Dan: And that, that was the night that it happened. That was the night you guys said, Hey, we're moving forward on this. And so I know that you often , talk about hunting for God as the ultimate pursuit. And we're just going to ask you Chad, What does that mean to you, and how can others adopt that mindset in their own life?

[00:08:11] James: Hunting for God, that's actually, well, our book, Secrets of the Hunt, also came out of the experience James just talked about. The eight principles of the book that we wrote called Secrets of the Hunt came from that experience. The Secrets of the Hunt, I'll explain a little bit about the Secrets of the Hunt book, too, because it ties into this.

[00:08:26] James: The Secrets of the Hunt book, we teach people how to hunt for God, his plan for their life. It's a fictional story about a youth that went hunting for the big buck on his, on his property and how he became successful in harvesting that buck. And so we take the eight secrets that make him successful in the woods.

[00:08:42] James: And we also use it in the spiritual application of, of eight secrets on how to hunt God and his plan for your life. And, and one of the, one of the chapters that really go along well with what we're talking about right now, it's called Battling the Elements. So the battle of the elements chapter, you know, if you're, you're a hunter, so you understand there's elements that you battle when you go out and hunt here in Michigan, there's wind, there's rain, there's snow, there's you know, all kinds of elements that you have to, to battle when you go out there to continue to hunt.

[00:09:12] James: And there's a funny story that James and I talk about this. Him and I went hunting on our property here in Michigan and it was a really windy day. We had to really harness in that day. And I looked over James was hunting about 150 yards from me. And I looked over to his stand and his tree was really rocking.

[00:09:27] James: The wind was really, really strong. And about five minutes later, I seen him get out of his tree stand and walk up to the truck because it got so windy. And so I texted him and I, I texted him. Asked him if he was okay. And then five minutes later I looked over and I seen a big eight point buck walking right underneath his stand, and he jumped out of it.

[00:09:46] Chad: James had

[00:09:46] James: just got out of his stand and five minutes later that buck came by. And I, of course, being the good twin brother that I am, had, had to let him know that there was a big buck that just walked underneath the stand. But we tell everybody that's a, that's a principle in our book, in in Your Hunt.

[00:10:01] James: For animals, there's, there's elements that you've got to battle and that, you know, that wind grabbed James's emotion and made him fearful and scared and he got, and he got out of his stand. It's the same way in our hunt for God and his plan for our life. We battle elements called trials and those trials grab our emotions, you know, all different type of trials that James chapter 1 verse 2 talks about, you know, be have joy when you go through all these various trials because it's building something in you and it's building your faith and perseverance and endurance.

[00:10:30] James: And so we tell people when we go out and speak, we, we teach this a lot in your hunt for God, you're going to battle elements. Don't give up. Just like James getting out of his den and missing his harvest by five minutes. If you don't give up, you will reap a harvest. That's what the, that's what God's word says.

[00:10:49] James: If you don't give up. And so you know, we really, we found that out over the years and every Christian really finds that out probably pretty quickly. It when we become a new christian accept jesus into our heart and begin our relationship or what we call your hunt for him You find out real quickly that life isn't always easy and you have to battle elements to to harvest a relationship a closer relationship with god and his plan for you And so that's that's one of the principles There's seven other principles that we talk about in our hunt for god in this plan for our life But that's one of them.

[00:11:23] James: But yeah, that's that's our main goal is to It's to just to teach people how to hunt God and seek him with all of our heart like we do hunting animals. Yeah. Yeah. And just to add to that I didn't mention this earlier, but another verse that I read in the tree stand that night, it was Psalms 14 too.

[00:11:43] James: And that verse says that God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand or any who seek God. And with us being hunters, we know that the word seek and the word hunt had the same definition is to pursue. With force or to search for. And so we take that word hunt and put it in that verse for the word seek.

[00:12:02] James: And it says that God looks down from heaven on the sons of men, which is all of us to see if there are any who understand or any who hunt for God. And so I realized that night very quickly, the Bible says that God's looking down and he's looking for hunters. We had mentioned earlier off camera that we're all hunters.

[00:12:18] James: The Bible says that, that God says in his word, that he's looking for hunters, not just hunters after his creation, but more importantly. More importantly, he's looking for hunters after him, people who want to seek him with all their heart, who want to pursue him with force, who want to search for him above anything else in our life.

[00:12:36] James: And so that's really where our book came from is God's looking for hunters. And that book is eight secrets on how to be successful in our hunt for him.

[00:12:46] The Missional Life - Amanda: Wow. You know, it makes me think of that verse, seek ye first the kingdom of God. And all these things shall be added to, , it's like you said, seek and hunt, you know, hunt first the kingdom of God, , hunt for Jesus.

[00:12:58] The Missional Life - Amanda: That's such a wonderful message. And, you know, I just really love how you guys, shared how your love of hunting began at age seven with your dad taking you out. And then after that, it was something that you wanted to do any chance you had, , to do that. So can you share a little more with how you guys reach out to youth?

[00:13:17] The Missional Life - Amanda: That you mentioned earlier, what does that look like? Any stories you want to share on that? That just sounds like a wonderful ministry.

[00:13:25] James: Yeah, a couple of stories that will give you a kind of a glimpse of what we do. Back in our our first season of Twin Factor, there was a commanding sergeant major at Fort Benning, which is now Fort Moore in Georgia, that saw one of our episodes, and he asked us to come to Fort Benning and create the first Gold Star Hunt.

[00:13:42] James: For the military, for the youth that lost their fathers on active duty. And so we got to go to Fort Benning. They have a management program for deer and animals right on Fort Benning. So they, they mark off some, some of the space on Fort Benning just for the people in wheelchairs and the youth. So we go down, we went down there for six years until COVID hit.

[00:14:02] James: And we did a hunt every year, filmed it for our show. We got, we guide them. We still have relationships with a lot of the kids and the families that we had at the Gold Star Hunt. And so that's part of what we get to do is hunt the truth ministries is to mentor them and take them out and guide them.

[00:14:19] James: Another really, really great story that really gives a good glimpse of what we do. There was a man that we took out hunting and hunt the truth ministries early on in our ministry. It was a man who was, he was perfectly fine. And healthy until he got in his mid forties and he got a blood disease that caused both of his arms and legs to be amputated.

[00:14:39] James: And so we took him out on a hunt and they make these these contraptions, we call them for people specifically with no limbs and you take them out in a wheelchair and there's a V table that you sit in front of them and the gun goes in this V table and the, the butt of the gun. goes against their chest and they can aim it when they go left and right, up and down.

[00:15:00] James: And then there's a tube that goes from the trigger up to their mouth. And when they can blow into that tube and they can pull the trigger and shoot the gun all by themselves. And we took this man out and we, we took him out hunting and he shot a buck all by himself by aiming that and blowing into that tube.

[00:15:16] James: And this is really the, the. Main reason why we do this is because, you know, a lot of these men and women that are in wheelchairs and are physically challenged, disabled, they feel like there's no hope, like God doesn't have a purpose for him anymore because of this. And when he shot that book, you could see the whole, just.

[00:15:35] James: You could see hope and just everything come over his face and his demeanor. And he, he knew that, that God could still use him and God still had a plan for him. And that's what it's all about for us. That's what we want to do is bring hope to, to that, to that community and, and share God's love with them and let them know that God still has a purpose for them.

[00:15:53] James: Even though that this has happened to them, that's what we're trying to do to help them. God they're they're playing god's plan for their life And so that's just a couple of those stories that give you a glimpse of what? Practically what we get to do in Hunting the Truth ministries.

[00:16:08] The Missional Life - Dan: Wow, so good with Just how that gave him such such hope right and that's so important, especially nowadays but i'm thinking about how like hope hope deferred makes a heart sick, but a dream fulfilled

[00:16:21] The Missional Life - Amanda: it's a

[00:16:21] The Missional Life - Dan: tree of life and how something You in a sense, had to die for him to have life. . And how Jesus had to die for us to have that life. And so it's so emblematic of Christianity right there. And I love how you guys are able to bring hope to people who don't feel like they have hope, but not only that, but I think it's so amazing that you can go and do those types of activities and people can begin to see themselves.

[00:16:45] The Missional Life - Dan: differently after that, because how we see ourselves affects everything in our life. Now all of a sudden he's like, I can get a buck now, man, I can go get that person

[00:16:54] The Missional Life - Amanda: I'm sorry, being in the community as well, you know, with other people, like you mentioned, just gathering them together because it's so easy as a believer when you go through the hard situations to get isolated and to get stuck in that spot.

[00:17:07] The Missional Life - Amanda: So bringing that community together and, people discovering their purpose together and that God does have a good plan that's even more powerful to see that in each other as well.

[00:17:20] Chad: Yes, yes.

[00:17:21] James: So, so awesome

[00:17:25] The Missional Life - Dan: in your ministry you get to speak life and you get to share encouraging stories but I know humor is also a big part of your ministry as well.

[00:17:34] The Missional Life - Dan: And so can you share, how do like pranks and laughter help you connect and share the gospel as well?

[00:17:39] The Missional Life - Amanda: I think it's surely as twin brothers. You had to really work hard on that, right?

[00:17:43] The Missional Life - Dan: Well,

[00:17:43] James: so, well, so somebody told us at the very beginning when we first started our TV show, they said, don't, people don't want to see fake on TV, they want to see real.

[00:17:51] James: And we said, well, you might not want that because, you And James and I's relationship, it's going to be really funny, but we'll show you real, but yeah, laughter is good. Like a medicine. And we, we just try to be real. One of the things, you know, there's a very small percentage of people out there that get to experience what it's like to be twins and it's, it's a very unique relationship, but it can also be very comical, especially with our personalities.

[00:18:18] James: You know, we we're really funny and goofy and but, but that, that does kind of lead into this too. We. A lot of people don't know this, but the reason why we called our show twin factor, obviously it's because we're twins, but it really came from a biblical it came from the Bible in Genesis one 26 and, and the Bible, it says, God said, let us make mankind in our own image and likeness.

[00:18:41] James: And let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the sky and over all the wild animals It says that we've been made in god's image and we know the bible says that jesus is the exact representation of the father So we've been made in the image of jesus And

[00:18:55] Chad: as

[00:18:55] James: twins and it says let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the sky It says let them give them a purpose for being here on earth And so we named it twin factor because the word factor means to have the impact on the outcome of something You So we, we tell people when we speak to you, this is another thing they don't realize that no, no, a lot of people don't realize this.

[00:19:16] James: Everybody's a twin. We're all made in God's image and likeness and, and we've all been made with a purpose on this earth to be the factor or have a positive impact on the outcome of someone else's life for Jesus. We all have the twin factor, not just James and I. And being twins and have the name twin factor gives us a great open door for people to share with them.

[00:19:37] James: God's got a purpose for your life. You've been made in his image and he's got a purpose for you. And it's a very important plan in what he's trying to do on this earth. And so, you know, your, your question was about the, about the humor and the humor, the comedy of our show. We try to use that. We kind of use that as an open door to be the factor.

[00:19:58] James: And, and share that message with people. Comedy really gets people open. We start all of our speaking engagements with, with jokes and stories to kind of, you know, get people settled in and, and then they seem to open up to you more when there's comedy. So yeah, that, that it really is a tool that we use, not, we don't try to use it.

[00:20:16] James: We, we are just goofy and funny, but we use it as a tool to try to share with people that everybody has the twin factor. Yes.

[00:20:25] The Missional Life - Dan: And. In doing the research, we found you love playing pranks, right? So tell us about some of these pranks you guys like doing.

[00:20:32] James: Well, yeah, so when we were, when we were in seniors in high school, we thought, you know, we haven't switched classes yet.

[00:20:39] James: And So I, this is actually a prank and something we tried to do. We switched classes. Our pastor's wife was actually one of our teachers. And we thought, Hey, if we could pull one over on her, then we could pull one over on anybody. So we switched classes, but, but James did not tell me that he actually had a test in a class that day.

[00:20:56] James: Oh, dirty. When we switched classes, James, James failed his test because it wasn't James in there. And I went up to him afterwards, I said, guess what, James, you just bombed that test. And it was a really, really funny moment. But James and I are constantly trying to figure out ways to. To play pranks on each other.

[00:21:15] James: And the one good thing about, about we have a lifestyle reality show. That's what it's called. The twin factors of lifestyle reality. So we always have the cameras running. We tell the people that, that film for us always had the cameras running. Cause you never know when that off the wall prank is going to happen, where you can get that on, on film and, and have a funny moment.

[00:21:34] James: So, yeah, James are, we're always looking for ways to prank each other.

[00:21:39] The Missional Life - Dan: What about competition? Is there ever any competition between the two of you?

[00:21:44] James: Yeah, well there is there there's there's always competition. I think earlier on in our lives It was probably a little bit, you know, it was probably a little bit more Competition.

[00:21:54] James: But as we get older, we still have competitions with shooting our bows. And James and I just recently had a, we're always having a competition on who can, who can keep our weight, the lowest and lose the most weight, which I always pretty much lose James. So, yeah, we're, we, there is always competition, but it.

[00:22:13] James: But as far as being twins, the competition really helped us growing up though. Yeah, competing really pushed us to be better in everything that we were doing and the competition was actually a blessing. Wow. Yes. That's good.

[00:22:26] The Missional Life - Dan: Wow. So what advice would you give someone who's feeling like they're on the hunt?

[00:22:31] The Missional Life - Dan: Or meaning in life right now, what would you say to the person that's just kind of feeling like man They've got their back against the wall as well kind of similar to what you felt like many years ago

[00:22:41] James: Yeah, so I think our advice would be exactly what our message is Seek God with all your heart.

[00:22:46] James: You know God told his people, the Israelites in the old Testament, you will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart, he was telling his people, you will hunt for me and find me when you hunt for me with all your heart. And that includes his purpose for your life. And that's really, that's what I did in the tree stand.

[00:23:03] James: I wasn't hunting for the right things. I was. I was hunting for, well, to be honest with you, when I went to college, I was hunting for a wife. That's what I was hunting for. And I wasn't, you know, I wasn't concentrating on schoolwork. I wasn't concentrating on God's plan. And, you know, I think in a way we all, we all do that, you know, as we're growing up and we're younger and as we're getting older, but that would be, I think our advice to someone who is feeling like that is seek God with all your heart.

[00:23:32] James: Seek him first. You know, you mentioned earlier the Bible says, seek ye first, the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all things will be added. We tend to make that more complicated than what it really is. At least I did. And really it's simple. It really is simple. Seek ye first, the kingdom of God.

[00:23:49] James: Seek God first and everything you do when we get up in the morning and we're not perfect. I'm not saying we're perfect. We're, we're always. You know, we're always trying to get closer to the Lord and everything we do. But when you get up in the morning, or if you work third shift, whenever you wake up, seek God first, get in his word, pray to him, seek him first.

[00:24:08] James: And when you seek him first and you, you're really listening to God. Says you and what he has for your life.

[00:24:15] The Missional Life - Dan: I was listening to a couple other interviews, you did, I love how you presented this. When you go hunting, you don't just take one thing and go hunt anything. You have to have specific equipment to hunt specific things.

[00:24:26] James: Oh, yeah. So I think you're referring to when we talk about our weapon being the Bible so there's, that's a chapter in our book and the secrets of the hunt called having your weapon and citing it in.

[00:24:38] James: So we practice with our bow over and over and over again to make it accurate so that we can harvest an animal when we get a chance. And so it's the same way in our hunt for God is playing for our life. The Bible is our weapon.

[00:24:53] James: Memorize it. We read it over and over again to become accurate with it so that we can know God's plan for our life. So that's what we teach people. Our weapon is the Bible. The more accurate you are with it, the more you'll know God and His plan for your life. That's what, that's all we teach when we talk about our Bible being the weapon.

[00:25:10] James: So

[00:25:13] The Missional Life - Dan: good. I love how you, At that moment when your ministry was born, you, you pulled out , that Bible and you started looking at it and it gave you that direction that you walked with the Lord. And, and he led you on that and as we're coming to a close, I wanted to ask you. As you work together, as you kind of do life together, what does it look like for your families as well?

[00:25:33] The Missional Life - Dan: How do your families both play a role in in your ministry and in the Twin Factor?

[00:25:39] James: Yeah. So a lot of people don't, don't know this, but Chad and I, up until about six months ago, we had full time jobs on the, other than our ministry and our TV show. We've, we've worked a full time job almost this whole time.

[00:25:52] James: We've we were in management in the food manufacturing industry for 11 or 12 years. And then about six months ago, we just went full time into into TV and the ministry. But we, thankfully we have very supportive wives and families. You know, of course they've, they've had to sacrifice, you know, just just like any other.

[00:26:15] James: You know, husbands and pastors and ministry. But yeah, it's so I have two children and my children are 22 and 19. So they're kind of out of school and kind of moved on now. Chad has five children and Chad's children are a little younger, so it's a little bit more difficult for Chad you know, to get out and hunt or to travel sometimes, but that's been the really good thing is if Chad and I, if we have to split up, we can split up.

[00:26:39] James: You know, if I have to go to another state and preach. I'll game dinner or a Sunday morning service. I can do that and check and still be at home running our ministry and our TV show, Chad does all the production for our TV show. So he can work anywhere that he can. So it it works out. You know, God's given us.

[00:26:56] James: Each different gifts and Chad's more of the law business side of things and administrative side of things. And I'm more ministry and hunting side of things. So it it works out pretty good. We can, we can make things work. God's worked that out pretty well for us with five children. I hunt a lot of sports events.

[00:27:17] The Missional Life - Dan: That's awesome. And your kids got to be excited about all this too. What do they think about dads on the TV and, seeing the impact of what God has done in and through your life through something that you're passionate about.

[00:27:28] James: Yeah. Yeah. So for me personally, with my two kids, my son and my daughter, they, They pretty much grew up with us on TV for the last 10 years. So I actually got to take my son out and film his first deer harvest and turkey harvest and it was on TV. So he's really got to experience, you know, both sides of things.

[00:27:49] James: My daughter, she, I took her out hunting with me, but she's more of an animal lover. She's not an anti hunter, but she loves animals. So She loves going out with me. She doesn't like to, you know, shoot animals, but she'll go out and enjoy the time in the ground blind with me and different things. So yeah, our, my family, they've, they've really enjoyed it because they've got to experience really some things that a lot of children don't get to experience when they're growing up.

[00:28:14] James: Yeah.

[00:28:14] The Missional Life - Dan: And

[00:28:17] James: your shoulder? Oh, they, they, they love it. They, we, we've got them all saying be the factor. That's our, that's our slogan. So they're, they're always saying be the factor. They get on our Tik Tok lives and say hi to us and goof around with us while we're on our Tik Tok lives. And you know, they, they give some of their sweatshirts and t shirts are twin factor and hung the true stuff to their friends to wear and represent it.

[00:28:39] James: So they, but, but as far as the ministry goes, they, they love the ministry part too. It's You know, we're just trying to lead by example and, and we know one day that they'll, hopefully they'll follow the lead. And, and we know that God's got a, their own specific hunt for their life too, and you know, hopefully they pick up on the principles that we teach and live and then they'll, they'll live out their, their own hunt for their life.

[00:29:00] James: We're looking forward to that and watching it unfold actually.

[00:29:04] The Missional Life - Amanda: Wow. So when they start doing more pranks

[00:29:07] James: You guys will know they're learning really well, but truly, they're already doing that stuff, but

[00:29:15] The Missional Life - Amanda: truly that's just such a great example of, you know, having a healthy family.

[00:29:20] The Missional Life - Amanda: Amidst the busyness that comes with travel, with administration tasks, you know, with all the work behind the scenes that happens, and yet maintaining that healthy family at the foundation as a core, that's just so important. it's just , so good to hear like that they love it, you know, and that they are just that they get to be part of it.

[00:29:40] James: Yes, it, it was a work in progress for us early on, probably the first five years of our ministry, especially speaking, we were on the road a lot. Sometimes, you know, three weekends a month, sometimes even four. And there was a point where we had to sit down with our wives very early on in our ministry. And we had to.

[00:29:57] James: We kind of had to work out a deal that we would, you know, be home two weekends a month because it was, everything was just so busy. Like I said, with you know, the kids full time jobs, the ministry, the TV show. So it was a work in progress. It was, it was pretty tough at first, but and we still don't think I've totally got the hang of it, but we're always learning.

[00:30:15] James: Yep. But God's, God's constantly teaching us. I

[00:30:19] The Missional Life - Dan: think that's such a important factor . Ministry starts at home, right? If we can't get it right there, then we need to revisit some things. And so I love how you guys are, are hunting and your ministry is growing, but it's like , teach your children about God and they won't depart from that.

[00:30:35] The Missional Life - Dan: Right. Teach them how to live. And I love how you can kind of probably say, teach them how to hunt and they will continue hunting themselves. And so we just continue to speak over them, that as you are teaching them how to hunt. both physically and spiritually that they will learn how to physically and spiritually hunt as well.

[00:30:50] The Missional Life - Dan: More importantly, spiritually, because, , that's what's important is,, jokes aside, you know, the show and everything is wonderful. But the family, that's the original small group. That's how we got it Wanted ministry to begin it was at home and that generational Passing down of who god is and that going down through Generation to generation and so I love how you guys are getting that right at home And god is now equipping you guys to go to other homes as well and share that so I just want to encourage you with that.

[00:31:17] The Missional Life - Dan: Thank you for getting it right at home first and going broad after that. So how could our listeners get in contact with you? How can they follow you guys? How can they begin to follow your show as well?
