Speaker:

I think we all go through it and it's kind of like burnout

Speaker:

I personally work best under stress

Speaker:

Parker Charles Hodge

Speaker:

that's me bro

Speaker:

business is a reflection of yourself

Speaker:

If you're not doing good the business is not doing good

Speaker:

How are you doing

Speaker:

My employee you know lied and said we cutpn

Speaker:

all of the yards so I when charge everyone's card

Speaker:

15 people are calling me like why did you charge my card you didn't cut my grass

Speaker:

which took us all the way down from doing 20k

Speaker:

18k to$20,000 a month back down to like ten

Speaker:

Yeah cut you in half 10 or 12

Speaker:

That's a horrible bleed

Speaker:

It was awful

Speaker:

You know you've been with someone for five years

Speaker:

you know the majority of that was with you

Speaker:

maybe in a job doing this on the weekends

Speaker:

you star doing this full time

Speaker:

Is that taking a toll

Speaker:

or would you say it was for the best

Speaker:

in terms of your relationship

Speaker:

You know after our conversation

Speaker:

I Kind of thought more of it

Speaker:

and I was remembering our conversations about this

Speaker:

I now truly believe

Speaker:

that it takes two special people to do it

Speaker:

Well like you said with the one that burned you and lied

Speaker:

how could you build a culture where that doesn't happen again

Speaker:

I think a lot of it is just

Speaker:

Real quick if you're watching this on YouTube hit the like button drop a comment subscribe so you miss any future episodes

Speaker:

And if you're listening to this on a podcast platform leave a review

Speaker:

It'll help us out big time

Speaker:

And it'll let us know that you guys actually like what we're putting out

Speaker:

All right let's jump right in.

Speaker:

Parker Charles Hodge that's me bro

Speaker:

Dude this is Loki part two because we tried to this last week and it did not work out

Speaker:

No I wonder why things got messed up

Speaker:

All you got messed up

Speaker:

I wonder why we have a great location you can't sit here and act like it was perfect

Speaker:

It was not this is much better yeah you think this is much better but Parker I um we're gonna let's try to recap a little bit of what we talked because I think it was good and I think people should listen to it

Speaker:

So let's start where we met where we met

Speaker:

Yes okay so Ricardo has a different memory of this and I don't know why

Speaker:

So basically we met at Landscape Summit 20 23 23

Speaker:

Yes so I was sitting with Aiden our other host and we just happened to sit next to each other while we were doing the conference

Speaker:

And then I was like hey bro you wanna go eat together

Speaker:

Yeah sure it's good

Speaker:

So we went and ate and it was at conference

Speaker:

They had like meals for us and we're standing in line

Speaker:

We go to the line we all sit down

Speaker:

And next you know more and more people show up and they're like hey do you mind if we sit with y'all

Speaker:

We're like no go ahead

Speaker:

Well Carter happened to be one of those people and we got the chit chat and got everyone's phone numbers

Speaker:

And then we're like alright let's plan like a dinner after after we meet like after conference

Speaker:

And you thought

Speaker:

I thought that you just I mean I thought nothing was gonna happen

Speaker:

I think cause I usually like whatever whenever I'm like any of those coffins and like yeah let's go out like later and let's get some food and chat and whatever

Speaker:

Usually nothing happens because someone's wife or like because I'm so tired

Speaker:

I'm gonna go to sleep blah blah blah

Speaker:

So they got whatever maybe they'll text me they won't

Speaker:

We end up texting me and then we texted

Speaker:

Yep so we all went to TGI Fridays TGI Fridays and Ricardo decided we're all talking about our numbers and how we're going and Ricardo decided to bluff a little bit a little bit

Speaker:

I was just projecting haha just creating future what do they call

Speaker:

You're manifesting it you're manifesting future numbers and it ended up working out

Speaker:

So yeah you're about there yeah I'm I am there

Speaker:

Well you said 400

Speaker:

Yeah I'm about there a couple couple thousand couple thousand short but little little low little low but it's okay

Speaker:

So we're basically like main thing we're talking about the other pod that got messed up was just like stop being enemies with the other competitors

Speaker:

Yeah you know like be friends cause we all that's basically how this podcast and how everything came about was like we decide to be friends here

Speaker:

We're like alright you know let's learn off of each other because we have different insights

Speaker:

Yeah cause you don't know what you don't know exactly

Speaker:

And I think well I think one of the main reasons why we worked out so well you know us and Aiden is because we're like completely different markets right

Speaker:

Which is great

Speaker:

But you know you being six hours away from me him also being six hours away maybe in the middle point it kind of does work out cause we're all we're all still in the East Coast

Speaker:

We're all kind of like same grass

Speaker:

I've seen like market types right maybe a little different in terms of like demographics and same relatives of incomes same relatives

Speaker:

So there's a lot of there's a lot of variables that are you they're pretty constant

Speaker:

So whatever is that we talk about usually works out to like when we say don't be enemies we mainly say that as in from our perspective of like different markets

Speaker:

But if you are in the same market as somebody else you know I think it might be a little different because you are competing as that person

Speaker:

But at the end of the day if your work is big enough to house multiple people then you should be fine

Speaker:

Like the thing is it's really not it's not really a competition in my opinion because even where like I have four other competitors in my area that I communicate with on a regular basis

Speaker:

Um and a lot of times we send each other work

Speaker:

Like if he's too busy he sends me something

Speaker:

If I'm too busy I send him something stuff like that

Speaker:

Like we always are doing that and we usually call and have conversations and stuff all the time

Speaker:

But like it it there's enough grass out there for people to cut your real competitors the chuck in the the chuck in the truck

Speaker:

That's not even lowballing you you know like for example me me and the one of my other competitors was talking one day and I was like like what do you charge in per hour

Speaker:

You know I was like I'm not I'm not gonna cut throat you I'm not gonna go blow you

Speaker:

Like I wanna figure out what you're charging

Speaker:

So if they call me or you they get the same relative price you know because trucking a truck over here behind us is gonna come in for$20 lower than both of us anyways

Speaker:

Yeah you know like why me and you aren't the competitors

Speaker:

We're just trying to weed out the truck in the trucks that are gonna mow till August get hot and then bounce

Speaker:

Yeah so I I I think it's truly helpful for you and a local competitor to kind of bounce ideas off of and talk to each other

Speaker:

Um the granted you don't have to keep them so close to you

Speaker:

Like just have conversation with them you know um like a good saying keep your keep your friends close your enemies closer

Speaker:

Oh yeah definitely so yeah I think I think that too

Speaker:

And I think the thing that I disagree is that I sisterly don't think trucks and trucks are uh enemies or they're like any kind of competition

Speaker:

Because like they they take themselves out regardless

Speaker:

Right and like for the people that don't know what truck in the truck is it's just that she just like the bottle feeders right like the uh daytime job they have

Speaker:

Yeah it's like their side hustle

Speaker:

We can warriors however you wanna call it and this does not just apply to landscaping

Speaker:

This also applies like any other business type right like everybody starts somewhere and you essentially start out as a truck in a truck which is fine

Speaker:

I mean we all did it right but eventually grow out of it

Speaker:

You know if you stay in there then you know that's like your deal but it's not a real competition cause you know you can't stay at some point they give up at some point the quality goes down and get burned down at some point

Speaker:

The 20 dollar cuts look like a 20 dollar

Speaker:

Yeah so yeah it's they'll go fast but they'll grow so fast that's not good for them for their own for their own good

Speaker:

They do end up taking themselves out

Speaker:

I don't I'm not saying that they're like the biggest threat yeah but I also think that I I think that your your person that's kind of equal with you is also not your problem

Speaker:

Yeah you know like it could just be my area

Speaker:

I mean I would say try it in your guys's areas you know whoever's listening or even you like um I think you guys would find a good common ground and be able to discuss things you know and one of the things that I tell all of them is like I'm not gonna take your employees

Speaker:

And if someone tells me that you're cut that they're cutting your yard or that you are cutting their yard and they want me to give them an estimate I'm going to reach out to you and be like hey look they're not happy with the service this is why

Speaker:

Um if if you don't wanna service them you know that's fine but I'm gonna give you the opportunity to keep your client

Speaker:

You know I'm not gonna tell the client like oh I'm gonna reach out to them let them know how shitty the service are doing and then whatever like I just be like okay you know um I'll go back to the office do some estimating and then I'll give you a call back

Speaker:

I think what it is is just like having an understanding with them

Speaker:

And don't be don't be you know unrealistic

Speaker:

Like you're both cutting grass both doing the same exact thing

Speaker:

Yeah yeah like I've called him a problems and he's helped me just kind of like we do with each other yeah or ideas and like that is just the way that you over time you kind of just grow

Speaker:

Like because you never know maybe that truck in the truck eventually sometimes maybe he wants to get out and he either sells you the clients or he sells you equipment or he gets you out of a pinch or maybe he just wants to work

Speaker:

So he comes and works for you exactly

Speaker:

So the less enemies you have the better and you know it works out in the long term

Speaker:

I don't think there's a reason to have enemies

Speaker:

I don't think either

Speaker:

Just there's healthy competition definitely with like another I've had I've had one enemy and it was just funny more than anything

Speaker:

The Facebook warrior yes the Facebook warrior that made up made up things about how the local Facebook group was ran by one of my family members

Speaker:

And me and that guy who runs it don't even know each other never done work for him nothing

Speaker:

Yeah so anyways it was just a laugh

Speaker:

That was a funny that was a funny arc

Speaker:

It was very hilarious fucking hilarious but tell me how has your season been so far

Speaker:

It's December 14th so this year this is pretty much it you have like maybe like a week and that's it

Speaker:

She has been rough rough rough like every year haha um I don't know just like again and granted this is my second full time season um I've done this for two and a half years now um the half years where I met you at the end of it

Speaker:

Um yeah so one of the one of the big things like you always learn you know if you don't learn while you go you're kind of doing it for nothing

Speaker:

You know so like one of the big things that I Learned my first full time season when I was gonna do this full time was like I focus so heavy on mulch

Speaker:

So March we call mulch Madness

Speaker:

And the only thing I was doing was mulch mulch mulch mulch mulch

Speaker:

And then I didn't realize that hey mowing comes right after mulch

Speaker:

And I didn't do any advertising for mowing

Speaker:

So I went from doing like 20 to 23 thousand dollars a year or 20 twenty to twenty two thousand dollars a month on mulch to doing like six grand and mowing

Speaker:

And I was like woof that's bad woof

Speaker:

So I Learned that the first season Learned a few other things um for spring rush and then this season was uh hiring the right people yeah and not taking a vacation you know right in the middle of spring rush

Speaker:

Oh yeah

Speaker:

Course I got married and had some other stuff go on like the wedding was great

Speaker:

By the way the wedding was fantastic that was good it was great it was fun time and the night before the night after or the wedding night the wedding night that was great

Speaker:

When we all went to Airbnb and yeah got a little tipsy shout out to the Airbnb not gonna lie

Speaker:

It was the hot tub that was probably the best part it was it was only 30 seconds from my house dude

Speaker:

Yeah it was right there right there

Speaker:

So but now we had a blast

Speaker:

Um it was just crazy with like just I just I think I overloaded my plate this season cause I joined joined Augusta um and then had a wedding to plan and then had all that stuff

Speaker:

So technically I'm not even really running as Augusta yet

Speaker:

Like we're wearing the uniform but the business isn't set up under Augusta until January 1st

Speaker:

Yeah cause I had to make a decision of like struggling and putting everyone in the new CPCRM and getting all the cards on file and all that stuff right while I was already going through a dumpster fire or I just wait until I have time in the winter

Speaker:

So I just decided to buy that off when it came

Speaker:

That's kind of genuine

Speaker:

That's kind of like last week of December plan is getting rolled over

Speaker:

Yeah I mean so like the way that I did it was I just went straight for like just cut off the neck as soon as I hit training

Speaker:

And it worked out cause like 2,000 people don't give a shit

Speaker:

You know they really don't give a shit like just cut my fucking grass

Speaker:

You know what I'm saying like do the service that I'm paying you to do

Speaker:

And it worked out long term but I can understand you know everybody does things differently

Speaker:

And plus you do have a lot of shit to do with all your wedding and all that shit

Speaker:

So yeah it makes sense

Speaker:

Yeah I was overloaded

Speaker:

I didn't wanna add more stress you know

Speaker:

Hey real quick

Speaker:

If you're still watching or listening congratulations

Speaker:

You don't have the attention span of a goldfish and it also seems like you like what you're listening or watching

Speaker:

So why not subscribe leave a comment

Speaker:

Like or if you're in a podcast platform these are review

Speaker:

It helps us out more than you think

Speaker:

All right let's get back into it

Speaker:

Okay so understanding that the being of the season was kind of a mess with the whole focusing in one time services versus like the recurring service that you should have done which now you know you know you Learned your lesson

Speaker:

What would be kind of the changes that you'll make this season to make sure that you actually get to the goal that you wanna hit

Speaker:

So I kind of started doing that like last season

Speaker:

I Learned from the previous season

Speaker:

Hmm well I guess it was this season is why I implemented it

Speaker:

So I focused more on like yes we're gonna do mulch yes we're gonna do um great I said but the thing that we did differently is I took time to do marketing on both um door hangers

Speaker:

Like while we were doing a mulch job we would do nine arounds which is basically the nine houses around the house that we were servicing

Speaker:

We put door hangers out so wherever we stopped I put door hangers out also we would do door hangers

Speaker:

I would do door hangers in the evening stuff like that which it worked well this year

Speaker:

Cause I went from last season to in 6,000 a month in April to this year

Speaker:

We did$20,000 almost great

Speaker:

So it was like 18 to 20 so around there

Speaker:

Um and then the middle of may I went on a bachelor party and then my employee you know lied and said we cut all of the yards

Speaker:

So when I charge everyone's card and 15 people are calling me like why did you charge my cardio and cut my grass

Speaker:

And then beginning of the season is easy to find someone else

Speaker:

So they switch someone else's service

Speaker:

Right which took us all the way down from doing 2018 to$20,000 a month back down to like ten

Speaker:

Yeah cut you in half 10 or 12

Speaker:

That's a horrible bleed

Speaker:

It was awful

Speaker:

So how to get rid of that guy

Speaker:

Um I could have blamed him for everything but really what it was is I didn't set him up appropriately for when I was gone

Speaker:

Yeah so it was my fault but again he did lie

Speaker:

The last thing he had to do is just tell me like I didn't have time

Speaker:

I didn't get to those last 15

Speaker:

I'd be like okay then when I get back on Monday we'll just hammer him out sunrise the sundown just get him done you know but fortunately that wasn't the case

Speaker:

So I think this year's plan for spring rush is yes let's do mulch in March

Speaker:

Um but also I think what we're gonna do is every day I'm gonna require every employee including myself to do 50 50 door hangers um a day

Speaker:

And we're also gonna do yard signs stuff like that

Speaker:

So this year we're we're gonna I don't know if it's realistic or not but it's a it's a long goal

Speaker:

Um I wanna do some around like three to four hundred thousand somewhere

Speaker:

That right three four hundred what thousand thousand for

Speaker:

Yeah I don't like 26

Speaker:

That's completely realistic

Speaker:

And it's really you and two other guys maybe me and so like maybe two crews

Speaker:

Yeah I have I have everything for it

Speaker:

Yeah you know like the only thing I don't have is the employees and the clients

Speaker:

Hmm you know funds are gonna get them regardless

Speaker:

Yeah this is really about the employees training

Speaker:

Yeah tell me you've had employees here and there

Speaker:

What would you say is the biggest bottleneck when it comes to training really hardworking and trustful employees

Speaker:

Cause like anybody can cut grass anybody can do

Speaker:

What is what it is that you do

Speaker:

But like you said with the one that burned you and lied how could you build a culture where that doesn't happen

Speaker:

Again I think a lot of it is just telling them what the values are and making sure they understand the values

Speaker:

Um so like one of my number one things I tell every brand employee on day one first hour is like if you break something you tell me immediately

Speaker:

You don't wait till the end of the day

Speaker:

You don't wait until next week when the client calls me and I ask you about it like you tell me instantly and the reason that is cause I wanna get ahead of the problem

Speaker:

If you call the client you're like hey I'm sorry we broke your window

Speaker:

Um I'm already gonna I'm gonna come out later this afternoon get measurements go ahead and try to get one on order

Speaker:

Um it looks a lot better than coming home to a broken window

Speaker:

Like call me pissed off

Speaker:

Yeah definitely so shows initiative to the client and makes them trust you more

Speaker:

So one of that one of those things is just like telling them you know like also being a real person like I know that it might be too much work I know that this might happen but if it does happen just let me know and we'll figure out a plan

Speaker:

Like don't lie to me cause I'm gonna find out

Speaker:

Yeah I don't know what his thought was

Speaker:

Yeah you know so it's just part of that and then like training a hard working person

Speaker:

Um it's it's pretty pretty good

Speaker:

Um the only thing is you have to be on them every second because if they if they don't do something that you like or if they do something that you don't like you have to correct it immediately

Speaker:

Cause if you don't it becomes a bad habit and they do it

Speaker:

It's harder to reverse a bad habit than is to teach a good one

Speaker:

Yeah so like even with the way that they weedy the way that they edge the way they mow or anything like that you know I'm on them

Speaker:

Okay next time let's try to do this like instantly

Speaker:

So it's just kind of like that kind of stuff

Speaker:

Yeah that makes sense

Speaker:

So do you think because I kind of sounds like micromanaging

Speaker:

And I know for a fact micromanaging is not good

Speaker:

So do you think it's required at first to kind of set the level of expectation that you want or there's definitely a difference between micromanaging and training

Speaker:

Okay so once I feel comfortable with them and I know that they are doing what I want them to do I let them run

Speaker:

Yeah so I don't micromanage them

Speaker:

But day one like the first week two weeks I am micromanage them micromanaging them because I want them to learn the way that I want them to do things right

Speaker:

Yeah so it's like a faster feedback mechanism for them so they can correct it from the gym

Speaker:

Yeah versus me learning a month in that they're doing something I don't like and then having to be like don't do that

Speaker:

And now it's their natural habit to do the thing I don't like

Speaker:

One of the main things that I Learned this year especially this year was right after like the spring rush

Speaker:

Right so it was like June Julyish cause in June was still pretty busy but July when it's slowed a little bit down I got a little hotter I got the chance to like stop right stop stop look around slow down see how I'm feeling

Speaker:

And I was completely burned out and I realized that most of it was because I went past my personal capacity of everything that I was doing right

Speaker:

I I completely overloaded myself with everything

Speaker:

Now I know that I need to delegate much more which is you know things I were doing this year

Speaker:

Um but I also realized that if I'm not okay the business I gonna be okay right cause if I'm not willing to get up do estimates do sales if I'm not willing to beat the team how it's supposed to be and all that then this is not gonna do it like it's not gonna do well right

Speaker:

So knowing that the business is a reflection of yourself what we think are what are like your experience with that

Speaker:

As like the same example that I went through so you wake up and you don't wanna do anything

Speaker:

Yeah I mean I've done that

Speaker:

I think we all go through it

Speaker:

It's kind of like burnout

Speaker:

Um I work I personally work best under stress

Speaker:

Okay um I don't like when things slow down

Speaker:

I kind of get bored and lazy when things slow down

Speaker:

But if I have too much to do I'm a workaholic you know so I think part of that I'm part of that comes from just like getting lazy and like used to it

Speaker:

Like you're like oh we only got nine yards to cut tomorrow

Speaker:

Like I can sleep in a little bit

Speaker:

Yeah like stuff like that you know you kind of get you kind of get a little lazier but um it doesn't always work doesn't always help

Speaker:

Um um I think one of the things with my business to kind of like get to that 450,000 dollar goal or 4 like 3 to 400,000 dollar goal would be like you're saying to kind of be more trusting

Speaker:

So the guy that I have now that I went through a bunch of I think I went through like six guys this year

Speaker:

Yeah so this kid this kid I call him kid he's 18 but he he works his butt off

Speaker:

You know he shows up every day shout out Colton shout out Colton doesn't doesn't call out doesn't do nothing crazy

Speaker:

Um so part of that is like a good thing

Speaker:

Um next year I think we're gonna this winter before the spring really kicks off I'm gonna do some training sessions with them um and kind of get them trained up on the CRM and have them actually do some like some more stuff to help me out

Speaker:

So if we get to that point you know I'm gonna have him relatively helping manage the guys

Speaker:

Um and i'mma be more focused on sales stuff like that

Speaker:

So him managing the guys would look like um I'll have the route together the night before he'll go through the route with the guys have make sure they have everything and you'll send them off

Speaker:

And if they have a problem with something uh huh they'll probably call him

Speaker:

Yeah and if he'll be like the first filter and if they if he doesn't know then he'll call me

Speaker:

Okay so instead of like a crew lead yeah kind of like a crew lead

Speaker:

Um but again I'll still be in the field as well

Speaker:

So um I think I'll have a guy with him first part of the season probably three of us in a truck

Speaker:

Um then if we get a force if we grow to a force right then I'll have him with one of them and I'll have the other one

Speaker:

Yeah so once I get the third one trained up he'll ride with me or he'll ride with Colton

Speaker:

And then the fourth one I'll train up and then he'll probably rock and roll with me sounds like you gotta figure it out

Speaker:

We'll see we'll see it was a good nothing ever goes according to plan sadly unfortunately you know one of the thing that I wanted to touch on is business wise things can go well right things can go bad whatever you can fix that you can fix that pretty easily usually with money right

Speaker:

There's some things that money can't fix right like whether you're happy whether you're sad how you're doing personally how your relationships are going these like things that money can buy

Speaker:

So how are you doing personally so far with like happiness I guess I said as in like you know we can talk business all day right

Speaker:

But like I said before this is a reflection of yourself

Speaker:

If you're not doing good this is not doing good that's true

Speaker:

How are you doing

Speaker:

Are you doing good

Speaker:

I'm fine I'm chilling you chilling freshly married how is that

Speaker:

How's married life married life's the same bro and you've been living off of her seven years you know we've lived together for five so why take you so long

Speaker:

Oh my god here we go

Speaker:

Why are you taking so long

Speaker:

Five years long time

Speaker:

What happened

Speaker:

You got married at 18

Speaker:

What happened dog

Speaker:

Okay dog we don't even talk about that

Speaker:

Haha you kind of you kind of grow up

Speaker:

You know like I wanted to see how she would be as an adult versus as a fresh adult

Speaker:

Okay because the fresh fresh adults they make stupid mistakes and they learn from them and then they mature

Speaker:

So I wanted to kind of wait to see like how we would be through struggles right before I sealed the deal legally and married her

Speaker:

So we kind of went through all of our fights and all of our big problems that we seen

Speaker:

We were able to come through the other end together

Speaker:

So at that point I was like it's time to time to get married you know like get ready to have kids

Speaker:

So the deal dude how I went so you guys are planning to have kids

Speaker:

When do you think that's gonna happen or when are you planning for that to happen

Speaker:

Probably 2027 another year two years

Speaker:

Yeah are you gonna meet me uncle

Speaker:

Yeah I won't be a dad dude that'd be crazy it would be crazy

Speaker:

Yeah we're kind of waiting cause she graduates in may

Speaker:

Um okay we kind of want her to she mainly wants to be able to be in a job for a little while hmm and then um then have children

Speaker:

But she doesn't wanna just like graduate have a child and then try to get a job

Speaker:

Right you know so it's a smart plan it is it is I wish it wasn't very smart cause I'd be down to have a kid now

Speaker:

But it's not the smartest thing

Speaker:

Well we're gonna wait a little while

Speaker:

That's not the smartest thing now that's if we can we'll wait a little while

Speaker:

That's great I think that I thought about it a lot about like children and family and all that definitely want to do it

Speaker:

Um and I whenever I think of how I'd be like as a dad honestly like sometimes I look at employees and I'm just like you're just like a little kid

Speaker:

Like yeah I train you how to walk

Speaker:

I tell you how to do the thing

Speaker:

I gotta like you know SWAT your hand away when you're doing something you're not supposed to do when you get messed when you when you mess up you get punished

Speaker:

Yeah so and in my personal relationships one of the main things that would whenever I would come back home like when I would be with them or the main I would call like a kind of like a struggle point or a topic of arguments would be that hey I'm not sure not sure the employee that you gotta like you know cut it off

Speaker:

Or like it would be like you know talk to me a little less harsh a little less direct a little more calmly

Speaker:

You know you've been with someone for five years you know the majority of that was with you maybe in a job doing this on the weekends and then eventually you start doing this full time

Speaker:

Has that is that taking a toll or would you say it was for the best in terms of your relationship

Speaker:

Like like switching

Speaker:

Yeah like the whole entrepreneur journey first pros and cons you know like one of the cons of me doing on the weekends was we didn't have any time really together

Speaker:

Um if she was off on the weekends I was out mowing grass

Speaker:

And then when I got home I just wanted to rest cause I knew I had to go to work on Monday

Speaker:

Um so it's it's opened up a majority of my time to focus on cutting grass

Speaker:

Like I'm not worried about trying to do two things right

Speaker:

Um but again there's also times where I work harder doing this and I did just having a job and mowing grass so like she thankfully I kind of got lucky but you know my wife understands Spring Rush is very busy

Speaker:

We are friends almost

Speaker:

You know it's not the case you know I just say that but yeah like I'm I'm friends on her

Speaker:

I'm basically either cutting grass or I'm in the office and when I get done with that I have about an hour and then I pass out

Speaker:

So like she understands that for a good month I'm pretty busy

Speaker:

I don't have time to really go and do the fun things

Speaker:

I don't really get to see family

Speaker:

I don't really get to go to friends or anything like that

Speaker:

It's mainly just like business because that is our busy time

Speaker:

So I think once we grow out of this portion of where I'm at now into a larger step I'll be able to kind of break away from that you know which is always the goal is to grow and get to the point where you're not doing everything

Speaker:

Um but like she knows that there's times where I can't take Saturday off or I can't take Sunday off

Speaker:

Yeah I gotta do stuff

Speaker:

Um and she's understanding of that

Speaker:

But yeah I think I'm a strong believer that it takes a special person it takes a special person to start something and actually you know do it for a long time right

Speaker:

Stick with the same thing

Speaker:

Like whether you're a business owner or whether you're like even even like a regular job it takes a lot to just do the same thing over and over and over again because um we're naturally inclined to like novelty and new things but not this whatever stuff

Speaker:

You know we're not really made to be robots and do the same thing over and over

Speaker:

And especially as business owners and entrepreneurs it takes a special person to do it but it also takes another special person to be the one that's supporting that person right

Speaker:

I've been in relationships where it's been great and it's not been great right

Speaker:

Or whether that person thought that they were ready for that and then they weren't right

Speaker:

So shout out to Kailyn

Speaker:

Kailyn's a warrior and she is she's gone through it

Speaker:

Yeah she's gone through a lot of those like I I I slightly disagree with you on this and we talked about it last time was like I I I it does take relatively a special person but it's not really about the special person

Speaker:

It takes two special people

Speaker:

So okay you know after our conversation I kind of thought more of it and I was remembering our conversations about this is now I truly believe that takes two special people to do it because in a relationship there's compromises

Speaker:

It doesn't matter if it's you know I'm not you know one thing personally I'll live out of a laundry basket

Speaker:

I don't care I hate folding clothes but my wife can't stand clothes being in the laundry basket

Speaker:

Yeah

Speaker:

So the compromise was like I'll put them I'll put my dirty clothes in the laundry basket and she hangs them for me

Speaker:

And what I do in return is I throw the clothes in the washing machine so like I wash them and she folds and puts them away

Speaker:

Yeah

Speaker:

So a compromising business is like it did affect me with you know I'd be lying on the couch at eight o'clock at night and be watching TV with my wife and then a customer will call my business phone and I jump up answer him like oh this is sounds like what can I do for you

Speaker:

Whatever and do the estimate or like try to talk to him and then that that cook you know clients love to tell you their entire life story so it takes you 45 minutes to get off the phone with them

Speaker:

Um right

Speaker:

And that would make her upset because now I've missed 45 minutes of the TV show or movie or whatever we were doing you know make her upset

Speaker:

So her coming to me rationally and being like it's becoming a problem our relationship like you're always answering the phone you're not taking time for just me

Speaker:

So in return I compromised and now I know my phone is off at 7 like I don't care if you're giving going to give me a million dollar freaking contract if you call me past 7

Speaker:

Respectfully I'm not answering the phone

Speaker:

Right you can wait till Monday

Speaker:

Yeah so that was one thing that we had to do

Speaker:

That took two took her communicating with me and took me realizing that her concern is valid

Speaker:

Yeah of course and changing some stuff

Speaker:

Like there's some times where she's like during during the busy time of the year and been like oh you're always gone

Speaker:

And I'm like well right now I have to be if you don't want me to be later in the season cause if I can fill the schedule now I don't have to try to fill it later

Speaker:

Yeah it's not constantly

Speaker:

It's only it's only temporary but yeah I mean I can agree it takes two I mean it takes two to tango right but you it takes two because you have to be willing to uh huh you have to be willing to understand and possibly compromise

Speaker:

And they have to be willing to understand communicate and compromise exactly

Speaker:

And that's that's a big thing communication right now holding a grudge understanding that the person's not doing this on purpose right like you're not blowing her off and going away and working just just because you want to you wanna be with her

Speaker:

Yeah in Caitlin's eyes it was you see money over time with me yeah and it's not the case not how I felt

Speaker:

You know what I mean so communication is No

Speaker:

1

Speaker:

And if you don't communicate with your partner your spouse or your wife whatever or your husband and boyfriend whatever both sides

Speaker:

If you don't communicate one of the other will start envying herb maybe not envying but basically being upset at the other one

Speaker:

Hmm because they're not communicating

Speaker:

Yeah she had an understanding that I took money over our relationship which is not the case

Speaker:

I wasn't how I feel she was just an Assumption

Speaker:

Hmm so that's my hot take in the end of work

Speaker:

I don't even think it's a hot take

Speaker:

I think it's just like it's just a more detailed take right I believe that like as a manual leader right as a manual lead so it's like if you're leading your partner your spouse into a relationship where you have to will you have to do whatever is that you need to do in order for your future for every single goal that you have to be accomplished

Speaker:

Like it's your job to communicate to that person like hey the next 3 6 months like I'm gonna be like in hell

Speaker:

It's gonna be busy

Speaker:

I'm gonna be really tired

Speaker:

I don't know if I don't know if we're gonna get to do anything fun

Speaker:

I'm gonna spend as much quality time with you but I will do my best to you know put you first when it when it's necessary

Speaker:

I mean like you should always put the first right but you know life happens

Speaker:

Yeah but they also need to be able to understand that

Speaker:

And if they don't wanna sign up for that if that's not what they wanna do then that's a different conversation

Speaker:

I think like one of the biggest things I've heard recently is like your wife has to respect you

Speaker:

Yeah but that respect has to be earned

Speaker:

You know she doesn't just respect you for no reason

Speaker:

If you do shitty things she's not gonna respect you you know

Speaker:

And then second of all you know as you being a religious person as me as well as the Bible does say a man is supposed to lead the household but the Bible also says that a man is supposed to listen to his wife

Speaker:

Yeah supposed to die to yourself and give yourself to your wife

Speaker:

So that's part of the communication is I listened to my wife and then I LED the household by making a change that helped for the better

Speaker:

So I kind of made the decision but she told me the problem

Speaker:

So I can't think of the freaking scripture right now but basically off the top of my head it says something like a man that listens to a wife will be a will be a fruitful

Speaker:

It'll be a fruitful life

Speaker:

I think it's something with fruitful in it

Speaker:

Okay I can't I'm sorry I can't quote it right now

Speaker:

It's fine we'll play it in

Speaker:

Yeah but basically if you listen to your wife you'll be a fruitful man you'll be a fruitful man

Speaker:

Yeah I think yeah I believe that

Speaker:

And it's I mean it's pretty straightforward but you just you got lucky man you gotta be lucky you find a solid one

Speaker:

I'm sorry but I don't know I've been listening to this for a long time and the past five years you know last five years I would not wanna be in the dating game

Speaker:

No no no no you don't wanna be in the dating game

Speaker:

I haven't I haven't been in the dating in that long but from the the time like the year and some change that I've been in the dating game and it's rough out here

Speaker:

Man it is it's cut it's a nice battle you got a spoon dog it's cooked nothing bro I brought gloves that's it I bring nothing

Speaker:

It's it's cooked because we have unrealistic expectations we have disrespect all this and all that we could get into four hours

Speaker:

Yeah but and women thinking yeah they don't need a man and they don't need a man that they can do which is great

Speaker:

I mean shit I I agree I agree I love it

Speaker:

Like you shouldn't always need a man but you shouldn't always need a man

Speaker:

But you should want to want you should want to need a man not necessarily needs like the keywords need right the keywords seems like you depend

Speaker:

You cannot breathe without this man

Speaker:

This isn't like obviously like you definitely should as like a regular person regardless if you're a woman or not you should be able to rely on yourself and pick yourself up right

Speaker:

But I think that submission being submissive is not necessarily giving yourself up

Speaker:

It is but they the want the want to want to do that

Speaker:

That's kind of what I'm getting at

Speaker:

I think part of the problem is like you don't

Speaker:

It's good to be independent as a man or woman

Speaker:

It's good to be independent yeah but if you are comfortable in a relationship like I think a lot of problems is like women put too much trust into a man instantly and you know and then they get burnt

Speaker:

And then from that burnt they learn like oh all men are shit yeah which is not the case

Speaker:

You just found a bad apple

Speaker:

You know

Speaker:

So I think part of it is like once you are into a committed relationship and you are into a long term relationship you've been together for a year or two I think you should start transitioning yourself into being independent yes but also rely in certain aspects to your partner

Speaker:

And same with man

Speaker:

Like I couldn't do this on my own

Speaker:

I couldn't do this without Caitlin

Speaker:

Yeah yeah definitely you know I depend on her for certain things and she depends on me for certain things

Speaker:

So like a relationship like we keep saying is all about compromise isn't all about teamwork

Speaker:

It's YouTube versus the world it is

Speaker:

So why wouldn't you be dependent on your man for certain things and he be dependent on you for certain things

Speaker:

Like both of you should not be fully independent people cause there's no growth together

Speaker:

Yeah there's no team there's no team

Speaker:

It's just you know it's just you two alone

Speaker:

It'd be like yeah if it's kind of I'm gonna go to football for this

Speaker:

Yeah yeah um you have a quarterback and then you have the offensive line you have wide receivers and running back stuff like that

Speaker:

That is a team

Speaker:

Nothing was just one lineman and a quarterback and one wide receiver and the other team had you know linemen someone to watch the quarterback and someone to go out and try to catch the ball from the receiver

Speaker:

You would make any good plays

Speaker:

Like yeah it takes a team to do great things

Speaker:

Yeah same thing with business yeah even if you work a job if you have a shitty team you're not hitting the sales goal you're not hitting production you're not hitting whatever the goal is of your team because you have a crappy team

Speaker:

It takes everyone together to do great things same thing with governments same if you look at anything during history no one person did great things alone

Speaker:

Yeah even Jesus even him he had disciples

Speaker:

He didn't do it all on his own

Speaker:

Yeah they spread his message exactly and it takes a great team and takes a great leader as well right like you have Jesus great leader you have every single general and every single battle great leaders even the ones that did horrible things you know they had a whole team and they had a whole country behind them and stuff cause they thought they were great leaders

Speaker:

So we're doing a great thing takes the team no matter what it is

Speaker:

Yeah exactly so what what do you think our qualities are great leaders then qualities are great leaders

Speaker:

Yeah what what makes people what makes people want to want to be LED leading from the front and listening to your team

Speaker:

Okay I think that's the number number like me being an employee in the past that's the number one things I looked for

Speaker:

If I had a supervisor just sat in the truck all day and just pointed his finger and said go do this on this and then he just sat there in the truck all day

Speaker:

I didn't respect him

Speaker:

Yeah so a lot of it is earning your respect from your team yeah walking the talk

Speaker:

Yeah so like lead from the front

Speaker:

Okay if there's one thing I also couldn't stand was like if there was something we had to get done by Monday we have to work overtime on Saturday and then the boss doesn't show up because oh well I'm so early

Speaker:

Yeah I'm not getting paid for it

Speaker:

You know like I told you yeah it is a bad taste

Speaker:

Yeah it's just like well I'm here struggling and you're at home

Speaker:

Uh huh so one of the one of the number one things that even all of Augustus says is you're the first one to show up and you're last one to leave

Speaker:

Uh huh no matter if you're a GM or if you were the owner yeah you're the first one to show up last to leave

Speaker:

Uh huh and then also in Mike's instance like he will he used to go out on a boat on a yacht to do work because he needed to be able to get away and focus on stuff

Speaker:

But he would let his team know what he's working on or bring them in too yeah brother in a couple times

Speaker:

And he would also say before he was at that point like hey guys um it's you know 4:00 I'm out here doing estimates um do any ever get wrapped up whatever

Speaker:

Like he would send them a video or a voicemail of of what he's doing so they know that he's actually working

Speaker:

So they don't get the idea oh he's just sitting at home with his feet kicked up letting us work making all money while we're out here busting our asses

Speaker:

Exactly yeah I think so

Speaker:

I mean it's just like he said even look at history George Washington first president every single battle that he was in he was front center

Speaker:

Uh same thing with like Napoleon same thing with gang is costing thing with like all those Roman people first in line

Speaker:

They had a great team and they were like yeah let's go do it

Speaker:

Let's just all go

Speaker:

Their team trusted them yeah yeah with their lives

Speaker:

Uh huh yeah it's it's it's one of those lessons that gets repeatedly taught throughout every single generation

Speaker:

That's great examples right like for example like um even with like Elon Musk right now bro does not go to his mansion and chill

Speaker:

Right you can call him whatever you wanna call him right if you like him or not doesn't really matter

Speaker:

You can't fight the facts right sleeping on the factory floor throughout like the worst weeks of Tesla sleeping on the factory floor at Spacex going in with engineers and working on everything and like soliciting parts and you know yes flying his private jet here and there here and there but for what for business bringing his team along buy now companies and repurposing them with a team in the trenches

Speaker:

Right he's not just like from like some luxurious office in this man exactly mansion making calls

Speaker:

Yeah his boots on the ground making and he's built amazing companies whether you like it or not

Speaker:

You know he might be a he may be a questionable person from a personal side but you can't deny the fact that he is a great leader

Speaker:

You cannot but you cannot possibly build multi billion dollar companies if you're not a great leader

Speaker:

It's just that's just not how it works from nothing from nothing he wasn't handed yeah a multi million dollar company and grow it to a billion

Speaker:

Yeah I know he's insane insane crazy

Speaker:

They got same thing with Jeff Bezos same thing with um what's the guys in um fucking apple

Speaker:

I can't I'm blanking I'm blanking Steve Jobs Steve Jobs you know they all have their controversies

Speaker:

They all probably should people at some point qualities that you know are not necessarily the best but they were in the trenches they have great leadership and they had most importantly great people around them that believed in their mission that weren't indoctrinated that were whatever into like their little bubble of thought and they got the shit done

Speaker:

You wanna know what the number one um millionaire of America that was self made

Speaker:

Who what their career was

Speaker:

What

Speaker:

A teacher teacher

Speaker:

Yeah teachers are the number one self made millionaires

Speaker:

I remember I remember we touched on this but at it's it's weird because I mean I would think that it's because retirement accounts and because it is all that right it by the time they retire from teaching you know they're like what 50 67 years old or something like that

Speaker:

So they did their due diligence and they did a retirement account early on

Speaker:

By the time they by the time they actually miss whores

Speaker:

And they take all the money it's a couple million dollars

Speaker:

What's the number one quality of a teacher

Speaker:

They teach dedication dedication cause no one teaches for the money hmm nobody teaches for the money this is taking horrible shit exactly

Speaker:

Yeah it's dedication so they're dedicated to paying off their house they're dedicated to putting money into a 4:01 k they're dedicated in what they do

Speaker:

Yeah you gotta love what you do you gotta love what you do to be a teacher you gotta deal with all those little shithead kids like me and you were at one point yeah I cannot imagine dealing with a classroom full of me holy fuck no that was good now just crash out fuck no I'm like you're 18 now you're 18 now let's run it yo catch me outside bro

Speaker:

That's crazy but no yeah it's it's pretty weird it's pretty crazy life is weird you should think life is crazy

Speaker:
