Speaker:

>> Jonathan: You guys that just hit play.

Speaker:

Thanks for giving us support on this beautiful

Speaker:

Thursday here, wherever you are, you're listening

Speaker:

to chase and birdies pep.

Speaker:

I'm running out of things to say to you, bud. This is three weeks in a

Speaker:

row.

Speaker:

>> RB: Three weeks in a row. But it feels good. Back to back

Speaker:

weeks.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> RB: just giving the people what they want, you know?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: And it's like you just. You laugh at my

Speaker:

intro, what I say, what I don't say. So I switched it up a little

Speaker:

bit for you, threw you with a little curve ball.

Speaker:

Sounded good, and, ah, I love it. My

Speaker:

son, again. Yeah, thanks.

Speaker:

>> RB: I love it.

Speaker:

And as always, today's episode is

Speaker:

brought to you by. Red Vanley. Bud, you got

Speaker:

some new swag, huh? Jim came through.

Speaker:

Let's go.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Good.

Speaker:

>> RB: Look good. so go over to redvanley.com,

Speaker:

check them out. I had a little golf

Speaker:

trip this weekend, bud.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: you know, I've heard you mention this a couple of times,

Speaker:

and, you know, it's

Speaker:

when you have a best friend like this, naturally, we

Speaker:

have two of us, including BK. We all get to go

Speaker:

on different golf trips, but, you know, there's always that feeling

Speaker:

of, well, hey, my buddy's getting to do this, and I'm not on this

Speaker:

one. And there is absolutely

Speaker:

zero jealousy from any angle. Dude,

Speaker:

I am stoked for you. I heard you talking about this little trip you got going

Speaker:

on, and it sounds like it's shaping up to

Speaker:

be a pretty damn good one for you.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah, it's going to be fun. got a little sage valley on

Speaker:

Monday and Tuesday. We were

Speaker:

supposed to do Peachtree on Sunday when we landed, but

Speaker:

club championship at Peachtree got in the way.

Speaker:

Final round. I asked him if I could play in the final round. My score doesn't

Speaker:

have to count. I said, They

Speaker:

declined.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Like, a member role of someone out of town or someone

Speaker:

that never shows up or maybe for them

Speaker:

show up dress. Yeah.

Speaker:

>> RB: I'm Harry Smith, and then I win the club championship,

Speaker:

and my name's on the board at Peachtree. I'm not a member.

Speaker:

Yeah, that'd be fun.

Speaker:

So, very nice.

Speaker:

So, yeah, that.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I'm.

Speaker:

>> RB: I'm excited for that one. Sage Valley, which you've turned down, funny

Speaker:

enough. so I'll fill you in.

Speaker:

Thanks on that. What? What?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: No. I mean, I did. I did turn down. Not this trip.

Speaker:

>> RB: Specific trip.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Well, because I couldn't make it work. So sometimes I got to say

Speaker:

no, but who? So it's you and walks and who's.

Speaker:

>> RB: All going Ray Fulcher, Tyler reeve,

Speaker:

Cole, Taylor, and Jim Fury's gonna be

Speaker:

there with.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So, maybe fluff will be floating.

Speaker:

>> RB: Around, too, but can you imagine fluff on my bag?

Speaker:

He'd be so lost. He would just

Speaker:

like. Like, what are you. What?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> RB: But, I'm excited they have that lit up

Speaker:

par three course. Got some great cigars for us to

Speaker:

smoke down there, so I'm really excited to see the boys

Speaker:

and get to see Sage Valley for the first time. And Athens country

Speaker:

club with Schaefer, which I'm excited for. Everybody

Speaker:

talks about that little donald Ross gem. So

Speaker:

excited for that.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: How was just talking about. I'll bookmark

Speaker:

that. I was just talking about shaver today. you know, I golfed

Speaker:

with, Buzzo, Randy Buzz, who owns

Speaker:

Pete die, and the question was asked, has anyone ever

Speaker:

asked who designed a course? Pete die golf club. Who's designed Pete

Speaker:

die golf club? Naturally, it's Pete dye. Right? But me

Speaker:

being. I don't want to say gullible, but sometimes

Speaker:

I just give people the benefit of the doubt for just

Speaker:

stupid. On number ten, shaver,

Speaker:

the guy you're playing Athens country club with, said, who

Speaker:

designed this place? Again? And I looked at him and I

Speaker:

said, p ty. And he's like.

Speaker:

I'm like, man, I thought. I thought you were serious. Like, I was helping you

Speaker:

out.

Speaker:

>> RB: There you go with it again. There you go with it. Hey,

Speaker:

Saturday. This past Saturday, pretty good

Speaker:

gambling day for the boys. We had a pretty strong

Speaker:

day. Wasn't great, wasn't bad.

Speaker:

Was good.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> RB: it was fun to watch.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Fun to watch somebody's game, not fun to watch the Mountaineers. That

Speaker:

was absolutely awful.

Speaker:

>> RB: the Georgia Bulldogs came through, which was a little bit of a risky move

Speaker:

with the way Texas has been playing. So glad we were

Speaker:

on the, on the, right side of that one.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Hey, bud. You know, sorry to interrupt you. I just thought of something.

Speaker:

You're talking about your golf trip. You know who just, played

Speaker:

Pine Valley this week? Jr.

Speaker:

Has junior made it out east?

Speaker:

>> RB: Well, yeah, he's got a nice one lined up.

Speaker:

Yeah, I'm happy for him.

Speaker:

He's going to have all kinds of pine Valley swag. I'm sure.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I might. Yeah.

Speaker:

>> RB: I mean, so, you know, good for him, though. I'm glad he

Speaker:

got. That's a hard get to

Speaker:

get. So good for junior. I guess it's

Speaker:

about time, but,

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, football was. It was good.

Speaker:

>> RB: Sunday was a little bit of a disappointment for me

Speaker:

personally. Took the parlay, lost that, and

Speaker:

then I took the jets at minus two and a half. Got

Speaker:

smoked on that, which you haven't been talking

Speaker:

too much, which leads me to believe you took the

Speaker:

Steelers.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I did.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah. There you go.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I did.

Speaker:

>> RB: I knew it. You are such a little rat. Well, you

Speaker:

are a rat. You put your bed in

Speaker:

at 6630. Dude, I

Speaker:

know.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: He puts his bed at 630. The game kicks off at

Speaker:

830, and I'm, like, undecided. I

Speaker:

asked him if he put his bed in for next weekend already, too. I

Speaker:

mean, but at least, like ten minutes before the game's good. But

Speaker:

I did a little research. That line moved back up two and a half,

Speaker:

and I just felt like. Like, you know what? Tomlin doesn't lose.

Speaker:

>> RB: You're such.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Too often. Well, so.

Speaker:

>> RB: You're so sneaky.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, but what about all the times I helped you?

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Yeah, yeah.

Speaker:

>> RB: I mean, but what about the Tennessee one? I

Speaker:

said Tennessee. I picked the Georgia one. Yeah,

Speaker:

let's.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: You had some dubs.

Speaker:

>> RB: And then hockey this week was a great one for me. not

Speaker:

for you. The one night that you take, of course, but hockey

Speaker:

was great for me. but, yeah, it's exciting, dude.

Speaker:

It's, Everything is firing on all cylinders, and, including

Speaker:

today's episode.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I love it, man.

Speaker:

Greg camp joins us here on Jason birdies. We met him down in

Speaker:

Nashville at old Hickory country club. just

Speaker:

a cool guy, man. An avid outdoorsman, has

Speaker:

done a lot of hunts. You can call him a professional hunter,

Speaker:

frankly, and outdoor, apparel. So we

Speaker:

thought, what the hell? You know what, Greg? Let's get you on the podcast

Speaker:

and hear about you chasing birdies in life. And naturally, he

Speaker:

does somewhat like golf, so it worked out

Speaker:

great.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah. So, I'm really looking forward to our first duck

Speaker:

hunt with him. it's gonna be exciting and, you

Speaker:

know, we'll dress appropriately for this and,

Speaker:

yeah, we will do that.

Speaker:

So, without further ado, let's

Speaker:

roll it on over to Greg camp. Listen, he has to say, let's

Speaker:

go.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: You know, as we mentioned on the last episode here on

Speaker:

Chase and birdies, we are inching closer

Speaker:

to winter. But

Speaker:

before winter, we obviously have a great season in fall.

Speaker:

You and I pep love fall golf, but there are

Speaker:

outdoor enthusiasts stationed all over the world

Speaker:

that this is their season. Now. It's hunting

Speaker:

time now, whether or not it's all year or just

Speaker:

in this specific timeframe, within the year,

Speaker:

that's what people do. They chase bucks, chase tail,

Speaker:

chase ducks, whatever. And we got Greg

Speaker:

camp joining us. Today on Jason

Speaker:

birdies, founder of Halo waterfowl and other

Speaker:

things we'll get into. My man, Greg. We've never had a real hunter

Speaker:

on the show, man, so I'm stoked to have you,

Speaker:

man.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: I'm your first redneck ever, huh? Real

Speaker:

redneck?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Well, I wouldn't say that, but, well, maybe.

Speaker:

>> RB: No, we had, Willie Robertson on.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Oh, yeah, we had Willie Robertson on from Duck Dynasty.

Speaker:

>> RB: I mean, that's. He's an outdoor.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: He's a legit hunter. He's the real

Speaker:

deal.

Speaker:

>> RB: So you're second.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Yeah, I'm so. Okay.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: But that was many moons ago. I actually forgot about that pep. How could

Speaker:

I forget that?

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: That's a pretty big one.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: But anyways, man, it's good to have you on, man. I don't

Speaker:

know. I know you're kind of new to us, and we're kind of new to you,

Speaker:

but, in the last episode of the podcast, I was talking about the

Speaker:

long drive contest down there at, old hickory,

Speaker:

and pep rolled up and saw you, and he legitimately thought this

Speaker:

guy was what you look. You're built. So it makes sense to

Speaker:

his defense.

Speaker:

>> RB: Based off his looks. He looks like he's a long

Speaker:

draft champion, so he looks

Speaker:

deceiving.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: He starts asking you if you know these guys that are actual

Speaker:

long drivers, and you're like. You're looking at this kid like, what in the

Speaker:

hell are you talking about?

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: But, like, yeah,

Speaker:

that was one thing that I don't know. I think that was part of the

Speaker:

trick. Everybody just thought I could really crush the ball, you know?

Speaker:

I did some push ups before everybody got there, but, I

Speaker:

don't know. I love golf, but, you know, I don't know that I'm as

Speaker:

good as that, that flyer made me out to be.

Speaker:

Especially be wearing those jorts and that cartoon, hey, come

Speaker:

beat Greg camp from Halo waterfowl, the long drive competition.

Speaker:

People thought I was the man they got here. This guy's a

Speaker:

joke.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Wow. You know what?

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: I didn't get better as y'all left. I know

Speaker:

everybody says that, but I think y'all were, like, the fifth

Speaker:

group after that. I really found my niche. But

Speaker:

that's easy for me to say now.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah. And, you know, when we get into

Speaker:

the golf talk, we'll talk a little bit about that. But certainly once you

Speaker:

get a little bit of repetition going, just like anything,

Speaker:

then you'll start connecting, you know? So, I mean, that makes

Speaker:

sense, but, you know. You in

Speaker:

Georgia now, or are you from Arkansas originally? Where are you right

Speaker:

now?

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: I'm a Georgia boy. Georgia native. born and

Speaker:

raised here. Still live here today. So I'm

Speaker:

a. I'm a. I'm a Georgia peach. Old

Speaker:

redneck.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Well, you got some nice racks hanging around that room right

Speaker:

behind you there.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Well, thank you, man. I appreciate that. It's, a lot of

Speaker:

years of sitting, in the deer stand. I

Speaker:

promise you that.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So talk a little bit about the halo

Speaker:

waterfall, because I know you tossed us a couple polos,

Speaker:

which we're very appreciative of and whatnot. And,

Speaker:

so just want to kind of hear a little bit about that background with

Speaker:

that story.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Absolutely. So, you know, I'll give you the,

Speaker:

short version. you know, halo Waterfowl

Speaker:

was founded in 2013. My

Speaker:

brother and I wanted to build, a lifestyle

Speaker:

company that, we could be proud of. And that did something a little

Speaker:

different than, most companies that we, are

Speaker:

familiar with. You know, our goal was not to be an apparel

Speaker:

company or, necessarily a,

Speaker:

company that made something. It was more

Speaker:

of a lifestyle company, something that a lot of

Speaker:

people could just relate to. And, I felt

Speaker:

like, and he and my brother chase felt like to

Speaker:

doing something american made out of the gate would sort

Speaker:

of signify that or

Speaker:

make that relevant and real. And the way we

Speaker:

did that is through making an american made hunting

Speaker:

jacket. Every piece of it was sourced in

Speaker:

America and built in Georgia. An old school

Speaker:

waterfowl hunting jacket, old school

Speaker:

wax canvas. So we sourced all the pieces of part

Speaker:

all over the country and built the jacket

Speaker:

in, Bremen, Georgia, at, a factory called

Speaker:

sewell manufacturing. It's been around for about 80 years,

Speaker:

and that's sort of where we got our start, making an old school

Speaker:

jacket that a bunch of, grandmas

Speaker:

and grandpas sit around and theyre still

Speaker:

cutting and sewing. I mean, each one of these jackets are handmade.

Speaker:

We make a couple hundred a year. And, Man,

Speaker:

its just tried and true

Speaker:

american made materials, products, down to

Speaker:

the zipper and the buttons and the snaps.

Speaker:

And, you know, it has been really cool. And

Speaker:

we got a lot of recognition for doing something that was

Speaker:

different. And, that's kind of where we got our

Speaker:

start.

Speaker:

>> RB: So is that jacket that you manufacture, is

Speaker:

it waterproof?

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, it's made out of the same thing as our us

Speaker:

military's tents. Old school wax canvas.

Speaker:

Like if you went to the Colorado Rockies

Speaker:

and you bought the best tent out there,

Speaker:

in years past, it's wax canvas. or if they went when they

Speaker:

went desert storm. Wax can, whatever that is.

Speaker:

And it cuts the wind, it cuts the rain. It's non

Speaker:

insulated, but it will, it will

Speaker:

shield you from the elements.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Now, with your love for outdoors,

Speaker:

and I know hunting kind of takes precedence,

Speaker:

but are you in the same

Speaker:

realm, like, with fishing

Speaker:

or.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: I mean, I love fishing, especially freshwater

Speaker:

fishing. You, know, we grew up catching bass and

Speaker:

brim and crappie and all that stuff.

Speaker:

Catfish trooping,

Speaker:

on. I love salt water, but I'm a little bit of a

Speaker:

sissy because I get sick a little bit if I'm getting

Speaker:

on real rocky water. And, you know, it's one of those deals where

Speaker:

you got to take dramatic or just start drinking cold beer early in

Speaker:

the morning, one or the other. So, you know,

Speaker:

just either one. I do love, like, I love

Speaker:

cobia fishing, you know, in the spring,

Speaker:

you know, I like to, you know, I'm sort of a

Speaker:

fair weather fisherman running up and down the coast, catching

Speaker:

those covia. You can jump in the water and swim

Speaker:

to. Swim to the sand if you want to, but,

Speaker:

no, I do love it. I'm not as mad at

Speaker:

the fish as I am, the big bucks

Speaker:

and ducks and turkey, though.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah. And coming from where we are,

Speaker:

we're not too far from you, but I'm in West Virginia, peps,

Speaker:

up around the Pittsburgh area. You know, we

Speaker:

take. School gets canceled on Monday, first day of rifle season

Speaker:

in November. After Thanksgiving, they don't. They

Speaker:

can't go on Mondays for hunting.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Yeah, I love that. I'm thinking about moving

Speaker:

there over that.

Speaker:

>> RB: I mean, it's like a big deal. It's a huge deal.

Speaker:

I mean, I love you.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So me personally, and I, I don't

Speaker:

know about pep, if he's had ever had any experience, but obviously,

Speaker:

we're. We're not the avid hunters, but I

Speaker:

really do enjoy the outdoors. I mean, and

Speaker:

so, you know, I find myself for, for

Speaker:

example, last year, I set up some trail cams. I got a

Speaker:

feeder auto feeder. Twice a day goes off because

Speaker:

we have so many deer around here. I like watching them, you know.

Speaker:

but I've only shot one deer in my life, man. A couple years ago, I

Speaker:

went archery hunting and, and got me a nice little

Speaker:

buck. And, and that was it. So

Speaker:

I'm one and done. But I definitely want to get it back out there.

Speaker:

I mean, hunting is very therapeutic,

Speaker:

not just to me, but I'm saying to probably you guys, there's

Speaker:

a adrenaline aspect to it. So

Speaker:

I kind of imagine, you know, if pep and I go on a hunt with

Speaker:

y'all, whether it's for ducks or turkeys or hogs or

Speaker:

whatever it is, it'll feel like some guys coming on golf

Speaker:

trips with us where they're like, just, we're looking for someone

Speaker:

to lead us.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Absolutely. There's nothing more

Speaker:

exhilarating, that pumps me up, or whatever you want to call it,

Speaker:

when folks who don't do it that much

Speaker:

get out there and, like, the ducks break down

Speaker:

through the timber, and they're just like, on top of you, or

Speaker:

a big buck walks in, or you got a turkey goblin at 20

Speaker:

yards. When those guys see that for

Speaker:

the first time, or even if they've seen it

Speaker:

but in a different capacity, maybe it's not as intense

Speaker:

as what we can get them in. Man, it blows my

Speaker:

mind to see people just light up, because when you do it

Speaker:

once and you really get the full experience,

Speaker:

you're hooked. You're hooked, man. I love it. I

Speaker:

love seeing people, and the older I get, I remember

Speaker:

growing up and hearing older dudes blowing, hey, man, I just want to

Speaker:

see kids, you know, a youngster get out there and do

Speaker:

it. I don't care if I even shoot them anymore. And I could never

Speaker:

relate to that. And I was like, what are they talking about? Like, I always want to

Speaker:

shoot, but the older I get, I get what they're

Speaker:

saying because they just want to get new folks in the

Speaker:

door, get them doing it. So it gets. That

Speaker:

actually sends, gives me a little chill right now thinking about it. I can't

Speaker:

wait for y'all to get out there and see some of that.

Speaker:

>> RB: Well, I mean, I have ADHD

Speaker:

severely, so you guys might lose me about ten minutes into either

Speaker:

the hunt or the, duck hunt, the deer hunt,

Speaker:

whatever. But I'll light a cigar. I'll probably scare everybody

Speaker:

away.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: that happens a lot, actually.

Speaker:

>> RB: I'm not your ideal hunter because I smoke cigars left and

Speaker:

right, so I'm like, yeah.

Speaker:

the only outdoor stuff I do and enjoy is

Speaker:

fishing. I love the fish, and I don't do it enough,

Speaker:

and I wish I did. My son actually

Speaker:

loves to fish, and, that's what I

Speaker:

had to go to Cabela's last week. That was an experience

Speaker:

in itself. And wheeling, West Virginia, I

Speaker:

mean, like, it would have been like that guy

Speaker:

asking me for golf balls type thing I'm looking like.

Speaker:

But, it's. It's awesome. I have a lot of friends that do it. And

Speaker:

did your dad, your grandfather, are

Speaker:

they the ones that got you into it, or did you kind of start

Speaker:

yourself?

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Yeah. Well, before I answer that, you're a perfect candidate

Speaker:

for a turkey hunter, a duck hunter, because they can't

Speaker:

smell, so you can smoke all the

Speaker:

stones you got, baby, light up. We're light them up.

Speaker:

You know, if you got them. But, Yeah, but, that's a great

Speaker:

question. You know, my dad got me into deer hunting.

Speaker:

My brother and I both. I mean, he was, that's one thing. Like, you know, we

Speaker:

didn't come from a bunch of money. One thing he. We did come

Speaker:

from a house of love. And, my dad, one of the

Speaker:

things, he was very adamant about it, and he's always a good

Speaker:

athlete, but he was a better

Speaker:

outdoorsman. He was really good at introducing us

Speaker:

to, deer hunting at an early age, and

Speaker:

turkey hunting and, of course, squirrel hunting. I

Speaker:

mean, you can't pass that up. And an occasional

Speaker:

dove hunt. We never had dove fields that were like,

Speaker:

you could imagine now, but we'd go out and try to find some

Speaker:

doves. But deer hunting and turkey hunting was, you

Speaker:

know, something that we looked, looked forward

Speaker:

to every year. I mean, it was the old school days

Speaker:

where you're deer hunting and you, like, you're

Speaker:

hunting on a piece of property. There's. We're in some kind of

Speaker:

deer lease back in the eighties

Speaker:

or nineties, and you're sitting there, and the guy

Speaker:

pulls up into orange, and his camo looks

Speaker:

horrible, and he's like a cigarette and got these big glasses

Speaker:

and Elmer Fudd hat. He's like, yeah, I

Speaker:

got a big doe and a three pointer, a spike and a

Speaker:

five pointer. you know, he's got, like, five deer. And that

Speaker:

was before deer management was cool. Like, just whatever you could

Speaker:

pile on your four wheeler. That's how I remember growing

Speaker:

up. And my, dad always told us, hey, son,

Speaker:

we're not out here to do that. We're out here to enjoy

Speaker:

God's creation and get some

Speaker:

meat. Bring home the family, man. That's how we

Speaker:

got into.

Speaker:

And I think that's where my passion for it really resonates,

Speaker:

from.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: That's awesome. I mean, you can tell you have the

Speaker:

passion, and you're like the prototype

Speaker:

hunter, outdoorsman, man. Looking at you, it's like,

Speaker:

yeah, if I want to go hunting, I want to go with this

Speaker:

guy.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Well, thanks, man. Shook.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Did you ever, have you guys seen that video that

Speaker:

went viral, like, a year or two ago of that clown in

Speaker:

Bass pro shop where he jumps into

Speaker:

the water feature.

Speaker:

And he goes.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Yes, it's a great video. Like, I don't, I don't

Speaker:

know why I thought that was so funny,

Speaker:

but one of my buddies, josh, sent me that. And I

Speaker:

was like, he's like, no, no, I'm, I'm here. I

Speaker:

was like, I'm here. I just saw it. I said, what are you doing to bass pro

Speaker:

shot? He said, don't worry about it. I just sent you the video. I was like,

Speaker:

that guy has lost his mind, but it's

Speaker:

unbelievable.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Lost his mind? Yeah. I mean, he was like, naked.

Speaker:

>> RB: Jumped out, didn't he?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, he jumped out. He pulled him out, or he jumped out, fell out on the

Speaker:

floor, and then they cuffed him up. But he was like, nude.

Speaker:

It was.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Brings drinking to a new level.

Speaker:

Like, I mean, he. When he. If you think about it,

Speaker:

that piece of glass is like this

Speaker:

thick at a, bass pro shop. It's a

Speaker:

hundred percent, at least 10ft

Speaker:

tall. And that climbed

Speaker:

over it and face planted on that

Speaker:

concrete like, that had to hurt. That left a

Speaker:

mark in the words.

Speaker:

>> RB: That was enough punishment.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Joker still has a concussion.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Oh, he's still. Yeah, no doubt. He's still banged up. He's probably still

Speaker:

locked up, too. Maybe. but have you ever gone out

Speaker:

west and hunted?

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: I have. I have, like,

Speaker:

old school out. Ah, west. I've done it. Ah,

Speaker:

I've done it. My, again. my

Speaker:

dad took us to, we would always fly into

Speaker:

Denver and drive up to, Glenwood

Speaker:

Springs, Colorado. And then from

Speaker:

there we would drive another two and a half hours

Speaker:

up into, like the Kincaid mountain range or

Speaker:

something, like out past Craig, Colorado.

Speaker:

And we'd go up in the northwest corner of Colorado and

Speaker:

we'd go hunt mule deer and elk.

Speaker:

like three or four times. I never, I

Speaker:

never killed, anything. My uncle killed some,

Speaker:

my dad killed some. But, you know, growing up, it was

Speaker:

neat to be a part of that because those are the things

Speaker:

I remember my whole life. And it was more

Speaker:

than killing, it was about the experience

Speaker:

of being out in the middle of nowhere. And, I mean, I remember

Speaker:

us being in one of these old school wax canvas

Speaker:

tents with like, like this heater

Speaker:

in the middle of it. They turned it off and you, like, you're. It was

Speaker:

warm and you fall asleep and then you're

Speaker:

like, I'll never hear. The first time I ever went out

Speaker:

there, I woke up in the middle of night and I had to pee. And I

Speaker:

was like, oh, my God, I'm gonna get out and pee. And, when

Speaker:

you pull that blanket off, I mean, it was, like,

Speaker:

18 degrees. And he, like, you go outside the pee

Speaker:

in the tent where there's bears and

Speaker:

mountain lions, and they're like, hey, don't get eaten by a bear. Like,

Speaker:

it. You get out there and you're like, you don't want to go to the bathroom

Speaker:

that bad. Like, I'll just hold it till daylight. You know,

Speaker:

some of that stuff. And it was really cold. But, man, we grew

Speaker:

up roughing it out west and trying to

Speaker:

brush your teeth with, like, water and,

Speaker:

like, just no running water. And we were out there for,

Speaker:

like, seven days in the middle of nowhere.

Speaker:

>> RB: And I was.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: That's crazy. The older I get, again, I want to

Speaker:

go somewhere not quite that extreme. But we did that

Speaker:

for, like, ten years, like, every other

Speaker:

year.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Damn it. Yeah, you need some posh, posh

Speaker:

amenities now at your stage.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: I ain't gonna lie, man. I take it a little easier these days. I

Speaker:

go to places we got a little bit of running water and

Speaker:

electricity.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: so you had mentioned back in Nashville, when

Speaker:

we met, that Riley green

Speaker:

is a partner of yours in this company as well, or

Speaker:

something to do with you.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: He is. Riley's a good friend and, obviously a

Speaker:

heck of a country music artist. And

Speaker:

I, will say this about my buddy Riley. He is the real

Speaker:

deal. And, what you see is what you get.

Speaker:

He is, just as good a hunter as he is

Speaker:

a songwriter, and

Speaker:

artist. just a hell of a guy.

Speaker:

we were introduced from a buddy of mine, Tyler Crewett,

Speaker:

back in

Speaker:

2015,

Speaker:

introduced us, and, we went duck hunting together.

Speaker:

And, been, friends ever since. It was

Speaker:

kind of before Halo was really halo and

Speaker:

before Riley was really Riley. And, you

Speaker:

know, he just hung out, man. And he's, since, become

Speaker:

a partner in halo and just a heck of a. And has always

Speaker:

been heck of a good friend.

Speaker:

>> RB: I see that he likes cigars, from time to time,

Speaker:

too.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: So, yeah, he ain't scared of a cigar. I mean,

Speaker:

he won't crush them, daily, but, he'll

Speaker:

partake time, to time.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Well, I gotta say. Cause you said, you know,

Speaker:

he's the real deal, whatever you mentioned earlier. But,

Speaker:

you know, we're playing in this golf tournament, and pep

Speaker:

and I knew a lot of the guys there, you know, just from doing this for a while and

Speaker:

being buddies with some of those boys down there, but

Speaker:

I never had any encounter with Riley green

Speaker:

before. And, you know,

Speaker:

I see him kind of walking around and I go to pep. I'm like,

Speaker:

dude, that is one good looking

Speaker:

dude, man.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Golly, I think he gets that a lot.

Speaker:

>> RB: yeah, I think he's doing all right with the

Speaker:

ladies.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Yeah, that's one thing. He, he, may

Speaker:

have a few issues. Women ain't one of them.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: No, I can guarantee that. But.

Speaker:

But that's awesome, man. You know, you kind of get. I think that's

Speaker:

what's cool about, like, for example, Jonathan, he's got

Speaker:

relationships with guys that, like, you go,

Speaker:

how in the hell are you friends with these people? But it's

Speaker:

like, ah, ah. At an organic state,

Speaker:

you just kind of, kind of,

Speaker:

just mesh well with someone. And

Speaker:

regardless of what they're doing in life, it doesn't matter. It's

Speaker:

like this person and I mesh on this level. I don't give a

Speaker:

crap what he's doing or if he's famous. Not famous,

Speaker:

athlete, whatever. It's just about that

Speaker:

connection, you know? And, for guys, that's important because at the end of the

Speaker:

day, you know, outside of your family and

Speaker:

close friends that you have, when you start making

Speaker:

new friends or whatnot, you really

Speaker:

don't want to surround yourself with a bunch of assholes.

Speaker:

I mean, just amen.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Amen to that. There's no doubt, man.

Speaker:

I've been very blessed with a wonderful, beautiful

Speaker:

wife and three beautiful kids and two puppy

Speaker:

dogs, one of which I showed you a few minutes ago. But,

Speaker:

you know, it's funny how, you know, one of my buddies told me

Speaker:

a long time ago, in high school, you're giving

Speaker:

your friends in college, you get to

Speaker:

pick them, right? And that's sort of how the rest of

Speaker:

your life goes. After college, you want to be

Speaker:

around the people that you like and that are

Speaker:

equally yoked and sort of,

Speaker:

you know, you got those friends you like. You look at your buddies like, hey, I'm

Speaker:

going to introduce you to this guy. He's one of us. That you want to

Speaker:

be the guy that they're like, he's one of us. When you get brought

Speaker:

into a new group, so life's too short to surround

Speaker:

yourself with people that aren't one of us, so to

Speaker:

speak, right?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> RB: Now you're for sure. I mean, that's why, like, when you

Speaker:

plan golf trips, and I'm sure with you, with hunting trips,

Speaker:

like, you got to think out who's going on a trip, because

Speaker:

I'm going to be away for two to three days with these people. I want to

Speaker:

have fun, and I don't want to have to deal with bullshit or anything like

Speaker:

that. I want to smoke cigars, drink some

Speaker:

tequila, hit some. Okay. Golf shots

Speaker:

here and there and have fun.

Speaker:

>> Speaker C: Yes, absolutely. 100%.

Speaker:

I have, the older I get back to what

Speaker:

you said a minute ago, you're very.

Speaker:

We're all very fortunate to have a lot of acquaintances

Speaker:

and a lot of friends, but there is a

Speaker:

select group that you want to spend hunting camp

Speaker:

with, you know, guys who. I

Speaker:

don't want to get into the details of

Speaker:

what it takes to be that, but at the end of the day,

Speaker:

it's real short and simple. Guys

Speaker:

who are equally yoked and just want

Speaker:

to have fun and not stingy, don't care who

Speaker:

kills. They're just happy for whoever does,

Speaker:

and to your point, wants to smoke a cigar or have a

Speaker:

cocktail or have a beer or drink a

Speaker:

coke, whatever. Just chill and relaxed,

Speaker:

you know, that's just somebody who just may, you gotta have,

Speaker:

you gotta have a few people just to, create

Speaker:

that right ebb and flow. And, man, it's fun when

Speaker:

you get three or four or five buddies in camp that are like

Speaker:

that.

Speaker:

>> RB: So you talk about camp. So Ryan and I, we

Speaker:

go on a fair number of golf trips with some of our buddies every year.

Speaker:

And, you know, we're so amped up, we're gonna stay up till

03 00:27:01

00 a.m. the next day, drinking all night, and we're gonna

03 00:27:04

party, right? Well,

03 00:27:07

99% of the time, we're in bed by

03 00:27:09

930. So,

03 00:27:12

like, we've golfed

03 00:27:15

all day and, smoked, drank.

03 00:27:18

But come 930, I'm like, all right, boys, I'm gonna hit it. I'll see you in the

03 00:27:20

morning. Is that what it's like for you boys out there when

03 00:27:23

you're camping or what? Are you guys staying up a little later?

03 00:27:26

>> Speaker C: No. yeah, for sure, man. Like, so,

03 00:27:30

And I think a lot of hunters will relate to this.

03 00:27:33

when I was duck hunting, and I was so mad at the

03 00:27:36

ducks, and that's all we were doing back in the day, like,

03 00:27:39

when, and it's sort of an evolution of what that

03 00:27:42

looks like. The younger guys, the duck hunters, like,

03 00:27:45

when you're just, you're mad about the ducks. Like,

03 00:27:48

you're hunting mornings in

03 00:27:50

Arkansas, and they're like, there's nothing to

03 00:27:53

do all day. And the guys like, hey, it's time to drink beer.

03 00:27:56

Like, you get to a point in your life where that's

03 00:27:59

just not like you're like, I'm not going to drink beer all day, we got to

03 00:28:02

do something. And then you're like, oh, okay, we can

03 00:28:05

hunt. We can hit speckle bellies and snow geese in the

03 00:28:08

afternoon. So now you got ducks in the morning,

03 00:28:11

you forget the beer drinking, and you go

03 00:28:13

straight to the next hunt, which is the

03 00:28:16

specs or the snows. And then

03 00:28:19

the evening, you have two or three beers or whatever,

03 00:28:21

and you get tired, and you go to sleep.

03 00:28:24

Well, now, in deer hunting, when you go to deer camp, it's

03 00:28:27

like you get up so early, and you work so

03 00:28:30

hard, and you hunt, and then you try to

03 00:28:33

come back and take a nap. That's if you don't go

03 00:28:36

hang another set somewhere else or move because the deer

03 00:28:39

aren't moving where you want them to. And then. And then

03 00:28:42

you go to hunt that evening, you get back, and you're

03 00:28:45

like, man, I'll have a beer, and I'm going to bed. But, like, the

03 00:28:48

older you get, it's funny because you're like, you start thinking like, hey, did I bring my

03 00:28:51

CPAp machine? That's a funny thing,

03 00:28:53

man. Like, when I first got.

03 00:28:56

I got a CPAP machine. I'm just gonna say it, dude. Listen.

03 00:29:00

It is what it is. I'm 46 years old. I got

03 00:29:03

a CPAP machine. It is what? Like, my buddies were busting my

03 00:29:06

balls. You got a cPap machine, man? It's freaking

03 00:29:09

old now. My dude's like, hey, man, let's talk to him about the

03 00:29:12

CPAp machine. What's going on? Like,

03 00:29:15

so, like, three or four of my buddies now. I see. Because,

03 00:29:18

like, man, that's the real deal. We'll talk about that

03 00:29:20

later, man. That's some good rest right there.

03 00:29:24

But, yeah, things change. That's the long answer,

03 00:29:26

that as you get older, things change.

03 00:29:29

Deer camp, duck camp, turkey camp. It

03 00:29:32

evolves. You're not as, you're not as young

03 00:29:35

as you once were, and I'm.

03 00:29:37

>> RB: Completely fine with that. I'm happy to go to bed. 930,

maybe 10 00:29:40

00 watch 10:00 news, get up

at 06 00:29:42

00 a.m. have a cup of coffee, and then maybe a morning

at 06 00:29:45

cigar. I'm good with that. But there

at 06 00:29:48

are always those people that are out drinking till 02:00 a.m.

at 06 00:29:51

and they're, oh, you can't hang, dude. It's not that I can't hang.

at 06 00:29:54

I don't want to hang. I want to feel normal tomorrow.

at 06 00:29:57

>> Speaker C: Yeah, that's right.

at 06 00:29:58

>> Jonathan: That's.

at 06 00:29:58

>> Speaker C: That's right. Now, I'll say this, too.

at 06 00:30:01

y'all know halo waterfowl you know, duck

at 06 00:30:04

hunting. Like, that's, that's been my gig

at 06 00:30:07

for forever. that is a young man

at 06 00:30:09

sport. I mean, that's, that's intense. I mean, those

at 06 00:30:12

boys, those boys are, you know, your grand, you

at 06 00:30:15

know, your grandpa always said, I mean, you know, if you can be stupid,

at 06 00:30:18

you got to be tough. And, Doug hunt's one of those sports.

at 06 00:30:21

You're going to be stupid, you're going to be tough. Those boys will get out and carry

at 06 00:30:24

on and, you know, two or 03:00 in the morning and

at 06 00:30:27

go hang out and, you know, a dive bar and get

at 06 00:30:30

up in 04:00 and go walk into a duck

at 06 00:30:33

hole. You know, that's, that's, that's,

at 06 00:30:35

that's got to be tough to do that.

at 06 00:30:39

You know, I don't want no part of that.

at 06 00:30:42

I'm with you. I want the rest.

at 06 00:30:44

>> Jonathan: So, yeah, and I'm

at 06 00:30:47

on a different level than even pep. Like, I'm good to go to bed before

09 00:30:50

00. but, like, duck hunting, you got,

09 00:30:53

see, I've not really been one to eat, like, duck breast

09 00:30:56

as dinner. Like, I see it on menus sometimes, which, I know

09 00:30:59

it's a little, I think it's a little fattier or

09 00:31:02

maybe greasier. I don't know if that's right way to describe it,

09 00:31:05

but I mean, you're obviously eating the

09 00:31:08

kills, right?

09 00:31:09

>> Speaker C: Oh, yeah. We really, we don't ever shoot

09 00:31:12

anything. We don't either. Either we

09 00:31:15

eat or we give it to somebody or we

09 00:31:18

give it to the homeless 100%.

09 00:31:20

>> Jonathan: So what's your favorite, what

09 00:31:23

is your favorite meat of your kill? Is it, is it venison or do you like

09 00:31:26

duck or.

09 00:31:28

>> Speaker C: Man, this is a toss up between duck and

09 00:31:31

elk. duck. Duck is

09 00:31:34

amazing. You know, where I screwed up as a young man, I

09 00:31:37

would try to cook it like I was

09 00:31:39

cooking chicken, and then I realized you're

09 00:31:42

supposed to cook duck like you're cooking steak.

09 00:31:45

And, man, I was so far

09 00:31:48

wrong, man. I mean, like, literally, it's

09 00:31:51

amazing. You cook that stuff like steak. Duck is the

09 00:31:54

real deal. I mean, I'm telling you, you know, it's good.

09 00:31:57

I mean, I love that. And then elkhorndeh

09 00:32:00

elk is in the cow family. It's not in the venison

09 00:32:03

family. It's not deer. And, you know, elk is

09 00:32:06

one of the most, sought after meats. Like, all the

09 00:32:09

help, you know, whether it's mountain ops or first form.

09 00:32:12

Yeah, I'm using some

09 00:32:14

groups that are very high in

09 00:32:17

fitness, good companies, good quality folks,

09 00:32:20

those guys love elk meat, and there's a reason it's the most

09 00:32:23

lean, good meat on the planet, in my

09 00:32:26

opinion. And I think there's a lot of health

09 00:32:28

nuts or health consciences, people or

09 00:32:31

folks that are worried about taking care of themselves, which we all

09 00:32:34

should be. At least I should be more, That's a

09 00:32:37

good meat, man. Elk is a real deal.

09 00:32:40

>> RB: So, I

09 00:32:43

love bison and elk.

09 00:32:46

just ground bison. Ground elk

09 00:32:49

instead of your normal cow meat. but,

09 00:32:52

dude, I'll just. I had it the other night. I had

09 00:32:54

elk with mushrooms,

09 00:32:57

onions, and then I just sprinkled a little bit of cheese on

09 00:33:00

there. And I just eat that.

09 00:33:02

it is so lean elk,

09 00:33:06

the latest red meat you can eat.

09 00:33:10

>> Speaker C: You're spot on, man. I mean, if people are going nuts

09 00:33:13

over it.

09 00:33:15

>> RB: An elk strip steak. Oh.

09 00:33:18

>> Speaker C: Oh, man. Tenderloin, back strap, man,

09 00:33:21

listen, you. If you could sell that. I mean,

09 00:33:24

that people lined up here to Chicago.

09 00:33:29

>> Jonathan: I had my first elk. I don't know what it was.

09 00:33:32

If it was elk, what cut it was.

09 00:33:35

>> RB: You had a strip sake?

09 00:33:37

>> Jonathan: No, no. This. The first time I had elk was in Jackson,

09 00:33:39

Wyoming, at a little restaurant. And it was.

09 00:33:43

I forget the type of what it was. It was a

09 00:33:45

nice freaking chuck of

09 00:33:48

elk. It was on the bone. It was bone in something. Not bone in, but

09 00:33:51

bone in. it was dynamite. So, yeah,

09 00:33:54

it's, it's good stuff. And trying that stuff,

09 00:33:56

you know, at the end of the day, if you cook it up good, you don't

09 00:33:59

really. It doesn't taste gamey, I guess, is what I'm

09 00:34:02

trying to say.

09 00:34:03

>> Speaker C: No, no. Those guys know how to cook

09 00:34:05

it. There's secrets, to

09 00:34:08

everything. You just soak a lot of that stuff in,

09 00:34:11

cold water with some salt in it overnight in the refrigerator.

09 00:34:14

Draws that blood out. It takes that gamey taste

09 00:34:16

out. I mean, man, it doesn't take

09 00:34:19

much for elk to taste really good. It really

09 00:34:22

doesn't. I love it, man.

09 00:34:24

>> Jonathan: You look like a guy that knows his way around a kitchen and a

09 00:34:26

smoker.

09 00:34:29

>> Speaker C: It's a nice way to call me fat.

09 00:34:31

>> Jonathan: No, no. Lean. Lean, Greg.

09 00:34:34

>> Speaker C: Lean. No, I know. I know. I'm kidding. No, thanks,

09 00:34:37

man. I'll tell you, I will say this. I

09 00:34:40

decided, you know, I think my wife

09 00:34:42

wishes I was a little better

09 00:34:46

in the kitchen, but

09 00:34:48

she's giving me the accolades and props I

09 00:34:51

need on the grill, but. The grill. But

09 00:34:54

I gotta get better at the smoking, man. I hadn't done the.

09 00:34:57

I haven't done as much with the pellets and the

09 00:34:59

smokers, as you would think. Like, I'm

09 00:35:02

just like, I've been old school, like, for so long. I would

09 00:35:05

get my, like, weber grill and go out there

09 00:35:08

and get charcoal and, like, put it out there because I'm like a. Like

09 00:35:11

a freak for, like, just a good charcoal

09 00:35:13

hamburger steak. And, you know, I've got

09 00:35:16

this. My kids and my wife bought me this

09 00:35:19

beautiful lever gas

09 00:35:22

grill. And listen, for

09 00:35:24

speed. you can't beat it. But, man, I'm still,

09 00:35:27

like a. I still love charcoal, man. I'm old

09 00:35:30

school, man. I guess that's just growing up poor. I don't

09 00:35:33

know. We didn't ever admit, but I do love it. It's good.

09 00:35:36

>> Jonathan: Well, I like smoking. I have a smoker. I like grilling.

09 00:35:39

I grill a lot. And I, had a guy over the house a couple weeks ago

09 00:35:41

fixing a fireplace, and we started

09 00:35:44

talking about grills. And I didn't know he was a grill guru.

09 00:35:47

And now this cat was standing in my living

09 00:35:50

room talking to me now about grills because I mentioned

09 00:35:53

to him that I was trying to get a new grill. I've been researching

09 00:35:56

grills, and he starts going

09 00:35:59

through every brand, you name it, whether it's

09 00:36:01

Weber or Napoleon or

09 00:36:04

coyote or jumping over

09 00:36:07

to the green egg versus the primo

09 00:36:09

and this and that, and I'm like, but

09 00:36:12

just get my fireplace working, all right? Because that's really.

09 00:36:16

But it's interesting, I think that especially

09 00:36:19

in this season, we're coming into, man, nothing beats the smell of a

09 00:36:22

smoker going. But I need to hurt

09 00:36:25

my skills a little bit.

09 00:36:26

>> Speaker C: Yeah, me and you both. Me and you both.

09 00:36:28

I got. I got a couple buddies who, like, I told him, I was like, y'all,

09 00:36:31

y'all gotta hook your boy up and look, you know, come on over.

09 00:36:34

Let me show you. I just gotta make m time to do it, you know? I'm bad

09 00:36:37

about, my family make fun of me because I'm bad

09 00:36:40

about burning a fire, you know?

09 00:36:43

You know, three quarters of the year, like, it could be

09 00:36:46

90 degrees outside the summer. I got a fire. Go. I turned the

09 00:36:49

air down. We're freezing in the house. I love burning a fire in the

09 00:36:52

house, dude.

09 00:36:53

>> Jonathan: Yeah, my wife's awesome.

09 00:36:55

>> RB: My wife yells at me all the time. Tells me I'm wasting the wood outside

09 00:36:58

because I'll throw a few logs on a fire

09 00:37:00

outside, and I'll walk away and I'll sit on the back patio and smoke a cigar.

09 00:37:03

And she's like, what was the point of that over there. And I said,

09 00:37:06

I just. I just like the smell.

09 00:37:09

>> Speaker C: I, like to know it's burning.

09 00:37:11

>> RB: I just like the smell. I don't care. Like, I know it's a hundred

09 00:37:14

degrees outside. What is it? That's why I'm sitting over here.

09 00:37:17

But I like the smoke coming to me and smelling that. It's

09 00:37:20

just. It's incredible.

09 00:37:22

>> Speaker C: It is just that, hey, I've had the same

09 00:37:25

thing. Hey, man, that's that woods growing while we sleep. We

09 00:37:28

cut it all down, burn it tomorrow to grow back next week. I

09 00:37:31

love it. I'm with you, man. I'll burn something. I have,

09 00:37:34

ah, I have been said that I was a

09 00:37:36

pyromaniac, which I don't get that. I do like fire and

09 00:37:39

I do like burning stuff. But I love a fire,

09 00:37:42

man. I will burn it every day if I'm home.

09 00:37:45

>> RB: I'm with you, man. I am with you.

09 00:37:47

>> Jonathan: Cozy.

09 00:37:48

>> RB: And again, it's still like there's a good fire.

09 00:37:51

Roll in it and I'll throw another log on. For what reason? I don't

09 00:37:53

know. Because I want the flames higher. I don't know.

09 00:37:56

>> Speaker C: No, I'm the same way. I just want to see a

09 00:37:59

fire. I mean, it's like a good Saturday

09 00:38:03

college, football or Sunday NFL Sunday.

09 00:38:06

I may be working around the house, but if the game's on,

09 00:38:08

mentally, I'm good. Same with the fire. Just have

09 00:38:11

the fire rolling. I could be working, but I want to walk by and

09 00:38:14

I want to smell it. I get it. I love you.

09 00:38:17

>> RB: So you talk about Saturdays and maybe

09 00:38:20

I'm, assuming because of all our other

09 00:38:23

buddies are from Georgia. They're Georgia Bulldog fans.

09 00:38:25

Is that.

09 00:38:26

>> Speaker C: Oh, yeah.

09 00:38:29

>> Speaker C: Made y'all throw up a little bit.

09 00:38:30

>> Jonathan: No, it's a dog. That's a good team to be your

09 00:38:33

team. I mean, no complaints there.

09 00:38:36

>> RB: I like the Marshall thundering herd, so there you go.

09 00:38:39

>> Jonathan: Yeah, they're actually.

09 00:38:42

Well, we won't get into that, but.

09 00:38:44

>> Speaker C: Oh, we just to butt in there, we

09 00:38:47

did just do and received them in the mail

09 00:38:50

today. We got an Auburn halo hat, Alabama

09 00:38:53

halo hat, and the Georgia. And those are our three best

09 00:38:56

sellers. So, we're launching those this week

09 00:38:59

on the sort of sec thing.

09 00:39:01

So we sell a ton of those hats. So, yeah, for

09 00:39:04

whatever reason, those are the three best sellers. So,

09 00:39:09

people like. Yeah, I like your hat, man.

09 00:39:11

No, my boys at 24/7 hunt, those are

09 00:39:14

good friends of ours. Good folks.

09 00:39:16

>> RB: Well, so as I mentioned,

09 00:39:19

before, not a hunter. I just like the duck.

09 00:39:23

>> Speaker C: Yeah.

09 00:39:24

>> RB: it's a good looking duck, and an orange is my favorite color. And here

09 00:39:27

we are.

09 00:39:30

>> Speaker C: Looks good on you.

09 00:39:31

>> Jonathan: So, Greg, you played a little bit of golf today,

09 00:39:35

or potentially today. So,

09 00:39:38

you know, we got to talk a little bit about golf because

09 00:39:40

obviously you do golf, but maybe

09 00:39:43

you don't want to golf like you hunt. I don't know. So,

09 00:39:46

you know, what's it like chasing birdies with you?

09 00:39:50

>> Speaker C: I will. I'm not going to make the senior tour.

09 00:39:53

I'll start by saying that, hey, neither.

09 00:39:55

>> Jonathan: Us, neither are we.

09 00:39:58

>> Speaker C: I will say I am. You know,

09 00:40:01

I really, you know, what do they say? Drive. Ah.

09 00:40:04

For show, putt for doe.

09 00:40:07

It's crazy how that changes for me. Like, one day

09 00:40:10

I could just be lights out, and the

09 00:40:12

next day I'm terrible on the drive.

09 00:40:16

The day that you saw me, terrible on the

09 00:40:18

drive was decent at, the putting

09 00:40:21

before, believe it or not, as weird as that sounds.

09 00:40:24

And then today I was, not that good

09 00:40:27

on the drive or the putt, but I was working my

09 00:40:30

irons. Like, it was about, like, I hit my five

09 00:40:32

iron. Like, I was hitting my driver. Like, I've never

09 00:40:35

hit a five iron good in my life. And I hit

09 00:40:38

like ten shots a day. That

09 00:40:41

blew my mind. But now I couldn't, do

09 00:40:44

anything on my 60 degree or my 56 degree. Like,

09 00:40:47

it was horrible. My buddy was like, are you okay? I was like,

09 00:40:50

I think so.

09 00:40:52

>> RB: It was just, I mean, it just

09 00:40:54

sucks.

09 00:40:55

>> Speaker C: I was just, hey, I want to be consistent. That's, you know, that's

09 00:40:58

the one thing in life that I would like to say about. Put, on my

09 00:41:01

grace on. He was

09 00:41:03

consistent.

09 00:41:04

>> RB: Yeah.

09 00:41:05

>> Speaker C: Consistently crazy, stupid, wild, funny,

09 00:41:08

whatever in a passionate. But

09 00:41:10

golf. Mmm m it's not gonna be on there.

09 00:41:14

It's not gonna be on there.

09 00:41:15

>> RB: Well, you're probably consistent with duck

09 00:41:18

hunting or whatever, so, I mean, you give

09 00:41:21

some give and take, right?

09 00:41:22

>> Speaker C: That's right. That's right.

09 00:41:24

>> Jonathan: But you hit those five irons like that, probably one. You probably want to play

09 00:41:27

golf tomorrow now.

09 00:41:28

>> Speaker C: I kind of do. I'm not gonna lie, you're right. I mean, that is

09 00:41:31

the one thing. You just nailed it right

09 00:41:34

there. With golf, like, you can play

09 00:41:37

ten days back. You have one and you want to play for

09 00:41:39

ten more days.

09 00:41:40

>> Speaker C: You just like, just do it. Golf is so

09 00:41:43

addictive when you have a good stroke.

09 00:41:46

Like today, me and my buddy, you know, we had a

09 00:41:49

mulligan or whatever, a piece. For whatever reason. It was

09 00:41:52

a weird tournament. You had mulligans so, like, like, you

09 00:41:54

hit a good shot, and, you know, he was like, okay,

09 00:41:58

you want it? We, you know, whatever. you know, and we had a

09 00:42:00

guy short, so we got to hit his other shot. And

09 00:42:03

I was like, well, I hit his other shot. I just hit a good one. And he was like,

09 00:42:06

yeah, you should hit it. You hit a good one and then you shank it, and you're like, oh,

09 00:42:09

my God, I should have let him hit it because it's so

09 00:42:12

mental. I mean, golf is so mental. Like, I'm,

09 00:42:15

not telling you. I'm preaching the choir, but you get up to that ball,

09 00:42:18

you know, if I can figure out a way for nothing to

09 00:42:21

go through my mind, I'm going to crush it. As soon

09 00:42:24

as I start thinking I'm going to do it like this,

09 00:42:27

I'm going, it's over.

09 00:42:29

>> Jonathan: Yeah, no, it's, it's.

09 00:42:32

And, you know, part of the reason why we wanted to have you on

09 00:42:35

here, honestly, we know you love golf, play

09 00:42:38

golf and whatnot, and. But most of our guests,

09 00:42:40

they're doing something else in life. They just all have

09 00:42:43

the passion for golf, just like you kind of do.

09 00:42:46

But at the end of the day, there is some

09 00:42:48

crossover with respect to your

09 00:42:51

passion with hunting and our passion, which is golf,

09 00:42:54

because at the end of the day, as we mentioned earlier, it's about who you

09 00:42:57

surround yourself with for that day, for that trip, whatever it

09 00:43:00

is, you know, having the adrenaline

09 00:43:03

rush that you have. Believe me, I can understand

09 00:43:06

being in the stand and seeing a nice twelve point walk by, and you're

09 00:43:09

going like, But it's the same feeling over a six footer that you're like,

09 00:43:12

I gotta fucking make this putt. I gotta make it. I gotta make it. You know what I mean?

09 00:43:15

So, like, yeah, absolutely. And the beauty aspect

09 00:43:17

of it, hear me out on that. You know, you go to these different

09 00:43:20

places and hunt, you know, and you, whether

09 00:43:23

they're new places or places you're fond of, you like to go back. Same thing

09 00:43:26

with golf, right? Like, you get outside, you're in nature, which

09 00:43:29

is incredible. And you get to see different places,

09 00:43:32

different tracks. And at the end of the day, you're doing

09 00:43:35

the same thing whether you're at Pinehurst or you're playing

09 00:43:38

at Oakmont. But it's just different settings. And that's

09 00:43:41

kind of synonymous with hunting in that regard, too. So

09 00:43:43

there's a lot of crossovers there. I think that kind of, there really

09 00:43:46

is.

09 00:43:47

>> Speaker C: That's a good point. I didn't really? Until you said

09 00:43:50

that, did I really, relate the two? But, man,

09 00:43:53

there are quite a few places that I still want

09 00:43:56

to hunt. You know, people ask me all the time, are you going to go on

09 00:43:59

a. Do you want to go to Argentina and going to,

09 00:44:02

you know, Guelph as a whatever, or do you want to

09 00:44:05

go to Africa? And I'm like, man, there's so many places

09 00:44:07

in, you know, North America that I still want to go that I

09 00:44:10

haven't seen. I want to do that. And I've never been to

09 00:44:12

Sawgrass. You know, I've been to Augusta

09 00:44:15

nationals.

09 00:44:16

I've been to East Lake. But there's so many other

09 00:44:19

places, in the. Just, you know,

09 00:44:21

northern part, of the country, or

09 00:44:24

just out west. I've never been to some of these great golf

09 00:44:27

courses. I just want to go check them out. So. Yeah, I'm with you,

09 00:44:30

man. There. There is some real crossover. You're right.

09 00:44:33

>> RB: I'm heading down your way here in about a week and a half,

09 00:44:36

with, Tyler reeve and Cole taylor going down

09 00:44:39

to play Sage valley for two days, so.

09 00:44:41

>> Speaker C: Oh, no kidding. Those are good dudes right there, and that's

09 00:44:44

going to be a heck of a play.

09 00:44:45

>> RB: Yeah, we're going to. We're going to have a high old time.

09 00:44:48

and I'm really excited for that one. But that's the thing, like, we're talking about

09 00:44:51

right now is, like, you're excited for the next golf course

09 00:44:54

or we are. I should say you're excited for the next hunt and

09 00:44:57

location and all that, or your next big

09 00:45:00

kill. so there is, like he said, a lot of crossover,

09 00:45:03

and it's cool.

09 00:45:04

>> Speaker C: Yeah, it really is. I mean, there's a lot of

09 00:45:06

connectivity in this. I mean, when you sit here

09 00:45:09

and think about it, when you just said that, I just said, wow,

09 00:45:12

man, I want to do this, this, this and this, because, I mean,

09 00:45:15

like, everybody wants to go, you know, abroad to

09 00:45:18

go check out some golf courses, but, man, there's so

09 00:45:21

many here that I want to check out before I even get to

09 00:45:24

that phase, if I live long enough, you know? But there's. There's that

09 00:45:27

many that I want to go play, or even if I don't play,

09 00:45:30

I want to go see, watch the tour, do it, you

09 00:45:33

know? M so I'm with you. Tell Tyler, man,

09 00:45:36

watch out. That joker may pack a fishing

09 00:45:38

pole on you and go catch some fish while y'all over there hitting the

09 00:45:41

golf ball. He's. He's good at both.

09 00:45:44

>> RB: He's good he's hilarious.

09 00:45:45

>> Jonathan: He is a good dude.

09 00:45:46

>> RB: He's got a. He's got a decent voice on him, so I'll give him

09 00:45:49

that.

09 00:45:50

>> Speaker C: Yeah, he does, man. He's. He's a real deal.

09 00:45:54

>> Jonathan: Yeah. No, he is. All those boys, everyone

09 00:45:57

we met, you know. Yeah. Just good. Good

09 00:45:59

people, man. Good people. And that's what. That's what we need more of

09 00:46:02

in the world, bottom line.

09 00:46:04

>> Speaker C: Yeah, no doubt. And I'll tell you, I was a blue otter. Blue

09 00:46:07

otter is a good. A good group of folks

09 00:46:10

who bring a bunch of good people together. That blue

09 00:46:13

otter golf tournament, you know, it's an honor to be there every

09 00:46:16

year. And, you know, I wouldn't have met you guys if I wouldn't have been

09 00:46:18

there.

09 00:46:19

>> RB: Exactly.

09 00:46:19

>> Speaker C: I thank the lord every day for good relationships like

09 00:46:22

this. And blue otter, man, Bradley

09 00:46:25

and all the boys over there. Just good,

09 00:46:27

Megan. All those folks are awesome.

09 00:46:30

>> RB: Well, we'll have to. We'll have to keep an eye on the

09 00:46:32

schedule. Next, time Riley's in Pittsburgh, you

09 00:46:35

mosey on up this way. we'll take you.

09 00:46:38

We'll do a little fishing, and then we'll take you to some

09 00:46:41

good golf courses. We got a. We got a bunch here in the backyard,

09 00:46:44

and we'll go smoke a cigar.

09 00:46:48

>> Speaker C: Baby. I'll be there.

09 00:46:49

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

09 00:46:50

>> Speaker C: I'll call you bluff.

09 00:46:51

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

09 00:46:53

>> RB: We'll get it taken care of.

09 00:46:54

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Bring your wife up. Our resort that we're, associated

09 00:46:57

with. She would. Absolutely. Your wife would. Well,

09 00:47:00

your whole family would go goo. Goo gaga

09 00:47:03

over it. It's incredible. So, man, I'd love to

09 00:47:06

do.

09 00:47:06

>> Speaker C: I've got. That's one thing that my kids and my family

09 00:47:09

do. They love all traveling together.

09 00:47:12

And I. One day, we're gonna find an

09 00:47:15

amazing place to hunt and an amazing place

09 00:47:18

to golf. Place where you bring your wife,

09 00:47:21

kids, and everybody be. That's a real deal.

09 00:47:24

That's like a. It's like a epic goal.

09 00:47:27

>> Jonathan: That would be. That'd be a great. Yeah.

09 00:47:30

Well, Greg, man, it was awesome having you on here.

09 00:47:33

so we appreciate your time.

09 00:47:34

And before we head off, we're going to hit up the last

09 00:47:37

segment of the show called the tap in segment, presented

09 00:47:40

by betonardi golf. Check them out

09 00:47:42

online@bettenardi.com. dot Jonathan's going to

09 00:47:45

ask you a few questions that demand your quick

09 00:47:48

response. And here he goes.

09 00:47:50

>> Speaker C: All right, biggest kill,

09 00:47:53

163 and a half inch whitetail.

09 00:47:56

>> Jonathan: Damn.

09 00:47:57

>> RB: Jesus. I wasn't expecting that one.

09 00:48:00

>> Speaker C: I wasn't either.

09 00:48:02

>> RB: Dream hunt.

09 00:48:06

>> Jonathan: Absolute.

09 00:48:07

>> Speaker C: ilk with a bow in Utah.

09 00:48:10

>> RB: That sounds beautiful. I'll come out, come

09 00:48:12

traipse around with you. I won't do anything.

09 00:48:14

>> Jonathan: But he doesn't.

09 00:48:15

>> Speaker C: Y'all bring it all.

09 00:48:16

>> Jonathan: That's a dream hunt of his. Like, he's not okay,

09 00:48:20

sure.

09 00:48:21

>> Speaker C: listen, y'all. Y'all badass. Let's go.

09 00:48:23

>> RB: This freaking guy's got a cigar. Can you put it out, bud?

09 00:48:27

dream, foursome, dead or alive.

09 00:48:30

>> Speaker C: Oh, wow.

09 00:48:34

Wow. I would say I'm definitely. I mean, you gotta bring

09 00:48:37

Jesus to the party. I mean, that's my dude. you know, I would

09 00:48:40

say, Chris Farley. and then

09 00:48:43

I would say will Ferrell. Like, the four of

09 00:48:46

us would be ridiculous. I'm going to count myself as that

09 00:48:48

foursome.

09 00:48:49

>> RB: That would be a, pretty epic.

09 00:48:50

>> Speaker C: Foursome if you can't

09 00:48:53

tell my personality. I love laughing, having

09 00:48:56

a good time. I'm

09 00:48:59

happy just to wake up every day.

09 00:49:01

>> Jonathan: I love it, Greg.

09 00:49:02

>> RB: And the last question, Greg, what are you chasing?

09 00:49:06

>> Speaker C: I'm chasing birds. Birdies.

09 00:49:09

Ducks, deer, turkeys. Hell,

09 00:49:12

I may, I may go rope a donkey.

09 00:49:17

>> RB: That's a good one right there. That's the first time anybody sitting

09 00:49:20

there.

09 00:49:22

>> Jonathan: That's awesome, man.

09 00:49:25

>> Speaker C: Thank you all for having me on, man. Y'all are a trip.

09 00:49:28

This is always fun. And just hanging out with you guys

09 00:49:31

of the day was awesome. And, I've been on a few

09 00:49:34

podcasts, but, in my day, of course, but,

09 00:49:37

y'all are just, cream of the crop good dudes, down to

09 00:49:40

earth and salt of the earth. And I appreciate your time

09 00:49:42

and appreciate your friendship.

09 00:49:44

>> Jonathan: Well, likewise, man. We really appreciate you coming on here. This

09 00:49:47

was. This was a great time, man. So,

09 00:49:50

appreciate it.

09 00:49:56

>> RB: Enjoyable.

09 00:49:58

Different episode with our

09 00:50:01

dude Greg camp, which, funny enough, he's not a long drive

09 00:50:03

hitter. I found that out the

09 00:50:06

hard way at old Hickory. but it was a blast talking to him and

09 00:50:09

seeing, you know, his passion for. For hunting

09 00:50:12

and see his relationship with Riley

09 00:50:15

Green. That's all. That's awesome.

09 00:50:18

>> Jonathan: Yeah, just a good, good dude, man. You could just tell family

09 00:50:21

oriented, loves the outdoor loves life.

09 00:50:23

And that's what we're all about here on chase and birdie's real

09 00:50:26

talk. So, Greg, thanks for coming on. It was awesome.

09 00:50:29

And I stand corrected, because I said, you

09 00:50:32

know, this was our first time having a hunter or something like that, to the effect

09 00:50:35

of that. But I was wrong. I forgot about

09 00:50:37

Willie Robertson early on. So listeners out

09 00:50:40

there who may have just started listening to Jason,

09 00:50:43

birdies or maybe.

09 00:50:46

Yeah. You go back into the archives. You will see it

09 00:50:49

episode back in the day of me and Pep

09 00:50:52

with Willie Robertson. And so Greg makes

09 00:50:55

two. But this was good. This was good.

09 00:50:58

>> RB: The pooch is cute, huh? Huh?

09 00:51:00

>> Jonathan: Adorable.

09 00:51:00

>> RB: Birdie, I like.

09 00:51:02

>> Jonathan: Yeah, I do, too.

09 00:51:04

>> RB: but with that, you know, us going on the duck hunt and everything, I

09 00:51:07

need to fine tune my shooting. I'm gonna take

09 00:51:10

my butt up to Nemicolon,

09 00:51:13

practice some, I guess, shooting

09 00:51:15

there, and, try to make it

09 00:51:18

as real as it gets with the ducks. So

09 00:51:21

make sure you go on over to nemicolon.com,

09 00:51:25

book your stay. Take, the family.

09 00:51:28

Go by yourself, whatever you want to do. There's something

09 00:51:30

for you to do there. The golf courses are.

09 00:51:34

It's amazing right now. The trees are as good as it

09 00:51:37

gets. Right now up there. Mystic M Rock is ripping

09 00:51:40

on all cylinders, shepherd's rocks bouncing back

09 00:51:43

after the aeration. So it's

09 00:51:46

exciting. At Nema Colon. Go to

09 00:51:48

nemecolan.com. you will not be

09 00:51:50

disappointed.

09 00:51:51

>> Jonathan: You will not be disappointed. Because you know what?

09 00:51:54

Last weekend, pep, I had a little celebration on

09 00:51:57

Saturday. Yeah. Which I don't like telling people it was my

09 00:51:59

birthday, but it was. It was my birthday. So I'm another year

09 00:52:02

older, but I'm like, what am I gonna do today?

09 00:52:05

You know? What can we do? So I told ash, I said, you know what?

09 00:52:08

Let's roll up there, grab a little lunch. And by

09 00:52:11

accident, I put my clubs in the car, by

09 00:52:14

accident. And actually, I put my shoes in the car, too, by

09 00:52:17

accident, in case I got out. And, we went

09 00:52:20

out at 03:00 not a soul out

09 00:52:22

there. The weather was great. Played 18

09 00:52:25

holes. She watched around. She played

09 00:52:28

videographer. We listened to music. And I

09 00:52:30

realized at that moment in time, I was like, man,

09 00:52:33

this place is extremely

09 00:52:36

special, and it's right here for us. But

09 00:52:39

for people listening across the country. Dude, you guys are

09 00:52:42

missing out.

09 00:52:42

>> RB: Well, we're happy to have you there.

09 00:52:44

>> Jonathan: It's beautiful. So happy to be there.

09 00:52:46

>> Jonathan: yeah, always. So, look for actually get to play

09 00:52:49

with you potentially tomorrow.

09 00:52:51

>> RB: Yeah, tomorrow. If you, don't cancel, like, the last one.

09 00:52:54

But that's all good.

09 00:52:55

>> Jonathan: The frost delay got me, bud. We'll blame it on that.

09 00:52:57

>> RB: The frost delay got a lot of people. So, make sure you go over

09 00:53:00

to chasing birdies on instagram.

09 00:53:03

Chasing birdies. Any old episodes?

09 00:53:06

Chasing birdies.com has everyone we've

09 00:53:09

interviewed, including the Willie Robertson, which

09 00:53:13

we will say it was early on. Don't know

09 00:53:15

how good. We were, with that interview, so maybe we

09 00:53:18

gotta get him back on and chat a little bit after our duck

09 00:53:21

hunt.

09 00:53:22

>> Jonathan: Let's do it, man. And, you guys out there tuning in

09 00:53:24

today, like I said earlier on, we do appreciate your

09 00:53:27

support. We hope you enjoyed the episode. And

09 00:53:30

it's hard to believe that the month of October is zipping on

09 00:53:33

through. But you enjoy your,

09 00:53:36

I guess, second to last weekend of, clown. Yeah, I guess it is

09 00:53:39

the last weekend of October coming up here.

09 00:53:41

>> RB: And happy Halloween to everybody out there.

09 00:53:43

>> Jonathan: Halloweeny.

09 00:53:44

>> RB: Make sure you check that candy some. There's some creeps out there.

09 00:53:47

>> Jonathan: And if you're still watching golf, the Zozo championships kicking

09 00:53:49

off today at accordia Golf country

09 00:53:52

club, Narasino country club, whatever the hell that is.

09 00:53:55

Never heard of it. And then you got a good little game tonight.

09 00:53:58

Minnesota and the Rams on Thursday night Football. But.

09 00:54:01

>> RB: So get it going.

09 00:54:02

>> Jonathan: And,

09 00:54:03

>> Speaker C: Yeah.

09 00:54:03

>> Jonathan: And pit. Oh, my God. All right, y'all,

09 00:54:06

we appreciate it very much. Thank you to Allie,

09 00:54:09

Ivo, Emily, for putting this thing together.

09 00:54:11

Jacqueline de Paterio, Rachel London, for all y'all's

09 00:54:14

help. And we will catch y'all in two.

09 00:54:17

>> RB: Chase them.
