Would you like to
Speaker:be more productive?
Speaker:I reckon I'm
Speaker:pretty productive.
Speaker:today I thought I'd take
Speaker:you behind the scenes and
Speaker:show you what I use to
Speaker:help me be productive.
Speaker:Now, what I have realized
Speaker:is that my 50 percent is
Speaker:probably everyone else's 80%.
Speaker:So I know that sometimes I
Speaker:have a lot of energy and a
Speaker:lot of capacity to do things.
Speaker:I also have some days
Speaker:where I'm not motivated.
Speaker:Shock horror.
Speaker:I know this will
Speaker:surprise some of you.
Speaker:And there was a time a few
Speaker:years ago in my business
Speaker:when I was feeling like
Speaker:was doing all the things,
Speaker:you know, you're doing all
Speaker:the things, you're putting
Speaker:content out, you're having
Speaker:conversations, you're doing
Speaker:all the things and nothing
Speaker:was getting me traction.
Speaker:And I was like, this sucks.
Speaker:And I was not motivated.
Speaker:And I thought to myself,
Speaker:I just don't have the
Speaker:energy to keep going.
Speaker:I feel like I'm banging my
Speaker:head against a brick wall.
Speaker:Who's with me, right?
Speaker:You've had those
Speaker:moments in business.
Speaker:I'm sure of it.
Speaker:And one of the things that
Speaker:I, I realized was that I
Speaker:just didn't have the energy.
Speaker:I didn't have the energy
Speaker:to stay motivated and
Speaker:do what I needed to do.
Speaker:So luckily I looked.
Speaker:At all those things in tandem.
Speaker:I went, what is
Speaker:going on, Emma?
Speaker:And so I decided to have
Speaker:a meeting with myself
Speaker:and figure out actually
Speaker:what was going on.
Speaker:I decided to take my own
Speaker:advice and I listed all the
Speaker:things that gave me joy.
Speaker:And I listed all the things
Speaker:that didn't give me joy.
Speaker:I had to escape the house
Speaker:because I couldn't do it
Speaker:in the, it couldn't do the
Speaker:thinking in the same four
Speaker:walls in which I was working.
Speaker:And so I took myself off.
Speaker:I listed those things.
Speaker:I also looked at the things
Speaker:that I needed to keep doing
Speaker:because that was me, the
Speaker:things that I needed to stop
Speaker:doing because they were,
Speaker:pulling from my soul and the
Speaker:things that I needed to start
Speaker:doing that would help because
Speaker:I couldn't do the same thing
Speaker:and expect a different result.
Speaker:I had to do
Speaker:something different.
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:And so today is really
Speaker:around, what are those things?
Speaker:What are those
Speaker:things that I did?
Speaker:And they are both
Speaker:physical and emotional.
Speaker:And also there's some
Speaker:things that might surprise
Speaker:you during our little
Speaker:conversation today.
Speaker:Now, there's a little
Speaker:internal compass.
Speaker:or thermometer that I have.
Speaker:And when I start to feel
Speaker:resentment float up, when I
Speaker:start to feel myself lacking
Speaker:gratitude, when I start to
Speaker:listen to myself whinging
Speaker:out loud to no one normally,
Speaker:when I start to feel those
Speaker:things, I know it's time
Speaker:to a step back and work on
Speaker:that process all over again.
Speaker:Do you know when it's coming?
Speaker:I think if you can figure
Speaker:out when it's coming, it's
Speaker:like when you have a migraine
Speaker:coming, sometimes it starts
Speaker:as a little headache, but
Speaker:you know, actually this
Speaker:one's stronger in the eyes.
Speaker:So if I don't stop now
Speaker:and catch it, it's going
Speaker:to turn into a migraine.
Speaker:So this is what, You need
Speaker:to do, you need to figure
Speaker:out what are the warning
Speaker:signs that I need to just
Speaker:take a step back and do
Speaker:some bits and pieces.
Speaker:So, as I said, I've got a
Speaker:couple of physical things
Speaker:that I do and a couple
Speaker:of emotional things that
Speaker:help me stay productive.
Speaker:Once I got out of that, funk,
Speaker:I was able to put some things
Speaker:in place that have really
Speaker:helped me in good stead.
Speaker:And some of the things I
Speaker:already did, but I'd let
Speaker:drop off the radar as we
Speaker:do, we're all busy and
Speaker:some things I needed to
Speaker:kind of start from scratch.
Speaker:One of the things I did was
Speaker:put Block out time in my diary
Speaker:and color code everything.
Speaker:another coach by the name of
Speaker:Michelle Broadbent has this
Speaker:beautiful template called
Speaker:the effective, I think it's
Speaker:called the effective week.
Speaker:And it helps you work out
Speaker:your priority, how many
Speaker:hours you've got and color
Speaker:code those hours into
Speaker:different bits and pieces.
Speaker:So I've got CEO time.
Speaker:I've got admin time.
Speaker:I only have one hour admin
Speaker:time because I hate admin.
Speaker:I've got delivery time.
Speaker:I've got relationship time.
Speaker:Those two things
Speaker:are big for me.
Speaker:And so now I, at a glance,
Speaker:I can look at my diary
Speaker:and I can see, Oh, I've
Speaker:got all of that on.
Speaker:And then I go overlay it
Speaker:with how much energy do I
Speaker:need to bring to that day?
Speaker:If I need to bring a lot
Speaker:of energy to that day,
Speaker:or if do I have to have
Speaker:more breaks because I'm
Speaker:doing more delivery.
Speaker:And when I do delivery
Speaker:of, One on one coaching.
Speaker:Sometimes those conversations
Speaker:are really heavy.
Speaker:So I need to have a
Speaker:little break in between
Speaker:to manage my own energy.
Speaker:So blocking out my time has
Speaker:been an absolute game changer.
Speaker:Two, I use the
Speaker:Pomodoro technique.
Speaker:This is not new.
Speaker:Everyone's heard me bang on
Speaker:about it, but it's a Pomodoro.
Speaker:It's, I've got a tomato timer.
Speaker:Cause that's the telling
Speaker:whether tomato is Pomodoro,
Speaker:pretty much not sounding
Speaker:like that Pomodoro or
Speaker:something like that.
Speaker:Anyway, you set
Speaker:it for 25 minutes.
Speaker:You do your piece of work,
Speaker:just one piece of work, and
Speaker:then you have a five minute
Speaker:break, and then you erase it.
Speaker:Game changer for me.
Speaker:I love the Pomodoro.
Speaker:Number three, I also use Tide.
Speaker:So there's an app on my phone.
Speaker:Uh, I go to sleep
Speaker:with it because it's
Speaker:water, but it also has
Speaker:a focus element to it.
Speaker:and you can focus, can
Speaker:set it to focus on a, for
Speaker:a certain amount of time.
Speaker:I put it on cafe sounds.
Speaker:Cause I really liked the sound
Speaker:of a cafe without actually
Speaker:having to go anywhere.
Speaker:So I use Tide to
Speaker:help me focus.
Speaker:I gamify what I can.
Speaker:I don't know what
Speaker:it is about me.
Speaker:I love a good game,
Speaker:a good challenge or
Speaker:a good competition.
Speaker:So if I can gamify it in
Speaker:some way, man, I'm there.
Speaker:could you gamify something
Speaker:that you're doing?
Speaker:Something that you don't
Speaker:like doing so you get it
Speaker:done quicker, you do more
Speaker:of it, whatever it is.
Speaker:Of course, number
Speaker:five for me is naps.
Speaker:Naps slash meditation.
Speaker:you've heard me say I
Speaker:have naps every day, but
Speaker:also I meditate every day,
Speaker:but sometimes I have to
Speaker:swap those things around.
Speaker:So naps and meditation.
Speaker:And then my final tip,
Speaker:my final tip, especially
Speaker:for those who are
Speaker:working from home, I
Speaker:love working from home.
Speaker:Do not get me wrong, love
Speaker:working from home, but
Speaker:I'm a bit allergic to
Speaker:my office at the moment.
Speaker:And the only reason that
Speaker:you're hearing this so
Speaker:beautifully is because
Speaker:I am in my office.
Speaker:But mainly I'm sitting at
Speaker:the kitchen table, which
Speaker:is aggravating my husband.
Speaker:But anyway, Hey Marky Mark.
Speaker:Sometimes he listens to this.
Speaker:Sometimes he doesn't.
Speaker:So one of the things
Speaker:that I do is I move
Speaker:around the house a lot.
Speaker:So I'm at the kitchen table.
Speaker:Sometimes I even say to my
Speaker:clients, instead of having
Speaker:a zoom, would you like
Speaker:to do a walking meeting?
Speaker:And so many people are
Speaker:looking at their screens
Speaker:every day that they're so
Speaker:grateful to have a walking
Speaker:meeting where we can just
Speaker:walk and talk and coach.
Speaker:and that's awesome.
Speaker:But sometimes.
Speaker:I really don't feel like it.
Speaker:Like I really
Speaker:don't feel like it.
Speaker:Let's talk about this podcast.
Speaker:Okay.
Speaker:So I have been podcasting.
Speaker:This will be my fifth year.
Speaker:I podcasted for the
Speaker:last four years.
Speaker:I had people, I interviewed
Speaker:people on my podcast,
Speaker:which was amazing.
Speaker:Cause I got to bounce off them
Speaker:and do all the other things.
Speaker:And it was audio
Speaker:only this year.
Speaker:We changed to video and audio.
Speaker:Um, we've got a little
Speaker:YouTube channel going and
Speaker:different bits and pieces.
Speaker:And sometimes I just do
Speaker:not feel like showing up
Speaker:to do my podcast, right?
Speaker:I'm human.
Speaker:I am not superhuman.
Speaker:I am human.
Speaker:And so I think the thing for
Speaker:me is I have the beautiful
Speaker:team at Bambi, Brianna, who
Speaker:is my head honcho and I've
Speaker:got a system called Podcoach.
Speaker:So basically.
Speaker:That holds me accountable.
Speaker:I can see on a
Speaker:spreadsheet, what
Speaker:podcasts I need to record.
Speaker:I can see when they've been
Speaker:recorded and I get feedback
Speaker:and the feedback is colored.
Speaker:So there's like eight
Speaker:pieces of feedback and it's
Speaker:about the audio, it's about
Speaker:the visual, it's about
Speaker:the content, it's about,
Speaker:That keeps me motivated.
Speaker:I want to stay in green.
Speaker:two colors, it's
Speaker:either orange or green.
Speaker:So if I record an episode
Speaker:and a week later I go and
Speaker:it's all green in my feedback
Speaker:line, I'm like, whoop, whoop.
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:If I get a little bit of
Speaker:orange, I'm like, right,
Speaker:what do I need to do better?
Speaker:That keeps me super motivated
Speaker:and accountable because
Speaker:we've got a list of topics
Speaker:that we can, you know,
Speaker:jump on to, I have regular
Speaker:check ins and I've planned
Speaker:it out all beforehand.
Speaker:So I just jump on, look at my
Speaker:notes and then go from there.
Speaker:Amazing.
Speaker:If you have a plan and you
Speaker:have accountability, man,
Speaker:that helps you stay on track.
Speaker:There are still days,
Speaker:still days now where I
Speaker:just can't be bothered.
Speaker:And for those days, I actually
Speaker:just see it for what it is.
Speaker:Perhaps I've run a
Speaker:little bit too hard.
Speaker:Perhaps I am not spending
Speaker:enough time in my joy area.
Speaker:Perhaps I'm spending a little
Speaker:bit too much time in admin.
Speaker:And so there are times,
Speaker:so you just have to keep.
Speaker:Managing it.
Speaker:As we get closer to the
Speaker:end of the year, also
Speaker:people's mojo and motivation
Speaker:seems to like swim away.
Speaker:And, uh, you really need
Speaker:to push it a little bit
Speaker:harder or do you, uh,
Speaker:my wonderful friend and
Speaker:lawyer, Tracy Marla Crane
Speaker:and I, uh, we talk about.
Speaker:gliding to Christmas instead
Speaker:of grinding to Christmas.
Speaker:It doesn't have to be a
Speaker:grind, but you have to be
Speaker:planned in advance to make
Speaker:sure that that happens.
Speaker:So they're my tips for
Speaker:remaining productive.
Speaker:I hope that they have helped.
Speaker:I can't wait to see you
Speaker:or speak to you or hear
Speaker:from you next week.
Speaker:As always, please
Speaker:leave a review.
Speaker:We love reviews and we want
Speaker:to get this podcast into the
Speaker:ears of women who need it.
Speaker:Have a great day.
