Speaker AI'm Jay Schwedelson.
Speaker ALet's do this, not that.
Speaker AWe are back for do this, not that podcast presented by Marigold.
Speaker AAnd today is the ultimate call to action button episode.
Speaker AWow, does that sound nerdy?
Speaker AOh, well, who cares?
Speaker AThe reason that this is exciting is that I don't know if there's anything in all of marketing that can have a greater impact on the outcome of your marketing that that costs no money, that takes less than five seconds to do and anybody can do it.
Speaker AAnd it's so overlooked.
Speaker AWe're talking about call to action buttons in your emails, on your social posts, on your landing pages.
Speaker AThose are the rectangular buttons.
Speaker ALiterally the rectangular buttons in all of your marketing.
Speaker AAnd the words that you're putting on those buttons have a massive impact in the outcome of everything that you're trying to sell, business and consumer.
Speaker ASo first, let's jump into this idea of call to action versus statement of value.
Speaker AThe words matter.
Speaker AThose writing the word register, writing the word shop.
Speaker ANow writing the words.
Speaker ARead more on your call to action buttons.
Speaker AThat's what's holding you back.
Speaker ABecause that's all it is.
Speaker AYou're asking them to take an action.
Speaker AWhat you want to be doing is giving them a statement of value.
Speaker AAnd here's the stat and I'll give you examples.
Speaker AWhen your call to action buttons are actually statements of value, these value statements increase click through rates by over 20%.
Speaker ASo for example, instead of watch the video, your button would say unlock the secrets in two minutes.
Speaker AInstead of request a demo, it would say see it in action.
Speaker AInstead of shop now, it would say upgrade your style.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AIt's all about what is the value.
Speaker AAnd it's not that somebody's going to look at that button and say, wow, that's really exciting.
Speaker AI'm so into that button.
Speaker ANo, it's going to be instant.
Speaker AThey're moving very fast and like, oh, I get it.
Speaker AI'm going to get this out of that, right?
Speaker AInstead of read more, it's discover the full story.
Speaker AInstead of subscribe, it's get exclusive updates.
Speaker AWhat is the value?
Speaker AAnd put it in that button.
Speaker AYour button could be really long.
Speaker AIt doesn't need to be one word.
Speaker ANow, beyond just Statements of value.
Speaker AThere's one secret sauce thing that you could do on your buttons, and this is when you're doing it in your emails, this is when you're doing it in your social posts and anywhere where you have that big, long rectangular button.
Speaker AIf you write your call to action buttons in first person, okay, increases click through rates for business and consumer marketers by over 28%.
Speaker AWhat, what does that mean, writing in first person?
Speaker ALet's say you're promoting a webinar.
Speaker AShould the button say Register, which is the commitment that you want them to make?
Speaker ARegister or save my spot.
Speaker AThat's first person and that's a benefit to me.
Speaker AWhat would you rather click on Register or I want in?
Speaker AWhen that button is written in first person, it crushes it.
Speaker AOn the consumer side, the same thing.
Speaker ABuy now, which is what you want them to do, versus first person.
Speaker AYes, I want my 25% off.
Speaker AWriting in first person is the great easy test.
Speaker ASo simple to do.
Speaker ANow, forget about just on your social posts, forget about just in your emails.
Speaker AWhat about on your destination page?
Speaker AWhat?
Speaker AOn your landing page, great, they've clicked on a search ad, they've clicked on something on your social ads, they've clicked on email.
Speaker ANow they've gone to that landing page, that destination page, the offer page.
Speaker AWhen your offer, okay, is mentioned in the submission button, it has your submission rates rise by 17%.
Speaker AWhat does that mean?
Speaker ASo on that form, on that landing page, they're filling out the form.
Speaker AThat final button, does it say the word submit?
Speaker AWhich by the way, is a horrendous word to use.
Speaker ADoes that button say the word submit or does it restate your offer?
Speaker ASo let's say you're trying to promote free quotes on insurance.
Speaker AInstead of submit, it would say get three quotes now, exclamation mark.
Speaker AIt's restating the offer.
Speaker AIf you're trying to get somebody to take advantage of a free trial, does it say submit or start free trial?
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ASubmit or get free assessment.
Speaker AYou want to state the offer in the words on that button.
Speaker AAnd that's how you increase your submission rate by 17%.
Speaker AAnd it's not just about what's on the button, it's also about what's near the button.
Speaker AOkay?
Speaker AWhen you have social proof on the side or right below that submission button on that landing page, that destination page, that offer page, when you have social proof right there, either next to or right below, it'll actually increase your convergence by 21%.
Speaker ASo right below, below that button, it would say something like saved us 30% on our CRM costs, said Todd.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ACut our monthly bill by $50, said Sarah.
Speaker AYou put a standard testimonial right there.
Speaker AIt's that last validating point.
Speaker AIt's that last thing to get them over the hump to say, you know what, I'm going to do it.
Speaker AJust by doing that, you can increase your conversion rates by 21%.
Speaker AAnd if you have like a 4.9 star review, you could list that right there by the button.
Speaker AIt's the same idea as a testimonial.
Speaker ASo the words that you're putting on the button.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AThe words that you're putting near your button, this can change the.
Speaker ARadically change the outcome of the performance of all of your offers.
Speaker AOkay, so before we get to since you didn't ask which is the ridiculous portion of this podcast, I want to let you know that this podcast is presented by Marigold.

Speaker ASince you didn't ask.
Speaker ASo I've just been traveling a lot and I've been flying around a lot and I, I need to know if something that happened is wrong that I did because I got.
Speaker ASomebody got angry at me and maybe I'm wrong.
Speaker AOkay, so I'm flying, right?
Speaker AI'm getting, I'm on the airplane.
Speaker AI got my seat.
Speaker ANow for me, I like sitting in an aisle seat.
Speaker AI always do that.
Speaker ALike, that's it.
Speaker AI need to sit in aisle seat.
Speaker AAnd the reason I like to sit in aisle seat is I don't like getting trapped.
Speaker AWhen I sit in the middle or a window seat.
Speaker AIf the person next to me, like is some, some big person and they fall asleep and then I want to get up, I Can't get up.
Speaker AI'm.
Speaker AI'm literally in jail.
Speaker AI.
Speaker AI don't like that.
Speaker ASo I always want an aisle seat no matter what I do.
Speaker AOkay, fine.
Speaker ASo I have my aisle seat.
Speaker ASo now this family comes on board.
Speaker AWhatever.
Speaker AIt wasn't little kids, okay?
Speaker AThey had like, teenagers, whatever.
Speaker AAnd there was a dad, a teenager.
Speaker AAnd then I had the aisle seat.
Speaker AAnd the mom was like, hey, can you switch with us?
Speaker AAnd she didn't even have a window seat.
Speaker AShe had a middle seat, okay?
Speaker AAnd she goes, would you mind switching with me so I can sit with my family?
Speaker AAnd I was like, well, I really would like an aisle seat.
Speaker AIf you have an aisle seat, I'll switch with you all day long.
Speaker AEven if you're way back or I don't care where you are, you're near the bathroom.
Speaker ADoesn't matter to me.
Speaker AIf you have an aisle seat, I'll switch with you.
Speaker AYou could be with your family, whatever.
Speaker ANow she had a middle seat, okay?
Speaker AAnd I was like, well, you got a middle seat, so that's kind of not going to work, right?
Speaker AAnd she's like, no, no, no, no.
Speaker ABut I want to be with my family.
Speaker AI'm like, I don't want the middle seat, though.
Speaker AAnd so like.
Speaker AAnd I didn't understand why that I just couldn't take it, right?
Speaker AAnd so I said, no, I'm not switching.
Speaker AAnd I got the side eye.
Speaker AEveryone thought I was rude.
Speaker ANot everyone.
Speaker AShe thought I was rude.
Speaker AThis other random person thought I was rude.
Speaker AI kind of feel like I was right.
Speaker AAm I wrong?
Speaker ADid I do something wrong?
Speaker AWrong?
Speaker AIsn't there like an unwritten rule that you only swap for equal level stuff like aisle seat for aisle seat?
Speaker AIsn't that like a thing?
Speaker AShouldn't.
Speaker AWell, I don't know.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker AWhat?
Speaker AI always feel like I do something and the whole flight, forget it.
Speaker AThey hated me.
Speaker AI don't care.
Speaker ALeave me alone.
