Speaker:

Welcome to the Peak Revival podcast.

Speaker:

My name is Vesna.

Speaker:

Today I am gonna talk about how I am living a one version

Speaker:

of my worst nightmare.

Speaker:

So just recently, about two or a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker:

A I broke my ankle so significantly that I ended up in hospital for surgery.

Speaker:

I've got a plate and two pins in my ankle.

Speaker:

So basically I got up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water

Speaker:

and missed a step on these steps, It's, it's kind of these stairs

Speaker:

that curve down, they're terrible.

Speaker:

I just flew down.

Speaker:

And in fact, I can't even remember entirely what happened, which was

Speaker:

really weird for me because I felt like.

Speaker:

What?

Speaker:

Ha Well, how come I can't remember.

Speaker:

Like it was scaring me, right?

Speaker:

I was like, is there something wrong with my brain?

Speaker:

and then I found out later talking to different people that when

Speaker:

you have an accident, often you cannot remember what happened.

Speaker:

Your brain wipes it out.

Speaker:

But I do remember going down the stairs and, um.

Speaker:

Not being able to catch onto anything.

Speaker:

So I flew down those stairs and I flew down from a very high point.

Speaker:

So I think I went down about 10, 11 steps.

Speaker:

my leg went under me.

Speaker:

and again, I wouldn't have known this, but I've got a graze on top

Speaker:

of my knee on the top of my foot.

Speaker:

So we piece it together, that actually my knee, my leg is.

Speaker:

Clipped under and it's, you know, just smashed my ankle quickly went

Speaker:

to the hospital and they were like, oh, you've got a broken ankle.

Speaker:

It's so significant.

Speaker:

We've gotta take you in for surgery now.

Speaker:

And I was like, what?

Speaker:

it was quite overwhelming because it just happened so fast and you know, thank.

Speaker:

God for the people at the Alfred Hospital, which is one that's very close to

Speaker:

me, So that's where I'm at right now.

Speaker:

I am 12 weeks living this sedentary lifestyle, which for me, and

Speaker:

the reason why I say this is my worst nightmare is literally.

Speaker:

I've often thought when I see people with a broken leg, I'm

Speaker:

like, oh, I could never do that.

Speaker:

Like I've, I've broken quite a few bones before.

Speaker:

as a kid I was always falling over and I'd break something, but, I never broke

Speaker:

my leg or my ankle, and I always thought if that ever happens, uh, that would be

Speaker:

my worst nightmare because I'm so active.

Speaker:

I walk everywhere.

Speaker:

If anything I need, if I'm going out, if I go to the supermarket, if

Speaker:

I walk my dog or I go to the gym, everything I walk to, I have a car,

Speaker:

which I barely use because I love to walk and obviously love to exercise.

Speaker:

So this has been a massive challenge for me and obviously not having that

Speaker:

independence because there are things that I'm really struggling to do and I've.

Speaker:

I've been very blessed to have amazing family and friends who

Speaker:

have offered and have supported me.

Speaker:

I feel extremely lucky and, um, very grateful.

Speaker:

So I've been getting lots of help, which again, for someone who's a

Speaker:

high achiever and quite independent, it's a interesting time for me.

Speaker:

And why am I sharing this?

Speaker:

I mean, I guess it's a bit of an update on me.

Speaker:

And there's, you know, there's a lot of insights that are coming

Speaker:

through when, when you're in this position and, and things just don't

Speaker:

work out the way that you want.

Speaker:

You know, I was doing this meditation the other day and what came up, kind

Speaker:

of a thought came up for me, which I had not thought before, which was

Speaker:

everything in your personal life that you had worked hard for in the

Speaker:

last 18 months, you didn't achieve.

Speaker:

And I was like, oh, that's really interesting.

Speaker:

That is so true.

Speaker:

that's definitely something to ponder a bit more on.

Speaker:

And you know, one of the other thoughts I had was, you know,

Speaker:

we are such creatures of.

Speaker:

Making meaning out of things, you know?

Speaker:

And it's one of the things that we as human being do, do, right?

Speaker:

If something happens, we will have a spin on it.

Speaker:

And whatever spin we put on it will either be something positive and

Speaker:

make us feel okay, or it will be negative and then we won't feel okay.

Speaker:

And people have said to me, you know, obviously you needed to slow

Speaker:

down or cause I had this whole.

Speaker:

Trip to the US booked a work trip.

Speaker:

I had a mastermind to go to.

Speaker:

I had the Joe Dispenza event to go to.

Speaker:

So really two big things that I was so looking forward to and I had to cancel.

Speaker:

And I was really devastated.

Speaker:

Like honestly, it's took me two weeks to accept the fact that I'm going

Speaker:

to be in this boot for 12 weeks and not be able to be independent, walk

Speaker:

around and be mobile and exercise.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

One of the first things I said to the surgeon before he took me, you

Speaker:

know, I was like, okay, so six weeks I'll be back at the gym in six weeks.

Speaker:

And he was like, uh, no, no.

Speaker:

You may walk in six weeks, but you've got a long road to recovery.

Speaker:

And so.

Speaker:

You know, for me that was a really big deal.

Speaker:

And obviously in my work I see people who resist where they're

Speaker:

at and I can relate to it, right?

Speaker:

I was resisting where I was at.

Speaker:

I was like, I can't do 12 weeks.

Speaker:

I cannot do 12 weeks like this.

Speaker:

And it took me two weeks over only just really, really accepted it that, you

Speaker:

know, could only take it day by day now.

Speaker:

And, you know, there's little things that I can do and I'm, I'm focusing

Speaker:

on that and, you know, I'm feeling.

Speaker:

More mobile each day is the pain minimizes.

Speaker:

So, you know, one of the things that, you know, as I was saying,

Speaker:

I see clients all the time.

Speaker:

They resist where they're at, and that resistance, uh, makes everything worse.

Speaker:

You know, it makes pain worse, makes us feel worse about our situation.

Speaker:

And so a lot of the advice that I've been getting, you know, people's like, oh,

Speaker:

you needed to slow down, or maybe you shouldn't have gone to the us or, You

Speaker:

know, you'll have a lot of quiet time now, so you'll really be able to self-reflect

Speaker:

and see what kind of message is in this.

Speaker:

And it was really interesting because I listened to both perspectives

Speaker:

and I was like, you know, in one mind I was like, what have I done

Speaker:

wrong to do, to have this happen?

Speaker:

You know?

Speaker:

And I hear that from clients, you know, why is this happening to me?

Speaker:

why am I having to suffer?

Speaker:

And going back to my point about we make meaning out of things and whatever

Speaker:

meaning we decide will dictate.

Speaker:

The emotions that go with it.

Speaker:

And so I don't know what it means.

Speaker:

Like I can say, yeah, maybe I needed to slow down, but I don't think that I was in

Speaker:

a place where I was needing to slow down.

Speaker:

Like I felt pretty good.

Speaker:

it could just very well be an accident, right?

Speaker:

It could just be the randomness, chaos of the universe, and somehow I, I've had this

Speaker:

accident and this is what happens, right?

Speaker:

And nothing more beyond that.

Speaker:

you know, that was one of my insights.

Speaker:

I've had many insights through this, but that was one of them.

Speaker:

You know, like whatever meaning I make up for this

Speaker:

and about my situation

Speaker:

is going to dictate how I feel

Speaker:

you know, one's gonna be empowering in a sense, one's gonna be disempowering,

Speaker:

but again, I'm only just making it up.

Speaker:

And at the end of the day could just very well be.

Speaker:

Accident, which is what it is.

Speaker:

and maybe there is nothing more in that.

Speaker:

Maybe there will be some great things that come out of this, having a lot

Speaker:

of time to not be active and therefore being a lot more in self-reflection.

Speaker:

maybe good stuff will come out of this, but I don't think that it was brought

Speaker:

upon me for something And the other thing that, you know, I wanted to go back on

Speaker:

was everything that I had worked so hard for in my personal life I didn't achieve.

Speaker:

And it's not to say that I'm not still gonna continue to work hard for those

Speaker:

things or move towards that, or have that as my goal or have that as my intention

Speaker:

and keep moving in that direction.

Speaker:

But it's interesting that, you know, that came up for me in my meditation that

Speaker:

you just haven't achieved those things.

Speaker:

And if you are in that place where you are working hard for something, it's

Speaker:

not happening for you, you're feeling really frustrated, You know, look at the

Speaker:

scenario that you're in and look at the things that aren't working out for you.

Speaker:

have a contemplation on that because.

Speaker:

I found that really interesting.

Speaker:

I just found it like something that I need to go further into to have a look at.

Speaker:

Like, why aren't these things working out for me?

Speaker:

what's the barrier there?

Speaker:

What's the block there?

Speaker:

And maybe this time of being sedentary for 12 weeks is gonna gimme

Speaker:

that opportunity to see something that I didn't see before, right?

Speaker:

So if you're in that place and things aren't working

Speaker:

out for you, do not give up.

Speaker:

you know, you still wanna move forward and achieve what you wanna achieve, but.

Speaker:

You know, have a look at why it's not working out.

Speaker:

What could be the barrier there?

Speaker:

What could be holding you back?

Speaker:

What do you need to have an insight about or see something more deeply

Speaker:

about that, that you haven't before?

Speaker:

I mean, I'd love your comments guys.

Speaker:

If anyone's been in my situation, I welcome any advice for rapid healing of

Speaker:

an ankle fracture, broken in three places.

Speaker:

Uh, and, um, if anyone's got any great tips for accelerated healing, I'm.

Speaker:

Please give them to me.

Speaker:

I currently have, I have to give this a shout out actually.

Speaker:

I'm using a PEMF mat, which is a pulse electromagnetic field

Speaker:

mat, I only got it two days ago.

Speaker:

I was in a lot of pain and I laid on the pen mat and actually my mom

Speaker:

is here and I was like talking so much after it and I was like, she's

Speaker:

like, you seem like you're better.

Speaker:

And I was like, you know what?

Speaker:

I'm not in pain.

Speaker:

So it's pretty powerful.

Speaker:

I don't know this electromagnetic field stuff.

Speaker:

I love energy medicine things, you know, I'm, I mean, I'm taking my supplements,

Speaker:

I'm doing the nutrition and all of that kind of stuff, but, and the homeopathics.

Speaker:

Um, but if you've got any other tips for me, throw them my way, I want

Speaker:

to be, uh, going to the doctor and him to say, wow, you heal so fast,

Speaker:

you can get outta that boot early.

Speaker:

I can only hope.

Speaker:

All right, guys, that's my update.

Speaker:

I'm gonna be.

Speaker:

Sitting down doing my podcast for a while instead of standing up.

Speaker:

you know, I'll be a homebody for 12 weeks.

Speaker:

So this is my new reality, but I know that each day will get

Speaker:

better and um, I will adjust.
