A Tradesman - they work in the same sort of environment.

If you're any good you will get recommended daily.

Not just that, if that tradesman needs any electrical work doing - you will also be the one they call.

So in this podcast I'm going to name a 7 businesses that you will benefit from being friends with to get more work.

This one is going to be obvious, builders.

They can be a pain for a number of reasons, but there is no denying they get asked for good electricians all the time.

I would always say put a good price on their jobs, there are always changes, extras and things that happen with builders that never make it always go to plan.

Before a job even started once, a builder ripped up the side of the house for some footing, straight through the internet cable.

As I was going to be doing the electrics, I got the call to repair - well that's a call out and someone needs to pay for that.

It's hard trying to explain this to builders, either they don't care or are just playing dumb.

The next one may seem a bit strange, But car dealers are fantastic at giving your number out to people.

Im not even sure why this is, but the amount of people who call me and say they have got my number from a car dealer is great.

I can only assume that car dealers try to be as helpful as possible to try and sell a customer a car, so when someone says they need an electrician - they put your name forward all the time.

The added bonus is when car dealers change their office round, or get a new piece of machinery in the workshop, you also get a call to wire it up.

So the next time you're car shopping or looking for a van, make sure to mention your an electrician and leave your number.

As annoying as it can be working for a domestic customer who works in IT, they are great customers to keep happy.

In their own house, they always want data points put to every room. All the customers I have worked for who work in IT have a server for all their gadgets around the house.

They love to have them all wired directly, god knows why when everything works via wifi these days.

Because the electrician who does a great job in their house, they want you to do the office too.

Now the office is always nice and easy, running 3 compartment trunking around the room and wiring it all in singles.

Another great contact to have is roller shutter doors companies.

Although most roller shutter door companies can connect up the electric themselves, there will be occasions where a new supply is needed.

And there is no way they want to go into a 3 phase board and connect up a 415 supply.

The bigger the business you work for the more customers you will have too. I have done work for both of the directors of LPS along with their friends and family.

Schools and collages are sometimes hard to get into, as they have one person they use and they stick with them until they retire.

However if your do get into a school of college contract, when schools are closed for the holidays - you will be mega busy with a deadline.

PAT testing, repairs, changes and new instals.

Most of the time the work is planned and all bundled into the next term holiday.

When working for schools, colleges and doctor surgeries have never had a quote not accepted.

Changed and added to along the way when the job is being done YES all the time, but it felt like you could put in whatever you wanted once you were on their contractor list.

Electricians aren't the only trade who are needed in these environments too. If you say you can paint - they will ask you to do that and charge them for it too.

The only thing is you have a deadline - get out before the building opens back up.

The last thing you want to be doing is working around the public.

I would only say put your name forward for these if you don't mind doing callouts.

Many small businesses will leave it until the last minute before calling in a professional to get the job done.

Pubs are the worst, because there is always someone in the bar who will put their hand up and fix it for a pint.

Even if they are not qualified to do so, then that temporary fix or bodge job will become permanent.

I may sound fussy, but when you have plenty of work on you can pick and choose the work you take on, so in the summer when its not wet and cold you can do a lot of work for groundworkers.

Ground workers and landscape gardeners are always a good contact to have. For the pure reason is you don't have to dig the trenches for the cable.

When they have ripped the garden to bits you can jump in and lay your cable or ducting to go back and 2nd fix when its clean and tidy.

The job satisfaction you get from turning a dump of a garden into a beautiful area for the customers to use is great.

Customers always really appreciate it too by sending you pictures in the dark when the lighting looks its best.

There are plenty of contacts to be made in the tradesman world, with each contact you can generate endless amounts of customers too.

This way you will never be out of work and have a constant flow of cash.

Getting these contacts doesn't happen overnight.
